    Reworked to be stronger??

You used to need to wiggle until 30% if you weren't the obcesion

    Now you don't

This rework is needed for a fair balance

Stronger my arse. You used to get DS'ed 4 times before getting the first hook in the game. There was no prerequisite to using DS. You would have 3-4 gens done before you could get someone on a hook in some games because everyone could DS out before you ever got a freaking hook. This new DS is way, way weaker. It is only strong if the killer is tunneling you. I get DS'ed about twice a week, sometimes upwards of 5 times. It is usually when the survivor is trying to be in my way because they have DS. The only change that is needed is DS should deactivate if you hop in a locker. Sorry, but that is the only real abuse I see. If they hope in my way, I down them and keep going. A slugged players is 2 off the gens. If they hop in a locker, it is merely to try and get me to pull them out for the DS. Disable that function and you have a perk that works fine. Slugging is a fine option if they get dumb.

I enjoy the implementation of stealth. There are no "stealth mechanics". If you want not to be seen, you just make sure you're not visible on the Killer's screen. That includes blending in with the background, not moving, or just twisting 90 degrees so your toolbox doesn't stick out past the edge of the tree.

    I like the crazy moments:

    https://www.twitch.tv/almo2001/clip/TardyBoxyChickpeaKappa

    https://www.twitch.tv/almo2001/clip/NastyImpartialTruffleSoBayed

I also like how direct the contact with other players is in this game. Shooters often feel less personal, as you almost never interact directly with an opponent; it's usually from a distance. You heal each other, you rescue each other, you hit Suvivors with knives and bludgeons, you pick them up, and carry them where they don't want to go.

Shame there is so much aura site that breaks stealth. I love stealth, but it is not a functional option/alternative in most games. That goes for both survivor and killer. Seems every match has OoO that destroys my Pig or Trapper. As survivor there is constant Chili, IAE, Murmur, and countless addons.

I wish stealth were a true option, but stealth almost entirely depends on the killer just not being very observant.

  • What keeps me playing is the hope of what this game could be in the right hands.

About every 14 to 20th match I get one that was just a lot of fun. As killer it was a great game of cat and mouse with a good group. Win/lose, we have some laughs in chat afterwards. At that point, I wish there was a function to invite them to a private lobby for custom matches that actually counted in some form of casual mode. As survivor, it is a fun killer - which means he did not hardcore tunnel or camp, there was lots of mind games, cat and mouse, and win/lose it was worth a friendly chat in the end.

Unfortunately, the 19 matches in between are filled with try-hard salty players that are toxic as hell. The developers/game managers encourage it with their policies and massive bugs/loopholes as well as poor game play design. If they ever pulled their heads out of their arse and made this game more balanced, punished outright toxic behavior and tried to fix some of the glaring issues in this game, it would be amazing!

But...I guess the devs are basically the Entity. They want us to have hope, just to yank it away in the end. Sad, really sad.

  • I hate tunnel/camp, but if you unhook a survivor before I can leave the hook, I will tunnel you out of the game. I just did that earlier today. We were 8 minutes or so into the game, I had been leaving every hook after breaking any nearby pallets/kicking gens. I usually had someone injured before anyone got unhooked. Yet this Claudette decides to unhook someone as soon as I backed up from the hook. So, I ran her down, hooked her, then stood around until she got unhooked and ran her down again. THey asked why at the end of the match, I told them why. She had no BT, I continuously left the hook, she risked Bill getting hosed by unhooking before I could even leave. She was the only one that had a problem with it. She blamed the others.

    Crap team members.

That would seem toxic. That said, we see none of the game that happened before that and you have a purple flashlight. For all we know you were in a toxic swf tbagging and flashlight flicking him all game, we have no idea.

The amount of times I see a killer do something like that when no one was toxic on our team is extremely, extremely rare.

Just saying it seems odd for a person to randomly do that for no reason.

Having a flashlight means nothing. It is a tool in the game. I agree that the person may have been toxic to the killer all game and perhaps warranted some form of "justice". That said, the reason I play killer is because I got tired of constant toxic killers. They are not rare. They are nearly the norm now days. I would rather farm BP off of 4 toxic survivors and at least get a good 20-30k BP reward for my efforts than get hook farmed out of a match with 4k by a toxic killer.

Your mileage may vary based on your experience, but I've found the frequency of toxic survivors is about he same per match as toxic killers.

  • No. The 99'ing of the doors is a counter to BW and EGC. It is also done at a risk. I have caught many survivors because they miss-timed the effort. Taking away a strategic counter because it works is not creating balance. I hate seeing the 3 lights and no survivor at the door as much as the next killer, but I'm not going to sweat the fact that they are willing to risk getting killed in order to counter what I'm doing. It's all part of the game to begin with. Mind games.

Especially since the gates constantly spawn in close proximity or in site of each other. I can't tell you how many times I've sat with Huntress and been able to hit both levers with axes while having a locker nearby. Or with Trapper I can sit and watch anyone trying to disarm the trap on either gate without moving.

Make the gates spawn as far from each other as possible and ensure there are LoS barriers in front of it and then perhaps regression is warranted. That hinders both sides and their current tactics and adds a whole new level of gameplay.

  • It's sad you even have to ask. Camping is lazy, toxic, and on it's own a very bad plan. There are times in some matches where camping is the best strategy, those are uncommon. Camping from the start only works at low ranks or bad survivors.

Survivor role has one objective until the gens are done; do the gens. There is no gen rush. Are they supposed to crouch in a corner and wait? Do we, as killers, hide in a corner and count to 60 before we start looking for prey? Is that a kill rush? No. Are gens fast? Yes, but the idea is to snowball as the match goes forward.

If you are camping, you will not likely snowball the match very well. You won't slow things down well and be forced to rely on perks like NOED. Then wonder why good survivor teams destroy you at higher ranks.

  • Pathetic. Whoever that was acts like someone who does not know what winning is. They clearly don't win often because they have no idea how to do it with any level of class whatsoever. Not bannable, of course, but pretty much shows where they are on the human evolution scale....pretty low down on that chain.

  • I get what you guys are saying, but the freezes tend to center around events. It's weird. So as a skill check starts to pop up, it is an "event' occurring and freezes for a second. Same thing with grabs and swings sometimes. I've seen it happen if I hook someone while someone else is in struggle, they suddenly die, but that one seems specific.

Really good job so far on these servers.

  • The only thing I don't like about this is server instability. I've seen it myself, and talked to many players in post chat about it. The server lag is real. Many missed skill checks, or grab freezes. I've had complete "pauses" and BOOM, gen blows up. I don't want people dying on the second stage like crazy because the server lags, or someone's connection goes. That is less BP for me as killer and it could impact scoring for rank.

I don't like it. You can perhaps have it work in a way that gets you extra points, but does not hasten your death. I just don't want people dying after 2 hooks constantly because of various forms of lag.

  • Can't be much worse than what the current matchmaking system is. I had rank 16 thru 20 survivors (all 4) in a match last night during primetime. The match after that was appropriate ranks, then a mix of rainbows.

Yeah, I'll take whatever dumpster fires they have to set to get this right eventually.

I enjoy solo queue survivor. I feel like it makes me a better player because of all the ######### I put up with. I think if you can get good at being a solo queue survivor, you'd be a good asset to any SWF team. Also, I am used to adapting from playing bot lane in league and support in OW, so I guess it just bothers me less.

I think recently hit red ranks killer is a much worse experience, as you are bombarded with nonstop SWF and have no idea how to handle them.

I think the biggest reason for this is due to the horrible habits we pick up as killers climbing through the ranks. When I was rank 6 to 16 I was wrecking the survivors 80% of the time or more. Just absolute destruction. When I got to rank 5, I started to see a need to become more cerebral. It took a while, but I did learn better habits and tricks. The skill-level of survivors jumped several notches once I hit rank 3-4. When I play solo survivor, I see a lot of bad survivors and really bad killers. Killers that rely too much on tunneling or NOED to carry them through matches. It works because as bad as they are, the survivors are even worse. They do nothing to help that killer learn to grow. Out of curiosity I started watching a few killer mains stream. They were a handful of ones I ran into during playing solo matches who were ridiculously bad, but still got 3k's. I watched them over a few weeks as they leveled up. I tried to warn them as they started hitting purple ranks that they should try some matches without NOED. They should try pressuring the gens more and not returning to the hook after every unhook. These guys would literally leave a chase to run back to the hook. None of them listened.

Fast-forward a bit and they are rank 5, but not for long. They start getting absolutely destroyed by both SWF and solo groups that are mostly rank 2-4. They start crying about survivor being OP. There is no doubt that a coordinated SWF is OP, but most of these were not those SWF groups. The problem was the bad habits and total lack of skills these killers established as they leveled up. Everyone of them ran the same perks every game. BBQ, NOED, PGTW and then a mix of a few others, like MYC, BW, etc. They completely relied on NOED to save them and would even say so during games. "....we're really behind in this one, they are good, but NOED will get us a few kills at the end..." All of a sudden, NOED was not working. Either the survivors were able to out game them, or cleansed the totems. A couple of since started opening up to advice, but the rest are still in denial that they are not as good as they think they are. Being in red and purple ranks does not mean you are good, everyone can get there.

Solo survivor gameplay not only sucks for many solo players, it does a very bad job preparing newer killers for the red ranks. It's a shame because this game should be fun for both sides.

  • I don't get the PGTW hate lately. This perk has been around forever and no complaints. Then it is suddenly a problem.

For matter, Devour Hope too. I was called sweaty for running Devour Hope. Huh? Not that I worry about a whiney complaint, but I'm quite curious as to how these things got to this point.

  • lol Meyers is likely the most balanced killer in the game. Pretty salty of them to call it broken. lol

Midwhich gives me migraines. The entire thing is a blur of color due to my colorblindness. I just go hang out in the courtyard and look at the ground while walking around. If I try to do more, I end up with a migraine.

You're certainly not wrong about there not being sweaty Killers, because there certainly are! Personally I think they should incorporate bots into custom matches so that way people don't have to search for friends in order to get a non-toxic game going, plus it would give new players a chance to practice without having to worry about competing.

I am glad though that the developers fully admitted that ranks don't matter (which begs the question, "why then bother with rank resets?"). The new MMR obviously won't get rid of toxicity, but hopefully it can keep the casual DBD community playing with each other, and keep the toxic hardcore red rank community where they belong.

I really like that bots idea. That would be great for new players.

Getting matched up with or against players far more experienced or inexperienced than yourself is dead by daylight's biggest issue. No one wants to get wrecked over and over again, especially when you're playing killer. Killers are what you should fear in this game, but sweaty swf are the real threat. I've had so many bad experiences with toxic swf that I'm purposefully waiting until the new matchmaking is implemented on PS4 before I play any more killer. Which is sad given that there so few killer mains on PS4 already.

Dbd is a lot of fun to play, but the toxicity is what prevents this game from expanding it's player base. The only reason why certain swf groups can bully a killer is because the game gives them the tools to do so, otherwise survivors would stay as far from the killer as possible and not take the chance to body block, etc.

Though I absolutely agree with you on what you said, don't leave out the toxicity of killers as well. I have several friends who play and are of varying ranks. I've watched their gameplay on streams and vids and the amount of hardcore off-the-hook tunneling is quite frankly...off-the-hook. In ranks 6-20 you might get 1 of 4 matches that is not a hardcore, ignore all other players, tunnel. Mileage may vary, but I find it hard to ignore their frustrations when I'm watching a rank 16 get tunneled out of a game in less than 2 minutes by a fully decked out P3 Billy who is rank 15, but handles Billy like a red rank. I've even seen many post game chats where the killer flat out admits he loves annoying players, regardless if they are lower rank than he should be.

The game feeds, allows, and even outright encourages the toxic behavior in game with how the perks, abilities, and items are set up. The only place they don't let you be toxic is when you might call someone a name on these forums. Here, they want to pretend to have a level of civility, which is a joke, but in game, be as much of a jerk as you want to be.

They hurt their own game with this crap. That is why I think an overhaul of Custom Game would do wonders for the player base. It would be a rare situation where it would improve the game immensely while also being a great opportunity for a cash grab. lol

EDIT: @Deadeye This game should have peak numbers well near 200k. It does not because retention is not good. It is not good due to the toxicity. The developers of this game have a low bar when it comes to their goals. I think many other teams would have this game roaring with players.

    This is understandable.

But I bet even you saw them intermittently trying to progress the game (even if it took a long time), not just outright hiding and not even attempting to get to the gens?

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1470548#Comment_1470548

Just because there is the functionality to do it doesn't mean it is intended gameplay.

The automobile is designed to transport you from location A to location B. Driving to and from said locations is legal. Speeding is not legal, punishable by fine or incarceration. The car's design includes being able to go fast, faster than most speed limits imposed. That doesn't make it ok to drive too fast when there are rules for how fast you should drive in every location (even on the Autobahn in select areas).

This game's design does not include a timer on the match, but it is not intended gameplay for players to intentionally hold the game hostage, and even the devs say is a punishable offense.

Most definitely. There is a huge difference in my example and players just bugging out.

  • Report it and let the Devs sort it out. That is the danger of a 3 gen strat. It works when they don't pay attention, but you risk a prolonged game with immersed players. In some, not all cases you get players who legitimately are trying to figure out how to get to the gens, but are hiding in the meantime. In others, you get players who figure they will punish you by hiding and trying to get you to DC.

3-Gen strat with caution. No matter what, even with honest players, you will be looking at a very very long match. I had a group 3-gen vs my Trapper recently. It was an overall accident by them. I was not playing that strategy, but it just ended up that way. I was dreading the next thirty minutes of cat and mouse. I killed two, and two got out with a key they found. I was so relieved, honestly relieved that it was over. They did not try to hold the game hostage, but what could they really do? 3 Gens close together riddled with traps all over. I mean these gens were close. One in the killer shack, and one 2 seconds outside on either side. Absolutely nuts! That may be the only time I've ever been grateful for keys as a killer. lol

  • @Grossman said:

Hello. Imagine, you are a killer with only perks that are available at the beginning of the game. You have no Ruin, no Corrupt, no BBQ, no Enduing + SF. I know that perks are unbelievably important. Especially at high ranks. It seems to me that I need luck with survivors to rank up. I know how to play killers. What to do to get points to emblems. But usually, I get destroyed by those kangaroos. And if I have a good intense game I usually miss one point to rank up pip. It's kinda frustrating :-(.

If you are a new killer, you don't want to rank up yet. Take your time. Build up a library of perks. Learn the ins and outs of being a good killer. Try to identify bad habits, and survivor norms. Learn to mind game. Don't be in a hurry to get to those red ranks. First of all, rank means nothing. There are horrible killers and survivors at red ranks because it is way too easy to get there. They get there, get owned and cry about the game balance (which does have issues, but not the ones they cry about). Rank is not a symbol of pride in this game. I am mediocre at best. I struggle on many maps due to colorblindness and I can't see scratch marks or blood unless I'm on indoor maps where I see a big black blob on the ground. If you are hiding in corn, I will not see you. I might hear you and swing blindly just to get lucky, but I won't see you. I don't even know who this Claudette character people speak of is...never seen her (j/k). I hang between ranks 1-3 pretty steadily. Not because I'm great, but because it's not that hard. It's even easier as survivor. I'm pretty sure we could teach a Chimp to play and it would be a rank 3 survivor within a few weeks.

So, please, don't let rank be a goal. Get good, and I don't mean that in an insulting way. Learn, grow, experiment with style and powers. Get confident, then worry about pushing rank. When you are new, it may not seem like this because you are busy getting run over by traffic everywhere. But you will see what I mean soon enough.

I find the worst maps for trapper are The Game because there is no tall grass. Every trap is out in the open.

Indoor maps are rough on Trapper. The Game, Lery's (hit or miss based on lighting and where the loops are), most of the Underground Lab. The traps stick out and are harder to be tricky with. The Game is by far the worst. I hate the new map because aside from being colorblind and that map being one blurred pallet of color that gives me a migraine, it is a serious pain to get recover traps around the map. Who thought of this thing? It's an amazing piece of art, but functionally asinine. Between the migraine issue and the convoluted task of having to traverse that inane map to find traps, I usually just wander around in the courtyard until the match is over. Not worth the headache, literally.

Well, I think best would be, if Survivors would be able to sort 1-10 killer perks out and killers 1-10 survivor perks in such a mode.

Otherwise I can already yet see threads about "couldn't choose NOED, but they all had DS and that after they said, they wouldn't use it!!!".

Besides that, sounds like a great idea :).

Simple solution is making the settings visible to anyone in the game's lobby. So you can see that DS and NOED are both turned "off". Once ready is hit, you can't change the rules unless everyone hits "unready". Simple fix.

  • @gatsby said:

The majority of mid-low rank Survivors rely on stealth and perks like Sprint Burst, Decisive, Urban Evasion, Spine Chill and/or Self-Care. They DO NOT want the Killer to chase them and are willing to waste tons of their time avoiding them. Its just true. I can usually tell within the first two minutes what ranks people are just based on their playstyle. Survivors that aren't objective focused with their time management aren't very good and unfortunately that's A LOT of people.

It shouldn't matter a ton if the Killer will chase you. Avoiding gens, spending tons of time trying to heal and letting people hit struggle phase is more detrimental than ANYTHING the Killer could do to you. It also just builds bad habits that are hard to break

The same can be said of killers. Many of them end up here on the forums complaining about how powerful survivors are in the red ranks. Why? Because they leveled up easily through the ranks using lazy tactics like tunneling/camping and NOED only to get a dose of ice water in their face when they cross that threshold from rank 5-20 to rank 1-4. I'd even say it is more in rank 1-3. This game is filled with boosted players on both sides. It is what it is.

  • @Anara said:

English is not my first language it's maybe why I though you was saying that, but anyway don't worry, if you had say that I wasnt offended.

Back to the subject ; I think a competitive mode could be the solution. You can't pkay in competitive mode until you are devotion 1 maybe?

The old players who wants hard games can go in this mode, with a real rank system, and the new players go in the normal mode.

Like.. Many games did that and it works

I think the best thing they could do is truly open up 'Custom Game' mode. Allow players to make modifications in that mode. Limit perks, or alter gen speeds, penalize camping or perhaps create different game modes like 2 v 8 or whatever they want. Give some serious creative freedom there. Create a lobby for Custom Games and let players join games they see fit to join. If I am running a game where the killer gets penalized for staying near the hook, and gen times are slowed down, it is up to other players as to whether they want to join that. Get rid of the lack of BP in Custom Game. Let them earn BP and spend it on the character. Custom Game characters cannot be used in ranked matches. But, ranked characters can be copied over to Custom Games one time.

By doing this, you don't really split the player base by much, and you eliminate people's complaints about camping, tunneling, NOED, Adrenaline, DS, etc. If you don't like those things, start a match in Custom Game that limits their use. If you play in ranked play, STFU and play. By having a lobby in Custom Game, you allow people to chat, maybe break off into third party chat, etc and meet other players that want to play the style of game they enjoy.

There is money to be made in this as well. Pay a monthly fee for a private chat room where you can invite like-minded players in to discuss the setup for a game. Perhaps have some advanced modifications available for purchase. Maybe charge a one-time fee to even access Custom Game lobby. That is the only way to access the modified game modes. And, this works well for research and development. If BHVR sees that an abundance of players seem to like playing with a certain custom modification, they can build on that for future release. Even game modes can be included later.

Honestly, it's a win/win. It eliminates the legitimate ability to complain about certain aspects of the game, like perk use. If you don't like the perks, start a game without their use.

I think this would attract lots of new players and be a great tool for BHVR to use. I would be willing to pay a reasonable one-time fee for such an expansion as I imagine it would be costly to do. $10-15 would be ideal, but perhaps a bit more.

  • Trapper is a great killer. He's arguably the most psychological killer in the game, except maybe Hag. Setting traps is all about anticipation and learning from the past and the current group of survivors. You can't be obvious with your traps, or you can act obvious while laying a trap...pun intended. I'll elaborate more in a sec.

Weakness: Trapper's biggest weakness is the gawd awful idea of giving him only one trap base kid and making traverse to dead zones all over the map to get more. You find yourself having to walk the map several times just to set up an area, by then you've lost pressure. The cure? I have more bags than you can count. I hunt bags over all ese in the bloodweb. I've foregone getting perks on a bloodweb filled with bags. (I'm an addict and I may need help!)

Early detection: Never, never over-commit to a survivor found early. If you can get a good pallet or two broken and a swift whack on the butt, let them go. Especially if they wander near a cluster of traps you can pick up. Trapper needs time to prepare, and you can't waste time in a long chase early. If you do, you lose, period.

Being sneaky: Everyone expects the trap at the killer shack window, so give em that trap, but put it further away, or place another in the likely path they'll take to get to the trap. Another trick is that people expect the trap at the pallet, but if you put it at a corner they will likely hug tight while looping that pallet, you are more likely to catch them. People rarely expect a trap behind the tree next to that gen they will most definitely work on. Think of where they will move if you approach the area. You can learn that by playing survivor and watching your teammates.

Trapper is fun, but has some huge drawbacks. Good groups can exploit those drawbacks in big ways leaving you to your wits and limited weapons.

If only the developers would help him with his limited trap issue. Imagine starting the game with 2 traps, and being able to retrieve limited numbers of traps from lockers instead of having to travel across the map for those 3 traps in a dead zone. Yeah.....that would be so nice.

  • I just want to know if the killer bot is going to teabag or point at the pallet.

I can understand that, but I dont really play easy games and never expected this to be easy. When I purchased this game, I was playing PUBG and Darkest Dungeon. I never expcted this to be some easy game, its sold as a 4v1 which by definition = competitive PVP. I was turned off heavily by the looting in PUBG, and liked that there was no looting and shooting in DbD,.... (before Huntress was added) having to loot every match was why I stopped playing PUBG and now have over 1700 hours in this game.

But I guess if people assume things it could be misinterpreted, but I always watch a streamer play a game before I buy them after I foudn twitch so theres no misleading idea of what the game is like

I love Darkest Dungeon. Fun game. For me, a challenge is great. I love competition. But, I am also an old school sportsman. I believe in respecting the game, respecting my opponent, but winning. There is very, very, very little of that in this generation of players. Many of them grew up as keyboard warriors and never learned empathy or consequences for words and actions. That's why simple words hurt them so much now. Sad, sad state of affairs. See my post above though - I truly think this game has so much potential and could be lots of fun.

I agree but I'm not a tryharder, I was in the past, when I had more time to play, now I'm a casual player because I'm older. But I know that I can't be good with few hours, it's the same in every game, time = skill

I hope you did not think I was implying that you, specifically, were a tryharder. That was not the intention.

I agree, the game takes time to improve, but that is harder and harder with the increase in toxic playstyles and the 1k+ hour players trying to feed on new players. This game should be swarmed with players because the base concept of it is an absolute blast. I can honestly say that there are few games more fun when one of the following occurs:

    1. A really good killer keeps me and the other survivors off-balance and on the run during a match. He seems to always pop up where we are, mind games well, and ultimately destroys all or most of us. The match was tense, filled with engagement with the killer and likely has plenty of BP for all
    2. A silly killer is meme'ing. I've seen some absolutely hilarious killers toy around in this game. Had a GF who was total creeper and could come out of nowhere. We had "Drive-Thru" Bubba who loved to stand at windows and act stupid. Jiggly clown who would dance around when he downed someone. Superstitious Billy was my favorite though. He would not cross through doorways unless one of us walked him through it, then he'd resume chase. My God, it was the funniest match I've ever had. We refused to leave at the end, even though he was trying to let us go. Greedy Hag was fun too. Ran Franklin's and when she knocked something out of your hand, she defended it with a vengeance. We eventually stopped doing gens and focused on getting the map off the ground. She 4k'd, but it was so much fun!
    3. A group of survivors meme'ing around. 4 DK's who all brought Healing Kits. They kept trading the healing kits back and forth. We half-heartedly played, but when I'd get them cornered, they'd offer their healing kid. The Baby David was given hatch.
    4. A good group of survivors that make me step up my game without getting all toxic. I had one of those last night with my Freddy match. It was a lot of fun and we actually had great conversation afterwards (I know, hard to believe).

Unfortunately, these are maybe 1 in 25 or 1 in 30 match scenarios. Many matches are with unimaginative hardcore players who seem to think their entire life depends on crushing their enemies, seeing them driven before them, and hearing the lamentation of the women.

Rare? Every camping bubba ive met runs noed because of that scenario lol. Unless you rarely deal with campers so thats why your saying that. Which i do myself but yeah otz literally made a noed camping bubba stream where he got solid 4ks the whole time. It was pretty atrocious and i hope you guys have a plan for that. Also totem counter on detectives hunch would solve the 1st problem buffing solo.

    This, exactly.

One of the two main reasons I quit being a survivor main was the insane amount of tunneling/camping killers running NOED. Do the gens and leave, only to get one or two more fed to the mouth breather playing killer at that moment. It was very boring, always led to crap BP whether you got out or not, and fed overall bad behavior. The tunneling and camping has taken over killer play from rank 20 to rank 6. You can easily rank into red ranks being a braindead mouth breather tunneling hardcore in every match. Why? NOED. If you stop to cleanse, you give the killer 1-2 more kills. If you don't, you give the killer 1-2 more kills.

Easy fix that really helps solo players more than SWF, and in reality, helps killer players get better (I could go into the lesson I learned about NOED as a crutch when I started playing killer, but I'll save it for now).

    1. Totem counter attached to Detective's Hunch or Small Game: As a player who favors running Trapper and Pig over all other roles, I have no problem with a totem counter. Why? The more time you are cleansing totems, the more time you are not on a gen. I'll take every second I can get.
    2. Make NOED require a pre-requisite to activate - but guarantee it activates regardless of totems remaining. Or, remove it as a totem, give it a pre-req and have it be a 60 second burst at the end of the game. How would this work?
    • NOED does not spawn unless you get x number of hooks, or hook each survivor once. Period. You have to spread it around. This may be a bit controversial and could hose over killers where someone DCs or dies by other means (RBT).
    • NOED is on a timer. For each hook you achieved during the match, NOED lasts 45 seconds plus 30 seconds per hook. The more you hooked, the longer it lasts. If you gain 7 hooks in the match, it is permanent until destroyed.
    • NOED is no longer a totem, it is a 60 second end-game burst.
    • NOED is no longer a totem, it is 45 seconds, plus 20 seconds per stack (stacks are gained for each hook).
    • NOED is still a totem, but if the killer did not achieve 5 hooks during the match, the totem's aura can be seen by all survivors on the map.

For those who say it would be too limited in the end, why waste the perk slot, so are several other survivor perks. Hope is extremely limited, yet still used. NOED, in any of these above forms, would still be a great perk for end-game builds. It would not be removed from any of my EG perk builds.

Look, I don't really care about NOED. In it's base form, it is a good perk. I do hate seeing it abused by lazy players who get rewarded for crap efforts. It punishes players already being punished by a lazy, toxic killer. Sorry, but hardcore camping/tunneling from the start is lazy and toxic. It is also insanely boring! So, if it gets nerfed, you can thank these types of players that are often defended on these forums. Just like toxic survivors earned a healing nerf, in no small part due to self-caring at pallets, lazy killers are pushing for a NOED nerf.

Where is this game marketed as casual? I just looked over the steam page and it is sold as a "team based survival horror PVP game"

not one word about it being casual. Casual games are games like Golf With Friends, this game is not casual in any way or definition

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casual_game

    Compare to https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Casual/

I'm referring to how it is perceived by many new players when they first buy the game. It is not seen as a hardcore game. There are several people who join this game thinking it is something it is not. This game is not marketed as a hardcore pvp game. We can get into semantics or you can just talk to new players. I know when I joined the game it was due to a link from a site promoting "party horror games to play with friends". Yeah, not exactly the right description for it.

  • No, it is not a bad perk.

Can it form a bad habit? Yes. I leaned on it heavily when I first started playing killer. I formed a lot of bad habits as a killer because I knew I'd get some easy hooks once NOED popped. I had a great end-game chat with a seasoned killer who played survivor vs me one day and he advised me to drop NOED unless it was part of an end-game build or overall build. It explained why. So, I tossed the crutch down, got my teeth kicked in a few times, but learned and got better. Now, I only use it as part of specific builds.

So no, not a bad perk. But it can become a crutch that limits your ability to learn how to truly get good at killer.

The problem is not the game, but the players nowadays, everybody wants to be good without hours of playing.

When I started dbd it was late 2018, the game wasn't new, I played with good players and I was with my Claudette with only one perk. Now I'm red ranks. I started by hiding in lockers, now I know how to loop.

The new matchmaking is coming soon, but I can guaranteer you that new players still won't stay. Some of them will, the one who loves to train and be better players, but 3/4 of them, the ones who just cares about winning (like the new generation of gamers) will not stay.

The problem is : the new generation of gamers.

My main point of contention is with your statement that the problem is with the new generation of gamers. As I said in my post, I think the main problems are in game design and how the game is advertised. The game attracts horror fans and sells itself in many ways as a fun, jump-scare, almost casual party game but turns out to be a hardcore toxic fight-fest.

The problem is with the current generation of gamers that can't take a step back and say, hey, these guys I'm facing are obviously not too good, I'll take the foot off the pedal and try to have some fun here. There is zero, I mean zero, sportsmanship in this current generation of gamer. The old-school guys still remember what it was like to act like an oppressive arse while playing a game in front of another person. It often ended with a fat lip and no friends. They tend to play games with those lessons in mind. This current generation grew up behind a monitor and have no empathy or concept of casual gameplay.

Don't blame people for wanting a more laidback experience in a game that comes off as a fun jump-scare party game. This is not Call of Duty. If someone goes into Call of Duty expecting casual and fun gameplay, they are delusional.

  • The problem goes beyond that. Many who join this game do so thinking this is what it is branded as, somewhat of a party game with jump scares and fun. It has a casual feel when you are looking at the description. I hear this from a lot of new players. When you get into the game, it is very toxic, and has hardcore players that want to win at all costs. They have zero interest in the party/fun atmosphere. The game mechanics feed into the toxicity. I mean look at the perks and powers. They feed the idea of camping, tunneling, looping, hook swarming (looking at you Sabo), etc. It nourishes every bad element in a person so the gameplay becomes far from fun, and deep into the toxic arena.

If you are a horror fan and see DbD advertised, you see a game that looks like it would be a blast! With killers popping out of nowhere and you running scared while trying to work on gens in a chaotic effort to escape. You log in and you face a 3k hour Billy who tunnels your arse out of the game in less then 2 minutes. WTH was that?! There was nothing scary about that. It was just frustrating. I did not even get to play. Let me try that one more time. Here comes that Bubba that player that purposely tries to face low rank players so he can face camp them. Wait, he put me on the hook but he is standing here and nobody can get me. That was boring! Ok, ok, I'll try killer. First up - a group of newbie solo players. I got a 3k, that was fun! Next match, hit squad SWF that chased the killer with flashlights and sabo boxes all match. That was the most frustrating thing that player ever experienced in a game! What was that? I thought the killer was supposed to be scary, I ran scared from them the whole match! (All references to "I" are the hypothetical new player.)

Yeah, this game has/had promise out the wazoo. The player base should be hundreds of thousands, but the management and enforcement in the game is an absolute joke. They've let the game become this weird red-headed stepchild of a horror game filled with frustrated players that can feel there is something better here, but just can't seem to get to it.

BHVR just needs to step up their game and do this right. Revamp if need be, but get some developers that understand cause and effect. Ones that can look at a new perk/power and anticipate how it will synergize with others in the game, or how it might be exploited to cause high levels of frustration (looking at MoM's original release there).

Get this game where it needs to be.

  • Those saying a good Slinger is better than a good Huntress are completely forgetting things like range, addons and perk synergy. Huntress is way stronger and extremely oppressive. She has a better map-wide presence due to the range of her hatchets and those hitboxes. Slinger is easy to dodge, huntress....we all know about the hitboxes.

The only advantage Slinger has is that tiny TR, but with SC, that does not matter. I run into at least one SC user in every map, sometimes more.

I'll face good Slingers all day long as survivor and do fine, good Huntress with those snipe hits....forget about it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention how slow Slinger's mechanics are. He hits, has to reel in his target. Hits them, reel in his chain to reload and do it all over again. Or, he hits them in melee and still has to shoot, reel, reel again, pick up, hook. As opposed to throw, hit, wind up (way shorter than reel) throw again, hit, pick up, hook, throw, hit again. She can literally drop 2 people before thinking about reloading. Much more efficient.

  • If you are that upset, it's time to walk away and do something else. I stopped playing for months and have enjoyed the game much more with a whole new approach now.

In short; Stop it, get some help.

I think the point is to never stop never stopping. 😉 If we keep promoting unity and(gently) call out those who seek to segregate the community, slowly but surely we'll see some progress.

Dude, you totally just pulled off an Afternoon Special Ending, or one of the 80's cartoons where Hawk comes out to tell us what the message of the episode was. Fantastic! Good job! I'm totally flashing back to Orco coming out at the end of the He-Man episode and telling me that if we just keep standing for unity, we might just win one day. lol

    Good luck out there.

  • The reason you struggle now is because you never learned to play properly. So many killers progress in ranks by tunneling because the quality of players between purple and red is very different. So these guys tunnel all the way to rank 4 or so then cry because survivor is too strong.

No, you never learned how to pressure gens, adapt, play chess on the field. You are still playing checkers and getting smoked.

I had a great match today where I had to get creative and anticipate where survivors might go when they think I'm on the other side. So (Freddy) I teleported to an out of the way gen figuring that is where they would go to heal. Set two dream pallets and here they come. They thought I was coming from the other direction. Downed all three quick because of surprise. I learned that from the many butt whoopings I got on the way up the food chain.

I lost one gen to score three hooks, 2 of which were death hooks.

After the match two said that I completely rattled them with that move and they fell for the stoopid dream pallets because of it.

Learn to play better, mix tunneling in as a tool when needed, but not as the only one.

    And I hate Oreos...

    Ohh and I'm not a Child. I'm 7 1/2 years old, close to be a adult ;)

Triggered is the wrong word. Humored is more like it. There are a thousand posts on here like yours, usually from some attention-seeking person who needs an ego stroke. Like most of the others on this forum, I main killer as well. I just don't have the need to be validated in my play style like you do.

  • *look around for the memo that today is "Post Something Obvious Day"

Is there something in the water today? Everyone is posting obvious things like, the forums are killer biased; the community is toxic; @Blueberry smells like rainbows...wait....that last one seems off.

Can we get a new post from someone about Tunneling being Toxic, or SWF being too strong? That would be great.

You have obviously been hanging around that whole Mick Jagger on the Lightning Unicorn thingy (see above post). There is whining, crying, name calling, pessimism, complaining, finger pointing, condescension, etc, etc, but very little fairness. I do appreciate your upbeat tone though and hope it rubs off on others. Just don't read too much on these forums or you'll become a grumpy old Pig like me. lol

  • Against average survivors, sure. It is a huge problem in the game design and the number one reason this game will never grow to its full potential. It pushes people away from the game. Nobody, and I mean nobody wants to get tunneled out of the game in 5 of 7 matches. Every time I load up survivor, I see massive tunneling. It is seriously pathetic.

The problem is this, it is part of why so many killers cry about gen rushing and survivor power role in the game. They get used to tunneling non-stop all the way to the red ranks. Then, they start meeting those skilled players that don't get downed so easy. The ones that know how to focus on the gens, avoid that tunnel and get the job done. They whoop a killer who has not developed the skill of pressuring the map. So here you have a red rank killer who thinks they are top tier who gets owned constantly by better survivors and they blame the game more than they should.

Is that to say the game is not out of balance with skilled SWF groups having too much strength? No, I would absolutely agree that there is a huge balance issue with those groups. As a killer who learned to pressure the map, push gens, and try to keep a team guessing, I can often hold my own on those groups. But I know many killers who are beside themselves with frustration because they think they are great due to being red rank, but they are still trying to tunnel like a mid-rank killer and that crap does not work on good groups.

So, is it the most efficient? Sure, against lower skilled players. Is it the best? No, not by a long shot. It is actually the dumbest way to face those strong groups. But, to each their own. I always say that if you are going to camp and tunnel, STFU about gen rush and survivors being upset. Just like if you are going to play a SWF bully group, STFU about being camped/tunneled.

This game's design is at issue here. It is too easy to tunnel the survivor off the hook, thus creating high levels of frustration for players, especially casual ones. It is too easy to bully the killer, who all are supposed to fear, with a skilled group. Credit BHVR on this though. It is not easy to make a game where the power role is both massively oppressive enough to impact player enjoyment, and so weak that they get bullied. Confusing!!!

  • Yes, and rain is wet. Everyone here knows this already.

A few of us hold out hope that one day we will stop being an Us v Them community and try to make strides in improving the game as a whole, but it's more likely that Mick Jagger will appear in my front yard riding a Unicorn made of Lightning....which would be really odd. Not even sure where that came from. Maybe I played Cards Against Humanity too much?

  • Doc - He has long been the master of the 3 gen scenario.

I'd put Slinger in there as well. He can easily cover 3 gens and hit you from outside his TR. On an open map, that is deadly.

I had a normal game with one person who had a Key (I will call him Mr. Key), he played very stealth and did not so much in this game. I end the game very fast because they did all die fast, the chases end very quickly. But I noticed my fourth bbq stack is still missing so I downed the rank 15 and sluged him (I'm sorry but I relly want my 4 Stacks). And I searched Mr. Key and found him after some minutes I downed him and unfortunately the rank 15 died in the meantime so I nod my had to Mr. Key and let him on the floor for a minute. I hooked him and than this happend...

So what do you think of this... and btw spirit is very good :D

I think the next one I buy is deathslinger >:D

I think there is a cookie in the jar for you somewhere. Players get upset. Whoopie. Some players play toxic styles, like swarming the killer or camping/tunneling. Whoopie. I want to know what you guys think about comms, about people playing while communicating with each other.

Were comms intented in the game ? Are they fair ?

If they're not intented why make some perks only worth running if you're coordinated (so on comms) ? I can list for example Soul guard, BT, Unbreakable. Why am i saying that they are worth running only when you're coordinated ? Well soul guard grants you invincibility for 8 seconds, if you're playing solo, you will almost never will get use of it, but if you are playing with someone, you can coordinate a good timed save while also bodyblocking the killer from hitting your friend.

BT, same, don't worth running in solo, because there're always some dumb players to farm the hooked person without BT. When playing with friends, everybody know who will go to the save, the survivor with BT.

Unbreakable will do more harm than good if you're in solo Q, nonody knows you can get yourself up, so they will waste time running around the map the heal you.

Comms solve this aspect of the game, making it more enjoyable, but they also give another advantage, it gives you free perks like bond, kindred, empathy, alert, aftercare, and many others.

    1. If Comms were not intended in the game, the developers were raised under a rock. People are on comms playing everything. Heck, you can even get on comms to play online solitaire! Solitaire is a one-person game!! Seriously, there is zero chance the developers did not sit there at some point and say, "You know, people may jump on Discord, or their phones or some other communication media and talk while playing survivor." If they did not, you are looking at the most incompetent development team since Wile-E-Coyote's research and development department.
    2. Comms are strong, but to be expected. If you don't anticipate a team communicating while playing killer, that is your own mistake. I am always considering the likelihood they are talking. If one of them hit a trap, I make sure to move it, or leave it and place one nearby as a trick. If I hear a gen being worked while I'm in a chase, I let them break LoS and quickly dip to the gen to throw them off. Mess the faith in their comms up some. Make them nervous.
    3. I do not, in any way, want to see comms built into the game. The last thing I want as a killer or survivor is to hear a 10 year old going off in the game. Or, for that matter, a 20 year old with a 10 year old's mental capacity going off. Nope, post game chat has that covered. I would like to see the OPTION for the killer to converse with the survivors before the game. If you don't want to, so be it, if you enjoy chatting and trying to make the atmosphere less angry/frustrating, then go for it. Entirely voluntary. Some might say, "That will encourage farming." Umm, no more than me walking up to a survivor pointing at a gen and then pointing at me. If I want to farm, I nod yes. If I don't, I smack them. Same goes as survivor, the killer smacks the gen and nods yes. If I want to farm, I respond, if not, I run off.

By that logic, Pig and Pig with DLC clothing is a completely different character because it looks different and the weapon has a different sound effect.

You may like to play with 5 or 6 characters. That's fine. Many other players however like to play with all of them. You are still, willingly, not playing a good chunk of the killer role. Some people like playing all of the cast, and to keep up with all of the cast, have to level them all to max to get the most out of them. Someone who likes to play whether it be 20 killers, 16 killers, or even just 10 of them, is not going to just level 5 or 6 characters like you do.

Survivors do not handle differently. That's like saying the blue Z28 Camaro handles differently than the red Z28 Camaro, simply because they are different colors.

All survivors have the same stats. They all have the same movement pattern, they all have the same pill box size. They all have the same controls. They all interact with the game world the same way as each other. The only difference is how they sound and how they look. That's it. They're skins. The only differences between each of the survivors are purely cosmetic. "Size" doesn't make them play or perform differently. The only issue with sounds is BHVR's inability to fix sounds for the past few years and nothing more. It's no more intentional than survivors not making noises when downed on the ground, injured, falling noises, lack of screaming, and having silent footsteps, while generators make zero noises when being half completed or even in the midst of being repaired.

Try hiding behind a tree with Jeff as opposed to doing it with Feng and come talk to me after that. I'll spot a Jeff or a Jake long before a Feng or Meg just due to size and how much they stick out from things. You completely ignored the fact that I stated killers are absolutely functionally different where as survivors have slight differences.

It still comes down to choice as far as what killers you WANT to max out. I've killer for 3 years and stick to a handful, you may have been killer for less time and want them all. It's a choice, nothing more.

The best part is that none of it matters in this debate. You are talking apples to oranges. Survivors should get more BP for objective driven achievements. DbD awards less for completing objectives than for looping a killer. It hurts absolutely nobody to up the BP rewards for survivor. No way someone should play a match, with a crappy killer who only focused on killing one target, finish gens and escape with crap BP. Survivor role fully depends on an engaging killer in order to get good BP.
