You're always gonna have a bigger player base at launch that gets smaller after the first few weeks/months. One of the few big updates the game had was making Jason immune to most stuns during rage mode, and hastened his progression to rage mode each time he was stunned, which was a step in the right direction. I feel like if they were allowed to continue balance changes like that, the game would have been much better than what we see now. And that's not even going into DLC or other new content.
So how come DbD grew and F13th stayed in that near-dead state for months on end?
-
I understand it's difficult to spend a lot of time making something and find out that people didn't like it, but that's how it is. Just because you spend a lot of time on something doesn't mean people are going to like it.

You don't care what other people have to say, yet you're avidly seeking opinions? Do you realise this is both insanely stupid and a complete contradiction of your own words? If you didn't care about the two cents of others, then why would you want their opinions? They're nearly wholly interchangeable.
Not "nearly", the expression "two cents" literally means "opinion".

If Friday hadn't been screwed by legal issues, it would be almost on par with DBD at this point.
Last Year has the same balance problems DBD has, but with even less variety.
Identity V is like DBD but only on mobile.
Predator Hunting Grounds hasn't grown for some reason.
Resident Evil Resistance is mostly for RE fans.
Home Sweet Home Survive has boring objectives and chases, like DBD.
Basically, for one reason or another, none of these games can hold a candle to DBD. DBD! So I wrack my brain every time this discussion comes up.

That lawsuit was the worst thing that happened to this genre
F13th was DOA. It lost a massive percentage of its population after just 4 months, long before the lawsuit. It sucked for most people.

Never said the contrary, I just said that it happened in the past.
It's not a conspiracy, it's facts. I've personally worked on one of those, and due to Dmca the all entire game had to be changed.
If the game had to be changed as much as you claim, then the DMCA was probably deserved. Note that F13th, for instance, didn't get DMCA'd. Neither did any of the other so-called "DbD killers".
-
Worst perk in the game, only worth running if you have literally nothing else, and terrible design all-around. It'll have to be redesigned because there's no way to buff it without making it too strong.

The "Plus" is to mention its an additional argument.
I've seen it from my own eyes.
I'm sorry, but at some point, you're going to have to face the truth: DbD is considered the better game by the majority of consumers, out of all the games in the same genre, like Sonzaishinai says here:
@Sonzaishinai said:
There was competition. DbD was just better.
People don't seem to want to admit this but on the grand scale the devs have done an amazing job with dbd.
Licising helped ofcourse but this is not the only reason. Friday the 13th and that resident evil asymetrical game had some of the biggest names in horror and couldn't come close to dbd.
It's time to admit it. DbD is a pretty good game
There is no big conspiracy to make other asymmetrical horror games fail, they do that all on their own by being bad games.
-
Agreed, 100%. This is especially true of killers like Nurse and Spirit, which some people like to claim "have no counters".

DbD Killer on Console uses triggers and shoulder buttons for everything, the 4 face buttons aren't used for killers. They can make a combo of L2/Left Trigger + X, Square, Circle,A,B, whatever for different effects on the same power.
Regarding saturation, it's not an issue, they just need to make them interesting and there's plenty of ways to do so, i gave quick examples of different mechanics or character intricacies that make them a variation of the classic character they are inspired from. IF in this limited time i can come up with ideas then surely someone somewhere at BHVR could think and prototype something right?

Saturation is definitely an issue. Your ideas aren't exactly original either, which is part of the problem. These things have just been in the public domain for so long that whatever you think of, someone else has already done it.
Now, to be fair, I would like to see Dracula and Frankenstein's monster chapters (with Jonathan Harker and Viktor Frankenstein as survivors, naturally), but the fact is, they wouldn't be very original. The only way for them to be original would be if the devs were to deviate from the actual characters, to the point they would just be skins with completely unrelated powers.
-
@Jago said:
Plus Bhvr are very aware of their "competition". They have Dmca'd a looooot of projects. They protecting their bread.
So that's the new claim, that BHVR is actively sabotaging the competition?
-
I think the issue with public domain characters is that the market is saturated with them. How many works with vampires are there? How many with werewolves?
As for your idea of a killer whose power can have multiple effects, how would that work, in terms of controls? Sure, on a keyboard, you have essentially unlimited buttons, but what of a controller?

My issue is that we never actually see in the games what springtrap can do. in the games he just moves a little bit and jump scares...
Because that's what the games are like. There's artificial tension via a ticking clock and jumpscares instead of horror. They're basically timed puzzle games with jumpscares as "You lost" screens.
-
If you want the devs to see this, you should post it here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/suggestions
-
There was never any real hype, just a few individuals (usually with new accounts, like your own) making threads from time to time and everyone else shooting them down.
-
Competition has come and gone many, many times. Every game was either considered bad by most potential buyers (by whatever metric each individual had), or just didn't have enough potential buyers to be sustainable.
Either way, the notion that DbD has had no competition is false. Competition doesn't need to be good to qualify as such, it just needs to be present, which it definitely was. TBH, it seems to me that most people wouldn't consider any other game "competition" unless it DbD died out as a result of people moving from DbD to the other game, which is absurd, IMO.
Before someone brings up the F13th lawsuit for the reason why it died, that's just a myth. It was dying well before the lawsuit, which you can easily verify by looking up player data. Keep in mind that the lawsuit was about one year after the game launched, then note how many players were left after 4 months.

If the penalty was pointless, DCers wouldn't keep coming to the forum to say that it's pointless. The fact that they're annoyed by it (and that DC rates increase when the penalty is off) is proof that it helps to solve the issue.

Killers don't need to DC for this, they can just dodge the lobby, which they constantly do and nobody has problems with it for some reason. Let survivors see the killer before the game starts, like he can see the survivors, and 90% of DCs will be no more, since they will just turn into lobby dodging.
It's the same logic here, really:
- "I don't want to play against SWF/keys/flashlights/medkits/toolboxes/dwelfs/P3dettes so I leave and find another lobby" - completely fine and good.
- "I don't want to play against vpn killer/spirit/nurse/doctor/iri addon myers/legion/wraith so I leave and find another lobby" - and everyone loses their minds about it, demanding punishments.
If you punish survivors for DCing, at least be just and consistent enough to punish killers for dodging the lobby as well then.
Dodging a lobby doesn't cancel the trial after it's started, you just get a new killer in the lobby. DCing is not the same as dodging. If you wanted to be "just", you'd talk about killers DCing, but then you already know nobody likes that.

Given the player count, when you’re looking exclusively at red rank, and how people can encounter the same players fairly often, 300 is a sufficient sample size. Also, it lines up perfectly with what most people in the thread have said, that they hardly ever see keys.
Given the player count
Which is unknown, except on Steam.
when you’re looking exclusively at red rank
Another unknown.

100% subjective. "Twice per week" is "fairly often" for some people.
300 is a sufficient sample size.
Impossible to know because we have no data on the number of players at each rank. They also come from the same region: whatever Azhymovs' region is (or close to it).

Yes, by looking for people with specific characteristics, based on statistical data of the total population they're looking for, and applying a lot of math to make sure the data set is statistically significant. I highly doubt Azhymovs did all that.

The question isn't why it's used in the first place, it's questioning the high saturation of unoriginality of builds of Blight players. As I was saying before, it's so saturated to the point where I am shocked to not see a blight have tinkerer ruin and undying. It's not even about those perks individually, it's about them being used all together.
I have never seen such a high saturation of the same builds from people who play any other killer. Like there's a difference between typical perks that work well with a killer, like Stridor on Spirit, and another to see like 95% of Spirits use at least 3 out 4 of the same perks
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2379751#Comment_2379751
I'm not a good Blight at all and I'm still practising, but like I was saying above, I understand why those perks work well with Blight, but I don't understand the apparent conformity amongst Blight players to use almost the same exact builds always.
You can say the same thing about Nurse--ruin undying tinkerer works very similarly well on her as it does Blight, but yet I'm not seeing Nurses use the same meta builds over and over. The builds vary--from being strong to weak (even if the Nurse is good). And even with strong builds it's still varying; some use ruin, some use pop, some use corrupt, etc. It's never always only ruin and undying like Blight players use.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2379752#Comment_2379752
Blight players are pretty much the only players I see who bring the same exact build. I see no other people who play other killers have such a high saturation of conformity with their builds. The Nurse's, Spirits, Freddy's etc do not use the same build to the degree that I see Blight players do.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2379763#Comment_2379763
Hmm I have yet to see a Blight bring Devour for the fourth perk, although that would be interesting. So far I've seen something like: Ruin+undying+tinkerer+sloppy/BBQ/thana/corrupt and one weirdo brought dragon's grip for the fourth perk
Like I was saying above, the question isn't why are these perks strong on Blight, it's why are they so religiously used to the point where people almost never see Blight players use anything but those three perks. You can make the same argument about Nurse having a similar synergy with tinkerer ruin/undying (or any other meta build) but I never see the high saturation of conformity in builds with Nurse players as I do with Blights.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2379849#Comment_2379849
Don't project. I never said, nor implied, I needed to be amused. I very clearly stated my question, which was why is there such a high saturation of the same build on Blight players as if there are no other perks to run.
- Nurse has a similar compatibility with ruin undying tinkerer and yet I almost never see that build used on her, let alone such a high amount of conformity with builds with Nurse players
- Spirit has a similar compatibility with ruin undying (kinda tinkerer), yet I see a variation in slowdowns if used and overall builds
- Freddy has perhaps the closest compatibility with Blight with Tinkerer ruin undying and again, I see variations of builds with Freddy's I go against
Pretty much goes for every other killer
Don't put words in my mouth if you're not capable of answering.

I see what you mean and apologize. It wasn't my intention to put words in your mouth.
I meant it in the sense that most players just want to win, regardless of what anyone else thinks. If they found something that works for them and performs better than other builds, then that's what they'll use. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", as they say.

Bro ofc you need a better PC when your job or specific section of schooling requires it lol. Stop trying to seem cool on DBD forums its weird as hell to brag that you have enough money to afford a high end gaming PC lol. Bro most jobs aren't gonna require to run code and computer simulations stop acting like thats an everyday problem.
That's the thing: this isn't even a high-end PC. I have a GTX 1070, for crying out loud. Before I was forced to upgrade my CPU, I had an i7-4770K. Yet, it's still good enough for work and gaming. I'd have to spend more if I wanted to play on a console than by just getting a new GPU or whatever every 5-10 years.
Running simulations might not be an everyday problem, but if you're going to college (which I'd wager most people will try to), browsing the Internet, having multiple tabs open, doing research, etc., definitely will be.

I play on PC and console and bro I used to use a $100 laptop for all my work and school for YEARS that would still only be $600 plus a lot of companies that actually require you to use a PC will provide you with a chromebook or somethin
Let me know when you get to college and need to code and run computer simulations at home. My PC is one of the best out of everyone who had to do the same and it still took several hours to finish the simulations. Hell, some took more than a day. With a 100 USD laptop, you'd be lucky to get it done in a week.
And "a lot of companies" would just as easily tell you to get your own PC, because you are expected to have one, like most humans on the planet. If you're doing scientific research, for instance, you can pretty much count on not getting a PC, at least in my country.

I run DbD with everything maxed out, and you'd still need a PC even with a console. You spend more money by buying a work PC and a console than by just getting a gaming PC that can also be used for work.

Not in the sense you mean, no. Because even if I were to, say, do a poll, people could be lying. If I were to attach them to a hypothetical device that can read minds, the device could be faulty. And so on.
Neither of us can back anything up with actual evidence.
Except me, because I did, several times now. Your only "rebuttal", such as it is, is to say that "we can't prove anything", which is like saying gravity is "just a theory". It's technically correct, but also completely irrelevant to the argument.

It doesn't feel unfair to me, though, because I understand killers need to be able to catch survivors at some point.

That is IMO the biggest issue with DBD. You can not run fun builds without throwing, unless you're a god. For example, I could still trounce most teams perkless as Nurse. However, that is not exactly a fair way to balance perks, as very few people are gods, and for the few that are, it is only as survivor or ONE killer. They really need to just either remove perks, or buff every weak one to the power level of Ruin/SB.
If you play casually, you should lose against people who are playing to win. That's not an issue with DbD, that's an issue of mentality. Why should you be able to win if you're not being serious, but are going up against people who are being serious?

I'm saying we can't 100% say people are just rage quitting because they got outplayed when we can't prove it. Maybe it's because people are having a lot of problems with performance right now. Have you played on console?
The performance didn't change, the only difference is that the DC penalty was disabled. Furthermore, we do know when they DC: being found first, being hooked first, losing too many gens, and so on. I'd say it's a fairly simple conclusion that anyone would make.
We can't 100% prove anything because we can't read minds. You have no proof it's due to performance issues either. However, we do have plenty of evidence, starting with the basic fact that nothing changed about performance before and after the DC penalty was disabled.

Because most people are not playing to amuse you or "wow" you with their original builds, they're playing to win. If that means using the meta, so be it.

You should've tried to win the chase by losing them. The fact that killers will inevitably catch up to you is by design. If the devs didn't want killers catching survivors, they'd just put infinite loops back in the game on purpose.
