  • I'm surprised Freddy isn't mentioned.

That's not the most important distinction. Back when it was 3 seconds, it didn't require you to be hooked at all, and didn't disable on a conspic action. In other words, it was a purely offensive perk, not anti-tunnel, or avoidable.

Technically you could avoid by dribbling, but it wasn't always possible.

Since it was an anti-momentum perk, adjusting the stun time was okay. But for anti-tunneling purposes, it needs to be 5 seconds.

You just have to keep losing to become better.

With higher skill ceiling killers like Billy, you cannot expect to go into matches and do well or win against competent players if you don’t have the experience behind playing him. You’re not playing a simple killer like Wraith, he’s hard to learn and get the hang of.

And simply watching streamers who are good at a certain killer can aid in you picking up tips and tricks on certain killers. UncleStanBana is great at Billy and I would recommend him.

But Billy is still a mid killer. You won’t get the same results with him as you would someone like Nurse or Spirit. I’m depressed every time I get something like Hawkins as Billy

Fixed it for ya, friend :)

  • I've only played against her twice so far.

First match was on Rotten Fields and I got tunneled out of the game.

Second was yesterday on Léry's, everyone escaped. On both trials, no one got anywhere close to Condemned.

The problem I'm noticing is that Survivors being pushed off gens before they can stop the regression event and/or greeding the gen to stop the regression, then going down because the Killer was able to close the distance, is happening with far more frequency than games in which the Killer just locks down a 3-gen.

It's a net negative for the Survivors--the average match for Survivors has become more difficult, at the expense of being aided against 3-gen situations.

I follow all the logic that led us to this point, but my observation thus far has been that Survivors got the short end of the stick here.

Interesting. My experience so far is different than yours, I haven't seen survivors struggling that much with the new mechanic.

Quite the contrary, actually. I've seen 3 gens being broken against Wesker, Trickster, Knight, Spirit... Almost my own as Freddy.

Yes, this patch cannot be called a buff for Survivors in any way. But as you've said, we can see why it was done this way.

  • It is not exactly a nerf, per se. It would be impossible to add an anti 3-gen mechanic with gen tapping still around.

But you can still escape just fine, of course. The new Grim Embrace + DMS meta is the actual problem that has to be addressed, imho.

  • Everyone wants 5 seconds back, at least. But there is no telling what will actually happen.

They really do need to start reverting things....

Also they need to start thinking of ways to patch the game without needing 2-3 weeks of people not caring

We also need to have every progression and regression timed out to see if there's anything there that needs to be changed

Oh and just an idea but giving Corrupt 10-15 seconds of extra Gen blocking

They really do need to start reverting things....

They do, yes. There are many things in the game that could use a reversion.

Yeah cause there was an incentive to not tunnel, there was a better reward for not play like that :/

    Exactly.

It won't stop every tunneler out there, but it would stop most of them. BBQ and DS are good solutions for this problem.

  • Adrenaline is fine as it is.

The only thing they should do is remove the wake up effect from the perk. Patch 1.8.1 was already a big nerf to Freddy, this was always overkill.

  • @RaSavage42 said:

IF they re-did BP we wouldn't see that much hange...

Tunneling has only increased since they removed the bonus BP from BBQ, nerfed DS and made MMR a thing

Three horrible changes, three things in need of reversions.

Giving BP its bloodpoint gains back and reverting DS back to 5 seconds would help a lot. Perhaps it won't change the playstyle of every single player out there, but it would put an end to the sheer wave of tunneling we're currently seeing.

And MMR just needs to go, period. It has always caused far more harm than good.

  • I was going to offer to record some of my own games, as I try my best to avoid strategies that are frowned upon.

But thankfully I don't usually play against the super sweaty teams of survivors you're looking for, so I don't think my recordings would help with your experiment here.

However if they stuck with this menu today, I don't think there would be enough room for the amount of content they plan on providing. I can get used to the menu we have now, but I will still miss the menu we used to have.

Also, a bit off topic, but I wish the ingame HUD was like this instead of what we have now.

I wonder how it's gonna work... is everyone gonna be in the event by default? Or I wonder if the changes to the menu are there to facilitate creation of a separate "event" queue.

It'd be really cool if there was like a weekly events queue players can hope is for casual play and goofing about outside the main game. Effectively being the "unranked" queue.

There will be a separate queue for Lights Out, yes.

Seems like you were the only one that understood the intend behind my question ("what kind of reactions can I expect if I go back playing killer now with all these complaints?").

Good to know that nothing has really changed and despite all the complaining about unfun killer strategies people still haven't learned to encourage the ones that avoid those by ACTIVE positive feedback.

And therefore me coming back would be pointless and only a drop in the bucket.

Good to know that nothing has really changed and despite all the complaining about unfun killer strategies people still haven't learned to encourage the ones that avoid those by ACTIVE positive feedback.

That might be unlikely to happen. I have no doubt many players will be grateful to get a killer who isn't tunneling at 5 gens, but at best the post game chat will have some ggs, or silence.

At least there will be no toxicity, that is always a good thing.

Ah, this old song. There's ebb and flow, and with it comes the "all the survs/killers are gonna quit!", or just wait a while, killer/surv mains, your queue will be an hour long soon!" refrains. How many times have we heard it? Too many. Never happens.

6.1.0 was a doozy, I had it on good authority all the solo queue survs were gonna quit if most of the changes weren't reverted. They weren't, and they didn't (or at least no more quit than came into the game).

Don't get me wrong, I empathize with you, but the sands are constantly shifting, and it won't be long before the shoe is on the other foot. Or you'll quit and be replaced by a baby potato, and the circle of life will continue.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3639540#Comment_3639540

My advice is to bench her until the next (alleged) round of changes. She's in a rough state. Onryo is my favorite killer, but I'm not wasting my inventory pissing into the wind here.

Meanwhile, Blight gets "nerfed" and is somehow just as good (or better). Funny how that works.

6.1.0 was a doozy, I had it on good authority all the solo queue survs were gonna quit if most of the changes weren't reverted. They weren't, and they didn't (or at least no more quit than came into the game).

To be fair, 6.1.0 was a terrible patch. There is so much wrong with it that it is hard to know where to start.

It didn't cause a massive loss of players, but it definitely had the potential to.

  • Yeah, I feel like learning a new killer is way harder with MMR in the game.

Back in the day I just waited for Rank Reset if I wanted to learn someone new, and it worked pretty well for Spirit and Oni. Had some troubles with Pig, but in the end it worked.

But after MMR was introduced, it got much harder to learn a new character, because whatever it is supposed to do when you're playing a killer for the first time definitely doesn't work. Trying to learn Onryo was extremely difficult, and I am sure I'll have the same troubles with Knight, who I really want to play.

Another example of the massive list of reasons why MMR should be removed from the game.

It's not instead of, though. At most it's in addition to.

Take a look at this roadmap- Genetic Limits, This Is Not Happening, Distressing, and even arguably Decisive Strike at this point are all low tier perks that people largely don't use. I am going to assume - and I will admit it is an assumption - that the intent is to either buff those perks, or rework them such that they'd be more appealing, which means they are addressing the perks nobody wants to run.

They're just doing that and bringing the ceiling of the strongest possible options down a little. Whether you agree with nerfing the strongest stuff or not, it's clear they are doing both, not one instead of the other.

But that doesn't expand the meta, it replaces the meta. And I don't think that is a good direction to go, especially when it includes nerfs to perks that do not need to be nerfed.

Imagine a killer meta consists of Ruin, BBQ, PGTW and Nurse's Calling. Then one day, Nurse's Calling gets an undeserved nerf while Remember Me gets a massive buff. Now the meta is Ruin, BBQ, PGTW and Remember Me. The meta wasn't expanded, it was replaced.

That is essentially what happens with current meta adjustments. If you go through patch notes 6.1.0 there is so much stuff wrong with it that it is hard to know where to start.

I don't think that is a good direction to go. We should have more options of perks to run, not just replacements. And we shouldn't nerf perks unnecessarily.

"Current meta adjustments seem to be more concerned with nerfing perks that players enjoy using instead of buffing the low tier perks.

And this is really bad, especially when it affects perks that do not require nerfs, like Adrenaline."

    ^ this

Adrenaline does not need a Nerf, but I feel that they think it needs to be toned down, because it is used more often than Perks which are just not as good. And the right thing should be to buff the weak Perks to a stronger Level. To give options. E.g. I think they did a good Job with Background Player. It is not weak anymore, but also not busted and you see it being used. (Yes, it sucks if a Survivor gets a Flashlight-Save with it, but I never felt that it was unfair when it happened to me)

I really wish they would put more time into just trying to buff older and weaker Perks and experiment more with them. I would not mind if they pick 5 Perks on each side and change them for a Midchapter and if they are either too strong or still too weak, change them again in the next Chapter until those 10 Perks are decent. And then move on to the next Perks.

    Well said, my friend.

Giving more options to players is infinitely better than just nerfing perks that do not have to be nerfed, as is the case with Adrenaline.

As much as I'd like to think that the only thing they'll do with Adrenaline is removing the effect of waking you up against Freddy, we all know that is very unlikely.

  • I am still curious to see how will it work with Freddy's Dream World.

  • I try my best to avoid strategies that are frowned upon, because I know how it feels to be that one survivor who gets tunneled out of the game before they even had the chance to play.

So your experience will probably be similar to mine: either some rare "ggs" in post game chat, or silence.

Tunneling is a problem these days, and it is good to see any killer who doesn't do it from the start. The lack of complaints / toxicity after the match probably reflects that.

  • I'm honestly surprised this combo wasn't changed before the patch dropped. It is a bad design, nothing more.

  • I didn't, and honestly I don't think I will.

Don't care much for the Alan Wake franchise, his perks are pretty bad, and no survivor will ever replace my beloved Claudette, so there was no reason for me to buy this new DLC.

I wholeheartedly agree. What on earth is going on? We need other perks and killer base kits reworked to tie into the current perks we have, definitely not adrenaline… it’s fine. You can even bait out adrenaline when the last gen pops carrying a survivor

Current meta adjustments seem to be more concerned with nerfing perks that players enjoy using instead of buffing the low tier perks.

Maybe we'll see something happen at the second half of 2024, I could be wrong, till then, who knows. But regardless, I love this concept. Thanks for sharing this with us.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/399441/nightmare-an-idea-for-a-freddy-change-again

Always good to read your posts friend!

Old Freddy seems like a good direction to head, however with this iteration of Freddy his power is pretty similar to PTB Sadako, with immense slowdown, a weak stealth (by virtue of being unable to attack) and a teleport to gens... with this in mind there are a few things I'm not so keen on that I'd like to feedback/share thoughts on.

Failed Skill Checks can also wake up.

I really don't conceptually like failed Skill Checks waking survivors up. It's RNG reliant, and I really don't care for the ping ponging in and out of the dream state.

I can see that players will carry a medkit (they are still the best item for survivors in the game), throw pallets and sit trying to get skill checks for self healing and spamming for a miss (like people did when everyone ran self-care)(P.S. Franklin's Value?). It also means if everyone is asleep, and you don't have a medkit or aren't injured, your only escape is deliberately reverting progress on healing other survivors or break gens, which given the huge 50% repair speed reduction, you must do. Again you're sat spamming the skillcheck button waiting for RNG to grant you one that you might not even get.

While I don't like the clocks for the almost painful lack of originality, having to race to a location to get out of the dream with Freddy in pursuit fits more thematically to me, especially with regards to thoughts I have about teleporting. Instead of clocks, I would have the survivor have to burn thier hand on one of Freddy's pipes or take a steam jet to the face or something that would hurt in order to wake up.

Once targeted by The Nightmare’s power, survivors enter the Dream Transition for 7 seconds, during the Dream Transition Survivors can see The Nightmare intermittently and they suffer from the Incapacitated status effect.

The incapacitated effect is a great touch here, stops survivors doing things in Freddy's face with him being helpless. One thing that strikes me about Old Freddy though is the way you wander around spamming your dream world yoink on survivors to pull them into the dream once you're in range. Once you have that Transition it's all about trying yo keep people in the dream as mich as possible.

The fire and forget style of this power doesn't seem very interactive to me, and in conjunction with the Incapacitated effect it seems like it'd be quite frustrating to face (especially in conjunction with my skill check escape removal suggestion above).

I think a more interesting method might be something like:

    • Have 21s transition that is fire and forget, that inflicts half the repair penalty on generators for the duration of the transition.
    • Have Freddy channel on a specific survivor to increase the Transition rate by a factor of 3 to take 7s (from maximum) and apply Incapacitated.

This would mean that Freddy can target a survivor to incapacitate, still put pressure on others as he goes but can't just constantly spam Incapacitate at will. With multiple survivors swarming at gates for example you can incapacitate the one opening the gate, and then they have to move to let another survivor in. Perhaps transitioning survivors gain collision with Freddy, and if he plays it smart he may be able to body block at gate, which gives him the unique property to block off a gate rush after an unhook.

Special Ability: Dream Projection. Teleport to a Generator in view. Releasing the button early will cancel the action. Survivors cannot interact with the targeted Generator.

This is the major talking point and I think it's great to keep this is his kit. One thing that is irksome about this addition though is as gens get completed, he loses the power to teleport. This might be fine mind you, since ofc the rest of his power is there to slow down all actions, healing and otherwise, especially as he now can block the generator being repaired with his TP... so perhaps that is sufficient trade off where as the trial goes on, he gets weaker?

That being said, how does blocking generators interact with the black box? If you don't get blocked but the gen spews blood, you know he isn't coming, if you do get blocked, you know he is, so the surprise doens't work... I'd prefer the abvlity to teleport to gens regardless of whether they are powered or not? Or would that be too oppressive in the end game?

    Me being silly:

I'm going off the rails with something mad cap now that I'll just brain dump... since his TP has a pretty long cooldown, perhaps allowing Freddy to teleport to other things as well, that are near a survivor in the dream (since he has their aura anyway). Like pallets that haven't been thrown, hooks that don't have a survivor on them. Pretending to be a hanging survivor then unhooking himself, or leaning against a pallet the survivor is running to is something I can really see Freddy doing... and it gives him to power to do some mind games at loops. He probably need other things toning down to compensate, but it would be pretty interesting.

Anyway, outside of my BS, it sounds cool regardless! GL getting Freddy back :D

Thank you, my friend! It is very good to have you here.

We've discussed some of your points here before, and I suppose we mostly agree to disagree on some aspects regarding his base-kit. However, you bringing up Black Box may have revealed an oversight.

So, this was the actual Black Box back in the day:

    image.png

And I always thought it was a bit weak for an Iri. The obsession could start the trial close to someone else, and you would barely get any value out of their aura being revealed at the start. Not to mention that we now have Lethal Pursuer in the game, which would do a much better job than this add-on.

So, when I posted this concept in 2021 this was my idea for Black Box:

    Black Box:

-Broken pallets are replaced by Dream Pallets

-Non-sleeping survivors cannot see or interact with Dream Pallets

“I can sleep… I just don’t want to” -Dean Russell

I changed it because I thought it was too much. I mean: aura-reading, slowdown at base, mobility, pseudo-stealth, it is a powerful kit. Adding a chase ability on top of that felt a little too powerful.

Then I had the idea of giving it the same effect current Class Photo has, without its downside. But I'm now I see it might not be that good of an idea... unless I removed the "Survivors cannot interact with the targeted generator", but I don't really like the fact that a generator can be finished before you even have time to teleport to it.

There is food for thought here, my friend. I'll try to find an answer.

And thank you for the good luck wishes, my friend <3

Getting my favorite killer back is my mission here.

    Very cute <3

It wouldn't surprise me if THATS the change they're talking about. It's the only killer specific perk affect left that I know of.

That would be justified. Patch 1.8.1 was already a big nerf to Freddy, making Adrenaline wake you up was overkill.

But considering recent history, I don't think that will be the case. Sure, they'll probably remove this effect, but I doubt the changes will stop there.

I got Nostromo Wreckage and there was literally no room for Dream Pallets at the start. Kate also DCed bc I grabbed her off a Generator while she was lagging really badly.

Your build is now: Trapper (Setting Tools and Trapper Gloves) ~ Machine Learning, Trail of Torment, Monitor and Abuse, H: NOED.

Also... I wish I was joking but that is actually my main Trapper build, youd be surprised how effective it can be sometimes.

Well played, my friend! Nostromo is indeed a difficult map for Pallet Freddy, especially during the early game.

    My turn:

    image.png

Now, this was a rather interesting match.

Map was Ironworks of Misery, and that Steve was AFK at the beginning... right by the basement. Things snowballed from there, which included Rebecca killing herself on her first hook. They only got two generators.

Getting an early basement hook with Trapper can be devastating.

Also, I hardly ever see Spirit anymore when I play as survivor. If she's that strong of a killer, why is nobody using her?

Probably because of her nerfs. Most players who were here at the time will probably agree that Spirit did need a nerf, but such changes often hurt a character's pick rate.

Her add-ons were also hit pretty hard. Some just didn't enjoy what she had to offer after the changes.

    It still is.

It's just that the bar is set so low now that anything even remotely usable as a perk needs to be on the chopping block at all times.

Not sure which perks truly are the contenders for worst in the game, but I do agree with the rest.

Meta adjustments seem to be more concerned with nerfing things that are part of the meta, rather than buffing bad perks to usable levels. And that isn't good.

  • Yes, but only if the killer is Leatherface.

One day, friend. One day Freddy will return. And when he does, the first thing he'll do is mori this imposter we currently have in the game with the words: "Guess who's back #########."

I have hope, my friend, I truly do.

You know, my first match with reworked Freddy was on Léry's, the day patch 3.1.0 dropped. When he finally returns I'll make sure to send myself to Léry's, and put an end to this long dance without my favorite killer.

  • And to think it was once considered to be the worst perk in the game.
