I don't want this to turn into a Survivor v Killer thing. Both sides are miserable at high levels
Meh, survivor is more boring than literally miserable. I stopped playing that too because it got insanely boring holding M1 and going against Nurse, Blight, Bubba, Huntress 80% of the time.
-
The plan is the good old "go play something else".
Remember when the devs said they were gonna use MMR to make "more meaningful balance decisions"?
Yeah guess what happened? They removed Deathslinger from the game and nerfed Wraith's base kit...
Boons are a dumb one sided mechanic that only exists because they desperatedly need to come up with new perks every 3 months.
DBD isn't even much of a game anymore; it's a glorified shop where making stuff to sell is much more important than how the game plays.
-
Yes, he joined the dead killer club to meet his cowboy friend Billy.

@Zozzy said:
Because the devs "knew he was over performing but didn't know why" as almo said on stream. They then followed up by nerfing everything and calling it a day just to appease the rank 20 survivors.
He legit thought dream pallets were better than the snares, and guess what happened...
-
She's become as rare as a unicorn because if you want someone who goes fast, you can just play Blight instead since the invisibility is more of a gimmick now.
Like, her nerf isn't the worst because some good add-ons are still there, but directional audio cue shouldn't be a thing since it's a change that people already disliked in the past and Stridor has been rendered useless.
This idea of nerfing killers so that "now they will take skill to play" is some very delusional thinking a group of the community has embraced for years when the reality of what happens every time is that people either stop playing the game or just switch to the next best killer.
-
The devs have failed with Oni to fill the niche of old Billy compared to Blight.
Blood Fury is cool, but it's not really fun design to be an M1 killer for like half of the game and having to rely a lot on slugging. It doesn't feel like his power makes sense without Infectious unless the survivors play really badly and get slugged easily even without that perk.
Easiest thing that could be done is probably try making his passive recharge faster so that it's not as awful if people start playing ultra safe.
-
Funny thing is survivor mains always say "oh the nerf was totally needed", only to see the killer being rarely played. That happens every single time a nerf happens.
-
No, and anyone who says otherwise is blatantly biased.
There's no way they could have nerfed his quickscope without making him trash and clunky; that was the primary reason why people had fun playing him, so now that it's been taken away, he joined his cowboy friend Billy in the forgotten dead killer territory.

I think this is a massive misconception. First of all Devs is a term that's used to encompass all the Developers regardless of department they work in. This is a forum run by the Community Team, hence I'm here. Game Designers (which who most people have in mind when they say Devs), rarely come to the forums - that's not their jobs. Community Team is responsible for the running of this forum and for collating feedback, reports etc as well as using the forum to put out information, patch notes etc. Some designers do come here, but that is in their free time.
(Edited to add: QA is also here a lot, checking for bug reports etc)
Oh, i know it's not part of their job, but the truth of the matter is that there's very little dev communication in this game anymore.
-
It blows my minds how people still complain about Ruin/Undying/Tinkerer when the combo has already been nerfed and boons made Hex perks even more risky...

Well people for years have tried to discuss in a constructive matter, only to be ignored and constantly pushed to the side. I'm sure they've just broke and lost all care or respect for bhvr which is more than understandable.
This. People start to get more aggressive when they feel like nothing they say really matters, not matter how constructive feedback is presented.
As cute as it can be talking in a niche community like the DBD forums, there's not much point sticking around here since discussions often lead to nothing. It really feels like not even the devs care about this place since you very rarely see them bothering to come chat here.

a poll here on the forums? Yeah that will probably result in this.
but the forums are still a minority and if you had taken a poll back then most people would have wanted Freddy to be changed (because him not being able to attack outside of dreamworld was ridiculous) and Billy to be nerfed (really I never got why people now say he was the most balanced, it’s something brought up after the nerf)
and something else. They are slow. Extremely slow. Just look at OoO or DS. They listened to the community but just took ages.
That's just not true because you have to specify what people wanted to be nerfed for Billy. Most of the good players would have been just fine if the charge add-ons didn't stack, but the devs listened to the Billy OP posts full of stupid takes by the same bad survivors who are gonna jump to the next killer to ######### about after they got what they wanted.
A year later after the nerf they make pools on Twitter with this.
So yeah, you might want to listen to the "minority" if they actually know what they're talking about.

BHVR just genuinely does not know what they are doing, nor what is best for this game.
Don't get me wrong, from 2016 to early-2019 they did an amazing and outstanding work which deserves praise.
But after that...there has been nothing but downgrades and disappointments again, and again, and again...
That is why new leadership is required. A certain...General, for that matter.
I can fix this game.
I believe in you General, you're a man of good taste.

"If let's say Pig slaps you, do you use your sprint burst to run around a loop and wait, or you hold forward as much as possible and go to the nearest loop when she's getting close to you? That's the exact same thing you do against Doctor, Pyramid, Nemesis whatever. "
Yes, however it's what's after that that changes. You get hit and hold W to another tile. Vs non anti-loop killers, you could then try to greed another tile or stay at that tile and loop it. Vs anti-loop killers you'd just drop the pallet and run to the next tile.
At least from my own experience that's what happens, and is certainly what I do (but I also try to loop anti-loop killers because that's funny to me so idk it my personal playstyle really matters).
But again, if you know your team is rushing gens, pre dropping pallets works regardless of the killer.
The real problem isn't that the killers have changed, the problem is that survivors are getting better as the years pass in a game that's not evolving past running in circles and holding a button on static objects while staring at a progress bar.
-

Funny that you mentioned Billy, because i saw a double engravings main streamer using Brutal Strength because he was starting to get sick of smart survivors pre-dropping pallets in order to not give him a chance to stay in a position where they can get curved.
This idea that survivors suddenly change behaviour based on what killer they're going against is extremely silly. People who want to win don't give a ######### about who they're going against, they just play efficiently and leave.
@GoodBoyKaru Forgot to quote you lol

@GoodBoyKaru said:
Honestly this feels like the product of years of anti-loop killers biting back. When they first started releasing the anti-loop no mobility killers, survivors complained and were told to just adapt. Then when more were released, survivors complained and were told to just adapt, again.
So they finally adapted and everyone can see how boring it is to play this way, but it's the most effective style of playing so a lot of people will do it, especially because a lot of powers right now seem to follow the philosophy that looping = bad and is then counterbalanced by an inability to actually pressure generators without stacking slowdown on top of slowdown.
It's incredibly frustrating but I can't say I'm shocked. Survivors just finally adapted.
I really don't understand what anti loop killers have to do with this when holding W is just as effective if not more against M1 killers.
People are just naturally learning to be more efficient in general as the game gets older.
The average survivor of 2021 is much better than the ones in 2016.
-
CoH is the best boon currently and pretty much a power creep to all other healing perks in the game, so instead of people running Self Care/Inner Stength, they're just gonna pick CoH instead with medkits.
I don’t see how boons are making meta build for survivors so much different.
-
Because the devs don't even understand the mechanics of their own killers. Just an example

All the bad Billy players switched to Blight and Oni. Only real troopers are still left playing Billy.
Oh yeah, the 5 Billys who play with green Engravings + Lopro Chains or double Engravings who will get demolished as soon as they go against people who actually know how to play against these things.
People switched to Blight because he can actually win games instead of being just a cool gimmick.
-
I don't get why you would want more people to play him. If else, the fact that nobody wants to touch him is a good indication that he needs a change.
People didn't want to adapt to the dumpster fire buggy mess that is the modern Billy, they just want the old one back which on top of being way stronger and more fun, was also much less janky.
-
I'd remove the blink recharge mechanic, and not because she's weak with that, but i'm just not a fan of making things clunky and slapping cooldown mechanics.
It's kind of silly game design to be stunned every time you use your power and then having to wait another cooldown. Doesn't matter how strong the power, it's just not really fun gameplay.
Being forced to use certain add-ons to help with that basically makes the her more boring to play.

A most reasonable choice, I might add.
Not only the most balanced map in the game, but also one of my favorites.
Here, take this picture:
New Chapel and Disturbed Ward have that horrible brown palette and look boring X(
-
Are you playing with the best skin

Careful now, the devs really thought giving Billy a 110% movement penalty Primer Bulb as a purple add-on was a cool idea.
You never know what they take seriously or not.

Overperforming and fun to play against aren't the same thing, but both are taken into consideration when it comes to making changes. Freddy wasn't reworked because he was strong. Many players don't enjoy playing against Pinhead. Solving the box and dealing with the chain hunt at the same time is extremely annoying, as is the Hoarder/Franklin's box chaser build.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2625010#Comment_2625010
Not even remotely true. It has been datamined that there are generally far more killers in queue at high MMR than survivors.
That has nothing to do with how many people play killer. There are more killers in high MMR because it's much more consistent to gain points as opposed to survivor where there's so many more variables that influence whether you die or escape a lot.

They tried my patience far too much, I would say.
And hey, I do appreciate their work: from 2016 to early-2019. Everything else after that...no.
Just no.
2019 was probably the best time ever for killers. After that it's been mostly nerfs starting with the Nurse one and the devs becoming obsessed with making every killer feel clunky and "more fun to play against".
-

Stop complaining. You got exactly what you wanted.
Where did you get the impression that i was asking for nerfs?
If you ask me, they could have just removed the stand still bullshit at loops and that would have been good enough for me.

Thank god at least it seems they reduced the chance of getting into this garbage ass map by a lot.
Really wish they would do the same for all the other indoor maps.
This alone would make some games MUCH more bearable.

I agree. The roar is totaly fine: It acts as an audio que to the survivor that Billy is now sprinting and it fits his character. However his animation could use an update especialy when he stops on his own.
For me it is Legion. They are just not in a good state right now because...when you rather take a pallet to the face than your own cooldown you know it is bad.
Also I think that Twins could use an update. They are not "bad" but they are clunky and not much fun for both sides. The idea of being at two places at once is fine, Victor is a good piece of body horror and they allow for some interesting plays...yet their best way is to slug and camp. Damn, thats a good piece of work down the drain.
I like playing against Cenobite, Oni, Billy and Ghostface. They are all fine and I like playing against them just as much as I enjoy them myself (aside from Oni). All of them are interesting for me: Cenobite is fun because I know how to solve the box and mess up his teleport, Oni and Billy are overall two very interesting Killers (+ Oni has a sweet chase music) and for Ghostface...well, I play him myself, I know from where they approach and how they try to mindgame and I enjoy showing that I know all the tricks myself. And should I lose I get to learn something new for my own Ghostface-game.
No, the roar should go. Curves have already enough counterplay so the survivors don't need to be notified when he's coming around a corner. It also doesn't make any sense that they gave him add-ons for stealth chainsaw only for him to scream for no reason.
It's like how Trapper now sounds like he's having a good time when he picks up a trap; it just sounds cringey and unnecessary.

-
None since a bit before his nerf was announced. I saw him very commonly before. Guess i'm gonna have to go against Huntress even more since the devs clearly don't care about variety.
-
Deathslinger sucks now because they completely gutted his base kit and playstyle.
Billy sucks now because his base kit was never great to begin with, which was nerfed a bit, and the add-ons that allowed him to keep up got completely destroyed. Also, his chainsaw and animations have become super janky.
Both of them are weak and horribly clunky compared to what they used to be but for different reasons.
-
The biggest thing is that they should make him less clunky. Even watching someone play him looks really bad, but considering what just happened to Deathslinger, i really doubt they're gonna do something about it.

In all fairness, this thread's for B-tier killers, not for continuing to beat up on what's left of C-minus rejects and/or dead horses.
You're right my friend, i was thinking that B might be a bit too high indeed.
Though it's not that uncommon to see some still believe he belongs in A(ss)
-
Billy should refill his chainsaw with gasoline at lockers because mobility and insta down is oppressive overperforming with little the survivors can do to stop him.
Overheat and bad add-ons are not enough; he simply went from S+ to S tier. He's still a crutch killer for babies.
-
If they do play killer, they definitely don't play Billy, Twins, Deathslinger since they made them super clunky and sucked the fun out of them.

Yeah, and in 2019 when the nerf dropped people bitched and moaned until they finally realized its not that bad
Nurse only survived because of recharge add-ons (which is what everybody runs) since she's the only killer who's strong enough even base kit. If you didn't have anything to help with that dumbass cooldown mechanic, nobody would play her because she would feel so awful to play.
So yeah, not a proper comparison to other killer nerfs at all.

I love Pinhead...but.
- His M2 is so niche that it's barely worth using.
- His voicelines were removed without any compensation.
- He is hard countered by some maps.
- He requires addons and very specific perks to really feel 'right'.
Then again, at least he's in a better spot than Trickster. It says a lot when the last two killers available are mostly poop tier.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2597016#Comment_2597016
No, no he isn't.
Nurse is a good killer that is hard to play.
Huntress is a good killer that's hard to play.
Pinhead is like Trapper. He's a meme killer that's also hard to play.
The better comparison is with Billy, the king of high effort/low reward
-
I will say that the system should be reworked because it has no pratical use other than letting the hatch open earlier for the last survivor remaining.
It's very illogical that you put a DC penality when survivors can just bypass that by suiciding on hook; killers have no option to do that, so why is it something reserved only for them "because they're not having fun and you can't force them to stay"?.
I have pretty much never DCed because there's really no reason to opt for it, and i find hilarious people who do so since they must be so salty that they can't wait a bit more to just suicide on hook and get out with their BP and challenge progress.
-
There's no reason for them to change prices because a lot of people in DBD love complaining constantly only to shut up and forget about everything once a new Nea/Feng skin drops.
I'm not interested in buying overpriced skins to support this buggy ass game, but a lot are addicted to them, so there's no real incentive for BHVR to change anything. It's sad but it's just the way it is.

I dunno, it looks the exact same to me.
What i'm talking about is wanting the old animations back and hit detection of the chainsaw more consistent like it was before the nerf.

The same amount of time for Billy to get his bugs fixed and his add-ons to make sense.
So never.

25 killers in the game means you should be seeing any killer 4 out 100 matches
That's definitely NOT how it goes lol, at least not anywhere beyond very low MMR.
-
To put it short, it's a bad change because nothing justifies making a character clunkier and as such, much less fun to play; especially considering that Deathslinger wasn't very strong at all in terms of actually winning the game.
It really feels like they just wanted to babysit survivors in hope for them to stop complaining about this killer.
