Well, holding matches hostage is a pretty low bar, honestly.

I could make a similar argument against Dead Hard. An activatable third health state is far too strong for an Exhaustion perk. It punishes lunging, counters several Killers' powers, makes the Killer second-guess every swing, buys you extra time and gives you a chance to escape even if you get caught in the open; and if successfully activated, gives more value than any other Exhaustion perk by a huge margin. And that's after the nerf. Strong, overused, and unfun to play against.

I had sort of hoped Eruption wouldn't go live after it was on the PTB, but hey, took people a while I guess.

That's all assuming you actually LAND the DH. It can be baited out, it can get hard countered by Killer powers and it's harder to use than any other Exhaustion perk. It can also get cucked hard by latency. If the Killer has a connection over 100ms, good luck landing that #########.

If you get hit by DH out in the open, that's completely on you. There's absolutely no excuse for that, the advantage is completely on your side as Killer in that scenario.

i don't think so. coal tower has ton of pallet and linking. Iron works is really big map. Suffocation pit in the middle is an actual nightmare if the setup is remotely possible to link.

Shelter woods is really killer sided for wrong reasons which is there is way too few pallets on the map. I am so happy they're fixing that in next chapter. one of best changes in tool of torment chapter.

Autohaven maps are survivor sided however Wretched shop has shelter wood problem too little pallets. they need add few more pallets on it and azeroth resting place is an annoying 3 gen map. its survivor sided if the killer has no 3 gen kick perks but killer sided if he does. it is lop-sided map with different imbalances.

Coal Tower is a small map that has fair tiles.

Iron Works is larger but the tiles are spaced out, there can be a lot of dead zones.

Suffocation Pit OFTEN spawns 5-gens on either side. There's little reason to traverse the middle.

Aazarov's Resting Place has the same issue as Suffo Pit, it can spawn 5-gens AND can have massive deadzones.

Wretched Shop has few pallets and a lot of dead zones.

Wrecker's Yard is tiny and can have bad 3-gens and dead zones.

Blood Lodge is bigger but has some really awful 4-gen spots.

So what is it that justifies the nerf to Eruption, and essentially nothing else?

The fact that it can be used to hold matches hostage, much like Boil Over was able to do.

Also, Incapacitated is far too strong on a perk with no cooldown that can be applied to multiple gens. I would've been fine with it being changed to gen blocking.

You have the strangest sense of time, my dude. 3 years of meta dominance isn't enough for you? Any serious multiplayer game dev would look utterly incompetent for letting the meta stagnate and ignoring complaints for that long. Like, it's really not that hard to have the meta cycle through different things as time goes on.

What made the perk strong, what made the perk overused, and what made the perk unfun are all still there. Hence the complaints continue.

If you think Dead Hard doesn't need a nerf, name one Survivor perk that does.

Currently? I don't think any Survivor perks need nerfs. I think a lot need buffed.

I also think that, barring Eruption, no Killer perks need to be nerfed. Most of the Killer perks need to be buffed as well.

I think a lot of the imbalance right now comes from map design, map offerings, items and add-ons.

Nurse HAS actually been queen for 6 years. Blight's been #2 for 3 years now. Other than some of his add-ons, I think Blight is in a fine state. Strong and popular doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be nuked. There have certainly been innumerable complaints about Blight and Nurse over the years and yet, curiously, they remain #1 and #2, respectively.

For someone who's so critical of others for avoiding the point, it's strange that you, once again, didn't really answer someone's question. If DH doesn't warrant a nerf, what does?

I believe I did, I addressed your supporting arguments, which were false.

DH hasn't been complained about for 6 years. It's really been complained about for 3-ish. Dedicated Servers were pretty garbage when they first came out and that made DH suck for a while. Then they added hit validation and I think that's when I started noticing a LOT more complaints, rightly so.

Dead Hard got it's nerf. It is FAR weaker than it was and its no longer a skill-less "i win" button.

I could maybe see giving it a 60 second timer instead of 40, but I don't think it currently needs a nerf.

I do not recall seeing a single Killer complaint about Windows of Opportunity in all the time I've been on this forum, so that rules out the "unfun" component of "unfun and overused".

Dead Hard has had, what? 6 years of dominance over the meta, and 6 years of widespread complaints? It's the Ruin of Survivor perks, only it's survived multiple waves of perk changes that Ruin didn't. If DH doesn't warrant a nerf, what does?

Actually, Balanced was the preferred Exhaustion perk for quite some time.

I'd say I only REALLY started noticing DH more after Dedicated Servers were implemented.

I like how you picked out the more emotionally-charged argument that looked weaker, and not the one above it, quoting you, pointing out that Dead Hard has more than fulfilled the prerequisites for something to get nerfed.

I point out things that I think are intriguing, that usually means I think they're wrong.

Unfortunately, BHVR's track record does indeed indicate that they nerf things based off of popularity. There's really not much to argue with there, whether or not it deserves to be nerfed again is likely irrelevant. In my original statement, I was implying that people were upset they were doing that and therefore, we should not be using popularity as an argument.

    Gilded, preferably.

As an aside, I think I saw you on scrim nights, I thought you played super well!

  • Most of the MacMillan and Autohaven maps are Killer-sided I feel, besides Gas Heaven and Groaning Storehouse.

RPD is probably Killer-sided but the map is just miserable, Midwich is Killer-sided.

I think Lery's is Killer-sided as well, though perhaps Killer-leaning would be more accurate. I think the same of The Game, depending on the Killer.

    You already mentioned Dead Dawg

Don't get me wrong, nuking perks is something I don't think should be the go-to solution to this issue. But what else are you going to do at this point? The pick rate shouldn't be as high as it is. Especially when that perk requires counterplay that consists of waiting.

Reasonable nerfs aren't going to cut it because there are too many people that will not stop bringing DH religiously. The remaining options are to nuke DH or to rework it from the ground up. I'm fine with either of those.

I just want that stupid waiting and spinning to bait out a hit or giving free health states in my matches to end.

So we should nuke Windows and Pain res too?

Their usage rates are also absurdly high AND Pain Res got "nerfed" in 6.1.0

You're right. That doesn't mean it's not the most used perk anymore though.

In my matches there are at least 2 DHs still. Anything below that is a very rare and very welcome occurence.

Mhmmm. I thought we didn't want to nuke perks simply because they were popular? Self-Care and PGTW come to mind.

A perk that is used in every match (almost) up to 4 times... for 6 years is a red flag. Alright?

We are surely dealing and baiting it out... but it's *everytime*

Even if you were to take nightlight's stats (which are unreliable at best), the perk's overall usage is still FAR below what is was prior to the patch.

Not fully ture there are plenty of maps still that have many strong loops were multiple chases and downs just won't happen fast enough aginst decent survivors. There's items and perks that can make the first few gens go by so fast that wit in 2 minutes your already almost at end game and you've only had one chase.

One big misconception is only top survivors are a real problem when thos is not true because most killer player aren't otz we are just some person thay like playing killer for a few hours and don't want to have a sweat fest every game.

I see alot of casual player stuff thr9wn around on these forums and in videos but it's almost never talking about the casual killer. Most survivors shouldn't have to have every map memorized to play effectively, I agreee but why is it expected for every killer to know every map by heart or they just suck and need to get better.

I would argue that in casual gameplay, the game actually leans into the Killers favor.

I disagree. Neither of them can detect survivors outside their TR. Doc's also has a decently long CD on his shock.

Her detection outside of her TR is incredibly situational.

Yeah because of licenses and the fact it doesn't have any real competition. If TCM is a hit it might tank DBDs players entirely unless DBD is able to change and increase both long term player base and keep the short term (Aka balancing around top levels of play but keeping SOME things in mind for lower level players)

The only thing that is capable of killing DBD is DBD.

  • @Xernoton said:

I think next is gonna be Overcharge or CoB, possibly both. Both incentivise 3 gen camping. That's incredibly boring to play and play against. I wouldn't be sad to see these 2 perks out of the meta. Kicking gens instead of chasing is not particularly fun for me.

Maybe this is necessary though. Maybe gen regression perks really need to be gutted so hard that nobody will run them anymore. That would at least show what a monstrosity the devs have created when it comes to gen speed modifiers. The game can take 60 minutes or 4 minutes depending on what perks, items and addons are in the match. That's ridiculous.

    I agree.

    There's far too much variance.

-"calling me a Survivor main attempting to spread disinformation"

The way you were speaking it sounded just like that. Maybe you should be more careful how you say what you say - especially if you agree with my points. When I brought it up it was not to say : you're a survivor therefore nothing you have to say is valid; my intent was to say people who only have play one side really don't understand this game's nuance.

This forum and the steam discussion have always been filled with people yelling for knee jerk nerf reactions.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3360357#Comment_3360357

-"It's just surprising to me that people think Killer isn't the best it's ever been."

You also spew nonsense like this.

In some aspects killer was more fun in ~August 2016 than it is now. Why? Pallet looping didn't exist. Pallets were insanely weak because they had a delay before you got stunned and had something like a -40% hitbox for the stun compared to now. You died on hook much faster; on top of that a lot of people tried to escape from the hook as a regular event. NOED lasted forever, gave you 9% movement speed and was not a hex.

There was a lot of bad things in 2016 but it was a more fun experience overall - not because the game was new but because the game was just different. DBD used to be mostly about hide and seek not "chase me".

You could list all the really bad things in 2016 and that would be a fair counter argument. But then I would say what about in August of 2017 when we had super bloodlust? That was way more fun to play killer than now. Dead hard didn't exist yet so playing killer was still good.

Soon after we had the era of DH, DS, BT, unbreakable and that was not very fun to play against as killer.

Let me guess- like most people you didn't play DBD during either of those eras?

Read for yourself how strong old bloodlust was :

    https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/comments/63grv5/new_mechanic_bloodlust_description/

Notice that the decay was in no way tied to kicking a pallet so you could pallet break and then keep your BL.

Maybe you should not instantly attack people for daring to have a different opinion than you. If you had actually bothered to read instead of having a knee-jerk reaction, you'd see that I didn't advocate for any balance changes.

Killer is easier in 2023 than it was in 2016. You can have your rose-tinted glasses, but the rest of us live in reality.

  • Unfortunately, it seems very likely.

I'd rather get some variety before we go back to the Resident Evil Bargain Bin. To be clear, I'm not opposed to another RE Chapter, I just am not even remotely interested at this time.

  • We've finally discovered the third way to leave a trial, simply tear down the world.

Yes, the game should be balanced in such a way that appeals to both the average player and the top player. Ideally you would target the upper 50% with more weight towards those in the middle. Players should have to understand that they need a certain level of absolute knowledge in a game.

Looking at the current state of the game now and how changes have been implemented that doesn't appear to be the case. I have no idea who they're targeting with some of these balance changes.

What was the point of killing Self Care?

How did CoH make it into the game with a 100% boost to healing?

Why was the initial decision to kill Eruption?

There needs to be a more cohesive and targeted vision behind these changes.

See, this is a position I can understand. It's reasonable and well thought-out.

We can balance things for the top % of players without balancing around them

  • @HamsterEnjoyer said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3360587#Comment_3360587

No. Balancing around the average player is how you decimate a games longevity especially one like DBD.

All balancing around average players does is keep new players playing for a month or two then dropping it for something else while the ones who stay committed will eventually leave once they get good enough due to the horrendous balance.

Oh, my apologies, I forgot how balancing around the average player has only kept this game going for, what, nearly 7 years?

  • @HamsterEnjoyer said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3359055#Comment_3359055

I mean if you want a balanced and good game you should only listen to top players that's kinda common knowledge with game balance. Balancing around lower level play is how we got into this huge mess to begin with.

Balancing around top level play will kill the game.

    Balance around the average player.

dbd and competitive can't stay in the same phrase... YOU CAN'T perfectly balance an asymmetrical game, especially when there are so many characters/stuff to put into the equation (in this case killers, perks and items/addons)... out of curiosity, did you play in eu servers? This could be another possible reason regarding the differences that you found in your matches

I do not play in EU.

  • @DBDVulture said:

You didn't make any meaningful reply to any point I made. All you said was :

"you don't have any good arguments"

Tunneling is efficient gameplay for both sides. This is why survivors will take a hit when a gen is at 99% progress so they can finish while the killer is in the recovery animation. That type of play makes for very bad vibes - but it wins. The error in your thought process is that it is only a problem when a killer tunnels.

What does a survivor get for finishing a generator? You get 1/5 of your objective done. What do you get for one hook on a survivor? Nothing. What do you get for one hook on three survivors? You get nothing. What do you get for hooking one person three times? You get a kill.

Listen to what the big streamers say who play both sides. They say : the survivor sets the pace for the game. They are either chill or they blast gens.

Regardless of what you say you are - you have a disillusioned view on balance.

Oh, no, I was replying to you calling me a Survivor main attempting to spread disinformation. I found that to be both amusing and very sad, as it shows you need to resort to ad hominin attacks rather than actually bolstering your argument. It is interesting to me that you and @ProfessorDunwich tried the same thing on the same day.

I never said tunneling wasn't a good or efficient strategy. In fact, I explicitly said that it was necessary if Survivors have decided to be optimal. You certainly can't expect to win against optimal players if you aren't also playing optimally.

The simple fact of the matter is this: most players are not good. You do not need to tunnel every game. However, tunneling is easy. It's simple, efficient and is difficult to counter. Players will always optimize the fun out of games, be they Survivor or Killer, and tunneling's prevalence is simply more proof of that.

tsk tsk, it's you that aren't putting enough pressure, jUst 4pplY pr3ssUr3!1!

now, talking seriously, this IS the norm on dbd nowdays: you don't have the time to do nothing as killer, especially if you are playing with a non meta killer (and sometimes even when you are playing with them). Each patch released from the devs is only driving me (and other people) away from this game.

I'm really not finding this to be the norm.

Gens can go quickly, but quick gens lead to sacrifices in other areas that I can easily capitalize on.

I think what a lot of people are really disliking is the shift towards more macro-heavy gameplay. DBD has slowly shifted away from being a game where you can just sit down and auto-pilot, but still put up a lot of hooks or kills. Same with the Survivor side of things.

It's become more competitive and it's understandable that a lot of people are struggling with that AND that they dislike it.

Why should one killer player have an effortless time getting a 4k, but four survivor players should not have an effortless time escaping?

Why is it that a killer not being able to effortlessly 4k means killer is in the worst state it's ever been?

Can I just ask why you don't have much faith? They've produced some incredible horror movies in the past (Get Out, Us, Split, Sinister, among others). I think it more-so depends on who the director will be. They even mention working with James Wan who co-created Saw and Insidious. I actually have decent faith in this project. Though I will say, depends largely on whoever directs this. Also, the upcoming FNAF movie with Blumhouse will probably be a sneak peak at how they want to turn video games into movies. If the FNAF one is actually good, I trust the DBD one will be too.

They've made a LOT more ######### movies than good one's.

Get Out and Us are entirely Jordan Peele. Split was the one with James Mcavoy?

I think it does come down to who's directing it. If it's left to Blumhouse, it's not gonna be good.

  • I don't have a lot of faith in blumhouse so I expect it to be centered around the the four original Survivors hunting down Vigo or clues about him

I also think the villain will be Wraith. He's the easiest to make jumpscares with

  • If you're having trouble with Killer right now, it's usually down to individual skill or errors.

  • She looks like an Apex character. She also seems like she's designed to sell skins as sex appeal.

Same with the two Survivors, although they at least look like they belong in DBD.

Her power is inferior to every other Killers power. She feels like a worse attempt at making a Demo-style Killer. Demo had anti-loop, "stealth" and mobility. He wasn't exceptional at any of those three, but he had them and together it made him good. SM has extremely limited stealth, which is an outdated mechanic. She also has Exposed, which isn't really that good anymore, it's also very limited. Her best feature is probably tracking, but it's ,AGAIN, so limited it may as well not exist. Demo's core features were strong ideas that made him good, SM cote features are just outright bad in some cases and outdated in others.

She brings absolutely nothing good to the table and I'm glad people have been calling out BHVR for their terrible design on this one. It's incredibly disappointing.
