I like them as a concept. However, the execution has been mostly poor, bar Dead Dawg Saloon. Really, they could have made them randomly placed and had it so the killer could see them but survivors couldn't. I wouldn't want every shack to have one - predictability makes it boring - but I would say that having that surprise of the killer coming through unexpected areas would have been fun - especially on indoor maps.
-
That was a great show! I've not had the chance to watch it from beginning to end, but "The Mentalist" was quite an original take on crime drama.
Patrick Jane always felt like he'd be a great Dr. Who too!
-
On the plus side, it's nice to see Quentin taking the news so well.
-
Hello, and welcome back! I hope you've found new ways to enjoy gaming, with new games that don't cause problems to your mental health.
-
Mori's aren't toxic. Especially since the change to them a while back.
This is what's so strange that, during the 5th anniversary, BHVR said that they still felt they were toxic. There was very little going round at the time that I can recall of people being unhappy. Really, dying a different way to having some spider legs lift your impaled corpse upwards is somewhat refreshing.
-
Whilst there are definitely more viable killers than others, I'd hasten to add a killer is only as weak as you play it. Trapper is easily the most restrictive of killers, and yet under the right playstyle and technique he is extremely deadly. It depends on how far a player wishes to challenge themself to learn a killer and become brilliant, or whether they'd prefer a killer which has a better chance at winning from the get go.
Eitherway, the game is there to cater for both those and anyone inbetween.
-
Those 2 zombies are the stars (pun not initially intended, but I'll take it) of the RE chapter for me. They add an unquantified comedic element to trials. I'm certain on one of the 4gamers videos there was a clip where a survivor got pinballed first by a Nemesis tentacle, into a zombie swipe, and a final down by the other zombie.
I've not played Nemesis yet, but have faced him a few times, and he's one of the most entertaining killers tp go against.
-
It's much better now. It cannot be abused by survivors for a quick gen fix, but does punish killers from going for an immediate tunnel. Also, less people run it now, so overall it's much better from both sides.
-
An absolute battle I had a long time ago with a 4-man swf. Dirty tactics used by both the team and myself in a really aggressive game. I mori'd 1 person, thanks to the old system and an ivory Mori, but the other 3 escaped.
However, afterwards I was invited to a post-game chat, which for some odd reason I accepted, but actually turned out well as they were complimentary, as was I. Had a bit of a laugh about it, wished each other well and moved on.
Respect to anyone who, no matter how they play, is respectful in victory and willing to keep hostilities solely within the trial, as it should be.
-
Exercising is a great way to deal with it, especially if it's an exercise machine that provides resistance, like a cross-trainer. There's something about pushing against something that helps constructively release stress.
Punching also helps. Get a punch bag, as having something to focus on will also help release it.
-
It's more a mix of attempting to balance the game as well as judging what people are finding problematic. It's not as simple as hearing players want a perk changed and doing it without thinking.
Some changes, like Hillbilly's cooldown, were made with absolutely nobody putting in any request to do so. Likewise, huge threads about changing certain perks have resulted in no action. So there's definitely evidence to confirm alterations are based on more than just pleasing people.
-
Post it in the bugs section. Discussions are randomly read by devs here, so putting it in general discussions may go unnoticed. Also, include a picture.
There's no main thread as each bug is dealt individually, but they are all read there.
-
Take yourself away for a while and remember DBD is just a very minor part of your life. If something becomes too consuming then it feels enormous, overwhelming, oppressive. Best to take some perspective.
Also, every trial is its own seperate sequence of events. Use them as mini-stories that you play the role of the villain. It's a small movie, effectively.
Finally, remind yourself that all players are human and distant. No matter what insults they hurl, not responding (& reporting when appropriate) and moving on is the greatest strength. Being unacknowledged is worse than any insult, because you become focused on you and take it away from them.
-
The closest thing I can come up with is The Doctor threw a party for the killers when he was brought in (like a house-warming party), and this is the extra food brought by the Hillbilly that wasn't needed.
That's the best I've got.
-
My deepest condolences. He looks a beautiful and cared-for character. Allow yourself to grieve, and although any apology for whatever you did is very honourable of you, people will inderstand.
My best to you and your family.
-
I'm not certain about the balance, honestly. I do like Boil Over being changed to struggle speed, and changing Fire-up to movement speed could be interesting - although as it stacks the end speed could be too much. Brutal Strength is a decent change, although currently it's decent too.
But there are some balances which I don't get: Making distortion active throughout the game; having a cooldown on a perk like "Whispers"; Tinkerer losing its undetectable status and having a cooldown, rather than one or the other; Left Behind just showing a hatch, regardless of where you are.
I like that you've played about with new options, but I think some more rebalancing is needed.
-
Judging by fanart, I would say the number is more sizeable than in most other games. Not quite as much gay fanart as The Magnus Archives, but definitely a lot. Plus BHVR are very welcoming and open in their support of the LGBTQ+ community.
I'm straight, and have used the Pride charm on occassion within the game. It was a shame to see a very minor few players targetting people because of the Pride charm, but I'm assuming those who sent anti-gay messages and reported would have been swiftly dealt with.
-
Adam in a red jacket or any street clothing is basically always going to be a knob.
-
The understanding of the flow of the trial. Being able to both outplay a killer and when stealthy approaches are best. Being able to adapt and learn the killer's movements. How to use tactics and planning, and realising it's not a race to be done quickly, moreover a constantly shifting pace that requires both speed and patience at different moments.
It's certainly a lot more than understanding how to loop.
-
Sydney Prescott is the most recognisable for me, a great character and I am a fan of Neve Campbell in general, so she's my pick.
Also, as her character broke the horror trope rules within "Scream", that's a good theme for her perks to be around - disrupting the norm.
-
Not sure if it was a glitch or not, but I have hit survivors over the fence before. One injured survivor teabagged me as we went around it, so just out of interest I hit at him on the fence and he went down, followed by a disconnection.
-
Very helpful discussion, which I'm sure new killers will benefit from. Straight to the point and good to see an elemwnt on being prepared for negative comments, etc..
I'd also add that when trying a new killer, do not be affraid to abuse your power. Especially when it comes to learning trickier killers like Nurse, it's much better to lose but learn how best to use the power to your advantage. Early trials can simply be training exercises, so don't worry whether you're against great, average or poor players. If anything, you can learn a lot from a good player.
-
I crack my toes as well as knuckles, so as somewhat of an expert in the art of "cracking", I feel my input will be valuable 😆
It's caused by gases being released when bending the joints; the gas being nitrogen. It's why there is a delay between cracking, because the gas needs to build up again. Comes from a liquid sack at the joints.
This is pure guesswork, but my thinking for the ring finger being hard to crack is that that finger is not used as much as the others and, like a muscle, the more you use or test a part then the stronger it becomes. If this applies to the liquid sacks, then those sacks on more used joints ought to be larger and stronger, therefore storing more liquid; producing more gases.
I'm sure someone who is actually educated in the human body would either disprove me or be clearer in explanation, but my thinking at least makes a bit of sense.
-
Certain player attitudes are, for me, the absolute main problem in this game. I don't come across it in the vast majority of my games, and even if I do, I don't rise to it (whether as survivor or killer), but it happens and to those who are more affected really do suffer.
It's a lack of empathy and understanding (often caused by a complete congruent failure of an individual who is most likely feeling inadequate in themselves - using bravado and attitude to hide their vulnerabilities) which is key. There's also blame to be laid on some influencers and streamers, who choose to get their views by mocking or acting like tossers and thinking themselves as the big "I am".
Probably because their lives are crap, so others need to look like crap. Some of those will either accuse the other who outplays them as rubbish, or if they outplay the other they call them the same thing. It's not often "Well played, that was a good move!", but instead: "Ha! Stupid n00b". The culture behind sitting behind a screen, acting like very early Pewdiepie with the most exaggerated features, or screaming abuse and shouting because it's apparently "entertainment" - it's as cringe as reality tv, which has a lot to answer for mental wellbeing, but that's another topic. I digress.
Anyway, although people who act like bullies in DBD don't hurt my confidence or person, I completely agree with OP that some people's attitudes are the worst part of this game. I'd even go as far to say BHVR would listen more to constructive feedback than someone ranting "Your game is #########! It's pathetic you ignorant ... blah-blah-blah". I know I shut off the moment someone gets like that. Fortunately, I believe it's not an epidemic of morons, and there are many, many decent players and streamers/influencers out there who likewise hate that aspect of the game.
More needs to be said about this, because poor mental health as a result of this is not something to be mocked or joked about.
-
The quote by the clothing does interest me though: "Her grief reminded her of Alessa Gillespie", which seems to imply 2 seperate individuals. It may not be a legendary set, but still poses the idea of 2 seperate people - 1 of which caused Silent Hill to become a nightmare, and the other attempting originally to escape her past.
-
I prefer being as good as I can be, but it's only ever for personal betterment. It's better when it's purely skill-based for me. Learning the optimum perk build isn't that interesting, compared to skill.
-
Whether it works or not remains to be seen, but I do know taking no action guarantees that nothing will happen, whilst if something was done then the chance will be greater by however much.
As for optimisation, it's odd: Clearly, it's a common problem, but is there an issue solely with HDD, or does it also depend on internet speed, distance from servers, maintenance, etc.?
I ask this because I have an Xbox One, but I don't seem to have nearly the same amount of issues others have, and I've not added any hard drives. Sure, removing the cache from a console alone won't fix the problem, but it seems to work for me, mostly. So it feels there's more affecting performance than just what platform you use.
-
Yeah, I get that. It's likely the ponytail links to "Silent Hill: Origins" than the original, but then there would be a huge disparity in age. I don't think the Entity takes children.
I also understand what you mean by it not being legendary. I look at it that the outfit may not be legendary, but it's not an outfit which can be separated neither, which then follows the pattern of legendary skins as different characters.
Perhaps it's a deliberate design to be very rare, rather than legendary, because although they are 2 different characters, they share the soul - so again adds to the ambiguity of whether Alessa and Cheryl are the same, or only parts of the same whole.
-
The Wraith is absolutely fine to me. He basically wasn't that great in previous form, until they made an add-on base kit and reduced the distance where his shimmer becomes visible.
His add-ons are actually some of the more inspired of any of the killers, and I'd actually like to see similar creativity for other killers. As survivor, he's very challenging but also has weaknesses in terms of coming out of his shroud slower, being the only killer you can attack and hurt with torches (not just blind), and his breathing is pretty loud and directional. Plus, once you see his shimmer, run to a pallet and with his needing to come out of shroud you can really hurt him with a pallet if you get it before he materialises.
The Wraith is very viable and strong in the right hands, but I'd also say he has the most weaknesses of any killer. I'm quite content with how he is to face.
-
This is one of those very few times that there ought to be a code of honour book for all players (not survivor/killer rulebooks). A code whereby players can deal with rare, yet annoying, events.
In this case, if a survivor doesn't want to participate, they should be exposed to a torturous cycle of killer knocking them down, then survivors reviving them, only to knock them down again. Yes, there are lots of holes in this, but it's still fun to think of.
If I'm killer and notice it, I just knock them into dying and leave them to rot. Should they want to waste everyone's time, then I'll waste their time. If they get bored, they can dc and take the penalty.
I've come across the situation you've described so rarely I can only remember one occassion. I was Wraith, and my invisibility allowed me to watch as one survivor repeatedly fail skill checks and make loud noises around 1 survivor in particular. I made myself known, and he tried to escape but failed. I picked him up, took him to the basement and dropped him on the floor, then signalled to that other survivor who followed me to leave. They did and started doing gens, whilst I babysat the survivor until they ultimately dc'd. They were a different platform so got no salt, but I reckon they were raging!

The Alessa skin we have is still Cheryl though
In Silent Hill Lore, Cheryl/Alessa/Heather are all the same person
True, but it's more complicated than that, I feel.
Indeed, Cheryl Mason is a reincarnated version of Alessa. But in lore, Alessa split her soul in 2 to create the original Cheryl which Harry found by the road.
So the Alessa that's portrayed in the skin is only half the soul which ultimately became Heather Mason. Therefore, I'd still say thay Alessa warrants being seen as a separate individual skin, since her soul was split.
Even if there's a debate that the Alessa skin was based on when the soul had not been split, the very fact it was split, resided in a never-ending nightmare, then forced together again in Silent Hill, then reincarnated, the very trauma involved would have the reincarnated soul different to the original Alessa.
They may have the same soul, but they're not the same person, whicu is why I'd count Alessa as her own separate being.
-
If we're including skins for characters, then there's one very powerful character you missed out: Alessa Gillespie.
Being the person who turned a town into her own personal nightmare, I'd say she would have a complete Tier of her own above Ace called "Sends the Entire Umbrella Corporation to eternal damnation".
-
I have no issue with any of them, but in terms of a perk which is powerful without any conditions attached, Adrenaline is the big one. Dead Hard can be outplayed, and a good Dead Hard can make some distance, whilst a bad one will cost the survivor. Lithe has a cooldown. Decisive Strike is punishment for a killer who tunnels, and Head-On is a tactical perk which can be messed up if the killer spots someone enter a locker and gets there before Head-On charges.
Adrenaline gives a free health state and Sprint Burst, regardless of how badly they played, and is even granted when unhooked.
-
Someone disconnecting ruins the trial for others. Whilst I empathise with those wanting to play, but then hit with a powercut or something, even their first ban is 5 minutes, and over a set time it goes away anyway.
Yet those who end up with hours of bans because they don't want to play on a certain map is just childish nonsense, and the problems this makes for others definitely should be punished.
-
I find I play differently with different survivors. With Dwight, there's an element of comedy, but also a much more altruistic approach at his expense. As Claudette, it's a strong healer role, but done as a more tactical than emotional play. As Cheryl, I just feel gutsy and want to take on any killer (oddly, she's one I feel quite antagonistic with). As Meg or Yui, I blitz around the arena and am extremely proactive, whilst as Jake or Jeff I play cautiously and plan more.
Not sure who I play best as, but there's certainly a pattern to it. Same with killers too!
-
What platform are you? On Xbox, you can capture a fair portion of recent play after the event has occured, so you don't need to record constantly. Not sure if that's the same on other platforms, but it makes sense for them to have it.
But yeah, without video evidence it's not going to stand. A photo of a guy with crows around him in a doorway could just as easily been someone who had been afk and just started to move. A photo doesn't show any real context, unfortunately.

If I expected a killer to be around the corner, I wouldn't risk the kobe. Unless if I didn't that's a 4k to the killer, but if he's hovering then it's expecting to be downed, unless you can pull off some slick moves.
But a kobe is just a luck chance. I don't think a survivor would let a killer down them if that killer had jumped from the top floor of the Coal Tower, 360'd and threw a hatchet which randomly hits a healthy survivor. They wouldn't then go "Great shot, Huntress! Here, down me and get your hook!".
-
It's within the rules, so if that's what works, then you be you. The style does only ever promote average game skill at most though. And it's pretty boring to do. Basically, the game just becomes staredown simulator.
-
A few times, sure. But I guess that's why Blood Warden became a thing😁
From both sides, I've know cockiness and seen them fall flat on their arses. Oddly, from my experience, Dead By Daylight has shown many more instances of karma catching up on cocky people than those getting away with it.
-
That's absolutely bannable, or at least punishable. You may need video evidence, so I hope you managed to record it, but if it's conclusive then it's absolutely bannable.
I saw it happen after I was sacrificed once, and watched as one survivor was hunted by both killer and a Feng Min around Haddonfield, with Feng trying to block them. I recorded some stuff, and that guy did too, so no way were those 2 going to survive that.
-
It is rather odd that people should hate it. That's quite a strong word for a few perks which are just that .. perks.
As someone who randomizes every build, I can safely say it never feels like perks were what made the difference. It's the skill of the player, which is often overlooked because BT op, and such comments. I play many combinations - some may have some synchronicity, and some are absolutely pointless - but all those varying types of combinations have never stopped me from being victorious against people and their meta.
I do admit that it does get very dull, knowing that a majority of players are doing the same perks. But I can't really blame that on them. That's a design issue, as well as what influencers suggest. I did propose a mode where everything is randomized, but players get a better reward. However, as one person said, some may feel short-shrifted is they get Slippery Meat and Up the Ante, whilst the killer lucks out with some metas.
Still, I do feel that skill is far more important than perks, and have successfully proven that to myself. Also, it's hard to compare perks when there are many scenarios that can be affected by different perks. Honestly, I'd just recommend people to be more adventurous and find what works for them, rather than live by the same few perks. Nothing beats the feeling of beating 4 red ranks with the meta, when you come armed with Monstrous Shrine, Distressing, Unrelenting and Iron Grip on Trapper!

I was actually responding to your first paragraph which I now realise I entirely misread lol. Some how I thought you meant BHVR dont have empathy and are more concerned with their other troubles than to fix stuff like this. Sorry about that confusion!
That's fine. If anything, you did make me spend a few minutes re-reading my post going: "How the heck ... what am I missing!".😁 No harm done!

Perhaps they should spend more time fixing things that are currently wrong rather than chasing the next chapter then?
The Resident Evil chapter was an absolute farce. The RPD was deactivated in general play for the entirety of it. I literally only started getting the RPD consistently in general rotation about two days before they got rid of the RE menu screen and intro etc. Since the inclusion of that map there have been numerous issues with other maps too that have been disabled that never seem to have needed to be before such as The Game of Dead Dawg Saloon.
Despite that they're now pushing another chapter out. They need to slow down and improve the content they have before adding more. Telltale proved constantly pushing for more content can have detrimental effects.
The game has been out long enough now. It's unacceptable that BHVR doesn't have a team specifically for the social side of the game.
I have absolutely no idea whatsoever why you responded to my comment with a completely unrelated rant, bar 1 sentence at the end about a social team (and even that I'm not sure has any major relevance). There are plenty of other threads you can comment on that would make more sense to put this to.

One of them was drunk, so i got the impression they were dealing with other stuff but i still cannot understand how those people don't have empathy. Assuming they feel badly treated by other people. I don't get why they would want to do that to someone else, knowing it would just contribute to a vicious cycle. Maybe they are in too much pain to realise that, i guess i won't know.
Yeah, they don't know me, but right now i don't feel like a lot people actually do. Because of the pandemic and things i haven't really been socialising much so i've been kinda lonely. So when i judged in this game, or online in general, it's feels much more true than it should, because there isn't much else to go off of.
I guess it's not that they don't have empathy, but moreover they don't care about the other since they're drowning in their own troubles, so choose to be blind to it. Their fears take over others. It's wrong and there is no excuse, but understanding why people do it at least reveals them to be human (if somewhat flawed and ugly).
Also, the internet is too easily used to hide behind an anonymous profile. Someone online with a gamertag like "Bigdick6969" is most likely going to be someone with not nearly as much confidence as their name suggests. People say things they'd never say face-to-face because they can hide behind it with virtually no repercussions (although if the act is deemed criminal, then cyber teams, white hat hackers and police have ways of cyphoning them out). It's their supposed safe space, where they can be who they want to and puke out their venom.
Covid has been especially destructive to those, like yourself, who have been forced into a more isolated existence. With not much else to go on, it can feel like they are the only points to validate yourself with. There are articles you can read about which relate to this about "conditions of worth". It may help you understand yourself more, how to take action and give you more assurance that you aren't what they say.
To those guys, you're actually just a slate they are imposing the bits about themselves they don't like on, but only in their heads. You don't need those stickers; you can be how you wish. Just give yourself some belief and avoid those who can't deal with their own fears in an adult and practical way.
-
Any Adam in a red jacket and street clothing is most likely to be big trouble. For a teacher and a individual of supposed moral upstanding, he's a real prick.
-
There are a lot of idiots out there, amongst the players who play just for the enjoyment factor. It's a shame that many empty minds like to get their kicks out of the suffering of others.
Not that this will be of much comfort to you, but those who act like that are hurting badly from other things, so they lash out at others to share - or at the very least unburden - their pain. Most normal people deal with it in less moronic and more constructive ways, but those who choose not to are not well-adjusted. They put up the pretence that they "do not care about others", yet actually they want nothing more than that.
This psychology won't probably be of much use to you, but sometimes understanding why people are as they are is useful. Still, there is no excuse for them being as pathetic as they were. I hope you are able to get past this and find a place of comfort and happiness. They don't know you, and you're stronger than them.

wth how the frick does that even work?
It's like clicking on a link from a dodgy email. Also, a while back there was a bug on Steam which was exploited by hackers to weaponise profiles. Although that bug has largely been dealt with, it's still a way for people to dupe others into checking profiles to take over the identities. Having a profile with no name is a mystery, and people love a good mystery, so it works as a lure.
-
I like your attitude and I like it that you have found a job, especially since how difficult times have been.
Also, nice to see some positivity about the game. It really is a mammoth task for them to balance and maintain a game that, by all rights, really shouldn't nearly be possible, and it's still an enjoyable experience for me.
You can stay😁

Congratulations! Hope you have a happy 100 more.🎉
