As far as I am aware, they aren't planning on implementing anything else? They only "BAN" for disconnects if they are "excessive", only. Doing less than that is apparently okay.
I think they need to stop their "ban" approach. And punish every time someone disconnects. Be it with gradual timeouts/hit them with rank rewards punishments etc. Harsh, but not too harsh for those that actually disconnect on accident. Which they claim they can already tell on that. So, I think finding a way to punish (not ban) every time it happens, should be do able.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/104344/camping-needs-a-harsher-punishment
- As many other commenters have stated, it really is too easily abusable to add an in-game punishment for camping. I think the best way to discourage it further is to remove bloodpoints post-trial for being within a certain radius of the hook for too long. Adding in-game stun/entity progression speed slowdown would just lead to survivors looping around the hook like headless chickens. The stun would make this even worse, as if a survivor goes to the hook to loop, you have two choices: either drop chase and let them score a free unhook, or loop it and eat a random stun from the hook, where they will probably rescue, and if you down/pick up the unhooked person you'll likely eat a decisive as well.
- Ruin is so meta because survivors have 1 singular objective: to hold m1 and survive. Looping is easy enough nowadays due to bad map design. So killers enjoy punishing survivor's other objective, gens. This gives them more time to kill the survivors. I hate running it and facing it, but until we see map/objective changes, it'll be a part of your games for a long time to come.
Giving a free stun to survivors is not my idea or intention. Under specific set rules and guidelines as well as maybe a downside or negative towards the survivor that uses it, would be. And stun duration doesn't need to be as long as "normal" stuns. If survivor is in area = killer isn't camping. So, cannot use the stun idea perk. Killer would have to be considered camping most likely due to X amount of time, as well as X distance. Not initiating chases with other survivors etc. If it can't be tweaked to avoid abuse, such as how DS is used, then there is no point to it.
Perhaps, not thinking of it as a stun, but a minor shield protection to the person doing the save? Maybe it could be changed into a "change" one survivor gives his life to save, while he gets hooked instead? Giving the killer a body and the survivor can get some play time in the game?
The goal is to give survivors a way to "counter" or at least benefit in some way. As rank, and bloodpoints etc get effected.

What about altruistic hook divers or swf or egc camping the killer can't just leave the hook since it's just a free unhook and a free escape at some times with that perk your going to take the stun or the survivor is going to escape there is no real in between with this either not to mention borrowed time exists so that on top of a stun on top of ds sounds really unfun already
hook divers? If they rush in the perk can't kick in. Even with the killer there, it would need X amount of time of camping. I don't see how SWF would effect it, as the killer would need to be X amount of range as well. If a survivor is in the area also, that means the killer isn't camping at that point... so it shouldn't be able to be used etc. At EGC, I don't know? That seems more understandable to be camping in the first place. Maybe it won't even work once that goes. But again the stun duration doesn't need to be the same duration as a normal stun. -- Also, maybe the survivor using it can not move for the same time it is going off? That'd be interesting. And also, maybe the only way in order to use it, you have to be the one unhooking etc. So, that teammates like SWF can't just sit nearby and ready their own up, (you can't all use it). It has to be for a specific set purpose.

Yeah, but the tune is different when there is no one around, killer can instadown you, and is basically sucking on your knee caps with how close they are. There needs to be a fix for this, and a good one.
Yeah. And I hope they do add/change something about this as well. And actual camping isn't fun for a survivor. For me I played to get bloodpoints... with matchmaking it takes FOREVER to get into a game sometimes, and to top it off once you find one, you just get facecamped, from the start.... you're lucky to get like 3k BPs. It would be nice to get some bloodpoints, like if they consider it like a "chase" you are occupying the killers time, and BP adds up, like if you are being straight up facecamped. It's not fun in the slightest, and people know it. Giving some sort of way to actually "play" the game, compensation, or even a way to even remotely counter this, would be something.
The problem is with some of it, is trying to balance it. Like they did with DS, that has "loopholes" if you will, which is also not fun. You need to try to be fair as possible. I can't quite think of a way to give a hooked person "something" to sort of do, while they are up there. Like maybe if you are being facecamped, you can initiate a 5th perk slot.... Kindred lol... I don't know. Some change regarding this topic would be nice.
The "counter" is just do gen's. But realistically, you can't do 4-5 gens with out a "rush" build, like toolboxes etc, and even with one, you have to consider transitions to the next gen. I have a hard time seeing 4-5gens..... I could be wrong. I mean you have 3 people doing gens, while one survivor is dying. So, at most 3 can be going at once from the start of it... ( I don't have the times on that). Not everyone brings those. Like sure yes you can do gens, but it would be nice to have some sort of "counter" even if it is very minimal.
I'm sort of surprised they made camaraderie a perk, I mean, instead of maybe having that initiate from just being facecamped.
-
I'd like to also point out that the definition of camping does get "cloudy". Like killer being around the hook with survivors obviously in the area, or chasing a survivor etc. Stuff like that isn't actually camping, nor should it punish the killer in my opinion. You'd have to take into account these things when thinking of punishments etc.
-

??? I'm surprised you haven't thought of how that wouldn't be abused
A lot of things have potential to be "abused".
But for instance, if the killer is standing in certain proximity let's say full on face-camping. They stand there for a certain period of time before the ability can even take place. This limits the idea of someone going in for the hook and killer chasing them, or survivors running the killer TO the hook, in order to use said perk etc. Because obviously, that is something that would be done quite often.
Example: Decisive Strike. Supposed to be anti-tunneling. What do some do? Specifically go in front of the killer in order to get hit or drag them to a locker just to try to use it. - This "abuse" should be adjusted in my opinion as well.
Anyways, just a thought. The length of stun could also vary, might not be as long even.
-
What if the dev's made a perk. That if the killer is camping or in a certain range of a hooked person, the survivor can "use" it, and create a stun like effect on the killer.
-
Ah, thank you for the clarification.
This sort of thing happened in another game I was apart of .... Instead of allowing that stuff to go on, they made it free pretty much immediately and put a complete stop to it, before it ever took off.
-
I thought they were free? I'm confused?

People want some kind of punishment for people who dc, and I do get it, it affects teammates and the killer but there are so many issues with banning people. The option to suicide on hook is an alternative option of DC'ing. Having the "Leave" button removed won't do anything, they can simply close the game, boot up the game and then search a game. The best solution is to not "Ban" the DC player (of course the DC player will lose rank progression) but to reward the remaining players by giving more bps.
Personally. I think disconnect should be punished, in some form(s).
And there will always be ways around "disconnecting", for reasons like you said. But why make it easier with having the "leave" button there? To further add to disconnecting reasons, in real life emergency or something came up etc. Things happen. But it effects others regardless, and that needs to be addressed from the dev's.
There are several solutions that I can think of. Copying from IDV, a moral system. Also, having rank rewards implemented (which they claimed are "in the works") that will punish those who leave or ditch games, but not too harsh if it was a true disconnect (like loss of connection etc). Handing out timeouts, which can grow exponentially etc. Something that builds up over time, but also allowing people to "earn" points back.
Also, allowing people that are actually playing the game to not be hindered by those who choose not to play. Like more safety pips-- (Frankly, I think the system needs to be reworked). Like I personally hate this emblem system. To me it does not determine someone's actual skill level in game. And this is how people that are red rank players end up in green ranks and so forth.
Once they actually implement rank rewards, I don't think de-ranking will be as prevalent. But match-making needs to also be addressed (the dev's constantly change how match-making works behind the scenes and don't tell us). That only just makes it hard on players to realize what is actually going on or wrong with the game, some feel they can only get matches in a certain rank because of this. -- And if its a matter of too many people on one side playing and matchmaking is slower, a game like IDV actually tells and communicates that to the player, and suggests changing sides. Just a thought. Communicating with the player base letting them know of in progress changes and what not.... can actually be beneficial.. Just saying.
Random thought... lore wise.. the entity doesn't actually want to kill people??? I didn't know that.
lust in anticipation of the sacrifice, a bizarre ritual through which The Entity extracts its sustenance
Like the current emblem system just doesn't fit in.... in my opinion.
Anyways, currently if anyone leaves, you are out of luck as killer to rank up, period. Doesn't matter how well you play or your skill level. The only thing that matters is someone rage quitting or not, that to me is not a true test of YOUR personal skill level. It just isn't.
I just find it distasteful to implement game mechanics and turn around saying, "Oh we will ban if you use that feature.." (And not even being all that forthcoming about it either) Instead of just, Oh.. I don't know..., fixing that feature. *shrug*
-
Instead of just wanting to grab pitchforks and ban people for disconnecting. Perhaps the dev's can simply take away the leave button?
Thinks
I mean seriously. I don't understand how people are okay with having things actually implemented into the game... game mechanics... that if you do them, allows you to just be banned or instant-banned...And sometimes you don't even know it's bannable offense! Does that make sense to anyone? Because that happens quite a bit with this game... People are//have been getting banned for using in game mechanics... eh..
I don't get it. Let's say the dev's actually decide to start banning disconnects... you hit leave. Boom you are banned. You do it however many times and it's permanent... Why hit leave? Why even have the leave option? It makes no sense to me at all. You are essentially just banning your own self.
I really think taking away all bannable offenses would be the best idea. One, no one gets banned. Two, people can't do bannable stuff! (at least not as easily and things could be implemented to reduce negative effects of such things).
Yay!..?
Ex: Why are people upset with disconnecting? Because it effects teammates negatively with 3v1 (2v1 etc) -- To make matters further worse, you get a game like that and guess what? You are stuck back waiting in another lobby for who knows how long in order to actually try to play and enjoy the game. It also messes with emblems and ranking, especially for killers etc. All that could be addressed... But instead it gets ignored. And what is more important to implement? Micro-transactions.... Maybe in a few more years, it will be properly addressed. *shrug*
-
As long as they don't disconnect "excessively", it is fine. You can even admit to DC'ing and it's fine. As long as it's not excessive. If they disconnect excessively, the system is automated to ban them.
-
I read someone posted earlier about their speed being wrong, and they ended up getting banned.. so ... who knows.
-
It's on the dev's to change it.
My suggestion is raise/higher the punishments given out, but lessen the severity of punishment aka no bans. I.E. remove the ban dc'ers, but punish in other immediate ways. one DC = immediate punishment, more dc = grows accumulating form of punishment.
Supposedly people do it to De-rank... when rank rewards come out, don't allow them rewards. etc.
Higher Q times for them, can't join again until a period of time goes by (no more fast matching to get in another game). Etc.
Just some ideas. I don't think banning is necessary, but other things can be done to hurt/points/rank/time of the disconnecting person. Along with not allowing disconnecting in the first place from a game.

That option is there for a reason, for example if you get held hostage you have a way to leave the match.
The issue is not the option, but the abuse of it.
@Peanits said:
I can ensure you that the quotes they're talking about are being taken horribly out of context and being twisted. The rule is (and always has been) that excessive disconnects lead to a ban. This is still true. If they are disconnecting from every Spirit match, they will almost definitely be banned for disconnecting excessively.
@Rizzo said:

What you are quoting has been taken out of context from a Custom Game, during a Tournament with its own rules.
As I already said we do not approve or encourage DCing, there's a system to punish it and I'd like to remind you that the servers are still in a testing phase, until they are not on every platform, they won't be considered live, so you can't expect to have a new system ready and implemented.
@JiggleWiggle There's an escalation process, from a week ban to a permaban, you can find all the information you need in this thread:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/19450/game-rules-and-report-system
What you are quoting has been taken out of context from a Custom Game, during a Tournament with its own rules.
I feel that the problem is much bigger than a "custom game" that was livestreamed via TwitchRivals event. It is and has been livestreamed pretty much daily, in non-custom game matches.
The rule is (and always has been) that excessive disconnects lead to a ban.
If excessive dc's lead to a ban, then by definition non-excessive dc's are not banned and in essence are permitted. I'm unsure of what is being taken out of context.
Further, people can technically say, "I will DC from all Spirit games, as long as its not excessive", and be accurate. I.E. If they play a lot and have limited or non-excessive amounts of games with spirits and possibly over a certain period of time (if that's how it adds it as well).
I suggest coming up with an alternative to banning, stop disconnecting from being possible. Such as add a surrender feature, when rank rewards come out more punishment type things, time outs.. etc.
I don't think people should be banned or perm-banned. But the issue needs to be fixed/addressed, much better than it is now. Because frankly, it is okay to DC non-excessively, which is causing people several problems, i.e. fun or emblems/ranking etc. And I believe their are options out there, that doesn't need to result in bans (if they even occur through the "loopholes"), and can make people not "DC" and not be held hostage/waste time.
-
If someone is "Mori canceling" on you, you will still continue to bleed out on the floor. For some reason that (built in game mechanic btw) is bannable... Which doesn't make much sense to me... as people can do exactly this. Wait for you to slowly bleedout on the floor. And to make it worse is if they pick you up, drop and repeat. To extend it just ever so slightly longer. As long as the countdown continues it's not holding the game hostage. It's kind of like how EGC now helps with survivors not holding the game hostage when they wouldn't leave. (Survivors weren't banned for this, pre-EGC.)
It would be nice if they had a surrender option. They said they would be adding husks, why not for this as well.
There's no reason to extend the game further when it's over. Isn't that the reason that the last person alive can't try to escape from the hook, when it is their first hook? It's like "what is the point" ... So, what is the point of this?
-
If people disconnect "excessively" they will get banned by the automated in game system that they have in place. If they disconnect and do not get banned then they have not been disconnecting excessively.
-
Supposedly, the automated "excessive DC" counter only counts when you hit the "leave" button from a game. Not internet connection loss, or game crashes. etc.

The game has been hovering around the 2k mark for a year now. There will always be ebbs and flows, but there is no greater trend of it dropping. In fact, the bigger trend is it's growing. 2018 the average was closer to 12k than 20k.
Wasn't last month when they released the demogorgon? Stranger things hype and all. I think the + correlates to the DLC's dropping. Not sure.

Seems like it. That update post came what, friday? and from the sounds of it they were no closer to fixing the problems. They don't work on weekends and no way would they have gotten the issues fixed by today, which means no update tomorrow.
They're also doing a Q and A stream this week, so i doubt they'd drop the update later in the week either. I'd wish I'd be wrong, but.. its BHVR.
They said they pushed back the Q and A stream because they are busy fixing the bugs, so they won't be doing the stream until after for sure. There's no real date on their next stream, as far as I am aware any more. It was supposed to be this week. But may not be if they cannot get the update out and the bugs fixed.
It's basically all just a waiting game. AFAIK

I've not seen ANY source for this claim. As far as the dev's have said, in the update link that was posted above and is at the top of the forums, there is no release date. They are trying to fix the bugs and get it out ASAP. But the duration of the event will remain the same.

To clear up some confusion. The delay is from bugs and issues that were found from the PTB. As Peanits mentioned in other threads.
@[Deleted User] said:

Those stupid rumors happen to be from reliable sources that are known to leak photage of new content coming to the game weeks ahead in advance since Dead By Daylight came out. Also power outages effect electronics in different ways. For all you know, the kind of hardware/software Behaviour uses isn't foolproof to stuff like power outages. Unless they mention otherwise.
They did mention otherwise. And made it clear that from the PTB, they found issues with the the update which caused the delay. As they could not fix them in time.
You pretty much answered your own question. We ran the PTB, collecting info on some of the known issues (and found some new ones), and we're now trying to get those fixed. Fixing issues takes time, it's not always as simple as changing a few lines of code. Beyond that, you need to figure out what is causing the issue in the first place (the PTB helps narrow this down greatly).
Again, it's unfortunate, we don't like to be in this position either, but this is what the PTB is for. Had we released the update with those bugs still in the game, you'd have people asking why we bothered with the PTB if we weren't going to fix the bugs that were reported.
Quote from Peanits. Found here : https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/784123#Comment_784123
Nothing about the power outage had an effect. Other than perhaps slowing their fixing/progress on it? Unless, ofcourse.. They said otherwise. I've not seen the sources you are referring to. @December_1863 linked where they also said they found issues from the PTB. The outage didn't specifically cause issues or bugs to occur. (at least per what the dev's have said). And they didn't really say if it had much impact? But I could be mistaken, I don't know the source to know more about that aspect.

It is a bit harder when you don't have the perks. Best thing is to try to play a lot and save shards up for perks that come in the shrine. (store). Every week it will rotate new perks. Honestly, I think what helped me was watching streamers on twitch, and youtubes on advice. How to loop as killer, etc. There's one from scott jund that is really good. Teaches you all the tiles. That will help you get through even not having any perks. There's some really good educational streamers out there. Like Otzdarva and Fungoose (both on twitch).
For perks, I don't know, there's always the "meta" ones. But I think it depends also on your play style. So, focus on leveling up and getting bloodpoints to unlock the perks you want. Then you can focus on ranking later on, or it most likely will come a bit naturally as well. Once you get the hang of dealing with things. Making sure not to tunnel a good looper. Focus on map pressure. etc.
-
Ya, usually survivors its pretty good to near instant. There have been rare times it feels like a killer Q tho.... but that is more rare, for me personally to experience.
-
It's incredibly frustrating. Not sure if it's considered playing a game at that point.
Ranks can vary too. Sometimes red ranks are fast... sometimes they take so long you might as well play survivor. It's always been all over the place. Also, events/time of day/region. All factor in. If I get a game before 10minutes I am lucky. Sometimes it's waiting 20-30~ minutes and I am alt tabbed out doing other things in the meantime... You'll see streamers playing another game while waiting... lmao. It is what it is, sadly.
But ya. They are "fine tuning" it. So. There's that.
Regardless, you are not alone...
-
Disconnecting is bannable. if they do it too much it will auto ban them. However, you can also send in a report in game.
Hopefully in the future disconnects can force a safety pip, so it doesn't hurt those that care about their ranks.
-
Really nice idea's here!

I think things should stick to their own meaning. So, it doesn't confuse anyone and become deceitful from what it actually is.
-
@yandere777 Try hitting the "Flag" button. Works better.
Disconnecting is not okay, no matter what.
Most of all, it should NOT affect your rank. It's not a skill based ranking system if someone can literally NOT play the game and that is your opponent, and them NOT playing, lowers YOUR rank.(You... the person trying to actually play..).. That makes no sense what so ever.. lol. Vice versa, and that makes way more sense (aka you not playing the game, means you won't get a good rank etc). They need to change how the emblems work. Forcing a safety or re-working the emblems to fit those in the match (it's been mentioned elsewhere several times over) etc. Something needs to change.
For all those annoyed with the add-ons they mentioned re-working it in the future. Wait and see I guess.
-
Knowing that it is basically the same event as last year, however they are trying to monetize from it more... It's eh... And because they are trying to profit more from it, that is the reason for the delay....ehhhh... ( AKA There would be no delay if they weren't trying to profit more.)
But sure. Like some have mentioned.... other games are not filled with bugs and are having their Halloween events right now. It's quite fun. There's free games, that offer free stuff + stuff you can buy + stuff you can grind for instead of buying (awesome). And also paid for games, that give you free stuff, sometimes through grinding it out etc., with options to buy if you don't want to grind. No extra money schemes and such. It's a nice way to enjoy Halloween gaming. :)
Anyways, that's not really the point of this thread, and I agree with a lot of points made. And I think it was well spoken. There are clear issues going on, that I sadly think will get swept under the rug instead.
Also, talking about "hype" their entire last stream was just an advertisement.... They also didn't mention or even hint at anything that could potentially delay the event or any issues. No actual feedback. Which if they knew from the PTB, they had several issues that would cause the delay (which was said in another thread).. Then surely they would know they would be far too busy to do a Q and A, which was constantly told to everyone, even there, that it would be done next week, which is now moved to next, next week. (As they are claiming with the too busy with the bugs thing....) Kind of like getting the run around...
Hmmm. Just found that interesting. That's all.

Apparently there were bugs from the PTB.. which was sometime ago, that is now delaying the launch, and no one was notified of the possible delay until recently. The bugs (that we didn't know about) weren't enough to assume a delay, apparently, or I imagine we would of been told sooner.... that is if we get up to date information frequently.. :think
