  • What if... We didn't do click bait subject lines...

  • I tend to agree. It's just hard for killers because pipping means kills, not just hooks. Survivors have way more means to get pips, and therefore can feel more successful in a match regardless of whether or not they survive.

Killers just have more "I lost" moments.

  • Survivors would need a way to counter it, and right now as described, there aren't any. I think making it an extra gen, so keen survs could figure it out, and missing a skill check or a hex skill check will destroy the fake gen. (Thus making it a bad pair with hex ruin)

If a killer kicks the gen, it disappears too.

Things like Small Game could trigger on the gen though. Or maybe they have NO skill checks, do players can get suspicious and move on.

Killers: Hah this puss dcd cause I brought a mori, what a loser I better post it on a forum

Also killers: I'm just gonna lobby dodge the ######### out of everyone until i'm sure it's not SWF with an acceptable number of items

The problem with that is the animation. The last hook is usually end game time, and I don't want to take the time to Mori. If I had an option to skip the animation, and just get my kill as i run by, great. But there should be SOME benefit to the offering. I'd be more than happy if it meant I didn't need to drag yo ass to the next hook and could quickly move on to other surivors. (But I could also care less for the animation.)

Ha! I think that's why David King is my man.

  • I agree with this. Body blocking is the antithesis of the core idea of this game. The survivor should just be moved a side if the killer tries to moves through them.

  • I love this post so much. The sheer amount of entitlement is stunning.

That should be the responsibility of the parent and not the sellers.

There are plenty of examples where the seller is responsible for restricting who can buy what based on age.

It still is the responsibility of the parent, because now the parent has to go with to make the purchase. This falls in line with your thinking, because apparently you believe that the parents are with their kids 24x7 to PREVENT them from buying the game, so by that reasoning they must also have availability to ACTUALLY buy them the game.

  • @thefallenloser said:

Yeah, parents are the reason for their existence. They should just take off the age and leave what it includes.

But then the stores wouldn't have a legal reason to NOT sell the game to just anyone. The age is on there for that reason, and it makes sense. Including the content for parents to view doesn't do jack if the kid can just walk down the street and buy it anyway.

  • Thanks. I'll try that

Do you seriously think that anyone actually cares about video game age ratings lol?

They're some stupid arbitrary rule mandated by the gov't. Hopefully they're killed off. Waste of space on the box art and GameStop really annoys me sometimes.

For parents who aren't into videogames they are actually very helpful. There are too many games for a parent to go out and research everyone that their kid would want to play and the reasons why they get that rating are listed. That way parents can get a quick overview of the questionable content.

You really think because the game is 18+ NO ONE under 18 plays it? Really? Age ratings are bs anyway.

I don't. But I this helps me understand a lot of the toxic behavior I see in the game.

I opted out of doing sub-18 age brackets because narrowing down even further seemed... creepy...

You are the one not getting it.

Let me put it this way.

When spirit decides to phase a few things happen.

    -She stops

-she holds the power button, making a progress bar appear.

-when the power bar completes, she goes into phase.

-she releases the power button to stop phasing

Now, pay attention to what I am NOT asking for.

    -She stops

-she holds the power button, making a progress bar appear.

-when the power bar completes, she goes into phase.

-A TELL HAPPENS TELLING OTHER PLAYERS SHE'S INTO THIS STATE.

-she releases the power button to stop phasing

Now, this is what I actually am asking for.

    -She stops

-she holds the power button, making a progress bar appear.

-A TELL HAPPENS, TELLING THOSE LOOKING AT HER SHE WENT INTO THIS STATE

-when the power bar completes, she goes into phase.

-she releases the power button to stop phasing

Notice the difference, and what that implies.

I play a ton of spirit, and I'd be totally on board with this change.

The problem is, when you see a spirit suddenly stop moving, you can assume that she is phasing, but you don't know. A small hint at the beginning that a skilled player would notice (which most of the people on here are, right?) that she actually phased would help with the counterplay, since the ideal move in this situation would be to double back at a walking pace, or sharp left or right into hiding. If she managed to you trick you, then you're SOL. Its a crapshoot though due to the lack of feedback.

I think its subtle queues like this tell that actually turn spirit from the powerhouse "hard" killer to one the actual hard killer that takes some skill. Activating your power would now require YOU the killer to actually plan a good time to do when the survivor may not be able to notice the tell.

I believe that most of us hate loops. They're annoying for the killer, and survivor alike. I believe that this game should be more about stealth and mind gaming, which spirit can certainly do as a killer, but the survivors don't really have the option.

I'm fine with the spirit changes, and I'd be fine with this. Spirit is easy-mode. She's who I go to after a few bad rounds as survivor or another killer and I just want to wreck some people. If there is any killer that should be labeled Easy right now its her

  • Survivors will just suicide, and I don't care if killer DC on me. Usually I just feel bad for it

  • Everyones already said it, but no more Mr. Nice Killer. I've played by all the rules, and still get taunted end of match and during.

Sorry, I'll play be "survivor rules" when you start playing by my killer rules, which includes:

    • No body blocking (this is my #1 pet peeve with playing killer - its an affront to the chore idea of the game)
    • No taunting and healing on the other-side of palettes because you have no fear.
    • Don't run for infinite loops every time.
    • Don't crawl under the hook while someone is on it to waste my time.

Yes, they're all "legit strategies", but so is camping and tunneling. So deal.

  • @TheRoyalOwl said:

Yeah no, red rankers arent that good but atleast they actually do something. A big reason I dislike survivor is the fact that if I have bad teammates, I can only really escape though the hatch. Without ranking survivors would be at a huge disadvantage, because even having one player that has no clue what they are doing can ruin my chances at winning.

There would _be ranking_ you just wouldn't see it.

See this guy gets it, this game should be emulating a horror movie. Those characters tried to avoid the killer they didn’t run out and taunt them then loop them around the kitchen table 3 times

I hate the looping game. Its unauthentic, not scary, or intense. Its the reason that the killer feels weak, instead of powerful. I'd be totally happy if there were killers you were supposed to hide from, those you were supposed to run from, etc. Change your strategy up when you realize your map/killer combo, but instead, most survivors will stay on a gen until they're about to get hit, then dash away for their marathon.

Survivors have SUCH an advantage with their field of view, I've literally walked killers around large rocks a few times with out them knowing I was there.

  • @Mr_K said:

I'm against incentivizing what is perceived to be normal behavior. You are expected to play the game fully and not DC.

In all my years as a boss, parent, and coach, I've found people react much better to positive rather than negative reinforcement.

  • God forbid you change you're play style and try to avoid chases altogether... I almost always run awareness and stealth perks, and I rarely have issues on this map until all my survivor buddies die off or DC.

No need to jump in but more and more I think I am going to buy it.

Still ages to go and after looking again last night I saw several outfits which I like and would use.

Its all going to depend on how easy the tomes are as that's where the progress comes.

Am accepting that Tome 4 will be tough but lets see how 2 and 3 go....

Like I say no need to decide yet.

<Sarcastic_Trolling> You know, if you converted your time in DBD to real world work time, you could buy real outfits you could actually feel, use, and keep forever </Sarcastic_Trolling>

  • @coppersly said:

If DbD is to cling to the pathetic lie that it is a casual game and not competitive (they say this because if they held tournaments everyone would see the competitive aspect is a ######### JOKE) they NEED to remove the ranking system, or at least remove it from players eyes.

Being able to see your rank only encourages competitive attitudes and playstyles. It's half the reason we have so much problems with "sweaty" games. If rank was hidden at least you'd never know where you are for sure so the casual environment can actually start to set in.

    Agree 100%.

  • Why? The aura of a lit totem that the killer sees?

It doesn't matter. They already know where that totem is if they care (and most don't care, since most killers aren't going to actively guard the totem, they trap it and move on - its a waste to guard a totem when there are gens being done). They also don't know which lit totem is which, because there is a killer perk where we WANT the totem to be cleansed, but if we're using it in conjunction with something like Ruin, we don't know which one you're actually doing.

Plus, we can hear you doing the totem, so we may take a quick peak and slap ya off it anyway.

  • @horsegod386 said:

no because if there was not a ranking system I wouldn't be able to go against rank 15 killers as a rank 7 survivor main. so I say ranks are useful in that scenario

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not... but you'd still end up in matches with people who may not be as skilled as you, you just wouldn't know it. You could then assume every match was evenly matched, and you had a good game - not that you just pounced on a newbie.

  • @AshleyWB said:

    Or it could be Tracer.

Nah. Roadhog would make a bunch better killer.

    I hope its Snow White.

  • I wish they kept rank hidden and only used behind the scenes data for match making. That way they could adjust the algorithm to help against derankers and swf groups.

When matchmaking, they should consider all factors. Overall level, overall wins vs losses, average season end rank (which isn't shown to the player still), how often they DC, etc.

Instead of visible rank up, give people 10 auric cells for each pip, or one shards. Something to incentivize good play.

I agree but now we are going backwards suddenly and I think everyone would want to avoid that

I think you're jumping to a lot of conclusions. Spirit is way way too easy to 4k. BHVR will have player attrition if they don't fix it. Nurse is legit hard to play, so the reward for being good at her is more kills, but not being good at her is like no kills... That's not true of spirit.

It's bad design, but just one of many. They should buff up all the lower tier killers. I simply don't agree with their "not all killers are meant to be equal" line. Sure, it's hard to balance them all, but they shouldn't be this varied in success rate.

  • @DaGreenBolt said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/826805#Comment_826805

He's saying they do it for killers, but not for the survivors, and he's right you know. I've yet to see BHVR nerf something on the survivor side, or adjust gens or something, since there are killers complaining about the Gen rush meta.

That's because the Survivor side is way simpler and adjustments there need to be way more subtle. And they have, over time. The game is in the best health it's been in since I've been playing.

  • I'm surprised the OoO is that high too. Feel like that's just Tunnel time

  • Why is bond so high?

    Is this for solo queue?

Yet it's ok for the other side..? So forgive me if I dont buy into that

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

  • Behavior has the DATA to know what needs adjustments. You guys complaining about the impending spirit adjustment are wasting your time.

It's been over talked about at this point, so instead of just complaining make valid suggestions on how she can be adjusted and still feel good to play.

The forum is not the majority - it's not even the target market.

BHVR knows that it's not good to have a killer that requires low skill to get 3 and 4 kills and high skill to counter.

This is why this game is stagnanting in terms of playerbase. Not many new players stick to dbd

And why the match making sucks. Not enough players and not enough new ones coming in.

  • @razaluna said:

I've had the passing thought of changeing iri heads to be a piercing hatchet , making blocking hits for your team far more dangerous, but there's a chance the game could bug out and we could get the "double hit with one hatchet" glitch again

    I like this.

I'd like to see them be able to damage generators too. Could apply some good map pressure by damaging gens from a distance quickly

  • I wish they were able to be more agile in their development with frequent updates.

I think another big problem was too many new killers, too fast. They have way too many variables now.

I'd love to see a perkless week where no one can use perks and see what happens. Or incentive not using them by multiplying BP for each open perk slot.

I seem to be getting a pattern here of people telling me I should've researched the game first.

    Well

I did. I knew about the game for the last year and recently decided to buy it because I came into a little extra money. I knew about the unbalanced matchmaking already but figured it had gotten addressed or would be addressed soon if not already. I knew the game mechanics. I knew the goals of each side. Sure, maybe it's a bit sad of me to complain when knowing what I signed up for but I feel like the devs have a responsibility to fix a game they've created. Besides, I'm not a hardcore gamer. I'm here to have fun. I just want to have fun fairly.

I want to like the game. I think the premise and basics are a super cool idea. I'm used to balanced PVE games so to play an asymmetrical PVP game is new and exciting.

I have no other complaints other than the matchmaking. So if that gets fixed I'm sure I can love the game.

Match making is messed up mostly because their player base is too small for what the game needs. If you think queue times are bad like this, they'd be a lot worse if they tried to do it any better.

I'm pretty sure if the player base was bigger the current scheme would work fine and they could start to reduce the gap between ranks in a match, but they are trying to balance queue times as well, it eventually makes exception and you start to see disperate ranks in matches.

Unfortunately, the game is fairly old now and the only way they are going to get more players is with licensed content and I think that only provides a few bursts and then it tapers off again.

  • @lilbitofliah said:

I know I know, "Ugh, another newbie complaining about not being good". Here me out.

This game is severely unbalanced right now and I don't know why this hasn't be addressed yet. It seems that the game has been unbalanced for years now judging by old forums and complaints made by others. Now, yes, I'm new and I don't know all the ropes yet. I'm not here to whine over not winning. I'm here to be level-headed and provide enough proof to show that there's more to this unbalance mechanics than just being bad.

First off, all of the game's unbalance-ness is rooted in unbalanced match-making. As I've already said, I'm new. I just bought the game and played for the first time and have a total of 10 hours on the game. Before anyone clicks off because "that's definitely not enough time to be making opinions on the game mechanics!!!!", just listen. I have 10 hours on the game. Just 10. Meaning my survivor rank is currently 17 and my killer rank is 19. How is the match-making unbalanced? I've been paired up with survivors and killers who are rank 10 and up (or is it considered below?) One time I had a survivor on my team who was rank 8. I don't know if they were paired up with anyone else on my team but I doubt it because they were the last to join the match after we've all been waiting for a few minutes. I believe it was my third or fourth match where I was paired up with a rank 12 killer while I was still rank 20.

This unbalanced match-making causes a whole new slew of unbalanced problems. I've read the forums, guides, and tips from higher ranked players. I've seen the youtube gameplay videos. And I'm here to tell you that those are not helpful when you're a newbie going up against people with hundreds, if not thousands, of hours dedicated to the game. This means that no matter what I do, I'm always losing because the killers are OP against us newbie survivors who are still learning the game or the survivors are OP against us newbie killers who are too slow to get anyone.

"How about you just git gud, newbie?!" How many I supposed to git gud when I don't have a fair chance to practice against people my own skill level? The very first time I played as killer, I got paired up with a bunch of rank 12's or so (two of which were partnered I believe while the other two were separate) and they completed all the gens in like 3 minutes. I didn't even hit a single person that round let alone anyone hooked. How is that fair? How am I supposed to practice when I can't even get a chance to play properly?

Also, I've heard higher ranked players say that killers are always OP for newbies no matter what rank anyone is, the game is more balanced when you're around the 12-8 rank, and the survivors are OP when you're 7 and up. However, like I said, I've seen youtube game play videos by higher ranked people and more times than not the killer ends up getting at least 3 out of the 4 survivors. And that doesn't seem balanced to me. "Well, the survivors' role is to get killed. That's how the game works. You're not supposed to escape" <-- yes that was an actual quote made by a higher ranked player. I don't know if they were trolling or not but if they honestly believe that, then the game is even worse because no one wants to be cannon fodder. The whole point of the game is to work together and escape. What fun is the game if you're role in the group is to sacrifice yourself so only one person can escape at the end?

And another thing, the wait times for killer are INSANE! When I queue up as survivor I'm in a game like 2 minutes later. When I queue up as killer, I'm waiting for 25 minutes minutes. Yes, I do mean that literally. And it's every time too, not just a one-time thing. I've actually pulled up a timer on my phone and timed how long I've waited for a game. The shortest so far has been 18 minutes.

Bonus discussion/idea: I've had a lot of trouble with players DC. One time 2 of my teammates DC'ed after being downed once (not even hooked yet) and we still had 4 generators to complete. And then I got hooked and the killer camped me so my teammate couldn't rescue me and I ended up dying. This makes the killer definitely too OP no matter what. I don't know why the game devs haven't implemented something to counter that yet like maybe for each DC survivor, the amount of gens needed to be repaired to open the gates is reduced by 1. Or maybe each DC survivor adds a significant speed bonus to healing, cleansing, and repairing.

Long story short: this game is too unbalanced and is a waste of money. I want a refund.

You make valid points and it's too bad most of the people who come to these forums will both defend the game like they wrote the code, and then turn around and ######### about the exact same things you said.

Although I will agree with some of them, you knew to come here to complain, but not to research before hand. Most online reviews will say exactly what you have said.

TBH it's a pretty terrible game I can't stop playing. The mechanics are one dimensional, is super imbalanced (to which the devs will say is by design) and the amount often times you don't feel like you won or lost based on skill but instead by randomness completely out of your control (which is the part that annoys me the most).

Its been out for a while, so hopefully you didn't break the bank on it. If you're not having fun just move on and avoid asymmetrical games since I'm not sure can be balanced.

    Yeah. Iron Will is fantastic.

Iron Will is fantastic on PC, but I don't see it run much on PS4 because far fewer players use headsets. When you just have stereo speakers, its super hard for the killer to locate your grunt.

  • @SaintDenisSlasher said:

Lol you gonna be mad as hell maining killer if losing upsets you

Losing doesn't upset me if I feel like it's because I played poorly. Not because I was legit handicapped by mates effectively playing a different game.

  • What ever they decide with secondary objective id put money on it still has to do with escaping. It'll be more like an alternative objective than a secondary one, and it will likely be just a different survivor overall objective. So maybe one game you get generators, other games it's grabbing gas cans like in left for dead.

  • The point of the perk is to be anti-tunnel, and to get the killer away from the hook. The best way to do this is to give the killer a big huge sign of where to go next. I think it does a great job at this.

The only change I would make (and I say this as a mostly a killer player), is to NOT give aura readings, or give different distance/duration when you do a death hook. If its the death hook, there is no one to tunnel, no one to camp, so the killer has to move on anyway.
