Remember: when people say "balance maps around high level play", they often mean "balance maps as if good survivors are playing against relatively bad killers".

Those tiles are free hits in high level play. High level play meaning good killer vs good survivor. There's no downside to playing the short side of that pallet as a killer because there's nothing the survivor can do with the other side of that tile from that angle. Normally the short side of a pallet comes with risks of extending the loop. That's not the case with this one.

Well said, exactly my issue with this

  • @danielmaster87 said:

I've seen many survivors successfully play these tiles. It's not as if it spawns on its own in the middle of nowhere. If it's that weak to you, extend the loop. Make the killer think you're gonna loop there, but as soon as you break los, hold forward to the next loop, as you can see with that other pallet there.

This is all well and good but you absolutely must force the killer to play you to the inside of the loop in this case and there isn't anything to mindgame here to connect loops. You are going to take a hit/down regardless unless the killers brain falls out their ears

  • @RainehDaze said:

So... why should every feature that can spawn on a map automatically be good for looping? Can't everyone share in the misery of bad map gen?

I don't think every tile should be ultra safe but these are absolutely useless, they are literally only there to fill in a gap on the map but have no real value. I accept weaker tiles and unsafe pallets do and should exist but they should not be absolutely pointless and if RNG spawns multiple you pretty much will lose that match

  • Yeah they should be removed really.

Though personally I only use them when I am getting the same maps over and over and I feel like a change as survivor but I never offer a Meat Plant, Haddonfun or pre-school etc. My main killer was Nurse and I would only send myself to Lery's otherwise just go with random RNG

You just when you get a Lery's offering it will be a Tombstone Myers or Dr, or if you get Autohaven or MacMillan it is going to probably be Nurse or Blight...

Map offerings generally are not used for good

  • You are so right though... I was just thinking the other day that I may dodge lobbies where I have multiple team mates with flashlights. They almost always waste time chasing around the killer so they can (fail to) get flashlight saves instead of doing something useful like gens.

A half decent killer with a brain loves these players, as they get two people off gens just by chasing one and flashlight blinds are very easy to avoid in most instances.

This is why as killer you should not be scared of flashlights in your lobby, they are far less of a threat than 4x toolboxes or medkits

It's tiresome. Solo bad easy updoots.

Dead by daylight has the exact same issues every team game has. Namely that your team is comprised of human beings with their own desires and will. They do not do the stuff you want them to do or that you think is best, leading to frustration. Nothing is ever going to change this unless solo queue whiners get the ability to mind control and micromanage their teammates actions. If that miraculously happened they'd end up playing a very stale, rote game that they'd get tired of very quickly.

This is pointless derision of people playing the game but does not address the fact that solo queue is the weakest role in the game and this perk punishes the weakest significantly to the point it alone can create a win condition. If anyone can justify that, I have not heard argument how

  • @[Deleted User] said:

I am quite tired of bad killers being carried by wildly overtuned perks and synergies like Eruption/CoB. A player should lose against better players or be matched with players they can compete with. They shouldn't be able to make up skill deficits with ridiculous perks. If it takes a killer 15-20 minutes to 4k, they've been thoroughly outplayed.

Amen, this sums up how I feel about it.

Just had a match that was exactly like that against a Wraith and it became entirely a battle of attrition due to Eruption. We were all solos (as far as I could tell) but bit by bit every resource on the map to the point you literally had to do gens knowing you had nowhere safe to go. The killer just held a 4 gen we could not break and the match went on forever... very frustrating.

  • @YOURFRIEND said:

Blah blah blah solo bad. You ever get sick of seeing the same thing over and over and over?

No because they are right and I am glad to see others are calling this absolutely broken ######### out. It cannot continue like this

  • @Starrseed said:

That is true but I can assure you if we say hey we nerf geb regression and eruption in particular we can turn that post around in three weeks and say survs only win because of Gen builds.

And this is not me trying to spit on survivor. I think if both sites come with Gen builds all would work out fine maybe even then eruption is a bit much for solo but it would be far more manageable. The problem for both sites is you don't know what comes up from the other site so maybe you have a chase build as killer and get owned cause gens get done fast or you got a chase build as survivor but you can't fight the Gen regression

I get all that and I am not against gen regression, though builds that are entirely gen regression are very tedious to deal with. This is the first gen regression perk I find myself cursing out loud about and it actually makes me angry lol

It cannot continue like it is, this perk needs addressing asap as no perk should make every match a misery or nerf solo queue even more than it already is

  • I am so sick to death of this perk, it makes solo queue miserable and when it is stacked with other gen control perks it creates scenarios where solo teams default lose the match entirely because of perks.

I used to feel that Pain Resonance may become an issue as it has no cooldown but that perk has at least some counter but solos just cannot do anything about it.

  • @bazarama said:

Why bother having killers at all? Let the survivors play in a land of unicorns and pretty flowers.

If a killer camps etc it's their choice. It might be unpopular but trying to enforce survivor "rules" doesn't wash.

You pay your money. Play how you want

Nobody cares if killers kill, people just want to play the game.

When a killer just stands by a hook themselves and the person they are camping are denied the best part of the game - the chases. You are ruining the game for someone else and they don't get to 'play how they want' because someone else denies them the fun part of the game to instead stand in one spot

  • It would be great if they could find a way to address the camping and tunnelling hard off hook issue. There are perks/tactics (do gens) to deal with it already but they aren't that effective and don't seem to discourage it much.

It would be great if chases were more of an incentive to some killers but I suspect that no matter what you do there will be those people who will still face-camp/tunnel for pure troll value to get a reaction.

  • Well all I can say is I would not mind Hag but it seems a lot of newer players have no idea how to deal with Hag and it makes games incredibly easy for her.

The only Hags I have seen lately have scroll wheel for their traps so they can insta-teleport and Franklin's seems to be meta for the Hag community to counter flashlights I guess. These factors make Hag quite annoying for me, more so than her actual design.

Chase Hag is a LOT of fun but sadly I can count on one hand how many times I have versed one of them

  • I started DBD Jan 2019 and while I think a lot has improved, I still miss a lot about those times as well. For me a big part is the increase in really unfun killers like Trickster, Pinhead or Twins (the latter I rarely see thankfully), plus back then tunnelling off hook and camping were still pretty universally viewed as shameful and you would be a social pariah in the local DBD community to be shunned.

But they have made a lot of QOL improvements and the game looks a lot better now... so there is that. Plus I do acknowledge I could be painting the past with rose coloured glasses and if I actually played 2019 DBD now I may find it unbearably bad

  • Um, objectively the game is not balanced by the very nature inherent in the design - an asymmetrical game.

DBD will not and cannot be balanced, they can only make changes to address the inherent balances present as best as possible but when you add RNG to an asymmetrical game...

  • The Iron Will nerf was the only change that I really was upset with (DH change was the best and most necessary imo) and I don't think the perk needed this much of a nerf.

That being said, it can still be useful if you don't crutch on exhaustion perks and feel lost without them and it can be a lot of fun now as killers really do not expect you to be using it since the nerf. I get away with some crazy stuff with new IW

  • No, just that skins are totally not worth the money and completely unnecessary to get enjoyment from the game.

I only take the free ones now

  • I have more hours in survivor but I do play both sides, though recently at the hours I play they give 100% bonus for survivor and killer queues are generally pretty bad. Which makes a change from a year ago when survivor games took forever to find...

Lately I actually don't feel like playing killer much anyway and have been enjoying survivor, so the matchmaking bonus works out well

  • Not at all, I don't buy skins any more though I have in the past.

I dunno where you are in the world but skins often cost more than an entire DLC where I live, which is just utterly ridiculous and I refuse to waste my money on this. Though as a former Nurse main I am embarrassed to admit I was stupid enough to purchase most of her skins... but these days I mainly play survivor and I only use free rift skins and I quite like default skins to go sleeper mode

I will not say no to free skins most times though but I will not buy any DLC for skins

  • With basekit BT some survivors are getting very greedy as they pretty much get a guaranteed safe unhook if the survivor attempts to get away.

I personally prefer the punish the unhooker as the poor sod on the hook doesn't have much say in the situation and being tunnelled is not a nice experience

  • @[Deleted User] said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3266317#Comment_3266317

There is no perk combination that is going to reliably show a survivor when a teammate is about to go into the dying state. DbD isn't a counterpick game on that level.

Exactly and as I keep saying, this perk punishes the already weaker solo queue players not the SWF's

Either way, I think it will end up getting looked at as the perk is downright frustrating to deal with in solo queue and has no real counter play.

  • Been playing for a few hours and man this perk is annoying and worse still it punishes solo players the most.

I was in a game where at least 2 of my team mates were in a SWF, so I worked with two of them on every gen and their team mate was obviously telling them when they were about to go down, so they could indicate to me when to also hop off the gen to avoid Eruption.

So against SWF's Eruption was getting virtually no value but against solos it is making life miserable. Something has to change with this perk that is for sure

  • I have Russian friends who are some of the nicest people I have ever met (not matching the gaming stereotype) and they have zero control over what their government does. Even if they disagree they cant really express it too loudly and like us they just want to play games and forget about life for a while.

I actually purchased games for a Russian friend as they cant buy stuff like RE etc as for some reason certain companies decided to punish individuals as if this somehow affects their leader. I hate this virtue signalling personally, it doesn't hurt anyone it supposedly is meant to

  • It is probably the most annoying perk to deal with in solo queue, which is pretty much all I play. I hope they take a look at it as it really is very unfun dealing with Eruption with multiple other slowdowns too

  • The most significant reason I feel that most of my random solo queue games are lost is that survivors don't do gens.

All the best players I know are humping gens the second they are not being chased but so often when I get hooked I see team mates doing absolutely nothing.

That being said, I feel like a lot of people just don't want to deal with killers that tunnel and camp and they just want to go next and I totally understand this too.

  • Fun is subjective but I get it, I find GF very annoying to face but I can tolerate him.

It just annoys me that I can see him clearly, I can even stop and turn to face him and he can still expose me. I also hate that he can expose me from further away than I can reveal him and the entire reveal thing seems so inconsistent.

For me unfun is Trickster, Pinhead or Legion (I would say Twins but thankfully never see them) but I do understand why people hate GF and his janky reveal mechanic

  • Oh wow I didn't even realise others got a different icon if they don't own the DLC...

It could well come back at some point, no doubt when Netflix wants to cash in on the franchise after people lose interest again lol. But BHVR may not even want to pay for licencing even then but it is clearly still heavily requested so never say never imo

  • I don't see it any more than usual in solo queue but I am starting to think I may run it more due to the amount of multiple slowdown builds I see lately. Of course it is pretty strong that it allows you to power through the last gen instead of healing and anything that does that is pretty strong.

I imagine others are thinking the same thing as the mass gen slowdown thing is getting a bit frustrating at this point

  • Autodidact - I would love to get 5 stacks but every time I seem to get Plague or just don't get to heal anyone.

  • It is really annoying but the only real counter is do gens as fast as possible so you can hopefully get at least two out.

It is pretty sad that someone can 'win' a match by essentially doing nothing for most of it but in solo queue I see survivors fall for this tactic over and over by pretty much throwing themselves on the hook too. Oh and if you get hooked, don't just give up but instead struggle til the last second to buy your team mates time... I had a Bubba DC recently when I did this lol

  • This is where the biggest issue lies as far as I am concerned.

Nurse is strong and of course her attacks being special attacks, along with double range (in particular) being nerfed could all help to make her easier to deal with. But as a former Nurse main the biggest issue I find is 90% of survivors appear to have no idea how to counter her beyond a corner juke or obvious double back. They appear to be all out of ideas after one or two obvious tactics and will even drop pallets randomly mid chase out of desperation.

As a Nurse main I found I often got sloppy and went on autopilot mode, so when I did face actual good survivors I sometimes got rolled as I became lazy and complacent and didn't expect good countering. This is the problem, most players ARE casual in DBD and they are not able to deal with a killer as strong as Nurse when played competently and this is incredibly unfun for your average casual to deal with.

    Something definitely has to change

  • Legion is a very unfun killer to verse in my subjective opinion.

There is not much more irritating than a killer you pretty much cannot avoid who can get cheap injures on you that forces you to repeatedly mend - a very tedious task.

Worse still for the Legion themselves, if survivors play smart and counter them they should split up all over the map and not waste time healing but rather gen rush instead. So Legions power kinda screws themselves over as smart survivors end up doing gens far faster, you get pressure split all over the map and your frenzy becomes useless for finding others as they are all working gens injured on opposite sides of the map.

Legion only really does good against solo queue players who insist on healing constantly and bunching up on gens and unfortunately this works a lot in solo queue in my experience.

Overall Legion may be less annoying than they used to be but not that much

  • It does feel like they make it far harder than it should be to report cheaters. I have reported via the in game function but never bothered with uploading vids etc so probably nothing happened as a result

  • @CBT137 said:

if you can’t sit still for 4 minutes you may have a problem, slugging is only a problem if it is done to bm

No it isn't just a problem with BM, people want to play the game not be stuck on the ground for 4 minutes.

If this is engaging gameplay to you... well...

  • @Rovend said:

A slug in the middle of a game is ok, like the killer downs a surv and start chasing a 2nd one that is close.

Slugging for the 4k is the worst way to finish a game. The type that kills all fun and makes you wonder why are you still playing dbd

I agree, I absolutely despise being slugged for the 4k and it makes me want to just leave the match.

I have always hated the hatch for this reason - if a killer wants a 4k secured they really have to slug and for the person being slugged it can mean 4 minutes on the ground if your team mate hides it out and this far from a fun experience. I wish I could just choose to concede at this point so I can move on to another match where I can actually play the game.

I understand slugging for pressure as it is a useful tool and I accept that but slugging for the 4k or worse still, toxic killers that slug everyone to bleed them out is just the worst

  • I don't know I would call Legion or Plague "pretty fun" personally, I would rate them as very annoying but fun is of course subjective as I don't mind Nurse or Blight but sweaty builds can make them very annoying

  • @egg_ said:

The game changers are the add-ons imho

Stacked slowdowns is yikes already but pair it with strong addon combinations and it's just an easy 4k

Pretty much. I have seen people play Nurse with all slowdown builds and it is just horrible to go against. I would argue that even without any addons a full slowdown build on Nurse is a gg for the survivors and a miserably tedious one at that.

In all fairness though, it looks like the survivors in the OP's example are not a lot better and they intended to give a killer a rough time too. So they kinda deserved each other lol

  • @Config said:

I had pain ressonace and jolt. What exactly did I do wrong there?

On other killers, nothing really. But with Nurse who can get downs very quickly back to back Jolt alone can be very oppressive and add it to PR it is a very un-fun combo to deal with.

Though I guess at least you didn't have Starstruck too...

  • As a former Nurse main myself, your build is a great example of why I finally had to admit that Nurse does indeed need a nerf.

Nurse herself could be argued as being barely acceptable but Nurse with multiple slowdowns or exposed perks like Starstruck is just plain broken. 'This is why we cant have nice things' as there are always those who ruin it for others, take it too far and ruin things for others.

Now I don't even want to play Nurse as people hate her and I didn't even use slowdown or run Starstruck on her even once. I can't even blame survivors for hating her either and some builds just make the problem even worse. Sally has been a victim of her own success :(

  • Okay so it appears it wont actually kick you but once you finish your session it is no longer available. Very polite they allow you to finish your session even if it goes hours over the official end of the PTB :)

  • I don't like Hex perks so I rarely ever use them and I don't care much for bothering to slug for a 4k etc. So neither bothers me as killer... I am more concerned when I see 4x medkits or toolboxes

  • @Pulsar said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3257177#Comment_3257177

    No, it really isn't.

The root cause is that having fun in this game is FAR too dependent on other players deciding to allow it.

If the Killer wants you to have a miserable time, there's not much you can do about it.

If the Survivors want you to have an awful time, there's not much you can do about it.

After a certain number of those games (which aren't uncommon) I struggle to fault people for deciding to call it quits.

Yeah I find it hard to disagree with this.

I rarely get DC's even as Nurse as I never tunnel or camp (unless forced to) and I run meme builds a lot of the time so matches are interesting and not miserable sweat-fests. I owe survivors nothing I know, but I still want everyone to have fun if I can help it.

It is harder to do the same as survivor towards killers but I am not one to BM or be annoying to killers but of course I have little control over whether the killer wants to bring an un-fun build and decide to tunnel me out of the game.

This is true but if you're just learning the saw and not worried about all that then who cares? OP simply wants to get better with the saw it doesn't mean that he'll never m1 in a real match at some point, and going saw only alot of times is a lot of fun with survivors, they'll catch on and play around with you once they realize you're a saw only Billy practicing and if they don't you can always turn chat off I mean who cares everyone starts somewhere

You 100% understand my thinking here

  • @bjorksnas said:

    bamboozle

I have been using that on him actually lol

  • Thanks for all the tips, I think I have a bit to try here so will do that.

Think I need to just practice curving more than anything as I am getting stuck where I know decent Billy's I have faced have done perfectly well

  • @The_Krapper said:

The bots are gonna be different from real players anyway but me personally I use to have Billy as one of my mains he still isn't as bad as some people say but if you were good with Billy you used the saw alot and that grunt before the sprint is possibly one of the most annoying things they could've done for anyone playing him as a main it started giving me headaches eventually, but as for tips practice with a friend in the lobby with the bots and practice saw control in medium range loops like a truck or car loop , and once you get it down you'll be able to saw almost around the car and get them with some pretty insane shots it almost looks like you make a c without looping wide and get them on the opposite back corner that most survivors don't realize you can hit with precision, another one is to play meme builds and have a saw only rule in pubs and try to win while never m1 , you can turn the endgame chat off and just go wild , eventually you'll be hitting those cracked shots and winning without really sweating or at least that's how I learned Billy back in the day

Thanks and yeah the bots definitely don't behave like real opponents but they give me something to target at the very least.

You are right though, I should try curving around objects more than anything as I find that really hard and often end up hitting everything, which is obviously not good with Billy since the penalty for bumping into stuff is pretty brutal (and frustrating).

  • @Okonar_ said:

Go to settings and put "controller sensitivity" at 100% (if you still haven't), helps how much you can curve with billy for some reason, even on pc.

I recommend one green engraving + recovery addon, curves without at least one engraving is pointless since the survivors can react to that speed.

Other than that its just muscle memory and getting used to the timing/looking at the bar.

Hmm yeah tried that but it still feels extremely difficult to have any real control over him. I honestly don't know how people play him but I guess I will try more

  • Blight.

I have been trying him a lot in the PTB against bots and I find his power very difficult to use and it makes me nervous to try him in public matches. I don't find his power enjoyable in all honesty but I will want the achievements on Steam so I need to be able to play him well enough to get a merciless etc

  • @EntitySpawn said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3257399#Comment_3257399

Yeah but are players that DC and give up over every little thing something you want to keep around? Not really...

It gives bad publicity to see it's okay to DC and ruin the game for everyone else and many games have a far smaller playerbase and do really well

Iv started making my own lists and blocking profiles I know DC so I can lobby dodge it. I'm here to have fun and I'drather a proper game that's a 4v1 not games with DCs.

I can have more fun in games with nurse and blight when everyone stays than I can a DC especially early on. I just dont think we should really care for those players happy to ruin it for everyone else.

I dont DC or give up (unless to try give hatch to a teammate) so that's what I expect, I dont care if we win or my team isnt the best but when people DC and give up.... urgh dont need people like that in my life.

They can either ban them more harshly or match them together, I dont mind which just keep them away from me and dont make changes based of entitlement is all I'm saying

Hey don't get me wrong, I get it and it is frustrating as the match is pretty much a waste of time at that point (though I still try to salvage some points or just go next if the killer is an annoying one).

But it still will not change the fact that even those who DC a lot still play most of their matches, otherwise they would never play as they'd always be on a ban. BHVR would know this and understand that banning people too long is counter productive.

But if you want to dodge lobbies that is totally on you and totally fair

1 … 36 37 38 39 40 … 49
