  • That streamer is most likely using the price tag he's paid as a cover up for some really bad experiences that he's hurting from, but is too proud to allow people to discover that, so hides behind a shield of greed because he would rather be seen as some tough individual who doesn't care, rather than someone who is emotionally vulnerable.

It's a miserable existence to live, but if he dwells in it, then you already know he's never going to be truely enjoying the game.

I always liked deja Vu I think it's a tiny bit underrated. Really helps with randoms and not 3 genning. Hell even helps with my swf bc we just sorta play without taking stuff too seriously.

What else you usually run with deja Vu I'm curious?

Every game I play is randomized, so I don't have any setup as such. But I've found any perk that improves toolbox efficiency like Streetwise or Built to Last, or perks like Dark Sense or Alert to help identify where a killer is in relation to these gens has worked well.

  • I have a loosely base-set of rules which I adhere to, dependent upon the circumstances and what's been happening.

General: Always use a randomizer to select perks, add-ons and offerings, unless a mission requires a particular perk. This never changes.

Show honour in victory; be gracious in defeat.

Killer: No face-camping (patrolling is fine, if there's a good reason to).

When there are 2 gens left, anything goes, but up until then no taking advantage.

If there's a survivor who is clearly learning, I'll go lightly and sometimes let them escape.

Survivor: Respect all killers. No teabagging at gates or clicking torches (an exception to the rule is of any killer who face-camps or shows disrespect).

Be a team player, and follow Dwight's quote: "I need you to survive so that I can survive"

  • Was your Steam account hacked and password changed? If so, here are the steps you should take right away, brought to you by LogDog Anti-Hacking.

It is possible that your account can get hacked by viewing dodgy profiles. If it looks suspicious, do not touch.

Above is a link of things to do, should you think you've been hacked. Hopefully, things will be okay.

Yeah those games can definitely happen that is why I said we can be wrong sometimes. I had a game recently in which guy suicided immediately and all the rest of us still managed to escape. It was not easy mind you.

Never is. However, it does feel great when an escape is made during those most dire of circumstances!

  • I use the opportunity to improve aspects of my game I need to and still attempt an escape. Afterall, if it took a while to enter the trial, I want to make the most out of each session if I can. Often, the result is much different to what I expected: once there were 2 of us with 3 gens still to do and we both escaped via the exit gates at Lery's. That was a memoriable match!

  • As a strategist and randomist, for survivor I enjoy having Deja Vu appear in my setup, because I like the idea of making the endgame even more tricky for my opponent, and it has saved many of potential 3 gen.

For killer, although I'm not sure why, but Forced Penance is always satisfying to use.

  • I think "saving" the survivors is a slightly generous take on their leaving a place where there's a little hope to a place with only abominable amounts of pain.

However, Pinhead is a tough cookie, and it's possible he could have found a way to do it. The odd thing is a Mori is a gift from the Entity to killers to have some fun. Why would it leave an open opportunity such as that? Unless its parasitic brain cannot detect this.

Likewise, Pyramid Head has the ability to kill without the Entity's permission (probably part of the deal to get Pyramid Head onboard), and Myers can kill without permission (although I think with him it's a case of he doesn't care).

With non-licensed killers even having moments of difficulty for it, perhaps Pinhead is sending some survivors into Hell, beneath the radar. Unfortunately for those, unless they have the "good fortune" to be painfully twisted into a Cenobite, they'll probably be screaming to return to the trials.

  • It's probably an Entity construct, although your second proposal could be accurate if a couple of zombies wandered into the same fog Nemesis stomped into. At least with the second option those people are already dead prior to being sucked in!

Another proposal could be the Entity found some use for those imprisoned in the Void and 2 were selected and infected with the virus and shoved back into the trials as sub-killers.

  • I know it's not quite the same for a "make your choice" build, but the confusion survivors get when you add Padded Jaws with the Honing Stone is quite fun! Someone helps them out first time and they think it's all great! Escape on their own however, and it's just a fun bamboozling meme-like add-on build.

  • No, the overall penalty is far too harsh, plus there's no penalty for people just wanting to hope out of a game and screwing people over if it's going to be their first or second time.

The current system is far more effective.

  • It's common knowledge many players aren't content with the map, but the claim no killer can win there is clearly false.

Besides, killer skill can offset the map difficulty, and likewise survivors can also be caught out.

If you're willing to lose a couple of early gens with aim of creating a smaller area to watch out for, then the killer has a very good chance. Lose a central gen early on - or one in the houses - and life becomes a whole lot more tricky.

  • The Wraith:

    Add-ons - Coxcombed Clapper; All-seeing Blood

Perks - Lethal Pursuer; BBQ and Chilli; A Nurse's Calling; Make Your Choice

    Offering - Ebony Mori

Basically, just a destructive, speedy and to the point attack that gives no rest once that first hook is made.

  • SBMM was a far better, challenging and more rewarding. I'm really looking forward to when they impliment it.

Since the test stopped, I have found myself with people of very different experience levels in terms of playstyle. I felt sorry for a new Nurse player as when the game ended they had done 1 hook, clearly just started, amd all of us survivors were Green or better, and displayed a much better skillset. That couldn't have been fun for the brave soul learning Nurse, when they would clearly prefer trying Nurse with other new players and feeling a better playing field.

Hopefully, SBMM will returns soon, so people will get a fairer crack of the whip.

  • I do get what he's trying to put across: that a killer can play as lazily as possible and still get rewarded. You can say that about a lot of perks, but the sheer magnitude of an effect NOED can produce is great in comparison to the effort that can be put in.

He didn't shame killers for using it, even though he admitted he didn't like it, and even went so far as to tell someone who said they never facecamp and play fair, yet use it, that there's nothing wrong with that. I never got the impression he was illustrating anything else other than how it could benefit lazy plays - and he said not every killer does that.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that it's a perk that isn't earnt as such, because you're playing a perk down for an endgame that might never happen anyway! But I'm not sure if that's what he meant anyway. Besides, so many perks from "Spine Chill" to "Tinkerer" to "Adrenaline" to "Empathy" to "Bitter Murmur" never have to be earnt, amd that's perfectly fine! That's what perks are for - to enhance an ability somehow.

In the end, I just took the NOED experiment to show how some killers can get 4k without doing anything other than face-camp and show little skill the entire game, and how it could be exploited. Most don't, and therefore NOED feels fine - it's just a small floor in its design.

If anything, his video shows more about how terrible the ranking system is! When 4 high red ranks play as horrendously bad as those 4 survivors did on the game at Haddonfield versus a Trapper (and they did play pathetically - Otz was even seemingly playing a lazy, crap game himself to illustrate the NOED thought), you know there's a big issue with ranking, even if you're really new to the game!

  • Sounds a good idea to me! Maybe not for BHVR financially, but they could release a load of skins alongside to make up the moneys. I'd be fine with that.

  • Dwight and Mathieu Cote definitely! Probably why, when I play as Dwight I'm tunnelled consistently :D

  • It's all just randomized for me, but with the aim of surviving or getting the 4k you need to try to get as much in your favour as you can.

Map offerings can accidentally benefit the opponent, depending on their abilities, knowledge or playstyle. As an example, if I'm playing The Trapper and someone burns a Haddonfield offering, I'm pretty much laughing as 3 gens are guaranteed to spawn in houses, and I just make a trap zone using those 3 lynch pins. As survivor, my love for Silent Hill gives me a good knowledge of where I am in Midwich.

They don't get burnt as often as BP offerings, and also their is that cancellation offering (it is a crap-shoot though), but it's just an opportunity to learn how to turn the maps to your advantage. I honestly do not find them boring.

  • Empathy: For locating and fixing up the injured.

Botany Knowledge: For faster healing and medkit care.

We'll Make It: For fast heal and rescues.

Borrowed Time: For those last-minute, risky saves, or against very defensive killers.

  • What witchery is this? A new perk? "Hex: Fancy a threesome"?

  • It's normally correct to ignore any post-match salt. If there's anything remotely offensive that can be reportable, the best thing is still not to engage, but instead just report and move on.

However, it's still not right for someone to get aggressive towards another player regardless. Understandably, the person lashing out may be having some issues irl, but so too may the person they are lashing out towards.

It's a matter of congruence and empathy from both sides. But ultimately people need to take a step back and not be so impulsive, and not only understand that the person getting angry could be having some problems, but also the person they are raging at.

It's a game. Learn from more honourable people or how to deal with frustrations and failure in more productive ways.

  • Carter's Spark. I do have a - not obsession - but deep interest in madness and fear, so to practice this type of power would appeal to me much more than the others.

  • Here's a list of decent slasher movies you may want to watch (if you have not done so already):

    • I Know What You Did Last Summer

    • Black Christmas

    • Deep Red

    • Slumberparty Massacre 2

    • Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon

    • The House on Sorority Row

    • The Final Girls

    • Urban Legend

    • Intruder

    • Rabies

    • Cold Prey

    • Blood and Black Lace

  • Pyramid Head probably needs to go into the bald section, and not just because there is no hair on the helmet!

This is an image of a figure, based on the Silent Hill 2 Pyramid Head - I'm using it to illustrate it better, because it's a bit clearer:

    cropped81.jpg

In game, there is a bloated, fleshy growth on the back of his head. During times when executioners or soldiers wore heavy helmets, it was documented that they had a water-filled sack to rest the heavy helmets on, so as to support it better and avoid injury. This fleshy substance could be a mockery of this, but in other pictures you can see just beneath the helmet, which also appears very fleshy:

    Red_Pyramid.png

That flesh seems to be all around the helmet, so my guess is that his face is actually a disgusting growth of flesh that's swollen under the helmet.

  • Tinkerer really is fairly simple yo deal with. So long as someone has basic awareness, listens out for killer breathing, positions themselves so that they have a good view around them and it's an easily counterable perk. Having the terror radius suddenly disappear and looking at the progress of the gen is also another easy way of being prepared.

The fact perks like Spine Chill and Perception exist also gives an extra easy way of defending.

This perk is perfectly fine as it is, and with adapting to it and not being so perk-reliant improves the overall observational skills.

  • Quite some time back, I heard that some did escape, but because of the sheer number of people involved that number was almost inperceptible.

I have no idea how, where or who said it though. However, if some did escape, where would it take them? With so many portals open, what wouldnbe the odds of escaping to your own world?

  • We may never truely know how skill is measured for SBMM, but in my mind it's a good thing because if some people understood how it works, then it's 100% guaranteed some will try to manipulate the system.

That’s a cool concept. I think the sun goddess may not exist inside the entity but rather is just the entity itself though

Pyramid Head might by weakening it enough though, albeit it's going to be quite some time. A Goddess of the Sun is more powerful than a Parasitic cosmic entity, but it's going to take a long time, and by then the Parasite may be strong enough to fight back. It's like the longest God-damned game of chess ever witnessed!

My head-cannon is still that of the Entity is merely a role in a larger game, and it oddly fits really well into The Magnus Archives universe, complete with Archivist and the Fears (The Entity is a mix of The Web and The Hunt Fears).

  • Ah! The pain some feel when they're trounced badly enough, and yet refuse to accept any responsibility for their own weak contributions.

They just didn't think tactically enough when getting all bar one person to bring a torch in. Also, by saying that, is that one peraon saying it was because of Lightborn that they lost? Because as that's a perk that does diddly-squat other than defend against flashlights, that's quite an embarrassing for them to admit!

I like my Twinings, but then I do like the Yorkshire Tea - Biscuit and that one alone, I don't drink any other brands, I usually stick to my Twinings and get variety of flavours. I keep in Nettle and Peppermint tea as it's great for when you feel bloated or ill. :)

Camomile is my flavoured tea of choice, although a tea shop nearby (now closed, sadly) served an excellent gunpowder tea, which had a kick worthy of its name.

Mind you, if you really like your tea, visit a shop called Whittards Of Chelsea. They have a darn good selection!

  • As a Brit, I ALMOST was compelled to when you mentioned tea, but then I saw you only had Earl Grey, and I much prefer Dorset Tea or Yorkshire Tea. Earl Grey is tea with Fairy Liquid flavouring🤢

I'll have the scone though! Or Dorset apple cake ... my goodness, that's so delicious, especially with clotted cream!

  • I think if there is only one survivor left bleeding out, the other 3 have been killed, and the killer just watches, then that's the really scummy thing to do.

Your way was your way, but hooking that bleeding out guy and slamming the hatch down, before pursuing the final would most likely have given the same result, but with less anger.

It's possible the report for unsportsmanlike behaviour could succeed, depending on the leniency of the individual making the decision, because it was preventing game progression by forcing someone to wait for 3 minutes and unable to do anything because you had blocked them. I'd just say that it's a tactic not really worth the risk, and also there will be plenty of opportunities for 4k in future.

As for the questions: 1. It's not comparable to the chess scenario. If you blocked their king until their pawn is blocked by your pawn, you have stalemate anyway. It's closest comparison is playing timed chess, and you deliberately hold down your timer, so the other person's runs out. 2. The people who make the decisions go on the quality of the evidence than the quantity of the complaints. Of course, if many people were complaining from different games they might analyse further, but without photo or video evidence it won't go far. If they do have it though, then you may have a problem.

  • That option would work with my tactical approach, but I'd also like to add a couple who deal with cursed grounds: The Hag and The Executioner. Everyone will be watching where they tread, and the floor will potentially be a death trap, especially if Devour Hope gets activated!

  • I doubt this game will ever be balanced, purely because of the complexities of balancing 4v1, whereby nearly every game features different kinds of players who utilise different tactics, perks, skills, psychology, etc.. It's a near-impossible task, whereby if it's balanced at the top 1%, bottom 1%, the 50%, etc., the constant changing of everything ... it's too much in flux, by its vety nature.

The best that can be done is actually what they're trying to achieve now, which is adjusting to every change. Every new playstyle; perk; meme; tactic; perk combinations; matching new and old killers to the ever-changing game; bugs; hacks.

Really, I don't think some people fully respect the gargantuan task BHVR have set themselves, and the fact the game is as balanced in its current state is actually something to be applauded. It's far from easy.

  • It's no bother to me. I actually like seeing myself get Mori'd as a bit of variety, compared to just disappearing into the stratosphere by spider limbs every time.

I've even joked with the killer afterwards, being happy I was chosen for the Ivory Mori or whatever.

Either way, however a sacrifice or being killed is perceived as, it's much more reflective of those who it is being done to, than who is doing it.

  • There are perkless ways to counter both, which have worked well for me.

For Dead Hard, if I suspect they have it, I will bait them and get them to force the Dead Hard. After the initial burst, they have a period where they are slower (however brief) before returning to the normal 4.0m/s. So, forcing it allows the killer to still keep close and will secure that hit in most cases I've forced them. Otherwise, Dead Hard gives a brief boost to get to a pallet, which is just a good way to get to protection sooner.

For Tinkerer, there are a few examples: If you are watching the rate of the gen and it gets to about 70%, and the sound of the killer's terror radius suddenly dips, then that's a very clear sign to be aware. Beyond that, using eyes and ears is always useful, and putting yourself by the side of the gen with the best view around you is necessary. Also, like Myers in Tier 1, killers will be making some sort of sound when almost on you, and although it is tight, a good ear may get you out of harm's way.

Anyway, those 2 perks have counters even without taking into account perks like Spine Chill, Perception and Coupe de Grace. They're tried and tested ways of countering both perks.

  • Has to be, really! Her chase music for one, because I recall that strange, clockwork chase music she had in "Haunting Ground" was absolutely unnerving!

Just heard it again now, and it's still eeiry and unnerving (maybe more so when in a chase), although it is quite funny - like a very basic pre-cursor to dubstep! 😆

Here's the link for anyone who wants to hear: it's about a minute long.

  • Both from a killer and survivor perspective, SBMM was far better for me. Sure, as killer it was more challenging, but I rose to it and if anything feel quite happy that the game thought my skills were good enough to be at that caliber - also got decent results that felt well-earnt!

I'm looking forward to it returning.

  • @VioletCrimes said:

    “Haunting Ground”

Loved that game! Still have the PS2 disc, which I may dust off and try again soon.

Still remember the rather grotesque sounds on all the "game over" screens!

  • I'm already missing SBMM. The matching has gone absolutely terribly since it was taken down - well, probably an exaggeration, but there is a notable quality of match-making dip since SBMM was removed.

  • It's certainly biting more than it can chew.

It already has some problems with less powerful killers: Anna can temporarily lose connection with the Entity, forcing the red stain to disappear (which I suddenly thought of now can be taught, and therefore other killers are able to break that stain), Rin is barely controlled due to her sheer rage and Myers really doesn't give a damn regardless.

Adding a creation from the Sun Goddess's realm and one of the most powerful denizens of Hell, it's pushing the limits. This'll either pay off, or cause a chaos that may make The Entity's universe-devouring nature feel like a blessing!

Pinhead is bound by some rules of the realm, but it also appears that the Entity cannot prevent survivors being dragged to Hell when he gets the Mori (unless this is a hallucination Pinhead is subjected to). Still, that feels like a weakness. Also, Pyramid Head tortures the realm constantly, probably feeding off all the guilt there and breaching gaps for the Sun Goddess.

Ironically, this cosmic parasite has started to acquire its own parasites. Whether to relieve it of the burden it carries, or a consequence of sheer gluttony, it's not the only feeder here.

  • TV Shows:

    • "Ghosts" - British comedy about a young couple (Alison and Mike) who move into a huge house, where Alison starts seeing ghosts who are a complete melting pot of characters, from a disgraced politician, an alleged witch burnt at the stake, a scout master and even a neanderthal. Suffice to say, nothing is ever straight forwards! Currently starting its 3rd season.

    • "Chance In A Million" - A bizaar, under-rated British sitcom from the 80s which features the escapades of Tom Chance - a very pleasant but thick individual, who has some strange curse about him that means the most unlikely events cause absolute chaos around him, which he feels is perfectly normal. Happens so much, that he's a regular at the police station, where the guy in charge keeps apologising for him being arrested out of a string of odd coincidences.

  • Possibly, although I think it's becoming a feeding frenzy in the realm now! The Entity already fed on Hope and strong emotions. Then Pyramid Head entered (willingly, I may add, after agreeing an unspoken contract of sorts), and with it the Sun Goddess, which feeds off guilt, justice and the inner-self. Now Pinhead has arrived to feed off pleasure and pain.

The realm is now starting to feel like the feeding frenzy of a bait ball!

    Bait ball 3.jpg

  • Yeah, SBMM was actually a lot more fun and involving. It made the game feel a heck of a lot more intense. Loved both the even skill-level of team mates, tough-but-fun killers, and challenging survivor opponents.

I hope they bring it back soon.

  • MMR was a vast improvement on the current system, from my experience as both killer and survivor. Now the MMR has been taken off, it doesn't feel quite right and certainly not the same caliber of games.

It's been mentioned before, but since MMR is based on data acquired largely from the uneven ranking system, many may have seen sudden spikes, whether it becomes too hard or too easy. But it would be a reflection on the individuals actual results in whatever skills they're being based on, and so someone who constantly got easy opponents may be seen as being highly skilled, and ultimately seen a hard shift in the level of play they may actually not be good at, compared to their rivals.

On a somewhat sadistic note, I'm hoping the deliberate derankers got a shock to the system!

  • Best thing to do is request a refund regardless. Nothing ventured - nothing gained! They may be sympathetic, being as how close you were to when the price changed.

Lol, Pinhead = Ph. Aka “Acid”. That’s my new name for him!

(I understand he could be “Alkaline” as well, or even ”Neutral”, but come on, Acid is just so much better!)

Nerd fact: pH stands for "Power of Hydrogen"! So, it's not the catchiest of names, but from now on I'm gonna dub him The Power Of Hydrogen!

    Science rules!!🧑‍🔬

  • Yeah, I was getting confused with that too.

Honestly, if people want Pinhead to have the same letters that's fine, but as Pinhead is one word, just make the "h" in lower case.

Therefore, Pyramid Head = PH, Pinhead = Ph.

Although, I do think it's probably better to not follow my advice here.

  • If I remembered right, during the 5th anniversary stream they said there will be 2× maps this year. I'm not sure whether that was inclusive of Resident Evil or not, but bearing that in mind and how this killer and survivor are being released seperately, then I'm gonna hazard a guess the next map might be the mid-year chapter.

1 … 66 67 68 69 70 … 98
