  • I gotta say its a David. We lobby dodge Davids if they are below 25.

No Mither is the most USELESS perk in the game and a MAJOR meme. The Match with a lvl 5 David is essentially just as good as a DC'r if not BETTER. Since the David will PROC BBQ and Chili Fast. Get us all Down'd and GG.

  • Spirit is OUT of hand at this point. It makes for difficult plays at Pallets. Including the stealth issues. Freddy V 1.0 was at LEAST Fair. Because even though he was invisible. The survivor could react still.

  • I look at all survivors as equals. Nobody should be going after Claudette for reasons that are not allowed to be discussed here. I mean I personally play as her. ALL the time and report players for using bad Slang towards Claudette. Which I see PLENTY of that in Post-game chat.

  • At this point. Session ID would be more warranted for cheating. It is VERY rampant in this game. I've looked at track records on the DW of this anticheat they use and it is NOT very effective.

  • It really depends. For "last man standing" 2 survivors left.

If I am the one that isn't on the hook. I will try and rescue them. That is, if they made Safe unhooks, didn't run the killer to me, and helped out. Even IF I decide NOT to rescue them. They can struggle the whole time. Im packing self care, and Iron will. So I can play against a killer looking to 4k.

If the other team mate is a total potato while I am on the hook. I Will hold on.

  • The game should NOT award bloodpoints for using this perk. Essentially they are incentivizing bad behavior. Here is the thing, and why as a Killer. I do NOT run BBQ

When BBQ is used in lower ranks. it is OP. Most survivors at that rank Want to AVOID the killer at all cost. They follow the outter walls and stay hidden.

Higher ranks and SWF are always heckling the killer. Which makes the perk useless. Doesn't matter. A person barely can get time to hook one survivor, as they will form a train infront of you. To the hook. Since players won't practice the killer correctly. THey wonder why SWF is very powerful against them.

  • Back in the good ol days. The Killers often could go and just let the last remaining survivor FARM POINTS. Pull pallets down and do 2 generators until the hatch would spawn and generally the killer would LET the survivor escape.

New Rules : Any type of point farming. Will be a PERMA BAN.

Players want DC bans. - Okay great. So this game IS the "Unreal engine" its not perfect and from a performance stand-point. It is still better than the Overwatch Engine. BUT... but.. U-R engine isn't always reliable and never is. it is the "Adobe flash player" of the programming world. To the best of my understanding. It is an AMAZING license agreement. Because it ALLOWS for Game companies to emerge from the earth and forge new game ideas. But it HAS issues none the less and is NOT perfect.

  • No, it really isn't If the game has the mechanic built into it. Than it should be removed. If players want to risk their 0.0001% chance of pulling on the hook to get off the hook. Let em. Why not have the development team increase the odds to 40, 60 or even 100% chance (WITHOUT PERKS) to do it?

    Discuss...

  • Yes they are being fully banned. But they really do just need to take the approach of Mute Bans or removing the chat lobby.

Just because a person says something. Doesn't mean that they should be competely removed from the legal right to play the game that THEY paid for. Despite someone not liking what someone said. Even if it was toxic, abrasive or hateful.

  • THey were point farming. The best way I see survivors counter this is. By Disconnecting right away. So their team mate pays for their sins.

  • The way I learned when I first picked up the game was by Rage in Chat by players warning me about camping.

  • Instead of punishing DC'ers how about they just go back to the revisions of the game where players didn't want to DC.

    1. Nerf BBQ
    2. Remove Hatch closing.
    3. Extend pallet loops
    4. Stop spawning the killer right on top of a Survivor
    5. Come up with some sort of mechanic that gets rid of Slugging.
    6. If a player get mori'd Give them something awesome for it.
    7. Revert Exhaustion status perks and Decisive.
  • The current counter to ANY Mori. is players disconnecting in the loading screen when they see a black Offering that doesn't turn over.

Even if the offering did not appear. Players will start deciding to DC just because the killer didn't pledge a point. Bottom line is. Mori= Rage Quit.

  • I think that some adjustments could be made. In order to stave OFF the Rage.

The hex has two totems that binds to it. Which if 1 is found. It De-powers the hex by 50%.

  • Claudette for survivor. Plague for Killer. and maybe Doctor.

  • I do agree that some adjustments need to be made to FOV for the survivor. It seams a bit closer after the update. I mean I understand the reasoning behind the rules of 3rd person vs 1st person. Which changes the dynamics of the game. but yes.

IT NEEDS TO BE MOVED SLIGHTLY BACK!

  • LOL im a nub and enjoy spinechill. It is way better than Premonition. It means I can focus less on trying to watch for a killer with ZERO terror radius.

    My build

Claudette - Brown Shirt and Brown pants.

    • Spine Chill
    • Self Care
    • Iron Will
    • Urban Evasion (this really should just be how the game was settup for crouching)

I Despise BBQ and want to leave the chases to the players that KNOW how to loop the killer. I'd use Distortion. But the perk is Garbo.

  • Agreed. DC is a Symptom, NOT the core problem. Here is from my standpoint of view. Talking with the person(s) that DC. I dont rage at them. I conduct a civil discussion.

Common-core reason: "THis game is not balanced, and we felt the need to DC. Out of RAGE. "

End game collapse is the #1 reason for disconnections. When I tested this back on the PTR. Revision 1. was AMAZING. It lit the WHOLE ground up and the killers could NOT see the tracks of the survivor. The exit gates were PROPERLY SPACED apart.

I submitted the suggestion that lights on the gates would NOT light up and the buzzers stopped working. With ECG being a total of 10 minutes lasting. 2 minutes is TOO SHORT. 5 minutes still isn't enough for good plays.

Reason 2. Was bad survivor plays. survivors that hook-point farm causing the issues. Bad team mates. doing bad things to troll their survivor. DC> so it ends. and punishes them for farming in the first place.

Reason 3. Too many locator perks. Remember, the killer wields WEAPONS and the Survivor does NOT. THey have pallet loops jungle gyms and "Dwight lockers". nobody likes being a dwight and hiding in a locker to counter a Radar perk.

  • Im not going to upvote this thread for the fact that The DC epidemic came about due to End Game Collapse (ECG). Since ECG has come into Fruition. Players are flat-out frustrated. Its common for gates spawning too close together. Bad survivor teams being made. and the hatch was the last bastion of Freedom to this game's design.

I mean sure, nobody likes a hatch camper. Because they wont do generators. But because ECG is here. Survivors just DC and skip the gates. Its a defeat either way.

Until they revert to 1.0 ECG or use ofa giant tower of LIGHT that pours out of the hatch. I highly doubt players are going to care how long their DC punishment is. Even then. if they are REQUIRED to play the game. They will simply THROW the game. So they can get rid of their point punishment quickly.

..."Solve the issue, not the player."

  • There really is becoming alot more issues during the adjustments.

I will just call these "illegal hits" for the sake of reference.

    1. Windows now have an issue of illegal hits. The killer just SMACKED me, despite being 8' away from the window on my screen. IM playing on 100m down /25 up. WIRED and im on a very nice desktop pc. It shouldn't be an issue for me.
    2. Pallet strikes. So this game has a reverse pallet vacuum now AND the killer can hit players THROUGH pallets. Let alone we see pallets that are NOT dropping.
  • White ward DOES need to protect items and so does keyring. It is THERE for the trial.

Heres a pretty good example from a match I just had. The Huntress had a pretty rough match... A chat like this one isnt gonna make them feel any better about it.

Im going to guess that this Match got OUT of control because of Player frustration. The BBQ usually enrages people since I can see WHY someone being found after a Hook. Wouldn't be too happy. I kinda Wish there was perhaps NO chat lobby anymore.

I mean that pretty much IS what happens in competitive chat lobbies. Players don't care about BANS. They will buy a new copy of the game and continue on being toxic.

    -Advice for BHVR. -

I owned SRCDS servers on an IBM blade system 2007-2014 and OMG, it was ALWAYS like that. Cheese'd off gamers (not saying server name due to licensing) But I can say that the PROPER method of mitigating toxicity was to MUTE BAN the player vs account ban, so they STILL kept the same copy of the GAME . and just let them play the game. and it KEPT them from talking on my servers. Most players weren't going to fork out money just to drop in again and trash-talk. But if they were account banned. THey were RIGHT back at it.

They still would come to my server. View my ads. generate revenue and of course if they wanted to STILL play on the server (WHICH THEY DID) I made MONEY. Id rather have a FULL server of Muted players, making me ad revenue.

Now if they were cheating on the other hand.. Yeah.. Total ban. 30-60 days. VS permaban. I learned in Psychology the human mind on Risk V reward and how bad behavior works. If I do JUST enough to mitigate the problem. It dials back the issue. Vs if I did total bans. Someone would be more enticed to come BACK and cause MORE issues.

  • The marker IS really a nice item in the game. If there are times where a person GEN LOCKS and maybe the other team member cannot coordinate. It helps them.

So Far the most useful is the Hatch location. If I run a map WITH the add-on and come across the hatch. I will always mark it. It makes for some really good plays. But the issue is. The rarity of maps and the bead. make it something else to discuss....

  • I hope it is out soon and we get more time than we did last year on it. I mean they really ARE fun events. I think events being Quarterly in ANY game. makes them really a good idea. It keeps people from becoming bored too fast.

  • My bets:

    1. HEX RUIN.
    2. Im all ears.
    3. Surge.

And the ever-favorite (not) Toxic as all can be:

4 ) "BBQ and Chili" aka Radar.

  • I cannot STOMACH obsession mechanics. I never run perks that have them. yet 90% of the time. I am the obsession in a match. It promotes tunneling and tbh the killer doesn't have a reason NOT to tunnel.

Since this IS the case. I believe that if the survivor does NOT have a perk that has the Entity obsession clause, than the survivor should NOT be one. Even IF the killer IS running perks that ARE obsession. It should be a high risk gamble for both sides.

The statistics you show there are incorrect and have been addressed. We issued a correction on them right below that image in that post. The actual survival rate was around 40% at rank 1.

Getting back to the original topic: Very rarely will we actually tell someone to get better. We understand that there's a lot of subjectivity when it comes to balance. Sometime's we'll play devil's advocate to spark a discussion or share our own experiences, but that's about the extent of it. The closest we'll get to telling someone to get better is offering counterplay when they bring up an issue.

Is balance 100% perfect in every way? No, of course not. We keep updating things for a reason. But balance isn't something you can use to excuse every loss, there are also things that you can improve on yourself. I'll even say it about myself, I play poorly sometimes and I lose, but that's usually because I need to git gud, not because it's unfair.

Agreed. I remember you, running across us during normal gameplay and stomping us into the ground as Meyers. I mean balance is subjective. What makes balance work and what doesn't.

Perks are a wild card for the game. Basically a 4-stack of cards Depending upon the cards that will be delt. Do we talk about essentially locking in perk choices before a match can be FOUND. Or do we agree that players really deserve the freedom of choice. I mean I am AWFUL at this game and complain a ton about BBQ being CHEATING.

From an Ethical standpoint BBQ it is cheating. I cannot see the player, while they see me. I chose NOT to bring perks to see the killer. Because the ones that reveal his/her location also reveal me to the killer. But at the same time, The killer can bring a LARGE variety of perks.

Perks such as "I see you when you heal". or "I 1-shot you when generators are done". I mean I can imagine that some perks are more for a Tier 1 killer and others are not. SO the whole mix-tank really is up to the survivors at this point.

To be honest. I think in order to bring MORE "balance" to the game. We really just need to flat-out have access to all perks. I mean yes, the income for the game would be NICE. Buy a character. pay to get 3 new abilities or wait 6 months for those to appear in the shrine. But in essence I feel that distortion wasn't very viable for long enough to warrant running it,. and lets be honest. Lockers for BBQ. I feel like a DWIGHT. (no offense).

Which comes down to the DC Epidemic. Players are DC'ing at an alarming rate and that has to deal with COUNTERPLAY. I think Balance is subjective, but counterplay could use some work :-). A fine example is Spies from the Shadow and Calm Spirit. Two of the most WONDERFUL ideas for this game. That IS balance.

  • Disconnecting is luck for the community. If they roll out penalities. Yeah, most people are going to vote with their feet and LEAVE. The game is broken. Both survivors and killers disconnect all of the time. Until ECG rolled out. It wasn't nearly this bad. Now that ECG is out. Players feel that there is no reason to even try now.

  • I believe in a fair and peaceful system which helps bring compromise to the community.

Out of all the time I've spent playing this game over the course of a couple of years. DC epidemic didn't start until End Game Collapse. Think of it this way. Players are going to DC or "End it all" on the hook. So that brings back to the question of "why are people leaving in the first place.

IMO I think people tollerated issues, but after ECG. That just broke the game right there and players state "They've had enough".

I find leavers happen around these reasons: (remember this is MY discovery).

I ) Playing as Survivor: The survivor is SPAWNED almost right next to the killer. Next thing I see is the "unplugged icon". Which means they left the match. How can THEY (the owners) prevent that from happening?)

-I'd assume address this issue of either offering immunity for the first few seconds of the game or simply NOT spawning the KILLER right next to the survivors!

II) Next thing I notice. Someone is the obsession when the match starts. Right away there they go. DISCONNECTED. I asked the guy afterwards why they left and they outright said "I really didn't want to be tunneled". Fair enough. I didn't rage at him.

-Maybe the staff can look into ways that this obsession notification can be resolved?

III) I've seen killers literally sit at the hook and camp. Then as the survivor is pulled away, the killer lunges right back at them and downs them again... DC. That person just DC'd. Great.

-Maybe the staff can investigate into a way that just doesn't rely on Borrowed time (which is RARELY ran anyway) To protect a survivor from that experience.

  • The hatch is lore.

    1. The hatch should have NEVER been allowed to close in the first place.
    2. The hatch was a great idea. Because it brought out the selfishness in survivors. Vs what it is now. Due to ECG. Where survivors DC so the other player can just hatch and be done.
    3. Hatch stand-off was bad. So there should have been a way to purge survivors from the match after 40 minutes. Instead EGC is there, and a closed hatch leads to a DC, yet again.
  • Currently the counterplay to BBQ Is disconnecting if there is NO locker in sight. That is for a 2-man stand-off in this game.

It has been suggested that a way for the survivor to "end it all" is put in the game. So this can just be said and done. Sadly that is where we are at in this game. Mechanics that are broken because of survivors doing their fellow team mate a solid FAVOR. Even if I were to be restricted from queing 10 or 15 minutes for the next game. I'd still DC so my other survivor can HATCH. Because its the right thing to do.

  • IMO having to constantly tap Space-bar is annoying and hard on the keyboard's switches. I'd really like to see it be something where someone just HOLDS the button.

  • Im all for it. A "cyanide capsule" that is in the game. I really wish they wouldn't hold back in this game and amp up the gore. With this. it only makes it that much better. I think it is a great idea.

Currently the only counterplay to 2-man standing BBQ killers is Disconnecting.

  • I think pointing would be enough. Waving. NO. Killers, are killers for a reason in this game.

  • The game is too bugged for that. I mean lets be honest. I come across survivors stuck in walls. pallets and even the killer that slugs everyone and goes AFK. Thats still a bug or a broken mechanic in the game. Including the dreaded EGC that has NOT been fixed.

  • I dont mean to be rude. But you must be doing something that is setting people OFF. DBD has an "Unwritten rules book" that everyone sort of adopts. The two big ones are.

    1. Dont Camp.
    2. Don't tunnel.

I mean it pretty much is self explanitory. Survivors wont become toxic and even may counter-report you for holding the game hostage. As much as I dont like to be "that guy". you have to play by some of the community rules. Even if the survivor does that "butt dance". just put up with it. They are not worth camping and giving attention to.

  • Yeah. BBQ NEEDS to be nerfed and so does Nurses callin. So far this is the best post i've ever heard on this

  • Distortion should be infinite IMO. Just like "Calm spirit". It was the perfect counter to "Spies from the shadows". Killers are VERY much so. Leaning and crutching on BBQ, Nurses calling, Legions default abilities, All ears, and a WHOLE bunch of other perks that show locations of survivors. Which changes the dynamic of the game and phases out a portion of the player base.

  • ECG is already annoying with ushering in tons of DC's. Keys can stay as far as I am concerned. If a survivor hatches on me. I congrats to them and talk about their escape. It feels amazing. Like this RUSH of fear. Leave it.

  • Tunneling could have been addressed with adjustments vs perks.

    1. Downed recovery meter and wiggle meter share the SAME slot.
    2. They should have just left it so once the meter filled. The player could exit the dying state OR use a hooking post to climb back up into the game. This would have been IDEAL. So killers wouldn't have to search as hard for slugs that hide by running generators.
    3. Killers within a radius of the hook. Stop the countdown timer and start a recovery meter so survivors can pull themself off the hook and have a 5 or 10 second invincibility (like borrowed time and mettle of man)
  • BBQ is annoying. I originally bought this game before that annoying perk came out. I enjoyed HIDING and when the killer came looking. I would stay hidden. But then BBQ came in and ruined it for me. I now regret buying the game. I am not good at pallet looping and especially having to hide in the locker is really lame.

TBH if they run BBQ + Iron Maiden. Welp. HEH... gg me.

Which comes down to the big strat of running BBQ. Most of these good survivors I play against, as The Killer. If there are 2 survivors left. The other survivor DC's so the perk doesn't activate. Very smart on their part. Simply put. I don't run BBQ and learned to play WITHOUT it from the start of the game AND then I learned not to use it. Because SWF easily outplays it.

Bottom line is. The perk is OP as heck in the lower ranks and pointless in the high ranks. If it was a HEX. It would have been perfect.

  • I do like the idea. Im not very good at the game and find that certain perks I can never play against.

  • I'd like a slower DS meter with a larger skill check zone. And if we miss it. it still works. Im actually really bad at this game :-)

  • They NEED to revise the whole verbal ban system and post-game chat system too. I had a friend get in some trouble for saying what he did in chat. The killer DID provoke it after my buddy told the killer to stop camping and actually play the game. (TYPICAL DBD TOPIC, AMRIRITE?) and the killer said something to set him off. WOW did my friend let that guy have it.

Next thing you know hes banned from the game for a few days. So Let me go back on this. Looking at this from a LEGAL standpoint. The friend didn't exploit the game and the game DOES have other modes such as Shopping for goods, An offline shrine of secrets which players can go in and use it. as well as the INCOME mode for the game is in that screen too. As well as PLAY AGAINST FRIENDS mode.

If a person looks at the "ban screen" it wont let the player into the actual game itself. It uses a pre-load authentication before a player can access that. That means OFFLINE content and FRIENDS-ONLY can NOT be accessed.

So if I go over and look at Canadian law. and the business rules. Is this actually legal? Well if I was to put this into their perspective.. I think you can imagine where this IS going. Probably. NOT.

So lets dive into the depth of this. and go with Justification.

    1. Should the game simply MUTE the player from post-game chat. More than likely it is a "YES". They SHOULD receive a mute ban. All Valve servers and SRCDS Server admins resort to MUTES vs Ban. I own an SRCDS server and that is what I DID. Because I WANT Ad revenue. If the person can no longer talk. They still play the game, and the que times are fairly balanced. Everyone becomes toxic in online games at some point.
    2. Should the Game's UI still be accessible during a ban for abusive language. "yup" if the player wants to use the store to customize their Character and buy stuff from the store. Let em.
    3. Should friends-only mode still be accessible for a language and verbal abuse ban. YUP. It means that they are ONLY playing with friends and not spreading it through the community.

The bottom line is. Ethically speaking. Verbal abuse is bad. But depriving someone of SAID PROPERTY over something which wasn't exploiting, hax'ing or even a semi-false reporting. Including PROVOKED language. Isn't enough to justify a LOSS of content that the player PAID FOR. If that is the case. Than talking with my business lawyer for my farm. A person could in ESSENCE file a suit against the player, with a Subpoena to court in order to challenge the player that reported the other party. due to deprivation of said property. With a request for server records and seek damages. Which is why game companies need to revise their policies in the first place. Cheat = justified ban. Verbal Abuse. MUTE ban. Fair policies.

  • Killers exiting out of the same match as well. Would be interesting. The Exit Gate Zone seams to be almost like the "safe house" from L4D. Where the zombies can hammer at the door and once the survivors lock it. They can poke fun at the killers. SO there always could be some room that they COULD make it so survivors essentially have a risk for remaining in there. Such as exposure status. So insta-downs are the risk of being in that zone. But again... Once that changes. It completely changes the dynamic to the game all together.

Which I most certainly can tell. NOBODY is going to like. SO lets leave it as such.

  • Pallets are out of control and so are windows. Survivors see it as "Killer with a 10 foot arm". Which I play survivor enough to find that it frustrates me to no avail that the killer literally hit me. Despite visually being away from the point of contact.

To be fair. Pallet Vacuum and window Vacuum kept more bugs from ocuring. With the way it is now. Im sure they see it fine during in-house testing. But in real-world application. Latency changes that "Fair hit".

  • Its not really the killer's fault and honestly sometimes its not the survivors either. Frustration is rampant on both sides and there needs to be addressing. I've posted over on the steam forums on curbing this issue and in my findings. EGC has caused hard-rage. So players disconnect. Sure, punishing a player for leaving sounds good. But once it does start. It means less people will play. When players leave. It is out of frustration.

    1. Killer spawned RIGHT next to the survivor at the start of the match.
    2. Hex Ruin. Players don't want to sit there trying to find a hex totem, just so they can do Generators. AND killers don't want to lose their totems right away either!
    3. Nobody wants to play against Legion, GhostFace or Spirit right now.
