To be fair life happens. I’ve had situations where I’ve been called away unexpectedly. I think it’s more polite than DC’ng. This way someone can get points out of me and if I happen to get back before I’m dead I can get back into the match.
True, but you're still going on the hook.
Can't bring myself to punish the team for one of their members not being present.
-
Hook and kill them ASAP for failing the cripplingly difficult task of actually being there when you queue up for a game.
Then I farm with everyone else.
-
Wait what.
They removed Spirit's chase theme?
Why?

So are we just completely ignoring how I explained why it is not that simple?
Because if we are, that's fine.
Nope, I fully acknowledged them.
The process is simple and can be done in probably about 5 seconds, but we're good at talking very simple processes into being incredibly complicated.
Been there. I played League for a good, long time-- and holy god was it awful. 1 in 10 matches were fun, the rest consisted of me entering constant bouts of adolescent rage that left me fuming the whole day.
Oh, I had plenty of excuses. I've played for hundreds of hours, I've unlocked so many champions, I've spent money on the game, I have friends who play and ask to play with me, the good matches were actually fun, the other MOBAs weren't interesting or were too intense for me.. but overall, it was a fun negative. Actually made my days worse. Took a minute, but I eventually realized the game was genuinely making me miserable.
Right click, uninstall, confirm. Never had a problem with it since.
My excuses were pretty dumb. About as dumb as anyone else's excuses for playing something they hate-- unless you don't actually hate it as much as you say, and you're just showboating. Which is even dumber.
I didn't have much sympathy for me, and I don't have much sympathy for anyone else struggling with the three-step process. Have the self-responsibility to walk away, or stop complaining so loud when you grab BHVR's fist and slam it into your own face.

Perhaps.
I think it's good advice to quit something you hate, but saying it's simple is simply wrong.
It is simple.
The door's right there. The game's feelings won't be hurt, it hasn't sunk addictive chemicals into your bloodstream, and nothing stops you from coming back when things are actually better.
Right click, uninstall, confirm.
The only hitch in this process is people turning themselves right back around after convincing themselves otherwise because they don't actually hate the game as much as they say they do.

No, it is not.
When DBD works, it really works. It's an incredible concept. However, I'd say it only "works" 10-20% of the time. The other 80% is you chasing that feeling of it "working."
This makes it difficult to quit because you know the game can be great and a ton of fun.
Also, many of us have played for thousands of hours and the sunk-cost fallacy is a #########.
Finally, if you get tired of Apex Legends, you can go play any other number of Battle Royale games to fill that spot whilst still being noticeably distinct and unique, but not so far from the "Battle Royale Formula" that your skills don't transfer. However, if you get tired of DBD, you can play......DBD? There are no real alternatives. If you want to quit DBD, you are quitting the asymmetrical horror genre entirely. You have no other options.
Sounds like an abusive relationship.
"It's usually pretty bad, but sometimes it's great, so if I stick around long enough things will hopefully get better"
It just sound like justifying the addiction. Either you have the self-responsibility to quit when you're clearly miserable or you don't.

I don't think it's that simple.
It is, though.
If it's really such constant agony to play, stop playing it.
It's probably what you'd recommend to anyone playing anything else that they seem to have an awful time with.

Man, I got you.

Some people really ought to.

Well, yeah, but if we're arguing which behaviour is the most childish, it's the one that has no definite mechanical effect and isn't considerably worse by dint of being potentially physically harmful. Doesn't mean the gaps are big. 🤣
I'm just saying they and the excuses both suck.
-
@RainehDaze said:

I'd say a mechanically valid difference is a better argument than appeals to poor tactical attempts. Especially with the whole teabagging at the exit gate part.
True, but it's still flimsy.
Sacrificing precious, precious Killer time to.. make the hooked guy stop their two second scream. By the time you're done with your weapon swipe, they'd have stopped screaming already and you'd be ready for whatever you apparently needed to be ready for.
-
@RainehDaze said:
Apparently, #3 has a valid purpose in shutting the scream up sooner so you can hear other things, though I've not seen much point in that.
Flashlight clicking is beyond juvenile into dangerous because of photosensitivity.
Which leaves teabagging as the most childish, though it's bad manners regardless.
The first two apparently have the valid purpose of getting the killer's aggression onto you, so i'd take the validity thing with a grain of salt.

Yes, I agree completely. He totally overreacted and should likely get a temp ban for doing that (I cannot stand griefers).
I'm just saying - yeah, killers get really annoyed sometimes, especially when they get an infuriating archive challenge (this one had a few of these).
Man-- at least it's not finishing 4 gens with Dark Sense.

They shot 'Slinger in the other leg and didn't even give him a crutch.

Sure.
But...I honestly understand.
A while back I had a number of really, really nasty games back to back. I was trying to do that bloody 'down survivors with Main Event' thing - and I hate playing Trickster.
Everything, from a lag switcher slowing me to permanent 'carry speed' and taking the game hostage, followed by a pair of survivors that played hide and seek for almost an hour because they gave me a 3gen, several other very obnoxious groups and capped off with a Russian TTV premade that refused to complete the final gen and just memed on me for 30 minutes with sabos, boons and flashlights - and when I finally went AFK, they told me they were reporting me for 'non participation'.
I ended up taking a week's hiatus from the game. If I'd kept playing, the next time I ran into a BM group - yeah, I can only imagine what I might have done if the chance had arisen.
It's not a good thing, but 'tit for tat' is one of the most powerful human instincts. The technical term is 'reciprocity'.
Sure. But if you're going to tit some tats, it's best to make sure your level of retribution is fairly equal.
In most of those cases, people were actually cheating and breaking the rules. Lag switching, hostage holding, false reporting, you name it. Let 'em bleed out. Let 'em take a break in the corner, I don't really care.
Being obnoxious and douchey isn't quite that, though. Neither is someone not giving you your challenge. Meme on them, talk trash, smack on hook and headnod, no problem-- but holding them hostage is less the eye for your eye and more the finger for your nail.
It's why you can't just pull out a gun when someone starts a fistfight.

Report him. That's textbook 'holding the game hostage'.
That said - it wasn't obvious that he was doing the archive challenge?
This strikes me as a 'nobody was in the right' situation.
But there were certainly people more wrong.

So, in other words: I do one thing that pisses you off (small or something not that major), and then you respond with an exaggerated "world ending" type reaction towards my action.
Sound about right?
Essentially.
In this case, one was, intentionally or no, dickish. The other was actually rulebreaking.

Maybe you're the dick here. If you're team was done for and you kept being spiteful and petty to deny him his challenge then I can't sympathize with you.
Have you heard the term "disproportionate retribution"?
-
Sigh.
-
Now that doing all the totems isn't just a big suicidal timesink, yes, they can do bones.
-
I think it would be better if it were a base mechanic to have the gates regress down to 90% if it's past that-- so you can still get real good progress on the gates, but it takes a full 2 seconds to open if you just leave it.
The 90% is negotiable, though.

Kinda is. The devs are all survivor mains and almost never play killer. Just look at the latest update, despite being the most iconic part of the game killers barely got anything (and they basically made GH unplayable too)
More the fact that someone is so deeply ingrained with their chosen tribe in this game that they unironically talk about its development like they're talking about government.
As the kids of 2021 might say-- kinda cringe.

"Dead by Daylight is controlled by Survivor ideology"
Had to plumb the depths of desolation and perdition for that one.

How do you know they left? What if it was a power outage or game crash? Either way, the DC penalty should never go past 5 minutes anyway. If someone doesn't want to continue a match they shouldn't have to without fear of a stacking penalty.
Boy golly is there a lot of convenient crashes and power outages when people go down for the first time.

you responded literally less than a minute after I posted this, so either you're a speed reader who can read at 2,000 - 10,000 words per minute, or you only read the title, and responded without reading the post.

People run good perks.
It, along with all the other good perks, are here to stay until BHVR decides to make a face turn.

Play as? Sure, maybe.
Play against? Yes, I love dying on my first hook next to 7 traps.
-
Hey, think about it like this--
when you play Killer, you're guaranteed to not get god-awful teammates.
-
Do you even know who I am, bro?

Make injured survivors breathe at an increased volume.

Finally, my kind of tier list.

https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/296422/you-arent-a-victim-for-playing-killer
Woof.
Okay, let me see if I can explain, because while - yes - gaming forums tend to be negative, killer players do have some very legitimate gripes that are clearly not being addressed.
- Yes, this is a game. We are all playing a videogame. To have fun. When that game is not fun for a lot of people, they come to the forums and give feedback. And yes, it's in the nature of the internet that any feedback you agree with is complete genius and if the devs don't implement it NOW they don't care about the playerbase and that any feedback you don't agree with is whining and should probably result in them just being banned from the game, but sometimes - you do need to at least listen to the other side. Even when you disagree.
- You are free to agree or disagree. What you don't get to do is to tell them not to give their opinion.
- When people take the time to complain about something on the forums, it's because they are passionate about that game. They really like it - even if they are frustrated with it in the moment. And the better something is, the more it's flaws become apparent.
- Plenty of absolutely absurd stuff in the game has never been fixed, or even addressed. There are still infinites. There aren't many maps that favor killers, and the 'survivor sided' maps outnumber the 'balanced' maps. Some killers still have bugs. A ton of addons and perks aren't worth running, or can even be worse than an empty slot.
- Only a few killers are viable at high MMR play, and many that weren't still got nerfed. That's really frustrating.
- MMR threw the cat among the pigeons, as high MMR killers are now facing a lot more high MMR survivors than they were before, which only makes these imbalances more apparent.
I honestly don't know what you intend to accomplish by this thread. People are giving feedback - some well written, some inelegantly. Some of it may just be outright wrong (I know I totally disagree with a lot of the MMR complaints). A lot of the time, it's people that are frustrated just letting off a little steam.
That said - they are still taking their time to give that feedback.
As these are the forums where we are supposed to do that - why not just lay off and let them do this? This post really does come over as rather meanspirited.
Like I said-- there's real things to complain about here, and normal, well-articulated people who don't treat this game like it's life talk about it all the time, which is good, because I usually agree with complaints about the state of killer.
But the well-functioning and articulate group aren't the ones i'm talking about here.

Their is something wrong with us mentally to like playing killer. Its legit torture some nights.
Or perhaps you just.
Take this game too seriously.
-
Because I have fun playing killer.
Guess i'm built different.

Sometimes?
-
Fellow killers, please join me in my stoic, silent suffering. We truly are an underclass.

All of them.
Challenges are sentient and hate me.

I bet those sweaty teams are really feeling the consequences of their actions now.

That one allowing you to heal yourself changes everything. If it was heal someone else in EGC, you'd be unbelievably screwed, but when it's yourself, you can save a medkit or bring CoH/Self-Care and intentionally stay injured towards the end of the game. And if you're not injured, it's not too hard to bait a hit and then get away from the killer provided someone else is alive - the killer wants to be at the exit gates while they're in progress and probably won't chase you if you run off to some random place instead. The only thorn in your side is going to be NOED.
Blood Debt, though... eesh. That took a while. And there's some challenges I haven't even attempted because hope and a prayer won't cut it. Complete 4 gens in solo queue, pshaw. Get a SWF or get out.
I really hate the 'survive while others escape the trial' challenges in particular because if other people do make it that far, I can't get them to fecking leave. Sometimes they actively kill themselves by taunting the killer like absolute morons and I'm just slowly dying inside watching this happen. There was one challenge where I needed like 9 total fellow escapes or something, back in the days of red rank solo queue, and it was absolute murder. Literally, but also figuratively too.
Your solo queue teammates are all too happy to leave without you until that's exactly what you need them to do, i've found.
Please god, all I need to do is leave through this hatch. Please just go. I'm standing on it right now. You're all at the exit gate T-bagging the killer who just can't be bothered, please just go, it's been 90 seconds of this. There's NO reason not to leave. Please just go right now, i'll be fine, just
no, the Entity springs out of the goddamn hatch and takes me as everyone leaves a single milisecond before the Collapse finishes.
