The twins change is obviously evidence that they don't rely solely on statistics to make changes, but knowing the forums you're all going to pretend the only thing they look at is numbers and base all their changes on that.
So, what did they base the entire Billy nerf on? The opinions of bad survivors?
Either way, the Twins nerf is another proof that they have no idea how to nerf killers. Either they don't address core issues like with Spirit or they make them clunky and unfun to play like with Billy, Twins and Nurse to a lesser extent.

It happened that Billy is dead and Blight is pretty much a superior crack Billy

I don't think so.
I was on the forum when they announced that Billy was going to get changed and nearly no one was complaining about him. Maybe a few about his addons but nothing that Billy basekit needed nerfs
People complained that Billy was too much played and overrated how good he actually was without insta-saw combos.
Now people miss him because they realized that Billy being dead means a lot more Spirits and other "boring killers" around.
-
Some people did the same with Billy.
All the Billy OP posts have disappeared since no one plays him anymore and now those people went to complain about the other popular killers.
It's always like that.
-
I don't know about "toxicity" but Bubba is the ultimate killer for trolls.
Brain dead easy to use power that's also one of the best at contesting hooks.
I can't stand the devs for pretty much replacing Billy with him.

How much variety after the Billy nerf? 12 killers being used relatively often right now with 23 killers available, aka, roughly 50% of the roster. Before the Billy Nerf? 6 killers being used relatively often with 20 killers available, aka, roughly 25% of the roster. So yes, the variety was upped from 25% to 50%.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2196934#Comment_2196934
2016, the variety was pretty much 100% considering Billy didnt really have pop or ruin available. Trapper and Wraith were pretty equal in strength, with the only difference that Billy didnt have pink addons, and thus was capable of instakilling every single match, where Wraith and Trapper only could do that every 3rd match or so. But Trapper and Wraith still had favor over Billy due to Agitation and Bloodhound. Once people had both those perks on Billy, they only played Billy, at least, for the first 2 months of release.
Then Nurse came out, and the variety dropped to just Billy and Nurse. 50% of the killers used.
Then Myers came out, and at first 3 out of 5 killers were used, untill people realized how powerful Dying Light was and Billy slowly became the main protagonist, 40% of killers used, 60% of the matches being Billy with Ebony/Ivory Mori and Dying Light, the rest being Nurse.
Then Hag came out, who was terrible at release, so Billy and Nurse were still the only ones used, 33% variety.
Then Doc came out next, who, also wasnt that great, annoying, sure, but easily exploited. 2 killers used out of 7 total(28.5% mainly Billy, Nurse second).
Then Huntress came out, finally, the first killer since Billy to truly be able to use the disgusting mechanic that was old Tinkerer. 3 Killers used out of 8 on a regular basis, finally some more variety(37.5%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Bubba, 3 out of 9(33.333%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Freddy, 3 out of 10(30%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Pig, 3 out of 11(27.3%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Clown, 3 out of 12(25%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Spirit, but Tinkerer has been nerfed, and so people stopped playing huntress, 3 out of 13(23%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Legion, 4 out of 14(28.6%, for the first time, people didnt play Nurse as much. mainly Billy, Legion second)
Plague, Legion has been nerfed. 3 out of 15(20%, biggest variety drop since Myers came out, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Ghostface, 3 out of 16(18.75%%, mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Demogorgon, Freddy has been reworked, 4 out of 17(23.5% mainly Billy, Nurse second)
Oni, Nurse has been reworked and is no longer played outside tournament settings even though she isnt that weak, 4 out of 18(oni filled in Nurse's slot for some time)(22.2%% mainly Billy, Spirit second).
Deathslinger, Doctor was reworked and joined the variety roster, Oni has recieved a slight bug fix that made him slightly harder to play, so ofcourse people dumped him but Caleb took his place, 5 out of 19(26.3%, mainly Billy, Spirit second)
PH, Hag recieved a shadow buff and can now lunge out of traps 7 out of 20(35%, mainly Billy, Spirit second).
Blight, Billy and Bubba got reworked, but Undying has entered the chat thus more killers are being played. 12 out of 21(57% under disgusting mechanics, Spirit first, but not mainly, Freddy second), a lot of survivor sided maps have been reworked too.
Twins, Blight has recieved a minor amount of love, keeping him in the roster after the Undying nerf, but just barely, more players started picking up Oni, Demo, Pig, Plague and Clown. Especially since they were able to freely test out these killers instead of Billy thanks to Undying(its the only good that Undying has done, give people time to learn more killers once their favorite one was gutted), more maps have been reworked, 14 out of 22(63.6%, Freddy first, Spirit second(yeah, idk what changed, maybe more people realized Spirit is boring to play as AND against)).
Trickster, Clown and Wraith have been reworked, Trapper and Blight have had some QoL, even more maps have been reworked, 15 out of 23(60.8%, highest variety since release. Freddy first, Spirit second)
Trickster-now, Freddy has been nerfed, but plays pretty much the same, even so, people have left him out of the variety roster, Huntress and Demo recieved an addon and/or basekit rework, Hag and PH, for some reason, have disappeared off the variety roster, for now at least. Twins was made less easy to play, but sadly also a lot less fun to play as. 12 out of 23(52.2% variety, Bubba, Huntress and Demo being on roughly equal footing here).
So yes, the Billy nerf forced players to play more killers. The variety has gone up. More issues with killers have been found and since then addressed.
I mean, do you really think Wraith would have recieved a buff if Billy remained the same? Barely anyone played Wraith back then. More variety=better balancing. More issues are found with weaker killers and since there is more data available, there is an easier conclusion to be drawn of what needs to change. I dont mind waiting for Billy to be addressed untill other things have been addressed first. 2020-2022 is probably going to be the era with little to no Billy, after 4 years of being essentially Dead by Billy. Yes, it's a shame he has been gutted this hard, but the overall benefit his nerf has given to other killers? Totally worth it.
In what world does a developer need to nerf a certain character to understand that another one is weak...
Huntress is super popular, you see her all the time, but they didn't gut her with the recent changes compared to Billy. They just removed some of the busted stuff and even create some new interesting add-ons like the flight speed ones.

You think that’s bad you should have seen 2016-2018 every match was Billy and Nurse they were the only 2 killers being used now we have some variety
Again, how many killers existed back then?
People played Billy because he was tons of fun and him and Nurse are free with the base game.
If only they had nerfed Billy the right amount and didn't bug his animations, he would still be played a ton simply because most other killers are not as fun.

"his bumping collision time is 3 times longer" False, he no longer has access to addons that allow him to reduce his bumping collision significantly. Pallet breaking time is equal, it just no longer stacks with perks that break pallets.
And again, Billy has been a consistently strong killer since release. Ever since his nerf, a lot of killers that were mainly unplayed are being touched and explored right now. Before the Billy nerf, like 80% of my games were against Billy. Nowadays, not a single killer is even close to dominating 60% of the games. Billy's need for attention doesnt really have that much of a priority, he still performs well, he is just a lot more annoying to play.
How much variety there is now? There are 23 killers in the game and red ranks is pretty much only Nurse, Spirit, Deathslinger, Pyramid Head, Huntress, 180 flick Blight and Bubba.
You also have to take into account that there were less killers in general to choose from in the past, now there are more killers than ever and most of them are still not much played.
No one plays Billy and everybody plays Bubba now. Wow! so much more variety indeed!

so are talking about a billy with primer bulb/ spark plug?
They were fine if not stacked. Admittedly a bit too good to be a brown and yellow, so they should have just upped them in rarity.
Literally every other killer in the game has a bunch of add-ons that improve something without some ridiculous condition/downside, so there's no justification for Billy to be any different.

that doesnt make him balanced at all
people think billy is balanced because you can loop him for 2 minutes
yes, he has a VERY fun chase to go against, objectively THE most fun, but he's not balanced because his chasing power is dogshit. that means he's unbalanced, and not in a way that benefits him.
if this game were a 1v1, he would easily be the most well designed killer to touch this game. but it's not.
I was joking on the fact that people still put Billy among the most fun killers to play against but now he's fun only for survivors, not to play as.
-
Old Billy without Tuning Guide/insta saw.
Now is the most "balanced" killer in the sense that anyone who's good at survivor can loop him for days

I don't think that was the issue he has about FOV. He's more concerned about the advantages of a higher FOV which cannot be measured in any way, shape or form, and the advantage it would provide would be so insignificant it's not even worth mentioning. All that's stopping them is if they think it's a good investment of their time to approve and implement something like this into the game. And FOV sliders don't bring in new players.
Adding a FOV slider or changing the default one would take zero effort.
The function is already in the game, they just locked it behind perks as they love to do with a lot of things in this game.
Perks as band aid fixes.

They just added the overheat which barely affects normal Billy Gameplay. Sure, it's inconvinient and in opinion unnessecary but since every Killer has some form of cooldown/token system/power duration etc. old Billy didn't have any of these, he was able to spam his Power how much he wanted while Huntress has 5 shots and then has to reload.
That's the difference and also why Huntresse's basekit wasn't changed.
What made Billy a bit too good was the fact that he had insane add-ons like Tuning Guide that you could stack together with others. Now all of his good add-ons have been removed instead of being balanced more.
A resource management mechanic like the overheat simply works poorly with the nature of his power where now you're essentially being punished just for trying to use it in the first place.
Billy's chainsaw doesn't break rules compared to Huntress' hatchets and there were already penalties for misusing the chainsaw.

I'll just point out that higher FOV gives me motion sickness. Some people get sick at higher FOV, some at lower. Higher FOV is clearly a gameplay advantage, so this remains a difficult issue.
You can definitely feel sick with pretty high values but at the same time, it's undeniable that 87 degrees is pretty low FOV.
I would argue that higher FOV is more of an accessibility thing than a big gameplay advantage, and if we're talking about advantages, i can bring up the potential of voice comms for survivors. The low FOV makes many killer's powers harder to use than they actually are.
I get that DBD is a unique game, but i don't think that being forced to run a perk like Shadowborn just so people can play killer without feeling sick is very good and fun design.

People absolutely do get motion sickness while playing CSGO. Default killer FOV is 87 degrees. FOV in CSGO at 4:3 is 90 degrees.
There's also a difference between bumping up the default FOV a few degrees and adding an FOV slider (which implies a higher maximum FOV).
There's also more to FOV than "does it give people motion sickness". It's directly tied to balance.
I've played every CS enough messing with different resolutions and never really had major issues, but yeah, they don't give you a huge FOV so i can see why some people still can't stand that.
They still let you do some things in the console though like modifying your viewmodel.
Consider that i'm a Quake guy and i'm quite sensitive to these things.
That being said, the default FOV of killers is just way too low. I don't necessarily want Shadowborn tier 3 base, but at the bare minimum it should be increased from 87 to like 95
-
I can't believe people defend the horrible default FOV of killers in this game.
Even an ACTUAL competitive game like Counter Strike that never let you change the FOV, still has it big enough so that people don't get motion sickness.
Every argument against higher FOV is just dumb. It feels like some people have only played DBD in their life and nothing else.

A reminder, because I just had to delete a lot of comments from this thread - there's not one person responsible for changes in DbD, it's a team effort and whilst individuals do have input, the team as a whole makes the decisions. So whilst you are free to discuss the topic - playing the whole "blame game" isn't going to be welcome here.
The community had literally zero input on these changes though. Listening to the players should also be a team effort.
Nobody asked for all of this.
As you can see, everyone (and by that i mean 90+% of people) is still hating the Billy nerf almost a year after and even some big content creators have brought the topic back again.

Either way his add ons needed a nerf. Pretty much halting his charge time was simply unfair.
I do agree though overheat was unnecessary but it was fine until they change the dissipation rate after the ptb
You fail to take Engravings into account. Now not only you're punished for having a longer charge but you also have to babysit more a stupid red bar; all of that just for using an add-on that's supposed to help you.
That's complete garbage game design.
The problem with crack Billy was using Tuning Guide/Thompson's mix which had extra benefits on top of reduced charge time.
Spark Plug/Primer Bulb + Engravings was perfectly fine. Indoor maps already hurt Billy, and you should encourage a skillful playstyle like curving, not punish it.
-
@Chilli_man2400 said:
he Said can someone tell him why they nerfed Billy. I know the reason why, this is not a joke it has nothing to do with devs being bad at the game or stats it was that Billy had everything for free with no downside. Example
Oni needs to collect his power to have map pressure and insta down- Billy has it from the beginning and is faster.
Myers needs to stalk people to get his instadown- Billy has it from the beginning along with getting across the map with mobility which Myers doesn’t have.
Basically the point I’m trying to make is that Billy had all of this from the beginning he didn’t need to build up his power and he had no cooldowns he could just spam his power forever so he was nerfed so other killers can be played so people won’t say why play him when I can play Billy.
Are you kidding? Oni has to collect his power because he's WAY better than Billy in his Blood Fury.
He doesn't bump into walls, he can dash and get you with his flick, he has no cooldown after his dash and he can speed it up with Topknot, has built in insta-saw since you barely have to hold the kanabo to insta down and he can get multiple survivors at once.
Following your logic, i could make the same argument for Bubba. He outclasses Myers and Ghostface by having such an easy to use and powerful insta down always available.

Proof? Because I can just say that I have Almost the triple of your triple on Clown and you will have to believe me without proof.
Anyways to the Billy Topic, you can easily tell who really mained Billy, which apparently a few from this thread alone, sad to see this but if any of you think that "you rarely overheat and I don't use addons at all!1!" I guess you weren't a good Billy to begin with so you just say what is in your mind, I have never seen a good Billy player and this is someone who has played against OhTofu's and BattleGuy's Billies who were the known Billys from back in the day.
Billy got butchered, the devs apparently don't know how much Billy actually got nerfed.
Skill Billy just doesn't exist anymore or are more rare than finding a shiny 6IV pokemon.
Those who still play Billy had to stop doing fun stuff like double engravings because nerf, no one in the community wanted a Billy nerf people just wanted crackbilly and instasaw Billy removed or nerfed not the whole basekit.
I noticed people on this forum stop arguing with you (always the same people you see on pretty much every post) the moment you make their poor arguments fall apart.
The people who say overheat isn't a issue either don't play him or are very average Billys going against bad survivors who don't use Engravings and almost only use the chainsaw for mobility aka M1lly.
Somehow according to these people, nobody plays Billy anymore "only because there's no insta saw now" as if everyone was just bad and they're the cool guys.

I know many people complain about his PoV and animations. I am still confused what they mean, I don't really recognize anything, or do you mean the limping?
Notice the position of the hammer and the movement of the camera and his arms after a chainsaw sprint.
For some reason, they bugged all of this to where the hammer stays very low and the camera shakes all over the place after a chainsaw sprint.

Imagine if Spirit roared when she started phasing...
There's also Deathslinger with instant ADS and shoot, but all of that is more balanced and fair in the eyes of the devs because it's not an insta down ability :)
-
@[Deleted User] said:
What an exaggeration. He still has the 2nd best mobility in the game and a solid antiloop. I wouldn't put him anywhere other than low A. Just because you can't backrev with instasaw anymore it doesn't mean he's on the same tier of Legion.
Overheat barely affects someone if you're not running double engravings. What drives people away from Hillbilly are his new annoying POV and animations (Shadowborn is basically mandatory on him now), but his basekit is almost the same.
You guys should seriously stop going against trash survivors who don't really know how to play against him and then come here saying Billy is A tier.
His antiloop is not great lmao. Not having any charge add-ons to compensate for the penality of the Engravings can be a big deal against good loopers and the roar makes it easier for survivors to react to you coming around corners. It just takes people who actually know how to play against him to show that.
Bubba, Oni and Blight are better killers with much better add-ons.
Billy has been outclassed by his similars and other killers that are way easier to play while still being very good.
People just don't understand how much not having any charge time and cooldown add-ons at all hurt him.
He went from having too much to absolutely nothing.
-

Billy has a pretty healthy 4.54% pick rate, which is higher than the general killer average of 3.94%. You might want to have checked your premises before trying to explain them.
Oh, wanna play with numbers? That's the last statistics the devs showed at red ranks. He has among the lowest pick rates. He's obviously gonna be higher in lower ranks since new players are gonna try first what comes free with the base game.
Try again bud.

True that does always happen but charge time was unanimous that all other add ons would go unused. It’s not like the green charge time add on is bad anyway just requires you to actually think about using it
The biggest problem of not having any of the old charge time add-ons is that you don't have anything to compensate for the penality of the Engravings, which can be a big deal against good survivors in certain situations.
Mother's Helpers is a trash designed add-on, period.
Sorry but the fact that you say is good because "you have to think about using it" is a pretty big indication of who you're going against.
-

Mothers helpers actually are pretty decent. Just run enduring and don’t respect pallets.
But yes spark plug and primer bulb were broken.what killer has a charge time add on that isn’t top tier?
"Just run Enduring"
What if don't want to? It's a green man, i shouldn't need a perk to make an add-on work. It doesn't even activate if you break a pallet with the chainsaw.
On top of that, they also nerfed Billy's sinergy with Enduring since you can't still maintain your charge after being stunned anymore.
-
@Phasmamain said:
I don’t know mate. I do just fine with him in most my matches.
Fact is his add ons needed a nerf. Overheat is debatable
There's a difference between nerfing and completely removing them.
How broken were old Spark Plug and Primer Bulb that they needed to be raised in rarity and reworked in non sense like Mother's Helpers and Tuned Carburetor.
-
@MadLordJack said:
I don't really care. The only nerf that went too far was Billy, and it seems the Devs are pretty damn aware of it. And I especially don't care because a lot of killers actually do need things nerfed.
They are aware most people hate the nerf but they're too arrogant to admit it was a mistake.
Even Otz is repeating many times that Billy is in a pretty sad state. The only thing they admitted is that his animations are buggy and McLean said they will get fixed but of course there's no word on WHEN it will happen.
-
Billy shifted from the most fun killer to play to king of unfun. Overheat, roar, buggy animations, inconsistent chainsaw hitbox, garbage add-ons; this guy has everything.
-
McLean better fix Billy's animations and his inconsistent and slidy chainsaw hitbox instead of hyping about trash patches.
-
I don't expect anything more in the near future other than his buggy animations getting fixed.
They'll probably change him again when they see his costumes don't sell because nobody plays him anymore and they have sold enough DLCs.
Billy nerf was nothing more than a greedy and biased move.
-
It shouldn't have a downside, it's a PURPLE add-on for god's sake. It's basically the old Primer Bulb with 2% faster charge time, so i don't know what's so crazy about it.
Same argument goes for Mother's Helpers.
The problem with Billy's add-ons now is that pretty much everything comes with a stupid downside.
-
@kaeru said:

Yes, they got carried away and nerfed their power. And their addons become more useless than before.
Huntress only need an addon pass. As Huntress myself I play without addons, so I will be mad and probably quit the game if they touch her power. It's probably last thing that keeps me playing.
If they don't touch her base kit, they're surely gonna destroy her add-ons with new rank 20 tier garbage.
The thing in common with the Nurse and Billy nerf is that now you have to use the cooldown reduction add-ons just to make them similar to their old base kit versions.
Huntress is a free killer killer and extremely popular, and BHVR doesn't really like things that don't make them more money.
-
Oni is better mainly because he's helped by add-ons while Billy really doesn't anymore. Without things like Topknot it could be more debatable.
Both are noob stompers since a lot of survivors don't really know how to play against them.
-
@FrostySeal said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2087561#Comment_2087561
Why do you think that? He's still a very powerful killer with his map mobility and curves, the only thing that the nerf really took away from him was his strong addons and screwed up his POV. I play him frequently too.
Because new Billy does very little that new Bubba and other killers like Oni don't do better.
Not having any good charge time add-ons to pair with the Engravings hurts him especially if you get ######### indoor maps and the roar makes it easier for survivors to juke you during curves. You'll still get many downs with curves because for the most part a lot of survivors don't really know how to play against Billy which is the main reason why he was such a noob stomper and led the devs to believe he was super OP.
-
Just want to say that all the people who say Billy is A tier don't actually play him.

Ohhh, you have to admit there are a lot more survivors with god complex than killers though.
People can think and say what they want, it doesn't change the reality that there are way too many survivors and not enough killers for whatever reasons, which is something that even the devs admitted.
If all the "killer is so easy" people would actually queue up to play killer, survivor queues at night wouldn't be as bad.

SWF as it is shrinks the killer playerbase though, it's a double edged sword.
It's one of the main reasons why nobody wants to play killer at night (at least in EU)
Everybody wants to play in SWF at the cost of waiting forever in lobby simply because it's more fun, easier and less stressful to play.

No offence, but NA survivors look VERY chill to me when i watch what they go against, so i'm not surprised that they find it too easy. Not to say that everyone in EU is a god of course, but the caliber is definitely much higher.

That's why you shouldn't listen to survivors whining about "boring killers"; a lot of them just want to bully and get easy wins.
They get like a Billy that's trying to learn and can't contain themselves from smashing the crouch button.

Certainly he wasn't the top, but how is this player terrible by any means?
Maybe it's also because new Billy just struggles downing people who are actually good? That couldn't possibly be it.
I would like to see your Billy going against the same team.
And let's say this guy is terrible, where are all these amazing, non boosted Billy players? I've seen maybe 5 Billys max since the nerf and the last one had 70 hours...
Don't tell me it's because of the animations; yes, they are annoying and need to be fixed, but most people don't even know about this and they have no impact on the killer's strenght.

Billy is the perfect example of a high effort killer for a weak reward.
Why bother when Freddy or Spirit exists? You can learn them in 10 minutes, Billy takes hours.
This seems to be too hard to understand for most people here it seems. They have to say the player is just bad and pintpoint any mistakes.

If your having trouble landing firsts, run chase perks like bamboozle and brutal strength on him. I think his biggest problem is that it takes longer to get into his power than it does to spend his power. The reason is because his power only lasts 45 seconds, -7 second per down reducing its duration to 38 base and when you are in demon form, survivors do not drop blood orbs which increases his down-time.
If his power was 60 seconds and did not penalize him for downing survivors while survivors still drop blood orbs when he is in demon form, he would be contender for one strongest DBD killers. Survivors would complain that he is S-tier. The fact you need to use Lion Fang to make remotely playable slugger showcases his poor variable balance. I think its strongest add-on as well. I guess PTB Oni was too scary for survivor mains.
The fundamental issue with Oni's design IMHO is that the only thing that makes him pretty good is getting his power and being able to slug everyone; this basically makes him an extremely linear killer.
Everyone runs the same exact builds on Oni because there are very few perks that make sense to run with his power. Without Infectious Fright and slugging, he just becomes kind of a ######### one shot killer.
While he's still one of the coolest killers in the game, i just find him to be a more boring version of Billy.

Really stupid, unjustified balance reasons that literally causes more headaches than it prevents.
The logic of "FoV slider bad because it lets you find people easier" can be applied to literally ANY PvP game. Yet many of those aforementioned PvP games not only have FoV sliders, some of them also have a default FoV that's higher than that of Killers.
It really doesn't provide some massive advantage. If it did, Shadowborn would be considered a much higher-tier Perk in terms of viability. But it's not. In terms of viability and strength, Shadowborn is really, really bad. It's a QoL Perk. As someone who frequently runs Shadowborn because Killer fatigues and 110 Killers cause me actual disorientation when I play without it, it really doesn't help that much in terms of finding Survivors.
An FoV slider would have almost zero effect on balance.
On top of that, it's an argument that makes even less sense since BHVR makes a ton of shiny and bulky costumes that make survivors easier to spot. The awful default FOV just makes a lot of killers artificially more difficult to play than they actually are.

Because people need to get good. I may main Spirit because I really love her character, but I also play a ton of Blight who is waaay harder, because I would like to have a challenge to overcome. Spirit is just too easy for how strong she is and that’s an issue and it’s kind of drawn me away from Spirit recently.
I’m not asking for Spirit or Nurse to get nerfed to the ground, I just want them rebalanced and more in line with other killers in terms of strength and counterplay. Mastering either one is a 4k almost every game.
Well, you can thank BHVR for making Billy unfun and unrewarding to play instead of touching Spirit. Unless there is a higher reward for playing the harder killers, most people are just mainly gonna keep playing the easier ones like her.
