I've watched it happen quite often in the last 1,300 hours of played in this game.
yes I am VERY familiar with servers and how they work. I hosted Valve content on an IBM Blade center with Infiniband systems, and a load balanced HA cluster that took care of DOS mitigation from dedicated appliances. That system alone cost around 2k per month if it was running at "full burn".
Part of costs was mitigating CHEATERS and logging data on 14 seperate SCSI ultra 320 drives spanned in a RAID container on those old Dell PERC 3 controllers. I'd have to pull logs and change drives as needed. You know those drives that make the high pitch, "shrill" sound because they are spinnning at 10,000 and 15,000 RPM. yes those. I'd have to route my logs over to a PLASMON UDO/MO library and anything else through EMC if it was still in high-demand data usage.
Anything and everything was always something being perfected to deliver a better experience for players. But like all of us. When the housing crash happened and the economy tanked. We headed off for the better jobs that were still going.
-
I'd be really careful with the "in 3 days see you thing" that can be considered a threat of violence in the States... Anyway..
Yeah I gotta side with community members here. that this is happening at a rapid rate. I see it more and more where I could activate a stopwatch and time it out within the first 20 seconds of the game starting the match and somehow the killer's heartbeat is heard within the 5 meter radius nearly right away, looking forward and seeing it happen.
The one match I played. I spawned, nearly infront of a killer. thankfully that person was AFK the whole match due to spilling something on their keyboard, (sad for them) but either way it needs to be addressed. Since the penalties are strict like this.
I've also noticed that people still DC and that the que times are even longer. I'd leave it at 3 minutes and look into Debugging before we become serious about penalties like this.
Respectfully this is something that should have been addressed back in March of last year. I dont know if this system is doing some sort of rank Handicap to account for the time it takes the system to do something. But yes, players are rage quitting like this person did due to the fact that
Killers are spawning, literally. Right infront of one another.
Respectfully,
-InnCognito.
-
Thank you.
-
Why would you celebrate this? This game has frequent crashes, and as the day progressed yesterday. I noticed my Q times kept getting longer. Generally if players dropped out. I learned to WORK THROUGH IT. Heck, I didn't really care too much either. If they left it didn't matter either way. They now pull on the hook after first-down.
At least if they dropped out PRIOR to being hooked (which most did) we didn't have BBQ proc, lolz.
-
I'd like to see "fire up" be increased to a better state. It use to be a really good perk. I miss the OLD tinkerer as well.
-
Yeah, DC penalties are bringing out new behavior that is worse.
-
I really dont think you need to talk like that here. If you dont like people's opinions on this. You are welcome to write a counter-forum here.
-
I dont ever get a chance to record anything since my processor is only a 4-core. SO I am stuck with screen captures. If I could post their STEAM ID and gamertag in chat. I certainly would. But that is against their TOA.
-
I want to show EVERYONE here. including @ all DEVELOPERS , @Peanits ...
of WHY this sort of DC banning stuff should NOT be implemented. At least until ALL issues ARE appropriately addressed. Yes, this was sent OVER to the customer service reps AT BEHAVIOR. Back when this occurred.
Occurrence: January 28th. 5:56pm Year: 2020.
This person BLOCKED the player into a corner and they would NOT let the other person leave. Check the server logs. The player in the blue shirt had crows above their heads.
What made this type of behavior WORSE IS. The killer wouldn't even bother downing them. This is the storm to come. This is what we call "penalty baiting or penalty entrapment ".
-
I guess for me, as a player. What makes either side Satisfying is the following reasons:
Survivor: HORROR. The fear of someone that could find and chop a player up into a million pieces. But at the same time. The availability to feel like I have some control. If I am hiding. I should be in a minimal state of being discovered. If I go out and take a risk such as repairing a generator or completing an objective. It should be suspense at all times.
Killer: I feel I should be in control of the match more. I should have rapid fire movement and rely on my skills as a player to locate survivors without assistance. But at the same time be able to BETTER PUNISH and penalize players for their risky and/or careless behavior. Than the current state of the game.
-------
Discussions:
- All aura and location revealing perks visited.
- A system in place that gives self-reliance back to the player, but at the same time works against us.
- A way to raise suspense in the game. So it IS scary. Lighting, fog, intense-dramatic trauma added in.
- The game FEELING fair. So we talk on hitboxes and hit recognition.
- A way for killers to actually GAIN control of the match and not just by perks.
More.
A talk about the true meaning of the Hatch to all. The hatch feels like a "sportsmanship" card. Where perhaps closing it doesn't trigger the End-game collapse. But instead the killer activating one of the exit gates and thus TRIGGERING the EXPOSURE status. So both sides feel as though they are still in that State of Suspense. Which IS important to a Horror Genre of Movies and Video games.
New mechanics. ONLY ideas?
Sacrificial rage.
As the survivor hangs longer. The killer powers up with the wrath of the entity. If the killer stays within the radius of their sacrifice. Their power dwindles and the killer doesn't become as oppressive on the field.
Killers that stay longer in a single chase. They build a meter and as they power up. If they max out. Perhaps a FREE mori?

I just got out of my meetings and have been asked that a grand total of one time since then, and have also answered that person. Rank update errors should not count since they occur after the match. If they are counting, please let us know (and send us a clip if you can). We have a kill switch ready just in case something like that happens.
GOOD HEARING FROM U!
OUCH THE MEETINGS!! RIP. yeah I know those have to be BRUTAL. The comment section on the stream 2 weeks ago on youtube was pretty harsh. im sure that doesn't make for a good thing to come back to either.
--------
I'd be fine if we EXPLORED some fixes here that pushed a person away from wanting to leave a match., such as a fix for slugged survivors. Right now it IS a strategy for killers having to slug one survivor at some point or another because gens go VERY fast in these rapid-fire high rank games. We don't have much to slow the game down for EITHER side. I know that control of survivors IS important and sympathize with players that have to do it (in the position of operating the killer).
I then have to look at the fact that survivors have gone from "The IRL adrenaline dump" which comes down as frustration as to why they cannot get back up and fight. That is what makes Hollywood movies FUN and exciting. We go and build back up, to get back into the fight. ..Here, we cannot get that. If we only used 1 2 or 3 metas of perk-builds. it stagnates what can be done in the game too.
Part 2. What sends players into a fit of rage to DC. Each match I have played has been hitbox frustration. pallets and windows. Hatch closures and people thinking the killer or survivors are cheating so they leave.
Conclusion:
If we can do some fixes for camping, slugging and hitboxes. Id say a 5 minute penalty that doesn't stack and see where THAT goes.
Im bumping this photo upwards. since people need to see whats going on in this game. Players body blocking and trapping others. I dont think we should of had DC penalty just yet.

The perk itself is one of those that if someone mentions it. Many PLAYERS take it in a negative manner and feel it is a very personal attack on them.
I play without it and learned quickly that I just don't use it. I play at 6-8 ranks as a killer. The majority of the time I get DE PIP SQUADS and really GOOD SWF groups. VERY impressive, well-coordinated teams that rarely make mistakes.
To me, I find the perk USELESS. Because the majority of interactions for me are MIND GAMES through Pallet Forts, Jungle Gyms, protecting certain groups of generators on the maps and the teams are ALWAYS going to be playing within my terror radius. So it becomes a place holder and doesn't negate what points could be earned with better perks, and playing through good chases.
-------
From a survivor aspect. I DESPISE it. I love the fact that I enjoy the stealth character plays in the game. Where the initial aspect of HIDING in grass, behind barriers and HUGGING boundaries is good plays. From a survivor standpoint I am bad at chases, and looping killers. While others can do it.
So BBQ takes the skill range and splits it down the middle. The killers that USE it. will NEVER IMPROVE on playing against teams that know how to Juke the killer, and Survivors that cannot find or locate a locker are purposefully phased OUT against killers that are using it.
The discussion: Initially the perk is to discourage camping, which it does. BUT it hasn't positively impacted the game like it should. I could see it being MORE reasonable to be a HEX than a constant ability. OR if it remains a Constant ability. its tokens being used De-powers the ability as it is used up. This suggestion makes sense because CALM spirit and SPIES from the SHADOWS go hand n' hand. While Distortion and BBQ don't align.
-
Not a clue anymore. Since they put rift in. I find it infuriating that people are all farming points and objectives for rifts. While NOT doing what they need to. Then if someone refuses to participate they either troll or throw.
It doesn't help when the notification is intrusive. Which seemingly encourages this type of behavior from players.
-
Game data is NOT encrypted so 3rd party mods are easily used by players that plan to ruin the gameplay experience for others.
Everything from modifying their position on the map, to cheats which reveal locations of level objects, to faking hits or dodges. It is the typical "Norm" for online games and we ALL wish it could be prevented. But no amount of anti-cheat software really helps anything. Sadly.
-
Banned perks not a good idea. People complain about:
Killer:
- BBQ and chili
- Nurses calling
- NOED
Survivor:
- Iron Will
- Balanced Landing
- Self Care
- Adrenaline.
-
Lobby dodging and the fact that everyone would argue at the start of the match about what perks to be running.
-
I miss the old DS. But the skill check zones were bad.
-
The objective of the killer isn't to always protect the hooked survivor. It is about chasing down other players objectively. The more a killer camps. the less likely they will win matches and rank up.
Eventually a person will reach the groups of players that realize their friend is on the hook and will NOT rescue them. They will power through all of the generators and come with with Borrowed time, Mettle of Man and BODY block that survivor on their way out of the gate. Thus, not giving you a single downed survivor.
If a person has to patrol a hook. They are doing something wrong.
-
I like the idea. It takes away from the gen Rush. As killer. The gen rush does get to be a pain to deal with. and the only good play. is to slug the first survivor you always strike, or the game shifts too much in favor of survivor.
Running BBQ. - I really despise that perk. Because it becomes very underpowered to very OP. Too much of a dynamic shift for what it could/should be doing.
- If the killer can never stand to hook even one survivor. The perk is useless.
- If the survivors are all within the terror radius of the killer. IT is useless.
- When the end-game plays happen. it is too OP. and gives the killer too much information.
-
I had questions for the stream. Please chose 1. Thank you! and yes, You can leave my name off of it. If you please. ;)
1 ) When are we going to address the fact that Distortion, BBQ and Nurses need a balance. Where (EITHER OR) :
- Distortion no longer has tokens.or...
- BBQ, Nurses now have usage tokens
2 ) addressing changes to ECG hatch. The match maker is picking from a much larger pool of players, which doesn't mean we always have the ideal match. So what can we do, to make the game "feel" better since exit gates have NOT been addressed.
- I nearly, always give the last survivor the exit gate out of sportsmanship.
- Hatch stand-offs are still there. it is now between 2 survivors left and a killer that has to wonder around trying to find 2 survivors hiding.
-
This game will NEED to follow a ranked system that changes gameplay as a person ranks up. So it begins to feel balanced. AN average ranking system will need to adjust the following.
- NUMBER of generators on map.
- Number of hooks on the map
I know there will be the discussion of the following:
- If the players are throwing games to lower the difficulty of the match.
- SWF vs PUG, vs De PIp Squads. - What match quality changes could there be?
- People creating "Smurff" accounts to avoid a certain rank.
Ultimately the system may just be fine where it really only can be. Since people circumvent ranking systems all the time. It might just come down to not having a rank, and using a system that tips the scale of the match all together. So if it feels like it is moving too fast or too slow. It can compensate for that. Which would be a HEADACHE for programmers.
-
I am talking about the add-on. The map. These suddenly have become worse. It use to track all generators without addons. Now it barely tracks anything.
-
The discussion of climbing the hook post was to allow survivors to get out of the dying state. But at the same time allow killers to find survivors easier. When a survivor is slugged. They can look for the hatch. Risk/reward idea.
-
Good feedback. please keep on posting :)
-
I've done hatch stand-offs from both sides. Up to the 45min-1 hour mark. It wasn't a big deal.
I found ECG to be MORE annoying compared to Standoffs. Had they simply REMOVED the ability of the killer from grabbing a survivor going down the hatch. It would have been FIXED. None of this total revamping of the game.
Now we have a problem where 2 survivors can HOLD the game HOSTAGE. Yes, 2 survivors not fixing generators and NOT wanting to do anything but HIDE.
-
Keys never needed a rework. Because if we cannot see killer mori's until loading screen.
-
I'd second the motion of Post-game Chat removed.
-
It comes down to ALOT. What do you consider "high rank" 12, 5, 1?
Generally I play against 6s and 8s. What happens in high ranks is about anything to get wins. Everything from slugging certain players, at certain times. To properly controlling a set of generators so survivors are picked-off as they play,. Most of the perks seam to only be slight "background noise" to the good survivors and they play through EVERYTHING.
Games get really intense. Infact hooking a survivor could mean time wasted if a person does NOT properly plan when they should be leaving a slugged player and pressuring generator teams.
------
They could play through old RUIN very well. Tap gens and hit skill checks like pros. As well as get that totem found and deleted on the map within 15-20 seconds.
BBQ made zero sense to ever use, since they all played and tried looping me all the time. Even forming up flashlight-squads and chains to block killers to the hook. So a person could NEVER hook a survivor.
Let us not forget the builds that prevent a killer from camping all together. Mettle of Man, Borrowed time, balanced landing and adrenaline.
-
The perk needs a MAJOR rework. We are talking like SUPER-ultra major FIX..
- High Rank survivors and De Pip Squads are NOT effected by it.
- Mid-low tier survivors can barely play through it.
Discussions and thoughts:
- BBQ and Chili becoming a HEX? (simple fix)
- Distortion being buffed so it no longer has tokens? (infinite use like calm spirit).
- BBQ and Chili now with tokens that after a SET number of uses? ( It no longer is active) (Fair to counter with distortion's limitations
-
It would be a very addition to the game. I'd like to see it.
-
This is from MY spectating POV when players abandon matches. This is observations only.
- Being the first one struck down by the killer within the first 30 seconds of the game.
- Being struck down in a pallet.
- Being struck down through a window.
- Being camped, pulled off the hook and struck down again.
- Being the last one standing and then after the hatch closes. They abandon.
- Being slugged for an extended period of time.
- After a team mate being hung, the killer beelines it to their location (BBQ).
-
In this Patch:
The hits in this game are widely, seemingly. unfair. I vault a window at any given time and despite clearing the window, with the camera pointing backwards and visually see that I cleared the window, plus the length of the weapon and still see what appears to be a clear miss. Is instead recognized as a "hit".
Same is occurring on pallets. I clear the pallet and drop it. Despite dropping the pallet, the killer has still struck my character.
- Average latency to server: 63ms
- Connection type: Wired Cat 6e
- GPU: RTX 2060 on Desktop.
- 16GB of RAM
-
Yeah, match fixes would be nice. But there isn't an easy balance to this problem. Faster Que times means match quality is going to be lower. Bottom line is. A person cannot have their cake and eat it too ;).
Good team mates = longer Que time.
So it comes down to mechanics solutions where the game would have to be revised to compensate for bad teams.
- Removing ECG. -Because teams with players that aren't quite experienced, means the odds of having to search for a hatch, go up.
- Changing BBQ and Chili to a Hex. - Team mates being hooked constantly, means that this perk is going to constantly be tripped.
- Killers needing MORE generators on the map because of SWF v PUGS.
๐
-
LOL I have that thought too, that the bloodweb is rigged and reads our minds. ;)
-
Reminder: We really aren't supposed to talk about leaves at this point is what the rules are.
I've made it a point that "community" is what makes this the game. Back in the day of the first 2 years of the game. Players generally respected one another fairly well. Killers vs survivors. If players had game crashes, we would GENERALLY allow one or all of the survivors to complete objectives and leave the match, infact many times we would give the last survivor the hatch out of respect.
Yes, Out of respect. There generally was GOOD sportsmanship, so as long as the killers did NOT camp, and survivors weren't too mean with their flashlights. The closing of the hatch has taken that away. Because it does not feel "sportsman" like.
Sure, standoffs were not fun. Because the stand-off could last anywhere from 45 minutes, to even sometimes 4-6 HOURS. Because either side was not happy with one another. But those were seldom and rare. Had they REMOVED survivor grabbing and left the hatch alone. Things would be different.
It is what it is. and the backlash on penalties came about with survivors tugging on the hooks right away.
-
I'd like to see them go about it with the whole SRCDS rules. Not every day can we all be cheerful happy gamers and honestly there is some stuff out there that both parties do to upset one another.
Some revisions should be up for discussion such as lobby chat REMOVAL and Mute Bans. As well as False reports monitoring.
With Cheating infractions being a permaban.
-------------
Mine was really cool that I had on our GAMING Server for Steam.
I could pull up a list of reports and look at players with HIGH numbers of infractions and looked at the infractions. (comments). If they were players being bullied and they were RESPONDING to what others said. I'd generally just leave it alone.
If it was someone starting arguments, I'd issue a message ID from console. For the player ID that logged in and it said they were under a Mute action. It had it say how to access the ID on our Website database. There, they could poke in the infraction ID and look AT their infractions and the messages they typed. I'd put in a footnote as to why we chose the action and proof of what they said.
I'd at most put a mute action from 4-6 hours, and progress it up to a 9 month at most. By then players generally cleaned up their act. It kept ad revenue rolling in and worked well.
-
I kind of floated the idea around Ranks vs number of generators. With SWF being a variable. It might not be the best idea. But it is better than nothing.
-
It was tested and NOT well received by quite a few players. I'd say that the penalty is not going to fix anything. Whatever they come up with next at BHVR. needs to be something that is based upon WHY players quit matches in the first place.
They need to take a survey on the player base.
In 2018 this game did not have leavers to this volume.
-
I get matches that are ultra-frustrating now. Sometimes I am seeing a killer right behind me and other times they are 50' back and somehow manage to hit me.
I always maintain a 55-63ms latency to the servers.
-
I play the full stealth build on claudette. Brown pants, brown shirt, no hats.
- Spine Chill
- Urban Evasion
- Self Care
- Iron will.
When they FINALLY fix Distortion, I will use that instead. in one of my perk slots.
It is amazing to watch the killers walk right over me, while standing still. First time as a player you buy her brown pants in the store, dawn them and stand absolutely still. You wonder "HOW DID THEY NOT SEE ME". It is very thrilling and scary at the same time.
-
That looks like a Speed Hacker imo.
btw, lol bbq? When you face SWF that perk becomes only a place holder. If I was running Oni. I'd do Enduring, Thana, "clown phobia", and maybe sloppy butcher. ;-)
-
I always TEABAG at the exit gates and do "The butt dance" to provoke the killer. Even on pallets being put down.
Another toxic move is to put the pallet down, crouch and do a "nod" of yes to killers. its FUNNY.
-
I use to NOT do "this" nearly as much. The game use to NEVER be this frustrating until June 2019 and feeling like it was unfair either way. It kind of sinks in that when one feels powerless in a game. That more people become frustrated.
-
Its too early to tell. I'd say the lack of survivors for matches indicates there is somewhat of a problem. When Killer Q times are LONG.
-
The issue is. 99'ing doors came about from a response to ECG. If people just open the door. There is NOT enough time to make calculated rescues. The proper strategy is to have someone that is healthy OPEN the door's switch and stand BEHIND everyone, to take hits while they run OUT.
-
Its kind of a bad stalemate tbh. That just comes with a reason why SOME game mechanics need a bit of work on this game ;-)
Id lose BBQ. When you start facing SWF. That perk becomes a bad placeholder perk. I'd put something more powerhouse such as Monsterous shrine if you plan to play reclusive killer style. Makes for some REALLY good plays! I've ranked clear up on a season playing as a Reclusive trapper. it was "trappers basement build". and made for some interesting matches. But the point generation and pips aren't so great.
What makes it great is. The aultruism that players naturally have, are their own trap and demise.
-
I've learned to be self reliant in this game. To bring a medkit and selfcare. Not always are teams going to be good.
-
I dont camp the hook at all and try to avoid tunneling. Infact I run powerhouse perks such as Enduring, Clown-Phobia, Spirit furry or bamboozYAH and thana. It is a good set of perks for chases and pallet loops. really a fun thing to do!
-
I use to play this game 8 hours a day. I bought a few DLCs here and there. 2019 was a VERY frustrating year for this game. Im hoping that the next update has some REVERTS in it.
-
Id say all of this "BAN THIS" or "BAN THAT" gets out of hand. with online Games. At some point a company has to sit back and say "this may be hurting my income"
FAIR WARNING to COMPANIES - RUMOR HAS IT. the U.S. Senate and House are going to start readings and hearings here in the next year on Video game Lootboxes AND "BANS". As the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is going to define "DEPRIVING ONE of paid-for services. -. I know people, because, I have to answer to the authorities on Agriculture trade.
On topic:
I FIRST hand, owned and moderated a Team Fortress 2 community server and a Left 4 Dead 1&2 servers. -Hardware wise I owned an IBM Blade server, 4x 2000w power supplies, 14 blades. cost some MONEY to run (alot of money)
(respectfully I will not ADVERTISE the name HERE- do not ask.)
if anyone has ever heard of Source Dedicated Servers or known as "SRCDS". There are GUIDELINES that had been came up with YEARS ago and this "Fair" rulings are what propelled server ideas to ALL TIME success until the advent of FREE TO PLAY. The rules went like this on our server:
1 Warning with a REFERRAL to COMMUNITY rules.
Mic Spam and MIC abuse - Mic was MUTED for VOTE MUTE system. Along with the same system that stacked MUTE BANS
Abusive chat 1st offense.
A system warning and a then each time it got out of hand with multiple reports. we MUTED the player. With stacking, and did it up to 180 days before the system reset.
I did NOT total ban for verbal abuse (except on rare occasions). That is BECAUSE I wanted the advertisement REVENUE. So if they did NOT come onto my server. it meant I was LOSING money. Even if a player was "trouble" or unhappy about something. They still were there PLAYING my game, and NEVER think one second, that we can just let a bit of revenue slip by. Because there CAN be rainy days.
For Type-chat abuse. I had the same rules, and infact so I didn't have to work extra hard at reading through everything. I spent about 1, maybe 2 weeks ENTERING in about every KNOWN abusive phrase, text, and used a dictionary script to take care of ALL of it for me. - NO I do NOT sell this script to anyone.
The exception was THREATS. - Those were PERMA BANS.
For cheaters. YES, we BANNED them.
Aimbots, WALL hackers, and about everything I could imagine that I could find on my LOGS on MY server that players did to CHEAT. I saw it ALL, and even some of the craziest cheats still in play, today that go unrecognized unless a person goes back and watches the replays.
(again, I wont say how they were used)
Anyway. I wish more people would go by these rules, since they are FAIR and are more obvious to be LAWFUL vs how I see people run their servers now. Someone does not like something SAID. They immediately ban. That is LOST money not coming in.
The only time I say something that is NOT polite. is to those whom cheat. as it is essentially theft from both the COMPANY and the player.
