  • Bad ping benefits the killer for hit validation for the most part, so if your ping is good then there's not much else you can do. If the killer's ping is bad then they'll have an advantage you can't really anticipate in lobby, and that unfortunately you can't do much to counter.

In extreme cases you could DC, but you'll get penalty. I only did it once for ping related reasons, the killer was teleporting around and glitching when carrying a survivor. They weren't even a hacker, they just had one million ping and it made the game uncomfortably weird.

  • Honestly just making her blink attacks count as special hits would go a long way without harming her playstyle for most players.

I'm a firm believer that in most levels Nurse is really fine and that so is her basekit. It's only really good Nurses with really good builds that are a bit OP.

  • I read the title and was about to mention Leons. Consistently the most goofy, himbo incarnation of survivors.

I am very amused to see not only one, but two people beat me to it ! X)

  • Visually, Garden is one of the most beautiful maps. I still can't get over how cool those broken trees and floating splinters look !

  • A theory is that the pool of players is not big enough to perfectly match everyone with same-skill teammates and opponents, so matchmaking has to make do with what it can and mix skill levels to shorten queue times.

  • While it would be really cool and coherent with the addon name, I don't think it would be that good an idea. Imagine having someone you'd 99'd be exposed when you're on the other side of the map ! That'd be so frustrating. xD

  • Because at a lot of levels, she's really manageable and balanced. Your average Nurse is not a god and is actually quite fun to face.

Only very good Nurses with very strong builds are "broken".

And like a lot of things in DbD, it's hard to adjust her so that her strongest potential is reduced without harming her in spaces where she's not outstandingly strong.

  • I wouldn't mind less frequent new chapters.

Maybe on top of cosmetics they could also review older chapters to make small balance changes =)

  • I'd say refine old killers but also work on the overall balance.

There is already a crowded roster of killers and survivors, I think at some point it would be nice adressing the actual reasons why DbD's player retention is not that great. New killers can pull in new players, but if they just play a few games, get put off by the toxicity and high frustration, and don't keep playing, then it's not very sustainable.

As the game is, and as much as I enjoy DbD, it took me several hundred hours into it to even get half decent at it. When a friend asked me if he should get into the game, I could not genuinely recommend he played it.

As much as 6.1. could be frustrating, more overall balance patches would be welcome.

  • I like playing both !

I enjoy playing killer more than playing survivor, but SWF (duos most times) makes up the difference just because that lets me spend time with a friend in a game I enjoy. So it's pretty much SWF = Killer > Solo Q Survivor. =D

  • @Xarosan said:

Fun fact: The aura your friend saw wasn't not actually from the basement, but rather from the results screen area the survivor is teleported to after escaping

It's somewhere far under the map, because sometimes on the results screen you can see some auras when all gens power up/hatch is closed/survivor is sacrificed from there

I'd love to see Steve's perspective to see if there was any animation change on his end!

I too am very curious to see if he collapsed on the end result screen !

  • Ah, yes. Classic Freddredge Krueger !

Every game when it is optimized becomes boring because the best tactics to win are usually safe and methodical and for the most part boring.

No one is forcing you to play that way if you wanna have fun, you're the one limiting yourself because you want to win. And to win you have to use those tactics either as killer or survivor.

This game is 6 years old, by this time people have narrowed down the best tactics that are low risk high reward.

I would love as a survivor to have more perks and the game to be more focused towards chases, but I don't think killers would be happy about that either (killers are still complaining about Dead Hard and even Windows of Opportunities because they can extend chases).

You can simply just go for 4 aura reading perks if you wanna play in an exciting way but people would rather run 3-4 slowdowns because they are so much safer. You don't have to chase everyone in that case especially good loopers, you can find the weak link force him to drop pallets therefore using up resources and then downing everyone becomes easier AND you get slowdown on top of that. SO the game can reach a state where no more pallets are left but survivors still have 2-3 gens to finish.

Unlike aura reading where you have to be excellent at downing survivors at the right time and committing to the wrong target will cost you more.

"No one is forcing you to play that way if you wanna have fun, you're the one limiting yourself because you want to win."

I think you sum it up quite well. A lot of killers* will complain that their games are too sweaty and no longer fun, but instead of letting go for a bit and accepting a few losses to remain in a bracket where they can mess with chill builds... they'll double down, say "to hell with it" and bring the most sweaty builds they can, not realizing that they're running headfirst into sweat city, which is precisely what they were complaining about in the first place. And the longer they'll spend fighting fire with fire, the furthest they'll be from chill brackets when they'll finally be tired of all the sweat and salt. Same with players doing 100 win streaks, and then complaining about sweaty games when they're back into chill mode.

*I'm saying killers particularly because unless full SWF, survivors do not gain anything by lowering their mmr, only worse teammates.

  • I'd rather have the game be balanced outside of perks, so that everyone benefits from it.

That being said, I like some of the ideas that have been suggested. =)

  • It's true that DbD is insanely frustrating as a beginner, to the point that there is not much more than spite to hold on to for those first hundred(s) of hours until you're at an okay level.

However, it's extremely difficult to balance the game to take into account both killer and survivor fun, and at all levels of skill.

DbD really is a complex thing, and for all that we can criticize BHVR for how they handle everything, I don't know anyone who can pretend to know better how to handle those issues.

How can people reach the conclusion that Nightlite is a playerbase that is better on average. The Dredge has around 53% killrate on there but on the stats we got shown by BHVR he was up to 60%. Same with Pinhead. On Nightlight he has a measly 51%. The Artist has 48%. What? Are those killrates averaged with killrates before patch 6.1? I'm so confused at what I'm seeing on there vs what people are saying😵

I think they're better on average but I admit I could be wrong. My logic is that most people don't know Nightlight exists unless they've been playing a long while, or stumbled upon it on the forums.

As for the lower kill rates, I think maybe it might be that mostly survivors update (since 4 v 1) and some don't update their 0E

  • The Knight just came out. They probably need much more data before any buff can be considered. We wouldn't want a Thana situation where they hotfix the killer in a terrible way just because people were vocal about it.

On Nightlight, the killer's got a slightly subpar kill rate at the moment, and even though new killers might usually have the opposite, Knight is also harder to play. He's arguably the most "balanced" (and take that word with a huge grain of salt) a killer's come out, with an around 50% killrate on nightlight, the site being constituted of a better than average survivor demographic.

Maybe Knight really just needs a bugfix and time to learn how to play him.

    Maybe he does need buffs.

That's why they need a couple of months worth of data, in my opinion.

  • I was gonna say giving emotes to killers (or any role really) would give them more opportunity to BM (which breaks my heart since I love being friendly as killer and I would love more ways to interact with survivors), but yeah, this seems okay.

Maybe for the killers who have voice lines, they could say something like "A trinket for your life" or something !

The emote could be the killer leaning towards the survivor and holding their hand out to them to show they want something. =)

The exact opposite, actually. It's so they don't waste the majority of their chase time trying to get where they saw the Survivor. Say you're on the second floor of a building (Garden of Joy, for example) and a guard on ground level see you. If they immediately started chasing, their chase time would be nearly up by the time they can run through the house to get to you. It can also help in level areas with long obstacles too (long Ormond rocks, car stacks in Gas Heaven, etc.) where the guards would normally have to run all the way around.

The Jailer also benefits from this the most. Since he has the largest detection radius, that phase helps him close the distance with the Survivor quickly before starting his chase. Detecting Survivors from so far away would be a huge downside if he started his chase immediately; most of it would be gone by the time he gets to them.

    My bad then !

  • To give suvivors distance. The Guards are not supposed to down or injure survivors on their own consistently. They're more of a disruptive element to force survivors to lose time, if you're not using them to 2v1 the chase.

  • I love it from a character design standpoint

I hate it from everywhere else XD

  • While it is some very bad timing, I do believe that the devs are trying to make the game better. They're made steps this year to try and listen to the community and address problems and unpleasant things that had been in the game for many years.

And I don't think the community clowning on them is a very fair reaction to their efforts. No one wants to help a whiny, rude and entitled kid. If those commenters wants BHVR to care less about the game, they're on the right path.

Just ONE tile? Have they played the map or watched someone else do it?

I think what they mean by one tile is not "only one place on the map is affected" but "one type of tile (ex: jungle gym) is affected", and since this tile is present in multiple places on the map, there are much more pallets than there normally would. So only one tile is bugged, but it affects the whole map.

  • Being the most used perk doesn't make it more popular than before nerf. According to official stats, is usage dropped by half. According to Nightlight, it dropped by a little less than that (keeping in mind Nightlight users are usually higher skill on average than regular players).

It's not more popular than ever, and it doesn't need a nerf.

Also more generally, just because Otz makes an observation about one thing doesn't mean it needs to be adressed. I know people dub him a god, but good gracious...

What happened at twitter regarding Haddie?

Sorry, I live under a rock when it comes things on that platform...

If I remember correctly, some people from Haddie's origin and faith have felt disrespected by the lack of authenticity in her character design : few symbols from her heritage, missed opportunities, and moslty, she wears symbols that are a mismatch of several different Indian cultures instead of the one she's supposed to come from.

Basically, Haddie's design is like an undercover cop at pride. Fake trinkets and thoughtless association of symbols, that hopefully will make sense and make them seem legit.

  • Give my girl some more love and cosmetics !

I've been playing as her for a few weeks out of sheer spite. (Plus I actually do think she's really cool =D)

  • I for one am glad Fog Whisperers don't have a prime place in QA or balance tests. Most of them are very high skill and don't have the first idea what it's like to be a casual in this period. It's been a long, long time since they were low/mid mmr.

If they were the ones doing the balancing, everything would be balanced around the top, which is not a very viable model.

  • It's been a few hours only.

Some people are probably getting used to his power in customs, and not everyone will buy the chapter. Plus there's a bloodrush, so people will want to play with killers they're comfortable to get lots of bloodpoints on.

I don't think we should jump to conclusions so early. =)

  • Oh ! Not a huge fan, but I quite like that cosmetic !

The Knight's regular appearance takes me a bit out of immersion from how silly it looks on modern maps, but this one is much less "formal knight" if that makes sense, I feel like it will be a bit better already.

it really sucks that people are like this :( i like people seeing my name ingame, and i like seeing their names. it would also be fair, though, as you can't see the killers game before the round starts. it's not a bad idea at all for the same to apply to survivors.

    Hi again !

You're not supposed to comment on older threads, necroposting is frowned upon on the forums and will get deleted by the mods, most likely.

You're welcome to make new threads if you want to discuss a subject =)

  • The bots teabagging is the funniest thing to me. Similarly, teabagging bots is very fun as well ! You're spamming crouch making fun of them while they're on hook, and they're thinking "oh, what a nice survivor who came to rescue me ! Wait, are they trying to hide ? Good on them, being cautious is important, I can hang around a bit longer :D"

At least, that's how I imagined it when my friend was trying Knight out in PTB and we had fun in bot matches. xD

  • Looking forward to trying out the new flashlights. It still takes a certain timing to decide when to start runnig to get in front of killer and when to start the blind during the animation. So by no means it's free, at least to players who never used flashlights.

I think making the game a tad more casual-friendly is the good way to go.

  • I play super nice, but I do really like Third Seal. And it might have resulted in the premature death of many solos...

  • I think it's precisely too situational to warrant a nerf... If you're alive to see the gates being powered, and are doing a good job distracting killer at that, it's well deserved. Plus the health state is very good in chase, sure, but it's also nice to not have to reset with someone when you're doing pretty much anything at this time. Heal only when on hook would make the perk useless.

Plus, some perks completely bypass Adrenaline in that situation of "chase while last gen pops" : NOED, arguably Rancor, and Terminus (other exposed status perks exist but they're less consistent in their trigger). So it does have counters if one is really bothered by it. I think Terminus is a good "equivalent" because it is, too, a perk that can give you great value in endgame but that you're always reluctant to take because you won't reach endgame (or have survivors be injured before endgame) consistently.

So yeah, there are plenty of demoralizing situations on both sides, but that doesn't mean that the perks at the origin of the situations are necessarily unhealthy.

  • Not a long time player here, but here goes !

I've watched a friend stream DbD as both survivor and killer throughout 2021, without really understanding the game. During that same period, other friends were hounding me about playing it, and I'd always answer them the same thing, that I don't like pvp games.

I eventually accepted to buy the game when it was on sale for the anniversary this year, but only to play custom games between us.

But it seemed like a missed opportunity to not bathe in the bloodpoints fest of the event... so I relented and went with them to real games.

My first game, I was obliterated by a Trapper, who apologized for terminating me early in the game and gave a couple of advices.

Next game, a very good Nurse on Midwich notices I'm a baby and lets me practice my skillchecks without killing me, and gives me the escape.

First killer game, I'm completely lost on Midwich, and a survivor comes to guide me around.

I realized that even though the game is pvp and at times people are dumb and mean, there are also plenty of nice players, and I could live with that. =)

  • I'm not really into medieval stuff, so playing a knight was never a particular draw for me. =)

I'm not very fond of its esthetics in DbD, I respect that some people have wanted a medieval chapter for a long time, it's just not my thing. As for the mechanic, it has a lot of potential and I think it could be really cool, but not as it was implemented. I would have liked a killer that has a lot of map management (I do love Hag after all), but it seems like Knight won't be that as much as an antiloop killer.

  • Looking forward to the new map and to the new perks. The killer in itself I do not vibe with, but I knew that as soon as he was announced, so it's not a surprise =)

  • Looking at my mains-

Kate : no, you already have too many cosmetics

Legion : Literally the most cosmetics among killers

Hag : How do I make you goofy...?

Haddie : ... I'd like regular cosmetics first, then think about goofy ones X)

Excited to read what everyone thinks of though ! =D

  • Genuine question, but do such teams really count as bullying if there's no BM coming with it ?

I've run into a couple teams of these peculiar fellows when I was a newer killer, with sabos and Breakout and Boil Over, but they never seemed to be any meaner than your average survivor. I don't remember them teabagging or taunting me.

Then again, I usually have insane luck when it comes to going against cool survivors, so it might be that most teams with those builds BM and that I got lucky with those I met. Wouldn't be the first time something like that happened =D

  • @Brokenbones said:

    So from my understanding:

    • You're at 1 gen left, 3 survivors currently alive
    • Killer is chasing a dead on hook survivor while you have a hook state left in you (And your buddy is pressuring the final gen)

If that's the full situation, then yeah you were completely in the right to try. It didn't work out due to the Jake making mistakes but the idea was the correct one. With a bit more coordination, you could've wasted enough of his time to make sure the last gen got done and maybe one of you could get out.

The only flaw in your idea would be if the Killer slugged you and kept going for Jake (Which if I was the Killer, I would have) but Jake could've maybe made it to safety by that point or the last gen could've got done.

Let's imagine how it would've played out if you hadn't tried to help Jake - he probably would've went down quickly, been hooked - dead. Now it's 2 v 1 at 1 gen. All Killer has to do is keep an eye on the gens and slug one of you and victory is essentially guaranteed. He's also playing Doctor, a killer with an anti-stealth ability so good luck trying to stall out for hatch

You had the right idea and game sense, your teammate made mistakes and that's just how it is. Survivor mistakes are costly

    @AJStyIez said:

To apply the same ideology to another scenario: There's 3 seconds left on a playoff basketball game and I have the ball. I see you wide open next to me at the top of the key, I pass it to you instead of forcing a shot over two people. You miss the shot, In hindsight was that now the wrong play to make because you missed the shot?

No, no matter how it plays out that's still the correct play to make. You had no way of knowing a sandbag would happen whether accidental or on purpose. It would've worked

Thank you both for your input ! I feel very much vindicated.

As I said, my friend and I are quite casual and admittedly a bit too skittish when it comes to chases. We're trying to get a better game sense, and that's a lot of trial and error. I'm glad this was a good instinct to have, even if it did not pay off. Maybe in a future game it will.

Good luck to your next games =)

  • My cat has a very organised process to make me leave the computer.

She will first lay down on my desk, and playfully yank the mouse's wire randomly, making me change directions and bump into stuff.

Step two is progressively laying down on more and more of my keyboard.

If I take the keyboard away from her or push her away from it, then it's step three.

    Unplugging my whole screen. =)

  • Play the game normally, then hard stealth when you're on death hook. That way your team still has a decent chance of winning, and if they die, then you can get hatch. =)

I HIGHLY recommend using Fire Up as an "anti flashlight" perk. Considering how are gens flying nowadays, you gonna get a lot of value of the perk, and for the flashlights, it screws up the timing, so you can drive survivors insane xD

Lightborn? naaah, once they know you have it, they'll be glued to gens. Fire up will show them that they only screwed up the timing and have to try again and again and again xD nothing more enjoyable than watching their altruism kill them

I don't have Freddy, but if I ever get the perk I'll give it a try ! =)

I just bering Clairvoyance if I see what I suspect is a duo SWF with Flashlights. I mean I have been there, Flashlights with controller are hard, but I'm trying to practice Flashbangs saves. Yesterday i got my cleanest one yet against a Wraith saving Elodie and then she went down a few secs later. And when I got hooked I could see her self-care from the other end of the map😂

I've never learnt to use flashlights, in very low mmr they're like a beacon with "Please tunnel me !!" written in neon on it. At least, that's what I concluded after trying to bring them into games (not even actually using them...).

And I never really gave them the time of day since.

Now that the timing will be more forgiving, I might try and learn how to use them again. =)

  • That's exactly why I learnt not to bring Lightborn anymore when I see a lobby with 2-3 flashlights. They usually don't land a single save, and are overly altruistic.

I do commend them for wanting to learn how to use them though, it's a really fearsome item in the right hands.

  • I'll love to be able to play some custom games with my friends even if we're not 5 !

Also, I've been meaning to try my hand at Billy, but I really don't want to do it in public matches. Same for some derusting games when it's been a while that I haven't played this or that killer. =)

  • Lightborn is more than okay in my books !
