I don't do this exactly. I play the game, but I do tend to lighten up a bit so they can earn more points. And I'm far more likely to let them get the hatch. Sometimes I'll even let them out but I don't "farm" all that often because nobody learns anything from that. I will play the game but in 2nd Gear. That way they get practice and points. I get some points too, and can try out some new mind games, or whatever. I don't have a problem with your choice here. In fairness, I've done it too from time to time. I just don't go this route anymore, because I want them and me to get something from the game more than just points.
I don't exactly just let them escape free - I'll play the game, hook them twice, then probably just ######### around on the map. Maybe see what I can do with a specific character, practice my chasing or pathing in general. I just think it's one of the least fun things to happen when somebody insta DC's because they got downed.
Or I just have the rest of the survivor's run to me, basically asking for death. That always sucks too, but I get it.
I wish they would make struggle more like PH's cages, with skill checks instead of mashing. It probably wouldn't solve much, but it'd definitely feel more interactive, and it would at least stop people from instantly suiciding on hook.

you could argue that a badly designed killer also doesn't make money.
I'm absolutely not asking for maps behind paywalls, but I dare say when the maps are improved in terms of balance and lore, on top of the game health, it's more likely for people to buy the existing killer chapters.
Fair enough, I misunderstood you. People will always buy killers, even if they're terrible, because it's something new. Maybe not the most hardcore of people, but casual players? Sure.
All we can hope for, in terms of maps, that the current reworks are good enough.
I can't really argue about lore, as there's a huge group of people that don't give a crap about it, and just as many that do. The lore in my opinion is... Decent. It could be better, but it's not terrible.
-
If someone kills themselves on hook (or DC's) when I'm playing killer, I almost always just sigh and let the rest of them escape, unless it's late into the match. It's not fun for either side, and the only time I've ever done it is if I had an emergency, or that time when PS4 was broken and the game just didn't register my struggling.

I'd show you exactly what they said but I'm stupid and don't know how to edit names out.
Nah, I trust you. I've seen firsthand how bad this community can be sometimes. But no, in my opinion, you weren't in the wrong. If a guy was bragging about destroying rank 20's, then I'd say he's probably even more in the wrong. I mean, we've all done that, but you don't see people on here bragging about it. If anything, if I get a group like that I just feel bad.
-
I mean... No? It probably wasn't required to point that out, but as long as you remained respectful, then you're not the toxic one.
If they're the ones that suddenly started calling to toxic, all that #########, then they're in the wrong. That's how I see it at least.

How exactly does making maps and writing lore not cost anything?
Because we don't have to buy them. As long as you have the game, they're free. People who don't buy the Halloween DLC can still play on Haddonfield. The lore that comes within the rifts, or in general, doesn't need to be bought at all to be seen, and I believe you can always check a character's backstory from the store themselves. But making them does cost money.
If they suddenly locked lore and maps behind paywalls, they'd get a ton of backlash, and it'd cause a ton of issues. What happens if one single player doesn't have the map, but the rest do?
-
I really don't think Power Struggle is going to be this amazing perk. It only works in a very, very specific scenario.
-
Probably not, other then licensed characters. I guess it just depends on how many maps they rework. If I'm remembering rightly, the remaining realms that (probably) are going to be reworked are
Haddonfield
The Game
Coldwind
Red Forest
And Crotus Penn Asylum
Probably others, but my memory is terrible. Most of the newest ones aren't probably going to be reworked.

Why I said to expand on the lore and map pools. It's a personal opinion, but I'd say having a chapter dedicated to expanding a pool and the lore to go with it and its characters would work as well as whole new characters.
Well, there's the issue that BHVR still wouldn't make a single cent on that. Maps and lore don't cost anything. Resources cost money, all that stuff. I'm not saying your ideas are bad, they aren't, but they're not realistic.
For now, the Mid-Chapter's will have to do. And (most of the time) I feel like they do a decent enough job.
-
Simply put, they can't. A game like this needs new things to stay relevant, especially with a lack of game-modes. Overwatch hasn't gotten a new character in several months, and just look at it - compared to how huge it used to be, it's not anywhere near that. People, especially new or casual players, need new things to stay interested in the game.
I'm not against the idea of a few balance and bugfix updates, but BHVR is a company, and companies need to make money. DLC's, new content is one of, if not their main, way of making money. Not everyone buys skins or the Rift's, but more people'll buy the character's that come out, especially if their from a licensed property.
TLDR; They need to make new content for the sake of both making sure the game doesn't get stale and monetization. As great as a few of these updates will be, until the demand for new content stops - which it never will - we won't get a pure bugfixing update other then the mid-chapter.

I think something happened between Sony and BHVR. First PS4 DBD is excluded from the Hallowed Bounty giveaway (the one that had the grand prize of 1080 cells a week for a year) and now this.
However, there is something that makes me think this is on BHVR and not Sony. There’s a bigger demand for the disc version of the PS5 (so big that most retailers were only getting a couple digital editions when restocking), but DBD doesn’t have the free upgrade for the disc version, only the digital. This decision is already a stupid one, but it’d be even stupider if Sony was the one who made it because the majority of their customers still want to use discs. Maybe BHVR’s numbers show that more PS4 players have it digitally rather than physically?
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1744571#Comment_1744571
I’ll still be able to play it, right? It’ll just be a downgraded version without things like haptic feedback? I’d prefer to not have to switch between consoles just to play DBD.
EDIT: Also if I buy an additional copy of the game for PS5 (whether it be physical or digital) and play on the same account, I’ll still keep all my progress, right? I just want to make sure I won’t have to start all over again. The grind is too much.
Don't underestimate the stupidity of Sony. I don't have a lot of answers, but I'd guess it's just because they can't give a disc version away for free. They're more expensive to make, and probably harder to keep track of? Idk about that.
But yes, there is cross-progression from PS4 to PS5
-
I'm not sure how much control BHVR has over this, it could easily just be Sony holding them back. Do we even know if DbD is getting a disc version on the next gen?
This definitely sucks, but I'm not sure it's BHVR's fault. As others have pointed out, it seems like discs are gonna be phased out in favor of digital. Big, collectors editions would probably just have codes.
-
Ooh, have fun with it! I probably won't be able to get it for awhile, so if you get Demon Soul's tell me how it is!

Eh, I just have a very chill approach to most things, or at least I try to. I understand this is a very important subject to many people, I just think it's going to be very hard to incorporate LGBT+ into a game about violence. I just hope whenever it happens they make them actual characters and not "flamboyant stereotype #78"

im about just to correct you but i think Nurse and Wraith are just a ship however, the first let's say "openly heterosexual" character that got introduced was Felix
which doesnt make a lot of sense neither but yeah let's confirm sexualities by making Felix straight i guess
And yes, I agree too, at some degree that DbD is not the best choice for that, but the point is basically pointing out how some promises take reaaaally long time to get fulfilled (and im not talking only about the rep here but in general)
That's fair. Others have already pointed out to me that there were more than I thought, I'm just the big dumb and forgot about them. I'll edit my post in a bit to make that clear.
That's another fair point. The Dev's do take VERY long to deliver on promises, but we don't know how long these things to make. Blight's character was revealed way back in 2018.

Nurse and Wraith isn’t really a thing in game (there is a cosmetic set that kinda hints at it I think?)
but we have: Nurse (was married to a man), David (had a girlfriend at some point), Legion (Frank and Julie, see their tome) and Felix (has a pregnant wife)
The cosmetic set is the Phantom of The Opera reference I mentioned, and I think the Dev's confirmed it?
And you are totally right. I'm just the big dumb, and forgot about all of those.
-
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but (aside from the licenced characters) isn't their only one confirmed hetero pairing, the Nurse and Wraith? Even then, I don't even think it was that serious - it was just to get a Phantom of The Opera reference in. Edit: I am wrong, there are far more hetero characters then I remembered.
Representation is important, but... I'm not sure this is the right game for it. This isn't a game about lovely relationships, it's a game about murder and torture. Shipping is fun, but at the end of the day this isn't a fun, romantic setting. I think it's just hard to work sexuality into a game like this without facing issues.

I think that’s where the trade off consideration lays. My feelings are is it’s meant to be a weaker version of Ruin with the upside that the survivors cannot eliminate the perk from the match.
Much like a serial slugger could choose between The Third Seal or Knockout. Knockout isn’t as strong as TTS for this strategy, but it also can’t be cleansed either.
It’s also worth noting that sometimes the chaos simply leads/keeps survivors away from particular areas of the map. Even with base regression, if survivors for any reason don’t return for some time, it can still hurt their progress.
Fair enough. Oppression is definitely worth a try, I just don't see it lasting in the current game outside of niche builds. The devs have definitely been adding enough gen kick perks lately to make a few different builds.
-
@TheClownIsKing said:
Seconds absolutely count in this game as killer.
If for any reason survivors aren’t on the other 3 gens that start to regress after kicking another, any regression is better than NO regression.
Like Surge, this is going to save tonnes of time, especially if getting into another chase shortly after kicking a gen.
It’s like a mild t1 Ruin that the survivors can’t cleanse.
I'm not saying Oppression is a bad perk - it isn't. It just isn't worth it in the current state of regression. It's definitely going to save a lot of time, but only in the kicking of other gens. I'd rather just run Ruin/Undying, as unless I get really unlucky at the immediate start of the match, it's guaranteed better regression.
This post isn't about Oppression being bad, it's about base regression being bad - because it is.
-
Sure. I think all killers are viable on console, I've seen console killers wreck my ######### as Nurse and Blight. They just take more practice.
-
@BassTram said:
I think Oppression is a very good perk for killers that have very bad map pressure just cause it keeps them from having to go to each gen specifically.
I'm curious if Oppression would work well with Trail of Torment. Kick a gen to become undetectable and if a survivor fails a skill check on a different gen you know which general area to go, all with no terror radius.
Oppression certainly will have it's uses. And huh, I didn't even think about that. I'm gonna have to try out a Trail of Torment, Dragon's Grip, Oppression, Surveillance build.
-
@RepostRiposte said:
Whenever I see people say that Oppression is going to be meta I think of those rank 20 killers who stop to kick a gen before every chase.
Base regression does literally nothing unless you are able to completely stop survivors from working on gens, in which case you have already won.
I remember those rank 20 days where I thought kicking a gen did things. Times were simpler then.

Heck, if base regression were better survivors would be able to stop complaining about Ruin/Undying/Pop because only the sweatiest "I must win" killers would still use it. Most of us want to try using other perks with other killers but matches are over in 5 minutes if we do.
I could finally get the Wraith Adept. After two years.
-
@BattleCast said:
It’s definitely improved, but they went a little too ham with the breakable walls. I played a couple games and there were like 4-5 breakable walls in the main building which is ridiculous.
Well, at least the map is better. Hopefully they'll tone it down before it goes live.
-
@gibblywibblywoo said:
Yeah. Its why I've always found kicking gens over immediately chasing the survivor worthless. I remember a long time back asking in a Q and A stream if base regression would ever increase even just by 25-50% and they said no.
For those that don't know, base gen regression is 0.25 charges per second. Survivors repair at 1 charge per second. So if you were able to kick a complete gen it would take 320 seconds to regress fully.
I've said this before, I'll say it again - I feel like a lot of the "genrush" problems would be at least somewhat solved if base regression was worth it. The fact that survivors can just tap a gen to stop it regressing is a huge problem, at least imo. I'm not saying it needs to be Ruin levels, but it needs to be more.
-
@MigrantTheGreat said:
The problem with Oppression imo is the 80 second cooldown! The perk needs a cooldown, but 80s is too long!
The cooldown is a bit ridiculous when the affect isn't that amazing.
-
@Demogordon_Ramsay said:
I prefer Oppression for the skill check thing. If the Survivors mess it up you get free instant regression and tabs.
My question is, does it work with Surveillance?
As far as I understand, yes. And that's fair. I actually haven't seen how difficult the skillcheck is yet.

Thanks for that, i'll add him...
Hm, wonder why i didn't bring it up when he released. 🤔
In general, I do hope the past killers get better animations in general. Wraith's mori has such a cool start with him dragging the survivor towards him, I'd love to see it made better. I think they're planning on updating the old characters models, maybe it'll come then (if at all.)

There's an animation for her killing them personally, and the Reverse Bear Traps.

Makes sense, it's probably pretty hard to land.

I'll be completely honest, I forgot she existed for a second there. Yeah, her skins really look all alike. I wish BHVR would show her some love, I think her concept and character are neat.

As others have said, it's not really up to BHVR. It would be awesome but at the end of the day it's up to Sony and Microsoft.
-
I'm hopin the PTB will come out tommorow, but the actual trailer won't come out for weeks, at least if it's an original killer. Normally, the trailers come out around the time it goes live, at least with Blight it did. I could be wrong though. Don't know who it is, probably some bestial, feral type killer.

Maybe? It'd fit into the timeline of when the chapter will come out.

What? Konami hasn't forgotten, they just don't care. They aren't exactly the most lovely company.
People still love Silent Hill. PS4's with PT sell for THOUSANDS of dollars.
Silent Hill is always going to be cared about. I doubt we'll see videos two decades after FNaF's release calling it a horror masterpiece.

Yeah, Pyramid Head showed us that killers from niche series could come to dbd
As popular as FNaF is, Silent Hill will always be a far more remembered series, at least in my opinion. It still has videos talking about how great they are two decades later. It's nowhere near niche.

I mean, it's amazing how so much of the DBD community doesn't want anything to do with the FNaF community when this is their flagship.
I mean, I used to be of the opinion that any killer could fit into the game now that we have mister dorito head, but I'm starting l to get the distaste for them.
-
Slinger. Every single damn time he shoots me without hearing his terror radius I nearly jump outta my seat. Ghostie and Oni are up there.
-
You wot.
Alright, I'll pretend I'm taking this seriously for a second. The killer is a woman, or at least sounds like one. I don't think it's licensed at all and even then I still think Until Dawn is closer to the trailer.
Look, I get it - you want Springtrap in the game, but when your name is "SpringtrapforDbD" and all your posts are like this... It's starting to come across as a troll thing.
-
PH, Ghostie, Wraith, Oni, and sometimes Blight. I'm not great with the latter two, but boy are they fun.
-
What? As far as I know, people still really want Jason - it's just that he's, as others have said, in legal limbo. His game just made it even more unlikely, but unfortunately it seems most of the servers are being shut down.
