  • Its pretty great for Nurse though lol... nice and open with not too many LOS blockers. But yeah, for slow M1 killers... RIP

  • I have a bit of a conspiracy theory take on this one... I suspect that at least some of the time for all intents and purposes it does not exist.

If the queues are pumping then I think we do see the closest thing to real SBMM as the matchmaking has a big pool of players so can be more accurate in matching you up with players of similar skill. However I strongly suspect it prioritises fast queues over accurately matching players outside of the complete baby new players.

In my own matches I notice that the survivors I play against are wildly varied in the same lobby, with one being an absolute god and another very obviously being a baby. I suspect they removed the rank system and its visibility so people wouldn't complain when they find themselves in lobbies with players of much higher/lower rank.

I think this is happening but we just cant see that if it was the old rank system it would be a total rainbow now and overall I am kinda for it. I will take the randomness and fast matchmaking over the old days where I would need a video to watch while I found a match... When I used to SWF a lot in the early days we would get to rank 1 so fast we could not find games and would have to throw/DC to derank and find matches again. Not fun.

Edit, so sorry to answer do I think it is good? Well yes but I don't think we truly have SBMM most of the time anyway and that is totally fine

  • Objectively so.

It hurts solo survivors exclusively and has zero counter play. When a perk alone can win matches because there is no counter for the weakest role in the game, it very obviously cannot stay as it is

Because they're too afraid it'll be taken away from them.😞

It will get changed, it punishes the weakest role in the game exclusively (solo survivor) and has zero counter play. Though sadly I doubt we will see any rework until the new year with the holidays fast approaching for most people...

But I would bet money on the perk being nerfed/reworked

  • Very glad to see it is in the latest patch, it is a better late than never thanks BHVR!

Was sick of those low integrity scummy players exploiting this and now they will have to actually play without exploiting

  • Complaints are completely valid and ultimately it will get changed/nerfed. A perk that continually punishes the weakest role in the game (solo survivor) that has zero counter play cannot be left as it is. Killers are winning games entirely because of this one perk which is absolutely ridiculous.

I refuse to run this perk myself as I know how annoying it makes matches and survivors give up enough as it is already

  • While not my favourite maps I don't really mind them either and I doubt they are on their radar for reworks but then again who knows...

I would rather see patently unfair maps like Meat Plant be looked at first tbh

  • I play a lot of killer even though I am technically a survivor main by hours played... and I don't care.

It makes me laugh when I see people 6 second switch to flashlights as if I care lol. As flashlight users are so often a killers best friend as they will take stupid risks and waste time chasing you around hoping to get free saves instead of actually doing something useful.

As a solo survivor if I enter a lobby that appears to be a SWF with all flashlights I will dodge that lobby as they are almost always absolutely useless and we lose the match with the only gen done being the one I inevitably will do before they are all dead.

  • I had similar with Bubba the other day and yeah I was shocked nobody DC'd too.

I let them reset as I don't do the lame basement or camping Bubba thing personally...

  • I only play solo and always get to Iri 1 within 2 weeks of reset and I get DC's etc and I cant deny I will yeet out of the odd match here and there when it is hopeless or just plain toxic (not condoning).

I don't actively try to get to rank 1 either as who cares at this point right? But if I want the full BP on reset and want to rank up I use the same tactics:

I will not start the first gen I spawn by, I will instead cross to where the killer likely spawned and do that gen as 9 times out of 10 the killer crossed map to where I was. I try to get my gen points in the bag early on so the next part of my mission is saves/heals and bringing something like We'll Make It not only gives you great opportunity for full heals, it really helps your team against most killers.

Finally is chases (though sometimes you get them at times you don't choose of course) so bear in mind that getting a killer to chase you and instantly running towards areas of the map with no gens or middle buildings etc where they will drop chase = chase won. You can do this multiple times in a single match and if you already did a gen and 3/4 (or 2), got an unhook or 2 and 'won' a couple of chases you should be pipping up fairly easily.

I've got no doubt your aim is solid, but the travel time of the spear is the real killer. It's incredibly hard to visualize just how far and how fast a spear travels, since it's such a thin projectile, so you mainly have to go by feeling and making mental marks on the ruler with every landed shot. You have to hesitate to make the mental calculations and adjust for travel time before every shot if you're not super familiar with it, and that's gonna lose you a lot of potential hits.

So you really do just kinda have to go for it. Eventually the calculations come quicker and quicker, and you familiarize yourself with the travel time until you don't have to think about it. It's rough to adjust to, but it's pure serotonin to hit those sharpshots.

Thank you mate, you have been extremely helpful!

It could be just slightly past max range, or a slight miscalculation with the travel time of the spear, weirdness with the running hitbox, or even just latency. But I don't think RNG is much of a factor with 'Slinger's spears.

You just kinda gotta feel the spear. It makes sense after long enough. Just a bit of a pain in the ass to get there with how punishing it is to miss.

Yeah you are no doubt right here and latency is likely a factor, as well as me just not actually being on point for what the game considers should be a hit. I came from shooters like CSGO and PUBG to DBD so I feel my aim is not the worst even if I would never claim to be a pro...

  • It exposes them at a certain range but in my experience it is very difficult to get value from it. Shots at max range seem to miss for no apparent reason so I suspect there is some RNG factor there

  • @Zeidoktor said:

While it won't help you with the Adept, I thought that the Knight's Hubris might be good on him. Depending on the pallet he can make up distance after getting pallet stunned better than most if you can shoot and reel them back in.

Also, while not useful, it's interesting that because any stun triggers it, the Survivor breaking the chain does, too. They're already injured by that, though, so it's more interesting than useful.

I saw Spookyloops did a vid using Hubris on him with Spirit Fury/Enduring of course... good timing for that vid too

  • I went against a Knight doing this and I asked them what kind of person abuses a known exploit like this and their reply was pretty much the same as you got OP. This is why we cant have nice things, there are always those people who have absolutely no integrity and will take advantage of any situation, whereas most of us would not just because it is the wrong thing to do.

As for when it will get fixed? Well I honestly was shocked it wasn't sorted in the last patch as it was pretty well known before that came out. So at this stage, who knows!

  • The trouble is full gen control builds just drag out the most boring part of DBD rather than directly encourage the fun part that is the chases. You can win most matches running these builds as people bore of it and just want to go next, it is more a game of attrition as you gradually chip away at every resource survivors have by artificially dragging out the match.

I do understand why people go for a gen control build too as M1 killers can be pretty miserable on certain maps. But I just don't want to do that myself as I feel it makes matches boring for everyone. Though I would love to see changes to shake up the meta and make chases great again

  • Well anyway, thanks for the vast majority of intelligent and useful responses from everyone else

  • Yeah I think I will disregard this and go with the consensus of the people with a history of being knowledgeable, having integrity and offering good insights into the game...

  • Yeah I will try to exploit the hitboxes more when I do try the adept again. But waiting for rank reset now as I think I am done with the pain for the immediate future lol

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:

Because people heard the word "nerf" and we found out who the real Spirit mains were.

I tend to agree with this.

I still do encounter Spirits who absolutely destroy my random solo team and they sure don't feel like a 'nerfed' killer.

  • @GoodBoyKaru said:

Yeah it's definitely not a you thing. Slinger was massively overnerfed the last time he got changes and hasn't been looked at since, unfortunately.

Thank you and yeah while I fully acknowledge I am far from great with this killer, it feels like he has very little going for him and on certain maps he is essentially useless (not unique to him I guess).

  • By far the hardest adept I had so far was Myers.

He has no early game pressure and no gen control perks so I struggled with gens going too fast and his power being a downside as you get punished for ending chases fast with an insta-down.

I tried Scratched Mirror on Lery's etc but his lack of gen control really hurt and it took a lot of pain to get Myers adept.

  • I have seen several Knight players exploiting this with Make Your Choice and it was known before the last patch but they have not addressed it yet. Hopefully a hotfix will come soon as we have the usual unethical people taking full advantage of this exploit while it exists

  • All I can say is while I don't mind the Autohaven and Macmillan reworks... I still really miss the golden night skies of the old Coldwind realm maps and I hate how they made them day time maps with the rework. I really wish they would do a minor rework to make them night time maps again to bring back the horror ambience/feel to them.

  • Yeah I agree with last two comments... the perks make the adept very hard and I should wait for reset. I really enjoyed doing Onryo adept even if it wasn't easy either but I am finding Slinger to be really painful

If I could use other perks to at least slow gens down a bit I probably would have more fun. But this is the misery of killer adepts I guess

  • @AnneBonny said:

i've mained slinger for months now and people severely overestimate how much impact the nerf had. quickscopes weren't a necessary part of his kit, frankly i think a lot of people just don't know how to adapt.

I am sure if you main him and have put in a lot of time you should be able to get a lot out of him as would be expected. But for someone like me who really just wants the adept it is pretty painful and feels very frustrating to play him. Though as I said, it isn't the least fun and I would enjoy it more if I wasn't stuck with his pretty average perks to get the adept.

I just got the meat plant so I think I am done for today either way...

  • @danielmaster87 said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3287751#Comment_3287751

He was intended to have quickscoping. Before his nerf, I was one of the biggest Deathslinger fans, after initially being a huge doubter. "Why do you all put Deathslinger above Legion in your tier lists?" Stuff like that. Then I saw his power in chase, despite having zero map presence, and reaped the benefits of having good aim and reactions.

I went from playing him in like 80% of my killer matches to straight-up refusing to play him after his nerf. They ruined him, utterly and completely. I can't get those tight shots around corners anymore where my character, my cross hair, and my target were all moving simultaneously. And you know what? Nobody sees that. They think he went from S tier to A tier with the nerf. It's the purely survivor-centered design mentality towards killers that's been plaguing this game for half a decade.

Yeah I can see why you don't play him lol

I just got the Bound and Downed Steam achievement (down 30 speared survivors) but I think I will park him up and wait for rank reset for the adept as I am getting tilted now.

Example of how pathetic he is: My last match I was on Sanctum and at one point there was a small rock that I chased a survivor around and I must have done 4 loops of it before I started to actually gain any distance lmao. Because his ADS is so slow I could not take the shot regardless and of course they dropped the pallet and I got a useless deep wound out of all that.

The survivors were actually pretty wholesome and at the end even they were saying what in the actual ***** was going on lol? They wondered how several of my shots simply didn't hit and honestly it feels like some of them are just RNG with a high probability they will not hit.

Anyway, thanks all but I think my Slinger adept is on hold until reset lol... I will go insane otherwise

His other addons aren't necessarily bad, but they just don't have as strong of an impact as cutting down on that massive reloading timesink. Reload/reload has pretty much been the de-facto best Slinger addons until the Coin got buffed to actually be reasonable.. which makes it kind of terrifying now.

But yeah, hope it helps. I got my Adept before the nerf (though DMS and Gearhead were worse, and it was on Disturbed Ward, so I didn't get off too easy), but I'll see if I can't get an all-Slinger merciless for solidarity.

Yeah I wish I had just tried then tbh... so much harder now.

I think I will give up for now as this is just beyond frustrating but thanks

  • @danielmaster87 said:

Just like Wraith, Freddy, Pinhead, and Twins, he's a killer that should have gotten several qol changes or buffs, not a blasted nerf. No, it's not you. It's the weak killer you're playing who has to slow motion zoom in to shoot, and then slowly reels in the survivors like fishies while they break the chain in like 3 seconds. Zero incentive/reward for good aim, reactions, or skill.

Doesn't help when I play him I seem to have the worst luck with maps lol... Just had so much fun on RPD... :/

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3287728#Comment_3287728

Yeah, I just completely blanked out on the adept part. Whoops.

Keys/coin are definitely the greatest power combo, but that requires going for more ambitious shots that the survivors might be savvy to-- going for super risky shots could lose you the game just as easily as win it. Reload/reload is probably going to be the safer choice.

If you have a shot you're not sure about, zone instead. Make them waste time swerving, not looking at you, overcorrecting. Even a tiny bit of distance lost could make the difference.

I recommend just breaking safer pallets immediately once they're dropped, 110% means you'll take too much time lining up the kill shot. Leave them nothing but those wonderful wonderful windows that're basically free downs. How well this works out depends on the map, so.. kinda just have to hope on that front.

Also, make sure to fully utilize the very boring but very practical utility of your shot as basically a fast, big lunge. If they're going to get to a pallet before you, but you know they have nowhere else to go and you'll get a sight line first, get that shot ready and wait for them to commit. They HAVE to. It'll get them killed way more often than wild moonshots.

No problem at all, I did ask for advice too so it all helps even if not specifically with adept.

I will try those addons as I am ignorant to what his best are and I run whatever lol...

Some good tips there otherwise though, thank you! All makes sense and yeah it maps obviously make a big difference as does RNG

  • @Gwinty said:

Slinger is not that bad. He is just not in a good spot right now.

For me he feels fine and I enjoy a round of Slinger every now and then. However I never play him "to win", I more or less play him for some stupid builds that bring me joy: Trail of Torments or Insidious for gen-camping, Rancor/Nemesis/Leathal for Rancor-Roulette and so on.

A friend of mine who played him before his changes says he feels awful now without his quickscope. As I did not have him back than and can not compare I do not know if that is true.

I am almost embarrassed to admit I have owned Slinger since he was released but only just got around to actually playing him lol

I would like to thank BHVR for adding bots so I could at least learn his mechanics rather than being humiliated as I fumble around figuring him out in a live match!

But either way, I have to play him to win if I want the adept otherwise I really would not care as I am not a sweaty killer player at all. Again, perk suggestions are all good but not much help for his adept and I highly doubt I will play him again once I have his achievements. Not that he isn't at least a bit fun... it is just a tad painful and I prefer other killers

  • I just wish we could at least have a break from certain killers if we have gone against them over and over. Today I had Wraith for every survivor match and honestly by the 4th one in a row it is hard to find the motivation to play that match. Of course people DC for the most ridiculous reasons but for me getting the same killer over and over is a big reason I want out of a match

  • @Grandpa_Crack_Pipe said:

He's definitely not great, and Huntress is for all intents and purposes an upgrade to him.

But you'd be surprised what some clever Slingers can do, what kinds of shots they can land, how they can finesse around some loops, and how quick they can shut down some chases. You can always be just a little more accurate.

Dissolution is fun on him, and you don't even need to personally hit the survivor to proc it. Just shoot over a pallet and break the chain.

Yeah I am sure good Slingers can do a lot but of course I really just want his adept so it limits my perk options and makes it harder.

I think I might have to wait for rank reset for this one as I am still getting 3k's (if I am lucky) but losing gens too fast and I hate to think how much worse it would be without DMS being one of his perks.

  • @Phasmamain said:

Slinger isn’t in a good spot at the moment. His only strengths are his zoning and fast projectile

Make sure to run save the best for last. When spearing the obsession just let the chain break so you don’t lose stacks but still get the injure

Best add-ons are the Iri coin and reload/cooldown add-ons

Thanks, trouble is I cant run STBFL for his adept otherwise I would

  • Yes it is very survivor sided against the killers that already struggle as it is (M1 killers). However funnily enough I played a few Nurse matches on it and it is actually pretty decent for her as there are not that many LOS breakers and it is quite open.

  • I was never a big fan of Hex perks from back in the days of the original Ruin meta where you would load in and instantly lose your Ruin so often it was beyond a joke. Some totem spawns are a lot better than the old days but you still get them pretty much right beside gens or out in the open, so besides very rarely risking Devour for the fun of it, I don't bother personally.

Though I guess the concept is that Hex perks are very strong but high risk due to the fact they can be cleansed

  • Without even being specific I would have to ask if you do not realise that an asymmetrical game is unbalanced by its very nature? Whether it is "insanely" unbalanced or not is a whole argument in itself (I would say it is not) but also a lot of the balance issues come down to RNG on certain maps where you can lose almost entirely based on RNG

  • I have been playing a lot of Onryo myself and much to my surprise I have been really enjoying her. I don't feel I am in a position to give build suggestions but I must say I have had survivors say they had a lot of fun (I don't camp or tunnel) as I made full use of her teleport so they were in constant fear never knowing where I am going to pop up from lol

Getting her adept was not the easiest but I am glad I chose to get it on her as it made me play her and I think she is fun even with her own default perks as a build :)

  • Honestly as killer it just isn't worth my time to waste potentially 4 minutes to wait for them to bleed out, I would rather just go next asap and if that means they were Chad enough to run a mostly useless perk like Power Struggle and get away... so be it.

That being said, BM me with bags etc during the match and I will be extremely petty and happily slug everyone and bleed them out for the entire 4 minutes while I make a cup of tea.

  • I actually saw that I my first thought was '#########, of all the weeks to put it in'... unbelievable huh

  • I just unhook them so I can get some points out of it, even heal them if they decide to go afk and don't hold shift to prevent me doing so.

It sucks I know but I am not going to hold people in a match they don't want to play, I have quit on hook myself so I get it (Legion match, team all grouping up and healing every time etc).

As killer if they want out I just hook them rather than forcing them to stay in the match by ignoring them, though I do understand why some people do

  • I get a 4k every time I play Nurse (unsurprisingly) and with most killers... but then I have miserable matches on say RPD or Garden of Joy etc where I struggle to get a single hook if I play a 'fun' killer like Bubba etc.

As for Trapper, well it is almost entirely down to RNG and luck with Trapper. Get a bad map with wide gen spread and nowhere to create a zone? Yeah good luck...

  • I wish they would address the MYC exploit... still seeing scummy people taking full advantage of this broken crap and I am pretty shocked they did nothing to sort this in the last patch

  • I get it but then Pips really mean nothing these days and even with all the DC's etc I still get Iri 1 within the first two weeks after reset... it isn't too hard to black pip even with DC's

  • I don't get it either for the most part. Sure you could argue it is a dirty tactic to sell you crap but if you are cheap like me and refuse to buy cosmetics (mostly, I have bought them before) then it really does not matter.

The transaction is entirely voluntary and if you don't like it then vote with your wallet

  • Oh okay well I didn't even know that was a thing so definitely cant help

  • @SweetTerror said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3284360#Comment_3284360

I noticed that as well. When I played ghostface the bots knew where I was almost every time, and would break me out of the cloak. It was frustrating, yet impressive at the same time. It made me play smarter like I would have to against real players.

The bots also dodge hatchets against Huntress and like with GF they have ESP and can dodge without LOS. It is pretty impressive but then in other ways they can be very stupid as you would expect from bots.

One thing the bots showed me is that so long as you consistently pressure gens as survivor it makes things really hard for most M1 killers with average mobility.

  • Yeah it is just gone midnight Saturday where I am, so the evening no doubt had lots of SWF's which means plenty of survivors. Plus playing against SWF's is often not the most fun experience if you are playing a lower tier killer... So no wonder they need to give incentives for people to suffer playing killer haha

  • Yeah it is pretty frustrating playing M1 killers ngl and the reason is entirely that you lose all pressure on 3/4 of the team during a chase and they just hammer out gens and you feel pretty helpless.

It is why I became a Nurse main in the first place but I really don't want to just play Nurse, however it can feel hopeless with weaker killers when you go against multiple toolboxes/medkits and a bad map

1 … 34 35 36 37 38 … 49
