  • I think it'd be quite unhealthy. Having killers be written into legend and pop culture is part of the reason why so many people feel "inspired".

  • Yeah, new forums are, uh... Great. Really.

You should take a look at the poll section on desktop. No particular reason ! X)

  • I don't think something being left in the game, whether by negligence or because it's on the backburner, mechanically means the game is balanced around that. By that logic, everything untouched is by default currently balanced in this game... even the full BNP lobbies, COH + strongest medkits and addons, best addons/perks Nurse & Blight, biased maps, everything is already being balanced if not touched by the devs.

So, my opinion on this is that your argument is sound (if tunneling was completely removed as a possible strategy, like it became physically impossible to hook the same person twice, then there would need to be serious buffs to killer) but your logic is flawed.

Also, I'd much, much rather see reworks and QoL to individual killers than overall buffs that would not adress each killer's issues.

(Am I saying this after a few games of watching my zombies consistently go and hug each other into a corner ? Maybe...)

  • I can't say with 100% certainty that the same thing applies to my bloodwebs, but I sure wish I had more item spawn than addons or worse, map offerings.

The only items I use somewhat frequently are medkits, and that's only brown and yellow ones with generally no addons (I'm a bit of a hoarder). It's ridiculous how many unwanted addons or map offerings I have when I'd much rather have a brown medkit to not die because my random teammate didn't want to heal me...

  • Not looking to fiercely debate, just giving my opinion. =)

I don't think you can expect casual players to have enough time to invest into DbD to actually become really good at the game. However low the skill ceiling is in DbD compared to other games, it's still beginner unfriendly and can be very discouraging to evolve into. If the game was to be balanced around the really good players instead of the average, it would be even more so.

Good players get that good through spite and determination, but most people don't enjoy that as much as a game you can organically get better at, without having to spend several hundred hours on it and having to practice extensively. There already aren't enough players on the game for the matchmaking to work properly. Making the game elite-centric would no doubt worsen this.

So many people complain about the game becoming too competitive and sweaty, about things being broken. They don't want easy wins, they want a healthier environment in the game and to feel like they have an honest chance. Most people I meet are happy to lose if the game went by at a normal pace that let everyone actually have a bit of fun.

I generally hate PvP, I don't like confrontation or sweaty matches, but I still like DbD because by some magic I've found a niche I'm comfortable at, with variety of gameplay and nice enough opponents on both sides, and I 100% know it's because I'm staying in lower skill levels with casuals who have not yet become cynical and toxic. I dread the day I climb up high enough to only ever see a couple of killers as survivor and have survivors BM me as killer.

  • If you mean the killer not committing to chases while defending a 3gen, it's not reportable. It's maintaining pressure on the last survivor objective and 100% the correct play to make as killer.

  • Most Nurses are really okay. She might need a tweak or two to her addons, but she's only too strong at the top of mmr. Everywhere else she's actually quite fun to face !

  • I don't have any idea of a precise timeline, but I think rather than hard nerfing the most popular perks (that are popular for a reason) regular reworks of unused perks would be really welcome. If players had better options they would probably be easier to convince to stray from safe bets.

  • I really loved Until Dawn, great game, and I'd love nothing more than a human like feral creature as a killer (I am, after all, very fond of Hag), but at the same time there's already too much cultural appropriation of native folklore going around in horror media.

So I'll say Bioshock ! I think an underwater steampunk map inspired by Bioshock would look freaking awesome.

  • I think there are some interesting Celtic or Russian folklore that could be used.

I'd tread lightly on the Native American folklore as native communities have already expressed plenty of times that they are uncomfortable with the appropriation of their culture and myths for horror purposes.

  • Rank reset is coming tomorrow, so many people on both sides are playing super sweaty to try and grind those last pips needed to rank up.

There's been a couple of threads already about killers being sweaty/unsportsmanlike during the beginning of the event, I'm not surprised there are similar threads about survivors. It's a wicked cycle.

Hopefully as the rank reset comes and goes, people will chill a little. I remember the beginning of the Halloween event being really sweaty before rank reset, but quite chill going forward.

  • Less often than I wished I could !

During summer I used to play for 2 to 6h daily, but since uni and my work started again I'm lucky if I find time to play 3h a week. Hopefully when I'll have time off around Christmas I'll be able to finish the rift and get the winter cosmetics.

  • Oh, this one seems like a fun one ! =D

My favourite I encountered was a bloodied cosmetics Bill called "Grandfather Bill" and a default cosmetic Bill called "Regular Bill".

Endgame chat was full of joking around "You dare hit and old man ?!", it was a hoot. =)

  • Not stacking slowdowns as killer, and not stacking gen perks as survivors, but that's about it. It's more the accumulation than individual perks.

I don't have any perk that I feel honor bound not to take. I think it's a bit silly, especially if it doesn't go both ways. I have a friend who for the longest time swore on his honor that he would never learn to use Dead Hard because of how it felt as killer, yet who would put NOED in all his builds despite complaining about it when facing it...

  • I like Frosty Eyes, despite all the ribbing they get for being "NOED" or "noob" telltale signs. They fit some kilers bettter than others though. Legion looks really good with frosty eyes, Dredge looks ridiculous.

  • Do you think they created variants ? They might have a whole library of every single offense ever done against them, ready for friends requests !

I bet they thought themselves very clever...

  • I love Legion !

I like their chase music, they have tons of great cosmetics, and their gameplay of hit and run makes me not feel like I'm being tunneled. If Legion ends up at me again it's probably that I mended too early and Killer Instinct gave them my position. I genuinely like them. =)

That doesn't mean I survive very often against them, but then again, I don't survive often as a whole so it's a bit of a moot point.

... I am though, a bit biased. They were my first main and are still a killer I enjoy playing.

  • Usually Legion or Ghostface, because they're easy to turn friendly with and if I really need a recharge it'll often be with a relaxed, memeing-until-everyone-leaves kind of game.

What can tire me in the game is the players' bahaviours (my teammates teabagging the killer, clicking, waiting at the gate, killer tunneling, hitting on hook or slugging for 4min, etc). As killer I encounter much less BMing players, my survivors are usually quite kind, so if I need to recharge it'll usually be from a survivor game and by reminding myself that most people who play are not trolls or ill-intentioned. A friendly game does that.

And as much as i love Hag, her games can often be very tensed 3gen defending and that's not quite as relaxing to me as a parkour race with survivors on Legion. =)

  • Casual SWFs are hardly better than solos. Most times there is little to no difference in their escape rate, according to the devs. (Which is also my experience)

And if there was, then mmr would take care of it and put them in front of better killers, ensuring they still have the intended win ratio.

Some comp SWFs will have win streaks, but hey, so does every other killer that wants to prove their worth.

  • I wish more people remembered there are actual people behind the players in their games. It's frankly not hard to not be unsufferable.

  • I'll take it because I am just bad at finding gens on indoor maps, but it's really just... eh.

  • I might kill the regular hours players and let the newbie go, or if they're all prettty new, just be friendly after I get some hooks.

When you're that new, and if matchmaking apparenrly screws you over like that, you're probably dying over and over, and one friendly game or hatch here and there might make the difference between a horribly discouraging couple of hours and an overall okay experience.

I remember some of my first opponents being extremely nice when I started playing around the anniversary this year, on both sides, and it really shaped my experience of the game and attitude going forward.

This can be a super discouraging game when you're casual or new, and sometimes being a little nice goes a long way.

  • There are some weird DCs happening right now. Game inexplicably kicks you out and you get no DC penalty (thank gods for that, it would only be the unfairest thing of all if you did).

Playing killer the other day, I got back to back game where in one I got DC'd during a stun, and in the next one I got locked into a grabbing animation and the survivor got DC'd.

Not a hack as far as I can tell, just the game being the game. =)

  • I'm enjoying playing her, but I'm reaching a spot in matchmaking where I'm running out of inexperienced teams and having more and more survivors know how to counter her quite well.

I'm a rare items/add-ons hoarder, so I'm just playing yellow setup trap time and teleportation range mostly.

I'm happy to play her regardless of if I win or lose, but Corrupt Intervention has become a staple of my builds. I'm messing with Shattered Hope as well but it's not that great. I've tried going for instadown perks, Haunted Grounds is okay, but often cleansed before I get much traps out there, so it's not as lethal as it could be. Good for intimidation though !

Right now either the team is not very experienced to counter Hag and I go for chases, or some bald Dwight pops three of my traps while I'm carrying someone and I'll just f-scurry right off to my 3gen and get them over time. =)

  • I think BHVR don't want to fall into a power creep where they can only design increasingly powerful killers.

It's okay to design lower tier killers as well, or killers that are really hard to master. People who like them will play them, people who don't won't.

(I like to imagine the outrage if they had released Hag in this age and meta... Would probably be entertaining!)

Plus, with the base kit QoL buffs killers received, and might receive in the future now that overhauls like 6.1. are a thing, BHVR is free to experiment on new concepts that might not be immediately at their best.

  • Steve's squeal is hilarious !

I like Yun Jin's as well, for such a selfish diva, she sounds like a surprised kitten.

  • On the flipside, I think it looks freaking awesome.

Gameplay wise I can't disagree though.

  • I didn't know this game existed, haha. I'm very non competitive and usually don't like pvp, so DbD is the only game of this genre I play. =)

You guys don't agree with nothing,I post.Ive never been so wrong in my life xD

Oh, it's not about you being wrong !!

Everyone has their own opinions, and yours are as valid as any. We just have a different vision of fun. Some things you find exciting I would find discouraging, and some things I find fun you might find boring. It doesn't mean any of us is objectively wrong =D

I literally didn't carbon copy your post, I only read after posting after reading OP

It's fine ! I actually don't really agree with your points.

I don't want to debate though, so I'll leave it at that. Have a good day =)

However, a lot of people agree that playing the game optimally is not the most fun experience. Tunneling takes out one player entirely, who can't play the game at all because in 3 min they're out with little rewards.

So I get the idea behind this, I generally don't play killer because I feel like I have to avoid doing the obvious thing to keep the game interesting, but I'm surprised how frequently the player base puts this on other players instead of BHVR.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3287892#Comment_3287892

As the game grow older a meta (most efficient tools available) crystallizes, gets used by the majority and if you don't then you get left behind.

This makes sense. Games get old and we look back on the old version as if it was radically superior when what it was was new and fresh. Though the creators of DBD deserve massive praise if it took six years to get there.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/3287875#Comment_3287875

Isn't that what the game is going for though? Tension? That's what has kept me around DBD. Escaping actually feels significant. Getting caught at the end/losing a teammate late actually hurts.

"I'm surprised how frequently the player base puts this on other players instead of BHVR."

I mean, I think to a certain degree it's fair to put it on the players. Sure, BHVR are the ones that make the game rules and what is or is not possible, but the intent and attitude of players do count. The game is supposed to leave enough space for players to have agency in what they're doing with the resources the game gives them. If people use that agency to be toxic or uncaring, it's on them.

If a survivor is teabagging you at the gate after a 0K, are their bad manners the fault of BHVR ? It's not hard to not be a sore winner... It does not justify removing spam crouching, as it does have other meanings. They could just have been more graceful in their win. I've had teams run me down and have a 4-man escape, yet leave items and be encouraging in postgame chat. At some point, if players have agency, it's not the game anymore, it's their own behaviour. (pun intended)

If a killer is tunneling, they clearly don't care about the fun of the other player. Which is, by all means, their prerogative. They don't have to play fairly. But it's not on BHVR.

At least, that's my opinion =)

  • I would low key love for this to happen to me. I would cherish the clip FOREVER.

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/357273/dead-by-daylight-is-boring-now

now every players play like its a competition, no fun allowed just skill.

I've only been playing for about 4 months, but I'd like to understand the idea behind this. How did people use to play? It's a game, the goal is to accomplish the objectives, the faster you do that (example: gen rush/tunneling) the more likely you can accomplish that.

Now I have a problem that certain perks/add-ons are so powerful that they seem necessary/over-powered, but that's a different issue than player's attitudes toward the game.

I've played for about the same amount of time you did, but approach the game very differently.

Sure, the goal of the game is to do gens/escape, or to kill survivors. Technically yes, doing your objective as fast as possible is the way to "win".

However, a lot of people agree that playing the game optimally is not the most fun experience. Tunneling takes out one player entirely, who can't play the game at all because in 3 min they're out with little rewards. Genrushing makes the game last 5 min, with no one getting much points/rewards. Both tend to lead to unilateral game where one side stomps the other. And this often leads to frustrations and bad manners : teabagging and clicking at the gate, hitting on hook or sluggin for 4 min, being agressive in endgame chat...

Some people find their fun from "winning" at all cost. Others don't.

As killer, I personally find my fun in games where it looks like everyone is having fun. I don't bring the strongest stuff, I don't play too efficient. The survivors generally notice and chill themselves. We interact more, stay in good spirits, and don't take to heart wins or losses because the game was entertaining regardless. Positive or fun endgame chat is very frequent.

A lot of the frustrations in this game originate form the fact that matchmaking can't separate super competitive players who care for winning more than for fun (for example, a friend of mine went on a 100 winstreak on Nurse and hated every moment of it, but still did it for WiNnInG), and players that are here to chill and just have a good time. =)

  • No devs on our hellsite (affectionate) !

  • I think Shattered Hope shouldn't be base kit as is.

A partial version would be better in my opinion, because otherwise boons would be one and done, which is a bit of a harsh counter for it to be base kit.

(Before you come at me about hex perks, I also think hex perks are for the most part much too fragile for their effects, and that they should be buffed or possible to ignite back once they've been cleansed. 10 seconds and hex again, albeit without any token it accumulated before being cleansed)

I think basekit Shattered Hope should be first snuff -> one skull falls off the totem and halves the range of any boon that would be placed on it again, second snuff -> totem is broken, can't place boons there anymore.

To make Shattered Hope worth bringing, I'd make it show the killer the auras of all dull totems locations, and be able to break dull totems as well on a cooldown of 60s. That would hard counter boons in a more efficient way and give a bloodpoint score in deviousness of like, 500 by totem.

That way the basekit is not too harsh but the actual perk would be worth something.

  • Backburner material, like most solo q issues I guess.

  • People who have a lot of experience with her realy make her shine, using strats no beginner or casual player will think of or know how to put in place.

In those hands, she is very strong.

However, she is not beginner friendly by any means, and you really need to strap your ass to your chair to play her long enough to know all her tricks. For most players, she's completely reliant on if survivors know how to counter her. If they do, you lose. Simple as that.

She's in a weird spot where you can't really buff her because very good players are so strong (like Nurse), and the fact that she's played so little makes most survivors unaware of how to counter her.

That creates a self fulfilling prophecy that since they don't know how to counter her, her killrates seem fine on paper, but once you hit mid mmr and go against players who can counter her she doesn't have anything in her base kit to help you. It's gonna be spite and wiles keeping you going and nothing else.

But since she's so hard to play, no one plays her. So no one knows how to counter her. So her killrates remain fine, not buff worthy despite so few people playing her.

I do think that should Hag get some buffs, she'd be played a bit more, which means more people would know how to play against her, and it would therefore not necessarily make her overpowered as she still has a billion counters and can be made an m1 killer by good teams.

I have nothing against killers being hard to master, I think the game should have more kilers like Nurse, Hag or even Knight that are hard to learn but rewarding to win with.

I just think Hag has maybe a little too many counters. Or is slow as hell.

  • I haven't played Bioshock 2 (only the remaster of the first one so far), but absolutely !

  • I've actually mentioned this before. BBQ and Chili is SUCH a nice perk, even without the bloodpoint bonus. It's just so useful, and it promotes good gameplay as the killer is incentived to leave hook.

(Unless, of course, they see the last survivors completing the last gen and decide it's better to camp this one out)

I absolutely wouldn't mind killers getting some sort of BBQ as base kit, and maybe buffing actual BBQ to a longer duration to see if survivors are reacting to you hooking the survivor.

If some sort of kindred makes it base kit, I hope killers will get some sort of BBQ. =)

  • I'm probably the softest killer around, so it doesn't take much for me ! =)

Generally, if a player DCs early or midgame, I'll 2-hook everyone else to secure some points and then mess around and let them go.

If I'm met with a fun bunch just looking to meme around, I'll absolutely meme around. (Bartender survivors in Dead Dawg are a delight !)

If someone is being a little ######### to their teammates, I'll take them out and be nice to the rest as well.

But also, sometimes if I've had a few bad games or if I just want to relax I'll load in specifically to be friendly, with Legion mostly, and make survivors understand I just want to have parkour races and farm a little bit.

To be fair, that comes from a place of very rarely seeing mean survivors. Most of the teams I get are quite chill and often sweet, in victory as well as in defeat, so I tend to be sweet in return. =D

  • I'm pretty sure they wouldn't even be allowed to comment on this. If it's coming from above, they don't have a say in it nor can they give opinions about it, personal or otherwise.

  • I'm a big fan of Hex : Third Seal, but part of it is that I think it's maybe the only hex perk survivors just... don't bother to look for. At least not systematically.

The effect is so minor, right ? It doesn't slow the game like Ruin, it's not lethal like NOED or Devour, it doesn't even make chases difficult like Blood Favor... Better plow through those gens and progress the game !

Yet when the time comes to go for the unhook... Teammate only has 20 seconds left until next stage.... WHERE are they hooked exactly ?

I refrain from using it too much because I know I'm mostly going against solos, and that it's a bit overkill against teams with no coordination.

But I do agree that most hex perks are too fragile for their effects. They'd deserve either to be buffed or to be protected for a time - maybe only becoming possible to cleanse once you've downed a survivor.

  • Man, I'm looking forward to the snowmen. I wasn't around for last year's event and I can't wait to hop into a snowman and go say hi to killer =D

  • I've seen a spike in DCs and give ups on hook immediately after 6.1., but for the past few months things had seemed to settle a little.

However, the past week I've experienced weird DCs on both sides that were not petty in nature but the game being its weird self. For example, getting DC'd during a stun or a survivor DCing after being locked into an animation. Those do not have DC penalties.

Maybe the last update made the game less stable and wound up with more DCs than usual.

Not explaining the survivors giving up on hook, but I definitely think there are more DCs currently that what is "normal".

Seriously wondering where all these awful TTV's are

Pretty much all of the ones Ive versed have been chill af. I usually try to play in a way thats either funny or entertaining tho because I wanna try to get a few good clips if possible. Like this one I got just a few nights ago!

    https://clips.twitch.tv/PatientImpossibleTermiteCopyThis-IdWmOTlYE6lj_jtJ

Slow turns like these are hilarious !! And set the tone of the game pretty well, I love when killer does this ! =)

  • Sad to see a fellow Legion main go, you seem like a good guy.

Hopefully you'll get some peace of mind now =)

  • I can't wait to get +100% on my 4k bps after 3 teammates insta DC'd and killer hooked me.

Snarkiness aside, I don't think it would solve anything.

I'd much rather have a surrender option to leave the match without a penalty if someone DC'd early.

  • Big no in my opinion. It would completely wreck not only newer but also casual players.

Learning to hide red stain is a part of mindgaming anyway.

I don't think killers need more base kit buffs, at least until solo buffs arrive. I'd much rather have BHVR take the time to actually address each killer's issues through addon passes or reworks than make a general buff and call it a day.

  • Hello ! I started playing killer a few months ago, and I'm not sure there's an universal way of destressing when playing killer, but I can tell you what worked for me. =)

I'm a very non competitive person at heart, DbD is even the only pvp game I play regularly. Because of that, I have a very casual mindset. I'm playing to have fun, and for me that means that everyone is (hopefully) having fun.

That means I play very fair, maybe a bit too much. (Once again, not telling you how to play, just how it works for me). I might be losing a few more kills than I could get, but it keeps me in a level where people are playing chill and for fun more than anything.

When faced with some BM (which is much rarer for me than apparently is the norm), like a survivor teabagging a little after a pallet stun, I usually headbang or spin in return. It makes it so that it's not them making fun of me anymore, it's us memeing together. It's dumb, but it works to make me feel better. A lot of the time, it makes them realize I'm chill, and they stop being agressive. =)

Hope you get good next games ! Also Ghostface is very fun <3

  • I personally found it hilarious. Was it very cringe ? Yes. Was it also a good laugh ? Definitely !
