  • Yeah but let's not pretend that Demo was ever a popular killer; pretty much no one plays him even after his recent buffs, so it's not gonna change much in terms of killer variety.

No more Hawkins is great news though!

They did say though "hes in mostly a spot they are comfortable with" and the better player normally comes out on top "and they are pretty happy with how he performs so the changes are slight" the overheat and addon murders isnt slight at all.

They said those things because some of the devs didn't like Billy and really wanted to nerf him, but couldn't come up with better wording without sounding blatantly biased.

-> easiest killers in the game to loop

Except for the part where he flicks around corners and can instadown while you're locked in the vault animation

-> Oni is better than Billy with Infectious

Yes and Oni has a MASSIVE cooldown period when he uses his power

Curves are rather predictable and have plenty of counterplay especially without the movement speed of the Engravings which he didn't have with Insta saw combos; also not every loop is very practical to curve.

Oni starts with no power compared to Billy but he makes up for it by having much better add-ons and being way more lethal when he does get his power.

  • @Snowbawlzzz said:

    Hillbilly absolutely needed a meter

Infectious Fright Billy was a braindead easy way to get wins

More like survivors were braindead for going down instantly against one of the easiest killers in the game to loop.

You know that Oni is high tier and better than Billy specifically for his snowball potential with Infectious, right?

  • For some it depends on the ranks, but for red ranks in EU, pretty much nobody plays the majority of killers.

Bottom 3 least played would definitely be Hag, Plague and Billy (which BHVR will probably never admit of having ruined him).

He never worked on Billy’s overheat. Yes even though he kept saying Billy was op with curves. He talks ######### all the time he says stuff all the time on stream but he doesn’t actually mean it. He did some good things he never nerfed huntress he made Doctor a better killer and he fixed the struggling mechanic. But everyone ignores that and only knows him as the guy who nerfs everything

By the way, why do you guys always magically show up to defend him when he could simply join the conversation and explain things himself?

Maybe it would be nice if the developers were a little more transparent and talkative to the community in the official forums of the game, which is what they should be made for.

It's been a year since Billy went from one of the most popular killers in the game to critically endangered status and other things that people have been complaining for a long time like his buggy animations, still haven't been fixed yet; people just want explanations.

Almo complained the most? Out of all 200+ Devs you can factually say that he complained the most, you must know some people to have talked to all of them.

This is why Hex: Huntress Lullaby was changed, not because Almo has a hard time hitting skill checks. But no one wants to believe this is the reason because it dosent fit the narrative of making fun or ######### talking the Devs.

That is just his own perspective though. From the survivor perspective, that pallet was already down 50% or more.

    Now, what seems more fair?

    1. For a survivor who already dropped the pallet 50% down to be hit because the killer perspective didnt line up? This used to be the case 100% before the patch, sometimes the pallet was dropped 100%, only for the killer to hit me and be stunned 3 seconds after the pallet was dropped
    2. Prioritize the action that reaches the server first? Aka, if the pallet being dropped reaches the server before the hit, the hit gets rolled back.

Obviously option 2 is the fairer one. Option 2 only "robs" the killer sometimes, while other times it can "rob" the survivor, where option 1 always "robbed" the survivor.

It's not fair for the killer either to hit a survivor legitimately (from their screen), hear the screaming, get stunned and then see them magically run away. It just looks extremely janky.

The natural consequences of these changes is that you'll see even more Nurse, Spirit, Deathslinger etc., all the killers who don't care about pallets much.

  • @Bwsted said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2391326#Comment_2391326

It doesn't matter how it looks on your screen. The stun connected earlier on the survivor's screen both in real-life terms and when it was communicated to the server. Hence, the hit was rejected.

It's exactly like most fps. The player who communicates the hit to the server first gets credited. Stuns are the survivor equivalent of shooting.

Whereas, with the previous system, it didn't matter if the survivor played correctly (i.e. it didn't matter if they 'shot first'), because vpn'ers/laggin killers could land a hit way after the pallet had been dropped on a survivor who had normal ping.

We don't know about his ping, but from his side it just looks incredibly janky and unfair. People are naturally gonna care more about what happens on their screen.

Nice to see someone who agrees :)

I might be very old fashioned, but there is a reason why many changes get on my nerves.

Kate now looks awful, Quentin's personality is gone. And this list goes on.

    Everything is bad.

I don't dislike all of the new models, but just like the map reworks, for me it's a case of the technology being better but the art is worse.

  • @GeneralV said:

I think all of them look bad.

They stripped the personality away out of some of them.

RIP Dwight's scared puppy eyes and Ace's hilarious smirk. BHVR as usual changing stuff that didn't need a change in the first place so you get these weird results.

  • The only add-ons that are not garbage are Lopro Chains, the steering ones, Doom Engravings but it's extremely annoying if you don't pair with the brown or yellow overheat add on (yellow is better), Heavy Clutch i guess, Mother's Helpers is okay if you use Enduring.

Billy these days is sadly in the top 1 spot for having the worst add-ons in the roster.

  • What's worse is that the devs have known about his bugs for a long time now. They just couldn't care less and Billy is at the very bottom of their priorities.

  • @Zarathos said:

All they had to do was implement a leatherface version of billy threatening the saw. With the consequence of holding it too long being that he will enter overheat.

The fact he generates heat whilst circling the map is a big no. But again its billy who cares right. Behaviour messed up taking an all time classic killer and deliberatly vandalising there killer even though 99% of survivor and killer players loved playing against him. Shame on behaviour.

I guess that they didn't like a free killer being such a noob stomper; you can still see people overrate him to this day and even Almo has always whined about old Billy being too strong.

With that said, i will never understand why they went as far as gutting his add-ons on top of forcing a cooldown mechanic into a killer that just wasn't originally designed to have one in mind.

The Billy nerf overall is a mistery.

Exactly, overheat has the potential to be a good mechanic.

Thinking about it, the sad reason is probably that they simply didn't want to bother reworking those stupid overheat add-ons to do something else, and just like Nurse with the blink recharge ones, they had to give you a reason to use them.

  • Yeah, the overheat wasn't really a problem before they decided to nerf it for whatever reason.

I don’t even think it should be removed entirely, it should just prevent you from camping someone with the chainsaw 99ed and that's it.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/268019/whats-the-reasoning-behind-blight-players-unnecessary-unoriginality-with-their-builds

Meta Killers like Blight attract sweaty players who just want to win and 4K every time. So they always all use the same meta perks and add-ons over and over to consistently get as many wins as possible.

Throughout DBD's history there's always a group of people playing the sweatiest meta builds, the killer they use changes as balance changes but they're basically the same people each time. Once upon a time they were all doing Billy, then they shifted to Legion, then to Nurse, then to Spirit, then to Freddy, then to Oni, then to Blight, then to Wraith, etc. (I don't have the chronology perfect but these killer metas did happen)

Depends on who just got the latest big buff.

When did Oni ever attract all these "sweaty" players exactly? I've never seen him being played a lot.

Why can't BHVR release more killer that can deal with the 1vs4?

I hate the trend of them adding killers that are oppressive in the 1vs1 but struggle in the 1vs4

Even if they would do that, you still have to convince BHVR not to make garbage maps where a bunch of killers don't function.

Like bro they just keep bullying poor Billy with maps where he's useless.

I don’t think this has to do with skins but I agree with the bias they have

Even if they fixed her bugs, most people will keep playing Spirit anyway because she's much easier and not really map dependant.

They don't do that because they're insanely slow at changing anything and there's even less incentive since Nurse is a free killer.

It's genuinely frustrating that this isn't even acknowledged.

What's irritating actually is that the devs KNOW about all of this because McLean went on saying that they were gonna fix this stuff in an official stream back in february, but it's classic of them to promise a bunch of stuff only to never deliver and forget talking about it.

    This is the clip

    https://youtu.be/civV99mXFXo?t=3317

  • Why don't the devs fix Billy’s animations?

Because they don't care and are biased (hi Huntress) . People playing Nurse and Billy doesn't make them money outside of the skin shop so fixing their bugs is at the bottom of the priority list.

I dont know why players even bring up strong Pallets as an argument to keep Bloodlust. If you dont kick a strong Pallet and bloodlust it, you deserve to lose the game.

Strong Pallets most likely dont have an impact on Bloodlust anyway, they need to be kicked ASAP.

Unsafe Pallets are those which get affected by Bloodlust and those are in general fair tiles (both players can outplay each other), but become unfair once Bloodlust 1 is reached.

But the Bloodlust-Weekend showed that many Killers are just really, really bad at this game and get run around unsafe Pallets...

You don't seem to understand that not every killer in the game gets benefit from bloodlust on the same level. Spirit/Deathslinger/Nurse for example don't care about bloodlust, and if you were to get rid of it entirely without changing the maps, all you're gonna do is widen the gap even more between the killers who have strong anti loop/catch up powers and the ones who don't.

  • Because BHVR tries to make ambitious killer powers but it turns out that they lack the time to properly develop them and/or they don't really know how to do it. Just think that Blight has been released with dwarf POV and keeped that for a lot of months. His design is one of the best in the roster but he's just a complete mess on a technical level.

  • It's so ridiculous that they still didn't fix this stuff. Poor Billy being left to rot.

  • @Unifall said:

So you have to go in an mess witht he config files? So you don't think thats a problem? If people are getting banned for modding then messing with game files should be banned too. And again dude consoles don't have the option to change their res. And again if consoles can't do it pc shouldn't either. Either files need to be locked so people can't mess with them or the devs need to find a better solution. But something needs to be done so people don't get the advantage. You could argue that people have need to stretch the res but that its still giving an advantage. Shouldn't happen.

You don't have to go into the config files to use stretched or any other kind of 16:9 resolution like 1280x720 (which looks particulary bad for this game) for example which doesn't change your FOV. What DBD does from what i understand, is that it uses the same resolution you have set for Windows (so for a lot of people who have standard full HD monitors is gonna be 1920x1080). So whatever resolution you want to play with, you can just change it in Windows before booting up DBD and you're gonna have the same in game. You can go into the game files to force the game to run in a certain resolution regardless of the one you use in Windows, but that's not exclusive to stretched res, it's the same exact process with any resolution.

  • @Avilgus said:

"I play on stretched res because it's more optimized"

C'mon guys, please...You will be more respectable if you said you just want an advantage because you loop poorly or you play on "comp" and you need to stretch your res to keep up with how every "comp player" plays.

    Please, it's laughable.

No, it really runs better, but obviously the streamer with a fancy RTX 3090 is not gonna look into that. I have an old GTX 960 and because this game is also optimized like garbage, it's not stable enough to make me run it at 1080p even at low settings. I have tried 720p and for some reason it looks really bad and blurry even for that resolution. 1280x960 looks much better instead and runs even better than 720p, so sorry but i much prefer sticking with that.

  • Well, every killer that requires line of sight is progressively being nerfed by the new indoor maps.

People complain so much about Spirit but why would you NOT play her really? It's such a good feeling to not have a power that's dependent on the map instead of bothering with Blight/Billy/Nurse etc. and being more and more miserable as the devs continue to add trash designed maps.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2374773#Comment_2374773

Not sure what you mean by bugged, or what was intentional changes...but this thread isn't about that. I'd suggest checking bug reports sub forum with regards to it.

Nono, it's not intentional and it happened a bit before his nerf. I could explain more in detail but i understand it's off topic. If you compare an old Billy gameplay to one post nerf, the differences are very apparent though.

  • Maybe an unpopular thing to say, but i think it ultimately comes down to the fact that the devs wanted to make a successor to old Billy as a go fast killer, and Blight became more fit for that role than Oni.

Oni is kind of a boring and one dimensional killer to main in my opinion because there's really one way to play him which is putting Infectious Fright and going for mass slugs.

In general he's a noob stomper and lot of survivors will feed you easily, but a smart teams that splits up, plays it safe and rushes gen can make him have to sweat a lot to win.

  • @Mandy said:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2374656#Comment_2374656

Just jumping in here quickly, this does depend on how old the topic is and whether or not changes have happened in the meantime...just as an example, a 2 year old Billy thread will likely be closed because there's been a lot of changes to that character in the meantime.

Yep, including his first person animations being bugged.

Sorry if i ask the wrong person, but do you happen to know about any news when Billy's animations will get fixed? The devs said they were gonna fix them in a official stream many months ago but there hasn't been any more news ever since. I know it's not really something game breaking, but even nerfs aside, the broken animations really make him unpleasant to play.

  • @Aven_Fallen said:

You can run whatever you like but dont expect players to like it.

And IMO, Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer is basically the "I am bad at Killer"-Starter Pack.

Oh yeah, new Ruin Undying, the unbeatable OP combo that makes survivors have to cleanse 2 totems to make the killer remain with half a build.

Survivors are completely defenseless against that, it's not like they have a bunch of pretty good totem finding perks to help them counter hexes. Any killer that loses with this combo must be automatically bad at the game, there's no way around it.

Why do i always smell a certain flavour of salt coming from these type of comments?

  • @Phasmamain said:

I see that somewhat but I’m glad billy still has a similar power. Old Freddy mains literally have no one to go to now

Yeah but they kinda got the same treatment. Both of them just needed smaller changes and instead BHVR went on spending time and resources on unnecessary reworks that a lot of people didn't like.

  • He ended up in the same situation as Billy in a way. Very overrated killer outside of one strong add-on combo and now he's just stuck in a boring power while other killers got better and are more fun to play than him so everybody moved on and he's been abandoned.

  • I only play solo and these days i escape way more against Spirits than i did when i started playing the game.

Don't get me wrong, she's mega unfun to go against but people definitely overblow how much the average Spirit player wins games.

  • Survivors not knowing how to play against Billy doesn't make him very strong, it just means you get a lot of free wins, which is something that devs refuse to understand and they start getting defensive when people accuse them of having ruined Billy.

  • Freddy has alwaya been extremely overrated. The only thing that could make him oppressive was his sinergy with slowdown builds but things like old Ruin + Undying and the slowdown add-ons are gone so he lost a lot of power because of that.

He's not exactly bad but there are better choices now and he has a pretty generic and boring power so i presume this is why i've stopped seeing him after the ner.

  • @GrimoireWeiss said:

The truth is that he was nerfed because every Billy was running instasaw and trying to slug everyone at 5 gens with Infectious Fright. From my experience (it isn't much, I started playing in 2019), almost every other match was Billy and they all played the same way: slug everyone at 5 gens. This of course probably sent his kill rate through the roof, I wouldn't be surprised if he had the kill rate that Freddy had last year.

So yeah, you can blame Billy players for the Billy nerf 🤷

Everyone stacked charge add-ons because it was extremely easy to do, it's not like you had to really go out of your way to do it.

With Spark Plug (brown) and Primer Bulb (yellow) stacked, you already had 30% faster charge time. You also had Tuning Guide which did basically everything at once.

Blame the devs for making a bad job, not the players for wanting to use strong stuff. All they really needed to do was make things not stack and change the rarities a bit and it would have been fine, but instead they went from one extreme to the other like they usually do.

  • @Altarf said:

It was because he had a very high kill rate. Plus, Almo has gone on record (at least to my knowledge) that Hillbilly is his least favourite killer. This probably didn't have too much impact as the balance team consists of many people, but it's something to note.

They wanted to make that killrate go down, and they sure did.

Considering that Almo was the one saying Freddy's dream pallets were better than the snares, and then nerf both of them, i really don't believe he had little impact on the Billy nerf.

  • This is why you should be very wary of where you spend your money an a game like this.

BHVR likes to change things no one really asked for (survivor animations, map reworks, giving Billy a stupid roar).

If i spent money on skins only to find myself looking at a bunch of new ugly ass faces i didn't ask for, i'd be pretty pissed off too.

  • DS 5 second stun can be quite useless against killers with powerful catch up powers like Nurse, Spirit, Deathslinger, but you can't assume that every killer is like that because against the ones that don't have those kind of powers (Myers for example), is perfectly strong.

It's pretty hard to buff DS without risking of making it way too strong.

MAYBE increase the stun to be like 8 seconds but if you bring Enduring, the killer recovers quicker like it used to work in the past, but even that could very well be a bad idea.

  • There are various reasons as to why he's barely played.

Oni has some of the weakest early game in the roster and since he starts as a pure M1 killer, it can be pretty frustrating playing against good survivors who play safe and don't feed you easily. His power is very reliant on using Infectious Fright to slug and on some maps it can be more difficult than others.

Oni and Blight are based on Hillbilly, and most people who liked playing him before the nerf switched to Bubba, Blight, Spirit who are all killers who don't have these kind of annoyances that Oni has.

Also, all of his perks suck so people have no secondary reason to buy him.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2327741#Comment_2327741

Exactly. The argument "only chases are fun" is entirely subjective. Running around the same pallet for a minute before the survivor uses "dead hard into pallet drop" is not fun and having killers that can stop this with their power is not a bad thing imo

What else is fun exactly about playing survivor? Pretty much either you get chased or it's M1 simulator.

If some killers are too weak against good loopers, that's more of a map design and gen speed issue than a killer design issue.

Killers like Deathslinger are the reason why the devs are probably never gonna touch gen rushing and map sizes; like what are you gonna do? You decrease these things and someone like him is probably gonna become very busted.

  • There's no way they're gonna throw up everything and rework Twins to have AI functions, and even if it would happen hypothetically, i still wouldn't trust them by looking at what they did with the zombies.

  • It's difficult times for the 5 people that still want to main Billy who have more than 50 hours in the game.

Giga chads that BHVR doesn't respect.

I don't have an issue with his animations and like I said, I played old Billy a lot so no, I do not understand. And yeah, might be that some Killers are easier for a higher reward, but that's bad design. Spirit, Bubba, Freddy... all of them are quite brainless but get huge rewards where actually skillful Killers suffer for no reason. It's probably a "me" thing, but I prefer playing harder stuff rather than getting wins handed to me and that's also why I prefer Billy over Bubba, because he requries more skill.

Yeah but realistically you're not getting as much rewarded anymore for playing Billy, and the devs are adding more bad maps for him like the new RE one.

Older killers started getting buffed and new ones were released while Billy only received huge nerfs and more bugs when all he really needed was nerfing his add-ons a bit and not let them stack.
