  • I've seen the exactly twice. Once with a Freddy when I was new and once with a wraith.

  • Nurse has time, if that helps.

  • Basekit borrowed time. Go to a loop.

Also people don't even know what tunneling is. If you use your BT for a protection hit, that's not tunnelling. If you get on a gen immediately after being unhooked, you're not being tunneled. If your teammates crouch away and the killer can't find anyone sorry! You're not being tunneled. Your team just isn't doing the stuff they should

  • Oh, that is kinda weird.

That being said I think he's a mid B tier killer that never needed buffs to begin with.

  • @jesterkind said:

I'll be keeping an eye on it, of course, but I don't personally anticipate this being a huge problem.

On top of it being very inefficient and a fairly noticeable risk (you can't move, at all, to use this perk), there's another thing that leads me to believe this probably won't be unhealthy.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, this combo gets wildly popular- it may not be every survivor in every game, but there's a reasonable chance of seeing at least one person running it in your average game. That means that all forms of Undetectable and Blindness get significantly more useful, because even the weak ones disable two perks at once and dismantle a survivor's entire gameplan, but it also makes certain info perks more potent because the survivor you reveal is a sitting duck intentionally not moving.

I think it's okay for some strong things to exist and put pressure on players to bring off-meta perks to counter them. As long as there are numerous options, which there are, and the options you have available aren't terrible perks you'd be throwing by bringing normally, which they aren't (at least not all of them), that's a healthy way of encouraging a meta shift.

I also don't think it'll be a huge problem. Pretty sure the swf with perfect killer location callouts is vanishingly rare.

However it's pretty conceivable that a survivor using this to hide from the killer will also have distortion: the one size fits all aura perk. It'll be a huge pain in the ass to find somebody with this stuff that doesn't want to be found.

  • This is like the wiretap buff that was actually a nerf. I have no clue why they do this stuff.

It doesn't reveal Totems though? It's just Generators and Chests + The Killer.

Oh cool. Thanks for the correction

  • Best totem perk in the game, hands down. Best not use hexes for a while.

That’s why I was genuinely surprised people were crying and throwing up about Huntress getting smol buffs. I would rather go against an S Tier buffed Huntress than even an A Tier Nurse/ Blight.

Small buffs? You can't be serious.

  • It's pretty weird to load into an older, complex game and expect to be competent at it in a couple of hours. I tried fortnite for the first time the other day and got demolished all evening. Better at it today after looking up what all the stuff does. Probably never gonna play it again but I gave it a shot.

It'd be like playing overwatch and expecting to automatically be good and know all the hero interactions. It's just not happening. The game either hooks you and you're interested or it doesn't and you're not. Not everything is for everyone.

  • Why not west Virginia or Tennessee?

  • @Malkhrim said:

Yeah, that was a strange thing that came with the massive perk overhaul. Many perk buffs were awesome (Lightweight being one of my favorites on the survivor side), but others ended up worse than they were before, like Calm Spirit and Pharmacy. It makes no sense to have a downside for a niche effect that only makes a difference when the killer is near while you do actions that aren't even part of the main objective, specially when that downside takes TIME from you, which is one of the most crucial things to have in DbD. The time you take to do something is far more important than the noise you make while doing it, and the LOUDEST part and easier to hear from the killer side (which comes when the action is completed) being kept makes the silencing effect feel almost pointless.

There was a different game director in charge back then. The difference in how perks work since has been pretty obvious and mostly positive, I'd say.

  • @WingerSenpai said:

Can we just talk about why they had to ground up an already nieche perk (which would've become more releveant, since every or every other killer has something to do with screaming now…) and even stab it in the chest with the added debuff you get to some actions?

Devs are sadly making the bad decisions at bad times mostly. Look at the anti tunnel perks, how much of those have been gutted. Look at Dead Hard, because that perk had to go (fine) but thank god No Mither and David's Adept challenge still exists. And now it's almost undoable thanks to that.

They could add conditions or modifiers to a perk, but I guess another 3-4 years may be needed for that.

I've seen metas change over 9 years. And somehow something worse always comes along and the only band-aid fix, if it even counts as a fix, is to push out a new DLC with new perks which sometimes provide solutions to said problems instead of patching those problems into something reasonable.

What are you even talking about? Every killer has something to do with screaming now?

  • Solo isn't any different than any other PVP game that saddles you with a team.

People don't do the stuff you want them to do. They do stuff that makes sense to them. When Claudette is crouching in a bush that seems like a good idea to her. When meg won't finish your 99 heal she has other stuff she's rather be doing. You can't force people to do the right thing and believe it or not- you and I look like that Claude or Meg from their perspective.

The solo bad meme is just so obnoxious. It comes from a place lacking empathy and understanding, armchair generals that expect everyone on a team to execute their desires.

  • I like your pinky finger idea. It really needs to do something else.

  • @xltechno said:

I would allocate that buff to survivors those completing gens rather than to healing. This would encourage survivors to take the task of completing gens more seriously.

And I don't want add effects to cleansing and blessing. Only hook-related modifications to unhooking and hook state progression are sufficient.

That really doesn't make any sense within context of the perk. Maybe another perk.

The blessing and cleansing thing is just such a nonissue. You have to get healed, with a boon equipped and you have to have some totem perk equipped to get value out of it. It's so unlikely that when it does happen you deserve the extra bit of speed.

  • @Strodie said:

I agree, it's too short of a range. I say increase it to 15 meters, and even make it 60 seconds.

I also wish for the perk to be basekit.

60 meters range. Each survivor can activate it themselves to make the duration stack.

Griefing: Deliberately and intentionally irritating, harassing, annoying or trolling other players.

Bleeding survivors out for no reason other than wasting their time qualifies as griefing. Griefing is a reportable offense. It's just that BHVR don't enforce it, which is an entirely different problem.

Yeah, no. Bleeding out is progressing the game state just like being hooked is. There's a timer and it is going down. You will die at some point. Killing survivors is not griefing. Sorry.

Moreover if the wraith is that hungry for a 4k there's reasons to not hook one of the last two survivors. They can 4%. Deliverance can be in play. There could simply be no nearby hooks.

  • @Xernoton said:

This is not holding the game hostage. As bad as it is, they are still progressing.

However, it is definitely griefing which is a reportable offense too. There doesn't need to be a mechanic dedicated to it. They just need to actually do something about the reports.

    It's not reportable.

  • I agree that if we're forced into MMR we should be able to see our number.

  • This is literally just bias. You don't remember the challenges you get easily, you get annoyed and remember the ones that frustrate you. It's like how people say they get camped, tunneled etc etc every game.

Like there's no way you actually think their MMR system wouldn't just explode if it has to factor in challenges, right?

  • @Strodie said:

Skull Merchant takes no skill like killers such as Nurse, Artist, Blight, Spirit, Xenomorph, etc. Any nerf to her is a welcome change by me.

Artist is up there with Billy for the highest skill cap in the game

  • @Strodie said:

I agree, survivors should also have basekit Kindred as well, great for solo queue, and just in general for looping. WoO basekit will improve the ones who wish to learn the layouts a little more.

And basekit botany because of how much harder it is to get heals solo. And basekit object of obsession because swf constantly call out where the killer is. And basekit deliverance with no requirements because your solo teammates won't rescue you like your swf will. Basekit detectives hunch, all the time, because swf surely communicate where every single totem and gen are. Basekit distortion because swf tell one another when aura perks are in play.

  • You seem to spend a lot of time on tiktok and don't even like this game. Have you played fortnite? I think you'd enjoy it.

  • Last night I had scratchies extend well down another hall in lerys from where the survivor went. I was following blood pools so I know he didn't step that way. Checked for lightweight after and he didn't have it.

  • @tjt85 said:

I think there's an argument for making the DC penalty less severe now that bots are in the game. You can AFK / exit the game on the first hook for 10 games in a row yet face no penalty, or you can DC just once a day for 3 days in a row and still be punished with a fairly hefty 15 minute ban. Who honestly thinks this is reasonable?

It's even sillier to have the DC penalty in place for modifiers like Chaos Shuffle, since it's a completely consequence free game mode. It's meant to be played for fun. It doesn't increase or decrease your MMR score and nothing is at stake, so why should it matter if a player is having a bad time and wants to leave the game?

And if players don't want to continue with a bot, perhaps there could be a system in place to vote to end the game early with no consequences for the rest of the players.

People DCing instantly because they don't like their build is the antithesis of chaos shuffle and that's exactly what having no DC penalty would make that the norm

  • I hope the GBA and DS games get recognition. Order of ecclesia is the best in the series imo

It did originate from YouTube. Slenderman and the Slenderman legend came from a contest in which was making creep edited photos. A tall man with a blank face standing in the background of various photos. The creator has since then sold part of his rights for the creation of a game, but given how long ago that was, it's not protected under public domain law which no one has disputed. I suggest doing a bit of deep diving.

It's from the somethingawful forums. I am a gross old man and I remember the original marble hornets thread and not being interested in it. I didn't know there was a game but I reckon I've changed my mind. Slenderman would be a cool addition.

I'm referring to the very popular game Slenderman and the eight pages which has since then been remastered for the latest engine and consoles/PC. In terms of IP, it's not immediately clear if it even belongs to anyone and is currently under public domain so anyone can use Slenderman as they see fit with no legal consequence.

I was ready to laugh at you but oh my God that exists and it has 7,000 reviews???? I don't understand how it's public domain. Slenderman originated as a series of YouTube shorts.

Doesn't matter, this is highly individual.

You have players who are competitive in nature and just manage to get into decent state under 100 hours, because they want to win and actually trying to improve.
Then you have players who simply don't care and are beyond saving even at 1000 hours.

When you believe someone is better than you, then try to learn from them if possible, not give up just because you are likely to lose. People like this are reason why I never want DC penalty removed.

If I take a thousand people with a thousand hours and compare their skill levels to a thousand people with four hundred hours, the skill disparity between the two will be noticable. The folks with a thousand hours are gonna be better on average. Full stop.

Suggesting that people don't get better at stuff the more they do that activity is divorced from reality. Is it always true? Of course not. No blanket statement about a group of people is ever going to be completely accurate. It's safe to make inferences though.

I still think a weak basekit version would be good, especially for solo queue, but I 100% think that beginner perks should be general perks. I think if that were the case though, the usage rate would be even higher, further demonstrating some sort of issue that it "bandaids" with the basic gameplay loop.

It's not a "band aid". Swfs don't call out every pallet they use or point out where to chain loops together. Windows does that for you, infallibly. The idea of it being a beginner perk is also outdated, it's good on everyone. You'll see your favorite stream man using it.

Dead by daylight is a game with very little micro skill and a lot of macro skill. A big part of the macro skill is learning tiles and knowing what to do at what times. The easier you make that stuff the less engaging the game becomes because you're no longer rewarded for that knowledge. If the game is holding your hand and gently guiding you through loops, why would you have to learn anything? Glowing lights on loops. Utterly inelegant.

Also while I've got you: zanshin tactics does the same thing as Windows, but they are not equivalent perks. Why do you think one sits at the same usage rate as unrelenting and the other is like 33%? Survivors lead chase. They decide where to go. Killers just follow. They know what tiles have resources and which do not because they got rid of those resources. It's irrelevant 99.5% of the time. The game is asymmetrical.

You want to lower the skill cap of an already simple game and I cannot see a reason for it. Personally I don't mind Windows; it's the only thing giving blindness value. But it doesn't need to be yet another basekit perk.

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    Grades =/ MMR

Grades are only playtime. Stop leaving matches, better yet, don't play the game and take a break if you've racked up a 13 hour ban.

They're certainly indicative of skill. It'd be silly to suggest someone with 800 hours is as good at the game as someone with 200.

  • I think it'd be better if it worked both ways. Like if you get healed or heal. The above poster also has a good idea, but I don't think it needs a compensatory nerf.

  • @Junylar said:

So we are getting competitive hook rushes with nobody doing gens in soloQ, because doing gens is just not worth it bp-wise.

Shrug. I'm not sure that's why people supposedly don't touch gens. I don't have that problem in my games.

I'm an advocate of raising survivor BP across the board anyway.

  • People act like him just starting with his traps would be too strong but that's the wrong way to look at it. Would him starting with his traps make him as strong as blight? Spirit? Huntress? Even clown or doctor? Probably not. So just let it happen.

It is not really that they do, it is about equality of opportunity... And swf has the potential to communicate all that information, that does not mean that people actually do that all the time, it is just about being able to do so.

Not really? Even if they're using clock callouts whatever they're doing isn't pinpointed in game precisely. Stuff like this it's just asking to make the game more competitive and sweatier. There's a reason adrenaline saw a surge in popularity after the activity HUD was added.

  • It's wild that people think swf has perfect communication and pinpoint accuracy about what they're doing at all times

  • @Junylar said:

It's a wonder why hook farming still gives you more bloodpoints than a whole gen. For one unhook you get 1500 bp + 250 bp for just approaching the hook, for one FULL GEN you get 1250, while the latter takes 90 seconds and the former just a few seconds. If you are playing for bp, doing gens will be the last thing you will do as it's the slowest way of gaining them.

It's because they want you to rescue people instead of leaving them to die

  • Yes, make yet another powerful perk basekit. Why not.

  • I've still seen people running sloppy on occasion and it's just a complete non issue. Ignore the status effect, finish a gen and get healed at normal speed. Playing against it has convinced me to drop it from my builds.

  • More skill checks would make them go by even faster, though.

  • I like gens. When I get too stressed out as killer I switch to survivor and hold m1 for a while. It's nice.

I also like the macro gameplay of defending objectives and finding survivors. Chase is fun, but it's only part of what I enjoy about the game. Exercising macro knowledge is a big part of what I enjoy.

I made a thread a little while back which explains my feelings about the lack of perk buffs.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/413713/i-wish-there-were-more-perk-buffs

It's kind of funny how bad some perks are. For example, Deathbound. Chaos Shuffle was the first time I've seen this perk used in a game for literal YEARS. It hasn't seen any sort of change since Silent Hill's release, when Pyramid Head's other two perks have.

Deathbound has a cooldown, for some awful reason. I run it on a gimmick sadako build but it's really really bad

  • What's your solution to people trying to win the game, exactly? I'm only seeing tired complaints here.
