No one is asking to farm with you.
No one is asking you to sit and watch people do gens.
"I usually play fair, going for 12 hooks if i can and if the pace of the game permits it"
That's pretty much all that is being asked.
You say "if the pace of the game permits it". Who determines that? How? If three gens pop in my first chase am I allowed to get a survivor out of the game? That survivor absolutely, under no circumstances would not think to themselves "oh, I understand. The killer has to slow down the game somehow". Never. Survivors are utterly incapable of that sort of empathy.
-
Half a killers build dedicated to info that's countered entirely by survivors putting their stuff in a corner. Would you prefer slowdown?

It's not about saves. It's about time and distance. - No time spent hooking means no time spent travelling to a hook. Not time spent hooking also means no way another surv can get to safety, if they happened to be somewhat close to a chase / got the short end of a variety of perks that give their location away and/or makes them exposed. If the average match lasts ~11 minutes, a good two minutes of those are the killer carrying a downed surv to a hook and moving from said hooked survivor to another one — that is, if they already know where the new survivor is. That's almost 10% of the entire match time just gone. Add to that the card with the aura reveal, which arguably helps killer way more than surv and the exposed and you got a massive advantage.
Sure. Remove the hook thing since it tilts people so bad and it's apparently more of a menace than nurse and blight combined. The most overpowered thing that's ever existed in the game.

There really is no need to be this hostile. No one here is having a "tantrum" by offering constructive feedback in the "Feedback and Suggestions" section of a forum.
I mean that's kinda fair, I'm just sick of people rallying around the status quo. Weave attunement does stuff???? The horror. This cannot stand. Gut it and stick it on the pile of worthless perks that do nothing so people can be comfy playing with and against the same half dozen perks they're used to.
Killers can auto hook on a hook that's three steps away anyway? Whoa! That's new and scary. Don't like it. Get rid of it. It's frustrating. New stuff is good. Let things shake out before you kneejerk demand it get changed.

Nearly all Killers have standardized hook play, same speed, same powers, same considerations.
Skipping it allows that time saved to be used to leverage their strengths, and on the stronger killers there's a more noticeable effect as that time not spent doing hook stuff is now replaced with their power use, etc. (This is just "Best case scenario" where nothing else other than moving to hook can happen)A more balanced approach rather than simply removing it would be power suppression for a duration after use.
Ya the first part of my statement was about them saying their matches are one sided. Of course they're going to be one sided if you're playing nurse or whatever S-A tier killer you prefer. Your experience is going to be a different one if you're trying to make legion or Freddy work. Making a blanket statement like that with zero context is useless.
If you think hammering the button to have a survivor auto hook on a hook that's three feet away anyway it's truly ganebreaking then I dunno what to tell you except that you're in excellent company with many other people.
-
If that's the case it had a ten year run which is pretty stellar for a live service title. Nothing lasts forever.

- That is why I said teleport the survivor to an actually random hook, and hide the hook aura from the killer. Pyramid Head tunnels easily because the hook really isn't random, and if the killer tries to run across the map, they'll usually find the caged survivor there.
- The perk can be written so that killers don't get any perk activations from remote hooking.
- It's fine if a perk can deny DS. Survivors being able to DS isn't a 100% requirement of killer perks. Also, the perk can be written so it counts as a hook for the purposes of survivor perks, which means that it's better than cage of atonement for every other survivor hook-related perk.
- According to the logic many people on these forums, this perk idea would be a buff for the survivors, because if they can't do things like hook sabotages, then they'll work on generators instead, which is more important for them to do. Therefore, this perk idea should be fine.
"The killer can have the perk, but it can't do anything actually interesting or have synergies*
-
It's ok. They'll absolutely gut weave attunement in response to the complaints and we'll have yet another pointless perk that does nothing at the end of the day. Then everybody will slot the game stall perk of the week in it's place and the sweet sweet status quo will be preserved. Nobody's allowed to have anything interesting or new. Just the same stuff, for forever.

Except you are doing something crazy, even with survivor counter-play aside. The disconnect is in the subtlety of the time saved and ability to dictate your nearest hook without worry.
Agitation is an 18% move speed buff while carrying a survivor and is considered a powerful perk, even banned in some comp tourneys. This remote hook ability is far better than Agitation in multiple ways.
- A basement hook, which is otherwise a 10-20 second time commitment is nullified but still takes survivors the same time to rescue.
- Normal hook times can vary, but even an average hook time of ~7 seconds is almost an entire minute saved over 8 hook instances and that's not including the time it takes to cover the distance back if the hook was in an undesirable direction.
- The time when a killer is most docile is when they're carrying a survivor. This is crucial time which relieves pressure on survivors and allows them to manoeuvre freely and commit to tasks.
- Downing a survivor in the vicinity of another another allows you to remote hook and then pursue a chase almost immediately, denying the head start the second survivor is usually provided.
- Hook selection becomes effortless, requiring little to no thought as every desired hook is in range.
This is all without even taking into account the amount of survivor perks and strategies it nullifies and the powerful synergy it holds with killer perks such as Pop, Pain Res, Grim Embrace, Dead Man's Switch etc.
DBD at its core is all about time & pressure management; this ability does both with little to no cost.
To put it into perspective. If you've ever been afk as killer whilst the game loads in and sit still for 20 seconds at the start of the match, it can almost feel like an insurmountable mountain to climb with the amount of pressure lost in that small time frame. The time saved by remote hooking is crazy and I can't believe it was launched in its current form.
If I had to change it, I'd at least make it select a random hook.
Alright, then get rid of it. Whatever. People tantrum about everything marginally interesting in this game and get it removed. It's just a neat thing and it'd make little difference to my or anyone's gameplay if it got ditched.

You're not gonna get anybody behind making BP offerings iridescent. Folks love watching the BP number go up.
-
I cannot believe people are so tilted about the hook thing. I can go many games without a successful sabo or pallet save. There's no way it's effecting your gameplay that much.
Flashlight saves still work. I spent a whole game letting a "bully squad" save about a dozen times to see if I could get that weird bug where the saver gets hooked as instead. No luck, I think they have to be on last hook or something.
Also like everything you said is wrong. One shot? Perk nerfs? Cooldown reductions? Where do you get this stuff from?

Who signed off on this nonsense of a modifier. It changes the game up so much that i'd rather just have it as seperate queue like Chaos Shuffle. It's sooo bad on surv side… While on the other hand, killer is having it great with this and pallet break QoL change.
It is a separate queue. If fun bothers you so much play the standard game mode .

If the event required you to do stuff with other people for rewards, you'd be complaining about them not working with you. So instead your problem is that...... Someone did a totem one time? Does that really happen often enough to be a real issue? I've played a couple dozen games and not encountered anything remotely like that.

I really don't see how the Remote Hook is a quality of life change for the killer in any way. The only thing it would do is remove the need to walk with a survivor on your shoulder, which unfortunately, as I said in the original post, removes a lot of counter-play from the survivor side.
I'm all for the introduction of cool, unique mechanics; limited time gamemodes are a perfect time to pitch them to the playerbase. I think the Remote Hook mechanic however has some balancing issues as there's seemingly little to no counterplay potential.
- Edited to remove grammatical errorsI didn't say it was quality of life. I said it feels like quality of life. It's obviously a buff, but one that feels kinda natural and not like you're doing something crazy.
The only thing it precludes are pallet saves. Flashlights still work. I can play over a dozen games without ever losing a survivor to a pallet save so that interactivity is vastly oversold. Sabotaging was overbuffed last patch anyway, so whatever.

I mean as a killer main who plays killer 99% of the time it’s great, matches have been very one sided though.
It definitely depends on what killer you play, like any other mode. The hook thing feels more like a quality of life than a super OP thing.
But yeah sure. First cool unique mechanic we've seen in a while. Get rid of it. Why not.

Having it recharge in chase defeats the purpose and honestly seems like a way for killers to keep getting value from their aura perks without worrying about them being countered: cant find the survivor with your aura perks, that's okay, they'll have to come to you sooner or later. So you can use your aura perks to find those without Distortion, then either way wait until all tokens are gone to find the Distortion user/s or else just wait for them to throw themselves in front of you.
I don't use Distortion and ultimately don't care if they want to rework it, but this whole 'recharge in chase because it's unfair to your team mates' argument just comes off as kind of manipulative. The person who benefits most from this is the killer. If my team mate needs Distortion to stay in the game then so be it. If they're useless then they'd be useless with or without that perk.
They've still got three tokens to work with which last a good while. Then if they're gone and they inevitably get chased they will get some back. I don't see a problem with this. It's also a good incentive to actually get good at chase.
I've gotta be one of the only people that ran distortion before it recharged. It was kinda bad but this was also in full BBQ meta and I got pretty good value out of it most of the time.
-
Yeah, let survivors bleed out faster if they want. Let killers leave the game after gens are done. Sure.
-
There's two gens left. Dwight or you could have deliverance. Considering that you're in a four man bubba probably didn't want to get sabo'd or take the risk that you could come back. I'm certain the other side of this has an interesting story to tell.
And realistically speaking, how often does this happen? I've been bled out less then a dozen times and I've been playing since blights release. Let survivors bleed out faster if they want. Quit trying to punish the no good bad killers for trying to win the game.
Edit: I just noticed you have wicked and are trying to bait him into hooking you in the basement. Why are you complaining?

There's a misconception here that survivors are a group of people that should team up and work cooperatively together to succeed In reality, the developers give a lot of leeway to play however dirty or nice you want.
Spread hooks? Sure.
Tunnel? Go for it.
Unhook someone? Sounds good.
Body block for someone? Alright.
Let someone die for your advantage? If you want to, go for it.The main goal of the killer is simply to kill; whereas the main goal of the survivor is simply to survive.
You're right that stealth is primarily a selfish play-style and encourages more tunneling since an injured and unhooked survivor is easier to find than a healthy hiding survivor with distortion. But that's okay, if the player wants preserve themselves at the expense of their team, it's perfectly valid to do so. There is no obligation to act in someone's else's interest unless you want to - that goes for both killer and survivor.
—
If you don't believe me, just look at the Steam page description:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/381210/Dead_by_Daylight/
Key Features
• Survive Together… Or Not - Survivors can either cooperate with the others or be selfish. Your chance of survival will vary depending on whether you work together as a team or if you go at it alone. Will you be able to outwit the Killer and escape their Killing Ground?
Or look at perks like 'Sole Survivor', 'Self Preservation', 'Left Behind', etc.
The concept that each survivor can adopt the play style of being out for themselves has been implemented since the game released. As long as you aren't actively trying to get your allies killed (sandbagging, pointing them out to the killer, etc.) none of it is punishable either for that reason.
—
The TLDR is:
Behaviour gives a lot of freedom to players to play however they like for better or worse. In this regard, I doubt (and hope) there won't be much traction with wanting distortion and stealth to receive changes to make it less effective for the individual (and therefore decrease tunneling). Stealth players typically know they're selfish and sacrificing their teammates, it's just that they enjoy the play style more than they care about others experience and choose to do it anyway - especially since the game specifically allows for it.
And yes, I do say this as a stealth player who has a penchant for unhooking people then hiding and letting them get chased again while thinking to themselves 'Well that sucks. Good luck, you'll probably need it.'
… though if it redeems me in the eyes of readers at all, I often run Deliverance and use my lower hook counts to body block near end game or when someone's on death hook. I'm not afraid to go down for them either since I can just unhook myself. Basically, I love being stealthy and selfish since it lets me control the game better. I know generators will get done early if I'm doing them, and I know someone will intervene for those on death hook if I'm the one blocking.
As such, I do hope to retain my playstyle and not have it nerfed. Stealth is just so fun, especially if you use it constructively.
People aren't going to like your post, but I've read few that I agree with more.
The agency and choices DBD offers players is a big part of why it has such staying power. You can play the game in a bunch of ways with perks augmenting those options and that keeps matches fresh. As soon as they pigeonhole people into playing the game in one way it'll start to die. Guarantee it.
You and I are at opposite ends of the survivor spectrum. Avoiding the killer and playing stealthy is terribly boring to me. And that's absolutely okay! I'll defend your decision to be selfish all day long.
However my main issue with distortion is that it singlehandedly shuts down an entire suite of killer perks for zero cost. It makes them not worth running on killers that have a standard terror radius because they cannot run out. You can't run one or two aura perks and get reliable information out of them because distortion tacitly disables them vs. one survivor. That's problematic.
-
I like how he covered that making aura perks unreliable steers people toward slowdown. The amount of times I've belabored that point is ridiculous

It's wild how good their art team is but every time they touch the UI it gets worse

People don't use gearhead? There's quite a few who use gearhead. Same for darkness revealed - especially those that bring map offerings for game or badham.
And using NTH or BBQ like a bot looks something like this: A killer sees a gen with progress, goes over, kicks it, does a 360 turn and goes away. Returns after a short while and sees the gen has progress. And the mindlessly repeat the same thing. They don't even check on the other side of the friggin wall. - Pretty much the same for BBQ; mindlessly follow the aura even if another, closer surv is in a location you should be aware of - say, a very progressed gen nearby.
If you only run lethal and/or floods then you don't have an aura read build. If you dedicate your build to seeing auras and make the best use of them you will be able to do that, quite easily even. But that's exactly what Distortion is for; if a killer throws in some lackluster aura read they won't get that jump on you.
As for alternaties to Distortion: I think you didn't quite read what I wrote. I said that even those that find the ability to call a killer's aura perk far more valuable than having their aura hidden, have to use Distortion. Spoiler: that's why (maybe rather more experienced? idk, I thought it was common knowledge that Distortion's true power is being able to call aura reading) many players run Distortion. There's more ways to dealing with auras than to just hide your own.
Both of those perks have like a 2% pickrate. NtH and lethal have like quintuple that. They're rare enough that I literally forget they exist and get surprised when I see them in the endgame screen. Darkness has the same issue that dredge has: inconsistent locker spawns. Gearheads that the information isn't actionable for most killers or is just not helpful. You can see a dude on the other side of the map on a gen. Okay? Then what? If you don't have mobility you can't do anything about it. Conversely if they're nearby then you know they're nearby because you are there.
I've never seen anyone just stand in place and kick a gen off cooldown over and over in the hopes that no where to hide procs. That's game losing behavior.
So you're saying that unless the killer has four aura perks they don't deserve to have those perks work at all vs a survivor with a single perk? That's nonsense. There's only a couple of killers in the game that can actually benefit from a full aura build and God knows they don't need the help. You're just pushing killers toward game stall by having a perk that completely negates an entire suite of perks they'd like to run otherwise. I'd contend that even with a full aura build on a 32m TR killer you'd still be hard pressed to burn through every distortion token.
I'm not really going to comment on swf issues. Frankly: I don't care about them. That's a whole other balancing act. I will say that if you're experienced you can take a fairly accurate guess at what perks are in play without distortion and communicate that.

· Weave attunement / Franklin's: Require 2 slots, that survivors bring items to the match, and warn survivros that their aura is being revealed.
· Knock out: Useless against SWF or if you can't down people fast enough + you need a build to support it if you pretend to slug.
· Devour Hope: Hex perk… 😂
· Pop: Requires downing someone, hooking him, and getting to a gen to kick it before the effect expires or the gen gets done, often meaning that you should get out of your way or give survivors distance and prioritize kicking the gen.
· Pain Res: Requires downing someone, only works 4 times per match, pray that RNGesus blessed you and didn't spawned all the scourge hooks on the same side of the map (forget about it in multi-level maps), get to the scourge hook before the most progressed gen is done, it triggers even if the gen only has 1% progress so you can waste charges, and only triggers on 1º hook so if you find the same survivor twice in a row is useless.
· NOED: Hex perk (🤣) that only works on the end game so you play the rest of the match with only 3 perks, it notifies survivors on use the moment it is active, and the totem shows its aura to survivors. If you haven't killed anyone during the match, good luck if the totem survives enough time to down someone.
· Enduring / Spirit Fury: Again, two slots, depend on survivors using pallets and is only useful after at least 3 pallets are dropped. In other words, by the time you make use of it after 3 loops one gen can get done. Also, it requires survivors to not predrop the next pallets after it activates.
· Rancor: It warns the obsession by showing him your aura and only let you kill the obsession, which means finding and downing him first in the end game. There are few perks more situational that need an entire build to support it than Rancor, if you pretend to do anything more that get 1K with luck.
· Cruel limits: I even forgot this perk existed (really, I had to look it up on the wiki). It only activates when a gen is done, and it's almost useless in maps with few vaults or a lot of pallets. If you aren't chasing someone when it triggers, most than probably you won't even get to make use of it.
· I’m all ears: Aura perk that is only useful to a bunch of killers that can use its power through walls, and if any other survivor that you are not chasing vaults something 40 meters from you, they just took away their usefulness (in fact, they should reduce its range to 8 meters so it can only be activated by the survivors you are chasing).
· No where to hide: The same as Pop (- downing and hooking) and any other perk that requires you to kick the gen.
· Make your choice: Who in the Entity's name uses this perk outside a meme build?
These are your "brainless perks with no conditions that win you games"? Really? Because it seems to me that, again, this only proves that you haven't played Killer long enough to even test those perks seriously.
The person you're replying to obviously doesn't play killer at all. They're listing perks that have inconvenienced them as survivor in the past or like....looking at the wiki and naming perks they think are good without any context or experience for why they're actually bad. There's no other explanation. No one can seriously consider two can play a good perk. They just can't admit they were wrong so they are doubling down.

Like.... As what killer? That build isn't winning you games as doctor, Freddy, legion, etc etc.
Different killers do wildly different things and a glut of information is not equally valuable on all of them. And what happens when you get a team that just sticks their items in a corner? Then you've got two dead perk slots.
Gearhead is a decent low b tier perk but it's not countering distortion on it's own.

That sounds kinda annoying to do every game... I am lazy person.
Why not just display it exactly same like you can see your perks now (under offerings)?
I wouldn't show it in lobby. But should be fine to let players see it during the game.
That's fine as well, but knowing how easily tilted people are in this game I simply do not want them to know I've got boons in play until it happens, or that I've got distortion or diversion equipped. This feels like a good middle ground. Also helps prevent perk overlap such as with vigil.
I see no reason why perks would not continue to be revealed indefinitely unless you decide to reset the visibility on it.

@Laendra said:
lol, there are so many aura killer perks that you blow through their distortion charges so fast, much faster than they recharge. It's already too easy to counter distortion, quit trying to make it harder on them. I know it is shocking, but hiding is part of a valid strategy, much like the valid strategies that we use as killers, but survivors hate. If they are an all-match hider, that just makes the match last longer, and gives us more time to find and kill everyone else. Also, perception isn't reality, regardless of what your managers may tell you. If someone isn't seen by the killer, it doesn't mean the survivor did nothing. There have been plenty of matches when I have been playing survivor that the killer never (or very rarely) even saw me during the match, but I outscored everyone else in the match and got 3 iridescent badges, and nearly got 4 (but it's hard to get that 4th one when you aren't evading in chase). I am terrible at looping, but pretty good at doing gens, finding totems, and generally not getting found by the killer.
Like what? And what killers can use them?
Look at a typical good perk combo: lethal and BBQ. One token at the beginning. One token each time someone is hooked. In no reality is this burning through all of your tokens except maybe vs a wraith.
Your other option is gearhead, which nobody runs because seeing a dude on a gen off in the distance isn't that valuable for most killers. And frankly does not melt tokens like people pretend it does. Nothing else outside of a full aura build on a substandard terror radius build can even begin to touch the wealth of tokens that you're gonna get in a game.

(off topic: I just noticed my touch Touch keyboard loves throwing in auto predict words … sick dick tired is a good one tho 😂)
I usually run distortion - not to crouch in a corner but to be able to tell which, if any, aura perk(s) the killer runs and to adapt. I run out of tokens a lot. Floods, Gearhead, Undying, darkness Darkness revealed and various aura add-ons are the usual culprits (stealth and long distance killers aside). Sure, I aint gonna run out of tokens if a killer has NTH or BBQ and uses it like a bot.
The only reason its sometimes perceived as problematic is because its the only perk even adressing killer aura read. It came into the game when there wasn't a lot of aura read. - The game has changed since then, there's a whole playstyle surrounding aura read on killer while survs still have exactly one way to deal with it - even if it's not their preferred way of dealing with it. I for one would switch out Distortion for a perk that tells all survs in the match their aura is being read while it's being read without actually hiding anyone's aura. Because - aside from laughing at nth bots - that's why I use it; to know when I should expect the killer to come zoomin - and in swf to call out aura read. And gawd, I wish I could communicate which aura perk is currently active to my SoloQ teamies.
Nobody runs gearhead or darkness revealed. If floods and lethal to be charitable are the only aura perks in play you're never going to run out of tokens. If you are chased by the killer at any time or exist near the killer at any time it's more than enough to replenish the tokens used. I have no idea what using a perk "like a bot" means. If dude is kicking a gen to try and find someone like a bot then a survivor is sitting around having distortion activate like a bot. It doesn't mean anything. A hollow insult.
It's the only perk that hard counters every aura perk in the game. Even if there were other options there'd be no other reason to pick them because distortion negates aura reading entirely. Any other theoretical perk would have to have a hell of a powerful effect to make it a tempting alternative.

I get it: people running running a lot of aura stuff are sick dick and tired of seeing distortion. — But that's not because Distortion is op or too easy to get - its because anyone who wants to do anything regarding killer aura read has to run it - even if they just want to know which aura perk(s) a killer has. So yes, ofc you'll see only distortion. But that's because there there is only distortion.
Besides, there are plenty of killers and builds where you run out of tokens two minutes into the match.
No there aren't. I've only ever ran out of distortion vs an all aura huntress. Vs every standard terror radius killer it just disables an entire suite of perks. It's problematic.
Why would I run a set of perks entirely disabled by a single one-size-fits all survivor perk when I could simply opt for game slowdown? It's much more reliable and has more difficult counters than just slapping on distortion.

if you read what i said, i said in comparison to the survivor perks they release…and i find killer boring so i dont play it, survivor is more of a challenge.
More of a challenge? I play survivor when I want to chill out. It's 1/4th the responsibility of playing killer.

killers ego are through the roof because of all these buffs, had killer hump bodies until bleedout from the beginning of the match lmao nobody had any meta build or any sabotage build.
Its killers who are getting destroyed by swfs and then putting their anger onto weaker people (solos) Somehow the killer can do anything to you and its not bannable
literally they run the most meta builds and then bm a survivor who isnt running meta and did nothing to them for the entire game, dont understand why killers are nasty for no reason tired of this game and then seeing myself and other survivors get humped for 4 minutes by anonymous users, and they face no punishment.
really wish there was a way to see usernames of killers before match so i can lobby dodge anonymous killers who are either using cheats or plan on being nasty from the start. Tunneling is extremely bad and the anti tunnel perk is completely broken, used DS and then afterwards cannot vault and get instantly downed. Honestly not touching this game until the next patch. Disgusting state of the game. What buffs? The big pop buff last patch? The huge STBFL buffs? The utterly busted OP mangled and Hemorrhage changes?
Killers have just been handed so much stuff this year you gotta specify. It's just buffs left and right for those no good killer mains. Am I rite?
