To be fair, mmr would, in theory, allow things to relatively even out as is supposed to find relatively fair matches, yet we all know how it actually works.~
The current way we handle SWFs kinda makes that impossible either way. This isnt a tangent about "SWFs are OP", just that you COULD have the top 4 players in the world make a group, or you could have top players making a group with the WORST player in the world. Your casual mode is gonna be an awkward mess with MMR either way while your competitive mode would just have to set limits on who you can play with. No...your bronze and GM buddies CANT be in the same team.

Yet you gain BP in both scenarios and the ranks are simply for more BP which aren't used for much except offerings (90% of the time for more BP) or items you could get from a box. Now this is subjective but to me this lowers the "quality" of the "prizes". If these prizes are worth it then it's the same to me as if the above overwatch match has the prize of "honor of making a comeback" or something similar.
I could be wrong but as far as I noticed (aka not at all) performance in a trial doesn't effect the increase you get player levels. Regardless of that, you still do get increases in player levels win or lose (this I DID notice) which renders it the same as the above BP.
And due to the above getting things regardless win or lose, there's a decidedly lack of stakes.
I feel like if they DID wanna introduce a separate game mode that is just for separating competative players from casual... you're right in that there would need to be some kind of prize limited to the competitive queue as well as more strict matchmaking. Im not sure if overwatch is still doing it, but I remember earning a special currency that was used to get weapon skins. Higher competitive rank= more special currency at the end of the season. This gave a prize for competitive people to push for on the ranked queue, which kinda left the the unranked mode for people who didnt wanna lock in so to speak.
The only issue I see for DBD is its asym nature brings a unique problem. For overwatch, both sides had a mixed bag of player ranks so even if you were high rank, you'd have low rank teammates to even things out. For DBD... you cant really do that when you have a "team" of 1.
-
I feel like there should just be a toggle in the options in general to have all the characters placed in default cosmetics on your screen.
-
If someone is cheating, griefing or harassing, you can still report them. Anonymous mode doesn't change that one bit, it just makes it so you cant message them insults afterwards. Submit your screenshots/videos like you normally would and submit the ingame report.

because the people who are playing 2v8 are the same who play every other day and so they still feel the same way about every single game behavior even though the game evironment is significantly different.
Maybe its a personality thing then. I try to find people who aren't gonna rage if they lose rather than someone who is really skilled. Sure I wanna win, but in the event we have 8 people escape I dont want to deal with the blame game in my headset. If you can find a chill teammate, 2v8 just feels less stressful than normal 1v4 as killer to me. I have someone to share the blame with me for losses so it doesnt feel as bad.

When ever I play oni in base 1v4, I can reliably be in power a good part of the match and still have a lot of orbs around. The reason for this is my M1 meeting the survivor not the orbs.
At this point I am going to be honest Oni and his orbs is not the problem in this scenario in my eyes, the problem is specifically the pool of survivors is so many that you will have a few survivors that feed him every match
The mode in general is hectic, so I can imagine people are getting plenty of hits either from survivors watching the other killer or from getting pincered while running from his teammate.

But how many orbs are remaining on the map when he gains his power? Don't the orbs remain until he powers down, and then he can collect them all over again and go right back into power?
Yes, assuming he didnt use the orbs to go into his power then those orbs will still be present after hes done. Thats kind of the point though that new orbs can only spawn during that time frame when hes NOT in power. How much of his guage is getting filled from orbs that arnt spawning 90% of the time vs from the 45% gain he gets from M1ing a healthy survivor who might have been watching the other killer?

Depends tbh on how many survivors are injured long as you have 3 or 4 survivors injured even during that 10% that's a full power worth right there even more if they're forced to spawn more by vaulting or dropping pallets and if an oni gets a hit that's half his bar which is roughly 20 orbs worth.
I'm not an oni main but if I were to say it seems a lot more worth it to keep survivors injured to spawn orbs then getting a hit
I feel like if you have a teammate reliably keeping half the team injured for you no matter WHO you play, thats gonna set you up for success. Thats not even unique to oni at that point.
-
@Hoopme said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4107504#Comment_4107504
It actually is though as long as your teammate is getting injures even that little 10% can get his power back very fast I have had plenty of matches as and against Oni who's always in power
Im not saying you haven't, im just wondering how much of that is from sucking down orbs rather than the 45% gain you get from M1ing a healthy survivor. Hyperfocusing on orbs that arnt spawning for 90% of the game wouldn't help balance anything if hes getting his power from M1ing survivors who were looking at the wrong killer.

Negative while orbs don't spawn while in power old orbs do stay so he can have a back up supply 2 orbs spawn from a survivor every 3 seconds even if it's a short time he can be back in power pretty fast
Old orbs meaning any orbs that were spawned in the 10% of the time hes not using his power. How much do you think hes filling his gauge from said old orbs vs from getting M1s on random ppl running around while healthy?
-
@Hoopme said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4107496#Comment_4107496
Long as they're keeping survivors injured pretty helpful tbh
If hes in power, the orbs dont spawn. If hes in power 90% of the time like people are claiming, your teammate injuring ppl isn't helping supply orbs.

Legion was the extreme case of legion and oni legion could always keep survivors injured so oni always had a constant supply of orbs spawning.
Since they removed legion based on my observation it has been noticed just oni having a teammate to help injure survivors in general is still very fast for Oni to get blood fury. Long as you have 2 or 3 survivors injured oni can always have power really.
I've played some Oni in 2v8 I'm not great as him but I still do good cause I always have power or I just need to hit a survivor twice to get power plus old orbs don't despawn fast enough? Ive had matches where I run outta power and old orbs phase back in and I'm ready to go again
Orbs dont spawn while in power though so it sounds like your just getting your power mostly from those M1s. People are saying Oni is in power 90% of the time, meaning for 90% of the time...bleeding survivors arnt dropping orbs.

How much help is his teammate giving him when bloodorbs do not spawn at all while hes in power?

Players can't fathom the idea of an Oni player not only playing well but getting hits in and out of power. People will claim they don't want him removed, but will suggest nerfs that make him nigh unusable in a 2v8 enviroment.
I at least want complaints that make sense. People were saying before that Legion was feeding Oni orbs. They got rid of Legion, so now its somehow a mix between his teammate giving him orbs in the small period that orbs CAN spawn and the Oni landing normal M1 hits. Im not sure the people complaining about the orbs know the requirements on orbs and just assumed the place mustve been swimming in them. If the Oni is getting power because theres so many survivors out of place… Thats not really an Oni issue anymore.

i mean how do you play nasty in 2v8 really? you have no real way of knowing who you had last hooked. which one of you 3 bills was it? nor are you going to know who your team mate just did and you have alot going on and 2v8 is very fast paced. down who you down. there is no too fast of an elimination, survs have plenty in their kit to resist.
and if they unhook in front of you, well thats a survivor misplay isnt it? and whos fault is it that the misplay happened and now someones in prime position to be eliminated?
ive been told ive been camping survs in 2v8 when i had no idea who they were or even notice the hooks i pass by when im searching or chasing lol.
if you feel bad about winning, they feel better about losing.
I find it abit odd that people are getting this stressed out on 2v8 specifically. When I play it, I typically check out the DBD discord, find a killer buddy to chat with and have a more relaxing time than if im playing alone in 1v4. Consoles have access to discord too so unless your on Switch... Theres no reason everyone cant do the voice chat thing.
-
2 things…
This is a crossplatform game and everyone has access to voicechat tools
You too can use a voicechat tool to talk to your killer teammate

he immediately gets 45% of his power on a hit and has twice as many people on the map to hit. getting power off hist contributes as much as collecting blood off map.
so he doesnt need THAT many orbs to get his power, just a hit then suck up a few from someone the other killer already injured.
once he has his power he can just prock it, down the next and pick up saving most his power. then he can just suck up a a couple orbs sitting on the map and immediately have it again. its not just a factor of orbs on the map, theres multiple aspects in 2v8 that is causing him to power creep beyond expectation
So if hes getting most of his power constantly from HITS and not ORBS, why is the thread centered around the orbs then?

I think the main reasons Oni is so oppressive in 2v8 is becaus
1. Survivors are constantly getting injured, whether from Oni or the other killer, and so Oni constantly has tons of blood orbs for his power and is in power 90% of the game
2. Oni is already difficult to play against in power in 1v4, however in 2v8 it's even harder. Not even necessarily because another killer could be around, even disregarding that he is much easier to play with the buffs to his power, and in addition I often see him using Shadow so he can barrel across the map, downing multiple survivors for free while his teammate mops up the kills.
Ideally there would be some way to address the blood orb spawns, as him being in power so often is the core of the issue. However, if there isn't a good way to change that, then nerfing some of his stats in power would be the next best thing
If hes in power 90% of the game, that means orbs arnt even spawning for 90% of the game. Is the game bugged in 2v8 or something?

I mean it's subjective isn't it, it's like if I used the 1v4 queue times during 2v8 as an arguement against you, the context matters.
Most of the day it's survivors who have a super short queue. I think the people downvoting do have their reasons lolExcept my "argument" was just that queue times differ based off time and place. Thats not any kind of opinion... your own post even shows further proof that its correct.
-
Would be funny if you could do the other way around. Run a custom 2v8 on normal fallen refuge.
-
@Pig_Is_Pog said:
correct, however in 1v4 he will almost never reach the cap, in 2v8 he will basically always have the cap amount of points on the map at all times.
even in 1v4 the cap is enough to get his power 2.5x, im not sure if the cap is bigger in 2v8 but even if its not having 2 and a half powers on the map at all times is too much since it doesnt even factor in getting 45% per hit on a full health person- and theres twice as many people to hit
How is the map getting constantly filled with orbs if hes always in power though? Orbs dont spawn when hes in power.

Oni in 1v4 is balanced out by the fact you can coordinate and prevent him from getting his power early. in 2v8 its essentially inevitable he will hit multiple people dispositioned since coordination is near impossible with that quantity. ontop of that the 2nd killer gets hits causing survivors to just bleed orbs absolutely EVERYWHERE which in turn just gives him his power wayyy more than in 1v4. oni (specifically in his demon form, not m1 form of course) is one of the strongest powers to be in. being in it almost all game with a 2nd killer makes for a really difficulty scaled game.
Nemesis having 4 zombies is also probably something that should be re-evaluated but thats a whole new topic
Im pretty sure there's a max amount of blood orbs even in normal 1v4 meaning orbs despawn.

But there's a lack of prize and no stakes in normal DbD...which leaves me wondering why dbd que is "competitive mode".
You still have BP gains, changes in your killer or survivor rank and the Iri shards you get from leveling up. I guess you could include an item from a chest too, lol.
The prize for Congo mode is mostly the cheap giggle if the ghostface couches down to be on the end. You go in fully expecting to not get nearly as much as if you were playing seriously.

So I take it the above overwatch game would fall under "competitive mode" even if you joined last minute? Cause it seems like theres only one thing that makes it "competitive mode" which would then make everything that has/can have competition be that regardless.
The lack of a prize of any kind as well as no stakes makes it casual. The only thing the object being present really did was prevent you from staying on 1 map. "Winning" or "losing" changed nothing.

You get nothing from it except an eyeroll as I queue up the match again.
Kinda sums up everything I think about the hyper competitive lunatics here in dbd
Regardless of that fun thought, it doesn't matter who your winning against as you've put simply that both sides were trying to win. If they're still trying to win, is it competitive despite having changing members? If not then it becomes subjective correct?
Competitive=people are competing
If you want a casual chill mode, take out the competing. Theres no "winning" there's no prize. You can have that right now in DBD. Queue up with a group of 3 of your friends and say "Let's see if the killer will join our congo line". Then load in, fast vault afew times and start crouch walking behind each other.

Survivor buffs are not needed. They’ve already heavily buffed the 2v8 perks and made it much easier for the survivor role compared to normal 1v4 mode to incentivize more people to play survivor. I play both sides and I’m fine with that because getting more people to choose survivor role is badly needed in 2v8. Last 2v8 I had >50% escape rate playing solo queue and I’m a very average-skilled player. The killer queues are always longer in 2v8 because a lot of people want to play killer role for a unique experience compared to 1v4, especially with friends. It’s not because survivor role in 2v8 is too hard.
What was your escape rate in the last 2v8?Im pretty sure playing with a friend is what heavily influences the queue in this mode. Alot of ppl dont like playing alone, whether that is SoloQ or killer in normal mode. This mode let's them play with a friend in killer for a change.

Yet people are still trying to win in that match, even if not you specifically, does that then make the match competitive or is competitive going to be subjective to the whims of the beholder?
Who are you really winning against when the players are changing the entire time? Sure, theres nothing really stopping people from pushing the objective, but it gives the same energy as a 1v1 custom match in DBD and instead of doing the chase…just jumping in the hatch. You get nothing from it except an eyeroll as I queue up the match again.
A casual mode in DBD to me at least would just be a mode where downs and generators dont actually mean anything. You can hop on a gen to see how fast you can finish it with hyperfocus or something, but thats not progressing anything. On the other end, Hooks and downs dont mean anything and pallets respawn after awhile too. The game only "ends" when you pause the game and hit the leave game button.

Yes, which brings me back to what was asked: what makes the normal selection "competitive mode" instead of something like that?
People trying to win. When Im dumped into the last minute of an overwatch match, I really couldn't care less about the results of a match I wasn't apart of for the majority of it. My goal is to use the time to practice on a different character, not to progress the objective. As long as the win-con objective is still a major part of your match, its going to be competitive.

So when we mention "competitive mode" we're thinking along the lines of what League has. Normal, Ranked, misc like ARAM. If all it takes is pvp, or more extreme anything where something is trying to win, then everything is basically competitive mode.
I haven't played aton of different games with a separate competitive vs casual mode, but I know in Overwatch when you select their unranked mode its mostly just treated as a chill shooting gallery that people hop in and out of. You COULD hop in a match and it be almost over because the teams have changed several times already. Instead of stressing out on if I can win a match that'll be over in 1 minute anyway, I might try out a character I dont normally play as.

Hmmm, let me throw out what comes to mind.
'Lie in Wait' (which has double meaning on lie) - where if a survivor has been slugged for a certain period of time they stun the killer on pickup.
Problems - probably arguments that it would pair too well with DS (the lose-lose argument that I personally hate). Also that it would just encourage slugging.
'Blessed Boon' - killer is stunned when breaking a boon the survivor has put down. Alternative - this is an effect the survivor can apply to a boon that has already been blessed (whether by them or someone else), probably with some condition to charge.
-thought about doing something like a boon that stuns the killer when they enter the radius, but also extinguishes the boon, but not sure that could work out.
'Getting Dizzy' - if a certain number of vaults are executed by the survivor during the a chase (let's say 5), the killer is stunned next time they damage a survivor.
-potentially just a win harder perk were a survivor does really well in chase and then the killer is punished on top of that
'Survivor Basement' - probably something like an invocation, killer is stunned when they attempt to enter the basement.
'No, I Saved Them!' - within 60 seconds of an unhook and while uninjured, if the killer goes to pick up a survivor, the unhooking survivor has a pebble they can throw to stun the killer.
'No, I Healed Them! - within 15 seconds of healing a survivor, if that survivor is damaged by the killer, the killer is stunned.
'No Permit for Renovations' - We already can trap gens, pallets, and windows. A trap for breakables in the map.
-would need to be pretty strong given the frequency of breakables is map dependent
'Come and Get Me' (edit: different name, forgot this is already a perk which is in the shrine right now) - when the killer is in chase with another survivor within 16 meters who has more hook states then you, crouch to activate this ability. The killer is stunned, you are exposed and your aura is shown to the killer. Not usable after the generators have been completed.
'Static Charge' - when the survivor completes a gen it is trapped and stuns the killer if they walk near it.
'From the Depths of Hell I Stab at Thee' - for the long awaited DbD / Moby Dick crossover (or slightly different wording for The Wrath of Khan). the killer is stunned when they hook this survivor.
Static charge sounds fun, while lie in wait kinda just sounds like its stepping on flip flops toes.

That doesn’t seem like “naming and shaming” to me, but I don’t make the rules here so it would probably be good to get clarification from a mod. It’s kind of difficult to have a discussion about this when nobody is showing 1) what claims the CCs are making and 2) what specific points in their game experience are backing up these claims
I have. I posted a YouTube video and the "naming and shaming" involves the video creator themselves. My thread was removed and I got a warning message.

Thats why i explicitly stated it needs some kind of drawbacks.

Uhm, i just pitched a very loose initial concept idea of a perk without any specifications with the threads topic in mind? And yeah, stunning the Killer without a dropped pallet just like… Blast Mine, Head On, Last Stand.
I feel like in practice it would just play out like a predropped Chem trap pallet. The survivor is able to loop through the pallet while the killer avoids "breaking" it to avoid the stun until they.
-
@Mooks said:
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4107222#Comment_4107222
chemtrap only works on dropped pallets and slows the Killer after breaking so i guess its different enough? One of the drawbacks could be that the Pallet instantly breaks so it cant be comboed or something
So your perk idea is that the killer gets stunned at a pallet that NOT dropped?
-
@Mooks said:
Don’t forget Blast Mine which not only blinds but also stuns
As for new perks maybe something like booby trapping a pallet so it stuns when the killer goes through it? Would need to be limited obviously and possibly also some drawback.
Wouldn't that just be a better chem trap?
-
Wouldn't something like that basically ONLY be usable by SWFS who can plan for chases to go in a specific spot? You're not gonna be able to use it while the killer is chasing YOU, only other survivors.

I'll be honest, i didn't even realize it was that big now. It doesn't seem to have impacted my games from what i can tell, i just assumed they got unhooked by a team mate. I think 24m would have been a better compromise. If what Mozo said is true then place the blame where it lies - the people hanging around hook in the dark last iteration.
With this gamemode its kinda hard to be able to tell if a survivor unhooked themselves or were unhooked by a teammate since there's no way to track the survivors. You can ASSUME its not impacting you, but your also just assuming a teammate got the unhook unless your returning to hook and seeing 2 survivors.

It was a bug that was never fixed. You can still change the pfp by typing in the address for it manually or if someone else has a link to it.

I was equally as baffled at that buff. Sleeping Bag is INSANELY good
I'll GLADLY accept that tradeoff for the sauna rock nerf we all saw coming. I love using it to swap targets constantly and keep up the pressure.
