It's done deliberately to lower the chances of bringing lightborn or whatever perk the killer would bring otherwise.
Makes sense. Lightborn is quite the BS perk in general, but I get why its looked down upon by killers.
Still, I think its weak to say its a good reason to tunnel someone out. Its just not justified. I often level a lowbie survivor from my maxed BP so I can earn some, then get back on my current main of the day. Should I be tunneled for this?
People can tunnel any time they want for any reason.
They don't need to justify it.

True. Trying to read into someone's behaviour is mostly pointless, especially in a computer game.
But we should limit how many free passes we give ourselves to behave in the worst way possible. People should at least take a brief moment to consider why someone might do something, before they let the ugly out. Refusing to do that is just self-centred and emotionally lazy.
I don't really associate my in-game behavior with any moral grounds.
If I feel like doing x for whatever reason, I'll do x.
I don't care about how things make me look in-game or to other players and, in turn, I don't take anything in the game that they do personally aside from cheating/exploits.
I always say gg or something to that nature and move on to the next game regardless of outcome.
I think this is the way to go as I'm apparently a lot less miserable than a lot of other players, judging from their forum postings.

Yeah, they consider it BM because they don't take a moment to consider why someone might be doing it. Everyone has a desire to let their negativity and aggro out and people will look for any excuse for it.
Example: Survivor brings flashlight - The survivor obviously wants to grief me for the entire match and make my experience miserable, so I'm going to make them miserable. Maybe they have a challenge? Nope. They're just toxic.
From a different perspective, someone may need Lightborn to counter flashlights due to inexperience/limitations/etc, and may take a fast switch as their game being 'ruined.'
Someone else may be using a chill build as there are no items and get fast switched into 4 toolboxes and decide to tunnel from the get-go.
You can never know what people are thinking/why they do whatever, but they're free to think/act how they want within the confines of the game.
No sense in wondering why people do x...it's a video game, not a psychology course @_@
There are an infinite number of possibilities and reactions.

It's really not. You've simply decided that if someone does this, you don't have to be nice and are free to be as toxic as you want to be.
Instead of seeing someone who wants to play their favourite survivor and is sick of getting dodged for it, you see someone who is toxic and deserving of mistreatment. Maybe if you gave the other person the benefit of the doubt, instead of just assuming the worst of their intentions, you wouldn't end up feeling pissed off.
Given the multitude of people in the thread that consider it BM, it seems that is the general consensus.
Personally, I'm alt-tabbed out until a match starts, most times, so it doesn't bother me.

I've had it happen 1x in my games as survivor but it was mostly due to the killer hooking me close to another hooked survivor and he was trying to guard them.

You got tunneled out by a baby Billy who cant wait to find himself in higher MMR. Once there, he will come to the forum and complain how unfair survivor is. Nothing unusual tbh.
I'd argue that it is unusual to make up disparaging scenarios about random players just playing the game.
They could very well be bad/new at billy and/or struggle at high mmr.

I'm loving her new changes. on a 30+ streak running a chase piggy build. grease & will make the ambush kinda scary. I never care for the cheese strats of the boxes but she can still do them. You can still run scream builds with longer search time and cheese a win. You can still harass people off of boxes after working out the spawn locations. I can see it being a net loss to people who was heavily dependent on the box aura reading but i think the pig looking solid after much playing.

Sometimes. I've started doing it more because 1K turns into 4K. You can tell when this happens. Killer camping someone in the basement, and such.

@SirXenomorph said:
My team and I, we play most of the times in a three man party, we almost never does that. We always try to get the solo person, IF that person really played normal and helped a lot. Even when the killer is a camper we help. Most of the times that means one of us will be dead sometimes even two, but yet we help, if the solo queuer was a helpful and overall nice person.
But if the solo queuer was, like it happens more and more these days, a person who just crouch in the last corner of the map, with a perkbuild that only focus on be the last survivor and get the hatch, we immediately let that person die at first hook. Someone who litterally crouch from second one and hides somewhere, do no gens, do not help hooked people and ONLY heals himself with Claudettes perk, will ALWAYS die long before gates have power. (Mostly that are the Bills or Claudettes)
Look if you go solo queue we get it that it is risky to get survivors who let you hang in the end. BUT if you already have in plan right at the start of the match, that you wont do anything and just get the hatch, you will be dead. So if you want a team to help you, you need to help as well. And yes there are bad person out there, these who tbag and just leave and do not think of get you anyway are really really bad. But never let that slide in the next match. Cause that is not often the case.
And last I want to say is be nice and helpful so most teams will go help you too. Be useless and selfish, you will be dead long before you even get a hint of the hatch
HUD usually helps me know who did what/if they're worth the risk.
It's definitely interesting deciding what to do!

I have so much BP that I have everyone (except the new peeps obviously) above level 3 so I'm more than willing to throw my life away on a 10% chance to save someone. Sure, 90% of the time all I do is get myself killed but the 10% times that works, those are way cooler stories! :D
I'm working through all the SVRs, atm.
All my killers are 3+ but most of my survivors are only 2 (aside from my mains).
I don't need them at 3+, but it is a fun little goal/something to grind for :)
Grats on 3+ on all the homies, though :D

the amount of times I've been left behind just for all 3 to tbag at gates while the killer is camping hook is astounding amongst other circumstances like all 3 being healed, 1 or more having no hooks, etc
solo queue is such an awful experience but alas we can't always party up w/ friends and must suffer
Missed your post, sorry!

No. I would escape more if I did. I will almost always die to save my random teammates. Just running out the gate is boring and I don't know what people find fun about it.

Who knows?!
I usually stream for pals in Discord and sometimes get them to act as a tribunal, deciding the fates of the other players - it's pretty fun/silly.

@tippy2k2 said:
As a rule, no
However, I will for a variety of reasons. If it's basically unwinnable (like you got put in the basement with Bubba) or if you somehow irked me as a player in the game (namely I'm injured on death hook while you haven't been hooked and you are hiding).
Even if I have a daily to escape, I'm a pretty selfish (or dumb!) player who will do everything I can to save you
Nothing wrong with that.
I'll bounce if I don't think the team will be able to make a save, people won't heal up for a guaranteed save, etc.
I'll also bounce if I'm just trying to play/escape a bunch of games in a row.
Sometimes I'll be super altruistic, but that's generally of the team inspires me...it's pretty great when people take hits or body block for me as a solo, so I try to pay it forward.

There was almost no facecamping happening. So there was no need to put work into that IMO. It was just waste of someones time who could have worked on different things for the game.
In the end, it did not solve anything, aside from the 1 in 100 games where the Killer was actually facecamping. So yeah, glad that we have tunneling left and right, but one out of 100 games does not have a facecamper anymore.
Seems like there were a lot of Face Camping posts/complaints in the past.
Not a fan of the new system, though.....I've only seen it proc 1x.

Most of the matches are extremely one-sided. In the majority, the killer quickly gets momentum, and it's obvious the team will never come close to getting enough gens done. And even worse, when that doesn't happen, it's usually just the reverse; the killer struggles to get even a single hook for the entire game. Come to think of it, both of those are probably promoted by the return of the 4 slowdown meta, i.e., either the team does play hard enough to break the gen slowdown or they don't even come close, and if they do break it, maybe it was only because the killer was woefully outmatched from the start. Either way, matches where one side just gets stomped are boring even if you're the side winning imo.
I can agree with your conclusion for sure.
Games where I body the killer or get an easy 4k are not at all appealing.
-
@Science_Guy said:
Never been worse.
What happens in your games?
-
@MaTtRoSiTy said:
Yeah it generally is easier as far as information goes but the game was a LOT more survivor sided years back, so it has kinda been balanced out... at least as much as DBD can be balanced out.
That being said, I almost always run Kindred as I solo queue most of the time and I still die on first hook every so often even with Kindred.
I haven't died on first hook in a dog's age....knock on wood >_>;
-
@Xernoton said:
The easiest? Probably not. There was a time when the game was objectively very survivor sided, so that would make it the time that solo queue as well was the easiest.
I'd say solo queue is more convenient than it has ever been though. The HUD and the overall experience of players mean, that many old school solo queue moments don't happen anymore. With Bond becoming a more popular perk (still underrated in my opinion) solo queue is really not that terrible.
It's still not great but it is absolutely playable as long as the matchmaking doesn't go haywire.
The HUD helps and definitely lets you plan around how the game is probably going.

It's not even confirmed to be a buff and BHVR does not have the best track record with reworks right now...
I'm pretty sure it will just be a number change (3s - 5s) or allow it to work after each unhook.
It's 100% going to be adjusted in a way that is a band-aid fix for tunneling.

Yep I understand that, I always try and do gens and I do get saves but you know what the stinker is? Because I'm doing gens and get saves strategically where the killer doesn't see me they think I don't do anything so when it comes down to the 2 of us left guess who gets ratted out and chased around the whole map? Me!
I'd understand if I was sat in the corner doing nothing but it's always the way unless I'm with a good team who can hold their own while I do gens it just always ends the same.
If they're actively teaming, that is against the rules.
If it's someone doing a drive-by to get you killed while they hide for hatch, that's a classic final 2 play.

Have the tome challenges ever really been that bad? People make that point a lot but they've always seemed fine to me.
I also meant more, any kind of challenge. Adepts, gimmick builds, daily rituals, tome challenges, etcetera. I don't tend to play either role without some kind of idea in mind in that regard, so I'll swap to survivor if there's an incentive and see what I feel like doing.
The early tomes were....something.
-
@jesterkind said:
I don't think necessarily easiest, since I'd say the game was easier for survivor regardless of whether you're in a SWF back when there was more of the game's broken nonsense to abuse. The game did, strictly speaking, get harder for survivors after each of those big things were removed, the same way it did for killers each time their broken stuff got removed.
However, I do think solo queue is the healthiest it's ever been. Barring specific annoyances that happen in every team game where you get dumb teammates who do dumb things, a lot of this game's solo queue holes have been patched up over time, and a lot of fun things were added that spice up survivor gameplay from either direction.
Anecdotally, I play a lot more survivor these days than I used to. Sure, it's not as much as killer still, but I used to avoid the role outright because I felt it was kinda miserable. Now, though, I'm happy to spend some time doing survivor challenges and such.
The tome challenges aren't too bad....currently :P

@KA149108 said:
Definitely NOT, I can only play a little bit of solo q when I play survivior, I'll probs have 3 to 4 games and then leave it.
Yes the hud was updated but lots of things have been nerfed, healing, window vaults, etc.
Also it's the team mates I have, i always have the question of do I stay on the gen? (Because I'm the only one on a gen) or do I go for the save before my team mate die or goes 2nd stage.
Also with the current slow down meta its insane how much gen progress is lost all the time, like imagine if there was a perk that prolonged chase, oh wait there was but that got nerfed but the 4 perk gen slow down is fine.
I just M1 until the gen is done in most instances and let the other people do whatever.
I'm running SC/BK/WoO/Oc and have a pretty even/maybe slightly more than even escape rate.
I'm usually doing gens away from the action and use Overcome to escape/reset on my own.
Windows also allows me to carry via chases, with Overcome allowing me to skip a tile or two if I want to leave stuff to chain for later.
I usually play pretty selfishly - if I see people meandering around/notice they didn't do well in chase or any gens, I'll open the gates and leave solo if I don't think they have the coordination to reset for a save or whatever depending on the situation.
If I see people making decent plays, I'm more inclined to play altruisticly.
When I do unhook someone and I can't hear the TR, I'll butt dance so they'll let me heal them. If they run off to the corner of the map, I'm probably not following to heal them and hop back on a gen. If they follow me to a gen after unhooking, I'll heal them if they want it - most people let me heal them once they see the yellow bar.
If there is one other person left on hook with a gen left, they're probably dying on hook so I can get hatch.
I just do whatever is immediately beneficial to me at the time, usually.

Also one of the most profitable games on Steam.

If you see my first post in this topic, you'll see that yes, survivors aren't making their ideal win rate (50% escape rate), but neither are killers making their ideal win rate either (62.5% kill rate/37.5% escape rate).
The discrepancy is because a survivors win rate is identical to their escape rate, but a killers win rate is not the same as their kill rate. A 50% win rate for killers is a 62.5% kill rate.
So many grievances with this game are down to it's asymmetrical format, yet the complaints seem to completely ignore it as a factor.

Pretty good thread, so far!
The hyperbole is real, while reality shows that the game is thriving on Steam (top percentile) and also in the most played games on PSN/XBL.

I get that low MMR is bad with teammates that refuse to do gens but overall the game is good for solo survivors while SWFs are super strong as always.
I currently play like 70% solo and 30% killer.
Game is chiller than it has ever been for both sides.

Had a game vs Trickster on The Game (I brought the offering because I like to fall down the meat chute whenever I have those 'great height' challenges) and we brought it back after 3 people were slugged / 1 injured with 3 gens remaining.
One guy got tunneled out after, but it was pretty intense/fun.
