  • If I'm leveling a character just for teachables, I go for the cheapest things I possibly can. I plan my spending around forcing the entity to snack on the bottleneck nodes that also snap up 2-3 other nodes. All I care about is savings.

If it's a character I main, I go for fun stuff. As a survivor, medkits, autoheals and bandages, followed by maps, extra map time, keys and key add-ons (I don't use keys to escape, so dulls I often avoid. Green and Skeleton are my fav's). I also avoid BP offerrings that aren't Cake, Pudding, or BPS. I avoid cheap mists, but I go for the purples. I also go for White/Black Wards because they are effectively two free add-ons of my choosing. I avoid Mori's, just because I never use them. Not even yellows.

If I don't have all perks, I prioritise the highest tier perk (unless there's another one I've been waiting for). I prefer to get trash out of my web than leave it in to take up precious nodes. And once I've got all perks, I stop caring about forcing the entity to nom nodes and just buy whatever, wherever. Screw efficiency. I'm in no rush to get to the next web, not unless my current one is legit trash (which almsot never happens).

I also have a wierd relationship with map offerrings. Sometimes I snap them up, other times I just don't care, and never do I ever use them except in extremely rare scenarios, just because specific green offerrings are so rare. Red Forest ones are my fav's.

  • Old Freddy. I never really played as him, but it was fun going against him. Constantly being exposed (as in literally exposed, not DbD's 1-shot mechanic)? Choosing between him knowing where you are or regressing a generator that little bit extra? The falling asleep mindgames? I wish they had buffed Old Freddy instead of taking him out back and beating him to death with fake pallets, snares and gen teleportation.

  • Like it or not, it's easy for kids to avoid age restrictions for everything so long as their parents don't activly try to restrict them. And as long as someone's mature enough, who cares. I've met plenty of people twice my age acting like babies. Why not have someone half my age acting like a saint.

  • Freddy. Super-strong, super-easy bloodpoint machine. He is my go-to BP farmer. Who cares if you only get 30k points instead of 32k, it took you 5 minutes and now you're in another lobby.

  • Dead Hard: the perk that does too much for free.

Well, if you play solo on ranks high enough to see ruin+undying every game and you are not prepared to deal with totems by some perks or items, and also you don't know when you have to sit on gens - you are definately missing the strategic aspect of this game.

I love how some people just make up random crap to justify themselves. Seriously, take the teeniest peek at the other replies I've made in this thread. Or don't, I don't particularly care. I'm not a fan of strawman debaters.

  • @Looping4Dayz said:

In my honest opinion it ruin undying is allowed then they shouldn't be nerfing power struggle and flip flop. I mean there are lots of strong killer builds ( e.g Ruin undying tinkerer ) yet as soon as a semi-decent survivor build is added it gets nerfed. Seems kinda stupid to me. All killers have to do is avoid pallets yet survivors have to cleanse all 5 totems which in solo queue wastes too much time. They then have to deal with tinkerer which is balanced but against a decent billy, huntress, blight or slinger is pretty strong.

There really isn't that many strong killer builds, to be honest, and they all center around generator defence and so pretty much play out the exact same way. Which is sad, because there's plenty of potentially strong builds, it's just that they rely on survivors not doing the thing they are supposed to be doing.

And I don't think that anyone truly believes that Flip Flop/Power Struggle is OP, it's just unfair since the forced meta is snowballing and anti-snowball perks are already extant and ridiculously strong. It's almost like if they released Ruin 2: Electric Boogaloo

  • What exactly do you think hackers like to do?

Well, like, you aren't supposed to win against killer if you are the only survivor in the team who knows what to do. Whether you like it or not, survivors play as a team, and if you are the greatest player ever, but your team sucks - you should lose. That works like that in any game with random teammates - sometimes they are good, sometimes they are not, that's just a matter of luck.

It's hard to say that your teammates suck when both you and them are checking spots the other had already done.

Skill isn't binary. It's not lose = suck. There's a lot that goes into DbD, and easily the biggest factor is co-ordination. Call a team bad all you want, there's a reason I consider solo lobbies free wins, and it isn't because bad players play solo. In fact, it's usually the opposite.

  • I want a monochromatic Ghostface sweater that's just a knit reprint of the amazing opening scene.

I would say it's very map dependent.

Maps like Autohaven,Macmillan and Coldwind are easy but any indoor map or saloon is pretty awful.

Yeah... Fair enough, I suppose, but there's still the problem of teammates+mobility killers on those open maps.

But it is true, knowing the spawns on Lery's doesn't ######### help when you have to go and check each one individually and in great detail. Because ######### Lery's totems. With a spiked pole.

Unless I'm the killer, in which case yay indoor map with totems (and ######### indoor map as Blight)!!!

Run a rainbow map with crystal bead (Purple Add-on) and odd stamp.

It's not enough to know where the totems are. I know almost all the totem spawns, I regularly run Detectives Hunch with a map and Inner Strength. It still wastes too much time just because of the lack of co-ordination.

  • True, there is a noticeable lack of rain. But there could not be...

  • And thanks to Freddy, so can I!

And also Ghostface, but I lose when I do it as Ghostface :(

  • Honestly, since the rework I feel like Shelter Woods is almost a Red Forest map. The only link it has to the rest is the brickwork maze tiles

  • The Twins: The only killer(s) in the game whose power is actively detrimental. Also the only killer(s) in the game with counterplay for absolutely everything their power can do. A link may exist...

  • Have you ever actually tried to break all 5 totems? Personally? While playing solo? With no way of knowing what your team is doing? Without dedicating an entire build to breaking totems? Or getting under a teammates feet?

Apparently she had a bug last patch that made her balanced, but they "fixed" it, so I don't think they plan on changing her :(!! But hey, at least we can.... um, we can... we can like, hide in a locker until gens get done? I don't know

The bug wasn't even that great, it only effected Spirits that used their power too much. The good ones that know she's insanely fast, only needs to phase for half a second, and could brute force through everything? Yay, counterplay! We got to hear sort of the general direction the sword was hitting us from!

Still, it did highlight that there is a difference between a bad Spirit and a good one. And it was amazingly fun to try and use her breathing to mindgame people...

Yeah, I'm very aware of the knife pointing thing. I'm saying that I THINK (I will admit that I'm not 100% on this) he also has a tell in Tier 3 if he also has Tombstone Piece/Judith's Tombstone.

Killers will always take bait, even when they know better. A good bait, is a good bait.

Ehhhh, I don't really see it that way. If everyone is hawking around the Killer shack because someone is in a basement hook, and I see someone trying to conspicuously lead me away, I'm going to take a few steps away and then double back. What you're describing is just typical Survivor gameplay that can and should be played around in general. Even the crouch thing, if I notice that pressing the hook button somehow did nothing, the first thing I will do is look down to see if someone is trying to be cute.

Once a person has been on the hook, the other Survivors should make SAFE rescues, and that person should stay at the periphery and work Generators as far from the Killer as possible.

Again, this is kinda just general tips to play the game decently (again, barring Borrowed Time). The thing that the Ivory Mori does is shortcut by a lot the amount of work that the Killer needs to put in to knock someone out and gain momentum. You say "why not get the Killer to go after you and get them off the Survivor who has already been hooked?" I say "why bother changing targets when the one I am going after is going to net me an incredible amount of momentum because they are primed to be Mori'd?" Unless the one you are initially chasing is super good at being chased to the point where it becomes a liability to chase them too much (which ALSO is lessened in penalty if you have the Mori to make that whole chase effectively count for two chases AND two walks to hooks), you don't really have good reason to switch courses beyond "I don't want to tunnel people too hard because I'm just playing for funsies".

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1775836#Comment_1775836

Sorry, when I said "different from how you play normally," I was referring to how it's different from how one should ideally play against a Killer, not how that difference from your own personal play patterns. I'm asking how playing super safe against a Mori player is any different from playing super safe against a non-Mori player. As a follow-up, how is that any different from playing super safe against Myers?

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that competent players are not a good barometer against a killer that practically loses by default.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1775811#Comment_1775811

Here's the problem: If the Killer has a mori, what incentive do they have to take any sort of bait? All they need to do is take out a single person with the Ivory mori, and the momentum shifts in their favor considerably. The Killer has no problem with taking the one-for-one trade because that's still going to slow things down for the other side, and you can only willingly do that so many times before you run out of people who haven't been hooked yet and have to face the inevitability of someone being knocked out early.

Also, I'm not exactly sure I can verify this, but I have heard that Myers has a tell with regards to whether he has one of the tombstone add-ons or not. I think if his free hand is open-handed while he is in Tier 3, he has an insta-kill primed. Also, if Myers is taking a noticeably long time to reach tier 3, you know that he has either a Tombstone add-on or Fragrant Tuft, both of which you wanna REALLY go out of your way to avoid letting him reach too quickly.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1775815#Comment_1775815

How is that any different from just how you play normally? What makes that a better strategy against a mori specifically? The Killer doesn't need to play any differently until they get their first hook.

Normally I play to have fun and outsmart the killer and get better and all that. Playing safe is a miserable experience for everyone involved, which is why I like to play killers that punish that (such as Blight).

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1775772#Comment_1775772

I mean, how safe can you play against a Mori offering, really? There's really nothing you can do about it. Against a stalking offering, you can still outplay Myers the way you normally would, only it would be more effective because of the increased stalk requirement. Sure, you can offset that with the increased stalk speed add-ons, but I don't think against competent players, that would end up being more effective in terms of momentum than booting out a single survivor with an Ivory mori.

Do you not know what playing safe is? It's when you don't take risks at loops and drop pallets relatively quickly, after maybe a loop or two. The killer cannot hit you and cannot play the pallet unless it's a Badham-style junk tile, and eating all the pallets on the map doesn't matter if their teammates are just doing gens and also play like that.

  • Yes, in the sense that it's nice to have broken toys to pull out every once in a while.

No, in the sense that some toys are too broken and too common.

  • @TAG said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/1775748#Comment_1775748

I don't think I'd agree with that. With an Ivory Mori, it basically just takes a single chase to set someone up to be knocked out of the game, assuming no Borrowed Time. Down, hook, and as soon as they are unhooked, tunnel them down (which you can easily do if you hang by the hook and if there's no Borrowed Time) and knock out of the game. With Myers, you need to stalk your way up to Tier 3, which is going to be more difficult than it would normally be as a result of the add-on increasing the amount of stalk you need. Against less competent players, you could make such a case, but against good players (which I think is what is more important), it could realistically be a challenge to make your way to Tier 3 in a timely manner.

Against competent players, they'll see a hidden killer offering and play safe, invalidating any additional speed you might have in the stalk-vs-chase department.

And also, there is such a thing as stalk speed add-ons.

It's really not given it slows your power to a crawl. It's stronger than no addons or the average addon, but it's far from even huntress's Iri heads.

You can outright shut that down unlike mori's and iri heads.

It is easier and quicker to use than an Ivory Mori and leaves you, at worst, as a 16m TR M1 killer at 3-4 gens, assuming you have literally no other add-ons or perks and refuse to ever use your power again.

  • Yeah, it's pretty much a repeatable Ivory Mori that requires stalking instead of hooking. Not quite an Ebony Mori, but stronger than a basic old Ivory, which is in itself ridiculously overpowered.

  • Legion. They're nice, simple, great for warming up, actually a fair bit better than people give the credit for, and also I'm addicted to getting that sweet, sweet Legion Instadown (Stabbing someone in Frenzy to injure them, them dropping the pallet on your head at the same time, and you having Spirit Fury/Enduring).

  • I was on Father Campbell's Chapel, as Pig, when this random Bill just tried to drop-assassinate me from the second floor window while I was crouching around. I know I'm supposed to be the big scary killer, but you try having ######### Christmas Bill land literally on top of you, completely out of the blue, with zero warning, and not have to change your underwear.

I’ll happily accept all of your Haddonfields

...you can have all my MacMillians

Dude/ette, I would totally take that. I have been getting Haddonfield offerings what feels like every third trial, and I just cannot stop ######### dying in the wierdest places. Seriously, I found a House of Pain that actually didn't spawn any pallets. I didn't even know that could happen! I know it's glitch, but still. I'll take the new, wierd, whacky MacMillians over that any day

  • You mean make Prestige a full, proper set that you can select with the button on the left of the cosmetics tab?

  • I'm just completely indifferent to the whole situation. Unless I'm running Deliverence, in which case sit back and watch me yeet right into your farming face, because the only way you're near me when I Deliverence is if you're going for a farm (I am very impatient).

  • Never fear, I also hate them. I don't like stealth and I don't like breakable walls.

  • Overall? Kate. She's my main, I like her lore, I like her looks, and I like that there's more than 1 set of clothes that I just randomly switch out pieces of. Seriously, I don't play dress-up with any other character, I just have a skin I stick to.

  • I mean, if it's in the game, use it. Seriously, if no-one used Haddonfield offerings for easy wins then it would be much harder to pinpoint the problem.

  • Casual games are meant to be fun. Having someone go out of their way to make your experience miserable isn't fun.

  • Something similar to a Future Predator from Primeval. I like the idea of a killer that can detect you from across the map if you're making noise. Also, those things still give me nightmares.

  • I think that would be great. It'd show people that everyone's the same and that the specific-platform hate is foundless. Also, it would tell me whether or not I'm just screaming into the void when I say gg's.

  • So, kill DbD like Rockstar killed GTA online?

  • As a former Plague main that is also getting back into the groove of playing her, I would honestly suggest sticking with pop/corrupt until you have tier 3 Ruin. She is almost the archetypical snowball killer, so Ruin does indeed do wonders, especially with Undying, but tier 1 Ruin is a bit of a joke.

I would suggest replacing I'm All Ears with Infectious Fright - you should be able to hear infected people coughing through walls to get a good idea of where they are, however if you want to keep I'm All Ears (it is pretty decent with Corrupt Purge, after all) then I would suggest replacing Surveillance for IF instead. Either way, IF is a must have on Plague. Either everyone is instadownable or you have the second strongest power in the game active and you NEED to use it as much as possible.

  • Gens are broken. Genrushing is impossible to beat, the math just doesn't add up. So, naturally, people try to slam gens as fast as possible (not actual genrushing), and killers try and slow them down as much as possible. The Devs bandaided this core gameplay issue with slowdown perks. And now, as with Hex perks and Hex defence, it is just grandfathered in. They aren't going to rip out 18 perks THEN rebalance the game, that's too difficult.

  • Bubba. His counterplay is to feed him pallets while your team does gens. Which requires your team to be doing gens.

  • Bubba's got the stronger chase power now, but Billy still has mobility and a decent chase power. And mobility counts for a hell of a lot.

  • He gonna get that PH treatment. And it's probably gonna be just as effective.

  • I have indeed been spooked by the random rushing sounds and screen effects that my brain apparently forgot how to ignore, yes.

  • I sometimes dodge lobbies when I see I'm going against a full party loaded with items and I'm just playing some off-meta build on an average killer or whatever. I get enough bully sim as Blight, I don't need to chance dealing with it as Legion of Clown. Not all the time, at least.

It's not a matter of Git Gud Scrub either, I play at red ranks in the evening. The chances of getting a bunch of chill friends that just want a normal trial (and won't play safe and slam gens) are too slim for my liking. And by "too slim" I mean usually once in every 8-9 full party trials.

You have to know that BHVR is a small indie studio. It's only natural that they can't do everything at once :((((((

I'm definetely not salty about the unfinished and glorified purple skin for my boi oni that they try to sell us as """"legendary skin"""".Nope not at all 🙄

Yes, an indie studio so small and poverty stricken they cannot even afford to write an apology paragraph stating that they cannot afford to follow up on their promise just yet but that they absolutely will when time and resources permit.

Also, still my favourite Oni skin. Not quite worth, but close.

  • @OniWantsYourMacaroni said:

They could totally sell that as legendary skins, but they would have to change the voices for that though

You mean they would have to do the thing they said they were going to do but immediately threw away for the very first legendary killer skin with zero explanation?

    Oh. Oh, those poor developers.

  • Not that much. I don't seem to face any killer more than the rest, and I definitely don't go against the same character 6 trials in a row or whatever.

  • Myers. It's almost heresey for most people to say that he's one of the easiest and also one of the weakest killers in the game, but it's the truth. Any killer with such a huge handicap as T1 whose power burst is being an M1 killer with a slightly longer lunge and faster vault? Not great.
