  • That queue time can't be right. They're certainly long because more people want to play killer, but I'm only waiting 5 minutes max

  • I was thinking to myself it would have been cool to be able to access and hang out in the security room lol

  • I keep getting Toba. Good thing i don't mind it lol

  • It's pretty much the same as last year's anniversary event, but the lack of pies definitely makes it worse. So yeah, I agree on that point.

do you think there are ever games where the killer has to tunnel/camp in order to win

That comes down to personal preference. For me? No. Because as I said in my post, the game is designed to give you harder opponents the more you win. The devs themselves have said this. Realistically, against better players, I *could* tunnel or camp and confirm a win when it might have been a loss, sure. But I'm the one who loses out in the long term. So I chase, I down, I hook, I patrol, I kick if necessary, and repeat. I can win doing this. Sometimes I don't, but more often than not I do.

  • I had the opposite problem this morning. Was playing Pig and the first guy I hooked tracked me down and was waving for me to down him again lol nah, I dont tunnel, even if you ask nicely. I just kept going around him and ignoring him. Eventually he started playing properly.

Day 1 Holding it Down for the Underground

It is true the rumors whispered about Pig. I went above ground to see what they now call the “Wasteland”. They still let you visit but there’s no resources there anymore. However, there tucked away in a decrepit chest in a relic glass from the past there was a note scribbled on the parchment it reads:

“ We opened Pandora’s box, and what was once just a stealthing Pig now gained a new ability, they say the traps weren’t enough, she needed something more and there in the dark Pig tinkered until she emerged with a new trap, one with wings. She now has the ability for aerial attacks to zone and trap us; as well as a dive bomb. It was too strong though and resources nuked.” -end note-

Out of need for adaptation we have fled to the underground. Now only guided by the odd light here and there to make our way through the tunnels stumbling in the dark. Jungle gyms we now have to carve for ourselves for any lines of defense, even then one swipe can bring the whole thing down. We feared the death from above, but nothing could have prepared us for the horrors that awaited below, thus 2 S tier killers with kit buffs emerged from their underground palace in a surprise rework a new Xeno and Demo was reborn.

    I'm invested 🍿

  • I dont mind anti- Go Next features, but i feel like the matchmaking improvement update should have come before it. And if there's only 2 survivors left then make it easier to let go (ie take it back to two missed skill checks)

The changes were made necessary by people going next every time they saw anything they didn't like.

Skull Merchant literally got gutted because of people inflating her kill rates by offing themselves on hook. After that there was no way survivors could be allowed to keep doing that.

"Skull Merchant literally got gutted because of people inflating her kill rates by offing themselves on hook"

That's untrue. A dev confirmed on this very forum that only 2% of her kills occurred on first hook.

  • Yeah they did adjust a number of maps, about a year ago

  • This topic has come up a few times before lol there are definitely a number of us who subscribe to this conspiracy theory

I am, at this point, allmost totally convinced that anyone who complains about being slugged for the 4k is not an experienced player thinking rationally. Any expierienced player knows that overwhelmingly the biggest reason killers slug for the 4k is hatch. Its. Not. Personal. Its the way the game was designed.

Dont think that applies in OPs case. Both he and the other slugged person havent been hooked once, and since hook attempts are gone the last survivor has no choice but to unhook them. Hooking them and then patrolling the hooks for the last survivor would waste less of everyone's time.

  • Why 30 days? Why not all time stats?

I think the 2v8 stage reduction machanic can be put into the main game.

@Shroompy its definitely a noticeable problem as of the 9.0.0 update. Its a huge topic rn since killrates on all killers have dropped by around 10%, which is not good

Mandy confirmed in another topic that killrates have not dropped on their end. Nightlite isn't accurate, even less so since the official stats site lessens the need for people to upload their stats there anymore.

  • Yeah, you definitely get some interesting ones lol i always escort any stragglers out the exit gate and honestly, I very very rarely cop any tbags. Hard to know if they're just trying to give me some extra points before they leave or they just literally want me to watch them leave. I very rarely see any of what I would call bad manners, thankfully.

I wonder if we could ever get a legendary Vecna skin from Stranger Things for Vecna. Is it like even possible to get a license skin on licensed character?

Definitely not. But the devs have said DND Vecna being in the game wouldn't prevent them from putting in ST Vecna as a separate killer if they ever got that license

As a side, I love the direction of this post. What started as a fair question about haste stacking has quickly turned into: "What did you do to Taurie, you monster!".

I'm gonna assume it's cos in the endgame chat OP is complaining to the other survivors about how their haste stacking wasnt fun for him. Yet it doesn't look like he cared much for Taurie's fun lol

  • The devs need to understand that people want the cakes to level up their paid for killers and/or survivors. Using a chunk of the bp earned from one cake to simply find another cake kind of negates the bonuses the cakes give us at all.

  • The tutorial system has long needed an overhaul

  • Don't have anything specific in mind, but i feel Otherworldly will allow a bit more creativity

    Picked both the same lol

Reason#2 is good for killers. If survivors are spread out they can be more efficient. I think everything will go back to normal in about a week or two after everyone gets used to the new updates

Exactly. Plus Corrupt has always been my #1 slowdown of choice, it brings my initial patrol area down to 4 gens. My first chase starts before anyone has even touched a gen. Them spawning together only works more in my favour.

So if all survivors abandon, it makes no sense to hook and kill the bots because it still counts as a draw? This means the only way to truly win is making sure you never ever have everyone down at the same time. This seems to be a bit much IMO.

I imagine it's a disincentive to slugging. If slugging all 4 and them abandoning counted as a win, then it removes all incentive to hook (which is literally how the game is intended to work)

  • Thanks for sharing. Is it only the two questions for now?

  • Might just have to try and ask for help. Smack the door when a survivor is nearby to try give them the hint.

Comments like this are part of the problem. You are just making up stuff that wasn't done or said by anybody. A dev saying he doesn't like the Skull Merchant is not "laughing" at anybody, and this whole idea that the devs nerfed Skull Merchant "to deliberately make her unplayable" is based on some baseless conspiracy theory that claims the devs said that themselves, when they never did.

Am I saying no comment from a dev should never be criticized? No, but one thing is valid criticism, the other is enabling hoaxes and misquotes, SPECIALLY when trying to somehow make the problem about that on a thread about the dev in question receiving death threats.

Spot on. I was in Hens chat when the comments were made (by a community dev, who also has nothing to do with killer change decisions and probably little to no insight into why the decisions are made in the first place), and someone took ONE comment and made it into something it wasn't. Probably one of the same people harassing this artist now. Some gamers aren't well.

  • @xGodSendDeath said:

Attacking them personally like that is wrong but remember people paid money for this character. I'm sure it's pretty annoying having the dev team laugh about how they butchered the character to deliberately make them basically unplayable

Except no "team" or dev even said that. A sole, visual effects artist (so not responsible for any of SMs changes) said she dislikes SM.

just play killer instead, it’s so much less frustrating to play. I legit had to stop and switch roles because playing survivor has been AWFUL.

This. I barely touch survivor these days but had to do that 'spawn party pallets' quest just now, and wow, did not enjoy that lol the flipside isn't that great atm either though, my queue time for killer is really bad. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here.

  • I've only played killer so far and havent had this issue. My games have been okay.

  • That is sickening. What the heck

I can't. I've seen countless toxic killers since I first started playing DBD, and countless toxic survivors too. This toxicity doesn't have a side.

Exactly. Especially since a good chunk of this playerbase plays both sides. If a player is BMing as a survivor, there's a good chance they're also BMing when they switch to killer.

  • My queue times have been about the same. Hopefully tomorrow is a bit better with the event. I'm looking forward to playing chill killer and getting some good bp gains with everyone

Alright, so, after more time for testing with friends (had to rope in a few newcomers, thankfully my friends helped with that) I am back with some more thoughts about the "AFK" crow system. (remember me @Nazzzak ?)

    While all I said earlier (and in many other threads) still holds pretty much true (mostly for newcomers, people playing efficiently will rarely get crows outside of very specific situations, which is a problem because newcomers will not play efficiently and will still think the game is hide & seek) there are a few more problematic situations that we came across, some of which are extremely egregious;

Slugging for the 4k (slugging the 3rd Survivor in order to get more time to find the 4th and guarantee the 4k/Mori while bypassing Hatch entirely, leading to a 4-minute bleedout waste of time that nobody enjoys) has been made so much worse. Everyone knows how boring and how much of a waste of time slugging for the 4k is, there's dozens of threads about it. The new "AFK crows" essentially strengthen slugging for the 4k by forcing the last Survivor to expose themselves when the other is downed, the Killer can simply patiently wait over the slug (or just patrol in close proximity) and the last Survivor (obviously unable to save the slug) will have to do gens to keep crows at bay BUT when they inevitably finish a gen it will light a massive "I am here!" beacon which is likely to lead to the Killer finding and downing the last Survivor. Fast Killers (Oni, Blight, Billy etc.) can push it further and simply sweep around the map at high-speed, looping back to the slug often, and the last Survivor will now not only be unable to save the slug safely but will also be forced to be very vulnerable to a fast Killer to keep crows at bay by using gens. Slugging for the 4k is one of the most egregious thing in the game and the new crow system essentially makes it so that the game is effectively over if two Survivors die and the gates aren't already powered. A SWF on comms can coordinate perks (bringing Unbreakable/Adrenaline) and arrange for them to get downed in the map corner in order to be able to somewhat deal with this if only a single gen remains, but no mechanic should require being in a SWF to deal with.

Endgame stalling. With the right perks (No Way Out, Remember Me etc.) some Killers can basically force Survivors to get crows by forcing them away from gates (and since there's no more gens to do…) for a long time. Trapper, Singularity, Springtrap (depending on door spawn), and the faster Killers can be quite good at forcibly revealing the Survivors' locations (a single crow is enough to reveal your location is a pretty wide radius due to the noise it makes). Newcomers (and SoloQ who can't coordinate) have a very hard time not getting undeserved crows in those situations.

After some more testing (and a bit of research) Thrill of the Hunt is rough when trying to get rid of a Hex that cannot be ignored (especially for newcomers who will likely take a long time to even find a totem since they don't know the spawns) and crows will quickly accumulate, forcing the Survivor to go back on gens to get rid of it since a single crow will prevent them from hiding near the Killer entirely. Even without Thrill, newcomers have more issues with totem hunts. Combine that with screaming perks and/or Doctor and it's very likely that crows will appear, especially for newcomers.

The more powerful Killers with high-mobility (Blight, Billy etc.) now can use Grim Embrace and Dead Man's Switch (or any gen-block perk) to forcibly give crows to Survivors by simply keeping them off of gens for a while and, due to their speed, be able to quickly patrol and scare away Survivors from gens. This is even worse on newcomers who don't know the gen spawns and are more easily scared into hiding by the Terror Radius.

Tight 3-gen situations, especially against fast Killers, are prime territory to get crows for newcomers due to being scared and not wanting to risk getting found. Comms can work around it but again, no mechanic should require comms/being in a SWF to deal with.

In one particularly hilarious (but unlikely to happen in a regular game outside of a severe MMR mismatch in favor of the Survivor) game, one of us got a crow while hiding in a locker on a tile on the edge of Toba Landing while another Survivor looped the Killer in that tile for essentially the whole game (we were waiting for him to get hit so he'd be able to get max distance from his Adrenaline to finish the last gen) and I assume the only reason why the Killer didn't care about the crows that spawned on the locker is because they were (for some reason) fixated on my friend and simply refused to drop chase despite having their metaphorical ankles turned to dust for so long that Wesker had no more time to play and had to leave. While an obvious outlier, this situation is nonetheless something that can happen if a Survivor ends up hiding near a chased teammate and was unfortunate enough to have already accumulated some AFK points beforehand (probably due to travel time and/or having been forced to wait for his gen to get unblocked).

Keep in mind, during most of our testing (in customs, some of it was done in pubs and usually not in a 4-man), we knew what we we going to deal with. Even with prior knowledge of what was going to be in play (something that is not the case during regular play) we still encountered undeserved crows a few times in select situations. We unfortunately lost one of our newcomers toward the end (at least from playing the Survivor role) when they got crows while they were hiding during a 2v1 slugging for the 4k situation. Myself and my more experienced friends (many of which are leagues better than me) rarely get crows during normal play since we play efficiently and try our best to stick to gens (even more than before due to the new "AFK" crow system, this actually made us change our builds a bit since stealth is less of a priority and is less viable overall, thank the Entity for Deja Vu otherwise our newcomers would have been utterly lost in indoor maps and it would make every issues of the system even worse), but people that are not playing with efficiency in mind (and/or are simply new) are very prone to accumulate AFK points and suddenly get a crow at the worst moment.

Quite frankly, the crows no longer feel like "AFK crows", they now feel more like "Guideline crows" in the sense that even though the players are NOT AFK and are moving/running/totem hunting/waiting out certain situations, the game now essentially says "you are not doing what you should be doing as much as you should". Experienced players that are playing efficiently will seldom see the system at work (unless in extreme situations like slugging for the 4k and endgame stalling) but there's no repeating it enough that newcomers get hit a lot more by it than experienced players even if they are actively playing. I really do hope it gets either partially reverted (dropping/picking up items no longer removing crows and loss of collision after 3 crows are great things to keep) or sent back to the drawing board. At least, it should be far more lenient overall and should deactivate entirely in certain situations (2v1 and a Survivor gets downed, being in a certain proximity to an exit game during endgame etc.) to deal with the extreme situations.

Thanks for the detailed update! Honestly, not surprised by any of the results. More loss of agency, and newcomers suffering the most.

  • @smurf said:

I take a similar approach in the sense that I always keep in mind that I'm playing with other people. If someone is having a bad match already in the early game, I give them chances to keep playing and enjoy their game.

Having said that, I also try for 3k in most of my games and give hatch to the last survivor. My goal is to make sure we all have fun, maintain my MMR to avoid dramatic skill mismatches, and try to do well. In that context, I also usually try to down the fourth survivor before giving them hatch. But my most important goal by far is to make sure we can all have fun :D

This is exactly how I play lol i had an Alucard earlier keep running into me while trying to find his Plaything totem. Once I'd hooked him a second time, I would look away and purposely ignore him when we'd cross paths 😂 i had Amanda's Letter too (playing Pig) and when I'd see his aura on a gen I'd move on. I gave him hatch lol

  • Matchmaking isn't very good and in desperate need of an overhaul (which is apparently coming at some point)

  • I actually prefer the new dailies as I can play the killers i enjoy. I really disliked that I'd get dailies for killers i only bought for their perks and not because I actually enjoy playing them lol in general though, yeah, I can see why people would find the quests basic. As someone who can go days without playing it's kind of nice sitting down for a couple hours one day and getting progress without having to think too much about it.

Some people use wiggling to communicate to other survivors that the killer isn't near them, at least from what I've seen. I also just like the ability because it prevents killers from knowing that any time a survivor wiggles, they have a chance (or guarentee, if you run deliverance like me) of getting off. Without all survivors being able to wiggle, killers could just line of sight camp the hook and run over if the survivor tries to get free. This way, they have no clue if it's real or not

Funnily enough, it used to be the opposite. You'd do the "camp dance" when the killer was camping your hook lol

  • @jmbullet said:

I think this is also very likely to affect new players who, for lack of a better word, just suck at the game. Maybe they won't be getting downs because they don't know how to play well. Maybe they're trying out a killer they are unfamiliar with and are learning their power. Are they going to get a matchmaking penalty because they are not getting the results? Not everyone is a pro gamer. It doesn't mean they should be punished for it. I also think that friendly killers and achievement hunters should not punished. There are more than just 1 valid way to play the game, and as long as someone is not intentionally preventing other players from having fun, it should not be a problem.

Also folks who find themselves against cheaters. If you DC, it's a penalty. If you stick it out but are prevented from progressing the match, also a penalty.

  • @Rackjaw said:

Veteran players don't know how bad it is for new players trying to play survivor. Killer is VASTLY stronger than solo queue survivors, you escape maybe 5-10% of the time on a good day, some days it's literally 0%.

On top of this now the game will randomly disconnect and you lose an entire survivor rank which takes forever to get. Meanwhile on killer I'm going against squads of 4 that all have 1000's of hours in the game.

It's a terrible experience, and that's not even to mention the pay to win. The new player erxperience is trash.

They really should have prioritised matchmaking improvements over this faulty AFK crows and Go Next stuff with this update. New players should be learning alongside new players.

  • He's brought them their highest consecutive player count ever lol not in a million years would they killswitch him. I havent played survivor since his day of release, so that would be my advice until the bugs are ironed out

  • Pretty much. I dont tunnel at all, ever. I lose some games, I win more games, and sometimes I draw. The game is designed to give you harder opponents the more you win, and as your skill naturally develops you'll be able to overcome them and slowly face even better players. Tunnelling hinders development, and since it prevents players from developing better macro gameplay, they will feel like they have to tunnel. And after years of playing this game, I can assure you, you won't be able to convince them otherwise that this is a hell of their own making. I've been saying for years on this very forum that when i play survivor, I see a tunnelling killer in maybe 1 out of every 12 games. They're a minority imo, and i suspect it's purely an ego thing - they have to win 100% of their games. Majority of killers manage just fine without resorting to it.

No it will not count at all unless the stream is being actively watched, this means it can't be hidden in the background and gain progress.

You can have it minimised and muted in the corner of your screen though. Which is close enough.

  • I do understand why some people want it. But in a game that is actually really sound dependent, I think it would be more of hindrance. Not sure if you ever played VHS but if not, go and check out some streamer videos. Watching Dowsey play VHS back in the day is what turned me off the prospect of proximity chat. The amount of people who just LOVE the sound of their own voice and would make sure you heard every little scream they let out or every single thought that crossed their mind was mind boggling. Sure, you could have an option to turn it off but then you run the risk of copping the ire of your team mates.

  • It's just bugged, should be fixed this week
