That's interesting. May I ask, how do you know this? As far as I am aware there isn't a lot of information about how this works. Also, are you sure the second and third factors are calculated that way? That looks a bit weird, considering that the positive efficiency parameters are added into one factor.

It would make more sense to me, if both of these these were added in the same factor again (like Resilience and PTY). Then you'd have one factor that is the value for survivor efficiency and one for penalties. It's just so aesthetically unpleasing. πŸ€”

imagine if increased repair speeds were calculated multiplicatively too. idk about aesthetics but repair speed slows being additive doesn't sound very fun, full stack thana penti and 7 stacks of dying light would make survivors repair for 0.3 charges a second.

  • while working on a gen, every other survivor 4 meters near you gives you 10 percent stacking repair speed. doesn't matter who has the perk, everyone gets the buff as long as they are near the user.

  • it makes survs louder but i'd like to see something like wesker and singularity's infections, more infections empower their abilities even further (lower cd for wesker and longer overclock for larry). idk how nemesis' tentacle can be buffed with extra infections though, can't be too big of an effect since getting rid of injections isn't hard at all.

I have this wild idea that winning should be rewarded and incentivized so players wouldn't see intentionally losing a match as trivial and meaningless. Then you might have players in the teamwork role working together towards a common goal and making the experience more enjoyable for everyone. Call me crazy...

winning as a team? nah, people will stick to sole survivor and distortion. there is nothing saying they lost the match if they escape, they get their mMr, they get their bloodpoints, hell they even get to bm the killer.

  • swfs have the option and ability to form a team of good players and have communication. that's a big and clear advantage. a swf team of 2 or even 1 below average players won't be too much of a challenge.

I'm so sorry, but... Sometimes this sentence just doesn't work, when a grown "a" man behave like that in a video game.

Or maybe they are an actual kids, I don't know. Either way, embarrassing behaviour. Don't do that survivors, don't be an "holes".

Play the game fair, don't violate the game's rules.

sorry not sorry, if you do such bs in a game you are a scumbag in real life also.

  • that's exploiting, hacking involves third party programs. you should always report in game which doesn't take any time, and on bhvr's website if you feel like bothering with it. they take this bug seriously so i think they will ban these people.

  • i don't think such a perk can be balanced properly. it will either be very oppressive or a waste of time like current mori offerings.

Too much work apparently. I play both sides naturally because I get bored of playing one role too often and it helped me realize stuff like MfT having a huge effect on M1 killers and then a tiny effect on other killers which survivors focused their justifications on.

none of their justifications made sense defending that abomination honestly. everyone knew it destroyed m1s and did almost nothing to already top tier killers but they didn't care. they were having their fun looping wraiths and docs for 3 gens.

Genuinely crazy. Can't believe some people are defending it as well. But, then again, people defended Chess Merchant so it's just the same cycle.

people were defending mft, chess gameplay, eruption and old old dh so this isn't surprising in the slightest to me. i've never seen more delusional community than dbd's to think what's fun for them is fun for others as well, or they just don't care about other side's fun at all.

play both sides y'all and then you will have valid opinions.

  • for balance reasons they would go for such changes, but that doesn't seem like a good idea; punishing people for playing a video game with their friends that is. they might make them pick from a shared pool of perks but even that wouldn't solve most issues and doing anything harsher than that would push away swf players. as killer i'd be completely ok with at least some extra bp for facing swfs. i know i won't be winning against a 4 man that's playing serious, you know it, everyone knows it and it's not a big deal. this game isn't for people that's overly competitive, way too unbalanced for that.

The fact that we're reduced to complaining about Distortion of all perks after Made For This is actually a sign that the amount of truly problematic perks is getting smaller and we're slowly approaching something that vaguely ressembles balance (Scott did a recent video on that exact topic).

I'm honestly baffled that people aren't bearing down on FTP+Buckle Up instead (seriously though, just delete the synergy between the two perks at least in endgame) and are instead going after a perk that has a chance of being a wasted slot and that gets obliterated by Gearhead of all perks, not to mention that the perk doesn't give you extra health states nor does it make you better in chase. If a Survivor is bad in chase, Distortion won't help him.

i don't want to call people bad words but people don't read it really seems like. those aren't even complaints, distortion is complained about a lot recently, and i'm just saying it definitely isn't a top priority for a nerf it just needs slower token regen. that's it. it would make the perk actually perfectly fine, but i wouldn't give a damn if it's left untouched.

survivor perks are currently fine i agree, aside from the combo you mentioned of course.

  • 20 seconds of full invisibility and silence after getting unhooked so a targeted survivor can lose the killer.

soloq though... "new" mmr wasn't that bad i think, i mostly got really really good teammates. although we all need to understand the gap between soloq and swf will always be massive and the game shouldn't be balanced around swfs.

  • give plaything and trail a try. you can zone, but there is not much you can do if the spot they are in or the map allows pre-running like rpd and midwich.

    ohh that makes sense

This is my take on Healthy perk design.

Sole Survivor. At the start of the game, it does absolutely nothing. If the killer has aura perks, they'll get full value.

Now if the killer does alright and someone is sacrificed, now the perk begins to start working. And even with 1 survivor gone, 24m is quite a large radius to deny aura reading. SS is a guaranteed aura denial, unlike Distortion. Anti-snowball perk supremo!

Distortion is great right from the start, whether the killer has Lethal or not. You get info, info, info.

So while SS seems like a 'crap on your team' perk, it can be quite a bit more useful imo. It just does it better than Distortion imo.

To note, Distortion is a MUCH better info perk than aura denial imo.

I like to use SS + OoO to get chases early. If things get out of hand, OoO falls off when they are near and I have loads of fun/edge of my seat moments.

I feel perks to counter perks is perfectly fine and probably by design. There's no reason distortion can't protect from BBQ or Floods.

What are the 'few select strong aura reading perks'? I'm curious as to your thoughts :)

Or how about this: Distortion changes the aura reading into a single survivor notification for the killer, maybe even scattered 2d6m from the actual spot. This way killers would only get a general idea where you are and a snapshot, but no idea if your are loitering or moving or in what direction you are moving, with the caveat that Distortion players don't get total immunity in some matches, and get burned to the ground in the next.

I know that people HATE Ultimate Weapon, but I am still in the camp that people exaggerate its tracking effects. The perk gives you a snap shot where everyone is, but no further info. If you move into that direction you got a good chance to start some chase, but very often that survivor has moved away or went into hiding and thats a way more healthy effect then many people give it credit. Slight off-topic: if UW had a bit of increased range, but didn't linger around the killer for 30s and disabled in a 1v1 situation, I think it would be the perfectly fair tracking tool.

i didn't fully understand the suggestion but it probably would make aura reading a scream basically, idk.

i understand why UW needs nerfs, screams aren't as reliable as auras sure but just knowing whereabouts of a person is most of the time a huge info and having it linger 30 seconds is just funny to me. my go to change would be making it an instant trigger at a locker so every killer gets the same value, with 45 seconds cd.

  • @Akumakaji said:

Maybe a perk like Distortion could have some dynamic recharge rate? If a killer got a veritable aura reading build, yes they can easily burn through the stacks, but if all they brought was BBQ, they might as well play with 3 perks.

With Dynamic I mean, if you got only one aura reading perk, maybe Distortion shouldn't recharge at all or only slowly, while at 4 aura reading perks, things move along much faster. This would be a slight nerf to Distortions effectiveness, but would come with the added benefit of getting some info on the killers build and aura reading capabilities.

On the other hand: this is such a niche problem, maybe we should focus on something else.

On the other hand: this is such a niche problem, maybe we should focus on something else.

yup. never a high priority, just wanted to speak my mind on the current hot topic. distortion is not perfectly fine, but definitely not a broken perk of any sort. i couldn't care less if it stays the way it is, they need to resolve ratting issue and that's independent from stealth perks' strength/state.

Maybe a perk like Distortion could have some dynamic recharge rate? If a killer got a veritable aura reading build, yes they can easily burn through the stacks, but if all they brought was BBQ, they might as well play with 3 perks.

i'd be all for it if they removed stacks altogether and reduced the aura block time so only a few select strong aura reading perks can get value. you still get notified, and can play around them with lockers. this maybe could fix, again, its uneven effectiveness against different aura reading sources to some degree. spammable aura reads can eat stacks with ease but perks like bbq and floods can't.

bruh how is this a doomsday post? i literally say the real issue is rat playstyle and nerfing stealth perks won't solve it, the only issue with distortion is it recharges too fast.

There is no Distortion controversy going on.

    @Krazzik said:

I'm an avid Distortion enjoyer but I do think it recharges too easily. Being in the killer's terror radius isn't that tough, especially on smaller or multi-level maps, and unlike Stake Out it also charges while you're in chase as well.

What this essentially means is that you almost never run out of stacks, even if the killer is running multiple aura-reading perks, and that kinda defeats the purpose of even having stacks. In 90% of my games with Distortion, it's basically just perma-immunity to aura reading.

Outside of a small handful of killer addons and maybe one or two perks that can give constant aura-reading in certain situations, a killer simply can't burn through Distortion stacks faster than they recharge.

This is of course partially evened out by having plenty of games where Distortion does absolutely nothing, but I still think they need to slow down the recharge so it doesn't just make aura reading useless for killer.

that is ALL i'm trying to say, thank you. it might as well have no tokens at this point. i understand counterpicks, calm spirit doesn't even have stacks, but then it would need rebalancing with that in consideration like 7 seconds of aura block and no hidden scratch marks on proc so a very very few aura reading perks can still bypass distortion and the killer would need to pay extra attention while using those perks.

tokens serve no purpose because they are almost infinite unless killer wants to deliberately combat distortion with, as people said above, gearhead c21 etc.

edit: such a change would fix its uneven effectiveness against different aura reading also. while some perks/add ons can easily destroy distortion, some full aura reading builds struggle to go through tokens.

Is good stuff folks, very good answers I feel. 😁

Sorry to test you, but it's all these subtle interactions that are gonna need thinking about. My goal is pointing out all those odd little scenarios that I'm concerned this wave of Stealth backlash doesn't account for...

I'm all for targetting ratting, but I have growing concerns a lot of the discussions around stealth right now need to ensure these kinda points are factored in, and pushed to the front of the priorities list. 😁

these are constructive feedback and asking questions makes it only better, and devs definitely need to do something about this issue so hopefully such discussions make the solutions seem to them less "impossible" to implement. stealth is a core aspect of the game but so is teamwork, ratting is an issue and needs to be dealt with without harming overall stealth gameplay.

  • @Nazzzak said:

Having it activate/charge only in chase makes it redundant. If you're bringing an aura reading build, then making a survivor get into a chase before they can benefit from their aura blocking perk means the killer gets their cake and gets to eat it too. No need to find survivors the old fashioned way when they have to just come to you. It would kill the perk.

ofc chase time only recharging would require a serious buff to regen time i'd say halving it. 10-15 seconds of chase time and 30 seconds of gen repair for a token.

making a survivor get into a chase before they can benefit from their aura blocking perk

doesn't it initially have 3 tokens?

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/399757/the-grass-is-always-greener-i-guess

Predator (Wraiths scratch mark perk) is probably the worst thing you can run, it makes tracking harder not easier and should get changed in some way. It makes it so scratch marks don't spawn up structures anymore and can trick you into wrong pathing, this perk leggit gives you negative value meaning you are better off not running anything. Bloodhound is also really useless in that sense because if you know what you are doing you can see blood regardless, it only helps you if you are new to the game and have nothing better. Besides that you can usually track people people when they are injured by sound.

If survivors are running stealth builds, including calm spirit, then spies in the shadows won't work at all right? Because crows cannot get disturbed while running calm spirit? So this is kind of weird advice my man.

If the survivors immediatly go into hiding as soon as they hear your heartbeat, none of those perks are gonna help you... So you know with surveillance that they started progressing the gen again and you return, and they are gone already, so how does it help you? Same for thrilling, in the time it takes you to hook and go to that gen they can be on the other side of the map... Trapper is probably one of the worst killers in the game and Knight is one of the most unfun killers in the game, so I don't think recommending them really helps.

The issue is all those things you advice to use don't help you at all... They don't reveal stealthy survivors, all it does it make you go back to a gen and kick it again and waste a lot of time. Knowing they are on a gen does not help you, because you know that already, you just don't know where they are hiding...

    100% agree with all these.

here's a few pieces of advice i would give to people struggling against stealth:

play a stealth killer/run stealth perks yourself so you can surprise people.

run gen info perks instead like discordance tinkerer and surveillance *on a high mobility killer*

when approaching an area survivors can be around, look and clear escaping routes first, gradually narrowing the area.

if it's up to you and you know the survivor has distortion, don't trigger it so they don't get free hidden scratch marks.

try playing survivor in a similar fashion, so you have a better understanding on how a stealthy survivor would path.

try to understand and learn when and how much scratch marks fade away so you can take a guess how far around they can be.

almost 4k hours and i still don't have this skill, but pay attention to crows (doesn't work against calm spirit)

  • @finalgrrl said:

distortion is in a balanced place right now. you start with stacks, you have to be in the killers radius to regain them which prevents ratting in a corner. killers have such an arsenal of aura perks these days, distortion is the only valid reliable perk to combat it. if a killer is reliant on aura perks to track and make a kill, that sounds like a skill issue with game sense and map awareness. playing a healthy balance of both sides will help you gain better map awareness from the surv’s perspective and you won’t be so reliant on auras. you’ll develop a good hunch.

hiding within terror radius isn't any harder than hiding outside of it, let's be honest. distortion isn't op or anything, but it recharges a bit too fast, making it impossible to burn through stacks unless you specifically go for perks/add ons for it. if it's intended to counter auras completely, then it should be balanced around that like reduced aura block time and no hiding scratch marks idk. and for some unknown reason it recharging in chase unlike similar terror radius perks like stake out and pebble has always bugged me out, kind of takes away killers' counterplay option.

if a killer is reliant on aura perks to track and make a kill, that sounds like a skill issue with game sense and map awareness.

oh and i agree with that lmao i'm a shameless nwth abuser and finding people with that always feel super cheap, hence why i can't really complain about the strength of distortion. only poor innocent bbq only peeps are getting unfair treatment from the perk.

  • @Gabe_Soma said:

Distortion is an ALL-IN perk, similiar to Adrenaline.

You can either get full value of it if the killer is running aura reading perks, or get 0 value if they run 4 slowdown perks e.g.

You are acting as if everyone who uses it are rats and selfish, which has nothing to do with the perk. If someone want to be a rat, they would be regardless.

This is a classic overreacting rant situation.

This would be my route, however the problem is very difficult to manage, it would need extremely careful thought to ensure it built up fast enough to matter, and decay slow enough that you can't tap a gen or a totem periodically to avoid the build up but be long enough to not catch legit play.

This is why I say you have to be very careful about nerfing stealth, because it's quite easy to be too weak to make a difference, or catch legit play in the crossfire. How long should it be before it goes off? 2 minutes? 3 minutes? 5 minutes?

What constitutes being useful? Conspicuous actions for a time might be a good for the 2vs1.. but how long? And how long does someone need to do an action for it to be considered no longer hiding to prevent tapping?? 5s? 10s? 20s?

Does being in chase stop it? What about pre-running? What if I'm going for flashlight/pallet saves? Does being in the killer TR disable it? What about if I'm being head trap stealth stalked by a Pig? Or breaking LoS on Myers?

honestly i didn't think about numbers at all, but let's say you get 3 crows and killer instinct after 5 minutes of uselessness. cleansing dulls don't regress it at all, doing a gen/healing regresses it 3 or 5 times faster than it fills, and getting an unhook takes away 1/3 or even half of total progress since you need to be extra careful and sneaky for that. getting chased completely resets it.

the last paragraph is tough. pig trap stops it completely. pre running shouldn't fill it. idk about hovering for a save, hovering for 5 minutes straight should already tell you to stop and go do a gen instead i suppose lol or you can also get in a chase in the meantime so it gets reset. if a myers is trying to get stalk on you he already knows where you are, and you most likely aren't doing that peakaboo game for 5 mins straight.

  • of course fun is subjective so for me;

fun to play as: oni wesker nemesis demo

to play against: wesker blight huntress and most m1s.

  • they can improve afk crows. something like an invisible bar that fills as you stay useless and survs can recede it by doing gens healing (others) getting chased and unhooking. numbers should be rather extreme so actual valid stealth gameplay (especially in 3v1 or 2v1s) isn't punished.

  • main is hell for any killer except nemesis and alien, even for nurse. the window with the ramp is way too strong. but otherwise it's fine, i like its layout and shape. not too strong or weak.

  • this would also balance the hook states shared across distortion users and the rest. no chase for distortion gamer, then their auras start getting revealed. they get chased, but then they regain the tokens and can hide. i'd add gen progression as a requirement to token regeneration as a survivor player (at least they should be useful if they refuse to take aggro) but as a killer player chase time only seems tempting. in return the time required for a token should get lowered though.

such changes to the perk would be healthy, but if bhvr feels lazy they should AT LEAST make it not regain tokens both in terror radius and in chase, i think it currently does. it would make its working requirement match with stake out.

  • woo bridges the gap between good players and "bots". it's the maps that enable survivors to be "run-to-yellow-bots", and this is what needs the attention because without the perk the potential is still there.

  • stealth playstyle is really boring and doing it excessively gets teams killed more often than not but it's valid and people can play however they want at the end of the day. the thing is you can get distortion stacks for... just existing and that's an issue. it should regenerate tokens for getting chased and doing gens; being a human useful teammate.

  • any of chucky's perks being op... is a take i guess? obviously bait post but biting it whatever.

While I am not against this idea, I don't see how that would help Trapper all that much. How often do you manage to have survivors step into traps when you're not around? It doesn't happen very often because most good trap placements have either been removed or fixed. A survivor will not walk into a trap that they can see but when there are so few spots to hide them, then this really reduces Trapper to an area denial killer in which case more time to escape a trap doesn't help him.

trapper definitely needs more than that for sure, but buffing that kind of playstyle (?) would be neat, and useful at times. i generally go for surprise traps and people actually stepped in traps a lot outside of a chase. haven't really played him since mft's release and i'm not fully aware what spots they fixed other than places traps basically got buried and rpd's outside area so i don't really know how he feels now but it still shouldn't be impossible to hide traps unless it's gideon or eyrie.

  • @Xernoton said:

Nurse has quite the history of nerfs to be fair. Most of which you'll find here. She still needs further adjustments but claiming she hasn't been touched for 7 1/2 years is wrong.

For Trapper, I am genuinely curious, what you would like to buff about him. He already got some considerable buffs but it doesn't change the fact that his power is pretty bad. It doesn't work as the devs want it to work because setting up a trap where everyone will see it (becomes more of an issue with each new map and map rework because there are so few spots to even try and hide traps), will lead to survivors either disarming your power, in which case your power is to apply a little bit of slowdown but only for investing time that you don't have to begin with, slowing yourself down even more, or just avoid them.

Billy needs a lot more than just the removal of overheat. I mean, have you played him over the past couple months? The overheat doesn't hold you back as long as you don't play Drifking Billy (R.I.P. my beloved) and he has a million different issues that make him way worse to play. There have been a few Billy threads recently, so I won't go into too much detail here but he needs some adjustments to his collisions, the old animations and POV should be restored, his base speed during a chainsaw sprint should be slightly increased and the Engravings adjusted accordingly, Off-Brand Motor Oil should be base kit, his hitbox on survivors needs some adjustments and his addons need an overhaul. On top of removing the now pointless overheat mechanic.

i hate hag and trapper because they have to play territorial. for trapper a few guaranteed amount of attempts required to self escape would be nice or maybe even basekit honing stone and for hag very long tp range would solve the issue, imo.

  • the video would need some serious editing lmao. let's hope bhvr doesn't blame the "teamers" in such cases i suppose.
