But then the killer can teleport to them at any given time???

That has to be a look over
other wise there would be no point in solving it you pick it up being into your gen drop it to avoid oblvisous and puxk it up again to stop it
To drop it the box must be solved, according to the power description. They'd have to solve it.
-
No this seems intentional.
If we look at the power it says "The hunt ends when a survivor picks up the Lament Configuration". Picks up, not solves.
-
Welp
-
Oh I hope so, but please don't forget the MLM flag when doing so because it usually is. Ace, Trans, MLM, WLW, Bi, Pan, and more that I can't think of off the top of my head. They can keep adding in more later as well.
I'm all for it.
-
Okay so the box.
If it's left alone then it can activate a "Chain Hunt" where lots of chains are spawned which will follow and attack survivors.
If a killer picks up the box, this Chain Hunt starts. All survivors will be bound by chains and scream.
A survivor picking up the box stops any Chain Hunts instantly, however now their aura is revealed to the killer until they solve it. Also the killer can teleport directly to them :)
Once solved, the box will respawn at a random spot. There is only one box at a time.
That's what I got from reading the power

I never played this game for the licenses, I've always played it for gameplay, as everyone else. Those who don't like the gameplay will not play the game just for the licenses. I have a friend who is a RE fan and one who is a SH fan, and none of them wants to play DbD because they don't like the gameplay. So all these licenses mean nothing to the player base.
Not now, when it is already established within the genre, but when the game was brand new Halloween carried this game to a decent level of popularity and brought it to the forefront of a lot of people's radars.

Actually they'll appear in the Shrine only for purchase.

"It feels fair for the survivor"? That's a great argument, now killer get frustrated at pallets most of the time, grabs and I even had a locker pull reverted on me when they jumped in right in front of me. Now make it a clean slate and treat windows the same and survivor made finally be happy.
And from what I saw killer already felt it when the animation showed them the full hit and reverting that magically or did they manage to fix that? I respect pallets so i wouldn't know.

I've barely had hits be dedicated. If you have been getting dedicated it's an issue with your ping, because the server has determined that you did not get that hit. It feels unfair to you because you're used to those hits connecting and now they are not. It feels unfair to you but this is possibly the most fair netcode they can make.
Again, if it was survivor aided you would feel it. And if it remained killer sided you would continue to get complaints from survivors constantly because it would remain unfair.
Grabs are an entirely different issue that need fixing, and a fix should be coming soon. The changes in the mid-chapter were a bandaid until they can properly fix it.
"And from what I saw killer already felt it when the animation showed them the full hit and reverting that magically or did they manage to fix that? I respect pallets so i wouldn't know."
I agree this shouldn't happen but technical limitations prevent this from being an easy fix. Killers are feeling it being server sided, but survivor sided would be constantly never hitting through a pallet. You'd be stunned from miles away. You wouldn't ever get a hit unless within melee range because the survivor would always determine you were too far away. Lagswitching would return more powerful than ever.
This is, honestly, the best case scenario.
-

Just the fact that close to all complaints about hits at pallets while making distance have stopped and only killer see their hit getting reverted tells me otherwise.
Because it feels fair now for survivors. The netcode determines if it received the prompt that the killer was stunned or the survivor was hit first, and if the survivor got the stun before the hit then the hit is cancelled and the stun succeeds.
If it was survivor sided, then regardless of if the killer hit first or not to the server, if the survivor got the stun on their client before the killer hit them on their client, the hit would be cancelled.
Meaning that 360 ping survivors would be at a massive advantage. Just like 360 ping killers were at a massive advantage.
Again, if it was survivor client sided you would feel it. Killers are complaing because they've gotten used to hits through pallets, and survivors aren't because they've gotten used to being hit through pallets.

I love this condescending wording of "not deserving" no Matter if now or than. As if the ping/latency relation was/is always set in stone. In my eyes they simply flipped sides. Before killer where preferred and survivor saw themselves make more distance than they did according to the server and now survivor are preferred thanks to the changed code and killer see the bs.
Killer now get hits cancelled on pallets, grabs denied (with and without hit consolation) and yesterday I even had a survivor going into a locked right in front of me and my pulling out was also cancelled but at least I got a consolation hit while being animation locked( still only half of what i "deserved").
And before you assume my playstyle or ping, i have the best internet i can get in my country (1000k mbps down, 50 up) and have laid a 15 meter cable through my apartment. Also I respect every pallet so I can kick it for the 100 points and getting it out of the game.
My biggest problem with pallets are the broken hitboxes where I get stunned and still have to walk up to it for the kick.
Survivors aren't preferred. The server is the decision maker.
Believe me, if survivors were preferred you would never get a hut through a pallet. If survivors were preferred you would feel it

It makes me now wonder how older games like MKX can still have characters like Predator or Leatherface available for purchase.
Stranger Things + Avatar: the Last Airbender in SMITE- limited time skins that when they're gone are gone for purchase.
GEN:LOCK in Paladins- limited time skins that when they expire are gone for purchase.

Yet your original post continues to blame BHVR and you're still complaining on the dbd forums where Netflix is very unlikely to read.

It's not a competition betwwen BHVR and Netflix for sure, but with the failed of the agreement the content BHVR can provide to players are weaker, and it's a fact. And loosing a map at a period of the game where the main problem of the game is to have only one new map in one year due to reworks is for me quite sad.
I don't blame BHVR or Netflix, or whatever, just the model of "Hall of Fame of Horror" like Mathieu Côté was proud to celebrate in the 5th anniversary isn't as strong as I expected, even if i knew it could happens.
Anyway, as player and customer, I will not purchase any licenced content anymore because I have less confidence in BHVR about their ability to keep this content in the game, even, i'm sure they do the best for.
But purchasing the licenced content ensures that you keep it permanently? So if anything that's the content you want to be purchasing as it could vanish at a later date.

Popularity speaks volumes sure they get more money and if they see more profit they will attempt to renegotiate
Unless the reason for the termination isn't because of lack of popularity but because of Netflix wanting to make a ST horror game, not wanting to work with BHVR anymore, or charging a much higher fee than before.
-
I highly doubt this will do anything except give Netflix more money.

Yes you have a right to be angry, but don't blame and complain to BHVR for a decision made by Netflix?? That's like someone stealing your wallet but instead of blaming them you blame your friend standing nearby because they didn't stop it, even if it was entirely out of their control.
-
What?
-
@SasukeKun said:
https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2434681#Comment_2434681
Maybe they shouldn't have agreed to the deal to begin with then. I mean i can see how they want the attention to go to their Own "Stranger Things" game. This version in dbd wouldn't have been much to compete with if they were planning on expanding on it's features.
Then stop complaining to and blaming BHVR for this when the decision is most likely wholly Netflix.

I have an idea, but i've never seen a gaming company do something like this
Well the good news is that the exact same thing is happening with Silent Hill and Dark Deception. It's likely to happen with other games like Fortnite and Paladins, where crossover skins will be unavailable after a certain time (only skins since these games don't licence characters). It isn't an uncommon practice in terms of licencing IPs.
-
@SasukeKun said:

Hi-Rez as a company is probably more profitable, Smite as a game has a better reputation and actually functions, Netflix likes Smite more than DBD, we don't know.

Do we know for certain that Netflix made this decision - if so why? /gen
I'm completely baffled. I never expected an entire chapter to just sort of... vanish.
Okay no, we don't know for sure. But why would BHVR want to do this- unless the costs got too great (can't be cheap to have Halloween, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill) but I doubt they'd remove one of their biggest licences voluntarily without trying to get rid of smaller ones first (like Ash vs Evil Dead, for example)
-

As a consumer this is frustrating but as a law student this is fascinating. I love watching copyright and contract law in action and this is a great example.
-
1) Licencing expired and one of the two parties didn't want to, or couldn't, renew it.
2) Because it's Stranger Things content and the only content that will remain in-game is that already owned by players. As no player owns the map it will go.

https://us.v-cdn.net/6030815/uploads/COZTVG4NQ775/sbmm.png
Skill Based Matchmaking (SBMM) has been enabled for testing on live servers. This test is expected to end August 16, but may be cut short if any issues arise.
What is SBMM?
SBMM is a new type of matchmaking that uses a hidden skill rating instead of ranks to create fairer matches. This rating increases when you do well and decreases when you do poorly.
What advantages does SBMM have?
The way ratings are calculated are much more accurate to a player’s skill level than ranks. While there is some correlation between rank and skill, time played in a month is the biggest factor in the old rank system.
Skill based matchmaking ratings are also separate for each Killer, meaning you’ll have tougher matches with the Killer you’re really good at, but easier matches when you’re trying out a new Killer for the first time.
What is different from the last test?
There’s a bunch of differences, so we’ll keep it short:
- We’re using several months of data to calculate your ratings rather than a few weeks
- We’ve made changes to how your rating is calculated when playing a Killer for the first time
- Fixed some bugs with the system (notably, The Hillbilly)
In the last test, we tried the system with only a few weeks of data. This meant the system was treating most players like they were new if they played a Killer that they hadn’t played in the last few weeks. This time around, it should feel much more like you’d expect.
But the biggest thing you’ll probably notice is that ranks will be hidden after a match. This is because they are not being used for matchmaking at this time.
What will happen to ranks?
During the test, nothing! Your rank will behave exactly the same as normal, it just won’t be shown after the match. Once the test is over, they’ll be used for matchmaking again and will appear after matches.
In the future, once we’ve officially changed to SBMM, ranks will remain as a monthly progression system. Each month, your rank will reset to 20, and you’ll earn Bloodpoints based on how much you’ve ranked up. Both Killer and Survivor have their own rewards, so you can earn double the points by ranking up both sides.
What will happen during rank reset?
During the test: Your rank will decrease slightly like it always does, but your SBMM rating will not change.
When the system goes live permanently someday, your rating will still not change, but your rank will reset all the way back to 20. Rank will instead be used to earn monthly rewards based on how much you were able to rank up in that month. Each role has its own rewards, so you’ll be able to get double the rewards by playing both sides.
What are we looking for?
We’re looking to see the overall quality of matches, and whether or not the system is able to accurately predict the outcome of a match. Ratings get more accurate as the test goes on, but if you’re getting totally one-sided matches a few days in, please let us know!
Ending August 16th, or sooner if complications arise. Since we've heard nothing to the contrary it's sade ti assume this remains true

Honestly, no. It's an assymetric game with horror coating, and while taking this away may be more profitable it'll remove a lot more integrity to DBD. Its still a survival game at the end of the day, and including a lot of other licenses would just... Take away the horror coating that we love about it, imo.
Like, Stranger Things is sci-fi with horror elements so it fits. Including something like Stardew Valley, idk, would just break it all
