I'm not the one you're asking but I can answer the question.
Original: The concept behind Skull Merchant was excellent. A killer who is a jack of all trades but a smidge underwhelming at base who then chooses a specialization via addons sounds really really cool to me. The options and flexibility were super appealing to me. Yes, 3 gen Merchant was a problem and needed changed, but outside of that admittedly big problem, she had a lot of potential to be interesting and fun.
Rework: She seems much less of a jack of all trades now because her addon effects got moved behind claw traps and lost exposed... but in exchange she got much stronger stealth and "traps" with the drones directly injuring. I like both stealth killers and trap killers, so I personally am still 100% here for playing SM.
I disagree and will leave it at that.
Thanks for responding tho, appreciate it.

"Heck, I even played competitively with Killers like Wraith and Wesker."
I'd love to watch a video of you playing against a competitive SWF as Wraith. xD
It was...extremely stressful.
Iirc, I got 3 Kills with 10 hooks on Dead Dawg but god damn dude, that was extremely stressful.

Killers are only strong in solo queue, but you know that.
Game would be in a healthier state if they removed tunneling and camping as strategies, made solo queue better, and buffed killers as a whole to deal with how fast gens can go and with tunneling and camping removed.
I feel like that's simply not true.
A SWF does not make those 4 players good. It gives them tools, but it doesn't magically increase their game sense or awareness of macro play.
If you're a good Killer, you'll still win the vast majority of your matches, even against SWF's.
Heck, I even played competitively with Killers like Wraith and Wesker.

The only way to remove tunneling is by removing incentive to tunnel. I highly doubt you can do that without completely reworking the game from scratch.
It would need to have something to do with re-balancing the 4v1 and 3v1.
The 4v1 is somewhat Survivor favored, though not as much as it has been in the past. The 3v1 is very Killer favored, which is one of the main draws of tunneling.

I said you cannot fix 'Tunneling' without nerfing their ability to 'ability to eliminate someone from the game when they NEED to.'
I did not say "Killers tunnel because of X."
It's not my fault you instantly went for the us vs them/low hanging fruit.
I do not believe my statement was us vs them. Could you elaborate? I do actively try to avoid that.
I view it is a clarification of why people tunnel. This is vitally important to the discussion you are trying to facilitate, as I'm sure you know. If people tunnel out of a necessity because the game is so imbalanced, then that's very different then for example, tunneling to mess with someone or tunneling because it's easy.
I think that's an important thing to state.
-
@Raccoon said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3600540#Comment_3600540
I never said that was the reason killers tunnel.
Thanks for your input.
"eliminate someone from the game when they NEED to (ie - the game is going poorly, they need a come back, etc)."
You are welcome for the input.
-
I think it's naive to think that the majority of Killers tunnel because they "would auto-lose" without it.
Most Killers tunnel because it's easy, extremely effective and very difficult to counter without a coordinated team.
-
Gee, I wonder why Killers don't have Devour Hope basekit.
Snarkiness aside, I don't think Killers need any basekit adjustment at this time. A couple of years ago, you could've convinced me, but Killer today is pretty strong.
Plus, if you get rid of Corrupt and make it basekit, that just frees up a slot for more regression.
-
I'd love to see average gen time stats.
Like, on average, how long does it take Survivors to finish a gen? How much regression does the Killer inflict on average?
How fast does the first gen pop? How about the 2nd 3rd or 4th?
-
"You literally can't catch up to survivor without BL3"
I feel like that's just....not true at all

@RpTheHotrod said:

A killer protecting a 3 gen from the beginning and not leaving it is a recipie for a loss for the killer. Having 4 survivors alive all without any hooks and one gen left to do, if the killer actually wins that, he deserves the win, lol.
That is not what I'm speaking of.
You don't need to only exist within a 3-gen to hold it.
It's pretty easy to do, honestly. Run Corrupt, PGTW and PR. Use PGTW on the gens you want to keep, PR will slow the game down and Corrupt allows you to easily ID 3-gens.
It's really not hard to do and it's extremely effective.
-
@RpTheHotrod said:
Interesting idea, but frankly, if the survivors made super bad decisions in their gen planning to set themselves up with a 3 gen situation and are unable to break it, then they should have to deal with their failure. I'd say have the egc timer start, and they only have a limited time to get those generators done, lol. Either that, or 2 v 1 with no significant progress in gens would end up spawning the hatch. First one who escapes gets out and the entity takes the other - every man for himself. If the killer finds hatch first, then the entity takes both survivors.
While it is true that Survivors can force themselves into a 3-gen, I've found that generally, Killers will identify and hold them from the beginning of the game.
This could be addressed in spawn logic, but with maps seemingly getting smaller every update, the room for gen spread decreases.
-
I think that's kind of true, but there are rarely Killers that so fundamentally change the game that you're skills as a general Killer player wouldn't translate.

I believe it's an mmr-thing. Back when I was a baby-killer I have seen it regularly - hell I started as a Pinhead main.
These days it just never happens, even if I hard-tunnel with Skull Merchant.
I think that's somewhat accurate.
Newer Survivors are more likely to DC or give up due to not understanding the game yet.
Mid-MMR Survivors are more likely to stay due to needing BP or challenges.
High-MMR Survivors are more likely to DC because they'd rather find something else lol
That's how it's been in my experience. Really good players didn't bother against SM, they just quit immediately.

I know you weren't asking me, but as a former console player, it's definitely the disparity between keyboard and controller. At least in my experience, the game is way easier to play on keyboard and mouse. A joystick just doesn't have the same accuracy that a mouse does.
It's not super noticable on non-ranged killers, but I find it far easier to actually look around with a mouse.
It's also the FPS.
It is FAR easier to react with 60, much less 120, frames than with 30 or less.

In my experience Scamper wasn't a problem anymore. However, if it is still too quick, then they should nerf Scamper one more time for sure. I was more thinking of his Slice and Dice ability, which allows for a good amount of counterplay.
It's the Scamper + Slice and Dice for me personally.
They are both versatile on their own but together they are difficult to deal with effectively.

Dismissal disguised as empathy.

Definitely disagree with that. Depending on the loop, you can definitely dodge his dash if played correctly. Often you simply have to predict where he will be coming from, you can't just react to him. Which is what makes these interactions fair for both sides. If you could just react to his dash and dodge it, it would be bad.
Also, if you are at a filler pallet loop, and he uses his dash, it's pretty much a 50/50 mindgame. As a survivor, you have to try and predict from which side he will dash, and if you predict correctly, you mostly get a stun against him. This often works at windows too.
The only exception I guess is his 180 degree flick potential, which can make certain situations undodgeable that should have been dodgeable. Surely not every situation, but some, and that should be fixed.
He can Dash under pallets multiple times, so it doesn't really matter if you drop it
He forces you to play EVERY pallet for a stun

Really? He has quite a bit of counterplay if you ask me.
Not really.
Pretty much every loop is unsafe against him and with the ability to flick, he's not able to be juked easily.
So the counterplay is to hold W and M1.

Literally every other game on the planet balances around the top players. Thats literally the best way to balance the game because who wants to be punished for getting better at the game? Once your players reach higher MMR they are not gonna wanna play anymore because it's extremely unbalanced. Most of the time those changes rarely have a negative impact on players who are at a lower level. As it often targets methods, strats and etc that lower level players don't understand or even know about.
You can't balance a game around people who struggle to even boot the game up. Especially in a game where there's two very distinct sides. If it was a fighting game or a shooter you could just use broken strat but there is no option here for that.
Otherwise you are gonna have people trying to yank their MMR so they can get better matches. The game should make you STRIVE to do better not worse. You are straight up talking about making the game a worse experience as you go on. There's only so much you can do when the other side has a plethora of handicaps.
I am vaguely uninterested in arguing this point simply because I've had this argument numerous times before and I care not enough to do so again.
You genuinely think DBD would be better if we catered to people like me? That's genuinely surprising because it promotes the MOST boring parts of DBD and will remove any individuality.

Yes, you particularly said "Balance" ,however, if we "Balance" for the majority of people, we'll be forced to buff Nurse.
Since you know, if you include all MMRs, nurse has the lowest Killrate.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/5RJE4QLH24JN/image.png
You cannot balance the game around survivors that run into walls or nurses that blink into basements.
There has to be an MMR cut-off where you tell people to get good instead of listening to demands for nerfs to the other side.
Nurse still has over a 50% KR in those stats, ergo, she's fine.
-
@Reinami said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3595736#Comment_3595736
So then you probably know what my next response will be then?
When are my nurse buffs coming in? Since every time BHVR releases killer stats, she is by far the lowest kill rate killer in the game.
Balancing around the top != balancing with consideration to the top.
You can create Killers, like Blight, who are balanced at a casual level and still viable competitively. I think, realistically, Nurse just makes a lot of people motion sick.
But no, I wouldn't be against making her easier to play, as I've stated the last few times we've had this conversation.
-
@WilliamSN said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3595553#Comment_3595553
Or you know, just teach the 90% how to actually play instead of dumbing down the game for them.
If the 10% knows how to shut down the killers power to the point the killer has a 20% KR, then the killer is actually weak once the survivors stop Running into walls.
If you nerf a killer that has a 20% KR vs 10% of the pop, then said killer is going to 0% KR vs the 10%, that is not fun for anyone and the killer will not be played at all.
Where did I say nerf.
I promise you, I am very particular in the words I choose. It's not an accident.

This leads to the death of games. Trickle down balance is the way to go.
I will not be watching that video for the fourth time. I saw it when it came out, and I have watched it every time you've linked it.
I absolutely DARE you to watch what happens if we balance for comp players. Hell, balance for me. You absolutely will not like it, nor will the VAST majority of players.
Now, YOU may be fine with the game dying and having a measly playerbase, but I highly doubt BHVR wants to lose that revenue. They are a business, first and foremost, and they will generally err on the side of the majority consumer. That means the casual player, if we get to a point where the majority consumer if a comp player, we've gone down a dark path indeed.

I'm sorry whole team doesn't have free 20 sec self-healing because of someone's one perk. Poor poor survivors with nerfed healing. It's not like healing is so free right now, that first healing perk is only on the 16th place in popularity.
So, returning to the topic, how you see nerfing Mangled and Sloppy with 20% longer healing, when, for example, Botany already neutralizes this effect and provides additional 30%? Seems very logical and fair to you, doesn't it?

Not world-endijy, I assure you.

No, you balance for the most amount of people possible.
If a Killer is rocking a 85% KR against 90% of Survivors, but only 20% against the other 10%, that's still an issue and they need to be changed.

This roadmap may as well be called "the survivor's wishlist". Survivors are getting everything they want. 3 gens are going to be gutted, STBFL and ultimate weapon are going to be gutted, mangled as a whole is going to be gutted, and DS is going to be buffed. That's the direction we're going in and it's going to be awful.
But hey, they're giving killers an FoV slider (it only took them 7 some odd years, but hey, better late than never right?) and they might shave a second off the twin's return animation and call that a rework, so hurray. They threw killers the tiniest scrap of bone and called it a day.
