I did read the context. You literally asked, “When was the last time we got a general killer buff?”

    So I answered the question.

6.1.0 gave every killer faster kicks, faster pallet breaks, shorter attack cooldowns, shorter survivor hit speed boosts, and made gens take 90s instead of 80s. Those are actual numerical basekit buffs.

Meanwhile, the “general survivor buffs” people keep bringing up are mostly Solo Queue information/QoL changes and anti-camping measures. Apparently giving Solo Queue players information SWFs already had, or discouraging people from staring at a hook, is somehow equivalent to straight-up buffing killer numbers across the board.

But sure, I guess the issue is that I “didn’t read the context,” not that you asked a question and got an answer you didn’t like.

The person im talking to asked what about all the general killer buffs we keep getting. My question of "when was the last time we got a general killer buff" was not me asking for one. No one is asking for a buff here. listing off changes that occured several years ago is more of less proving my point. There is no constant general killer buffs happening. So… now that ive cleared that up, have a good night.

Many maps have been shrunk or reworked recently beneficially for killer, and these changes buff all of the killers.

Pallet changes also are beneficial for more killers than not.

Basekit BT change is overall a buff for most killers. 15 Seconds of BT was super OP and hard countered anykillers without insane mobility. Elusive status effect only hurts certain killers like dracula or spirit.

I think your confusing how well elusive is for avoiding chases altogether rather than just counting killer mid-chase. Unless the killer is at the hook when you got out, you running off and not leaving scratchmarks is VERY good for ditching a killer who returns to hooks after hearing the notification. Theres no sound, bloodpools or anything to give an idea to which direction you went. Thats the idea behind elusive. If the killer WAS at the hook and you got unhooked right at his presence, you still have 44 meters of travel time which is typically more than enough to reach a pallet. The extra 5 seconds wasnt really needed to reach anything.

Basekit borrowed time also used to only be 5 seconds and 7% haste iirc, then it was buffed to 10 seconds and 10%, then to 15 seconds and 10%. So the change to being 10 seconds, 10% haste, and 10 seconds of elusive is still stronger than it used to be as well.

Ppl have a tendency of hyperfocusing on what they lost with any change. Everytime theres a killer addon rebalance for example, ppl often will refer to it as a nerf since some of the addons were nerfed while ignoring the addons that got buffed. Thats essentially whats happening here. It doesnt help that elusive hiding scratch marks isnt something that survivors can typically see, so ppl will underestimate how helpful that can be. Even if the killer returns to hook after every unhook, unless theyre staring at the unhook while its happening… You have a very good chance to just disappear.

    What???

How are killers still demanding a general killer buff when they got buffed in basekit kick speed, basekit attack cooldown with many trash pallets on the map and gen went from 80s to 90s???

id recommend not jumping into random convos if you arnt going to look for context.

There are people claiming the elusive isn't helping.

Also are we sure they are on the same page as you with general buffs? They might be using different criteria.

Im assuming so because they mentioned perk buffs and nerfs separately. This actually got me looking back through the various updates to see when we got each change. The 10 seconds BT that we currently have for example was fine without the elusive when it dropped in 6.2.0. Somehow granting then removing that 5 seconds was a death sentence.

  • @Withered8 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4116176#Comment_4116176

I just said overarching buffs aren't done for the reasons i gave. They did nerf basekit bt though this patch which is a pretty big change. Killers had what perks other than thrill nerfed most recently?? Thrill nerf was pretty much irrelevant as well doesn't change what makes the perk so used. SB nerfs on the other hand literally killed the perk.

You said "what about all the general killer buffs". Maybe im missing something because the last one of those I found was the increased base kick regression 2 and a half years ago...which was tied in with the 8 regression limit. I think the last time they gave a straight buff was 6.1.0 over 4 years ago.

As for the basekit BT thing, thats not a strait nerf but rather a side grade. You lost 5 seconds of the BT part while getting elusive.

What about all the general killer buffs, survivor perk nerfs and killer perk buffs we keep getting? Overarching buffs aren't done often ofcourse cause they usually unfairly buff the S tiers more than the C tiers.

When was the last time we got a general killer buff? Perk buffs and nerfs happen on both sides, typically on the same patches even. The very patch that vigil for example was nerfed, theres also killer perk buffs and nerfs as well as survivor perk buffs and nerfs.

    RIGHT? LOL

I'm hoping that soon enough, people will understand that this game is meant to be the opposite of a hurry-up 'sweaty' DBD match.

The game has very different objectives than DBD which I feel is throwing them off. In DBD, the killer is focused on YOU. Even if they're left alone with a gen, they cant hack it to peices or anything. With Halloween though, you cant just let the killer have all the time they want with the NPC objectives because... they WILL be hacked to pieces.

  • @spirit72 said:

The main thing I noticed last night is that players—-both Michael and Civilians—seem to be playing it as if it was DBD, i.e. Michael is looking to kill all 4 players while ignoring NPC Civilians, and PC Civilians are just avoiding Michael at the cost of NPC Civilians. They'll actually just hang out under a streetlight or in the middle of the road once the cops show up, and then use the cops for protection. I even had one match last night where the PC's ignored NPC's for so long that I had both Laurie Strode and the other 2 'Special NPCs' killed and hung up on telephone poles within the first 5 minutes. Got most of the rest of the NPC's, and then left town while the players hung out with the cops. :)

Sounds like the same kind of people that'll camp main building and forget their objective is gens.

it does look fun, i almost bought it but i have watched gameplay and analysis of it and it has some really major issues that will have to be resolved for this to be a game someone will want to load up after a week or 2 of playing.

I have a feeling though some of the issues are too baked in to how the game was designed to be fixed properly, like how the win conditions work.

that being said, the game has sold over 500k copies so presumably is a massive financial success for the devs so may give them the rescources to not just abandon it like they did with tcm.

and also, perhaps people will like it enough to have staying power but im very skeptical of that for now.

the prox chat alone personally removes all my interest in the game when immediately its just teens and edgy people all peaking their mic while screaming at each other.

Right after sending that I spotted a YouTube video showing they just released a balance patch. Im not expecting a masterpiece that'll hold my attention for YEARS, just something to play with the Mrs.

  • @HexSlugged said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4115933#Comment_4115933

I dont think halloween has a future unless they make some major major changes to how the game works. I expect its going to drop off quite quick. when you take away the gimmick of people screaming at each other in prox chat and blaring their music over the mic, as people are figuring out the game and how it works are are already starting to optimise what to do, if there arent major balance and mechanical changes, the game will be dead, as right now while people dont know what theya re doing yet it gives it more life, this game has some extreme holes already showing by people who start to understand the game.

Considering its been out for less than a week, it doesnt surprise me that its not perfectly balanced. I expect they're gonna be tweeking things once they can see how players are playing. Hopefully we'll also get updates later on to include more maps and such too. My wife has actually been avoiding videos on it so we can play it this weekend completely blind. Looks to be a fun time from what IVE seen though.

If there's 40 killers to buff there should be 40 killers to nerf then no?

Yeah, there's plenty of those too. My point is your very rarely going to have overarching "killer buffs" that actually effect all killers. Sitting there with some kind of scorecard demanding a survivor buff everytime an individual killer gets buffed is not the same thing. Your math ain't matching.

Sidenote... anytime a new chapter gets released, it should be EXPECTED that there is going to be tweaks soon after. The devs are monitoring the effectiveness and popularity of everything they just released. Its going to be the same thing with the NEXT chapter in a couple months too. We dont need to mark the metaphorical scorecard every time new content is tweaked after its PTB.

Its not THAT bad, although my impatient half is kicking in since im right at the end now. I dont play every day, so im like 8 tiers from deep rift. Little devil on my shoulder is whispering "just hit the button... you KNOW your gonna make it in time".

  • @Withered8 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4115888#Comment_4115888

Yeah if you do the maths it is objectively quite clear which side as gotten the better changes recently, just add them up. We've gone from a heavily survivor sided game around release to a heavily killer sided game, yet when the survivors have the power its problematic and must be changed, but when it's killer favoured these people go "nah it's not a problem just get better!" Gaslighting 101.

What math? If your looking at individual killer buffs, its going to look overwhelming because there's so many different killers. 40 different buffs to 40 different killers is still 1 each. What math are you referring to?

I have to point out even with the recent buffs to those garbage survivor perks they are still garbage. No one in the right mind who wants to win will use them

I feel like THATS the general take you tend to see with these perk updates. The perks that are nerfed are the ones your already using while the ones that are buffed are the ones that are weak and dont see much use. Its gonna feel rough every time. Of course theyre gonna target META and strong perks for nerfs rather than buffs.

  • @Withered8 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4115825#Comment_4115825

They sure did just dish out nerfs to survivor this patch, and a whole new insane killer with new buffs.

Every killer addon nerf of recent you can find I can find a buffed addon to match it.

There were a mix of both perk buffs and nerfs. Its important to look at BOTH otherwise its easy to feel like your just getting hit by nerfs with every balance pass. Were gonna see a whole lot more of that with this upcoming big perk update. I saw plenty of ppl do that when Jason's deputy badge and sauna rock both got nerfed while completely ignoring the addons that were buffed.

  • Mostly just addon nerfs, which are usually mixed in with buffs to other addons. BHVR doesnt tend to JUST dish out nerfs...

Knight got a nerf just last week

  • Thats one reason I tend to wait on spending money on the rift. I get it tiered up, then when im at the end.. I "buy" it and immediately get rewarded the cells back. If something comes up and I end up not finishing the rift, then im not out anything.

Your perception of "a tiny portion of it", is highly influenced by simply seeing META ran a lot of times.

    Dbd, and its slow destruction of perk variety has always been an attack on stacking perks, which is why you may not notice it as much;

    1. Spine Chill vaulting speed being changes, was an attack on stacked vaulting perks
    2. Exhaust status effect was an attack on stacked movement burst perks
    3. Old unrelenting change was a result of stacked effects
    4. The current diminishing returns killing movement speed, vaulting speed, gen speed, healing speed builds, unhook speeds etc.

All of this has exclusively lessened build variety. Not increased it, not kept it neutral. Exclusively diminished it. So again, just because it's not META, and these builds aren't ran nearly as often, because they were never too strong to begin with, doesn't mean that these changes haven't completely destroyed an entire class of builds.

Considering alot of perks get held back because they could be stacked... yes, I think its a step to broadening build variety. While you wouldn't be putting multiple perks with the same effect in your build anymore, you can instead use perks that you wouldn't normally use alone because the individual perk values dont need to be throttled anymore. Theres no longer a threat of "forever freddy" so the individual pieces can be useful.

  • I feel like we kinda need to give it time to see where she sits. Between the new MMR scattering everyone and the time it takes for ppl to learn a new killer... its gonna take afew weeks to see how she is

  • @tyantlmumagjiaonuha said:

If this nerf is allowed, then from now on, we’ll need visual highlights and alarm sounds for Trapper’s traps and Huntress’s axe—among other things—to warn inattentive Survivor players. Similarly, to warn inattentive Killer players, we should make Survivors who are preparing for a Sprint Burst glow, and display warning icons and play alarm sounds above the heads of Survivors while DS or OtR effects are active.

Im just imagining a system similar to how aircraft will scream stuff like "PULL UP, TERRAIN".

  • @GentlemanFridge said:

That would require defining what a win is, which varies per player.

Wouldn't be the first time the entity has nerfed a killer to make them fit in.

How do I get paired with a baby Doctor one match and then a P70 Jason on the next?

The disparity between classic Killers and modern ones isnt enough, we also get brand new palyers and P70 Jasons in the same que?

The MMR brackets are there... just very loose. Generally its just basically 2 brackets, Brand new players and everyone else. Even then though, if the queue times is long at all, itll start mixing.

Its bad faith because what you're saying is deceptive and pushing the narrative that killer players are damaging the survivor experience even though there's absolutely no proof of this other than saying that matches felt worse after the pwyw feature came around. Just because some salty people post on this forum, that doesn't mean a majority of players are going to put on the sheep's clothing and try to ruin survivor experience as survivor.

And forgive me to not adding more context, I was specifically talking about killer duos in 2v8 since the mode is currently live and I forgot to mention it. There's no better comparison I can add to the team related problems on the killer side.

If there's one thing I have seen in DbD, it's that if something is possible in DbD it happens in DbD. And if it is incentivized it happens a LOT.

I think the benefits of PWYW are questionable at best because completing matches quickly without escaping or helping your team is incentivized by "Complete Trials" quests and having a queue time of <10 minutes (worse if it's even shorter) also happen. Those are 2 incentives for a player to want a quick survivor match of DbD where they may decide to throw. So if you have a selfish player who doesn't care about anyone else's enjoyment of the match who decides to bring Slippery Meat or a luck offering and/or let the killer catch them without much resistance it's already bad for the match. It gets worse when malicious players do even worse things and we know malicious players exist in DbD, especially if their last killer match was them getting their behind handed to them by a SWF that they couldn't dodge because queue times are so long. It's not like there's any real punishment for this sort of thing.

Honestly I like the idea of the PWYW feature but the way it's currently implemented I can see how it makes matches worse and killer queue times longer at the same time.

But go ahead and call my argument bad faith too.

Stumbled across this while scrolling through shorts and reminded me of yall's convo. Not sure if its cuz of PWYW, but it does seem like some people just cant be bothered to run.

Do you abandon any matches? I keep asking this because the stats page treats those matches as if they never happened. The stats site has my escape rate at above 40% but I know it's ignoring a decent chunk of matches I abandoned because of a team slug or slug for the 4k. I have no idea how inflated the escape rate it displays is. It's been an issue since they introduced the site and abandons and official sources ignore the issue, at this point the inflation feels intentional.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/4108851#Comment_4108851

How much Huntress do you play?

I find when I play her I don't need to reload after every single chase because often I have 4-5 hatchets after a successful chase and don't want to waste time reloading. Usually I am successful in my next chase with a less than full magazine. The few times I am not I generally am not reloading mid-chase, the reload usually ends the chase and I look for better opportunities.

My point was Im not reloading MID chase. Thats something you do between chases.

I find it weird, because although the queue timer says 30+ minutes for me, I end up entering in less than that when I don't enter the pwyw feature and keep track of time. It was accurate before but I don't know what happened after that. This 2v8 has been the fastest killer queue for me since the first version for some reason, I don't know why though.

I noticed that alot when I got out of my PWYW games. The queue times would adjust after each match. I'd get out, it would SAY 5 minutes left...and 10 seconds later Im in the lobby. I started just timing it based off PWYF matches rather than the minutes. 2 survivor games, then 1 killer game.

As for the topic... Until they release more classes, id say leave it as is. Im pretty sure they did the haste on demand with the idea that you would get off a gen and assist in a chase. Considering it still has exhaustion, its not gonna be stacked.

As for the OP's idea of limiting it to 2... 2 problems with that. Youd have this awkward shuffle in the lobby of ppl trying to adjust to a class theyd like since you can only pick a class other ppl haven't picked 2 of. You'd also just have a ton of lobby shopping, which would be horrible to see after waiting to get into a lobby.

I think a much better comparison would be Huntress and Jason. While Springtrap does have a projectile in the shape of an axe, the similarities end there. His axe has a unique arc, making him only effective within 16m or so, which can be a real limitation when a survivor has distance, but the advantage is the arc allows for shots only he can do. His axe also has the AOE effect when missed, which gives killer instinct and can have effects applied to it. On the other hand, Jason's spikes are literally just Huntress hatchets with a different reload method and a slightly smaller hitbox, I believe they even go the same speed. The smaller hitbox can make it easier to miss, but allows for a lot of shots Huntress can't hit, and his reload method means that he can usually reload mid chase a couple of times and never really has to abandon a chase to go to a locker like Huntress.

If I was going to suggest buffs, as of now for some reason Jason is essentially a 4.6 ranged killer because the haste out of power lasts almost half a minute at a time for some reason. I say get rid of that or nerf it and make Huntress 4.6. It might be too oppressive in chase, I'm not sure, but some killers like Clown and Huntress have all their eggs in the chase basket and they should be strong enough to get fast downs. In addition, if Jason is going to be able to have some of the best map traversal in the game along with info and invisibility, Huntress should absolutely be stronger than him in chase. Another change I'd suggest but might screw some Huntress players up for a while is changing the hatchet hitbox to be like a flat circle (to mimic the spinning hatchet) rather than a sphere. This could screw some Huntress players up for a while, and it would make the killer harder, but it would also make certain shots possible that weren't before. In addition, I think you could reduce her lullaby radius slightly to give survivors less of a heads up that she's coming.

These are just some things that come up off the top of my head.

Just wanna add my 2 cents really quick...

Generally Huntress isn't reloading mid chase. At base, she has 7 hatchets that she reloads before starting a chase. Thats the advantage she has over Jason. Jason has plenty of stuff going for him, but the reload mid chase isn't it.

  • Giving Huntress a pair of Nemesis's zombies is the opposite of "relatively small change"... Thats not only passive map pressure but also information.

    • The Infrared Optics/Termo-vision of the T-800 that we see in Terminator 1, which can be used information gathering of objects and other stuff around the map, as well as for tracking the Survivors accurately.
    • The fact that its an infiltration unit, means you can do something stealth related with it. Such as having the T-800 start with its human disguise and be undetectable. Then as the trial progresses, the more it gets stunned, the more of it gets damaged. Which causes it to lose more and more of its skin & tissue of its human disguise, and its terror radius increases everytime. Until in the end, only the metal body of the T-800 is left. Just like in Terminator 1.
    • An ability akin to Judgment's Hopeless Exile, the void subrealm of Haunted by Daylight & Dredge's Nightfall meter. Where once the progress bar around the Survivors are full, everyone including the T-800 gets temporarily teleported to the future battlefield of Los Angeles of the year 2029, where no generators can be repaired and the area is filled with map hazards and other bad things that can damage Survivors. Survivors must escape by either finding and entering a time displacement machine to return back to the trial grounds, regardless of which health state they're in, or get hooked by the T-800 in the area itself, where they will then automatically return back.
    • A mode that the T-800 can enter by fulfilling certain requirements, which would function similarly to Singularity's overclock mode, but not entirely.
    • Having the T-800 be able to request assistance from Skynet, by having it send other Terminators to the trial as support units. Where the T-800 can give them different commands to aid it, and if Survivors gets too close to the support units, they will start chase after the Survivors. However in return, Survivors can destroy the support units by stunning them.

T-1000 may have a more clear cut power, but if it ain't the T-800, then i don't want it.

Im sorry... i was full on reading this until I got to "the future battlefield of Los Angeles of 2029. That made me laugh too hard. Older movies dates for the future really dont age well.

I guess our experiences differ. I've submitted tickets before for various reasons (with clear proof) and they almost always got banned for it.

This was a little while ago though so maybe its gotten worse since then?

I got a giggle cuz when I did a search for the chat logs post, THIS was the first thing I stumbled across. The person posting this said it was their first game and its abit more than "you only won cuz of a perk".

I never meant to imply slurs and such were allowed, I'm saying a degree of 'trash talk' is allowed, which is like the example I put in my post.

The stuff with slurs yeah they have logs but I think if you do a proper report with proof, it's a guaranteed ban. Their ban system I believe is an escalating one so the more a person gets banned the longer it gets (Outside of permanent ban offenses like cheating etc).

Here's about the chat logs too...

Nah, they should make that harsher. You have way too many people feeling way too comfortable saying all sorts of crap because nothing happens to them.

I'm pretty sure a certain degree of "trash talk" is allowed though (FYI not condoning it)

Like saying something like "wow carried by broken survivor perk/killer power" and stuff like that. Insults/slurs do get people banned as long as its reported with proof (Which is time consuming unfortunately)

"Proof" is needed for stuff happening in the match, the chats on the other hand are all easy for them to see. Chat abuse is one of the buttons on the report menu for a reason, so no... i dont think slurs and such is allowed.

What can they honestly do about it?

Tell people that it's unreasonable to get so angry about your preferred role in the game? Both sides would metaphorically set BHVR on fire for even implying that, nevermind outright saying that.

Tell their content creators to not promote/engage with it? People will cry censorship/call them biased and so on.

Ironically the only people who can fix it, is us, the players and we've made it abundantly clear we don't really care to.

For every 1 person who tries to see it that way there's 100 others who think the game is slanted to one side and the other is full of toxic sweaty and so on and so forth. Simply having an opinion that doesn't align with someone else's experiences makes you wrong and probably biased, "you don't play survivor you don't play killer".

They can start by actually banning the people filling the endgame chat with insults and slurs. I feel like if they even did a 1 week ban for that... ppl would stop.

Your 'entire point' keeps changing because your arguments keep falling apart. My original point hasn't changed: no one wants to play Survivor, and Killer is more appealing and fun. Now your last resort is arguing the semantics of 'fun' versus 'balance.'

You're wrong again, and your 10-second generator example proves it: u cannot separate game balance from the gameplay experience. You are looking at a spreadsheet of escape rates and calling the game 'balanced,' completely ignoring that the mechanics required to get those escapes are so miserable that hardly anyone wants to play the role.

If 80% of the roles in a match are so unappealing that the devs have to offer massive incentives even with 10s queue times just to get people to endure it, your game isn't balanced. You've conceded on the data, the queues, and the fun. You're just arguing definitions now because you lost the debate, and there is no point in continuing this if you're just going to keep shifting the goalposts.

Meanwhile, Killers are still waiting 40 minutes just to play. Speaking of which, the wait is so long that when I queued 35 minutes ago I wanted to play The Trapper, and now I want to play The Spirit but cannot switch lol

Please link any post in which my point WASNT "dont conflate balance to queue times". Ill wait. My point has been this entire time that balance has very little to do with the 2v8 queue times. I brought up kills and escapes purely because its something each individual person can look at themselves comparing their own 1v4 stats to their own 2v8 stats and seeing they arnt dying way more in 2v8.

You already conceded my original point: 2v8 Killer is more fun. But your pivot to personal escape rates and assumptions doesn't save your argument—it actually breaks it completely.

You said you 'think its much more likely' players are doing exactly what you do: playing two Survivor matches via PWYW just to get one Killer match. That is an assumption, not a fact. But let's look at the math if you're right. If the massive pool of waiting Killers is doing double duty to fill Survivor lobbies artificially, and the Killer queue still takes 40 minutes... it means the dedicated Survivor population has practically vanished. Killers are literally subsidizing the Survivor queues, and it's still not enough to fix the bottleneck. If playing Survivor was actually desirable, the game wouldn't need Killers on a 40-minute layover to populate its lobbies. Personally, Survivor is so unappealing right now that I would rather sit in that long queue doing other stuff than use PWYW to play it.

Your escape rate logic contradicts your own conclusion. Think about what you just argued: Survivors are escaping more in 2v8. If Survivors are winning more often, yet the game still has to use PWYW and massive Bloodpoint incentives to fill lobbies, that is the ultimate proof the role is in a terrible state. It means Survivor is so unappealing right now that people don't even want to play it when they are actively winning and getting massive BPs.

I also never said STRONGER, I said more appealing and fun. As I said from the start: the queues don't lie.

My entire point this whole time was about conflating queue times to balance. You can look at escape/kill rates as a decent indicator to balance, but queue times alone just means its more fun. If they made the gens only take 10 seconds, you'd drastically change the balance without ever making the role more fun.

First, I'm saying it's gotten worse for me since the system migrated to 1v4. Second, there's a difference between people who are immediately being terrors for no discernible reason—like the thrower teammate I had a couple weeks ago running No Mither and Self Care—and someone who's fustrated because they went down 30s into the match and have immediately lost hope. I think there's a pretty firm distinction between people loading in to grief and people being unhappy about how the match is going. That's one of the things we've talked about here, the hopeless state of many matches just a minute or two in. That's how the three people in that clip probably felt, versus the Nea that made then feel that way.

I can definitely sympathize for the 3 ppl in the clip. I've seen my fair share of ppl who ragequit after I get a gengrab as Pig at the start of a match. It quickly sours the mood. That being said... Who tf looks at a 5 minute queue and says "let's join as a survivor and ruin a match real quick"? If someone is doing that, thats insane.
