I find her to demand far too much coordination from average teams.

Okay but how is that unique to Knight and SM?
Again you just described half the killers in the game.
Yeah, and it's boring.
Usually though, those killers can do something else skillful. Artist has crossmaps, Knight has CTA and unfortunately, SM has her 3-genning, not what I'd call skillful.

As someone who plays a lot of both they're not remotely similar.
Knight is "I use my guard to flush you out and now you're in chase with this AI and then I'm gonna come in from this other angle and hit you" cuz lol 2v1.
Double Purple SM is m1 killer on crack where I'm incredibly fast and you're slowed down and maybe if you have a claw trap I can force you to break a pallet for me.
The similarity starts and end with "I can use my power at a loop and make that loop bad for you" but that's like half the killers in the game.
It's still you either leave the loop and know how to path or stay at the loop and die.

As someone with p82 skull rn I disagree. If i wanted to set stuff up ahead of time and herd survivors into it i would play hag.
Placing down drones mid chase and "drone dancing" with strobes + readout is the most fun part about skull merchant as its the ultimate game of "who knows their distances better". She simultaneously punishes survivors for greeding, and for not greeding, they need to find the middle ground and actually outplay you in chase which is why I love her so much.
You don't "shut down loops" since you still need to land a hit, and if you keep placing drones down at loops trying to build up the 10s of exposed you will lose the match by your 4th chase because of how long and inefficient it is.
She should have strobes basekit, haste values increased, basekit action speed increase for each tracked survivor (like geo), unhackable state removed, longer claw traps, and then add on pass to rework the basekit add ons and nuke stuff like BNG and speakers into orbit.
If you're chasing Survivors and then placing Drones at loops, that's literally just worse Knight.
-
This is just a chicken or the egg argument.
The only way we get to this point is by BOTH sides consistently playing tunnel-y and camp-y or gen rushing over the course of multiple years.
Of course, BHVR's move into a more competitive mindset doesn't help. Neither does their refusal to pick a side.

The one thing I agree with you on here (kinda) is that Lock On isn't a particularly well designed element of her kit. In fact, considering how little it aids her in the ways she seems designed to play, I recommended removing it in my fix-it post a little while ago.
With Lock-On removed, the rest of her kit could be adjusted and she could get a better suite of addons to better emphasise what I'm talking about, which is the versatile and modular design of her kit.
Though, I do have to point out- nothing you've mentioned here is core design? It's all how she's actually balanced, like, the specific numbers and such for how she plays on live servers. In those terms, yeah, she's doing very poorly, but in terms of core design she stands to be one of the best in the past few years. She's got a kernel of something really, really good in there that got buried under some mishandling and the looming monster that is the 3-gen problem.
"One of the best in recent years"
Okay, that one did make me chuckle a bit.
-
No, I'm on console.
-
Her core design is flawed.
I was disappointed by her lore, her looks, her sounds, her weapon and her power. Much of this is personal, but some of it is objective. For example, objectively, her power is extremely problematic design.
She's better off getting a total rework ala Freddy.

Rancor only activates in endgame. Sadako's mori is part of her power and requires set up, and PH has to inflict two hook states (whether through hooks or cages) to mori, as well as have you condemned.
I want my early game Rancor that I can use on anyone in the entire team, 4 times in a row, midrush with Vial+Crow. Also make Blight's power instadown even without iri tag. This is just fun for me.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3521104#Comment_3521104
KL is undoubtedly the best Nurse player in DBD. Saying "best killer" is disingenuous because different people main different killers. And teamwork is far more important than individual skill in DBD (not to say that anyone in ETR lacks either). He's a key player in the best DBD team currently, diminishing his skill with "but the other 3 are just carrying him!" is very reductive and dishonest.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3521102#Comment_3521102
Which 5 of Blight's addons? C33, Alch Ring, Vial. I count 3.
Speed shouldn't stack, imo.

I dont understand why playing top tier killers is regarded as a crutch.
Just because it is more difficult to get a 4k with a weak killer who isnt mechanically demanding doesnt mean that the viable killers at comp level are crutches for bad players.
Do you deem cloaking and uncloaking as wraith more skillful than using top tier killers with countless techs just because you think they are op?
I should play pig and eat 50 pallets on Gideon map without camping or tunneling to consider myself skilled at the game then.
For some reason, a lot of the top Killers also have the best add-ons.
Until only recently Nurse, Blight and Spirit all had extremely busted add-ons. Range for Nurse, Mother-Daughter Ring for Spirit and like 5 of Blight's add-ons

He's actually kinda bad.
Bad design? Yes.
Bad Killer? No, he's fairly strong. He needs Map of the Realm basekit, but other than that he's in a great spot strength-wise.
-
I'm sure it would seem that way to him, as a hyper-optimal player.
For the vast majority of the playerbase, the Endurance gets more value than the Haste

Pretty sure it's dbd mobile.

I think Blindness is too weak. I'd probably want it to hide the Stain/Killer noises for Survivors and hide Scratches for Killer.
I think Mangled is probably too good in the current meta.
Hemorrhage is weird. It's very feast or famine, either you get a ridiculous amount of value or you get none.
I really dislike Deafness.
Oblivious is good.
Endurance and Haste are both fine, just not when they get combined into one perk.
Hindered just feels bad, but it's fine balance-wise.

I try to, but I'm still Killer main at heart I suppose. I've never really enjoyed Survivor.
Out of my roughly 5K hours on a couple accounts, I'd reckon maybe 1/5 is Survivor and the rest is Killer

Not what I said. I won't play any killer where the survivors have the ability to take my power away from me.
So no Plague, Nemesis, Myers, Ghostface, Hag, Knight, Singularity, Trapper, Legion, etc etc

So you won't play any Killer with built-in counterplay.

Most horror films have one survivor called the final girl. It's a trope.
Where exactly are you getting that from? Where have the Devs said DBD is supposed to play out like a horror movie?
Also, the game really doesn't need a 75% Kill rate.

Is it?
Or are most players to new to have played when killers were actually stronger.
I think there are a lot of people here who never faced old ruin or NOED or true Face camping...
I think there are a lot of players here who only started in the last year or two.
Yeah, it is.
Ruin was extremely unhealthy and not strong when you were playing against decent players. OG Ruin was only good against bad players, unlike today's much healthier regression. OG Ruin rewarded you for doing nothing, whilst Pain Res and PGTW reward you for playing well and give you a much stronger effect to boot.
Survivors had the following:
Infinites.
Instant heals.
A second instant heal.
Double pallets.
More god pallets.
Vacuum vaults.
Vacuum pallets.
Old God loops.
Old toolboxes.
Old Medkits.
Old Keys.
Old BNPs.
Old Self-Care/We'll Make It.
Old DS.
Old DH.
Old BL.
Old Coldwind.
Old Aazarovs.
Old HADDONFIELD.
Original Swamp.
Original locomotion.
Gained more speed on hit.
Killers:
Had a longer vault animation.
Longer to break things.
Slower recovery on hit.
Most Killer powers were clunkier. Wraith and Trapper being prime examples.
Every meta perk from 2023 is either non-existent or bad.
-

As someone who played thousands of hours during those things. I would gladly rather have that era back over this current era. Survivors have 4 to 5 health states now, are significantly faster on gens due to perks, are faster in chase due to perks, and know exactly where is safe thanks to Windows.
It was easier for me killer vs old DS and DH. It's true.
This is just classic recency bias
-
It's not about what Killers had back then, it's about what SURVIVORS had back then.
Killer is undeniably the 2nd easiest its ever been. It may not be fun, but it's undeniably easier and in a much better spot
-
Used to happen a lot way back when.
I've seen it a couple times in the last few months.
-
Not easiest, that would be Overbrine Eruption meta, but certainly most Killers are in a good spot.
-
That's how it worked on release, so I'm assuming it finally got fixed.
-
Jonathan.
-
He's an endgame Killer imo. Not in the sense that he does better late-game, but that he is better for experienced players.
He has a high floor and requires advanced Killer knowledge to even start to do well.
-
I'd honestly just recommend a chase build on Wraith.
His power won't give you a crutch, it'll teach you about maps and loops whilst taking you places, he's decently strong and he has synergies with a lot of perks.
Just keep your head up, treat every match as a learning experience and try to notice your mistakes.
-
Just get rid of the Endurance on MFT. It doesn't make sense for the perk and then reevaluate in a couple months.
C33, Alc Ring and both Speed addons need adjusting. Rat and Crow shouldn't stack, imo and C33 and Alc Ring need new effects.
-
I'd be genuinely upset if they touched Wraiths addons.
He's the gold standard for addons imo. Every one of them is useful in some way.

Your "compromise" is simply yielding to the whims of children who are the type to throw tantrums at the drop of a hat. We actually don't want those types of people polluting majority of the matches because they are ultimately detrimental to this game. We want them gone. Personally I rather have a much smaller population of quality adults (at least emotionally and mentally) to play with. And the children need to learn that if they are that unhappy with the game to the point of quitting frequently in middle of matches, they need to move on to other games. That would be a win-win for everyone.
Moreover, this is first and foremost an online multi-player game. People are here to play with other people, and bots will never be able to replace that. It won't matter how good the bots become, or how awful the other players play.
Ooooookay
-
I agree with the sentiment.
I think, in our endless pursuit of balance, we've lost a lot of what made the game fun in the past.

Remove DC penalties. This encourages players to give there team a bot. However, prevent players from re-queing until the bot dies or escapes.
So players who don't want to wait until the bot dies or escapes will continue to just kill themselves on hook. How does that change anything? This will only reinforce childish, immature behaviors like disconnecting right before the player is sacrificed or moried.
Well, it's either that or completely remove any penalty, which I also don't mind.
Just thought I'd try to compromise.

They can also absolutely destroy any ranged Killer, probably too well tbh.

Yeah you're right, bhvr nerfed healing because it made injuries unbelievably safe. Got hit? Run to the COH safezone and heal backup in 8s or less!
About to get hit again? E.
The self healing nerfs were done to increase the length of the match without making gens longer
Sadly developer oversight forgot that "while injured" perks actively discourage survivors from healing and make the injured state a desirable effect.
I'd rather MFT + resi only work while healthy, that way you're rewarded with good effects aslong as you play well and not when you mess up. And killers could counterplay it. (Resi needs to have the gen boost deleted though).
Got off the hook? Want the perk effects back? Waste 16s healing.
Once again, being injured is not a mistake it is a natural part of gameplay

I highly doubt the percentage of people that have "real life emergencies" everyday is high enough to justify removing dc penalties.
A good majority of DCs are either because you got outplayed , went against a killer you don't like etc etc.
Just like you, other 4 people waited in Queue to get a dbd match , and its not reasonable to ruin the match for 4 other people because your ego got bruised over being outplayed.
A forfeit vote after one DC would be a healthier option as a whole. Entitled survivor gets the timeout, the other 4 players can requeue for a proper match.
If youre not having a good time in DBD, take the 30 minute timer to chill out instead of requeing to ruin another match.
The bots are better than most players.
Remove DC penalties. This encourages players to give there team a bot. However, prevent players from re-queing until the bot dies or escapes.
Everyone's happy. The player isn't stuck in a match they don't want to be in, their team isn't screwed over and neither is the Killer. Everyone's happy except for the people with zero empathy and people who enjoy making other people miserable.

Reports really don't do anything. The point is consistent behavior prevention. There might be a legitimate reason someone needs to get up, but if it's consistent enough to receive harsh punishments you shouldn't be playing. You can talk about it like a business perspective but it becomes irrelevant when you look at league, their punishment's and realize they are a top three game easily in the world. People can't be consistently troll or be toxic in league without running into a 2 week or 4 week or ban. It's not to say there is no forgiveness outside of racial slurs but there is an extent where they realize you are only being detrimental to their profits but extension.
When you remove these players that negatively impact other players, you severely reduce a snowball affect of tilt. People who defend self unhooks often mention people who get bad games on repeat and who reach their limit, other players self unhooking in previous games are a big part of that.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3516609#Comment_3516609
I didn't imply that even a little, you would have to be so abysmally bad to meet the specifications I know you have read in the past, and I had mentioned back then that chase/slug/hook time wouldn't count and that I mentioned before that there would be a required playtime before these penalties would affect anyone.
"Self-unhook, Sandbagging, afking and whatever else."
New players will try to kobe. Some players might run a luck build.
New players have no idea what's going on. Bad players might sandbag on accident. I've certainly sandbagged people on accident whilst trying to take a hit for them. Heck, I've sandbagged my friends on purpose because it was silly.
Some people have this thing called real-life responsibilities. They shouldn't be banned for attending to them.
You clearly want to ban people for not playing with you. In your hatred, you've damned many more people in this idea.

@WorthlessBeing said:

I mean, kinda? Isn't losing badly everytime a form of punishment in and of itself?
On the topic, I agree. Whenever you press the Ready button, you accept that things might not go your way, that you might be the first to die, or that you'll have a boring adversary. That's what you sign for.
You can't just take the good times and flee at the first sign of a grey cloud. Playing a game and ragequitting on the slightest inconvenience is frankly pathetic imo.
Which is why I'll argue that the DC penalty should be harsher.
I was responding to a person who wanted to ban people for "forms of throwing" that also just so happen to be things that bad or new players do.
-
@Sava18 said:

But you can pretty much punish people for all forms of trolling, thats the point. DC, Self-unhook, Sandbagging, afking and whatever else. You can make systems to stop this for semi-consistent abusers of those things. You can, just like with any game not play but you will be punished.
You can't punish people for being bad at the game lol
-
I like it because it lets me keep someone in the match for slightly longer, now they'll get tunneled out with 4 gens up instead of 5!
Nobody has used it on me to any meaningful effect yet, but I understand that it's likely very frustrating for some Killers. It's probably equally as frustrating as being tunneled out.
-
I honestly haven't found maps to be that bad.
Yeah, you've got Garden of Pain and Borgo, but most other maps are just fine.

Yes, it's too easy. Maybe they could get rid of the 2nd phase checks : keep the 4%, prevent the easy way out.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515093#Comment_3515093
That's already more work than what they need to do at the moment. And I don't know for other players but when I play killer and I understand a survivor wants the easy way out and everything else is normal (e.g. no other "suicides") I'll slug him for his trouble. (And I'll let his willing teammates heal him so he is useful to them.)
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515105#Comment_3515105
I'd get rid of the 2nd phase : no way to deplete it faster.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515106#Comment_3515106
Survivors give up for any reason. That's outside the dev's responsibility.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515108#Comment_3515108
A mini-game sounds like an interesting idea.
I've contemplated the idea removing the DC penalty but I'm afraid it would just increase the amount of bots in matches.
Accurately detecting a survivor running on purpose to the killer is next to impossible. It happens regularly on my games and they clearly don't do it on purpose.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515109#Comment_3515109
To be fair, by killing themselves on hook they are already sabotaging the team.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515145#Comment_3515145
If they press "home" the way you suggest, they would be replaced by a bot. A bot is already a good solution.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3515128#Comment_3515128
It would only encourage DCing even more. Bad map, strong killer, bad mood, wrong skin used, ...
As for BPs, they an incentive only for new players. From what I've noticed, it's usually the more experienced (not necessarily good) survivors who are giving up. Beginners are less entitled.
That's the point. You incentivize people to use the bot system, but you don't allow them to just go into a new game instantly.
-
Remove DC penalties.
That "encourages" players to DC over hook suiciding or just giving up.
Prevent Survivors from re-queing until their bot either dies or escapes the match. This keeps an aspect of the "penalty" in the system.
Give Survivors more BP gains in general, this would encourage people to stick out lost games a little more.
-
anyway, the recovery aspect of the duration add-ons previously was to always merely keep the cooldown to 15 seconds and didn’t actually increase the recovery rate of her power
....so it increased the recovery rate to keep the cooldown at 15 seconds.

Pretty silly that being injured is such a non-issue that it’s often the best play (for things like resilience, mft, going against legion, etc). When you have 20+ safe pallets and a handful of god windows on most maps, there’s very little risk to it.
Must be nice playing in 2017, most games are not like that anymore in 2023.
