Personally I don’t like the idea of having to bring a medkit to get a use out of it. It feels too restrictive without taking away the actual issue.
For me, the problem I have as killer is when I snuff it and by the time I turn my back it’s already been re-blessed. I think a better downside would be for the entity to ‘curse’ the totem ( I.E. give it a cool down) once the killer snuffs it. So the survivor (or any other survivor with a boon) cannot re-bless that same specific totem, and they are forced to look for another.
The other thing I would change is the healing speeds based off distance. So if the survivor wants to get the most value out of it they have to be as close as possible to the totem. Otherwise the further away they are from the totem the slower the heal speed.
This way if a killer hears the totem, they aren’t completely punished for snuffing the totem without an idea of where the survivor is.

I’ve gone against Spooky before (against his Huntress). He is a very good Huntress, can’t exactly remember the details but we barely got out.

I think one of the biggest elements that designers should focus on is maps and their entirety. I am talking loops, overall size, totem spawns, ambiance, no more breakable doors (topic for another time), legitimizing each power where even if the killer cannot use their power, it shouldn’t boil down to running around to rely on bloodlust.
Why?
Because while the game does promote learning maps, the interactions within a chase have sooo much more potential IMO.
Dead by Daylight is the only game of it’s kind that is designed around being chased with some evasion thrown in there. I wish there was some way in which both survivors and killers could interact more with the environment aside from throwing a pallet down or breaking it.
Like imagine if killers could break the ‘electrical power’ inside a specific room to make it darker or something along those lines, and survivors were forced to fix the lights in order to work on the gens inside that building.
I am obviously thinking out loud but I can imagine something like that making a difference during a chase and also promoting efficiency during the survivors’ objective.

This game is not for everybody.

You clearly don't play killer so I'll explain it to you.
If you get validated by DH 2 things can happen:
1) You think that you downed the survivor, you look at the ground for a bit only to realise that the survivor actually has been running away this whole time, giving them a free escape.
Or
2) You enter miss attack cooldown, giving the survivor time to reach another loop.
The 2nd one is the most common, and it wouldnt be a huge issue if it wasnt for the fact that the validation eats a lot of killer powers. Blight used to be able to lunge through a DH, now it hits a ghost stopping you on the spot. Similar with Huntress, Plague, Nemesis at pallets, Demogorgon, Trickster, Twins, etc.
Considering at least 3 survivors run DH in every match, this is a bug that killers suffer every single game. Thats why people complain a lot
So what about those of us who aren’t seeing this?
When I get validation for me two things happen, I hear the scream and I also see them dash forward.
I have never seen the fix to DH looked to see if someone was downed. They don’t just disappear into thin air.

Er... you were the one who started talking about at the end, lack of clarity in what that means isn't my fault.
Anyway, my point was quite simple: calling a narrowly-defined behaviour toxic is very different from calling some broad-strokes thing nobody can seemingly agree on a definition for toxic.
Right, I brought it up to show that the “end” result is not a win (I.E. that strat isn’t a strat, it might have also been because they just wanted to BM that one survivor. Which was in conjunction with what was brought up about “Camping is a legit strat” when there are many times that killers do not give a <bad word> whether they lose or win, they want to make someone feel like they are not playing the game. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black scenario to me.
Also perhaps it would be good if you read the context of the question. Since the question was: Whoever said that killers only camp at the end of the match? In relation to your comment about “if a killer camps at the end that’s a strat”. It was a direct response to that not to anything said prior.
Sounds to me like you like to take chunks and pieces of conversations and respond to them without any idea of the context.

Shaking your head at the end is not a strat, but that's not a general component of either camping or tunnelling.
Facecamping at the end is a strat and is sometimes the only thing someone can choose to do (if they have the killer for it). Sit on hook with one Survivor, or walk off to the exit gates and have everyone get out?
Like, the problem here is that camping and tunnelling cover a very wide range of behaviours depending on who you ask. Teabagging and flashlight clicking are narrowly defined.
Whoever said that killers only do it at the end?
I guess when you can find the perfect scenario which fits your belief, it makes sense.

" Pretty much the only toxic thing is insults/slurs in the after game chat."
Coming from someone with pretty thick skin who rarely ever gets bothered by these actions, I disagree with that statement. Something toxic is something done for the sole or majority purpose of insulting or degrading another player with little to no gameplay benefit.
"Camping/tunnelling/tbagging/flashlight clicking is not toxic...these are things in the game."
Camping and tunneling yeah those aren't toxic, tbagging and flashlight clicking are. Camping and tunneling are actual strategies employed to try and gain an advantage and while can be done out of malicious intent, aren't necessarily nor majorly done for that purpose. T-bagging actually is a disadvantage as you waste time in one spot, and flashlight clicking slows you down, both are just done to annoy the other side or rub something in their face ala "hahaha look I'm at the other side of this pallet and you can't hit me" or "hahaha look we all escaped". As you have already seen in another thread, flashlight clicking can also have negative effects on certain peoples health.
Anyone saying they click to "gain the killers attention" is most likely being disingenuous as the grand majority of the time its done its the same points they would T-bag and they already have the killers attention. There's also easy alternatives such as body blocking that actually put the survivor in a position to gain a significant advantage, not just be annoying..
"We do allow a certain amount of "smack talk" which is inevitable in only games"
Honestly this one I kind of understand, however:
Maybe you should allow a little less? You have a chat filter that filters out much more mundane things, I don't see why you can't add in "ez" and "baby killer" which are insults which you listed as toxic in your first line. As people in charge of the game and its chat, you are in charge of how the players interact with each other as well to a certain degree, if you allow these things then by your own admission you are allowing toxicity.
I'm not saying ban them off the bat or outright, but if you have a consistent repeat offender, you should at the least give them a warning and if they don't improve chat ban/restrict them as they are overly contributing to the hostility in the game. Its not so much "they said this thing" its "they said this thing over and over again to multiple people and are being more a negative influence on the games community and their interactions rather than positive."
Other online games do this, so that's not really an excuse.
I think it’s funny how you believe flashlight clicking and getting the killers attention to take aggro are done in a malicious way…. But somehow camping and tunneling is done as a “strat”.
A strat would suggest the killer has an intention of winning, shaking your head and sitting at a hook with a 1k at the end isn’t a strat and it is definitely not a win.
Just thought I would correct your double standard.
-
I mean I thought the point of playing killers was to kill all survivors not to protect all gens?
I use Corrupt but its not in every single one of my builds, just where I feel that I have to "set up" before engaging in a chase.

What you did is you tried a subtle flex to tweak people of the opposing argument. Again, it's inane.
Survivors don't feel the need to gen rush because killers tunnel and camp. They do it because it is their objective, it is starkly faster than the killers objective, and they want to win. They don't have anything to do in the game because 1 survivor can do all the heavy lifting by pre-dropping pallets against the large majority of the killer roster. If you actually played killer you'd understand that.
Also, if all three killers in a row were truly really bad at chasing and using their powers, then that says more about you and your MMR, as you are the common denominator in this story.
I may have shared my own experience and you can feel free to judge me based on that alone. In reality you do not know me. So counter-arguing by adding "If you'd actually played killer you'd understand that" just because you don't like what I had to say is what is actually inane. I do play killer and it is because I play both sides that I am expressing my thoughts on the subject.
When did I say it isn't the survivor's objective? Stop creating your own delusions of what people are actually talking about and stick to the actual point. Survivors are mostly at the killer's mercy and HOW they want to play. So when I say "rush gens" Yes I am talking about the objective, but I am also talking about how they go about prioritizing that objective.
Again, I am not sure why you are even a part of this conversation, because as far as I can see you are adding nothing to the civil conversation that was already happening.

Well, if I am judging by the way they chased, I am going to say they were bad at killer and thought survivors would be foolish enough to fall for the bait. No Ed was just like I said a "backup" plan in case the bait didn't work.

It always confuses me how the start of EVERY survivor story must include a personal anecdote about a killer playing the way the survivor doesn't want, and the killer losing as a result.
Like your personal beliefs about how a single match played out justifies the most inane conclusions about wide swathes of the player base.
Not sure what your comment is suppose to add to the conversation.
I never claimed that my beliefs or experiences justifies any conclusion. I just stated my thoughts on survivors who feel the need to gen rush and how because I (since I play killer too) understand their side more, because of the actions of some killer players.

Oh really you would 100% go against 4 meta savants who might I add makes up alot of the mmr problems and go through the game without ever thinking about camping them? IMO the meta for survivors has made camping more of a viable option than dealing with the broken nonsense that this game offers and yes while I can admit getting camped sucks why not have that be a reason to try and be more stealthy and not get caught rather than to put it bluntly having to use meta training wheels.
That part is just how I think but the main point I was saying is that unfortunately, atm survivor behavior encourages camping both causes of how much they complain about it showing it is viable and how much some survivors egg them on to the point they deserve it. While tunneling and slugging can be excused especially for people zurg rushing the hook as soon as you turn around I can get why camping is a pain to deal with but I can't agree on meta perks being the answer to it.
And Before you say it cause I know it will happen yes I camp too at times but I am trying to do it only at the end or when its needed but, its hard not to just cause I am still learning some killers and trying to find one that can be fun, viable and offers a fair game.
I am clearly speaking for myself. Yes I would rather go against 2 meta savants (whatever you want to call them) than stand at my very first hook and stare at the person dead in the face. That is boring.
I don't think people are complaining about Camping because they don't think it is viable (sometimes). I think they are complaining about it because it provides a boring experience. The killer should feel like a threat via their own skill and power, not via cheesing a playstyle.
I understand if you feel the need to do it because you are playing new killers. I don't personally do that. When I bought The Artist, I had no clue how to use her powers, and you know what? I sucked for my first few matches. I used what I know from playing killer in general and then applied it to that. Now I am better with her, and I still don't find the need to camp. Especially at 5 generators still standing.

@Akumakaji said:
I have never let anyone bleed out on purpose. One person was a griever and crawled away, so that I couldnt get the hook, but he couldnt escape because the hatch was closed and only one exit gate was open while everyone else had left. That was really childish, but eh, whatever.
Besides that, I have relaxed my stand on NOED in the DH/DS/CoH/BT saturated survivor meta and now again use it without a bad feeling. Not on every killer, mind you, but when I happen to get it thrown in my face while leveling up some killer I will use it. Interestingly a lot of survivors stil think that NOED is unfair and that its kills shouldn`t count, somehow. Well, you do you, and I do mine.
Camping on first hook is boring as hell, I give you that, as is getting tunneled 30s into the game. But if you tunnel, that means that someone saved that person, so thats only 2 other survivors on gens, which is valid. Camping one survivor while three others are doing gens, though, isnt a winning strategy. But this is a moot point as I normally play as if i had Devour Hope equiped, unless some cheeky survivor runs past me and tries to go for an unsave unhook.
No, I completely hear you. Some people have died on the ground, in matches where I played killer because I just couldn't find them.
I also have no issue with No Ed itself, but as @Phasmamain pointed out, it feels so underserving when you know what they have been doing the entire match, that No Ed will throw them a bone so to speak.
I don't question the validity of Camping itself. I just question lack of interaction it provides. The game should feel like we are in constant chases, not like we spawned in and all we did was hold M1 and left. I don't know if that makes sense.
Like, I feel the devs should focus on making the game more interactive, regardless of what perks are brought. Survivors shouldn't feel the need to bring DS anymore than a killer feels the need to bring things to slow gens down. There are ideas there that they could explore and make it a win win situation for everyone IMO.
-
@CyberDragoon656 said:
Unfortunately it's the same for killers as well since it gets rather dull and borning having to go against the same toolkit of perks over and over so why bother trying if that's what you keep going against.
I would 100% rather go against 4 DS/UB/DH than for me to casually sit there at my first hook.
At that point I might as well uninstall and find another game if I was forced to do that. I like the challenge this game provides, and there are certainly builds that you see more often than not. So I am not taking that away, but sure is boring holding M1 the whole match.
I actually ended up dying in one of the matches, because I sacrificed myself instead of the person who was so patient just not even attempting to let go. That felt more exciting than doing gens.
@RaSavage42 said:
Survivors would still "gen rush" regardless of Camping or not
Camping causes "Gen rush"
"Gen rush" causes Tunneling
Tunneling causes "run straight" (seems that most Killers are "anti-loop")... Gens are still being done while this is going on
"Run straight" causes Camping (to make this work).... Gens are still being done at this point
But all in all it's just the vicious cycle we find ourselves in right now
My main point was to underline how it was done on first hook.
They were doing this at 5 gens still standing. No one had came in with the intention of rushing generators. Seeing as I saw a couple of them opening chests, cleansing totems.
Like, I understand the need to do it when certain elements get brought into the match (like strong perks being used or bad map RNG) but to me it just feels like they didn't even try.

You'd be surprised how accurate you are. Many complain survs are slow to adjust to stuff, but many a killer who thinks they're hot shytt haven't or can't adapt to good coordination from very good survs, solo or not.
Yep, there can still be coordination amongst solo survivors and also just bad killers.
-
It's not that strong.
Although I am starting to think that for some of you it is.
-
I think having played killer and seeing how easy it is to do it, I do mind it.
Survivors have to bring perks in order to ease the playstyle. So because of that this kind of playstyle will always feel cheap for me.
I am also talking about those players who do it fully aware that they are probably going to throw the match. Not the “oh darn you again, can’t I find another survivor?” Situations which is common in my matches too.
It’s the same reason why I don’t like camping too. I think these mechanics to an excessive level, make it boring for the opponent and in a way unbalanced because there is very little downside for how much you are getting in return.

Undying "could procc to often" while boons have no limit of getting relit and i´m biased because i think both things should be treated equally?
I think you are biased because you are trying to deflect the point that Undying in its original form was not balanced.
I think there are elements about boons that they could change, but I personally don’t feel that they are the same exact problem as what old undying was. For one, one has to take time out of the main objective to get the effect, undying procs without the killer needed to do anything.
Though once again, I never once said anything about boons. I am just not going to agree with someone saying survivors not doing totems was the reason it got nerfed. Because that is not true at all.

What exactly was broken about it?
The fact that it could be relit as often as someone wanted?
The fact that the player could choose where to set it up and relocate its ubication without any problems?
Or the fact that several could be lit around the map?
Ohhh wait... i´m describing Boons...
No, the fact that it would procc too many times. Everyone understood why it was nerfed.
I never once brought boons in my argument, so I don't know why you even bring that up. Stop being so biased.

Tbf I still enjoy playing Hillbilly. Really the only time I don’t really have a good time is in indoor maps.
-
You answered your own question, every action and decision you make to be the best teammate while surviving is what they are not doing.
The game is filled with A LOT of decision making and the unfortunate part is that some players do not understand how one bad decision can cost the game.
This is also the reason why I never partake in the idea that solo somehow is worse than SWF because of the communication they lack. Actually no, It’s reliability they lack.
Meaning I cannot expect them to do the things I would do for them (do gens any chance I can, not be afraid to take a hit every once in a while, take some aggro off of the death hook survivors, etc the list goes on)
So when you add all of that and the fact that many of them outlive you for simply never getting found and dodging aggro. Even when you have a high MMR many of these people will filter through even though they were basically “carried” all the way through.
It sucks.

I want to spend a couple of words on this topic.
The battle between hackers and anti-cheats is never ending, as much as people think we do not ban people, bans happen quite often, the anti-cheat gets updated constantly, but it's simple to understand that you can't block hacks that haven't been found yet.
To put it simple: hackers create hack, EAC updates to block it, so hackers create new hack, then EAC updates to block this one too, and so on and so forth.
It's a continuous fight.
Thank you for taking the time to explain some things.
I know it is a continuous fight and I honestly did not know that is how hackers worked.
It saddens me that these people have to ruin the fun for many, and that even after reports were made they have the audacity to go in the comments only two days ago and gloat about how much “fun” they are having cheating.
-
@Akumakaji said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2694540#Comment_2694540
Here we are going in circles. You are right: bodyblocking a camping killer certainly feels good and is the right thing to do, but once learned you will employ this tactic against every killer who comes back and tries to defend the hook, or when a teammate tries a super unsave cheeky unhooking right in the killers face. And here the killer gets punished for doing nothing wrong, nor can the survivors be criticized for employing a technique that works. So we are looking for a solution that shuts down the offensive use of BT, that mostly punishes good, non-camping Killers, while leaving its core intact, ie shutting down tunneling.
So what I am gathering is that they need to make improvements on the game itself to be able to tell if it is a warranted body block (They were camping anyway) or not a warranted body block (The killer was not idling at the hook, thus they were not face-camping) The game then allows there to not be any collision between survivors.
That would be a fair change IMO. At least then, the person doing the saving understands that they will not be able to body block them.
-
@StarLost said:
Yeah. They said they are looking into it - but these days it's a bit of a losing battle.
On one hand EAC is a joke. It's so easy to bypass that other games' modding communities include instructions on how with their mods.
On the other hand, hacking is so sophisticated now and such a money machine that even games with expensive proprietary anti-cheats have problems with hacking, unless their game is almost entirely handled server-side. It's sad, but as things stand - if you've got a spare 80 bucks a month (sometimes much less) you can buy a full hacking suite for basically any game.
Wow. People are actually spending money to hack? Yikes
That is kind of sad tbh.

Probably because camping is a legit strategy.
Forcing the Killer into a lose-lose situation is a legit strategy, but I don't believe it should be.
It's like telling a group of Solo Survivors to go cleanse 5 totems (which will probably take 3 minutes at least) on the assumption that the Killer may have NOED. It just isn't right. They lose no matter what.
Sorry but it's not a legit strategy when the killer only gets 1k with 2 hooks (at best). That isn't playing the game, it is idling at the hook. They might as well be afk at that point.
A real strategy would suggest the killer wants to win (I.E. PLAY THE GAME). The game isn't downing your first survivor and then standing still for the remainder. That isn't Dead by Daylight.
-
@Pulsar said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2694516#Comment_2694516
Correct.
Remove the collision and that solves that issue.
Also, BT doesn't exclusively punish camping. I normally see it used to facilitate unsafe unhooks, for example, I hook someone, turn away and they get unhooked.
I sure as hell wasn't camping.
So until Camping is properly dealt with, why shouldn't people try to block if the killer is Camping?
I don't see any good reason not to. They deserve it at that point.

Oh yeah, tell me more about how standing in a doorway so that I can't go after the guy who unhooked you is good game design.
It's a lose-lose and it needs to go.
TBF you can also body block (as killer) the recently unhooked at that same doorway and wait BT out just to down them again...
and that isn't good game design either. Not to mention if the killer was already putting themselves in that situation by Camping just to force a trade.
Two bad game designs in one.
-
Sorry but as long as Camping is not properly dealt with, BT can stay as it is for all I care.

I mean, some of us aren't struggling.
I for one never play Nurse or Spirit. I think they are overrated. I like my matches to be challenging, not a walk in the park.
A big part of being able to play killer is not to rely on the power itself. You have to also know and understand other things like survivor movement (chases), Pressure (listen to who/what is being worked on), Tracking, etc work.
So when it comes down to it, the power itself isn't what is carrying me.

I don't know how much it needs to be said for people to get it threw their head that people complain about this game because they love it and they want it to be better. Criticizing a game doesn't me you hate it, and to think otherwise is foolish.
There are people that complain just for the sake of it, don't get me wrong, but to use that as an excuse to disregard actually valid complaints is stupid
The problem isn't people criticizing it, it is how they go about it.
Saying "Game sucks nerf this and that" just because YOU can't deal with it, doesn't make it a balance issue. It just means you need to get better at the game.
Not everyone who complains about this game... loves this game. If I see an immature/boderline troll post I am going to assume you either have no forum feedback etiquette or just simply love to complain.
My point is usually when people do not like something they move ON to something else. Which is appropriate measure when you think of the number of people who constantly posts about how this game is putting their mental health at risk.

Anyway you will make an exchange, the guy who un hook doesn't get resistance.
The Booba can chase you after he hit you and you die, nothing to do here.
Just learn to scape form Booba in chase not that hard
You do realize that Bubba doesn't care there is a body blocking the other survivor right?
They will go down along with the other person.
