I really hope the PTB comes out tommorow so people will stop talking about this.
I don't think it's licensed. There is nothing to prove it's licensed. We haven't gotten a teaser for a Licensed killer since the Pig, they've all just gotten trailers immediately.
To me, all the ties to Until Dawn are pushing it. The arm doesn't look nearly long enough, and the woods aren't snowy.
I don't have faith that Sony would license out their IP to a company like BHVR. I think Konami only did so to get the name Silent Hill known again, I wouldn't be surprise if those rumours of a Silent Hill 1 remake are true. And, if I'm being completely honest, I think more people know and care about Silent Hill than Until Dawn, but that's just my opinion.
If it's licensed, great! New killer! If it isn't, great! New killer!
If I come across as rude or anything, I apologize - I now understand why people hate whenever SpringTrap mentioned, with how often I've seen this topic.
-
I think aside from a few add-ons, Oni is up there. Demo is close, but I think he could use some small buffs. I feel Blight is probably balanced, but that's just my opinion.
Those are my three.
-
AND MIKE
-
I mean, Ghostface I can kinda understand, but Wraith announces his presence with a loud-ass bell. Unless he's runnin an Ultra Rare, it's almost impossible to get jump scared by a Wraith.
-
I mean, we'll have to see. From Software has moved on to other projects, and as much as I would love to see Ludwig's glorious moonlight in 60 FPS, it's not getting updated anymore and it hasn't been for a long time. DbD is, but I'm not gonna hope for it. It's all up to BHVR and Sony now, I guess. Maybe they'll gain the insight to do it. Heh.
-
We're likely to get the PTB pretty soon, but I don't think the actual chapter will come until next month, if I remember how the schedule usually goes. Probably early-mid december.
-
Finally, a balanced killer!
On a serious note, if a Dark Souls boss/character ever got in I would lose my goddamn mind.
-
And I thought that Margaret Thatcher theory was convincing. We've got some detectives on this forum!

Do you have any ideas of how a Shining chapter would work? In terms of the killers powers etc.
Bluntly put, no, and that's the Issue. Jack Torrance is just a man. Sure he's a man driven crazy either by isolation or a haunted Hotel, but he's just a man. If he did get put into the game, I figure it'd have something to do with the "Overlook's Presence" or something like that. Possibly the Ghosts from the hotel helping him out in some way? It'd be cool to see what they could do with him, but I don't see it happening.
-
Congrats! Michael would probably be proud of you if he had emotions!

Best? Stranger things map aside, Blights chapter (forget the name) and while a lot of people hated old freddy at launch and its still the worst reviewed one on Steam, I really liked the Nightmare on launch.
Worst? Chains of Hate (although I actually really like the map) and Darkness among us without a doubt. Awful awful awful killer, atrociously badly designed map and the most forgettable survivor to date outside of maybe Zarina. Still the two most boring killers ever added to DBD. They'll struggle to 1-UP themselves here I think.
Also is Ghostface considered a chapter? If so despite liking Ghostface I'll add him to worst due to the sheer lack of content he came with.
GhostFace probably should've been a Paragraph, like Bubba and Ash, but he was considered a full chapter. I'm assuming it must've been a licensing thing.

I loved when Oni was added. Like you said, he’s just such a visually cool killer. I haven’t gotten to a stage yet where I enjoy playing as him, but I still appreciate him.
Steve and Nancy are two of my favourite survivors and I never thought they’d be added to this game. I still remember the trailer coming out like it was yesterday.
I eventually wanna become an Oni main, I think he's really fun, but I'm just so used to my sneaky playstyle as Ghostie and Wraith.
I was really excited when I saw Steve. I was pretty sure the survivor would be Jonathan, since the first season focuses around the Byers' family so much, but I'm so much more happy with Steve and Nancy. Even if Steve's perks are utter garbage.
AS for a chapter I'd want, I'll say it once, say it a million times - Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Its personally my favorite horror movie, and I would be so happy with them. Imagine how cool it would be to run around the Overlook Hotel? And imagine the theme. The Shining already has one of my favorite themes of all time, incorporating it's soundtrack into DbD would be amazing.

My top 3 so far are Halloween, Stranger Things and Chains of Hate.
In terms of killer, I feel like the game has already peaked for me, because I can’t see any other killer being more appealing to me than Deathslinger is. Although I do enjoy other killers, I constantly find myself in situations where I wish I was playing as Deathslinger, so I always go back to my favourite cowboy.
For survivors, I won’t be fully satisfied until we have Sam and Dean, so my heart will continue to yearn for them.
What have been your favourites and are you waiting for any particular killers or survivors to show up?
Cursed Legacy, GhostFace, and Stranger Things.
I fully believe Oni is the coolest looking killer in this game, I enjoy being a sneaky killer and leaning behind walls, and Stranger Things because it gave me Steve.

Below Minimum Wage: Your greed and capability for torture know no bounds. Hard earned work is nothing to you. For every action a Survivor completes, they are faced with very difficult skill checks, and all actions speeds are cut in half. They also earn a third of the points as normal.
Seems like a pretty accurate portrayal of Fast Food work.

There's no good reason to tease an unlicensed chapter either. All you do is show the 50 million licensed franchises it could be then release some random crap out of left field. Like when they showed Plague's hand, people can guess whatever they like but nobody was like "yup, that's a projectile vomiting babylonian priestess."
Until Dawn was pretty popular, I don't see why they'd have any reason not to go for it except for the risks surrounding playstation exclusivity. Sony would probably be up for it because it gives people a reason to consider buying a PS5 since it's back compatible with PS4 games, they may want to play it after seeing it in DBD alongside other icons.
I don't think it IS Until Dawn because the hand is just a bit to fat and human to be the Wendigo, but I don't see anything else that comes close to theorise around.
The biggest problem with the Until Dawn theory in my opinion is SONY. Sony doesn't like working with companies, and they don't like sharing their stuff. It was legal hell to get Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, and Sony didn't even want to allow Crossplay on popular games like Fortnite until the internet had a breakdown. Sony isn't a smart company. If Until Dawn wasn't owned by Sony, I'd probably be all for it.
-
No matter who or what it is, I'm excited to see what they are. I'm not sure who handles the trailers and such, I'd think the art team, but they've been killing it recently.

Where? Nothing in the Leatherface video indicates it being the TCM IP, and the same with the SAW video (though that one is explicitly obvious that it was SAW).
Keep in mind I'm referring to the teasers of those chapters, not the trailers. Because the Chapter 18 video released this morning is also a teaser.
That was my bad, I didn't even know there was a Leatherface teaser, but still. At the very end, when they have the trademarks for BHVR, the last one listed is "All other Trademarks are property of their respective owner." That indicates another trademark is being teased within the actual video. The Leatherface teaser didn't even include Bubba and they still had to put it there. The newest teaser does not have that, they only mention BHVR, which indicates the killer is orignal. The teasers may not indicate anything, but they still have to mention the fact that it's another IP. Legality is a #########.
-
But... They do. At the end of the Leatherface Trailer, there is a lengthy portion of the trademarks dedicated to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. At the end of both saw trailers it states "All other trademarks are property of their respective owners." They are literally legally required to do so.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought we got 2 originals this year with slinger and blight + pyramid head being their liscensed
That's true but I don't think we can expect them to keep up with the "2 original 2 licensed a year" thing. Licenses can be hard to aquire. There was a period of time where we didn't get a SINGLE license, from Clown all the way to Plague, four killers - a full year.
-
It's not licensed. If it was, they would legally have to put trademarks at the end of the video, even if it was a teaser. There are none, so it's original, at least most likely.

You never know... BHVR May have been smart about some of the caveats of having DBD as part of PS+ some time ago. One of those caveats being that they wanted Sony to be open to licensing IP for DBD.
Chapter 18 will be the very first chapter since the release of PS5. And PS+ Collection on PS5 will introduce a host of new players to Until Dawn that never got a chance to play it on PS4.
It could very well make a good marketing ploy to have an Until Dawn chapter, have it get player base from Xbox, PC, and Switch curious about the game, and get them to purchase a PS5 and PS+ for all the free games they can finally try that they never did before hand.
Of course i’m really reaching here.
But it’s always fun to throw theories around when a new DBD teaser drops.
Straight up, I don't think Sony is that smart. Or they just don't care. Sony could EASILY make so much money if they released some of their exclusives, buy they're so IP protective any chance to make money ends with "No, mine >:(" they weren't even gonna add crossplay to popular games until half the internet had a breakdown over it. Sony just doesn't care, they like their things right where they left them, away from the hands any other pesky companies.
If it is Until Dawn, I will gladly eat my words.
-
Yippee, more breakable walls. Hopefully they're implemented better and not just "heres a breakable infinite have fun"
They look good though, the Art team always nails it.
-
The thing is, the odds are stacking against it being licenced. When a teaser, or a full trailer, has a licensed character in it they are legally required to put trademarks at the end of the video. This teaser had none. They've moved away from giving licensed killers teasers recently, the last one to get one was Pig, and only giving them full on Trailers. It's probably something to do with licensing issues, or something. Multiple sources have claimed it's gonna be original, and there's the tried and true fact that Sony doesn't like sharing their toys. It was legal hell to get Horizon Zero Dawn on PC, I imagine it'd be way harder to get a character from Until Dawn in another game, let alone a game on PC and X-Box.
Silent Hill is a far older game, and Konami is probably going to release a new Silent Hill game soon, so that explains the Silent Hill chapter fairly well, and Bill wasn't on PS4 for a long time. I think it'll probably be a Wendigo, or something similar, just not... The Until Dawn Wendigo. Until Dawn didn't invent Wendigo. I'm just a bit worried that people will hype this up, then be disappointed when it's not what they wanted. I don't think that's fair to BHVR, who have made no signs to this being Until Dawn. Normally, when they have a license, they're pretty obvious about it.
-
Lore wise? Probably none of them. The Entity powers them all up, makes then unstoppable killing machines. But if they made it out into the real world, probably a big portion of them.

All right, lets look this through.
The witch point is valid. Those claws don't make much sense.
The Wendigo not so much. We don't seem to be getting a new map this chapter so using a different forest makes sense as it tempers expectations while still being fitting.
The Rake point doesn't make much sense as The Rake absolutely has lore. That being that it tortures people in their dreams with stuff relating to their past. Which fits the quote perfectly.
The Samara point is valid, she hasn't attacked like that before.
My biggest issue with the Until Dawn comparisons is the whole "It has pale skin and claws" and the noise it made, but it's not like those are unique to Until Dawn. There are plenty of monsters that fit the very quick, pale skin and clawed figure. SCP-096 for example. The noises are somewhat similar, but not entirely - and I don't think noise in general is a fair deduction. If Until Dawn wasn't a PlayStation exclusive, or if Sony ported it onto PC I'd probably agree with that statement, but there has been nothing about Until Dawn other then some PSVR games. Besides,it seems a huge amount of people are tying the Wendigo ONLY to Until Dawn. Until Dawn didn't invent Wendigo's, they're a folklore creature.

I found it here but the information could change https://www.leaksbydaylight.com/dead-by-daylight-chapter-18-original/ it says that the next killer can be bought with Iridescent shards if it was the Wentigo or the witch from L4D and Until Dawn then you would need auric cells.
Ah, I'll take that with a grain of salt then. Still, I think Chapter 18 will be original.

Remember when people thought Blight might've been a Werewolf because he screamed/growled for a second in his teaser?
I'm not trying to be a killjoy, but I think it's far, far too early and short to actually gleam anything from it. Things we know
The killer sounded female.
There was a snowy, wood area.
She had pale skin and claws.
That's all we know. The description does share some themes with Until Dawn, but it's not like the whole "Searching a dangerous place for answers and hope" is a unique theme to Until Dawn. I just don't want people to hype this up like they hyped the Stranger Things livestreams.

1) konami isn't exactly known for being lenient with their IPs and they got Silent Hill so... there's that.
2) Left4Dead is a PC exclusive game and they managed that very early on so I don't see platform limitations being an issue.
Konami hasn't been exactly loved these past few years, and there's heavy rumor's of a Silent Hill remake on PS5. Maybe it's just the realist in me, but I think Konami only added Silent Hill to get the name known again. Sony doesn't like to share their toys. Silent Hill is an older game, and while Until Dawn is old as well, I don't see them giving that away anytime soon. I think games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Detroit: Become Human is just Sony tying to get some of their games on PC, but those are far newer than Until Dawn is.
Bill wasn't on PS4 and X-Box one for a long time of the game's lifespan. They only added him after they worked out a deal with Valve. I don't know much about Valve, but they seem a lot more relaxed compared to Sony.
I think an Until Dawn chapter would be awesome, I just don't want people to hype it up in case it isn't that. There's literally no evidence of it being an Until Dawn chapter, other than some similar themes. People hyped up Demo possibly getting a re-work, when there was no evidence of it happening other then them just talking about Stranger Things. If it is Until Dawn, I'll eat my words, I just don't see it.
-
I'm pretty sure it's an original killer, probably based off the Wendigo legend, and I really don't see it being Until Dawn. I don't see BHVR adding a killer from a PS4 exclusive game, and in regards to Konami - There are a lot of rumours about a Silent Hill remake on PS5, so I think Konami just wanted to get Silent Hill talked about again. That's just my take though, I could be wrong.

So first off it's simply the color and look of the hand that slashes the screen. It's grey and clawed just like the wendigo from until dawn also keep in mind that the next chapter is very likely to be licensed because the devs want to do 2 OG and 2 licensed chapters a year.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/2KTQM89M5B2V/ww.jpg
Next is the background which is in the woods now that isn't very strong evidence but the setting for Until Dawn is also in the woods.
The final thing we have for a clue is the noise made, it sounds VERY similar to the scream of the wendigo in Until Dawn. Notice the vibrating in the voice and while the pitch and length isn't the same that can be expected what matters is the similarity.
here's a video that contains a lot of the wendigo screaming.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuLoxOuUVUo
now i know they sound different however it is not unthinkable that the entity got a person who was in the middle of turning into a wendigo and stopped the transformation process which could explain why it sounds more human than what is in the video.
Now for arguments of the wendigo not being in dbd the first thing that comes to mind is fact that the wendigo is blind. however that in itself is a pretty interesting mechanic to explore mainly because unlike other killers the wendigo is extremely fast and agile so in exchange for not seeing survivors it could be very fast and maybe even have a low TR. we know that the entity can alter abilities like with freddy and also grant powers so its not unthinkable that the entity can give the wendigo a way to find survivors like with echolocation or being able to see survivors close to it, or maybe even provide it knowledge of the map before hand so it doesn't bump into objects.
This is of course all speculation no need to hate me or argue it's fun to guess and all we can do is that until the chapter is announced.
I think it's a Wendigo, just not... The Until Dawn Wendigo. Sony and PS4 are infamously very, very protective of of their property. Besides, I just don't see BHVR adding a killer from a PS4 exclusive game. It'd be cool though

Thanks for the reply!

Forgive me if this has been discussed to death already, but I didn't see any threads about it with a cursory search.
When the matchmaking was overhauled to divorce your ELO from your rank, there was also talk of a unique ELO score for each killer, so that players wouldn't be penalized for playing a ton on a favorite, then trying out somebody new. Was this system actually put in place, or was it shelved for another update down the line?
I ask because I picked up a whole mess of new killers during the Halloween sale and regardless of who I choose, I am invariably matched up against red rank tier players with full meta perks, maps & keys, and all manner of custom skins. These are not the sort of survivor teams I would expect to be matched against a killer I've never played before.
I have to say, I was pretty excited by the idea of a killer-specific system. Like, I have a pretty good handle on the basics of a handful of guys, but when I'm getting these kinds of teams every time I try out somebody new, it's pretty discouraging. Especially for killers with more elaborate powers/strategies that take a long time to learn.
TL;DR - Did they shelve the Killer-specific Matchmaking, or does it just assuming you'll be equally good with everybody and you have to lose a whole bunch before you get groups more in line with what you'd need to learn a brand new playstyle?
That would be MMR, and it's currently in the works. When they implemented it, it was very, very bad, so they're trying to make it better.

Demogorgon isn't as strong as Oni but they're not massively far apart. They both have incredible mobility and a really, really strong chase power with little to no drawbacks. But at least Oni can be countered most of the time, but at the expense of having an instadown if you screw up. More risk for more reward, as a killer should be ideally. I think people really underestimate Demogorgon to be honest.
I wouldn't say Demo's mobility is "incredible". Plenty of killers have far, far better mobility. The fact that he has a hefty cool-down on teleporting, and he can only teleport from set locations that can be destroyed. Demo has plenty of risk reward, on both sides. It's incredibly easy to tell if he's about to Shred, and even if he fakes it he's slowed for a moment, so it's all up to the Survivor to out play them. If Demo misses, he is hugely punished. Demo isn't terrible, but I don't think he's 'hard to counter' by any means.

Oni, Hillbilly and a bunch of similarly strong killers have those mapwide sounds too. It's to offset for their strong powers. Plus, it fits the killer as an interdimensional monster.
Demo isn't nearly as strong as Oni is, that's the difference.
-
Demo is completely fine. His Shred is fine, and he has plenty counterplay. Channeling Abyss slows him pretty considerably (a quick google and a look at the Wiki tells me that he moves at 92% while using his power) , and I don't know if you noticed, but it's incredibly obvious when he's about to shred. Sure, he can fake it, but half the killers in the game can fake their powers. Most people love versing him. Missing a Shred gives him a massive cooldown, so yes - he's fine. He's not overtuned, or anything. If anything, he could use a buff.
-
Use whatever you want, don't listen to anybody that says you can't. Just expect that some killers really won't like you for using it. This is a videogame, have fun.
-
Name a more iconic group.

I mean... They might not be "M E T A" perks but they're nowhere near bad on Wraith. Hell, I'd say Enduring is a meta perk for Wraith because he so desperately needs it.
Also, as others have pointed out, you're using one of his best add on combos. Wraith is one of my mains and I love him, but he is weak. I've seen people 4k Stomp as Clown at Red Ranks, that doesn't change the fact that he's arguably the worst killer in the game.
Wraith NEEDS add-ons to perform well, his base kit is horrendously weak. That's why he's weak, he's so, so add-on dependent.
-
Really, Dead Hard for Distance is the only thing I personally dislike about the perk, but I prefer it a lot more compared to Sprint Burst. With most killers it's easily baitable, and I have no idea how many times I've seen and experienced the good ol' 'Exhausted on The Ground' problem. Could it use some fine tuning? Sure, but all the M E T A perks could use some fine tuning.
-
Ah, darn. I didn't realize hooking somebody in the basement, the literal closest hooks sometimes, was BM. Guess I'm toxic.

I'm hoping they give her something more... Visual when she's phasing. I never played against a spirit during this bug, which is... Rare, but I feel like it would've been a little too easy. But like I said, never played against one, so I can't say. Part of me is glad they fixed the bug, because I think all bugs are important to fix even if they arguably make the killer more balanced, but at the same time, like... Guess it's back to those "totally awesome and insanely skillful mindgames"

Sorry my title wasn't exactly properly worded and for some reason it auto-capitalized lmao. I'll probably try to change it because people are getting mad and think that I'm trying to tell them that only I'm right. I'm just trying to help understand why some people find some killers boring. Ok let me give you another example then. Why do I find nurse, or hillbilly, or huntress fun to play against even if they are all on the same, or above deathslingers level in terms of chase? Idk I understand your logic and thought process but I'm trying to say it's not a matter of strength but a matter of survivors feeling like nothing they do matters. Also that change to deathslinger sound fantastic imo :)
I'll admit, I fully recognize why people don't like Slinger, and as to why you like those killers - they have more interactivity. You can tell when they're charging or using their power. With Slinger, you can't without looking at him, something he can easily fake. I just don't find him boring because he scares me every single time he shoots me. That's why I feel if he had some kind of noise, people wouldn't hate him as much.
-
This is actually really neat, but I can see stealth completely destroying him.
