Fair enough, either way, its a problem that needs to be dealt with. They really should treat it as any other multiplayer game does, where people get banned or low priority queue or various other punishments for DCing or "feeding"/hook suicide constantly.
Maybe increasing the depip penalty could work ?
Losing two pips is not much more than a slap on the wrist when you can't actually derank, and rank rewards are so precious when you don't feel like grinding an extra ten hours.
Maybe losing one whole rank when DCing would disincentive people from DCing, especially as ranks go up and need more pips.
-
I'm pretty sure the "survivors sabotaging the stats" is a conspiracy theory. People have reasons for giving up midgame, and those reasons are outside of just reverting the changes.
I also think it is pretty unfair assuming that such a significant proportion of survivors had "bully the killer" as a side objective.

If that were true, then the game would reward the killer for "making" the survivor suicide on hook. But as it stands it doesn't, it actively punishes the killer because they lose out a 1/4 of the bloodpoints they would have gotten from them between chases, hits, hooks and, depending on the killer, deviousness points as well.
I was being purposefully disingenuous with that argument, since I do not agree with toxic behaviours being justifiable through lore.

Killing on hook should be punishable, if it's done excessively - because it's really the same as DCing. It's a ragequit. Technically, I'd qualify this as 'working with the killer', and would treat it the same.
You will always have a ton of DCs and ragequits, because that's gaming. A lot of people want to win, and they want to win fairly easily. Anything that prevents this - bail. Which is why most games have pretty harsh penalties for rage quitters.
Even back in the dusty recesses of 2020, when this game was absurdly survivor sided, I saw a ton of DCs from survivors - generally the second I downed them, or saw I was playing Hag or Doctor.
I don't think it amounts to working with the killer.
Also, one could argue that lore-wise, survivors giving up is justifiable, since I've seen a post going around that tunneling is okay since according to the lore survivors can and should be driven to desperation and anguish from killer behaviours. In that vein, killing yourself on hook is a pretty integral part of the game.
Before the update, except when playing Legion, I didn't see people DCing often, so I don't think it's a problem that is as prevalent usually. To be fair, even since the update, when I play survivor (on low mmr), very few people actually willingly throw games. They're just new and flail around with good intentions but no skill yet.
From a lot of posts from survivor mains, I gather that most survivors don't necessarily want to win (or even to win easily), they want the game to feel fair and have a chance to be fun. Unmotivated DCs (just doesn't like the killer) pale in comparison to DCs as reactions to harmful behaviours.
Let's adress those first, maybe?
(Also, props to you for playing Doctor, he's my favourite killer to go against, and Hag is my second main, all the love for her)
-
Language filter is more capricious than a feather-clad diva.
There are words that you will get censored for, but that other players can say without problem.
You can't say "claudette main". You actually often can't say "main" at all, or any character name in the same sentence.
Some perk names are censored.
-
I like how title says "it's fair to say" and then not only generalizes all survivors, but also digs at them with "like they always have", which sounds pretty disingenuous.

I don't camp. I don't tunnel. I don't play especially mean.
I still see a DC in 25-30% of my games.
Clearly, the DC penalty is not fine - and if people are going to find another way to ruin games, the answer is to also penalize that.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3103802#Comment_3103802
No, they are correct.
Killer DCs = everyone moves along with some BP, straight to their next game.
A survivor DCs = now killer has to spend time playing an annoying game, hunting down 3 people who've gone AFK in lockers or in the shrubbery, or 3 people have to play out a boring, unwinnable game.
These play out differently in reality, and you can't really compare them - unless the killer DCing meant that survivors had to finish all the gens and then leave, whilst also getting a penalty to BP and points gained.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3103714#Comment_3103714
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3103719#Comment_3103719
Start it at zero.
The problem with DbD is the way that the penalty is handled. Most sensible systems allow you a free crash or two, then an escalating penalty that quickly gets quite nasty. To make the penalty decrease, you have to play out games without DCing.
In DbD it's purely based on time - which basically means that people can DC at least twice a day before they start to feel it.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3103675#Comment_3103675
You shouldn't be punished for the occasional crash.
If you're crashing daily, you need to be encouraged to stop.
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3103658#Comment_3103658
Shrug.
By the same logic, if you can't cure the disease, you need to manage the symptoms.
People will always find something they don't like to face, and - this being the internet - will then amp this up to 'omg this is frustrating to fae and I'm not having fun unless I win, so I should be able to DC'.
No matter what you change, you aren't going to fix that.
So you have to control it.
Trust me, I'm not implying you're camping or tunneling. I'm a Legion main, I'm used to survivors DCing just because they don't like me.
The other way I'm thinking of people throwing is actually not punishable. If people kill themselves on hook, it literally can't be punished without being harmful to legit players of various skill levels.
I'm pretty sure this wave of DCs will decrease when the problematic behaviours from the other side will either diminish as killers take it out of their system or are officially adressed. Otherwise, these players will likely leave the game whether for a while or permanently, or switch to killer.
I still don't think increasing the timeout would accomplish a lot on the short term or long term.

I ask because as a killer who goes for 8 rotating hooks before i consider saccing someone, I often run into this situation where I am looking for the next survivors in the first rotation, but run into a survivor I've already hooked sitting on a gen, often unhealed. Now I could ignore them, but I also need pressure and to keep them off the gens. At the same time, too often do I hook a survivor out of rotation only to either have potato survivors let them die on hook or I accidentally put too much pressure on the survivors and again end up with someone dying on second hook.
My solution up to this point has been to slug them and move on knowing that it gives them more time for their teammates to pick them up, and I have the safety net of being able to go back and pick them up myself to let them wiggle off if thier teammates potato out on them. Doing so though always leaves me feeling bad for leaving them on the ground even though it's the safer option.
Hence me trying to feel out what survivor opinions might be.
I understand ! I generally play kinda friendly and try to rotate, but there are times this one survivor who's on second hook is just EVERYWHERE you go for some reason.
I personally don't slug, because I have such a bad memory that most times I know I won't find them again, and since I'm often running Hex : Third Seal their teammates can't see them either. It happened once that I let someone on the ground and forgot where, guy had to DC after 3 full minutes on the ground and none of his teammates finding him. When I checked his steam page after the match, guy only had like, 10 hours on the game. I felt SO BAD !
-
The glitch has not yet been acknowledged as far as I know, and there was no indication of any change for Oni in the hotfix, so yes, he's still broken, to my knowledge.
-
Killer's not camping, and went after someone else after hooking me ?
If I get caught then it's really on me. I'd be more confused/wary if killer didn't hook.
In that scenario I don't prefer one over the other, I generally don't like being slugged, but earlier experience seems to indicate the killer plays normaly and hooks, so if I'm slugged it's probably because killer saw someone near or something, which is understandable...
-
Survivors lore-wise are supposed to be scared and desperate, but the game doesn't have that many horrror elements. You don't get really anxious as survivors unless you're against a really stealthy killer that plays as such.
Camping and tunneling isn't scary. It's just boring, annoying, and frustrating. I don't think these emotions are what the Entity is looking for.
The game is enjoyable from a gameplay perspective, but lore-wise is ultimately pointless. You never truly escape, you go from trial to trial and nothing changes.
The game only being enjoyable from a gameplay perspective is precisely what makes camping and tunneling problematic : it's denying other players the gameplay experience. Without that, there is really no reason to play DbD.

I mean, it does seems in character for the Doctor to make a scientific experiment out of this situation xD
-
I swear sometimes killers are so entitled they'll imagine survivors can telepathically come to an agreement with them over side objectives.
Best I've had is a killer insulting me for letting my slugged friend bleed out to get hatch for a daily (which was my friend's idea since he was being camped so it's not like I griefed him) and told me that "if I'd told them I needed to escape, of course they would have spared me!". Like. That's not what it looked like and HOW ? And if you would have, how come you're salty I got hatch ?
If you want your rush hits that bad be friendly and farm ? Otherwise don't get salty survivors are good at looping.
-
Killers I really like going against : Doctor, Legion, Artist
Killers I hate going against : Deathslinger, Huntress, Bubba
-
I think it's fair game to blame killers when it comes to tunneling and camping at five gens, especially since it's hard to communicate as solo and especially in low mmr where survivors are flailing around doing their best but it not being enough (very low % of people willingly throwing games here, just... being new. And therefore bad. Being new against (even bad) killers has become very very lethal.)
That being sad, I'm a bit tired of people hating on Legion (as if they were not hated enough pre update ! I had so many DCs and suicides before the update already) because of Thana. This perk was always good on them, it got even better, sure. But Legion is still not that lethal, and at least their power makes it so that they rarely tunnel.
I personally don't run Thana on Legion, I prefer Nurse's Calling because in low mmr people still heal against Legion and therefore gens don't pop that fast anyway.
-
Any map (and add-ons) or keys (and add-ons) are a pure waste of bloodpoints in my books.
Maps are essentially useless and so are keys most times.
Couple that with the fact that using flashlights can often get you tunneled, and that I don't use map offerings because I like it being random, and the only useful things besides perks in my bloodwebs are medkits and toolboxes.

You can buy the character with shards. For no money.
I guess, but it's still a lot of grinding to get there and to make the perk available on others.

Also, OTR is a DLC perk. Not everyone wants to invest 6$ and 15 hours of grinding to get OTR on their characters.

Why do you find it useless in the late game? When you’ve got only 1 or 2 gens left is when survivors are typically working together as there’s less gens left to split up on.
I think they mean if there are less survivors alive it's less efficient ?

I'm pissed, cause I just got DESTROYED 3 matches in a row against randoms(extremely good randoms who know every map and the best spots to loop , boons etc) on one of the best pallet & window maps in the entire game.also since the update my hag has had horrible response time when transporting, the aim dressing and it'll throw the camera way off target when I tp if they're doing anything other than just standing there. Any tips for the response time ? I'll be spamming my controller and it'll do this weird half stop thing most of the time once I finish the tp.
Hi again,
I played a Hag game yesterday, and it might have been because indoor map (RPD), but I did have trouble with my teleportations. The camera seemed off and I found myself often teleporting to face a wall or a corner rather than a survivor.
-
DC penalty is fine.
If time increased, people would throw in other ways. Let's not punish people who might have connection or hardware failures.
Also, DCing is sometime the only answer to games that take you hostage. Wouldn't you hate having a 20min timeout if you've already been stuck in a game with a hacker, or with BMing survivors who just WON'T get out but that you can't catch ?
-
Getting greedy for these late game points haha !
I've never seen this being done (I've seen maybe 2 demogorgons in the 2 months I've played), but it really is so satisfying to watch !!
You didn't even really hide what you were doing, if they peeked they would have seen you put the second portal down, and what else would you have done going in that corner for 6 seconds ?

Merciless storm may be a decent counter, especially if you use it with discordance on Nemesis. I believe the skill checks activate for everyone participating in gen repairs so you're 2x/3x/4x more likely to get value. The discordance will alert any nearby zombies.
I personally don't think Merciless Storm is that much of a counter, having encountered several killers with this perk while running Prove Thyself these past few days.
Merciless Storm skillchecks do appear for everyone, but only for the duration needed to finish the gen. Which means that if several people are on it, especially with Prove Thyself, the least amount of skillcheck each survivor will get.
And I find that the skillchecks aren't that hard, it's just the fact that they are continuously present for 9 seconds (when you're alone on the gen) that gets hard. You're bound to mess up at some point, especially if you hear the killer coming or someone is downed or if there is any form of pressure.
But the more people on the gen, the shorter that time will be (I didn't calc it, but maybe 5 seconds if all 4 are on the gen, maybe even less if one has Prove Thyself). And it's a bit easier for 4 people to be focused for 5 seconds than for one to keep concentration for 9 seconds.
Bottom line is, I've failed many Merciless Storm skillchecks when alone (I swear, on the last pixel of the completion bar), but when I'm with at least one other player we generally don't blow up the gen because we don't have to be hyperfocused for as long.

I cannot tell why they do not add a spam prevention for it. It would be easy to prevent macros from happening but they just don't do it.
There isn't any other purpose rather than to be toxic with it
I'm pretty sure they don't because the simplest thing would probably to dedicate a set number of charges per activation of the flashlight, yet sometimes survivors will go for a flashlight save, realise upon flashing that they'll never get it, and quickly give up the idea to spare the flashlight's charges.
Forcing the flashlight to go trough all the charges necessary for a complete blind every time you turn it on WOULD stop clicking, but it would also prevent a lot of flashlight saves, and therefore would be a HUGE nerf to the item.
Maybe it could be possible to add something that makes it so that you can't turn it on/off more than twice in a second ?
I personally don't mind clicking that much, I have abysmal object permanence so it generally helps me find the survivor in chase if they left my FoV.

Adrenaline, you could argue about whether or not it should pause if you're on hook or whatnot. What *can't* be argued is that it wakes you up if you're against Freddy, which is straight up unfair; it's one of the few perks with a function to specifically counter a single killer, which is something the devs claim they want to do away with.
Unbreakable? Unbreakable is just a powerful perk that's been a powerful perk since its inception. Even if you don't get off the ground, your ability to recover quickly means the killer cannot slug you. And that's something that is severely undervalued, because this perk exists, killers have to be careful and strategic of who/when they slug survivors. A single well timed UB can win the game, not to mention crippling killers such as Twins or Oni who are very slug heavy.
I did not know Adrenaline woke you up against Freddy, that's something I could see changing. I do think it activating when off the hook is important for endgame plays.
As for Unbreakable, it might be my own frustrations talking, but in my opinion, if a killer resorts to slugging, a.k.a enforcing an extremely boring game on the survivors, the killer kinda deserves to have one of the survivors use Unbreakable. Also, isn't that the point of a perk that when well used or well timed, it can win you (not even talking about your teammates) the game ? Plus it's only used once. If you slug the survivor a second time, the survivor won't be able to heal a second time.
-
I usually don't mind it, but some survivors are actually SO ANNOYING to hear.
I'm sorry Leon, I'm sure you're a great guy and all, but PLEASE shut up.
-
That's the most interesting and well-formulated analysis I've seen yet !
It does grate me a bit that the system makes survivor have to compensate for the killer, and that they actually suffer from it. It doesn't feel very fair.

Not supposed to be offensive, just curious. Is your Survivor MMR low as well? Because this might be the reason for the camping and tunneling. I play both sides equally, in relatively mid MMR i assume (as you don't see it, i have to guess), and i have almost no camping or tunneling. I just have less Killers giving me the Hatch if i'm the last Survivor.
No offense taken ! I'm pretty low mmr on both roles honestly, I have maybe 100 hours on the game? Started playing two months ago. I'm definitely doing better as killer, but I mostly play survivor (70-30) because I play with a friend.
I do know my experience is not that of all players (thank goodness!), and that me being new is... well, on me, but it just gets a bit frustrating when a game requires like, 500 hours to actually get good at it, and 6.1. definitely didn't help in that by making survivor beginner-hostile and killer beginner-friendly. (Low mmr actually felt balanced enough before the update)
I'll get better with time and practice, but I just don't feel very motivated to learn right now for reasons already stated. I'm kinda hoping toxic killers will get it out of their system and things get back to normal soon.
-
I often play friendly as killer, because it makes me crack up actually playing WITH the survivors. I'll put on the Legion Bunny Suit, and try to organise a parkour race if I can find enough pallets and windows in a single place...
I have adopted A LOT of survivors at this point. I'm just soft-hearted.
Reasons I've adopted survivors in the past :
- - They spawned weirdly close to me and clearly didn't expect me to find them in 6 seconds.
- - They were hiding in such an obvious spot (think the thinnest bush there is) yet I didn't see them for so long that when I finally notice them we're both laughing behind our monitors. (in that case, I hit and leave, and it sometimes evolves into some kind of 'hide and seek' where the survivor tries to find increasingly stupid places to hide and I try to find them. Bonus point if they're a SWF and try to one up each other. That's actually how I met some friends I play with now)
- - They did a sh*t pallet in a funny way (like, brought down the pallet but stayed on the same side I was on)
- - They were nice to me (In my first killer game on Midwich, I was stuck downstairs because I couldn't find stairs. A survivor came to find me and guide me with emotes)
- - [Specifically when I play Hag, my other main] : When they've obviously never gone against Hag and keep walking in my traps. I'm talking like, that one survivor who's been on hook twice already and that keeps running into me or setting off my traps. I'll set up my traps behind them again and leave them be.
I often get a least one wary survivor, but if I already offered to be friendly to them (already brought them to a gen instead of hooking them) I don't get back on my word, I'll let them go.
Favourite map to be friendly on : Temple of Purgation. I just think it's really funny giving a second chance by letting the survivor wiggle out while standing still in the middle of the temple.
Funniest endgame chat I got doing this kind of things : Survivors role playing that they're auditionning to join the Legion
Anyway, sorry for that brick of a comment ! I'm sorry some a*holes made you uncomfortable with friendly killers, but just know that there are genuinely chill killers who actually have fun letting survivors go.
Hope you have fun in your next games !
-
I'll precise that my answer is in a context of low mmr.
Killer is too strong in low mmr.
It may be balanced in higher mmr, I don't know, I haven't been there.
Also, survivor is unrewarding for other reasons than killer being too strong : not enough bloodpoints (easier to grind as killer), games are boring because either hitting skillchecks on gen or on a hook but not much else, tunneling and camping are still rewarded and therefore survivor games are trash.
-
No.
-
The dig at people who used to equip DH was not necessary, but I do agree that Legion is not a problem.
I may be biased because he's one of my two main killers, but I actually really enjoy going against Legion, if only because I know I'm less likely to get tunneled all game. (Also, chase music.)
Most Legions I've encountered are really chill.
-
Especially since the patch, killer is the only role that has consistent interactions throughout the game and actually feels fun. Sitting on gens is boring, and chases are so short most of the survivor games will be either hitting skillchecks on a gen or hitting skillchecks on a hook.
Whether I play my killer games friendly as Legion or seriously as Hag, I generally have fun during the game. If I get stomped to the point of it not being fun, then I actively make it fun by changing my objectives and interacting differently with the survivors.
I do agree that it takes a bit more motivation and energy for me to start playing killer than survivor, since I'll be alone and I'll be nervous at the idea of going against mean people, but to be fair, BM affects me much more when it's from killer than survivors. I just don't get salty about teabagging or clicking, since most times I feel like the survivors don't actually mean harm and they usually let up when they see I'm chill.
Also, since I'm still low mmr, killer really isn't too hard at the moment. I can easily get a draw or a win.
-
You can't say "[character name] main", or even "main" most times
-
..... Frank..
-
Please let's not add to the problem.
Self-care is already awfully slow, but still the most reliable healing option to a lot of solo qs, so it's still very present in matches, unfortunately.
Let's not make CoH worse too.
-
I don't think all of the DCs are about not being able to bully the killer.
From my experience this past week, it's more about the games being near impossible to win when you go against a full slowdown killer that stacks bad manners as the cherry on top of an already ruined game.
I think the DC penalty is pretty fair. If someone is driven to DC from a game, then they wait a little bit. It'll s*ck a little for the other players, but then again, it s*cked enough for the DC-er to DC.
If bad manners don't put you on timeout, I don't think DC-ing should be more punishable.

Funny to me at least. I am always on edge when playing survivor and I jumped out of my seat at the sight of the bunny. It genuinely scared me. I may have screamed. Just a little. A manly scream.

The actual buff is not a real problem, its just a 2% more in the rare cases when you get everyone injured. Its just super counterintuitive that they buffed this perk, ever so slightly, in the same patch were they introduced a +10 base gen time, this just feels so random and not well thought through and 100% unneeded.
I think the reason they buffed it is that BHVR logic was as follow : "we want to take all the most used/meta perks, and nerf them, but don't worry, we've selected OTHER less used perks with similar effects and buffed them istead".
This is why Thana and Overcharge got buffed, even if they're slowdown.
So even though gen time is longer, the devs DID intend for killers to use various slowdown perks. (whether we agree with them or not is irrelevant in that case)

That must have been hilarious from the survivor's perspective as well !! Destiny was on their side hahaha.
Also, if you're ever friendly in a game, know that there is nothing more heartwarmingv for a survivor than a Nemesis punching his own zombies to protect his little duckling survivors <3
-
This. I understand the need to nerf DH, as it was overpowered in high mmr.
But there is a certain insecurity in some killers about the perk, the same way there is an insecurity in some killers about flashlights.
I've jokingly called it "fragile killer-ity" with a friend before. Before patch, he was OBSESSED with how broken DH was, vowed to never use it as survivor "as a matter of honor" (but used NOED consistently, go figure).
But... We're pretty much in the same mmr (quite low, we started playing 2 months ago). We started playing the game at the same time, we both play killer almost exclusively together (each in our game, but chatting) at the same hours of the day, and have about the same results (as Legion, I often let some survivors go because I'm soft, but as Hag, I almost always get 3Ks, which compensates with my friend's average kills).
I don't know where his hatred of DH comes from, because when you hear him talk, all he ever goes against are toxic teabagging SWFs with DH, but.... I have literally never seen a DH be used well. Most I saw were sh*t DH where I would down them 3 seconds later. And most players I go against are not playing agressively. Those who are a bit cocky often don't mean harm and don't harass me. Nice endgame chat is maybe not frequent, but at least common.
Yet the survivors we are facing are from the same pool, most likely the same skill level.
I cannot explain how different our experiences are, except maybe we have different attitudes that survivors react to differently.
-
I do think maybe the AoT skins have something to do with it.
Otherwise nothing prevents two killers from being put on hold if there is something wrong with them, no matter which one is the most game breaking.
-
I think it's a tie !
Pig has snoot boops, Sadako is so small she has to lower the hooks with her powers to hang someone. Which is weirdly cute as well !
Both should get hugs <3
-
I mean, I am glad that they added the character name on the endgame board, so that I can see how many points that nice Claudette got, or what add-ons that Meg had on her item, without having to analyse their perks to guess who is who.
But it's true that the character's name is not more improtant than the player's username, so I don't understand why they made the username so little.

I was in my first real obvious hacker match this morning. I spawned in as solo survivor and 5 generators popped in rapid succession. A second later the EGC started and someone (obviously the hacker) escaped. Total elapsed time was about 5 seconds.
I had spawned facing another survivor (also solo I'm assuming) and we just stared at each other for a few seconds. We hadn't even moved yet. We both went running to find the killer. It turned out to be a dredge just standing there, probably dumbfounded as well. Whoever the other survivor had been must have found the open gate and escaped as well.
The killer wasn't moving so I just started locking lockers to try to gain some points for the match. After about 10 seconds of that the killer started moving and we got some chase points. The other survivor and I let the EGC kill us.
On the summary screen at the end, the hacking player had 2 points (which i don't see how that's even possible since he escaped), and he had brought a flan.
It's nice you got some interaction with the killer still !
I've had a hacker game a few weeks ago on RPD, where the Meg had infinite flashlight, instant blinding and light going through walls. My friends and I kept body blocking her to help the Nemesis catch her, but she would no-clip through us and keep running. Poor Nemesis went in a corner to wait out the game, but my friends and I shamed Meg into DCing (we kept surrounding her and pointing). We then looked for Nemy to resume the game, farmed a bit with him, and had a slug race. The postgame chat was very sweet !
