I do think it could use a little buff.
But to be honest, I like that it forces me to take Botany as well because without it, it's got to be one of the worst Survivor perks in the game. Botany is such a great team perk and I wish more Survivors would run it. Botany + Self-Care are my two core perks for all my Survivor builds.
If you want to turbo charge Self-Care, you can build a very good healing focused all purpose build around Self-care + Botany + Desperate Measures + Resilience.
I use Self-Care/Overcome/Windows/Botany for my main build :D

I'm solo queue - I'll do what I want!

You're new around here...
The mods have already deleted most of the members of 'Misery Squad,' so I think they're doing an OK job :)

Overcome is slept on imo. I've gotten so many rescues and escapes that I wouldn't have had without that speed boost. Atm I'm trying Overcome + Inner Strength + Overzealous + Vigil, and while I can't say it's helping with escapes I'm definitely getting some pips.
Overcome is great >:3

Survivors SHOULD do gens as fast as possible.
Killers SHOULD take every opportunity to remove Survivors as quickly as possible.

Where a lot of the proposed fixes for tunnelling fall is that it results in a lose-lose for the Killer. That's to say they make it so the Survivors will benefit, no matter which Survivor the Killer targets. Punishing the Killer will not work and just push plyers away.
The "Borrowed Time" effect from being unhooked that was granted felt like the best thing for it at the time. However, strong anti-tunnel Perks such as "Decisive Strike" were nerfed in the wrong ways and Killers now just wait out the Endurance.
However, likewise it's questionable in many cases why a Survivor still decides to unhook under the Killer's nose in the first place, when it's not a mad dash to the Exit Gates. Of course a Killer would have a high probability of tunnelling then if it's handed to them on a plate. The Survivors should be punished under that level of stupidity.
If anythingbis to be done about tunnelling, it should be to incentivise the Killer. "Grim Embrace" is an example of this, which rewards spreading the hooks with a mid-trial "Corrupt Intervention". Granted, it's currently not a fantastic Perk, but it is a great way of giving the Killer a reason not to tunnel. Another Perk - "No Way Out" - also rewards the spread.
If tunnelling is to be countered, incentivising is better than punishing a Killer.
I'm interested to see what they do with Grim Embrace....I'm assuming it will be buffed....maybe they'll let it trigger 2x per match and/or increase the duration.

Hopefully they're focusing on when during a trial this is happening. A single surv who is the only one hooked three straight times with no gens done yet, that's a problem, and of course feels so bad. Unless they've been afk or are brand spanking new to the game, that should not happen. Matchmaking absolutely plays a part here too, but how to address it?
Direct tunneling after a gen or two is popped is more understandable to me, but there's just so many variables to how the match is going to consider. If this game is just about kills (and not hooks for instance) then taking someone out immediately to get it down to a 3 vs. 1 will always be the best option, and there's simply no fixing that.
Yeah.
I highly doubt we will get anything that takes so many factors into consideration (ie game state, previous hooks, etc).

The only way to remove tunneling is by removing incentive to tunnel. I highly doubt you can do that without completely reworking the game from scratch.
It would have to be something crazy, for sure, to match a permanent -25% to survivor efficiency.

"eliminate someone from the game when they NEED to (ie - the game is going poorly, they need a come back, etc)."
You are welcome for the input.
I said you cannot fix 'Tunneling' without nerfing their ability to 'ability to eliminate someone from the game when they NEED to.'
I did not say "Killers tunnel because of X."
It's not my fault you instantly went for the us vs them/low hanging fruit.
-
@Pulsar said:
I think it's naive to think that the majority of Killers tunnel because they "would auto-lose" without it.
Most Killers tunnel because it's easy, extremely effective and very difficult to counter without a coordinated team.
I never said that was the reason killers tunnel.
Thanks for your input.

Wait til the upcoming survivor chapter lol I'm not buying it, because the perks will be great but inevitably nerfed.
It was pretty interesting that MFT was nerfed right before a killer-only paragraph O_O

No longer implies I will never do one again, which just strictly isn't true. I just won't be doing it for this current Chucky stream, because I've been doing them for so long and I need to take a step back from a lot of things DBD related to really reevaluate my relationship with this game.

I love it and i hate it. I love it for what it used to be, what i can be and i hate it what it has become.
I wish they would get their stuff together and finally hit back the road. I WANT BHVR to succeed and it blows my mind how far off they are right now.
And its not only a random opinion from a random guy, i speak the same as an entire community that basically has changed from enthusiasts to absolutly not liking this game anymore. I saw dozens of people loving this game and almost all of them left. And the reasons are exactly those i point out.
FYI: I left the game for over 2 years, and i am super close to make it to another two or more. I know, this is just one person talking, who cares, but look at the playerbase. Looks overall not that great unfortunatly. For me easy to see why.
Unfortunate.
The game is pretty balanced now and, personally, I find it more 'chill' on both sides than it ever has been before.
Look at the player base?
Yeah, the game is still trending high on Steam (BEFORE the latest chapter) and is in the top percentile on each platform it exists on in terms of player count.
-
OP's recent posts really have me wondering why they play the game.
-
Congrats, OP, on your passive aggressiveness!
-
I have no idea why people continuously fall into the 'training wheels' narrative regarding WoO.
Its pick rate alone is indicative that it's much more than simply a 'learning' perk - if you think so, perhaps it is you that is still learning / you don't understand the value that the perk provides.
I use it in my main build - it's crazy good and provides pre-emptive information that you would not get otherwise (ie certain window spawns, dead zones, chain tiles, etc) that absolutely has an impact.
-
TC is a drive-by master.

Ok so to start with, I’ve been playing DBD for the past week and all matches I’ve encountered tunnelling Killers. Even when one gen has been done! the fact that killers moan as an excuse by saying that survivors are being toxic. As long as the killers are happy right!
The killer doesn't need to moan or make excuses for tunneling.
Sucks they're trying to win fast, I guess.
Any suggestions aside from the built-in Borrowed Time/Haste to help alleviate tunneling?
-
FTP is good on its own, but it takes situational awareness and knowing when to use it, as well as being confident and competent enough to deal with its downside.
Reading your OP, you don't seem to be using it effectively at all, as you've stated the killer is able to instantly reduce your value from it.

How about breaking the survivors' legs? That's slow the objective (the survivors) down so the killer can get them quicker!!!!
Hey!
I don't think you're taking this seriously!
We need to impose restrictions and boundaries on who the killer can target/when!
The only path to balance is removing agency!
The Game Police are also a viable option!

Unfortunately, you will have to wait until he is released!

maybe side objectives like cleaning and polishing totems.🤐🤐🤐
I think we need a police force in-game.
The innate Borrowed Time/Haste and Anti-Face Camp are simply not enough.
People could queue up to police how other people play and prevent taboo behaviors by timing offending players out for 10s at a time in a giant crib under the map!
There is NO EXCUSE for going after the same person multiple times!
No more winning too fast or trying hard!
-
It is crazy how some killers try to win the game as efficiently and quickly as possible!
We need to slow down their objective somehow!
-
I don't find Pain Res much of a problem in my solo queue games.

What would be the proper way to solve tunneling issue?
It would have to be done in such a way that it doesn't impede the ability to punish poorly timed unhooks, which is probably not possible.

Yes I would be.
There is plenty of ways to apply the exposed status effect thus making Made For This utterly useless. Instead of countering a perk with another perk, the playerbase was upset they had to change a perk slot for something that was situational and cried nerf!!!
The irony in this, is that when the survivors scream nerf Ultimate Weapon, the response is just run calm spirit as it counters Ultimate Weapon.
The more nerfs and changes the Devs are forced to make, the more unenjoyable and stale the game becomes.
How much of an impact do you think Exposed has against MFT/Resilience/WoO/X after the first down?

doesn't do much? WoO makes you never run into dead-zones. it is definitely top 5 perk for soloq.
It also shows where random vaults have spawned in certain structures.
There's a clear reason most successful solo and SWF players use it.
I use it - it 100% carries
-
I'm indifferent, but I'm a filthy Self-Care user...
Synergizes with several perks and Styptic so it's far from 'dead' (hard, lol).
Also procs vs a few killers that rely on Endurance.
It was previously one of the best perks in the game and allowed for the ever exciting 'passive' build of Windows/MFT/Resilience/x.

So we're all on the same page: Clairvoyance is the Mikaela perk that isn't a Boon. It basically gives you a hands-free Rainbow Map.
Clairvoyance activates when you Bless or Cleanse a Totem:
When empty-handed, press and hold the Ability button to unlock your full Aura-reading potential, allowing you to see the Auras of the Exit Gate Switches, Generators, Hooks, Chests, and the Hatch within 64 metres for 8/9/10 seconds.
I've seen videos using it in endgame builds to good effect.
You can make it last the entire game by just tapping it on/off quickly.
This is also useful in locating the hatch as you'll never run out of usage.

I'd LOVE to see Hoffman as a killer.

Selfish Solo: Self-Care/Windows of Opportunity/Overcome/Botany Knowledge
I'm ABM1 (Always Be M1'ing) unless it is a throw for me to stay on said gen.
Win a lot of games as survivor, so it seems to suit me well :)
Side Build A - Heal for You, Heal for Me - Second Wind (Renewal) / We'll Make it / Botany Knowledge / Lithe
Side Build B - Totem Houdini - Inner Healing / Quick and Quiet / Head-On / Detective's Hunch
-
I think it's better than most people are giving it credit for.
It can be pretty silly at loops if you run the add-on that lets you step in your own traps.
-
The game is filled with people that can disconnect you at will, atm, AND the game is experiencing server issues.
Just in time for the new event :D
-
Happened again...
Downed someone....ooops, not downed....downed them again....oops, they do the tell-tale 'stutter walk' I'm frozen in place.
I hit escape - Their ping is crazy high...
Game disconnects - Shows that I DC'ed and I get a penalty when it's clearly someone just pushing a button on their end.
Pretty disgusting.

Yes, but not exclusively. Rumor is there's an updated set of hacks that can punt people without having to take out the main connection. Although the total effect isn't as bad, it also hinders collecting data through your ISP to submit to the authorities.
Yeah - it is 100% the case.
