Right but how does that validate the theory opposing mine? Their theory doesn't survive the most basic level of scrutiny.
The "killer shortage" hypothesis survives Occam's razor, which is, in fact, the most basic level of scrutiny.

The same would also happen with a bad ranking system or errors in matchmaking. It's all speculation, I can't prove queue times are not caused by a killer shortage, but neither can anybody prove the inverse.
On the other hand, Occam's razor leads to the "killer shortage" hypothesis. It makes no assumptions and is therefore the simplest explanation.

Like I, and they, said at the start, no new content was announced. The anniversary stream on May 24th (24-05-20) should hopefully hold more news, though!
I didn't catch the start, I was in a meeting.

Ummm...idk, doesn't it kind of prove that solos must find 3 survivors and a killer before they enter a lobby?
Which proves nothing because the same would happen with a lack of killers.
-
Still no word on the Candyman... Waste of time, that stream was.
-
The problem is that his guess doesn't make any predictions that can be tested, it just attempts to explain what is currently happening. Therefore the experiment needs to be made with the intent of falsifying the guess, instead of confirming it.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:

I'll load 50 lobbies before I give up on finding one that isn't full. Sound good?
And how would that prove your guess to be false?
-
@Waffleyumboy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1278584#Comment_1278584
Ok how should I go about this? Record myself playing solo and loading up into lobbies that aren't full? Would that work or is that not scientific enough?
First, establish what would prove your guess to be false.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1278571#Comment_1278571
Also when did killers have to find people? Don't they create their own lobbies?
Not since dedicated servers, I think.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1278571#Comment_1278571
I don't need to guess. As solo, it is possible to load into a lobby that is not full. Do I need more science than that?
Do you need more science than "this happens sometimes, therefore I'm right"? Yes, absolutely. Assuming you want people to take your guess seriously, that is.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:

Doesn't mean matchmaking has changed. Although this does show survivor priority retention is working.
You're missing the point. Solo survivors don't get put into lobbies on their own, it's always to fill up a lobby. Therefore they should have the same queues as killers, since they need to search for the same number of players. If you disagree with my logic, then go ahead and write down a way in which your guess could be falsified, then go test it. Use a scientific approach, instead of just guessing.
-
@Waffleyumboy said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1278535#Comment_1278535
Solos don't need to find 4 players, they need to find a killer lobby with an open spot. Same with swf. The difference is solos fit into more lobbies. Geez how do so many people get this mixed up.
Lobbies get filled almost instantly nowadays. The only time I see a lobby that doesn't have all 4 survivors and a killer ready to go is when one or more of them dodged.

Dailys since i take days to complete some of them. I survive when i play a normal game for most of the time. Suddenly i have a daily and i die 90% of the time. Killers are always those i can't play at all like the oni.
Oh and a team full of blendettes with some flashlights. Because i know that they ain't there to finish the objective.
I delete most survivor dailies and am going to start farming for the killer dailies. Too much of a pain in the ass to do the dailies with characters I don't play.
-
If your logic were really the case, a 4-man SWF, which only needs to find one other player, would have the fastest queues, and a solo survivor would have the same queue times as a killer.
Why don't you see if that's the case? Queue up as a solo survivor 10 times and record yourself, so we can see how long it took. Then do the same with killer.

No, but that's something for the developers to work on. [shrug]

Sportsmanship to wait over an hour for someone to hit a button you also have but refuse to touch. What a good sport!
Sportsmanship to quit when you're the one holding the game hostage instead of waiting for the other guy to do it. If you're just going to repeat the same thing over and over again, you might as well just re-read my comments.

Everyone listen to mr Orion. Stop doing gens, start searching chests for cool browns medkits, maybe waste the whole round looking for totems, (just in case of noed), or just hide in a locker until everyone is on death hook.
I said literally none of those things and was criticizing the fact that the OP is blaming survivors for playing in a "boring" way, like it's their fault that that's the most efficient strategy.
-
@KingFrost said:
Nobody got them into the situation. The game put them in that situation. Why should EITHER of them suffer a DC penalty for quitting after that?
The survivor is the one who's bugged, therefore the survivor is the one who should DC. It's called "sportsmanship". It's not the survivor's fault, but they are holding the game hostage.

No, you won’t be punished. You may miss out on something unspecified if you haven’t prestiged anyone, who knows, but if you’re worried about that you can always prestige a character or two until they officially announce what they were talking about.
I guess FOMO is a bigger deal than I thought.

Still either can DC. No game is held hostage that everyone isnt agreeing to. If soneone is required to DC than anyone can take a hand in ending the game.
"Look, I know I got us both into this situation unintentionally, but you're just as much to blame for not shooting yourself in the foot as I am!"
OK then.

And yet all are capable to DC...but some are stubborn and some jyst get to chill...who is biased?
All are capable of DCing, but only one is holding the game hostage. By that logic, if the killer can't move after finding a survivor in a dead end, the survivor is to blame for holding the game hostage as much as the killer is. That's not how it works.
-
@Dolls said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277983#Comment_1277983
Killer was also holding game hostage. They both had the oppurtunity to DC.
One person is bugged in such a way that the game will not end. The other is not. Don't be biased.
-
@Maievh said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277955#Comment_1277955
That's dumb, that person is no more at fault for the bug than anyone else in the game.
As for OP, In that hour+ you wasted you could have played several matches. You were both stubborn, you both lost here..
Again, it's not about who's to blame for the bug. Bugs are no one's fault. However, only one person is holding the game hostage, and it's the person who's bugged.
-
@Dolls said:
I disagree. Glitches are the games fault. No one deserves the BP more than anyone else. Killer just as stubborn...
It's not about the BP. The survivor is holding the killer hostage, not the other way around. It's not the survivor's fault, but sometimes ######### happens.
-
@Dolls said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277873#Comment_1277873
Why was she stubborn? The glitch was neither of your faults. She deserved her BPs as much as you...
IMO, the person who is bugged in a way that prevents the game from ending is the one who should disconnect.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. It doesn't help fix the imbalance of this game though.
It's a fact, not an opinion. Your idea of being toxic to every survivor also doesn't help to fix the imbalance and will arguably make it worse as survivors feel forced to play more and more efficiently.
-
Players are not to blame for the most efficient strategy being boring.

DC'ing is not cheating. It's an allowed action that's discouraged with a penalty. There's a leave match button built into the game. You don't get a game ban, like when you cheat. You get a time-out.
So we're just gonna pretend that a time-out isn't the same as a temporary ban?

As much as I believe devs get to make the rules; Mathieu is wrong. Almost no one likes the mechanic. It hurts people with physical limitations like carpal-tunnel or arthritis, and it reduces the lifespan of keyboards and controllers.
It's a bad gimmick that they seem to watch to hold on too in the face of all evidence pointing to the game being better without it.
- It hurts people
- It ruins keyboards and controllers
- People with disabilities hurt MORE
- Changing it can, as I've stated above, fix hook-suicides; the go-to thing for DCers to dodge DC penalties.
Mr Mathieu needs to get with the times and accept that the struggle mechanic is now outdated and bad.
It's not that he's right or wrong (he's not stating a rule, he's stating a design goal) per se, it's that the idea is just bad. I get that it's a horror game, but making the players feel physically unwell (if they happen to have stuff like carpal tunnel or arthritis, as you mentioned) and wear out their hardware is just bad game design.

Even if someone does need noed for kills none of those help. Theres been times when I've been playing a freddy gen build with corrupt and discordance and I already had 2 gens pop up yellow 20 seconds in. New ruin gets worked through like nothing. It's not even funny how useless it is.
No kidding. One time, my SWF teammate and I literally didn't notice we were being affected by Ruin until he had to let go of his second gen because the killer was approaching. If he hadn't told me, I would've just gone through my second generator without knowing Ruin was in play, because I didn't have to let go of M1 once.

If it is silent hill id cry tears of happiness.
Isn't DbD heavily inspired by Silent Hill anyway? Full of fog and monsters, nothing's what it seems, the map elements come from the minds of those in it, people wind up in it without understanding why...

@DelsKibara said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277277#Comment_1277277
Yeah, wonder why.
For non-SWF survivors, that's easily explained: after they lost (died), they just left and got back into the queue. There's basically no reason to stick around as a survivor, other than waiting for the rest of your SWF.
-
NOED is given by the survivors and can maybe get you one more sacrifice if the others play smart and GTFO.
DH gives you multiple benefits, up to and including the ability to kill survivors outright. The risk therefore must be proportional.
-
I can't even tell what's going on in that picture. Why didn't you take a screenshot with Steam?

I play killer as well I don't think shack and jungle gyms are unbalanced, they're counter able if you play them right and use mind games. The killer shouldn't be chasing strong loopers anyway. If I see a strong looper when I play killer, unless there's four of them I'm going to focus on the weaker survivors.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277110#Comment_1277110
I don't just stay at an L and T wall, when the killer guesses wrong with a mind game I use that distance to get to the next tile.
EDIT:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277115#Comment_1277115
I record my games, and time duration of when I'm being chased. Often if the killer doesn't give up on me my chases last over five minutes. if a survivor knows the map well enough, and has good chase route plan then a five minute chase is possible.
I'm I able to stay alive for five minutes in chases each match, no but my target is still either to make the killer give up on me or to get chased as long as possible.
Yes, often I do get killers who are below my skill level, but I'm rank 1 it's not my fault (it's not like I'm smurfing or deranking). Often those killers are red ranks.
The developers disagree. Strong looper or no, loops shouldn't allow you to 1v1 the killer. Why do you think they're being reworked? It's not because they're balanced.
-
@PrettyFaceKate said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1277107#Comment_1277107
There's no set up that allows 5 min chases, even without bloodlust. A 5 min chases is only proof of poor gameplay by the killer. Even 45 seconds at a single L/T wall is highly questionable, because a hit should be scored on that tile even before bloodlust kicks in.
Then either OP is lying, or facing killers well below their skill level.

When did I say I only have fun when I win? I've have some stellar matches where I died miserably. But they were fun because both sides played well and the better man won in the end. Those are the magical dbd matches that keep me playing this game. In my experience, no. Someone doesn't always have to leave unhappy. Someone always has to win, sure. But I don't base my enjoyment in the game on whether I win or lose, it's whether or not the match felt like a fun, fair test of skill. Getting tunneled or camped to death in the first minutes of a match because someone would prefer not to 4v1 is not fair, nor skillful. It's also not fun in any way. People who play that way are the ones who should be playing a single player game, where they are welcome to treat the NPCs as carelessly as they want.
Go play some sports, then complain that it's not fair for the other team to take advantage of your team's mistakes.

BL3? I don't know what you mean, do you mean the shop? I don't like looping around the shop, it feels cheap and boring, I rather use Shack and jungle gyms, where there's mind game potential.
I personally try to last a lot longer then 45 seconds in a chase. For me if I'm playing well I aim to be chased for at least five minutes before the killer is able to down me (if the killer decides to commit).
Bloodlust 3.
Being chased for 5 minutes is not intended and is, in fact, proof of how unbalanced loops are. You're not supposed to be able to 1v1 the killer unless there's a massive difference in skill.

Yeah. Don't listen to pesky people who also want to enjoy a video game they play in their free time for fun. Their fun is completely irrelevant. In fact, if you can have more fun by making sure they have absolutely zero fun whatsoever - even better. Only your fun matters.
It's a PvP game. Someone's always going to end up unhappy, even if you're not trying to make them unhappy. If you always need to win to have fun, I recommend a single-player game.

I can't agree there. Rank 1 killers are some of the worst perpetrators of camp and tunnel. Although I will agree that A LOT of red rank survivors don't belong there.
I don't think "camping" and "tunneling" are issues. They're easily punishable. On the other hand, survivors feeding killers who use those strategies are a big problem, because that's how those killers win. Nearly every single time I'm hooked, there's 1-2 survivors just crouching around the hook, being useless.
