WE cannot wait for them to act, so again we rise up. Let's create another super thread about their incompetence in optimizing console. Talk about your experiences, talk about the good and bad times with this game on console. Let this thread be the one to reach the legacy of that other super thread. They won't listen until we either leave or become loud enough. But we cannot fall like our predecessors. NO DEV BASHING. Or The mods WILL close this.

as the OP of the previous "super thread", I gotta say I find this unnecessary.

First, BHVR already officially acknowledged the problem, which was never done during our previous "battle".

Second, this time the problem is literally game breaking - it was awful during 4.1.0, but now it's just unplayable. They will (and most probably are) already losing a lot of players due to this, there's no way they'll not try to quickly fix things.

The PS4 player base is the biggest after the PC one (probably because of the fact that game got gifted in the PS Plus a while ago), if half of the players just quit playing it will be extremely impactful.

And no, I'm done giving the benefit of the doubt to BHVR, the very fact that we currently are in this condition means that they simply don't do Q&A on console - maybe they emulate the game, maybe they have some special hardware that is unaffected, still, obviously their Q&A process doesn't work and this will probably never change.

However... they still want our money, and PS4 players can't give them money if they stop playing the game. So yeah, they'll fix it, and I'd think this will be their highest priority for the time being.

  • well, do you think their hard work on ps4 optimisation comes free? I gladly play, at least now the game runs as smooth as white sharks' teeth!

  • @Stinde said:

I got contacted 15 hours ago and they are investigating and working on a fix. The ps4 problems were also acknowledged in McLean's stream yesterday.

That's all I know and I'm guessing once they get a hotfix they will extend the event to compensate.

Personally I hope that they also compensate ps4 players with some extra BPs.

anyway, if you were contacted by the "support team" (as in: you opened a ticket), it really doesn't mean too much. They "contacted me" as well after the last patch, when I pointed out that the game needed to be restarted after a while to maintain decent fps, and now we have patch 4.3.0, so...

McLean's stream is better info though.

  • well it could be easier to fix though, since it's obviously something specific with our game version and/or our hardware.

Holy crap. That is absolutely terrible. If this can’t be fixed soon, then they need to extend the event. I don’t remember the frames ever being this bad.

well, at least the build is good!!

I'm already predicting something like "The developers already know of these issues and are working on it. However, we cannot give a specific date." as a response

to be fair this time I'm a bit more confident that they will act quickly - I saw certain videos that are just... astounding. I predict a decrease of 50-70% in PS4 player base this week alone, if they don't fix it. I'm not saying this lightly, people simply cannot play with the current performance, it's not being picky here.

If I didn't stream it, I would stop playing it as well - and my stutters/framerate are not as awful as the videos I saw, so...

  • I saw a couple of videos on reddit and... omg, I consider myself lucky, my experience is AWFUL, but for them it's literally unplayable. Stutters that last full seconds, fps that struggle to stay above 10. Just... wow.

Does anyone else know my pain? :(

my suggestion is to run corrupt intervention, and at the beginning of the match keep an eye on the two totems to see if you spot a survivor aura.

If you do, rush there (...depending on what killer you're using, obviously...) and prevent the cleansing. At this point even if they will eventually cleanse this totem or the other, at least you gained your first chase very quickly.

Depending on the killer and where the totem spawns you can delay the inevitable for veeeery long.

..as an example, look at this game (but beware, the frame rate is NSFW, I'm on PS4 and the recent patch broke the game):

  • and this is the scary part btw, because the video from @Stinde shows something that is even worse than my experience (which, to me, is just UNPLAYABLE) - and I have a first generation PS4 :\

EDIT: also, I'm looking at a stream from a base Xbox right now, and stutters are almost (...almost) non existent. It's obviously just a PS4 thing, because frick us, I guess.

Are you kidding me?! It's not super surprising but still sucks, especially since my main is graphic-heavy. I might try a couple games with Doc to see just how bad it is for myself, but I think I'll just try to platinum RE3 Remake instead (at least the worst thing I have to deal with there is Stage 1 and 3 Nemesis being super aggressive on Inferno because it's from devs that know how to optimize their game). It's a shame, I was kinda excited for this event, but the poor optimization had to ruin it.

    Licensed Archives

    • If there’s one thing you can expect from licensed characters, it’s for them to not stay quiet. We’ve got a few looking to tell their stories and The Archives is the perfect way to do it. Keep an eye out for some familiar faces making their way into a Tome & Rift soon.

Am I missing something, or should I no longer believe BHVR?

to be fair, I think I've read in other official posts (or youtube/twitch videos) that if they would ever introduce licensed character in the tomes, it would be just with their perks / lore, so no character specific challenge.

...we'll see if this changed though.

  • I just posted my take on a new hopefully easy to understand mechanic that tackles the OP point, if you guys want to take a look:

    @Nobsyde said:

As an effort to try and slow down the game granting that the killer is pressuring the gens, here's my suggestion.

    KICKSTARTING A GENERATOR

    Kickstarting is base-kit.

Every time that a generator is kicked, survivors need to kickstart the gen to stop its regression.

To kickstart a generator, a survivor will need to work on the afflicted generator for 2 consecutive seconds. A progress bar will appear on screen, and the progress will be shared with other survivors working on the same generator - the speed at which a generator is kickstarted is not changed, but as much as a single survivor keeps on working the gen, the kickstart will continue.

There are no skill checks during the kickstart.

During the kickstart, the generator is still considered as regressing for all intents and purposes (surveillance, repair charges, dragon's grip...).

Note that it is implied by my description that it will not be needed to kickstart a generator with Ruin (since the generator has not been kicked).

Surge might be an exception, but it will need to be explicit in the perk description.

With this little change, I then propose another one for the perk Overcharge - the change is aimed at helping low rank survivor (which could struggle with the skill check) and, at the same time, make the perk more viable for killers at high ranks.

    New Overchage perk description

Overcharge a Generator by performing the Damage Generator action.

Increase the time to kickstart a generator by 50/75/100%.

Failing to completely kickstart the generator will result in an additional 3/4/5 % loss of progress, and the killer will get a notification.

    That's about it 🥕

  • (the following is not a direct reply to you @Boss , it's just adding to the conversation)

the interesting part of DbD (both as a survivor and as a killer) is the interaction between the two sides. The problem is that while for killers this interaction translates to almost everything he does in the game (may it be finding survivors, chasing, kicking gens, put traps for later interaction...), for survivors this is not true.

Most of the time, the real interaction of a survivor with the killer is a chase.

Of course there are other indirect interactions like hide/sneak away when the killer is approaching your area, saving/healing your team mates or tactical decisions like not getting 3genned or break totems vs commit to a gen, but it really depends on the skill of the killer to be able to share this kind of interaction and decision making to the whole team.

More objective will not give, by themselves, a more interactive game, it will simply increase the chance for a killer-survivor interaction - if they artificially increase the time spent in a trial.

If the added objective are just an alternative to the gens and/or take exactly the same time as it is now to power the exit gates without adding other risk factors (like... sound bubbles, new interesting status effects, injure states...) they will be absolutely worthless.

Sorry to hear about that, but here is some harsh advice for you that you need to hear... grow some thicker skin. It's the internet, so don't get too bent out of shape over some person's comment when they have no idea who you are and won't think for more than a split second about what they've said after they've said it....

Is this a millenial thing? (I am a millenial btw, but everyone seems to get offended by everything nowadays.. the gen-z/soccer moms would not have been able to handle old-school cod lobbies or UT2004 when people could spam you with a lot worse).

and for the record, this is the exact mentality we need to fight.

Sirris has a thick skin, but he has empathy and what this post is all about is for us (as a community) to understand that words have a meaning, and they can hurt.

It's not Sirris that needs a thicker skin, it's the community that needs to be more sensitive - especially the ones that, like you, think "well, I do my part...".

Sorry if I come as harsh but yeah, I'm a bit upset after reading your reply, gotta be honest.

I'll preface with this: this was a while ago and I didn't reply to them. Rolled my eyes, deleted the message, life goes on. I was also a bit wary of posting this since many people feel they need to defend themselves as if I am making an accusation or "woe is me" type post. I do not know life differently, it's not something I see a negative as much as just life. I am not posting this for sympathy, nor am I accusing anyone of doing these things. Some may also think I'm lying, since I deleted the message because I don't care what some random toxic survivor thinks of me. I have no reason to lie, but this is the internet, so you should be taking things with a grain of salt anyways.

Yes, I am. I was born with a disability that severely impacts my motor function. And it took me more than a decade of extremely nuanced OT to be able to even properly hold a PS4 controller.

I am very disabled when it comes to manual dexterity and motor function. Always have been, I was born with it. I am 19 years old and it takes me 2 minutes to tie one of my shoes. I couldn't play anything more difficult than Pokemon as a child. It took about a decade of specialised therapy to be able to do what can now. Taunt me all you want, I'm just happy I can actually play the game from a physical standpoint.

But I'm not the only bad killer who gets taunted for being bad. And I'm not the only disabled person playing the game. It doesn't bother me on a personal level because I am just happy that I can play, but it very much bothers me that people feel like they can go around saying these things.

I'm not accusing anybody of anything, of course, I will always give the benefit of the doubt.

I just think it's important to know that there are people who are fully okay with saying these things over a VIDEO GAME. If this person met me irl they wouldn't know I had a disability because I've learned to live with it in a way that lessens the burden on me, and makes me look more normal.

In the end though what does it matter? This person has the audacity to say these things, my life goes on and I'm the one using government funds to buy more DLC.

    (But also...please don't do this)

thank you for this post, it made me very, very sad.

    Not about you, though.

About these guys and girls which use a certain violent language and behaviour just because they are unable to empathise. Their life will be miserable if they don't realise this, unable to live with others, to love others, to be loved by others.

Good luck @Sirris , see you in the fog.

    Title.

I've seen a few content creators openly DC (or openly admitting to DC) in front of an audience, however, I haven't seen anyone say to their audience directly to start DCing though.

I know talking about content creators is a really touchy subject but this is just something that seems so irregular to me. It just seems a really bad thing to do even if you aren't promoting it because people will do what content creators do.

(obv don't name and shame k thanks)

CC issue aside, the problem here is not the DC, the problem is the absence of penalties for a DC.

Even raging can be a valid reason to DC, but there need to be a penalty for the safeguard of others and yourself: if you rage you need a time to cool off, otherwise your mental status will just worsen and worsen, and the likelihood you'll DC the next game as well will become even higher.

Also I'm not saying that "DC due to raging is a valid reason" lightly, at all. But take for example the topic of the guy that spoke with his therapist about how DbD negatively influence his well being - you might argue that they shouldn't play in the first place, but what if everything was fine for them, but then something triggered a very negative response in them? Should they just endure the pain for the sake of the others? Obviously not - there's no game in real life where you have to play, but certainly if you decide to quit there will be consequences (disqualification, fines, bans...).

Until DC penalties are back, DC will grow and grow, to even bigger numbers than they were before, so... let's just hope penalties will be back :).

  • what I found most difficult with the blight on controller (ps4) are the instant decisions hits:

assume you are chasing a survivor in a short hallway (or a loop acting like one), you might want to bounce on the left/right wall, instantly turn again forward and rush + lunge. With a mouse this is straightforward, while on a controller the two 90° turns you need to make (notwithstanding the adjustment for the eventual survivor jukes) are very, very difficult to do efficiently.

There's nothing the devs can do to fix that though, I guess I'll just need to git gud.

  • @CrowFoxy said:

I recently started thinking and studying into some psychological stuff and even unironically spoke to my own therapist about how dbd might have an overall negative impact on my mental health.

The results and responses I got were staggering, but won't take long to share.

This is just ONE medical professionals opinion of course, but feel free to ask your own. My therapist believes with dead by daylights gameplay, combined with reward from win/loss, community responses I showed (screenshots of post game etc, chat messages from consoles), that dbd can have a profound negative impact on your mental health.

And I agree. It may be "just a video game." But that's a weak argument. Dbd can hurt people, and be unfair, and not fun and that's okay! It's a competitive game, you can change your mindset. But I thought some people just might need to hear this for once.

assuming you are serious, there are a couple of things to address immediately:

    1. the fact that DbD can have a deep negative effect on mental health is not a medical professional's opinion, but an opinion from somebody that don't know anything about the game aside for what you told him, and that happens to work in the medical field.
    2. psychiatrist are taught to not challenge their patient. You don't say to a schizophrenic that thinks he's being followed by the CIA just outside the door that they are "delusional", you say "it must be horrible to have this feeling.", and then you go on from there.

This to say that the most probable thing here is that you manifested unsettling feeling to your physician, giving him proof (from your POV) that DbD has a negative impact on your health. He understood the situation, acknowledged that certainly there are negative stimuli on your well being (toxic chat / toxic gameplay) and, instead of telling you "yeah, probably DbD and the DbD community is not meant for you" he generalised with a "can have a negative impact on anybody".

He did good, let's be clear here, he wants to help you, but that insight is valid only for you, though.

...which is not to say that DbD cannot have a negative impact on anybody, btw, but this goes for basically anything in the world.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1655518#Comment_1655518

I said debuffs on one and buffs on the other, read it again. Debuffs do indeed stack multiplicatively, or else you'd be able to get -100% interaction speed in certain circumstances. However, because debuff perks that have tokens or something akin to tokens say that the total debuff is the number of tokens multiplied by the base debuff (for example, two injured survivors with Thanatophobia means 2 x 4% = 8% debuff), I didn't feel the need to explicitly mention that only debuffs from different perks stack multiplicatively. I've edited the OP to be more clear.

    Also, 4% x 4% = 0.16%

Hoping @Gay Myers (Luzi) reads this thread and pins it...

ok makes sense, I misread "buffs" to "debuffs" since that was the topic of discussion.

is there an official statement anywhere regarding this debuff stacking behaviour?

  • @Orion said:

Apparently this is needed again and I'm not sifting through 1k of my own threads to find the other PSA I already opened on the subject, so here we go.

Here are the facts you need to know beforehand:

    • Interactions in DbD are measured in charges (c)
    • Interaction speeds are measured in charges per second (c/s)
    • The default interaction speed is 1 charge per second (1 c/s)
    • Debuffs of the same type stack multiplicatively
    • Buffs of the same type that come from different sources stack additively, but they're usually capped, depending on the type of buff

To get the total interaction speed, you divide the number of charges required by the speed at which you're interacting. Below are two examples with debuffs, both centered on generators, which require 80 c.

Example 1 - Dying Light with 3 tokens

Dying Light gives survivors a 3% speed debuff in several interactions. With 3 tokens, that's 9%.

    The interaction speed is, therefore, 1 - 0.09 = 0.91 c/s.

The time required to repair a generator becomes 80/0.91 = 88 s (approximately). As I said above, you divide the number of charges required by the speed.

Example 2 - Dying light with 6 tokens and Thanatophobia with 3 injured survivors

Dying Light is providing an 18% slowdown, while (current) Thanatophobia provides a 12% slowdown.

    The interaction speed is (1 - 0.18) x (1 - 0.12) = 0.82 x 0.88 = 0.7216 c/s.

The time required to repair a generator becomes 80/0.7216 = 111 s (approximately). Again, you divide the number of charges required by the speed.

I don't understand what you mean with "debuff of the same type stacks multiplicatively" and "debuff from different sources stack additively".

If that was the case, 2 tokens of thana would apply a 16% debuff (4% * 4%), while obviously that's not the case.

Also, in your second example you multiply the debuffs from dying + thana, which are "two different sources", hence, by your definition, should stack additively.

..this being said, to my knowledge these debuffs should all stack additively, meaning that 3 tokens of thana (12%) + 6 tokens of dying (18%) should add up to a 30% slow down, not to a ≈28%

  • @TransverseCaster your posts are too long and I don't even know what your point is anymore, but I'm curious, so, I'll give you one yes or no type of question to help me out here:

considering how the game currently is (slugging, moris, clicky clicking...), are you in favour of DC penalties?

    If not:

do you agree that when you DC, whatever your reason, you make the other players experience worse (sometimes the killer experience, sometimes the survivors' one, sometimes both)?

    if not:

would you agree to play a version of DbD where everyone could, at any point (*), "surrender" (basically: DC), regardless of when the trial started?

(*): actually, let's do your version - a survivor can surrender whenever they are downed, a killer can surrender whenever they want.

  • @Yords said:

Do they mean that there are bugs with audio in the game? Do they mean that the audio is just bad and hard to hear? Such as footsteps and breathing. I am confused and I'm not sure if people are saying there are bugs or if the audio for dead by daylight is not very good. I'm asking this because I have had a few people say in end-game chat that as killer sound isn't very good. I'm confused, someone plz explain.

    • survivors on the ground are sometimes (often) completely silent.
    • survivors sometimes don't make grunting noises while injured even without iron will.
    • more often than not you can't hear footsteps while in a chase - and that is not just due to the loud music. Either the footsteps sound doesn't play or their volume is artificially lowered, we don't know.

This being said, I hope @KhaineGB is misinformed, because Tech Devs have said in different occasions that they are aware there are problems with survivors' sounds, they apparently know the reason of that (it has to do with survivors animations, because, but this is my guess, sounds are triggered from the animator editor and not directly in the code), but it is very difficult to fix it.

As far as I know they never fixed anything after this statement was done.

  • I'm a very avid Spine Chills user when I play survivor, together with Iron Will, but I gotta say I think a slight nerf could be a good idea.

The problem right now is that Spine Chills is a hard counter to certain killers and, even against all the other killers, it promotes play styles that make the game infuriating for killers: stealth and hold w (the latter luckily counterable by very high mobility killers, but still..).

It's not that much of a problem against solo survivor and/or a single spine chills user, but when there's a couple of them, or they are in comm, it starts to get a bit tiring - which is not to say it is OP, it's just not fun to go against.

I do like the proposal to make spine chills active only when crouched, but this would promote an even more stealthy play style - survivors won't even work on gens at that point, since they can't hold w anymore.

I'd like Spine Chills to be a perk able to reward players that don't shy away from the killers instead.

One possible solution could be to switch to a token system, for example:

For each 10 seconds you are in a chase, you gain a Token up to a maximum of 5.

Press the Active Ability Button while not running to consume 1 token and enable Spine Chill for 5 seconds.

While Spine Chill is enabled, you activate Spine Chill when the Killer is looking directly in your direction and standing within a range of 36 metres.

While Spine Chill is active, Skill Check trigger odds are increased by 10 % with success zones reduced by 10 %.

While Spine Chill is active, your Repair, Healing, Sabotage, Unhooking, Vaulting, Cleansing, Exit Gate Opening, and Chest Unlocking speeds are increased by 2/4/6 %.

In bold the only differences I made to the current description. Numbers are just placeholders, the concept is what matters.

EDIT: The "active ability button" may conflict with Diversion or other perks - still, pick a button that you can use :P

  • Yeah.

Instead, I really would like somebody to open a thread expressing their opinion on the perk changes, that would be cool!

  • I would say that it can be infuriating, but certainly not stressful.

Just take a drink and enjoy your first hook death.

I’m right though, the more toxic you are as a survivor the higher the chances of being granted a kobe.

It's a well known bug of the Unreal Engine, BHVR can't do much about that without going and change things at a veeeeery low level.

Basically, every time certain keys/buttons are pressed repeatedly, the subroutine vectorMapCos is called without being able to debuffer into voidParm, which cascades to an astounding amount of null pointers which were initially referencing to the Z-trigger.

Obviously, since the Z-trigger is now null, toxic players get an unfair advantage in every scenario where voidParm would usually be debuffered - hence the Kobes.

I hate always going through these forums and seeing nothing but bias. I don't care which side you main. Just be civil, and not a complete jerk about it. Can it be annoying when you just pop a gen and noed hits after you swear you got all 5 totems? Absolutely. Can it also be annoying when you are about to get a 4k and someone has a key? Absolutely. Neither side is perfect. This game isn't perfect. This isn't bashing the dev's either. They try their best, and while I understand their best isn't always enough to satisfy everyone at least they try.

Anyway I guess this was just all one big rant. I don't care how much you agree with me. People have different opinions...accept that.

people aren't neutral because neutrality doesn't exist.

    In fact, everyone thinks this:

I don't care how much you agree with me. People have different opinions...accept that.

or, to be more explicit: I have my opinion which I think is correct (hence: objectively true). You can have yours, but I don't care about it because you are wrong (if you don't agree with me).

  • It happened to me as well on crotus penn asylum two times on the same pallet with the hillbilly.

Well, I can’t really say much but after trying him out for a few rounds, I got to say, he is by far the most worst killer I have ever played. He feel really wonky and broken in many situations. At certain times it he feels so wonky that I feel like I am not even controlling him. I feel so bad for people that actually payed money for him, I brought him solely for his perks and with shard thank goodness. I am going to keep trying him out but I want to hear other console players opinions/experience with him. Is he bad, good, horrible? Etc.

Blight on console is good. It's just more difficult to play, and you need to restart the game after 3-4 trials otherwise the bad frame rate will make him basically impossible to use.

I just uploaded a video with a new build I'm suggesting console players to try (I'm not a huge fan of Undying + Ruin, for the reasons I explain in the video)

  • Now I'm scared :O. What is that you need 🥕

His Turnrate is limited so it doesnt matter if you play with M&K or Controller. Its not like playing Nurse or Huntress where M&K is superior.

the big difficulty on console is to quickly turn the camera after a bump to aim for the survivor/next bump; either you take a bit more time than you can afford to guarantee the hit, or you risk to misaim.

  • @jisp3r said:

On PS4, can't turn even 50% of what I see from PC streamers... Weird

    yo @jisp3r :*

I can assure you on console it is absolutely possible to turn exactly as much as on PC - in fact in a couple of days I'll upload a game where I show just that - a couple of hits at ≈ 90° turn angle.

It's just that the concept of the "flick" is different than with other killers: you need to be already turning while the lunge begins.

as for @Babyyy_Boyy , as somebody else has suggested try to use compound 21 to start learning how the killer works without getting overly discouraged.

    This was my first week:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fkrv0mBpJ00

while this is yesterday (no compound 21):

    https://www.twitch.tv/videos/744114398

of course there's still A LOT to learn and every time I see @ScottJund play I feel like the biggest of the noobs, but even if we'll never be at the PC level, I would say Blight is certainly viable on console (...unlike Nurse :P)

That rarely actually works. Dropping them and picking them back up works every time for me

yes, and you can avoid the DS bug by simply not using it.

    Come on man :)

  • the action bug (hooking, kicking, vaulting) is borderline game breaking. I can safely say that I encounter the bug multiple times every game.

Probably it's the position I'm used to take while performing these actions, but still...

Anyway I'm sure this will be fixed by tuesday. Well, not "sure", but I assume bhvr knows how awful this is for killers.

you probably mean "The Game", and yes that is a good idea but still, he'd be more fun to play at a fixed height, now i dont mind if they made it like what u say, because that is exactly the case of the legion, he becomes shorter when he starts his frenzy, so good idea man, i cant argue with that one, but i think a fixed height would be more fair since his mobility is not as fluid as the legion, legion has many more benefits from his frenzy, but still, i like ur suggestion, will defo write that down for any upcoming blight videos.

yes, I meant The Game, I don't know why I always say "The Map" instead lol.

As for the fixed height, I would agree with you, but allegedly the devs said that the very short height is by design, I assume so that players have a better idea onto what they did bump. Probably through playtesting they found out that a lot of players were clueless as to where they bumped to and that's what we have now.

Problem is that this short height makes following survivors in certain loops basically impossible, especially with the ######### up sounds that we have since... 1 year? 2?

  • there's only one thing that I loved of this video: 3:02, the "flick" inside the door, exploiting the no collision during the lunge in a very small space.

That was wonderful and I'll certainly try to master it

  • @EvilJoshy said:

Seriously. This is a competitive game whether you admit it or not. It has 2 sides each with an opposing objective so they compete. The complaint I keep seeing in various forms is "that's not fun for the other side" In any other game with a multiplayer, when has the other side give a damn about someone else's fun? Do you see people in fortnite, overwatch, CoD, They fall saying "you shouldn't do that. Not because it's effective but because it's no fun for me". Killer, survivor, doesn't matter. If you want both sides to have fun then the game cannot be competitive. If your not having fun move onto the next match or take Kote's advice and "Play something else".

I'll tell you what happened to me my last two games:

I have a survivor on hook. They save her, but for some reason I find her running towards a god pallet inside the Badham main building. She's camping the pallet but I down her because I lagged (she didn't even throw the pallet, she obviously didn't see me at all).

I say "well, this is unfair, I'll leave her be and get somebody else".

The game and the gen rush goes on, that extra pressure would have made all of the difference but whatever, that was my decision. Her decision, though, was to tbag me at the exit gate.

Next game, I down a survivor.

They rescue her, but she fails in running away. I down her again, and patrol the gens around her before picking her up again.

One person comes for the rescue, but I have nurse's calling and immediately go back, down her again and this time I can hook her.

I go away, but as soon as she's unhooked I find her once more. She's dead. Less than 5k points for her.

    Eventually I kill everybody.

So. Competitively speaking, the latter game was the right way to go: maximally optimised my chances to win. Did the girl have fun? I'm sure she didn't. Should I care? Yes, because I know how it feels to be on the other end.

If you don't empathise with this there might be two reasons:

one, you think (as you do) that DbD is a predominantly competitive game. It is not, though - it is too unbalanced, too buggy, too unfair with the matchmaking to be considered a strictly competitive game. DbD is a hardcore party game.

    two, you are too self-centric.

    Or both, of course.

  • @PigMainClaudette said:

It's common knowledge that a lot of people on these forums don't like Self-Care. That's fine. You do you.

What I'm doing today is just sharing why I use Self-Care on ALL of my builds that I have the perk available for, outside of custom games with friends.

I'm the type of survivor that likes to have two health states. I'm quieter when at full health, and I'm not immediately screwed if I make a mistake in a chase against a majority of the killer roster. I don't hate Iron Will, but a second health state feels more beneficial to me.

"BuT jUsT uSe InNeR sTrEnGtH oR a MeDkIt ThEn!" Sure, I could do that, or I can also go with a perk that has INFINITE USE, and isn't completely negated by a single perk that a killer is likely to bring after seeing at least two other items in the game. I don't like that Inner Strength is tied to totems, something I hunt fairly often to deal with NoED because you lot won't, and I hate that Med-kits can be dealt with Franklin's Demise entirely.

Both of those solutions also run off a limited resource, which again, I hate having. Yes even as a Pig main that has a limited number of my primary power.

Lately in my main build that I am running, I've also got Resilience, so having a perk like Self-Care that allows me to be at 99% healed, activating Resilience, and being at basically full health because I have eyes, ears and Spine Chill to tell me when the killer is near to pop my healing. Something I cannot do without comms is warn the other survivors of what I am doing. Extremely detrimental as a solo player.

There have also been a lot of times, again as a solo player, where I've had to scramble and ditch the person who just unhooked me because the killer is returning to the hook. No survivors then make contact with me for a solid while, so I'm left alone to heal myself. Even at red ranks. With a lot of survivors also caring about splitting up and "generator optimisation", you're then not always guaranteed to be nearby another survivor provided they also haven't removed themselves instantly.

One thing that everyone covers is the amount of time that Self-Care takes. It's literally the same time PER SURVIVOR as getting someone else to heal me base, and with Resilience it's even slightly faster for me to heal myself if we want to go there. Don't get me wrong though, I appreciate the healing if you're here and going to help me, but you have to actually be there to heal me.

Now something that is also rarely covered is that Self-Care in a split team can also rob the killer of some potential pressure. Let's say that they are a stealth killer, with A Nurse's Calling, and they see me Self-Caring or you healing me. They down me because I can't get away in time because I didn't notice them. If you're there too, they can just slug me and chase you meaning the killer has even more pressure with two of us now removed from doing generator work, where as if I get done by myself, then there is a chance they will leave me. Especially if there is the threat of Decisive Strike. No this will not come up very often, but it's still something that I have had happen to me on both sides. I know full well the risks of using Self-Care against a majority of killers, and I take measures to ensure my safety while I do so.

It's also surprisingly easy to get, especially since Claudette and Dwight are two of the best characters for a brand new player to start with, or at least those are the two that I recommend in a heartbeat. Claudette is base game, where as Nancy is locked behind a paywall of the Stranger Things DLC or Auric Cells, or the luck of the draw with the Shrine of Secrets. Med-kits are tied to the Bloodweb, and for anyone who knows about cycling them for specific perks/add-ons/items can tell you, "consistency" is not a word that the Entity knows.

I'm not here to convince anyone to switch to Self-Care as a healing option, or say that it is objectively the best. Just that this is the how and why of my use of the perk. I don't expect to make any friends by saying all of this and I don't care either way. I'm not an immersive P3 Blendette that hides in a corner all match to heal, since I now main Yui who's also my only prestiged character, but just an average player in red ranks who likes to have two health states and unrestricted perks where possible. I can't trust anyone as is, and usually have a mentality of "I can do it just fine myself" in a variety of things, not just in game.

Use whatever perks you want, but don't demean, harass or make insulting remarks to people who use perks you don't like. If you think less of them, keep it to yourself. Nobody asked and nobody cares if you do.

I'll see you all in the fog.

    typical console survivor, puah!

(I'm joking, I love you <3, and nice post. Don't get upset over what other people say. You are allowed to be upset only against gen rushers! 🥕 - which, funnily enough, are also the people that cry when someone self cares)

  • I would suggest the height of the killer POV to change between normal and rushing mode:

while walking, the fov would be at an height matching his eyes, while while in rush mode it will lower, as if he was super leaning to run faster. This way obstacles are still easy to see when it’s bounce time, but he can still see things in loops while walking normally.

yesterday I played on The Map and I was keeping on losing survivors at the loop near the tv monitors because I couldn’t tell if they were going inside the monitor room or they kept running to the other set of stairs :/

1 2 3 4 5 6 … 21
