  • Being injured is not a mistake, its a natural part of the gameplay loop.

That's like saying the Killer made a mistake by losing a gen or by having to break a pallet.

@you, yeah actually, you CAN. You BAN THEM for afking, trolling, or otherwise not playing the game. It'll end it really really quick.

The DC penalty is there because they don't want people leaving games. And being able to ######### on hook is an out without the punishment. If you don't want to play, you take the penalty. This game is VERY generous, in that you first leave is essentially free, and the second is just a youtube video's length. If you are doing it 3 times a night, then i think you have an entitlement problem.

    No, it really won't lol.

You'd ban every bad player, most of Solo Q and all new players with your ideas.

  • The game is likely much more balanced than when you left it.

I'd even go so far as to argue that it's relatively Killer favored at average levels of play, so depending on what role you play, you might have a better time lol

  • Meh.

It's a strong perk. Neither side likes it when the other side gets a strong perk. Sometimes, there's something to that like with CoH or Eruption. Sometimes, there's not like with Hyperfocus or Lethal.

  • That's called ping

If i'm going to lose either way, i'm not letting them out that easy.

So it's about a perceived personal slight?

  • That design is simply an evolution of earlier designs.

Killers like Myers, Ghostface and Plague are all prior iterations of the same idea. A very strong (at the time lol) power in exchange for Survivors ability to either deny it completely (Plague) or to limit it (Myers and Ghostface).

We've seen this with more modern Killers like Wesker, Nemesis and the newly strong Onryo. Obviously, we just saw this with Singularity as well.

It isn't a new design, nor is it a bad thing. It promotes interaction with the Killer so we don't get things like Knight or just boring anti-loop Killers like Artist or well, Knight again.

If they don't want to play, that's fine, but they could at least have the decency to DC so a bot joins.

Following that logic, then the DC penalty should be reduced or removed entirely in order to "encourage" players to DC instead of suiciding.

@topic, you can't force people to play a game they aren't enjoying. I empathize with the plight, but it's a simple fact of life that people aren't gonna keep playing the game when it's miserable for them. You can punish them via DC penalties and you could even make hook suicides permanently bannable like I've heard people want; people will still AFK, they'll still sandbag, they'll still give up, they'll still not try to win. It doesn't matter what you punish. All you can do is work around that fact instead of trying to change it.

Dbd doesn't have competitive or ranked mode so comp dbd doesn't exist.

There's no organisation on dbd that funds teams, paying them monthly, houses, and huge amount of money to the winners. That's the legit competitive gaming.

There's a reason that no one backs up huge tournaments and coverage for dbd, the game is not competitive. Now, there's some kids on dbd community who pretend that the game is competitive.

I don't even know what to say about that statement.

Certainly one of the takes of all time.

  • A lot of them do enjoy it, yes.

The Killer attracts a lot of the worst elements from our community, unfortunately.

Looking at all players though would be the incorrect thing to review as well. Your data gets skewed by those still learning the basics of the game or of the specific killer. You'd want data on experienced players who have already had a number of games as the killer under their belt for a better idea of performance, which Nightlight has (and presumably BHVR have as well but would never release). Absent of BHVR giving the community access to the actual stats then Nightlight is the best estimate for that. While it has faults that need to be understood in the context of any discussion, ignoring it or writing it off as useless is also wrong to do.

You want data on everyone as that reflects the actual state of the game.

You can't just take new players nor experienced players. You need everybody. And if you needed to balance for one particular group, you'd balance for the group that has the most amount of people in it.

For 10 million games to get a confidence level of 95% within a 3% margin of error you'd need a sample size of about 1000. In fact around 1000 samples is fairly normal for estimating larger data sets (such as political polling or population data). Nighlight has issues as it skews in favour of better / regular players and isn't great for understanding lower tier MMR. It also requires people to self report and I'd hazard a guess that people are more likely to upload games or from sessiosn where they've played well which can cause data issues.

At a sample size of 800 though it's a fairly good data set.

A sample size of 800 with an exclusive clientele isn't a good data set as it skews things towards a certain aspect of the games population, unlike official stats that encompass all players.

Competitive scene by the self proclaimed professional players.

There's no organisation that funds teams to play dead by daylight. The win money are so little or nothing at all in most tournaments. This is the difference between legit comp and dbd comp.

I'm pretty sure, that even with 1 million game on singularity right now - he will be below average pickrate and most likely to 0k, just as this site says.

Wesker right now have the most pickrate it's not a secret, and even this "unlegitimate source of data" as Nightlight says the same.

    I don't think it's a coincidence.

802 games from a month is pretty significant (just saying)

    Now to OP:

    From my personal view...

I played this killer enough to say things like:

    1. VERY clunky power makes him frustrating to play as. (Putting pods on objects)
    2. His power is not really rewarding (without 5% of haste addon is almost useless)
    3. Emps are OVERcounterring his power. Without any issues to get them.
    4. He feels really slow with gameplay loop.
    5. He suffers against a team of 2 or 3 ppl. (Not even a full squad).
    6. Very map dependant.

Why play a killer that have to go through frustration and sweat just to do the same as any other killer just pushing 1 button power?

Ps: All tho... I wanna test him with this 1 xeno perk that gives haste effect after a hit... There is a potencial...

    Disagree.

There are probably millions of DBD games played per month.

    802 games isn't significant.

  • Clearly, Skull Merchant should be in a tier above the rest seeing as you need an IQ of at least 300 to be able to begin to comprehend the vast complexities of such a well-designed and truly complicated character.

  • You cannot use NightLight as a legitimate source of data.

The sample size is simply too exclusive and too small.

I wouldn't draw any conclusions from this.

  • Honestly, they aren't good, really at all, imo.

The Iri is wild though. After coming out of a tunnel, if a Survivor stuns you during a 10 second period, they take damage. If they are already damaged, they get Deep Wounds.

You didn't provide that as context, all you have here is a complaint about how the game isn't fun and how it has to change in order to be fun again.

Well lots of people still play and find it fun probably more so than than your small collection of friends who've quit.

There is plenty of fun to be had for the casual gamer and if a player is struggling to find it then walking away for a bit, as your group of friends has done, is the probably best idea.

"I don't think the game can be played at an average casual level anymore. I don't think you can really come home from a long day at work and play a couple of games on either role without the game being more trouble than it's worth." You're speaking on the behalf of others, that sounds like a personal view to me. Be honest with yourself if you aren't having fun stop for a while.

I don't think you play competitively, more lilkely you play too seriously, because you often gripe about competitive mechanics and strategies listing them as unfun.

Your complaints are incongruous with your stance on how you play, yet you said you're still having fun because of your competitive mindset err... ask yourself who are you trying to convince the forums or yourself?

I am not egotistical enough to think I speak for everyone.

However, it's completely possible to be able to see different perspectives. I take the game much too seriously, as shown by me trying my hand at competitive DBD. Most people don't do that.

The casual nature of this game, I think, has gone. I also think that's a bad thing in the long run, as DBD isn't truly competitive either. The game has pushed casual players out whilst not appealing to competitive players either.

  • @pseudechis said:

Lots of people play casually and still have fun, I know I'm one of them and I play with a group of them.

DBD is still fun, I think you need to take a break. Its not as bad as you constantly make it out to be and if you are hating on it so much then maybe its time to step back for a while.

I didn't say this was about me.

I'm still having an acceptable time on the game, as I play very competitively, but all of my more casually-minded friends have quit.

  • Moderately, I suppose.

Not really as competition for DBD, because it isn't, but more just as something new.

  • @Dreadnight said:

You can't demand a kill switch from a killer because you don't like the character's gameplay.

People spend real money or game time to unlock those characters. You can't just deactivate a product they've paid for.

We also know that BHVR takes time to make changes to any aspect of the game, so it's not feasible to deactivate a character until a redesign you like is ready.

Kill Switch is an internal tool to disable something that causes some kind of bug or exploit in the game, not for players to choose what they want or don't want to play against.

At most you can question or suggest an alternative to that gameplay, or better map design to avoid three gen .

I spend money to play the game, not get locked into hour long ego chess matches.

  • It should have the Endurance removed.

  • It's different for everyone but generally I only see good players at above 3K hours.

Again, it's completely possible that there are exceptions, this is just a generalization.

  • @Murgleïs said:

What an hypocrite take when you were the one replying to players, mostly killers saying the game is not fun anymore, that they should get good, spend time training for hours, reviewing their gameplay, learn about comp, ect…

Everything that was fun have been removed in the sake of balance and comp, and you are surprise we end up with a sweaty boring game ?

Where in my post did I say that this applied to me personally? I did not.

I am capable of seeing things from different views. In fact, this started because I was doing the math on the Shard grind and found out you'd need around 1500 hours to unlock Killers with Shards.

Casual players hear that and leave, so that's what got ms thinking.

I don’t get what you want. The game is 7 years old and people have been playing for years, so obviously it is being optimized. I also don’t think anyone on this forum can really consider themselves “casual” since you have to be pretty dedicated to the game to want to post on here.

This is yet another example of how some of you don’t seem to play other games. ALL pvp games get optimized and have a meta. Dbd isn’t special.

It looks like someone might be agreeing that this is the least enjoyable the game has ever been ;)

For most people, it might be.

For me personally, it's fine. I play very competitively and it works for me.

I'm able to remove myself from that mindset and look at it from a more reasonable perspective.

  • @Neprašheart said:

The game certainly feels more sweaty than what it has used to be in the past, but you're the problem by having such a mindset, if you ask me. Now, I don't mean to complain about your take or to call you out for it, but how do you expect yourself having fun, if you're already subconsciously having thoughts along the lines of „I have to sweat if I start to feel like I'm no longer winning“, or „If others sweat, so will I.“, because that's just you projecting your thoughts and forcing others to adapt to that, you know?

Sure, you do barely see survivors running without items and using all sorts of perk varieties within your matches as a veteran, but that doesn't really mean anything. I do consider myself to be a casual-competitive player, leaning heavily towards the casual side because I do know what being competitive is, and how unfun that is when it comes to gaming.. Unless I'm already better than over ~80% of the entire playerbase to guarantee myself the dopamine boost and satisfaction from winning every single match.. With ease.. And, so I treat the game casually, while the younger audience with tons of energy left because they're not going outside (mostly applying to students and people without a job) still has tons of energy and can easily dominate me by playing better than me, because I'm past my prime gaming years already.

You shouldn't be like that. You should have thoughts along the lines, like „Why shall I sweat? Go ahead, I'll play my own game!“, and even though this kind of attitude more or less guarantees you losing your matches, that's not really gonna be a problematic thing for you, until you get used to losing. You can't win without losing beforehand, but you do have to learn „how to lose“ to know how to learn from losing and not having it get to your ego.

Be yourself, play your own game at your own pace. Don't care about what others think, but don't have the mindset of wanting to be the same as them.. Because that only results in you encountering such players more and more frequently due to having nearly the same attitude and playstyle as a result, and never ever making it any better for yourself. Do know your limits, and do know how to get into the MMR you do wanna be in.. With other casual players - That's not gonna happen until you start playing like them, though, and that means many times putting yourself at a disadvantage, because the result will be all the more satisfying and worth it.. Or, at least, shall.

I'm still having fun playing the game.. But if I feel powerless as a killer, I just dedicate myself to that one chase or area to guard, and see what they can do about it. If I lose four generators per a single hook, that's fine by me.. I mean, I've caught a really difficult prey to catch, so I've won in my book despite losing by the game's mechanics. Silly me, but it works. I am satisfied, and it works in my favour.

In order to proceed, you do have to start with yourself, see your own faults and acknowledge them. It doesn't matter how silly or absurd it sounds to you. It's not like we can peek into your mind and know your thoughts, so whether it's embarrassing from your own point of view or not is irrelevant, and it shouldn't matter because it's all in your own head. Nobody's gonna make fun out of you and your thoughts, you do have peace and all the time in the world that you dedicate to it to know what to do and how to enjoy videogames like back in the day.. Or so I'd say.

If you do disagree with any of my takes, that's fine by me. I don't expect myself to know everyone the best, and I don't expect you to agree with everything I'm claiming just because .. Of whatever reason you can think of. I'm wrong about something, that's for sure, but I'm not wrong about everything.

There are many games where if you aren't on your A-game, you will NOT have fun.

This goes for Killer and Survivor. Killer figures out you're not a crazy good looper, instantly decides they need you out of the match. Idfyou aren't on your A-game, you're gonna be out of that match in 2 minutes. If a Survivor team comes in and spawns split on 4 gens, you're gonna need to play extremely smart and sweat if you want that match to last.

Getting stomped isn't fun. One-sided matches aren't fun. That's the casual mindset.

  • @fussy said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/386728/i-think-dbd-as-a-casual-game-is-dead

What did you expect from a game where skill is a very important part of the gameplay? People (player base) are getting better on both sides, I notice that too.

Gens of 70 seconds were not even close to as fast as today's 90 sec gens. And that's why I've only been playing for chases lately, I'm tired of sweating every game.

And it is absolutely normal that new players need to spend time and effort to be a good player and enjoy the game.

Imagine you spent 10k hours and you go against a player with 100 hours and you have about the same chances of winning, simply because the game is hard balanced for casual players. Who wants to spend more than 200-300 hours in such a game if there is nothing to strive for and the skill does not matter? The meaning of PVP mode is in its competitiveness. And it's strange to me that many people try to pretend that this is not the case and this game is just about pressing buttons. M1 simulator vs W simulator. Nah it's not, and i glad for it.

    That's the entire point.

A 10K hour player shouldn't ever be playing against a 100 hour player and yet, that's the DBD experience.

  • something something JOJO chapter

Cmonnnn, the new jojo is legitimately a psychopath let him in :(

  • @Sharby said:

The bottom line is that this is a community-driven problem.

Everyone wants an easy, chill game, but also want to win. How do you accomplish that in a PVP game?

Play against people severely under your skill level.

Meaning, if they put a ranked mode in nobody would use it because people don't actually want appropriate MMR based on how people complain they go against Tryhards every other game. So the people that sweat will always be mixed in with the casuals because they don't want to go against other sweats, so the casuals will continue to be punching bags for content.

Harder games means less 5-gen chases, less 4ks, less flex-able moments overall. The current community is way too competitive for it to ever work.

All the devs can do is either rework the game's objectives overall (sacrifices/gens being replaced.) Put a PVE mode in, or continue to put carrots on sticks everywhere to prevent people from playing efficiently (gen-rushing, tunneling, etc.)

I'd say we're a ways away from the current game-state tanking the population of players though.

My point was not that the game is dead or dying, but rather that the casual aspect of the game is gone, likely for good.

  • I highly doubt you played a perfect game, especially as a 600 hour player. That's not an insult to you, but 600 hours is barely anything in DBD.

Cheating: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage, especially in a game or examination.

The game is not balanced around SWF, so it is in fact an unfair advantage.

You can keep repeating how they allow SWF but that is irrelevant. Whether or not something is allowed is not part of the definition.

So anyone who runs Alc Ring is cheating.

Anyone who runs Nurse is cheating.

Anyone who runs meta addons is cheating.

Anyone who plays against Solos is cheating.

Anyone who plays against inexperienced players is cheating.

That definition doesn't do anyone any favors.

  • Essentially, the Killer client gets priority over Survivor client in some cases.

Killer sees the hit connect, Survivor doesn't see it hit, server checks it and sides with the Killer and awards a hit.

Anything that increases win odds by using external software could be considered "cheating" .

Even if devs have given comms a "special treatment" by removing it from the "no external software" rule, it is absolutely an advantage against the killer that the survivors were not supposed to have. Advantage that the game was not built to support. If DBD had Voice Chat , than yes it would not be cheating in the slightest.

Were killers balanced against comms ? No, because there are no comms in the game.

As stated above : the majority of trials are made up of solo queue (56%), duos make up approximately 40%.

Which means that swf teams of four with chat on are a very small minority. One that gives devs reason not to balance against. One that uses software to up their chances. So no reason for killers not to be balanced against that.

The basekit that can be given the killers with a special condition :

If survivor team consists of a pre-made group of 4 friends , the killer will see an aura of a random survivor every 40s for 2s.

Since survivors broadcast everything to each other , the killer can be given a bit of that info too. No arguments against something like this.

The fact that people agree with you is genuinely disturbing

When DBD was first made, it wasn't made with the idea of all 4 people being able to team up 'vocally' in mind... It just became a feature later on. SWF is a huge advantage over Solo so I'd like to see some sort of disadvantage down the line even if its minor.

    It literally was.

    Stop repeating false information.

  • lmao.

This was addressed in like 2017, it's not cheating no matter how much you might want it to be.

No, it's just human nature to seek the path of least adversity.

Players will always optimize the fun out of a game. Unfortunately for you, the Devs understand this and aren't interested in giving Killers more free wins and boosting their ego's even more.

  • @biggybiggybiggens said:

All they'd have to do to see what type of game people want to play is add a separate SWF mode to matchmaking. You can only Q up in SWF mode if you have 1 or more people grouped up with you obviously. Killers could then Q up against SWF or normal and I promise you, immediately, the devs would notice that 0 Killer players are willingly going to Q up for that trash.. But they know this already and that's why this idea of mine doesn't exist.. :P What a paradox.

Yeah, you're basically giving people a guaranteed cakewalk game or asking them to have a modicum of challenge. Of course they're gonna take the easy way, that's just human nature.
