Break.chase is fine. But what if all 4 survivors are loopers. You ain't getting a hook.
Unless they meet their match. If you are not aware of how to run a loop and everything involved with it, yes you are probably going to have a rough time.

Eh, not necessarily. If it's the start of the game and there's full map resources, there's not much you can realistically do to catch good survivors that know where to run, and switching targets isn't going to help matters either; all you can do is remove the resources as efficiently as you can.
It's impossible to nerf SWF, though, because SWF's power comes from factors that are external to the game. You can only fix the issue by buffing solos with the sort of things that SWF already has and then rebalancing the game to compensate for universally improved information being basekit.
I have never lost 3 gens in any match where I didn't break chase soon enough during my first chase. Maybe in old maps yeah, but the new and reworked maps don't have that effect. You would have to be pretty bad at breaking chase to lose that many gens.
Not to mention if you are reluctant to break chase and the survivor is good, then it's gg.
-
If you lose 3 gens in one chase, that says more about your ability to catch/break chase than the survivor's objective.

Most people are wrong. Camping INCORRECTLY is boring and a crappy strategy. Camping when it's a good strategy is the most fun a killer can ask for.
Clicky squad swarming you, trading places on the hook, getting slugged, crawling far enough away for a heal, healer gets slugged. Oh #########, Bill's unbreakable! Not smart enough to run away and heal up though, so he's down again. Getting to death hook for everyone now, did Steve just break off to finish gens or scout the hatch? Aw man, I killed two, but I'm way too far from a third hook to turn this into a snowball, Dammit Bill got away again! That sumbitch hates dying. Where the hell is Steve?
It's this simple: If you're camping and it's boring, stop, it's a bad plan. They're doing gens, you're boring and going to lose. Get back on patrol now.
But if they come running, camping is your business and business is fun as hell. The survivors might get mad, but they had an exciting match and they get mad no matter what.
And this idea that camping or tunneling just means an easy win in this game, that's only true at entry level. At higher MMR there are plenty of survivors that can handle camping/tunneling, even against Bubba. So I've heard.
Again, I am not going to tell a group that Camping is boring even if my idea of it is different. I am going to move on get my points and go.
If someone tells me that they had a boring time because I camped them I don't try to debate, because it isn't up to me to decide what is/isn't boring to them. However, there is something to be said about it since many people on these very forums complain about it because it is very common.

Oh, I'm biased and I've never claimed not to be. Although, funnily enough, I've been called a Survivor main more often than a Killer main because of my mini-crusade against NOED.
I think we are arguing about vastly different things and I see no way for us to agree. I suggest we stop now because it's begun to become personal. It would be the responsible and adult thing to do.
I'll shake your hand on that. Because contrary to what you may believe right now, I do agree with other things you have said in the past and I think you are a swell guy.
-
@Pulsar said:

I think you are biased and need to check your own double standards.
You believe "camping" is a boring playstyle but refuse to acknowledge the Survivor equivalent. Not only that, you will decry people for using camping in response to Survivors playing in an extremely efficient but boring way.
You can think whatever you want of me. Not you pointing out my "bias" when in every other thread where someone is complaining about killer in some form you are right there to come to their defense. It's no wonder people think you are a killer main (Yeah I have seen people call you that).
I play both sides and I am well aware that there are discrepancies in this game that allow for one side to out-pace the other. However, I am not going to compare Holding W or any of the things you have listed the same as flat out Camping. Not when I understand how tremendously easy it is to do it.
What if they had gotten a killer-sided map? Do you think OP would have simply... not opted to use that same playstyle if they had been doing poorly? I don't think so. There is a reason this tactic is deemed as playing poorly (even by other killer mains).
-
@Pulsar said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2719237#Comment_2719237
I don't believe OP is asking for celebration. They are asking that people check their own double standards.
Oh? And by your own logic, camping takes skill too then. You must know how to not get baited out when a Survivor goes for a grab. You have to know the map and the optimal hook spots for camping.
Whatever dude. You know what I mean. Celebration/Acknowledgement/etc. The things that leave a bad killer dreaming for who wins via taking "shortcuts".
No, I believe my logic is that Camping isn't equivalent to any of those things you've listed. That is where I am at.
-
@Pulsar said:

"the survivors were very efficient, splitting up, doing gens, holding W incredibly early (which on Haddonfield.. bruh), body blocking for each other, using COH."
The OP even says they didn't have a problem with that. They should play to win. They say their issue is that the Survivors imposed a double standard of OP by being upset when OP played to win as well.
Both strategies are unfun and boring. It's always been my personal rule that if I'm trying to win, I can't begrudge the other side for doing the same.
I am sorry but Camping is not the equivalent of those things. Even holding W at least takes some skill because you have to understand timing and know the map incredibly well. Camping is basically acknowledging they are outpacing you, so you flip the switch to "now I get pressure for free". Because I can guarantee you that if they were playing smarter and stuck to gens like they "claim", the Demo would have lost.
Also even if I were to agree that he is meeting boring with.... Boring. I would never expect anyone to celebrate my boring playstyle. Especially when I've already said that Camping has elements that need to be looked at (and they are) and for a very good reason.

No, by using a "cheesy boring tactic."
Come again? What is the cheesy boring tactic they did?
Have the game lottery pick Haddonfield? Cuz there is nothing more I hate than when a killer gives up on spawn.
I know you are trying to come to their defense, but you weren't there and I am only going by the anecdotal facts they are giving us.

They shouldn't have the mindset that the Killer owes them something and must play a certain way.
Even when I get camped or tunneled, even though it isn't fun, I understand the necessity.
It just makes me argue even harder for unfun (if absolutely necessary) mechanics to be removed and reworked into something more fun and healthy
I don’t understand the necessity because I myself don’t do it to force a win. Also who am I to tell someone what their mindset should be? Boring is boring.
So, yes when I see someone else do it the first words in my head are “I guess they had to do what they did” but don’t expect me to celebrate with you. Because I do think Camping is broken because of this.
As I said before take the points and go. I don’t owe you a GG or a celebration for your victory because you chose the (IMO) boring cheesy way.
-
So you chose to not play nice (meaning the boring way) by Camping and expected them to what? Cheer you on? I don't get it.
Look. I get why you did what you had to do but they don't owe you anything. Yes, not even sympathy. You yourself just told us how you were already prepped to lose because of the perks you were running so much that you had to rely on the playstyles you chose. So it shouldn't come as a surprise if others don't enjoy those playstyles.
I am not going to say "Accept your loss" but understand that you shouldn't also expect people to not be bored by that playstyle. Like, at that point just take your win and move on. Because it seems as if you aren't satisfied even after you beat them.
They do not owe you their satisfaction.
-
Those games have to establish themselves first, in order to become "competition" and even then they don't have any licensed killers/characters and that is one thing DBD will always have over them.
-
I firmly believe there is a “type” for these kind of players because usually the same happens to me.
My team goes down because of their own altruistic/can’t loop ways. The moment I engage in a chase, gens start to pop and the killer ends up mad at me. 😂
Then my team being the great heroes that they are end up giving them more hooks/kills. Had a Trickster do that to me yesterday even though I did nothing to provoke him, I simply ran him long enough to raise his blood pressure apparently.

Thing is what is and isn't camping/gen rushing is pretty vague.
Be honest here, in those 10 matches you say they camped. Did they actually camp and never left the hook or did they just happen to return to the hook when a save was happening. Or were your teammates hovering the hook?
Same with gen rushing, if there weren't any toolboxes with bnp's involved you probably weren't gen rushed but failed to create pressure.
A replay system to see your match from different points of view would be a real eye opener to some people. A lot of the matches some people call genrushing still hit the 10 minute mark in which one survivor never even saw the killer and seeing how obvious the scratchmarks or crow that flew up when you went to unhook while the killer was still kicking a pallet in the area will also make you second guess any camping callouts
Camping and genrushing are real issues, but 95% of the time they are used as excuses
I mean I assume when anyone shares their experience during a match, everyone speaks from their own perception of what they see through their own eyes. Which is what I am doing.
I get how certain things are viewed from a different lense, but having played the game for many hours (6.3k hours to be exact) and half of which have been playing killer. I understand the nuances and subtle differences of why/how things might go down the way they do.
If I run a killer and I feel like if I was them I would have left me a long time ago, because I understand how other people might be on a generator and I've already wasted enough time. That is an example of the why, when I attempt to think of an excuse for their actions. An excuse because that is all it is...because a strat it's not. Not when you've already lost the game and you are only face-camping because you think that is the pressure you earned.
Some of those matches had that type of killer, and yes they were staring me down the moment I went on a hook.
There were also times (as I mentioned in the other 5 matches) where I went "Ok I get it, it's EGC and it's their last hook". That is just as important as understanding how broken it can become if Camping is done when it's not EGC. That is what some of the people of this very forum choose to accept as a "Legit Strat" disregarding the specific circumstances meanwhile complain that gens fly.
I've been in matches where killers were quick to point out "Nice gen-rush" and nobody brought anything to even remotely make that true. Gen-rushing isn't holding M1 without hesitation because the killer is too focused on one survivor for too long, anymore than Face-camping is hovering around the hook because all the gens were done and there is nothing else to pressure.
-
I mean out of all my matches tonight (15 to be exact). 10 of them consisted in the killer camping while 3 other players pushed gens out of the way. I am also not counting the other 5 in which there was camping but was at times when there was nothing else to pressure.
You may not experience it but many other people do. I.E. It is more common than you think.
-
@Mandy said:
https://youtu.be/Pz7f_WPutq8?t=5220 I'll just leave this here.
This is amazing news.
I for one understand that not every single element of Camping can be removed or punished, but at some point Face-camping does feel like a cheesy playstyle because it promotes not having to patrol gens to create pressure, but rather get it for free right at the hook.
Face-camping has made the game very unfun and unfair for the newer players. Especially since the only means to slow it down are via perks. Perks like DS that the newer players do not have access to right away.

Whataboutism at it's finest.
T-bagging doesn't progress generators, BMing at the hook while camping brings a survivor to their second phase.

Ok, let me try again.
The theory is that, if camping were altered/punished/fixed, so it cannot happen, then Survivors get more unhooks.
Which means Killers are forced to 4 hook each Survivor, in theory. Because they can't camp to confirm kills. This does not take into account Survivors not unhooking. Or Survivors killing themselves on 1st or 2nd hook.
So if Survivors can unhook more, it's not a far reach to think that a 4K will require 12 hooks more often.
And if and if 3 hooks per Survivor is the new norm after a 'fix' to camping; then Gen speeds will need to be looked at at the same time. Or the game becomes unwinnable for all but Otz-level Killers.
It's all theorycrafting and a warning to not just look at 'camping' in a vacuum, like some Survivors want to do.
I don't think that whatever they do with Camping is going to result in not being able to Camp. That is my theory.
I just don't think Camping correlates with Gen speeds as an issue especially when they have already done things to gens via Co-op speeds nerfs, along with toolbox nerfs. Meanwhile they have never done anything regarding Camping aside from the being unable to unhook face-camping change.
-
@AngyKiller said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2717853#Comment_2717853
I'm not saying I expect to 12 hook every match.
I'm going off the idea that 'camping' needs to be fixed/removed, which will probably FORCE Killers to 12 hook if they want a 4K.
But the developers haven't even mentioned having to be forced to hook someone 12 times in order to get a 4k. So I am not sure where that idea originated from.
The problem with Camping is not everyone is using it as a 'tactic'. Many of the players who use it just want to use it as a form of BM. So for me, that is one element that needs to change.
-
@AngyKiller said:
Bloody hell, People:
My post is not about how viable camping is NOW. It's about the state of the game after a theoretical fix, and how gen speeds will HAVE to be altered as well, if Survivors expect a fix to make Killers 12 hook.
Not according to those of us who do not camp and get at least 9 hooks.
You aren't meant to hook 12 times every single match. At some point you will meet your match.

What gen speeds?

You make a mistake, you're prevented from playing the game. I got into the beta like 3 days ago and gave my account away to my bf after a day because I couldn't physically play the game to learn it. There's nothing fun about being effectively AFK, as both teen and monster, for the majority of the match. There's nothing fun about facing very good players having sub-5 hours of playtime. Wasn't fun the first game, wasn't fun the 20th.
It isn't a fun experience without matchmaking and with a small player pool, particularly due to staggered entry. I didn't really care for it, my bf was the one really excited, and so now I just hate it. Plus it made some... Really terrible thoughts a whole lot worse, and through forcing myself to play to try and enjoy it I almost did something massively regrettable. Once I realised that, immidiately uninstalled.
Just not my game. I don't like the gameplay loop, it isn't fun bc of no mm and staggered entry, I didn't care in the first place and it has massively adverse affects on mental health (which means this is actually kinda relevant to the thread now again do yay).
I'll try it again when it goes into EA and has a larger pool with matchmaking. And if I still don't like it my bf and I will have to find a different multiplayer game. But until then for my sake and the sake of others, I'm not touching that game with a 50ft pole.
Yeah I understand what you're saying, I've seen many people try it for the first time just to spend the whole time basically dead on the floor.
I hope some of those things will get addressed with extending matchmaking.
I also heard that you aren't really meant to necessarily "Loop" in that game. Which I couldn't tell based off the people I watched since it was mostly killer.
I have a theory that the people who claim DBD is a massive "bully" simulator and want to move to VHS are going to get a huge wake up call. Since right now it seems like the strategy in that game is literally to gang up on the killer.
-
@GoodBoyKaru said:

Wish I shared that sentiment, I despise that game so much right now and couldn't uninstall it quicker.
@ topic, yes. Quit. Prioritise mental health over a stupid video game you've been playing since launch and so have gotten your moneys worth out of.
Why do you despise VHS btw? 😀 I've been waiting for my key for a while, and so far I like what I see (so far).
Not that I am in the market to replace DBD or anything, but just thinking about adding it to my list of games rotation.
-
It’s the truth. You think DH is stronger than SB because you don’t ignore the DH user. You do the SB user.
-
No. The day DH gets nerfed, will be the day killers start to advocate for a SB nerf.
Because If you didn’t like Dead Hard, you are definitely not going to like Sprint Burst.
It’s funny how some people are still under the impression that “oh no you effed up, must press E!” When that survivor deliberately positioned themselves on that spot to make you think that they had nowhere to go, so you would swing and miss.

Is it really interaction if it's a ten-minute loop of open locker -> blinded -> open locker -> blinded before the game continues as if this never happens?
I mean you throw in a specific scenario that doesn't happen back to back like that.
What I mean by interaction is that A) You can choose to chase the person not in the locker. So if they want to hop inside the locker, they will have to get there in time and in the meantime they are not on generators. I.E. they are wasting their time.
-
@ThatOneDemoPlayer said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2713611#Comment_2713611
That goes back to my point where the killer can just ignore the person using Sprint Burst and focus on other Survivors as long as it doesn't lose them the game. 99'd your Sprint Burst means the Killer chased you for way too long, which is a mistake on the Killers part, not a problem with Sprint Burst
Yeah but do you ignore the person with SB on a gen about to finish, meanwhile you have a pop stack to use?
A person with DH would never commit to a gen in the middle of nothing because they can’t get away. Because essentially what is happening is they are being out positioned but this perk (SB) allows them to play unsafe.
So in theory it comes down to where the survivor is and timing (how fast you can catch up to them) as to whether a killer should commit to a SB survivor or not.
-
It’s not common because it requires the perfect set up for it.
Also, it encourages more interaction between killers and survivors.
I’ve faked the grab and went for the person with the flashlight trying to save, and to me that is a lot of pressure value because they aren’t on gens.
-
Is there a baby Dweet in that box?
-
I feel you need to specify if Console or PC, because Huntress dominates on PC.
-
DH doesn’t need a nerf simply because some can’t/have not learn to deal with it.
Bottom line, just because you don’t like something doesn’t make it broken. Too many threads asking for it to be nerfed with a video showcasing how they can’t even wait before whiffing.
What’s next nerf Lithe because too many windows?
Nerf SB because you should have gotten a hit when a survivor finished a gen in your face?
-
I don’t see how you find her sending crows across the map is frustrating. You can literally just move away from the gen (because that is where most of them aim for) additionally get in a locker and crows will auto clear.
-
I mean a lot of what you point out is common sense.
I have always stood behind the fact that the only thing SWF provides that makes a difference is reliability. Communication becomes secondary when you have that.
I remember someone telling me this isn’t a “team-based game” because you can be on a gen by yourself and do objectives by yourself. Completely missing the entire point that some of the worst matches I’ve had have been due to the lack of people being allergic to gens. (I have seen this on every grade from Ash to Red)
It not just that people play selfishly but inefficiently as well. They deserve every bit of bad reputation IMO. Because it is that bad especially when you get paired against a high MMR killer.
-

If you’ve reached your peak then maybe a break is in order.
I am not gonna disagree that to an extent there is some stress involved playing killer, but to say it’s always stress and no reward? I can’t say I share that same experience.
There are certainly elements that this game has that are outright not enjoyable. Most of the time I find that in solo queue. Because I have 0 control over my other teammates. Which is why I still love playing killer over solo queue survivor.
I know all of us have different experiences and that’s why I understand the frustration to an extent.
-
Yep I see her every so often.
Many of them wearing the exclusive cosmetic.
-
This is obviously photoshopped. There I no way you got adept on those two killers on first try! You must be way low MMR. Kappa
-
2 out of those hits would have been yours if you were just a bit patient and understood your surroundings so that you’d know there was nothing they could dash towards.
I have come to the conclusion that the problem with DH is how many people just don’t even try to bait it out or out position the survivor.
-
I mean you are allowed to have that opinion.
Doesn’t mean it’s true. I still play killer and enjoy most of my matches with the one here and there where someone dc’s, that I don’t.
-
Lack of mechanics and the general misunderstanding of the community on how balance works.
-
They should rename the video to “How to not play killer”
-
Well what contributes to the problem is also that there is a misconception of what "bullying" actually means.
It is not bringing items and using them against you. Bullying has become such a loose terms on these forums where there are literally people who believe someone is out there to "bully" them in a video game, all while there is actual bullying happening right now in the real world.
There is no denying that you can have fun and lose, but winning also feels fun because it feels like you were rewarded for your actions.
For me fun boils down to interaction between each player. So if every survivor just held W and pre-dropped pallet that is boring to me. Doesn't mean I don't understand why they do it when they are continuing to develop more and more killers which discourage potential looping mind-games etc.
The win is more something I keep in the back of my mind, because I am not thinking "I need to win" but instead "I need to do this to win". Because in the end I don't think anyone is playing the game just to lose. Winning feels good, but when you have to use the more boring interactions is when it becomes un-fun, that even winning feels "meh".
I think it's important to note that not everyone is down to "meme" or play casual. People want to win while also getting a fairly good experience.

She literally was AFK and then vaulted back through the window for no reason, that play was awful lmao
Dead Hard saved her 1000%.
She was AFK and took a hit for not being ready to play.
She faked the window and Tru3 fell for it, instead of waiting. So she had time to fast vault the window, to reposition herself.
All I am saying is either way, even if she had decided to continue to go forward downstairs and dead hard to the window. She played it well, and bought herself more time. Because had he waited he would have been able to bait DH out with no pallet on sight.
At 4:38 you can see where he actually did wait it out and she didn’t position herself correctly. Because she hoped he would swing at the window.

She could have easily had Lithe instead of DH and gotten even more distance from that vault she did. So I don’t see where the problem is when the perk is working as intended.

That could work. I guess it is a problem that the killer spends the time kicking the totem but the survivor can just easily put it back.
And honestly I don’t know if this happens to anybody else, but I always feel like I have to move my character just the right way to give me the prompt. Lol
Like something about the animation just feels clunky.
