I actually agree. I don't have all the Deep Rift outfits (missed two lots of them) yet I've survived just fine without them and will continue to do so. They were rewards for the folks putting the hours in.
I don't believe legality has anything to do with it though lol no one is suing over game cosmetics
-
I would assume it's games with extended periods of dying states with no hook or hook attempts

No, it's not. Words have definitions, bud. If you get rid of tunneling and slugging, you'll either have to giga-buff killers in literally every other way, or you'll have to nerf survivors drastically. Otherwise, the game will be dead in six months.
Plenty of players, myself included, play absolutely fine without tunnelling. So them removing those tactics matters little to me because they won't even affect my gameplay in the slightest. I've also said consistently for years now that when I play survivor I see a tunneller around every 10-12 games (outside of events). I dont play much survivor anymore, so maybe that's changed in recent times. Regardless, I do believe this strategy isn't as prevalent, or relied upon, as alot of people make it out to be.
I think most players who rely on those strats will actually find that, aside from the odd game here and there, they perform just fine too. These strats can mask the need for skill development, so maybe there will be a period of learning, but i can confirm it's not difficult. I do think if you watch alot of killer main content creators then it might seem like tunnelling is THE strat. But if you tune into some survivor main streams, you'll get a broader look into how the general killer community plays, and you'll see for yourself that most win just fine without the need for tunnelling. You'll see the killers who don't play for a living, so dont need to do things for view$. It's really not as dramatic as you're making it out to be.

I didn't really play much this event. I think maybe 300 total

The perk is fine for no mobility killers, but add it to a high mobility one and there's big problems.
Thats the main issue with dbd. perks that are alright with most killers are completly overpowered with killers that are A tier, the issue this creates is that the STRONG KILLERS become even STRONGER.
Sure, this can be said for a number of perks in the hands of high mobility killers. Forced Hesitation is easy to work around though once you know it's in play. I'll also add that Empathy is a staple in my builds, which makes avoiding FH even easier.
-
Its been a long time since I did it, but i think you do it on the opening screen and not the killer screen, if that makes sense

I'd like to ask them if they are planning on posting more frequently on BlueSky. Ideally, every thing they post on Twitter (in terms of announcements, codes, collabs, whatever) should be posted on BlueSky too but that's not always the case now.
Yes, this. I only joined Bluesky to follow DBD, so I dont miss out on news and codes etc. I don't use any other social media. It'd be great if they could share the same info across all their social media because Bluesky seems to miss out on alot.

To give you a bit of a sneak peak into the process… this took… way too long
First we needed to practice the timing, which was not easy since we needed to time the explosion of the fireworks of the up top balcony, and then delay the 2nd explosion to have the flash hit The Huntress. That took a couple days to perfect, how ever that was the easy part. The true hard part, was being able to get the Masquerade variation of Father Campbells Chapel. Which wouldn't be an issue.. if you could get it in custom matches. We needed to snipe each others lobbies, bring an offering for Asylum… and then hope we get Chapel instead of the Ward.
EDIT: Oh I also needed to give them Winter Party Starters since I was the only one with them.. yay!
Luckily were all hot and sexy and only needed 2 attempts of actually landing on Chapel and going for the screenshot. We almost gave up and settled with this, but we knew we could do better.

Ah yes, anything to continue not making playing survivor more appealing.
I wont deny my thoughts went there too lol but since they haven't confirmed it's being considered for anything other than 2v8 at this stage, I'm gonna reserve judgement on that side of things lol
-
Mine haven't been that bad. Probably 5min on weekdays (tolerable) and 10min (I'm not patient enough) on weekends. Over 15min is nuts.
They're planning to do a feature in the next 2v8 where you queue up as killer but can play survivor while you wait. It saves your spot in the killer queue. Could possibly be a trial for future normal matches if they can't get things to improve.
-
I think the perk is fine, as someone who plays both sides. They were salty because you countered their haste and flashlight saves, nothing more. I wouldn't give it much thought beyond that lol

The only perks I added were the PT and BNP change. Healing was nerfed as a buff to hit and run, a base kit playstyle.
Even if you cut the list in half, like you appear to be trying to, it's still a way, way longer and considerably more impactful list for killers.
ETA: I'll also mention that your response here is going into a lot of backpedaling to try and justify changes. There's no need, since you started with simply listing patches.
Oddly, you also had to inflate the survivor list with at least 2 changes that not only haven't happened yet, but we also have no details on.
Equally oddly, you felt it necessary to point out the "base kit unbreakable" that never made it live and they announced was never going to happen. Why didn't you then also include the "+8 seconds to healing" that they equally tested, but never put live. (I didn't include this either, because the answer is that doing so is disingenuous). Almost like you were stretching to make it look worse than the reality, which is way, way closer to my list.
I think your original list also missed that survivors get less distance after being hit (another 6.1 basekit nerf to survivors)

- Good luck with your 40 minute queue times when we all quit!

Having some punishment is fine, but that is not what I foresee happening.
People will continue to soft-quit. Other people will start calling for other avenues of quitting to be policed as well. We cannot police everything. We already saw that when given the chance, BHVR will start grabbing innocent players and banning them.
Changing attitudes of players isn't easy, but it can be done. Forcing them into matches that they don't want to be in may hide the issue for a while, but it won't fix the underlying causes.
Like we discussed, if you truly think that most players will DC or suicide at the drop of a hat, for no other reason than ego; well then there isn't really anything to be done, and the game is doomed no matter what course we pursue. If, instead, you believe that this "epidemic" is in fact, a culmination of different issues plaguing the game for some time, well, that would lend itself to my theory, which is that we can alleviate common areas of frustration.
"Other people will start calling for other avenues of quitting to be policed as well. We cannot police everything"
This is what it comes down to. To police these case by case scenarios, BHVR would have to hire more support staff (this costs time and money). Then, said staff would not only have to watch provided clips to try determine intent (this will also involve time spent shifting through videos not formatted correctly, aren't working, dont show much of anything etc) but mistakes will be made, players will dispute and they will be dealing with these players/cases longterm, all of which takes even more time.
They also won't ban first time offenders, because these are paying customers at the end of the day (and hey, they have a new Support staff who they now need to pay) but now they also need to have a system that puts marks on people's accounts.

Ragequitters should be handled the same way as hackers, because both groups of people are breaking game rules.
In both scenarios, there is no perfect solution. But the correct plan of action, is to keep trying, and keep improving on the detection algorithms.
According to your attitude, BHVR shouldn't try to punish hackers, because hackers are going to turn to anything else that lets them hack.
We seem to have gone really quickly from 'remove 4% so people will have to cop a DC penalty if they wanna leave' to 'the DC penalty isnt enough, they need to be banned'. It's only been like a month..

Ironically, go nexting was probably effective only because the stats couldn't differentiate legitimate kills from self-kills. DCs might be discarded entirely from KR balance as far as we know.
They are discarded. Games with DCs don't count towards any kill or escape rates.
-
I dont think anyone is against this, it's more that people think there are other matters that need addressing first. The devs acknowledged in the anniversary stream that they've spent alot of time addressing issues with killers and they need to focus a bit on survivor. And before someone points out that not every killer got changes, let's look at it realistically - there are currently 39 killers in the game. Changes take time and resources, have to be run through PTBs (and if feedback is bad have to be thrown back on the drawing board), plus they have limited bandwidth when it comes to updating the game, so they can't actually put through alot at once. If they continue to put their time and resources into killer changes, where would they fit in time to address survivor issues? And survivor absolutely needs to be thrown a bone, particularly solo queue.
-
Did we do the same survey? I felt it was very broad and non-specific to a particular role
-
The bots suck but ultimately it's not my problem if people choose to DC. There's a penalty, and only they know whether or not their reason for DCing was worth copping said penalty. It doesn't get much more thought from me beyond that.
-
I use one slowdown (Corrupt) and no regression. I mostly use chase perks as quick downs and hooks are my priority. My breaking gens milestone was at like step 8 by the time I finished my hooking survivors milestone. I find I just don't need the extra assistance in that area as the playstyle I've gravitated to (ie the one that naturally works for me) just doesnt need it. My biggest asset while playing killer is honestly my experience playing survivor, that helps more than any perk could. Diversifying my builds is something I've always done too because I honestly get bored playing the same stuff over and over anyway lol
-
I havent played much survivor so only just had my second game against him. Is it normal for him to hit me while facing another direction? I thought he was aiming for another survivor in that direction but then I got hit but he wasnt even looking at me... I was off to his left
-
IIRC Mathieu Cote (or one of the devs) said awhile ago that Disney are really easy to work with. When we've had Netflix pulling stunts with ST and Pinhead getting taken away, it's actually nice to see.

I havent noticed a difference. Maybe try Corrupt Intervention for a bit if you're struggling with early game? It synergises well with the spawning update

It decreases after 20 matches now. So if you get kicked again within your next 20 matches, it will be higher again.

If I'm killer and I get someone doing this, I usually slug them until bleedout or kill their 3 teammates, then bodyblock the hatch force them to do gens and power the gates before closing it and slugging them until bleedout.
You might be trying to go next to avoid the DC penalty but by god I will do everything in my power to ensure your gameplay experience is as miserable as possible so it's in essence about as fun as staring at the DC penalty timer.
You dont need to do all that. You're just reinforcing, in their mind, that their initial judgement about you and the game was correct, and their attempts to leave were justified.
The anti- go next feature means that the ones who run up to me at the start of the game get downed and hooked, and then they get to hang there and think for a bit. Most of the time, the next time I see them it's when I'm chasing them off a gen and the game carries on like normal. On a couple rare occasions, they seek me out after getting unhooked and I just ignore and go around them. Only once since the update have i left one on the ground so I could continue chasing their team mate without them in my face. They got the hint. It doesn't have to go any deeper than that.
I do think, ultimately, that people who are over the survivor role just need to stop playing it. Why make yourself and others miserable? I play survivor only for survivor-specific quests nowadays, as it gives me something else to focus on. That's my tolerance limit. People need to find theirs.
-
I actually think it's fine and will be left alone. I know it's become a bit of a community joke about how there's always that one survivor perk that killers go crazy over, most of which turn out to be nothingburgers, but I honestly had my bets on it being Teamwork: Throw Down lol stunning or blinding gives all injured survivors within 24m endurance. I thought for sure people would be freaking out about team mates taking endurance hits during chase or in endgame or after flashlight saves lol I honestly did not think the chosen perk would be Last Stand.
-
Chucky, Myers, and Pig. I still get the occasional boop attempt, but mostly from ttvs. I guess boops must still be decent content? Also enjoy Wraith, Demo, and Xeno. Been contemplating buying Houndmaster.
-
The community tends to minimise just how difficult survivor can be to learn. It's not just 'oh you sit on a gen and learn to loop tiles, easy.' There's literally 39 killers with different powers/items, add ons, etc, that you need at least some basic knowledge of in order to adequately counter and stand a chance. The tutorial is woefully outdated.

Yeah, I've see the PTB Feedback. Unfortunately, this is one of the many pitfalls BHVR falls into. There's nothing wrong with BHVR looking to Killer mains for feedback on the Killer experience, but they do often look towards Killer mains for the Survivor experience as well. It's like asking a coyote advice on how to make a chicken coop better protected - yes, you'll get advice, but it'll only benefit the coyote.
I've pointed this out a number of times. For example, I dont play Clown or Pyramid Head, so I stick to my lane and let those players discuss and share their feedback on recent changes. But when it comes to survivor changes, those topics tend to get overrun by folks who dont even touch the role and have no interest in seeing it improve for others.

You can't really pressure 4 people at once as single Killer. Unless you're completely dominating all the chase, there'll always be someone on gen.
1 on hook
1 go for rescue/healing
1 occupies killer in chase
1 repairing gen.
This is why tunnelling is extremely effective, since it removes one person from the game, leaving no one repairing gen, meaning you have all the time in the world to kill the rest of survivors. This is the BIGGEST pressure Killer can apply.
That's kind of how the game is designed though. The idea isn't to completely stagnate the survivor objective, it's to apply enough pressure to slow it down. One person on a gen should be the best case scenario. Last time we had a stagnate survivor objective was during the old Eruption gen kick era, and the devs stepped in to fix that. Probably why the devs are also currently looking to implement anti-tunnelling, for the exact reason you just stated. Probably why they first implemented anti-stealth and anti-go next and tightened the AFK crows to ensure survivors engage with their objectives before seeing how far they need to tackle tunnelling.
-
I value my time too much to wait for them to leave. If it's tbags you are worried about, I can report that I very very rarely cop a tbag while escorting the stragglers out.
If you are someone who *often* cops tbags in the exit gate, I'm going to assume they're being rude because they felt you were being rude to them throughout the trial. In which case, well, give and take as far as I'm concerned (and that goes for either side - if you dish it out, prepare to take it back).
-
What an amazing result! Thanks for sharing 😊

If you only started playing from the Vecna release then I can understand why you'd feel that way. Fact is, both sides (including the big survivor nerf that was update 6.1) undergo changes in this game as the devs attempt to break new metas and bring variety. Live service games are frequently updated and go through changes. It's just what they do. You dont have to agree with every change (you'll notice we all can have very strong opinions on them) but changes are inevitable in this game. You either adapt or you don't. Not much else you can do.
-

I avoid YouTube completely. Probably why I've never cared about meta stuff as either survivor or killer. My builds generally consist of a bit of everything. Screw bringing 4 regression or antihealing perks, or full anti-slugging builds etc. I come prepared for a bit of everything.
-
@jedimaster505 said:
"meta" in this community really just means popular choice, at least within a small circle of comp wannabes that think they've mastered the game because they were able to do a search on YouTube for the "best" build. now many assume it's the popular choice because it's stronger, but this isn't really the case. these strategies tend to become popular because a handful of popular content creators publicly voice their opinion that a certain strategy or build is "OP", and then a huge swath of casual wannabe comp players accept what they hear without question and mindlessly copy this approach and preach it to everyone else until most casuals accept it too. basically, what we call a common myth.
There are so many off-meta builds that are just as strong or stronger than a "meta" healing build if you are creative and use your own intelligence to adjust your playstyle to the build. I've even checked in a combination calculator that there are multi-million number of potential builds a survivor could bring into a match. do you really think a handful of popular content creators are so masterful at this game that they've experimented with millions of possible builds to find the one secret build/playstyle that is most effective? Nope. they just found something that works moderately well and made a video about it to make money, and the hive mind then regurgitates this opinion as though it is the divine truth said from the almighty entity itself.
Now the irony here is that because everyone knows about the "healing meta", killers respond to it by running anti-heal builds and so you just end up with a predictable and ineffective carbon copy playstyle if you follow the hive mind. which means you have average results and if you're a survivor that means you lose most of your matches. if you want better results you need to explore builds for yourself and use your own ingenuity and creativity to get above average results and surprise the opponent. then if you do that successfully enough you might even inspire a new meta that the hive mind adopts. but by the time that happens the creative player has already moved on to a new approach they've discovered, so the hive mind that defines what we call "meta" is always lagging a few steps behind what is actually the best approach.
it's analogous to music charts and how an original artist can come in with an amazing hit that everyone loves. but before you know it all the other artists are copying that formula and so it loses it's appeal quickly. and the original artist who set that trend has already moved on to a new style of music because he wants to push the boundaries. it's cool the first time you do it, but once everybody copies it, it ceases to be cool.
that's basically what the meta is like in DBD. the pioneers of it may have been ahead of the curve when they discovered it, but everyone who is blindly following these pioneers is always behind the curve in their approach. that isn't to say that it's wrong to use any given perk or approach, but that the player who learns second-hand is always losing to the player who teaches himself through experimentation. this is what separates exceptional players from average players who want to be exceptional. to be exceptional, you cannot follow the norm.
"these strategies tend to become popular because a handful of popular content creators publicly voice their opinion"
It's honestly crazy to me the amount of sway that YouTube videos have over peoples minds and opinions. I see it with my eldest daughter when she's telling me that "people are saying... (insert latest talking point about her favourite singer/game/franchise)" and i have to interrupt her and ask, "oh "people" are saying, or just the YouTuber you watched is saying?"
I see the same thing on these forums when certain words or phrases suddenly become popular among a certain cohort of folks. I think, oh.. a new YouTube just dropped lol content creators tell folks there's a healing meta, so now all they'll be looking for in post-game are the healing perks that have actually always been there. And as a result they completely ignore the rest of the perks. Feels like the times someone will post a screenshot of their post-game screen and say the survivors were genrushing. But there's only a couple gen perks among them and no toolboxes etc.
-
I havent set mine up yet, is the lowest time frame for stats 30 days? If so then that's probably how often it updates

i'm completely convinced that the developer has given up on the survivor experience. like the game unfortunately is balanced around having at least 3 competent teammates if you're going up against a competent killer. but the MMR system seems to really enjoy thinking 1 or 2 competent teammates is good enough; but this is why even a complete fool like myself has a 75% kill rate across basically every killer in the game. on average I should not be winning my games but i am and honestly that's nonsense. the game used to be funner as a killer when it was more difficult because now so many games are just free wins, so many games are against just horrible survivors that you can't lose. and yeah, you'll go against good teams from time to time and of course i'll lose badly but i know in my next 3 games i'll just an easy win. it's kind of the same situations on survivor except inverse, 1 good game for every 3 horrible games. they've made the game less fun for both sides i think over the years.
If you are winning often, then someone else is losing often. I do think that people who try the game briefly, then decide they dont like it and never touch it again, probably help offset and drag down the average kill and escape rates.

Sadly there isn't going to be any balance with this game, no one is ever gonna be properly pleased. I mean when films come out, they do an audience review, I mean I guess they do some reviews and etc but like maybe they need to stick to more what they have created etc, tweak yes, but every next moon something has changed. I use to enjoy playing some certain Killers, now I can't and I can't enjoy it, I am not a player with stragerges, I get streamers do for their work and so, I just want fun.
I determine game balance by the amount of "killer sided" vs "survivor sided" posts. When they're equal we'll have achieved balance in the fog.

I mean, there's 2 BK but also 2 OTR and 2 SB and 2 Bond. There's 3 Self-Care, but for Feng it's still a slow heal so kinda pointless that one. This looks like an adequately mixed bag to me. Not even a medkit in there.
Recently buffed perks seeing more use is hardly news worthy. It's actually the point of them getting buffed.
