That's low.
Don't worry though, we'll make sure get another thread going
nah, let's not begin a game of attrition, mods have the power to simply close every thread they don't like, and there's nothing we can do about it. Of course it's not very elegant to close a thread that is so much well behaved and self moderated, but hey, at least it's a testament to the fact that they are starting to feel a bit unease to see a topic of broad complains always on the front page.
Let's simply acknowledge the threat, and keep on posting our awful experience on console - which is the in topic argument - just that.
For example, I played a bit more of survivors lately, and people were right: even if the frame rate is better than killer, there are plenty of times where the game stutters for the most stupid reason - Ruin being one of those, like @big_fellas just said before me.

But just a message from me, your friendly PC ally, I hope you guys get a playable game someday. No one should feel like the way they enjoy the game is sub optimal and lesser to another way.
nope.
I'm updating the first post anyway with new updates.
Yes, what you see in the first post are all the updates we have.

OoO would never be like it is if it came out today. It's an extremely powerful perk in good hands and a obnoxious and un-fun perk to go against in a swf team. Right now when a killer see a OoO at the start of the game he sighs just like survivors do when they see a hidden offering by the killer.
Without completely changing how OoO works, there could be two possible reworks that follow the current perk philosophy: if it can be very strong, introduce a cooldown (surge, thrilling tremors, I'm all ears, trail of torment, dragon's grip...).
The perk would then state as follows:
If you are looking in the Killer's direction, your link will reveal your Auras to each other.
This effect applies only if you are outside of the Killer's Terror Radius and the killer is not Undetectable.
The effect will activate for 6 seconds.
As the Killer's Obsession, this effect applies to a maximum range of 56/64/72 metres. Otherwise, it applies to a maximum range of 44/56/64 metres.
OoO has a cool-down of 60/50/40 seconds every time it activates
(The times that I've picked are taken 1:1 from I'm All Ears, they can change, but the concept would still remain this)
The result of these 3 changes are that OoO is still remaining a valuable perk, but it cannot be used to constantly harass the killer.

This video is way more accurate since it was based of a normal console and not the Pro version
BTW this video is also 10 MONTHS old
yeah, that's already more like it, but I really think the performance is even worse now.

Frame rates got a lot worse since then.
EDIT: ok, I watched it. The video makes no sense right now.
EDIT2: I'll probably try to play a Doc game of Red Forrest tomorrow on stream, so that you can see how it is now (which anyway is proof that something broke along the patches this past year, instead of being optimised)

I like how some newer threads are getting replies from devs or such, yet still they have yet to respond back here
when I first opened this thread I understood why they weren't answering: the tech team needed to take a look at how things degraded, understand what was wrong and then take action.
Now things are different, and I would say alarming:
enough time has passed for the tech team to at the very least realise that yes, something is wrong, and yes, they can (and need to) work on fixing it.
However, there hasn't yet been any update on the matter by the community management team. When Community Managers don't give updates on things like this is because there are no updates, simple as that. And if there are no updates it means that, as of right now, the tech team is not working on fixing things.
They are allegedly working on optimising the graphical update, which is a good thing of course, but it's far from enough - even admitting that the two new maps will have better performance than the older ones (and that's a veeeeery long stretch, but who knows), it doesn't change the fact that we will still be screwed on every other situation.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!!
Don't forget that the maps where we struggle the most are maps like Larry's, Hawkins or the Silent Hill one, especially with killers like Oni, Pyramid Head, Deathslinger, Demogorgon, the Doctor...
What's the common denominator here? They are all NEW CONTENT, and there's no way that these maps/killers will get a rework/optimisation pass before all the older killers/maps get a graphical update / killer power rework.
In other words, I'm extremely pessimistic right now.
-
@SpookySZN said:
Have the devs mentioned anything about the upcoming patch doing anything in regards to playing as killers like Demo and Pyramid? Jesus Christ its literally pointless to even play as them because the frame rate drops so hard..
no.
they just said that they took special care for the graphic update on console.
what this special care is in anybody's guess. It could be a big 🖕 emoji at the center of the screen when console players get a new map, as far as we know.
and there's no update on any other frame rate improvement whatsoever anyway.

It was always Unreal 4 it was a different version of U4 tho don't confuse the 2.
I never talked about unreal 3/4, I just said that they updated the engine, and they did (and they are keeping on doing it, btw). Even if it wasn't a major revision (like the upcoming 4 → 5), it still was a revision that changed stuff.
Game Engines get updated regularly, and even in minor revisions things break / performance changes / new features are added and older features get changed/removed.

They confirmed on twitter that optimisation was coming for consoles in the upcoming graphic update.
that's not what they said. They said that the new graphical update needs special care for console, which doesn't mean frames will be better - in fact they might easily be worse than they are now, they can still say that "without the special care" it would have been even worse.
-
since the thread is now so long, I decided to update the first post with only official communication from BHVR, no speculations or anything.
If anybody gets any more public update on the matter and I haven't posted it on the front page, give me an @ or contact me on discord!
-
I remember when they updated the engine, the one update which completely broke sounds and introduced bad illumination on a lot of maps (like haddonfield). I was so happy, since it really appeared that the main reason why there were frame rates issues was that they were on an old engine and they couldn't really work on it.
And for a couple of patches framerate did improve!
Now it's worse than ever :|, and they don't know / don't care. I'm sorry to say that since it's now impossible they don't know, the latter is obviously true: they don't care.
But again, surely the new patch will improve our experience! Can't wait!

They have acknowledged the FPS issue on console. Although it's been like what, two years or so since the game released on console and they have still done nothing about it.
https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/RQVUYDWX5JPP/screenshot-20200826-231129-com-android-chrome.jpg
as I said in my reply before yours, they acknowledged the thread (not the issue), and passed it on the Dev team, that would take a look at it* (*the thread)
We currently don't know:
- if the dev team actually looked at it
- if they think there is an issue to solve
- if they want to solve it
- if they are able to solve it
- when they'll solve it
that's plenty of questions unanswered.

At this point I have already give up having more than 40 FPS on my matches. They could at least delete indoor maps from consoles, because they are utterly disgusting to play right now. Playing as Oni on Hawkin's with 15 FPS against PC survivors who probably have 60 FPS has been one of the most infuriating experiences I've ever had with this game.
There is a thread asking for optimization that probably has more than 500 comments right now and it has stayed on the first page of this forum for weeks, but all the devs can say is that "they are looking into it" without giving a damn date. They promised it more than a year ago, but if anything the game gets WORSE after every update.
actually, they said "we sent this thread to the tech team", but they never actually acknowledged the current situation, not publicly.
Just for a full disclosure.

Wrong I exclusively play on Xbox. Try again
Ok I'll try again: you play only (or mainly) survivor.
If I'm wrong again there are two possibilities:
1- you are masochistic, if you are ok with how things are
2- you are lying
EDIT: just to be a little less tranchant. You are not the only person with a bit of knowledge in Game Dev, you know, but even if you were you would be missing the point that this is not just a problem of game tech development, but also (and probably mostly) a problem of communication management.
BHVR announced that consoles would get 60 fps, and they announced it more than 1 year ago. Now, I didn't believe it for one second, exactly because we know how development goes, and the only way to more than double the current performance was to basically rebuild the game from scratch. There are obviously too many dependancies in their code for it to be that optimised without this work.
However, when you, as a Dev, announce stuff like that, at the very least you cannot make performance WORSE (actually: much worse) as time goes by.
If you don't see the problem, and you don't see how this needs to be fixed, no matter what, you are a bad developer (and this time I'm talking about you, since you are excusing the current situation. At least BHVR is silent, they are not saying "it's fine as it is. Here, new content instead") firstly, and a very bad consumer secondly.

Not so simple. Again engine tweaks are time consuming and expensive. Hell, even console updates can be costly and they do those regularly. Many games can’t or won’t- go ask thefunpimps. That’s my whole point, what is being asked is neither easy or simple to accomplish, and I see no reason for bhvr to stop everything they’re doing, which would neglect their original platform, until the problem gets fixed. If it even will, frankly. Some realism needs to be factored in to the situation and making it out like the devs can clearly resolve this issue just because you see a steady stream of new content, well those are separate things and they’re not as cleanly connected as many people seem to think. I’m not joking, I just have a healthy understanding of how game design tends to work. They’re doing better than many others out there.
you don't see a reason why BHVR should stop adding bugs and fix console framerate instead because you don't play on console.
Thanks for the feedback anyway.

Bump. Lets keep going on metacritic. Maybe if a new source reports on this we can get more responses
one thing about this "metacritic bombing".. I understand the reasoning, I understand that leaving a bad rating at the current DbD is actually the correct thing to do, since it's now borderline unplayable, especially with certain killers, but.
But actively promoting this is not elegant, I don't even know if it's within the rules of the board, and you are exposing yourself (and, most importantly, the thread) to sanctions. I don't want to see this thread closed because of something that won't really help us in any way so...
Please refrain from promoting it any further in this thread. If you want, open another one and do it there (at your own risk, though).
Again, no hard feelings or anything, but this thread is a monument to how bad BHVR is currently working on console, let's have it going.

Yes the aim dressing is so annoying and unfair. What makes it even more annoying is when the survivor is so bad at pathing and looping that they would go down in 15 seconds or so but because they know how to exploit the aim dressing they get undeserved second chances every game. The FPS makes that even worse.
at least now these kind of console players are getting demolished against pc killers.
..I hate survivors. 🥕

clearly you never played [side I'm defending], otherwise you would know that [things OP you mentioned] is effective only against noobs, you just need to [do bones / do gens / don't tunnel / pressure gens / play fortnite] and that is completely countered.
Maybe instead of [crying on a forum / blaming Devs / asking for nerfs] you should [ask for nerfs / cry on a forum / blame Devs], and stop being a [baby killer / entitled survivor].

I don't understand the break pallets fps drops... from what I saw it doesn't seem like a whole fps drop, it's just the pallet breaking that goes at very low fps (or, in other words, the pieces of the pallet/door teleport instead of smoothly moving). I might be wrong though.

the host is a dedicated server right now, so it's just your latency to the server.

I can only speak for myself but I see a lot of other PC players saying the same thing. Most of the console survivors I go against, SWF or solo tend to play way more stealthy and less aggressive than most PC players are used to. So I think that add to the feeling of being more laid back and chill.
In reality this drives me up the wall though, I hate playing hide and seek and would rather play and actual game than a 10 minute hide n seek when its down to the last two blendettes on Midwich when neither are working on gens just waiting for the other to die to try and get hatch.
meh, I'm finding the complete opposite to be true, PC players that as soon as their spine chills lights up just hide and/or run directly to Narnia.

It'll really help the team consolidate all the issues and optimize the game further.“
Thank you again for your patience and understanding regarding this matter.
Stay safe out there...
The Dead by Daylight Team"
I don't like to jump to conclusions but this is great news!
if you remember, I did send a support ticket a long while ago. I didn't post the complete answer here, but since you did, here's mine:
"I'm really sorry for the trouble with FPS issues,
The team has been made aware of this issue and they're currently working on a fix for it. We hope to have it resolved in an upcoming patch. Please do consider sharing more information where you're having FPS issues by making a post here: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/categories/optimization

It is exactly the same answer. I highlighted in bold the only difference: in my case, the agent replied that the team "has been made aware", while in your case it is "they are aware".
So what we get from this is that they get a lot of complains about fps, so much so that they just use a template (1), and that they changed the template recently (2).
I really can't say if this is encouraging or not. I mean, we already knew Devs have been made aware and that they hope for an upcoming patch to fix the issue. Maybe next template won't have "they hope" but "they are praying the Aztec Gods for a fix", I dunno.

Quick question to ask, how is everyone coping with PC players on much better frames?
I'm on PS4, even on my frames they spin so smoothly, it's been pretty hard to hit them. Ive barely missed any swings despite that tho.
Versed some really good nurses.
Having to insta DC on Lerys and having to restart app every 2 games (i play slinger, very frame reliant).
In my experience PC players don’t juke very well, or at the very least they turn more “smoothly”, however they gen rush as if their life depends on it and they loop extremely optimally. The gen rush is the real problem though, for me.

If we keep getting ignored, and don't get a proper answer soon maybe we should try some sort of organised attempt to get console players + pc sympathisers to stop buying auric cells. Flood the forums, the subreddit, the discord, playstation community groups and its equivalents, social media groups, the fog whisperers' streams, the dev streams, the inboxes of everyone we play with or against etc etc
It could just fail but maybe something to consider if nothing works.
it would never work out.
In fact, it would be easier if we just started coding our DbD rip off, with black jake and hooked blendette.
-
don't you dare blame pasta!

there's no real way we can make our fps problem more public than it already is, and there's no amount of artificial backlash possible that will help us - either Devs do care, and they will try to fix it as things are now, or they don't care, and the only way to make them change their mind is if they see a drop in income from console of... what, 50%? more?
But that's just fantasy, the vast majority of console players play survivor anyway, which don't suffer from (huge) fps drops, and even if it did they would still buy cosmetics as they are doing right now so... what is left is just being present and vocal.
I'm confident that by the time PlayStation 7 is released we'll have a decent frame rate.
-
@Cutiaddu said:
So did devs say something about this? Or are we still waiting an answer?
the only two official answers we got right now are:
- from a support ticket (not public, but the ticket was mine) - a support representative assured me that the Dev Team knows about the issue and that they need to get on it IF the game is so unplayable.
- from @PatBrutal , she said that this topic has been forwarded to the Dev Team.
So right now we have no idea:
- if they deem the issue serious or not
- if it's serious, if fixing it is a real priority (like: "we won't work on anything until this is fixed" - ahahah)
- if it's a real priority, if they are currently working on it
- if they are currently working on it, if they have an E.T.A.
- if they have an E.T.A., what this E.T.A. is :P
So, on a scale from Socrates (I know that I don't know) to tru3ta1ent (which knows everything ever, existing and fictional all the same), I would say we are currently at a John Snow level (we know nothing).

Is this sometimes happening because of the fps people are talking about in here or is it a issue on my end like my connection, console (etc)?
no, it's a real thing that happens to everyone: when a new status effect is triggered in your client, you will lag. Sometimes it's very noticeable, sometimes it's not. But it's a problem on how their system works behind the scene, not a connection problem
-
I can't wait to play at 5 fps.

EDIT: apparently @UseTheValve says it won't be the case, and the new maps are the best performing. If that will be the case on console as well, I'll eat a full vial of putrid serum.
-
How do you deal with gen-rushing then? If it's an organised squad, I can't. That just comes with not playing highly mobile killers.
The problem with DS/unbreakable/BT is all here. If a team doesn't gen rush, then you can play fairly, otherwise... you have to deal with these perks eventually. The alternative is hooking a total of 8 survivors and still nobody dies by the end of the game :P

So I registered just to post here on this topic (see username).
Let me preface this by saying that I own all DLC on PS4 and had maxed out 9 killers and 2 survivors with all teachables. Quite a bit of money and time spent on DBD over the last couple of years.
I love DBD concept and gameplay and it was my main game for a long time. When I get time off work and not spending it my toddler, I play DBD.
Over the last month I started playing less and less because of the horrible performance on PS4. Just walking around as killer is jittery and laggy. Any action or chase drops my FPS even further to 5-10 range.
Killer is unplayable on all maps and using Blight outfits causes FPS to plummet even further. Especially bad with Demogorgon on Hawkins & Lerys.
As much as I would hate to waste all of the game progress I will not spend another dime on this game until the performance is fixed. I have a launch PS4 and other visually stunning games and massive multiplayer shooters play just fine. Please fix it asap, it's insulting to those of us that spent a bunch of money on something that ended up unplayable.
tnx for coming by and sharing your experience.
To be honest, I was surprised that a topic like this wasn't already always on the front page of this board, considering for how long we were promised "console optimisation". I guess the fact that now we are facing the exact opposite of optimisation was the last straw.
