Interesting idea, but what happens if the sacrificed surv leaves the trial? Does a bot take over when revived?

Yeah I think that would work out fine having a bot take over.

  • Woohoo! 🎁🎉

    Thank you! 😊

Dang that’s frustrating. Ugh, can you at least play Killer against bots? Either way I’m sorry for your troubles. I agree with a lot of people here that if your internet situation can’t improve then you'll have to play like one game every two days or something.

I hope you have other games to enjoy. If you like scary I recommend The Evil Within. Hopefully things get better. Take care.

    Ormond*

I believe they get smarter with hiding it. We probably need to meet a certain condition for it to show. Like in the Midwich, where you have to activate and make EGC last to maximum. It can also be shown in a certain time interval in the game. Like the beginning of the match, the ending of the match or even more difficult: x minutes and y seconds into a game which lasts for z seconds. Anything is possible.

    I’m getting Zombies EE flashbacks.

2k, 3k or 4k? 20000 bloodpoints? Anything other than Entity Displeased/Hungers? 8 hooks, 12 hooks? When do you tell yourself "Yes, I won this match."?

Personally? Every match is a win for me. No matter if it is a 4K or 4E since I’m always entertained that it plays out like a scary story/movie.

The community at large? It seems like a 3K is what is considered a Killer win.

  • It’d be nice if each stage was designed in a way that gave its home Killer some kind of small advantage.

One game that still haunts me. I was the last survivor and Piggy intercepted me trying to open the gate. She let me do it, and I bobbed once to thank her, then ran out. Just before I exited I looked around and she was crouching forward, clearly waiting for a boop. I tried to halt but it was too late. I could see her shaking her head sadly at the ground as my character left. I'm console so couldn't apologise in endgame. She let me leave but I denied her a boop.

This story would be a perfect in the Dbd Confessionals. Even better that @Nun_So_Vile has a pig pfp 😂

I think they should aim to boost morale. Hear me out.....

Their should be a party table inside every exit gate with a prompt to "have a seat" so survivors can celebrate in style when they survivor.

  • I actually love current Dbd but I still can’t forget the days of old Coldwind, being basement camped by Insidious Wraith using Monstrous Shrine, while watching my teammates get hook grabbed one by one trying to save me… Lmao. From a horror POV I never played anything like it at the time. It was wildly entertaining no matter what happened to me in the trials.

Nothing has changed in my enjoyment however. For me every match still feels like a pulse-pounding scary movie.

I don't think so. For every killer that deliberately doesn't tunnel with it, there'll be 5 who never give up a chase on a Survivor because they're dead on hook or whatever.

As much as I selfishly want this so 8 hooking is easier, I have to agree. I’m afraid it would increase tunneling. Which is something I personally do not mind, but I do acknowledge the reality of how much others dislike it.

Wouldn’t it be something if showing hook states resulted in less tunneling?

I understand a lot of the comments on this thread.

For me personally, I have a lot of mixed thoughts. For the first year of the game, I was purely a soloQ player though I gradually made a lot of in-game friends, we had never had the opportunity to chat to each other (Nintendo Switch has zero communication options) and I didn’t even think of methods to reach out that I had now (downloading the PS and Xbox apps to find players I play with - this came later).

My first year in the game being oblivious and ignorant, it was an incredibly isolating, lonely and frustrating period when I felt I was constantly tunnelled and subjected to be and had nobody to share the feelings with. But having my in-game friends, who I’d never spoken to, their acts of kindness during matches - just someone caring enough to unhook me and heal me, do a little pirouette for me at load in etc used to fill me absolute joy and make me want to keep playing.

My biggest problem is that I have a strong sense of justice but lack the skill and ability to deliver the justice which can be one of the most frustrating things ever.

Through a series of incredible coincidences, I managed to catch a few wow my long-term in game friends on someone’s twitch stream and from there were created a discord server which now contains almost all our regular in-game friends. The purpose of it is not to form hit squads or whatever, but purely to be able to chat with each other and anecdotally entertain each other and provide stress relief.

Honestly, I would have given up long ago on DBD were it not for the heroes and wonderful people I play with - who are survivors and killers so has given me a lot of appreciation for both sides though I only play one (I’ve mentioned before but I cannot play First person view games).

My solemn wish is to one day gain the skill to help protect those who I play with and to be a less liability. That is and always will be my motivation.

Noble aspirations and precious experiences ☺️

It sounds like the high stakes nature of the game has given you a resolve to improve for others. It’s all just so fascinating how differently we all confront this phenomenon.

The edge is the “Us vs Them” divide this community has and it’s even affected me. If you say ”Pain Rez was fine at 25%” you’ll have a thousand comments calling you an entitled brain dead killer main. Just like if you thought MFT was fine you’d ignite a firestorm of replies.

Too many people don’t play the other side and honestly should not be speaking about the games balance. It’s easy for me to ignore survivor problems because I think they are overblown until I go into solo queue lobbies and get tunneled, slugged and humped for looping for more than 5 seconds.

The replies on these forums are a perfect example, every single thread is people fighting each other and trying to make underhanded remarks while trying not to get caught doing it. And nobody cares about the actual facts of anything it’s really just about how they feel. Killers have trash kill rates and get buffed and people complain. Solo Queue has low escape rates so they get an info hud and people complain.

The “Us vs Them” cycle honestly needs to end but this community won’t let it happen ever. I’m so tired of seeing “killer sided update” “survivor sided game” and so on. This community frankly is exhausting sometimes. It doesn’t have to be this way, we could change it; and I hope we do.

I hope we do too. I can see how the “edge” of this game comes from the two… “gangs” that have risen up around both roles. The BM in this game can feel so personal that I think it’s one of the underlying reasons for the us vs them existing in this game.

    @UndeddJester said:

To me it comes across as a power/responsibility problem.

As an exanple of what I mean, The C++ programming language is a very powerful tool, that let's you get VERY close to the hardware if you want to, and also allows you to basically do whatever you want with memory locations and alike... however with the power to do that, there is much more responsibility in a language like C++ compared to Java or Python that abstract things away from you.

In C++, whatever you tell the compiler to do, it'll do it, no questions asked, and no matter how stupid it is; to point we have a C++ saying "never take take away the users ability to shoot themselves in the foot". Having that power means to get low level means you should be responsible with what you do there.

DBD is like C++; there is an undeniable personal relationship between killer and survivor, allowing both players to get pretty low level and get a really good look at each other. As such, whichever side loses each exchange, it hits closer to the bone than a lot of other games... and DBD is built in a way where you have a LOT of power and freedom to decide how you play and do whatever you want... which obviously also allows you to be as toxic as you want...

I don't think DBD iz more toxic than any other online game I've ever played.... but it's definitely a more raw human experience than any other game I've ever played... and I think a responsible player is mindful of just how personal DBD can be.

Wow. What a powerful comparison. Wow yeah 100% agree. Each role has power. And that power in this game can be abused in ways that feel highly raw from a human experience. It makes you wonder sometimes about the role of stewardship of that power… What a fantastic comment.

    @SunaIIanu said:

I'm not sure if I understood you post correctly, but I do think that cruelty can be motivating in the sense of "I don't want this person to get away with their behaviour" and I could also imagine that a particular cruel game might elicit a response like "this will not happen to me again". I'm not sure if that would push some to play better or just sweatier though. But I don't think that cruelty has a motivating factor for everbody.

For me personally, if I encounter cruelty it can be the reason to stop playing for the day, especially when it's something like a bleedout, that the Devs could have fixed years ago. I've played dbd for years, but have relativly few hours for this time, because I need frequent breaks and I think cruelty is one of the reasons for that.

Yes you definitely understood what I was trying to say 😊

This “edge” feels so sharp that it’s double-sided doesn’t it? Experiences so intense that sometimes it inspires resolve and other times it encourages checking-out. It’s been fascinating to read all of these different perspectives. Thank you so much for contributing.

  • @Rulebreaker said:

We maybe missing the point so if so ignore us.

To answer the question, it kinda does. People who experience "cruelty" either try and get better to not experience that again (or bad case scenario inflict it on others) or leave and say F it. Outta a sense of ego, fear, whatever, but it does motivate people to do one or the other.

We feel it doesn't have an "edge" by default but can because this game is very open in what players can do (for its type). The evils of free will as this free reign allows this "cruelty" in the first place along with the other good and bad that comes with.

I never thought about the “edge” coming from the sheer degrees of freedom but I think you’re right. To me it’s a fascinating social experiment. But I do feel for the people that legitimately get frustrated.

    @Vorahk08 said:

I really like what you said about being grateful to other players. I feel like, when I make an effort to remember that every other player in the match is a person, I feel like I play the game in a healthier mindset.

For the question about cruelty, I believe that cruelty does increase the stakes of a trial, but not in a good way. I think the trial becomes more personal and hurtful, to the point where, like you said, it can deter someone from playing at all.

Maybe it varies from person to person. Some of us might lean into a more "passionate" approach and enjoy the "edge" while also being less tempted to anger and toxicity, while others might lean into a more "chill" approach, with the "edge" hindering them more than helping, so they try to detach from the "edge" altogether. It takes all kinds to make a community.

Overall, I feel like I try to remain detached from the "edge," because I feel like it's not worth the feelings of anger and toxicity that it can invite. Learning to play both roles in a calmer, more self-reflective way has led to me enjoying the game much more, and becoming better at both roles.

What a beautiful comment. I agree with everything you’ve written 100%.

It really does take effort to remember that the other players are other humans sitting in some chair, a couch, the edge of a bed, having a shared experience with you from their own perspective. It’s hard not to want to give everyone the best time on the server when this awareness is made real.

The ways in which this game feels personal are very intense. I mean, even a Killer and Survivor will come to intuitively “know” each other just by who is or isn’t dominating the mind games. Thank you for your wonderful comment 💐

    @crogers271 said:

On topic, the examples listed, I think accomplish the opposite. Toxicity takes away from the games edge, it doesn't add to it.

That edge you talk about only is achieved when the game is moving along, both sides racing to accomplish their objectives. I find DbD incredibly intense, especially when I'm in situations where I'm on death hook and there is one gen to go, escape is a possibility, but far from guaranteed. The fact that as a survivor you can lose at the very end makes it incredibly exciting.

Toxic behaviors are just boring. If I hit a killer that is just bleeding people out (not slugging for a strategic purpose, but in such a dominant position he can bleed everyone out), its boring. The other side of this is survivors either just waiting by the exit gates to tbag or bully squads not even trying to do gens. Neither situation is exciting, its just dull.

The toxic behaviors almost made me quit the game when I first started until I saw the piece of advice to have something else to do when playing DbD. It's one of the worst criticisms I have of DbD, that the game is much more fun if you have another game, something to read, etc. ready to go in case you get put in a situation where the excitement disappears and you're trapped in a pointless, dull situation.

I completely respect that. It’s difficult to reconcile how early elimination raises the stakes while also keeping the game feeling fun and fair to all involved. It’s even harder to reconcile when toxic behaviors emerge as a result of this system.

Honestly they just need to make it not a hex itself so it can’t be cleansed. Then it’s just a flat “totems take longer” basically. Maybe I’m asking too much but I don’t think the notification on totem touch would be too much either.

Yeah definitely. There’s so much more that can be done with totems. And crows while we’re at it. I took a long break right after Pyramid Head came out (Blight was the first Killer I missed) and then came back right as Skull Merchant was released. It still confuses me why the Artist’s power doesn’t use the crows in some way.

And yet y'all never have a clue why those stats are what they are. It's bad, deceptive data.

I wonder about KR too. It feels possible that tweaking mmr can influence KR right? Like if every Survivor team spawns 1 expert, 2 intermediate, and 1 novice, a 60% KR may be easy to achieve. But maybe if you make the mmr put 2 experts on a team you can make the KR 50% or something.

  • I like the idea but iri shards are so tricky to give out since they’re basically free money. On one hand of course the player base should be rewarded for their time. On the other hand though imagine giving everyone enough iri shards for one of the better costumes, so much money would be lost like that. At the end of the day it takes a steady flow of money to create a steady flow of content. Maybe at like prestige 50 you get a badge of the person you are prestiging and then at p100 you get the banner or something.

  • Okay actually… Maybe I NEED Scully and Mulder in the game…

In high level gameplay where the Survivors are both good at looping and be efficient on gens, playing Killers without mobility built-in is very difficult to get a win with. It's sad that we no longer seem to be able to make new Killers without some form of teleport, or fast speed ability to get across the map, to be viable in high level gameplay. Because gens fly by so fast, really no matter if the Killer is efficient in pressure and chases.

It's been like this for a long time, but the game keeps getting more competitive and sweaty for each new year. And that means this problem will get bigger and bigger.

This makes coming up with unique Killer designs more and more restrictive, because you always gotta keep that in mind.

I think we will no longer see type of Killers like Trapper, Clown, Bubba, Deathslinger, Huntress, Trickster and Ghostface. Which might be good because today's standard is different and has to be met with different solutions. But many people like to play with simple powers and not have that many things in your kit. If you are a high level player you can't really play with those simple powers if you want to win.

But it's insane how much this game has changed over the years. I don't think the game should be balanced around high level gameplay, I think it should somehow be balanced so everyone can play and have a good time. But we can't forget the players who play at a high level, where seconds spent doing something can be the reason you lost.

I'm not really sure what I really wanted to say with this thread but yeah. Just some random thoughts.

I’d love for the devs to challenge themselves by creating another Killer that is as slow as the Nurse or even slower.

That sounds like normal gameplay if you want a chance to escape though at mid MMR and above. It's also why I strategically slug a lot as Killer (my downs are normally double my amount of hooks) as if one person is unhooking and one person is picking up a slug gen progress is stopped for a short time while I set back gen progress. (And my chase skills and meta strategy don't atrophy)

If you can't keep at least one survivor on gens at all times it'll probably be a 4K. That's why I think it's so hard to define; it's practically a requirement at mid MMR and above to keep a hand on gens at all times to stand a good chance of a 4E (unless MMR has completely dropped the ball and mismatched a Killer with new chase skills against experienced survivors or a tunneling and proxy camping Killer has just reached an MMR where their reliance on tunneling and camping stunted their chase skills enough they're now at the point where all the Survivors are better at chase than the Killer).

Yeah this makes a lot of sense. I think I am a low mmr Killer so yeah, it tracks. Also when I play Survivor I feel that I personally play sweaty if I make sure there are no gen “lapses” I guess is how I want to say it.

But anyways, that’s my personal definition lol

Just to clarify to ensure I am not misinterpreting your point, are you saying in your opinion that if 1 person is on a gen at all times it is considered gen-rushing? I can’t help but ask how progress should be made without at least one person being on a gen.

At all times meaning without lapse. As in if a Killer scares a Survivor off of a gen, somewhere another gen is always being done. At all times, under any condition there is a gen being repaired. There is never a time not even once in the match (except for the beginning) where all four survivors are doing something other than at least one of them being on a gen.

Idk does that help clarify it a little bit? Like the match never has a moment where no generators are being worked on (except at the beginning), not even for like 5 seconds.

  • It’s a question with many different answers.

I know that I personally feel that I myself am gen rushing when I make it a point to always be on a generator no matter what. Making sure that at least one gen is being repaired at all times no matter what.

I've had this happenplaying both sides during the event

It’s happened to me on Survivor too, but suspiciously only when I do good against the Killer. The server shuts down and then me AND the Killer both get 0 BP. And again, my items are usually reimbursed 1-2 games later. Plus I never get a DC penalty when whatever it is kicks me out of the game.

But before I have had it happen as well when im winning maybe the servers can't handle too many downs and hooks sometimes?

If it actually isn’t cheating then that’s what I think it might be, too many actions for the server probably.

Apparently there's a cheat or an exploit where survivors can make the killer disconnect from the game. As a killer main this happens to me at least once a week. In fact it just happened to me like 10 mins ago that's why I'm posting this.

I notice that whenever survivors can't handle me as a killer they start to act weird then a few seconds later i get disconencted mid chase then it says "the server disconnected" and everyone has a disconnected icon but I receive 0 bloodpoints yet the survivors receive between 5000 to 15000 bloodpoints.

Like my last game we were in RPD. I was using Wraith and I got 2 hooks in less than 2 mins of chase. Suddenly the 2 survivors I hooked started acting weird. The Sable started going in out of lockers giving me non stop sound notifications. The Jill started following me around hoping to take hits. After I hooked these 2 for the 2nd time I started chasing a different survivor. Just as I was about to hit that survivor the game froze then I got disconnected from the match.

I know for a fact that my internet is not the issue. I have a consistent 800 mbps speed. I'm also not experiencing any lags whatsoever in these games that I get disconnected from. It's always the same pattern. Whenever I get fast downs and hooks someone starts acting weird then I get disconnected from the match.

I play Killer a lot and this happens to me almost once a day, sometimes twice a day. The reason that I agree with you and suspect foul play is because it never happens when I’m alone or losing. It only only only ever happens when I have a snowball going on. Could it still be server issues? It could be but I’m still very suspicious.

Edit: I lose my add ons and offerings when this happens but then like a game or two later they reappear in my inventory. I haven't verified if BP also gets reimbursed or not.

I like it when the killer leaves hooks wide open, I get comfy thinking they're playing nice, and then Devour Hope pops up.

I like having hooks left wide open, it's very polite, but variety is the spice of life and all.

    You understand. 🦠💐

  • Thanks for the answers everyone. I appreciate them all. Okay so question:

From a Survivor POV, does the game feel more fun when the Killer leaves hook wide open? Or is it more fun if you don’t know whether the Killer may or may not come back to hook? I mean, different things for different people for sure. But I do still wonder what players prefer.

When I’m playing Killer I tend to leave the hook massively unguarded. It conditions the Survivor team into thinking unhooks are safe. Unless I’m really trying to play mind games with the Survivors I never cash in on it. But I do sometimes wonder, do any of these Survivors find it boring that I’m pretty much giving free unhooks?

My point with that comment is that it's a lose lose. If you run the hard meta, people complain you're running hard meta, and if you don't run hard meta, you're swiftly reminded why those perks are hard meta.

Yes that’s true. You have to pick the lesser of the two evils. One thing I have learned is that you can’t please the whole player base so imo the lesser evil is to just play how you like.
