Guys let's be real
With the new update for the next gen consoles around the corner, they won't touch current gen FPS
then I guess this topic will stay on the first page for at least another 4 months :P

efficiency wise, self care is very slightly better than being healed up by another survivor, when we think about repairing a gen from 0 to 100%: it takes 3 more seconds if a team mate heals you up (plus the eventual time to get on the gen after the heal) compared to self caring and then helping your team mate.
However, the problem with self care is nurse's calling and the fact that the killer has double the time to reach your area and find you still injured.
I used to love survivors using self-care as a killer, but that was probably because I was running nurse's calling a lot. Now I prefer survivors that don't run it.
(we're still talking about solo queues of course. swf is a cheat and self care doesn't matter 🥕)

i have some friends who encourage me to climb on my ps4 account. Then there's this lol...
if you have both a ps4 and a pc dbd I think it's a no brainer where you should play.
If you only have a ps4... well, there's free Fail Guys with the Plus this month!

Ok so i haven't been playing DBD that long about 3 and a half months I think. I really do love the game I play on xbox as I don't have a gaming pc. One thing I am finding tho on here is all the hate from pc players against console players and vice a versa. Why?? Why is there so much toxic chatter between the two? I mean i fully accept that PC rank 1s will be far better due to frame rates and also due to the fact this game was first released on PC and then eventually onto console, so PC plays have far more time in the actual game.
The toxicity is almost as bad as that between killer mains and survivor mains.
because pc players have always thought they were much stronger than console players, but now that the opposite has been demonstrated to be true (aside for nurse/huntress killers, of course) they are so upset that they try to rewrite the reality.

Regarding your TLDR: Bring it on. I love fun matches!
(I had a Killer match last night with three fellow PC players and one survivor with the globe icon. The cross-platform survivor gave me the most trouble that time, and even escaped at the end. The three fellow PC players fed the entity.)

I agree that there's actually no guarantee that the current version would run smoothly on new consoles, but even worse than that there's the detail that in order to make dbd desirable for new players on new hardware a huge graphic update would be needed, basically removing any head start the increased processing power would have on performance.
Then again, they obviously have data that we do not have, and if people are throwing money at them with cosmetics and dlc even with the current performance... we are screwed :P.

@ExcelSword said:
I'll start this off by quickly addressing console killers. The latest patch has really poor framerate for you that drops below 30fps, so I understand if you opt out of crossplay, this post isn't for you.
But for you survivors, please give crossplay a chance. you are NOT at a huge disadvantage going against PC killers.
With a controller and relatively stable framerate, you have near the same skill floors and ceilings as PC survivors. I play survivor on PC with a controller and can handle it just fine, and I was an Xbox/PS4 player for two years before moving on to PC. All the mindgames you can learn are still there, M/KB doesnt give an innate advatage to PC survivors.
Yes, you will see more killers like Nurse or Huntress, and no you wont't be getting away with as many 360 spins as you used to. But that doesn't mean you are disadvantaged, You aren't trying to throw a hatchet at the Huntress before she does the same to you, the killer using a M/KB doesn't affect your ability to loop or your game sense.
I know most of you are good players, since I was there with you. Crossplay is great for this games activity and playerbase, quick matches and more variety of killers. Please, don't be turned off by 5k hour Nurse horror stories. We PC survivors have to deal with them as well, and we keep playing this game. Calling for blocks with PC will hinder all the effort crossplay is trying to achieve in the first place.
I haven't read any replies, I just want to leave my thoughts as a console player which right now usually play killer but spent a loooot of hours playing survivors as well:
there is no downsides in crossplay, game play wise, not for killer, not for survivors. The reason is that this is an asymmetrical game and survivors have a decent frame rate on console, meaning that
- having a mouse and keyboard is really useful only for the killers - but since they won't face other killers that advantage is completely lost on the inherent game design
- console killers will struggle to face 360s in the same exact way
In fact I will possibly be unpopular when I say that console killers will have an easier time against pc survivors, and let me elaborate on this:
console killers are used to face every possible juke available in the game, because console survivors learned to exploit our awful framerate to their advantage. They don't even have to know that this is the case, they just know that moving quickly left and right and/or 360ing is more often than not absolutely enough to literally disappear from the killer POV. This is something that PC survivors are not usually doing because it just doesn't work when the killer has a decent frame rate.
So what did console killer learn, to face this kind of survivors? Looping, mind-gaming and pathing - which are the same things that PC survivors learned to try and escape a killer. And it all comes down to this: if PC survivors are not trying to juke you at every corner (and, from what I saw today, that's exactly what is not happening), we can track them much, much more easily.
Console survivors on the other hand will need to (finally) learn how to properly optimise the tiles instead of relying on senseless jukes, which again is absolutely possible without mouse and keyboard and with console frame rate.
I'm confident devs won't go back on their decision this time.
TL;DR - from a console player POV, cross play is good and we're gonna kick your ass, dirty PC peasants 😎🥕

@Seanzu said:
I've seen far too many people in threads, or making threads saying "PC Players Are XXXX" In a negative way, this is an issue, don't just assume it's PC players being awful, we're all cut from the same cloth, we're all awful at times, but pinning it all on one side because Cross-Play is active is kind of naive.
With that being said I hope you all at least give it a chance without assuming the worst will happen
don't worry, I go farther than that:
if I see a world icon I immediately call out a toxic full PC swf 🥕😎
/s
anyway, I might be wrong but I think PC players are the biggest slice of the player base. Considering that you need to remove the same console from the equation (because they wouldn't have the world icon), assuming every world icon is a PC player will be wrong what, 20% of the time? Good enough for me 🕺
-
for now the only downside that I'm finding with crossplay is that I can't send "gg" at the end of the game if they are not on ps4 :(
Other than that, from what I saw as a killer, survivors play the same: pc survivors are better at pathing and looping, console players are better at juking - but that's just because they are used to killers with very low frame rates and exploit that, while pc survivors learned to escape killers in a very different way (which is much more "relaxing" for me)
-
on another topic: today I tried a bit of cross play and I gotta say: PS4 survivors play the same, if not better, than PC players, from the little that I saw. To be more precise, console players seem better at juking, while PC players seem better at pathing and looping.
In fact, PS4 survivors 360s are much, much more difficult to face than PC ones - console players know how to make a killer struggle due to the low frame rate (even if they don't play killer, they just learned that something worked), while PC players know that moving left and right is often just a waste of time, making our lives much easier.
...also pc players are much more toxic :D - they really, REALLY love to tbag at exit gates for some reason lol.

(Disappointed PS4 player since June 2017 here)
While it is true that @PatBrutal reply doesn't say if and when our issues will be solved, I don't think this is merely a ok, we know there's this thread. Tech Devs have better things to do than read posts on the forum (especially mine lol), so if the thread has been passed along I have to assume it's because there are some information here that will be useful for them - may it be a mere "console players are actually struggling guys, you need to do something".
I understand that we were promised a lot and we got close to nothing, performance wise, but again, here there's probably some bug behind the scenes that plummeted our fps. I think they can fix it.

it will be interesting to understand how opting out/in from crossplay will affect queue times. Also it will be interesting to see if cross play will be enabled by default or not - if it's the latter, I can imagine the vast majority of console players won't even know that crossplay is a possibility :P
-
following the twit about the MMR being disabled I can imagine the next one:
"At 10 AM ET tomorrow, the online features of Dead by Daylight on every console will be disabled. You will still be able to access the store to buy cosmetics and DLC and the single-player tutorial. We made this decision following reports, data gathered and, most importantly, we didn't want to send a reply on the topic BHVR CAN WE ACKNOWLEDGE FPS ON CONSOLE IS AWFUL SINCE 4.1.0?"

Just to let fellow console players know, if you enjoy getting 10 FPS every time you get hit with sloppy, or get bloodlust, hope you enjoy the release of cross play where you verse PC players that get consistent frames

So I'm leaving for college soon, and want to be able to play DBD while I'm there. The problem is that my Xbox, which is where I mainly played the game, will have to stay back home. So now I only have my Switch to play the game on (I do have a laptop, but it can barely run the game on the lowest settings).
I'm thinking about getting the Switch version of the game, but I've heard that it has some issues relating to performance. Specifically with it having poor framerates and downgraded graphics.
To those who have played the Switch version, how bad are these issues and the performance of the game in general
Since 4.1.0 it’s unplayable, don’t buy it for now, check this thread: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/179630/bhvr-can-we-acknowledge-fps-on-console-is-awful-since-4-1-0#latest

I wonder how well survivors would actually do if the frames got fixed.
I know there are some really good players out there, but I'm pretty sure some players wouldn't be so "godlike" were the frames fixed and auto aim removed.
Christ, I hate auto aim
oh I'm very curious as well.
The vast majority of good survivors on console rely almost exclusively on 360s and similar juking, with only a minor attention to pathing and looping.
Remove the teleporting survivors from the game, make the 360 more counterable → survivors need to learn how to actually play :P
It's similar to how survivors counter Nurse on console - just stereotyped movements, which are very easy to counter/predict with a mouse, extremely difficult to do that on a controller (...with low frame rate...).
In a few days, with cross play enabled, there will be tears.

I'm sure majority of PS4 streamers know how awful it is. Showstopper, Crazyredboy, SuperAlf etc all know about it I think.
Looking back through some of showstoppers Vods bring up another interesting point. Some skins (mainly on killer) can drop the frames by a landslide. I'm not going to name exactly which skins as I don't know if that's classed as an exploit, but majority of them are on spirit.
usually the big drop is from the killer perspective, at least that's what I found - but then again, I play mostly killer, so I dunno.

Anyway: new news
After telling to the support team that I did open a thread 10 days ago, they replied again. They assured me that they will personally "follow" the problem, that the devs are aware of it but that if the problem is so strong, they need to get on it.
All in all I really loved this new answer, much more committed than the previous one.
However, we're still lacking a real timeframe. And a public answer, to be honest :P.

I think Devs and especially Mods already have read this topic, the only reason why they are not replying is because they don't have an answer yet, so tagging them won't really be helpful imho.

Just looking out for my fellow console players 💜
that's true, but rules are there to avoid spam and bumping very old threads or threads that serve no purpose - I'm sure no mod will ban anyone if this thread gets bumped here and there, especially considering there's a lot of interest around this topic.
I mean, the whole console community is affected by this.
This being said, I have a news:
when I opened this thread I also sent a ticket to the dbd support. Today I received an answer (from a human, don't worry :P). It's still very vague and it could mean anything, but I will copy the relevant part:
"The team has been made aware of this issue and they're currently working on a fix for it. We hope to have it resolved in an upcoming patch"
Now, what I get from this answer is that devs have been made aware (meaning that they weren't?) and that they don't know if and when this will be fixed ("hope" → don't know if || "an upcoming patch" → don't know when). Then they added that I should have posted on the optimisation board, which is funny since I did 10 days ago :P, but whatever.
-
Sure not having an answer after 3 days is bad, but not as bad as not having one after 10 days!
@Nobsyde said:
After 4.1.0, the fps performance is really awful when playing killer. The biggest drop in performance seems to happen when at least a survivor is on screen, not sure if while in a chase or just "nearby" is enough.
I can send you a video but the reality of things is that there is no explicit fps on screen, so what I would suggest you to do, BHVR, is simply to turn on your PS4 and play as a killer, whatever killer honestly.
EDIT: just to be perfectly clear, I know you'd like much more "specific" infos like "which map / which killer / doing what..." but the most specific I can be is this:
fps performance feels (much) worse than before (patch 4.0.0) when playing killer and a survivor is on screen - no matter the killer, no matter the map. The performance drop is present also in other scenarios, but this is the "easiest" to consider.
-
little update:
I saw that @Gay Myers (Luzi) is giving updates on certain topics in regards of MMR not working as intended (surprised pikachu!).
Maybe the next topic they will answer will be the console current status? Here's hoping...

@EvilJoshy said:
I wonder if this is BHVR's reaction to this post.
"Does FPS suck on consoles? Yes it does. Are we going to do anything about it, no"
lol
Tbh I would gladly get this kind of answer instead of no answer at all.
What I think is that the upcoming graphical update is tailored with PS5 in mind - it will still work on PS4, but with awful frame rate, and that's why they are not that aware and/or caring about the current PS4 performance.
The same goes for xbox, while for Switch... whatever, maybe they didn't sell enough there, and they are ok to have the community die there?
That's just speculation of course, but honestly, who can think that this:
or this
can give us decent frame rate, when currently we struggle so much with this:
?

Yes. You did read that title correctly.
Before the latest patch throwing bottles did not remove stacks of PWYF. Now they do.
Because with gen times at an all time low, moris and keys still in the game, almost all perks being bad, most maps being either decent or terrible, and survivors randomly making no sounds whatsoever, Clown clearly needed to be nerfed.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to down a gallon of bleach.
IMHO it's a bug - Devs said time and time again that if something is not explicit in the patch notes it's usually unintended.
You should open a thread on the Bug Report subforum.

Very simply put: If you have to wait for the killer's response (who is hosting the game), then this will also lead to problems on the survivors' side.
that's not true, but again, I don't want to debate this, you are off topic, here we talk only about how 4.1.0 destroyed the performance compared to 4.0.0.

Performance got a little better for a very short time. That was when the dedicated servers got activated and had nothing to do with the game getting optimized.
(When dedicated servers are doing calculations instead of your own console, then this gives your console more room to do other calculations, which leads to a better performance.)
nah, game got better even for survivors, and survivors were never the server in the first place.
Again, I don't see the point in trying and rewrite history, it doesn't matter: what matters is that now performance dropped from one patch to the next, and this needs to be reverted. We can go back and talk about optimisation after at least we get a fix for the current situation.
EDIT: the reason why I don't want to stay here and talk about speculative stuff or rewriting history is because Devs have a habit to respond to only what they know they can easily fact check (for example, instead of addressing the Elementary School Map bad design, they decided to answer a guy who misquoted one of their leaders) - don't give them a hand to juke the main topic ;).

@NoShinyPony said:

Players have been asking for console optimization for years and nothing happened. The devs have been aware of at least some problems for ages - for example, they acknowledged in a stream that frame drops occur when a new status gets applied (like Mangled). By now, the problems are even more severe.
No improvements in all this time. They made a sub-forum for optimization reports half a year ago, but did anything happen?
But console performance got better, for a little while!
Let’s not rewrite history here: as bad as framerate was, it still was better than how it was before. The problem is that now everything plummeted, and this is probably the worst iteration of dbd, performance wise,
-

I agree with this. I once posted a topic about being able to opt out of Bloodlust if you’d like as Killer because my frames drop dramatically once it activates and got PC players telling me that console frames aren’t bad. I love being told that my experiences are not real or true.
yes, I absolutely feel you. I get so scared of bloodlust activating while I'm going for a hit, it will be a 100% miss :(
