Eh, not the first time the devs are giving us only a killer. It's boring for survivors.
How is it boring? It's literally new content for Survivors. Survivors are just skins and more often then not the perks aren't anything special.

in my opinion devs should just told comminity that lack of survivors is a licence issue( and no i dont mean any detal or something like that)
they should always try to get content for boths sides, i know one think killer q tieams will be match longer for a while sicne survivors has nothing to test out this "chapter"
A new killer IS content for both sides. Besides, more often then not the Survivor perks are underwhelming and are not used more then once, if that.

That's the same thing with the T-Virus. They're covered in blue but they're not infected.
Yeah but you can still get rid of it as long as there's shots left.

I know, but is disgusting to face immersed teams, they hide as soon as they start hearing the heartbeats and you feel stupid roaming around the map spending two minuted to find someone, in addition they frequently hide when there are only two remainin to wain you to kill the other anf search the hatch which sometimesends up being an insanely long matche.
I know that is a problem of the game design but we can do our part as player to avoid that kind of unfun situations, me for example, I never tunnel and camp except in some situations.
You're generalizing a whole category of people into one playstyle. Sure some immersed players do everything you mentioned, but some don't and actually know the right time to help their team and come out of hiding.
I play immersed/stealthy (except I wear whatever as long as I think it looks cute). I try to avoid the killer at all costs, except I know when to come out and help my team when it calls for it. I'm not gonna be hiding in the corner of the map all game. I'm usually the gen jocky, but if my teammates need help, I'm there.

The Devs could've added it but made it optional. Many games have optional blood effects. An example off the top of my head is For honor.
Oh I want the blood. I think it's cool. I just want it to dissappear when I'm healthy and not stay there the whole match.
That's how Friday the 13th was.
When you were injured you were bloody and then it disappeared when you healed yourself.

I play on the orginal Xbox and DBD has crashed for me maybe 5 times in the 3 years I've been playing it.

I hated how the blood didn't dissappear when you healed yourself though. I didn't buy my favorite outfit for it to be covered in blood 80% of the match.

I do it because I believe one day they'll give a a good reason to prestige characters & by that point I'll already have most if it completed.
I don't think they ever will. The devs have already said Prestige is only in the game to give the hard-core players something to work towards, it isn't meant to actually be used to gain a big benefit.

Sorry I don't have an answer yet I'm afraid, as soon as I do I will rely and also make things clearer on the FAQ.
Can you confirm if it would still be possible to give Jonathan his own voice? Not sure if that would affect the license agreement or if adding a different voice to a licensed character does not require permission from the license holders.

The major patch is always the chapter, rather than the DLC in and of itself, but usually the DLC is named as such for easier means.
There is a leak from a good source suggesting that we're getting a non-licensed paragraph in the midchapter anyway, so it'll end up evening out.
I would not consider releasing DLC with just one character a major patch. A major match to me would be a killer, at least one Survivor, and a map (or a map update).
So it made sense when they called their smaller DLCs a paragraph rather then a full Chapter. The time of release of said DLC shouldn't decide what the DLC is called.
-
@Jasix said:
Doesn't matter to me what the updates are called.
I understand why it is just a killer - licensing. I am pretty sure part of the deal for Cenobite/Pinhead was that he release by himself since there is no licensed survivor being released with him. Waiting 6 weeks for an original survivor is fine with me - means less of a rush to get all of Cenobite's perks as well as the survivor perks.
People saying "the expectation is...." that is a self-imposed expectation and not one that BHVR has ever said they would stick to.
Whatever happened to wishing for less content so they could work on game health... ever stop to think that by releasing JUST a killer that is also allowing them to work on other issues behind the scenes? I swear - it doesn't matter what BHVR does - people will always complain on these forums.
Not sure if you're referring to me or just some of the comments on this thread, but I'm not complaining, I just want them to call it a paragraph or admit they don't use that term anymore.
DLCs shouldn't be named based upon when they release but rather what is contained within them. At least that's my opinion and it makes more sense.
-
@Alphasoul05 said:
3 months and all the content you get in a chapter amounting to one killer and 3 perks, and pretty much nothing else is absolutely pathetic regardless of what you want to call it.
I kind of agree. Even if they couldn't get the rights to a licensed map or survivor, an orginal would be just fine.
Although they did say they were gonna slow down on doing maps since they're updating current ones (even though we didn't get any more updated ones this patch).
And supposedly we're getting a new survivor for the mid chapter so there's that.

The Devs have said before a Chapter doesn't have to just be a Killer, Survivor and map. It can be just one killer, one survivor or a Killer and Two Survivors or Two Killers and a Survivor. Nothing is set in stone, a Chapter can even be just a map if they wanted to
I understand that they have that standpoint now but they didn't used to and I wonder why they changed their minds all of a sudden.

But considering how the developers no longer use the term "Paragraph" I don't see why they'd suddenly bring it back for Pinhead?
As can be seen below, Left Behind is unofficially renamed Chapter 3.5 to fit in with Leatherface and Ash vs Evil Dead.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2LONU7U7351M/image.png
Leatherface being Chapter 5.5 after having been renamed.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/6KXG3CWTCBPX/image.png
And Ash Vs Evil Dead having always been known as Chapter 11.5, since this was released after the decision was made.
I'm just curious as to why they got rid of it to begin with. Unless they think it could have hurt their marketing to call it a Paragraph.
I couldn't imagine that anyone would get mad if they didn't call it a chapter.
I just think from a literal standpoint, a chapter is larger and obviously contains more contents then that of a paragraph. So it made sense to market those smaller DLCs as such. I'm just confused as to why they abandoned that terminology.
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:
Actually, that's not quite true. A Paragraph is released between the regular chapter schedule (ie. Ash vs Evil Dead Paragraph was released between Demise of the Faithful Chapter and Ghost Face Chapter). Ghost Face was released on the regular chapter schedule, and so is called a Chapter, and it is the same case with Pinhead.
But that's basing the terminology of those DLCs solely on the time they released and not what is contained within them. Which is rather silly in my opinion. I'm sure none of us would care if this was called a paragraph, despite the fact that it is released normally when a "chapter" is.

Only full outfits are offered a discount. That's how it's always been.

Usually always 3 weeks unless a delay takes place.
The devs/mods like to remain oblivious to the fact that a time frame of 3 weeks is the general consensus, but it is not set in stone of course.

It's not just up to her though. Maybe she's just following because she enjoys Hellraiser.
Maybe the license holders actually said no themselves for whatever reason.

There is some belief that the survivor is coming as a separate paragraph somewhat later based on data mining. SO we're still wait and see on this point.
On the topic of The Cenobite, looks good and the powers look fun. The slow down perks look rough for survivors, to me. The smarter people will do the analysis there.
I think maybe that boon totems will come with this next survivor who might very well be your girl.
According to leaks, the lone survivor is original.

Identity V thrives on time-limited licensed content and many other games do. Dead by Daylight is successful on its own so using the same marketing won't hurt them at all if not give them more income. There are dozens of people who will be forced to quickly decide to put money in the game if their favorite character won't be available soon. You can't deny time limitation works stupidly well, there are titles that I won't name but have achieved massive income due to that.
This I will agree with. People are more inclined to buy something if they know it will never be obtainable again.
I myself am purposely not buying a Perfumer skin I like at the moment because I know it will remain in the shop forever, unlike the limited skins.
As you mentioned, other games do this as well and are successful. But, games do not NEED to do this to be successful. And I believe games can thrive just as much without limited content as well.

But it never happened until now. I'm sure you can understand the difference between something having the potential to occur and something actually occurring.
Idk why people on the board are getting so oddly defensive over anyone being bummed or nervous about the license being lost. It's a natural reaction to something like this.
Bummed I understand, nervous I don't.
Why does this make you or anyone nervous? Netflix is in no way connected to any other license this game holds.
This was not BHVR'S decision, so I don't see a reason to be any more nervous because of this happening. This isn't a domino affect.

Doesn't make me feel any more secure though.
Then I hope you've felt that the whole time you've been playing DBD. Because this could have happened at any time to any license.
-
Unless they want to go back on their word about having no exclusives then they're not going to do it.
This was Netflix, not BHVR. I think it absolutely crushes them that this content has to be removed. I definitely don't see this happening in the future.
Other games do it yes, Identify V has limited crossovers all the time. But BHVR is different. I just can't imagine that this is a path they want to take in the future, regardless of profit.

Its actually good practice.
Dbd could of been going under An lawsute or something if it was permanent.
Having it agreed upon for 2 year period makes it safer to end a contract with a company. Or if the company not being satisfied they can back out without much legal dispute
Best example of this if freddy issue the original person died.
Dose the rights go to the family of the creator or the company that helps produce it.
Having that 2 year contract would allow the producers continue their work. While allowing the family to monitor the results
A 2 year contract isn't permanent.
-
None of the licenses are permanent. That's just bad business practice.

I never said that the other licenses were connected. My point is that this has taken everybody by surprise, which would suggest that no one expected it to happen. Now that it has, it's quickly become a stark reality that it can happen again. If BHVR worked out a deal that allowed for some of the game's content to be removed, it's reasonable to be concerned that more content may be removed in the future due to potentially similar agreements.
Besides which, my point in these discussions has been less about the concern that it can happen again and more about the concern that positive or indifferent reactions could suggest to BHVR that we're okay with this kind of thing. It's my opinion that we should not be. We may not be able to control it, but we shouldn't just shrug our shoulders about it either.
Obviously we don't know and can't ever know, but I don't think BHVR was aware that this was going to happen. I find it very hard to believe that they made a 2 year deal with Netflix and knew that the license was gonna come to an end and not be renewed after those two years.
Especially since Netflix has just recently come out and said that they're going to branch out into gaming. That almost clearly screams that they don't want any potential competition in regards to their licensed content like DBD and decided on their own not to renew.
Scott's video put it into a good perspective: https://youtu.be/nNVMXsn_l28

First, we aren't privy to the specifics. We don't know exactly how this came to pass.
Second, it should concern people because...well, because it happened, that's why. When something like this happens, we can react happily, we can react with indifference, or we can react with concern. The fact that this is taking place indicates that it can take place again, and that should give people some pause. To just wave this off as if it's not a worrisome development is more cavalier than I'm comfortable being.
But it always could have taken place, at any moment. All contracts are temporary, not permanent. BHVR has to renew all of their contracts every year or two or else they lose the rights to that content.
You can be upset that this is happening, but concerned? Again, why be concerned? Why would this indicate that any other license will follow suit? Netflix clearly either asked for too much money or decided on their own not to renew at all because they're branching out into gaming themselves and don't want any of their own content to potentially compete with themselves.
The other licenses are not connected to this issue, in any way, shape or form.
-

I agree, and that's what worries me.
Even if this winds up being an isolated incident (which I hope it is), this is not something that should be celebrated. This is something that should cause players concern.
Why should it cause concern? This wasn't BHVR, this was Netflix.
And as far as I'm aware, Netflix does not have the right to any other licensed characters in this game.
And do you really think the other license holders are gonna see this and go "oh, let's remove our licenses just because Netflix did. Even though it's giving us free money, screw it!" *eye roll*

It's something I noticed when the Resident Evil chapter released. On Twitter and what not, there were a lot of customers who were angry that RCPD was disabled, because as far as they understood they purchased the map as part of the chapter. It's never been an issue before, because a licensed map has never been previously removed from the game. However, if a chapter's map can be removed from the game, it should either still be available to those who purchased the full chapter or the maps should not be listed on the sales page.
I understand that the map is part of the rotation and players don't need to purchase the chapter to play on it. But I've noticed that other people I talk to, people who aren't part of the online community and just play the game, think the map comes with the chapter. When the map isn't even available in Custom Matches, there are going to be a lot of confused/upset customers. If maps can be completely removed, then the sales pages need to be updated.
Maps are only removed to fix bugs. In this case the map is only available until Nov 17th, after which it and the DLC will no longer be avaliable, therefore people who had intended to purchase this DLC can't be confused in regard to its content.
And RCP was (not at first, but after they adjusted it) made avaliable in Custom Matches before it went to public, but it would crash people who would play on it frequently before then. Why keep a map in rotation that doesn't work properly?
-

I thought Hawkins Lab wasn't going to be free/available to play anymore after Nov. 17? But it is listed as part of what's being purchased on the chapter sales page when someone buys the full chapter.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/1ANFDVQTTLXW/stranger-things-ps-store-highlighted.png
If players who bought the full chapter don't retain access to the map offline (in DbD's case, I guess that'd be custom matches), then that's an issue. The sales page specifies that they are getting the map as part of their purchase.
Taking it out of rotation is one thing, but taking away any access from people who purchased the chapter could actually be a legal issue. Nowhere on the sales page does it say that the map is not part of what they're paying for, and in fact it's in a paragraph that lists exactly what the customer is paying for.
I donโt know why you're arguing this. It is beyond BHVR's control. Netflix didn't renew the license so BHVR can be in big trouble if any Stranger Things items remain (that aren't purchasable).
BHVR is legally obligated to remove the map or Netflix can take legal action. It doesn't matter what that sentence says, the map was free, therefore it must go.

I've ALWAYS done this, even before the rework. My current mains are Meg, Feng, Kate, Jane, and Yun. They're all Prestige 3 and I switch depending on what outfit I want to wear at the moment.
-
Well I understand some and don't for others.
For Yun-Jin with her headpiece, the entire front part of her hair clips into her fur coat. Most people don't seem to mind but I think it looks tacky and off putting, and that's what the devs don't want in their game.
Others I can agree with, Jane for example. Her head would go just fine on any other body. Or the Twins set, mix and match just fine with every other piece.
I think killer weapons and most survivor heads could be unlinked. Although I think there are exceptions. Such as Yun-Jin or even Kate's Oktoberfest head. Her hair is so long that it clips into her backpack and cowboy hat. Doesn't look good at all.
-
These all sound nice but would absolutely kill que times.
