  • The matchmaking is what made me stop playing regularly. As a killer I went from 4king rank 20 potatoes to getting flashlight eye raped by red rank Johnny420NoSc0p3z and his merry band of teabaggers without ever getting to play people from a similar level to myself. So it really felt like I went from easy mode to getting punched in the balls in the space of a couple of games.

Which I guess kinda brings me to the secondary reason I stopped...the RNG grind fest of levelling up. Pay to unlock someone you don't enjoy playing as and get them to level 40 and unlock that perk you want, and then watch in awe as you level up your main 40 times, never to come across the teachable perk you have just grinded for. Playing a group of swf red ranks without lightborn felt completely hopeless.

  • Jill is main survivor. Though leon might become it once I have right perks for him.

Main killer is Pyramid Head, followed by nemesis. In all cases it's my love for the series the characters come from, as well as the designs of them, that makes me want to play as them

  • I have recently played 2 games as killer against a 3 man SWF of various levels (all higher than me) and in both games the 1 survivor on his own was rank 1 (the excellent matchmaking system working as greatly as ever) ... tunneling in those games is what got me a 3k and a 4k. The SWFs were way too focused on helping out their buddies. I realised this pretty early, as soon as I hooked one his friends were there in seconds.

I figured that they wouldnt want one of them to die and have to sit and watch the rest, nor would the others want to quit and get an abandon penalty. So I would tunnel the first guy I hooked and his friends were trying so hard to stop me, that they completely stopped doing gens, which made my life a hell of a lot easier.

Tbh other than those examples I very rarely tunnel as a killer. Only real do it if I've been gen rushed to high heaven and want to secure a kill or two as the match is ending and the others escape. Doesn't make too much sense to tunnel too hard as a killer as you are just giving survivors more time to do gens.

Gotta say though, I do like the idea of getting bonus points for focusing on another survivor after one has been unhooked.

  • Should I feel bad about using self care? I'm a self confessed noob, especially when it comes to playing survivor. But I run it with jill alongside the perk she has that gives her half of the healing bar if she is removed from a hook....I quite like how quickly it allows me to heal up and get back to distracting the killer. Especially when a survivor has taken a protection hit for me.

Though I acknowledge using those two perks probably means there are meta perks that are being wasted that I should probably have equipped instead I guess.

  • I've been incredibly unlucky with lightborn not showing up in the bloodweb for my main 2 killers, Pyramid Head and Nemesis, so flashlights is my answer lol

  • Anybody else found playing nemesis way harder now? I can't use the tentacle over a pallet anymore as it stuns me even if I several feet from it.

The thing is, on some of those moments I had the best ping of the lobby. If the server is the referee, then it should've given me the hit on those situations at least, since what was happening on my screen was closer to what happened in the server.

But it didn't do that, regardless of my ping.

Your probably about be told that your ping in game isn't accurate, and that it must have been higher than the survivors at the exact second you swung due to lag spiking etc

Which I wouldnt have a problem believing if it wasnt benefitting the survivor every single time. I must have had 50 plus of these situations pop up as both killer and survivor, and the killer has yet to have the hit count.

  • @gatsby said:

I play at 30-40 ping and I have had exactly one hit rejected. The only really noticeable thing about the pallet change is that they brought back vacuum pallets a little bit, so Survivors can now stun you at farther ranges. It’s like the Survivor version of a dedicated hit where you get pallet stunned from Narnia.

The funniest thing that’s happened was when I got vacuumed as Trickster with my knives out mid-throw and the game kept the knives up the rest of the match as my standard M1. Trickster’s bat just disappeared.

This annoyed me so much. Usually a survivor would wait at a pallet and I'd stop just in front, more often than not baiting them into dropping the pallet early and then I'd destroy it without being stunned. Can't use this strategy anymore as I would get stunned even if I was stood a few feet in front.

  • Theres no risks to dropping pallets anymore. They have become the safe place of the game. I literally just stand there as a survivor and know that it doesn't matter if the killer starts swinging first, I'm getting away unscathed.

And as a killer it doesnt matter how well I have timed my lunge, I get stunned every time. I have the best internet available to me and its plugged straight in to my ps4, yet I'm supposed to believe that EVERY single time I have swung at a survivor who is waiting at a pallet I have had higher ping? Sorry, but that's incredibly unlikely.

I'm not gonna here and pretend I'm a super good red rank player because I'm not and I acknowledge that maybe things would have been different if I would ever have reached those ranks, but at the ranks I was at survivor already felt too easy before the pallet update, now looping around a pallet as a survivor feels like it has no risk whatsoever.

This is one of the things I loved about the F13th game. It was one sided, Jason was a beast. It was a challenge and a thrill to actually survive. Survivors should be scared of the killer but they’re so confident and they know the game and all it’s little exploits. This is one of the reasons why there are so many tunneling/camping killers right now.

My thoughts exactly. Jason felt powerful as hell. In DBD it's the survivors who feel powerful.

  • I main Jill and Leon as survivors. And Pyramid Head as a killer. In both cases just because I love them as characters.

  • @unluckycombo said:

How do you get pallet stunned 3 times while trying to kick a generator??? Are you talking about Blastmine??

Anyway, it just depends on the match. Solo Survivor has the potential to be just as awful and stressful. Some games of Survivor are awful and stressful, some on Killer are the same- and others are cake walks.

They're both chill and stressful in their own rights. I think there's a decent argument for Killer being more stressful overall, but that's kinda the nature of 1v4 games, and I think a lot of the Killer roster has a lot of tools to make it less stressful, along with getting more rewards overall. (With the biggest thing standing in your way usually either being matchmaker or map RNG.)

Wish I could remember the map it happened on. But the pallets seem to be able to hit even if you are slightly out of range now. I played the same nap twice and it only happened on that map, but theres a couple pallets a few feet from two of the gens and if it was dropped when I was at the gen it stunned me.

Reading these comments I think I need to try and relax a bit more, get myself a slowdown perk or two as well.

  • @FrostySeal said:

Personally I find it the other way, but I guess it's because I've sunk 2k hours in the game and mastered most of the Killers in the game.

Because of the way the game is built Killer will usually be more stressful than survivor since your going to be active all game whereas for Survivor you have teammates to take the fall for your mistakes.

I hope I find I feel the same eventually. I like 0laying both sides but prefer killer, but some games have been so demoralizing to play. Maybe when I get a couple meta perks it will change.

  • I think it just feels worse as killer as you are against four people instead of one. I play killer a bit more too so obviously the odds of me coming against people who are absolute beasts at the game is alot higher. As I mentioned I think it would be much easier to deal with if I was allowed to get the perks that I know I need!

And yeah if there is a new mmr system I hope it does work better. If I were getting matched with people up to 3 or 4 ranks higher than me, it would be giving me a harder challenge while not being unreasonable. But every single game I do has at least 1 red rank survivor, and I can genuinely tell who that red rank is within a couple mins of the game starting. It's so frustrating.

  • Think I may have dying light as I've got Michael levelled up fairly high. And I def have ruin. Are pop goes the weasel and corrupt intervention pretty even in terms of strength?

I have enough shards to get either clown or plague, but not both unfortunately. Also, which of those two killers is more fun to play as? As if the perks are both pretty even, fun will be my deciding factor

After getting Stranger Things, Resident Evil, and surprise pick I never knew I wanted Left 4 Dead, I'm pretty fine.

If I had to pick another license, though, then either Forbidden Siren or Dead Space.

Forbidden siren would be a great one. Next to fatal frame 3, forbidden siren 2 might be my favourite horror game.

The person being camped SHOULD get points.

Part of it is a pressure thing; The Killer has to find someone, start a chase, eat a pallet, hit them, probably eat a second pallet, hit them again (probably after baiting out Dead Hard), check to make sure no one is around to flashlight save, pick them up, then carry them to a hook.

Almost every time, 2 or 3 gens pop in that FIRST CHASE alone. The Killer has now gotten ONE survivor 1/3rd of the way to Dying. What is, at maximum, 1/12th of his goal. While Survivors are now anywhere from 1/6 to 2/6 (1/3rd) to even 3/6ths (1/2) done with their objective (5 gens & exit gates).

Or it could be 1/4 of his goal, if he gets that Survivor dead. Plus, one less Survivor means one less person doing gens. AND, since 99% of all Survivors seem to believe unhooking is their divine right; they leave gens to sit around the hook. This means 1 hooked Survivor could be two or more Survivors not doing gens.

So the Killer is under pressure from the start to slow down the game. Just hooking Survivors is a temporary solution; KILLING them is a permanent solution. So they have to kill them ASAP, and so they camp to get that Kill.

And Survivors reward camping; they stop doing gens to hang around the hook. They expect the Killer to leave because they really want him too. And when he does not; they get angry and demand the devs MAKE the Killer leave.

But the Killer needs 13-15 minutes to 12 hook everyone, chases included.

A lone Survivor, doing gens without Great skillchecks or items or perks, can do all five in 6.66 minutes. Let's say 7 minutes.

That time inequality is what pressures Killers to camp; They HAVE to create slowdown.

Yeah, this makes sense. Let's petition for a nice BP gain for the person being face camped then lol

  • I probably should have googled face camping before starting this topic. Would have given me a chance to see that changes were implemented to prevent camping but were abused.

I get that it's a legitimate tactic. Just seems like a ######### one and I don't understand why anyone would want to do it anyway. Surely it's boring as hell? If the poor bastard being camped was getting points for it, it would be a different story. But as it stands It just seems really ######### for the unlucky person who is being camped.

  • @BigChapAlien21 said:

Face camping and tunneling to secure faster kills is just as legitimate of a strategy as flashlight clicking and t-bagging is to aggravate the killer to waste time chasing you. For every "toxic" strategy killers have, survivors also have a "toxic" strategy.

I play alot more killer than survivor, and i definitely get where you are coming from with this comment. I guess face camping seems worse to me as the poor guy on the receiving end cant do anything. He literally has no option other than to dangle there.

At least with those bagging survivor pricks you can just say '######### it' and go back to gen patrolling.

  • @Power_Guy said:

I will also add; Why does every suggestion jump on the 'Take away Killer's BP' mindset with camping?

That's like saying, in PubG 'Snipers kill me before I can play. So unfair. Snipers should lose health each time they fire their gun!'. Just because you dislike a tactic does not mean it needs some over the top punishment.

Not a great example really. In pubg you could just pick up a sniper and do the same. What are you expecting me to do as a survivor? Hook the killer and face camp him?

I play more killer than survivor since returning to DBD (think I'm 13 for killer now and 16 for survivor) and I've never once been in a position where dry humping a hooked survivor is necessary, not unless the gates are powered anyway.

  • I've only recently got back in to DBD and so am only at 15 for killer and 26 for survivor, so accept that what I say reflects the skills of a lower level player (although thanks to terrible matchmaking I do play rank 5s quite often)

But I personally find it easier to earn points as survivor. Although I do have the mentality that killers should be killing 2 or 3 survivors a game most of the time...this is a horror game after all and imo it should feel like you have pulled off an upset when if more than one of you escape. Playing killer for me is much more stressful, especially as I cannot find lightborn in any bloodwebs despite the fact I unlocked via levelling up Billy days ago, and level 5 survivors love those flashlights.

I have been a survivor and played against a rank 5 killer but not noticed until the post game lobby, on the flip side I can tell level 5 survivors as soon as I come across them. And survivors using headsets is just completely broken. Completely invalidates so many perks for either side.

Granted my opinions might change when I myself get to be ranked higher. But as it currently stands I already feel like I escape too often as a survivor.

  • Yeah after returning to dbd after a break of a few years, I really am amazed at how toxic people are. And how some people are willing to make a game incredibly unfun.

The last game that I played as survivor was against a nurse who was 8 ranks higher than any of the survivors (because apparently on 25 people play this game) and she felt the need to hook and then hard face camp. Slowly nodding her head over and over again to the hooked survivor.

What type of ######### would honestly find that rewarding?

  • Just had a game on ps4 where a fellow survivor kept on trying to lead the killer over to me. Three times the nurse started chasing him and each time he would run up to the generator I was doing and do a little bag/spin combo. When the nurse completely ignored me the first time I figured she didn't notice me somehow. The next time there was no way she could have missed me but she kept on tunneling the toxic prick.

At the end of the game she hooked him, just before the gates were opened, and I very wearily walked towards them....where she was beating him as he hung there....and she just allowed me to walk straight up to the hook, give him a little revenge bagging, and then leave to walk straight out the exit lol

  • So I've been playing this game again after a long ass break...and the map balance, or lack of it, is one of the two things really annoying me atm. (The other being the fact that when I play killer I'm routinely placed against survivors that are 10 ranks ahead of me)

The maps generally seem to favour one side considerably, especially due to the lighting. I'm not sure if it's worse because of HDR, if so I will have to try to find out how to disable it for dbd. I know you can't change brightness settings in game. Some of the maps are so dark I can't maintain a chase with a survivor. And they are able to hide in a bush or corner somewhere without me ever spotting them. On the other hand some are so bright that it's easy as hell as a killer to chase survivors.

  • @Razorbeam said:

Every swf is an opportunity to learn and better yourself against the most difficult kind of match ( voice comms and coordination ). They will do everything they can to get in your head and tilt you so you start making wrong decisions or over commit to chases, they will do anything they can to gain an advantage.

You have to use those games as live practice runs in ignoring and remaining untilted by their playbook and sticking to your own. It just takes a small attitude adjustment and wising up to what their trying to achieve to make those games a lot more dealable.

Every time you have a 4 man swf moonwalk out the exit gates tea bagging in unison you just got a little bit better at what to expect and how to deal with it, they are the best practice runs to improving.

In the lobby do they have 3 flashlights ? Bring lightborn, do they have 3 tool boxes to sabo your hooks ? Bring deerstalker and start slugging and trying to make plays off them helping. Are they over alturistic ? Bait camp one of them to draw them all in to you.

There's no shame in loosing to a swf whatsoever, especially if you're new, but you have to learn to laugh and tea bag with them at the end for the sake of your own sanity.

Out of curiosity...how useful is light born? Does it completely prevent me from being blinded?

Just had a game with two level 5s in it (I'm still at 16) and they were using those annoying flashlights to perfection. I'm actually kinda surprised at the speed of which it was blinding me.

My hillbilly hasn't been ranked up at all so just wanna make sure it is definitely worth it before grinding to level him up.

Hey man, if you're done with it you're done with it.

I don't like some games many others call masterpieces, i don't care.

I just needed to vent a bit. As I said it primarily the difference in ranks in my game that's annoying me. I'm still having fun. Though the brightness/darkness of some maps is a hell of a lot more extreme than I remember it being lol that's something that is really sticking out to me at the moment.

  • @Pilot said:

Don't you have like ... an entire minute to decide wherever to play or dodge the lobby?

Wasn't the clan tag a red flag? Didn't you know what to expect? Are you aware that not all survivors are like that & only around 1-5% wear a clan tag?

As I already said, I went for a piss and so didn't notice the names. So no, It wasn't a red flag and no, I didn't know what to expect. At no point did I mention anything that would suggest that I believe all survivors to be like that....so I'm not too sure why you felt the need to type that out.

  • @ThiccBudhha said:

To be fair, you can lobby dodge blatant swf. I personally stick around because I come from Overwatch, the queue times literally stole my soul and ended my career and I was already dead and think about my family. Blah blah blah, you get the point, I have ptsd.

There was a 3 man swf with TwitchTV in their names, but you know, as I said, whatever. I was ready for the beat down and wasn't about to waste a queue as a matter of principle. Turns out they weren't even doing that well, I was concerned about nothing.

Some guy named rank 1 survivor was another time where I might have dodged if I did that, but I played it out, and he wasn't crazy either. Also he was only rank 3, misleading name. Ha ha ha...

I digress, you never know what you will get, but at the same time, squads with the same name usually take the game way too seriously and if you don't want to deal with that, you don't have to.

Yeah that was a mistake on my part. Searched for a game and then went for a piss so didn't notice the names until it was too late.

  • Tbf if they were a similar level to me I wouldn't give a flying #########. I played another game just where I was a ranked 17 killer and there was a rank 9 survivor. Either the matchmaking in this game is terrible or it has a much lower playerbase than I expected it to have.

Hatch should simply change so that it spawns when it is required, if 2 people are alive at any point in the game, hatch will not spawn, this would stop people leaving someone to die on the hook while camping the hatch.

It means they'd have to change the Key or simply remove it and give us fireworks/crackers or some other thing in its place, or better yet, using a key in a chest allows you to get a rare item (not quality, but the limited type things, like spoopies)

The only thing that pisses me off with the hatch is those annoying shits that look for it when the gates are open, this in itself has a simple fix, not escaping out the gate is part of the survivor objective, as is gens. If the survivor has to escape by other means (hatch) they shouldn't be rewarded for it, they should be punished for it, halving the points would fix this issue, they're getting 7k for holding the game up, if you open a gate and help the team you get 1250 points and you're vulnerable, you escape you get 5000 for escaping, with the hatch standoff you're effectively invulnerable and get 7000 for nothing.

    Summary
    1. Hatch will not spawn or open till only 1 remaining survivor is left, if (both or one) gates are open hatch will not open.
    2. Hatch escape awards 2500 BPs ( you're not opening it, you failed the real objective of completing Gens, saving team and escaping via gates) with this change I feel killers would be less salty, you don't open it so 2k bonus points make no sense, 5k for an emergency escape is also BS
    3. If they fixed the spawning mechanic that would help aslo, as it seems 80% or higher, it follows certain conditions

These are very good ideas and ones I'd be more than happy to see implemented
  • Maybe she was actually a Killvivor and was trying to punish you for being useless to the team?

Maybe. Whatever the reason though I'm happy it happened. Ts the first time I've experienced a glitch in this game and it was annoying as hell lol I had the prompt telling me to press rb to leave the locker but whenever I pressed it....nothing

  • Facecamping a survivor who hid in a locker for no reason as a Hag is a 2000 IQ play, you just can't comprehend it.
    Loool
  • Honestly, I see the hatch as being the hardest thing in this game to balance properly, as there are so many scenarios that can play out that will either leave you believing the hatch is fair game or thinking it's an easy way out for the last survivor....

I've been in a game as a survivor where it seemed as tho my team were more fussed about looping and teabagging the killer than doing the actual objective, and by the time my 3 'teammates' had died the remaining generators I hadn't done were so close together patrolling them was easy for the killer ... in this instance I was glad to finally find the hatch and felt it was fair enough for me to escape that way.

But, I've also had games where i do at least 2 gens pretty much solo, rescue teammates from hooks, and then when it's just me and one teammate remaining, I get hooked for he first time and being able to see their aura, can see that not only are they making no attempt to help me, but they are also making no attempt to carry on doing gens. The second the entity gets me they escape instantly through the hatch which they had obviously already found . This to me encourages bad team play and is incredibly annoying..

As a killer I've had my fair share of games where i kill 3 survivors and the 4th escapes through the hatch as they found it before me.....And I think 'fair enough mate, gg'

But....I have also had the situation unfold where the hatch had been placed in the most ridiculously obvious place....between two gens or right by a hook. And once getting to a point where there is only one survivor left and one is about to be sacrificed , and I can see the last guy just standing on the hatch that was placed so out in the open he literally put zero effort into finding it. I hate the fact that in this scenario there is nothing you can do as a killer. The last time this happened to me I ran over as quickly as I could, the guy on the hook gets sacrificed and I manage to get in a hit and down the guy who's on the hatch, only to see the annoying animation as he magically jumps back onto his feet and leaps through the hatch. In situations such as these, I can't help but feel as tho I've been cheated out of a 4 kill game

.....so yeah, a reaaaaal awkward one to balance lol but what I can say for sure is that i wish there was some way to ensure that the spawn place of the hatch was never right next to a hook or gen
  • Sounds like once I optimise my build I might be able to deal with them at least slightly better. I just don't want to it to get to a point where I have to play as the Nurse for every match to counter the looping

It is a good post, but meaningless, I'm afraid. You see, the devs care only about survivors, because they are majority. Us, 50/50 players or killer mains, are in the minority.

There are multiple problems with balance, the killers are just a "beaten kids" and the survivors are the bullies. They watch cancerous streamers like this starting with "o" and ending with "chido", and want to be like him - making shaming videos of him "outplaying" killers on the lower ranks and always with his SWF slaves to protect his ass, using exploits, etc etc. Bunch of survivors, who are just kids, follow their guru, mentor, a daddy - you name it, and try to mimic his toxic behaviour, and the devs are okay with it.

2 years of nerfing killers, not caring about bugs they suffer from, exploits that survivors can use against them, but instantly fixing survivors' bugs and their problems. 2 years of buffing survivors, now they got nerfed once, started crying, and they will be buffed again in the next patch.

Believe me, my friend, better abandon this game, because it will not be better.

Well that is disappointing to hear about the way balancing has been handled

Playing against someone who can loop better then Jordan can hoop, all while blinding you and doing that little jittery thing with their movements whenever you get in swinging distance (which is among the most unnatural forms of running I've ever seen) is ridiculous.... Don't get me wrong, il kill a friend or two of his and finish the game with enough points, but even then I have to endure watching the guy teabag his way across the exit line....what the hell is the purpose of that?
