This was done because Freddy's Dream World effects (when a Survivor is asleep, or all the time as the Killer) conflict with the darkness effect used in this modifier. We tried to keep as many Killers available as possible, but he is sadly not compatible with Lights Out.

But couldn't it be adjusted separately? Was there nothing that could be done?

I was genuinely excited for this event. This feels like a slap to the face.

  • Knight, since my main is literally unplayable.

Tarhos here will be filling in for Freddy, I suppose.

  • @YayC said:

My guess is the dream world caused the fog to disappear and instead of trying to fix it they just killswitched him for the modifier.

    @Chaosrider said:

    You really ask that?

I expect the modifier to work with every killer, it is the bare minimum.

    This is unacceptable.

Quite frankly I only skimmed through your reply.

I still stand by my point that surv gameplay is just boring. We can keep going back and for about this and nothing will change. You can talk about all the pallets on paper but when you're playing it's completely different. What is the point of a pallet when the loop is so short that the killer can just ignore it to go around and land a hit anyway? Or if they can literally hit you through a wall or a pallet? The only killers that would find pallets to be an issue are m1 killers and lets be real you don't see them often these days. And lets not get started about the crazy window and pallet hits that haven't been fixed to this very day.

Also keep your sarcasm to yourself because we all know that Freddy's kit is not just teleporting so try that again. It's clear you're just trying to be condescending so you do you.

Also keep your sarcasm to yourself because we all know that Freddy's kit is not just teleporting so try that again.

Take it from one of the four Freddy mains who are still around, sometimes the teleport is all he has.

As long as you are awake, and with the Alarm Clocks granting you temporary immunity to falling asleep it is ridiculously easy to do so, Freddy is a killer that is forced to play without a power. And if you want to have a bit more risk you can spend the whole trial asleep, because staying in the Dream World is no longer dangerous.

The teleport is the only part of his current kit that is worth salvaging, and even that isn't perfect. Yes, it gives him mobility, but you can still finish a generator while he is teleporting to it so the action was pointless. It isn't available from the start, channeling it takes time and he has no add-ons to make it faster. Speaking of add-ons, none of them are good.

Keep yourself awake during the trial and Freddy's kit is reduced to nothing but the teleport.

  • Oddly enough, the best counter to Background Player is its user.

I've seen a survivor with this perk mess up a save way too many times.

  • I missed Hillbilly. It is good to have him back.

For some reason I thought it was a quote from someone over at Gun Interactive, but wasn't 100%. Interesting that it got met with disapproval though. I would think apathy would be the worst thing you could get from a playerbase as it means people have stopped caring.

Perhaps, but it isn't a good look:

"If the player base is yelling at you, then you're doing something right."

  • @Nazzzak said:

I'm not sure which game developer it was, but one of them said something along the lines of not being concerned when people voice their critiques, but being concerned when people stop voicing them at all. If they're purposely not addressing balancing issues then they're missing the people who eventually just shut up because they figure they aren't being heard/their concerns don't matter, and they just quietly find something else to play. There's only so far bad publicity can take you.

That quote actually appeared during one of those special loading screens we get on certain events and it was met with a lot of disapproval here.

  • Thank you so much, my friend!

I always appreciate the support :)

As much as it would be deserved, you can't just delete a character that people have paid for and invested time in. If it were even feasible, Demo, Steve, and Nancy would have been removed when Netlfix pulled the ST license. I mean it could in theory, but in practice it simply isn't going to happen.

If you set a precedent of content removal, people are going to be less confident in buying, and BHVR would lose a ton in future sales.

I don't think adaptation has anything do do with it. She's an irredeemable, POS killer, and there's no degree of adaptation that is going to make her anything less than painfully tedious to face. You can adapt the difficult killers with new mechanics, but there's no way to make anything fun out of the dumpster fire that is the SM.

But yeah, removal is a non-starter. People are just going to have to accept the here and there they'll have to tolerate her, like a root canal or prostate exam.

Well, to be fair, some players seem to no longer have a problem with Legion, and they were just as bad as Skull Merchant on their initial release.

It is likely that the sheer hatred towards Skull Merchant will dissipate at some point.

  • That is, essentially, a free unhook.

I don't think it should be implemented.

Yeah, it did fit him, but BHVR will live by the statistics and die by the statistics.

It really shouldn't be the case.

Reading complaints from Freddy's initial release was genuinely the worst and most infuriating experience I've ever had with the community. And I've seen someone call Spirit Fury an overpowered perk.

But I think the situation is changing, my friend. BHVR got better, the recent changes to Hillbilly are proof of that. For the first time in over four years, I have hope I'll play my favorite killer again.

And seeing after all these years Quentin and Freddy have gotten not a single cosmetic says something too.

    That is true.

It is a very difficult license to work with, but I am extremely grateful we have it. I wouldn't have bought this game if Freddy wasn't here.

  • As you've said, the demands for every minor inconvenience to be removed from the game would increase. A lot.

Some players would lose a character that not only did they pay for, but also spent a lot of time and Bloodpoints on. There are P100 Skull Merchants after all, and those prestige journeys take time.

We would have one less killer to play as and against. Perhaps some players who have been here for a while would question why the same wasn't done for Legion back when their release was just as bad.

There would have to be refunds, extreme BPs and Iri Shards compensations, and considering the situation with Legacy I think some players would never even receive theirs.

    Overall, it would be awful.

  • No, I don't think there is a big conspiracy happening here.

BHVR is unlikely to sabotage its own product.

I think one of the biggest and most prevalent issues surrounding matchmaking is lobby dodging. As long as this persists and they prioritize quickness over fair matchmaking, the system will never work properly. I believe they should hide names and prestiges from the killer in the lobby and either some sort of disincentive to dodging or even remove the option all-together (not sure if this is even possible, people will just quit out the app, which is why disincentivizing is the more logical solution). But as long as lobby dodging is a thing (and it frequently happens) matchmaking will never work properly.

I don't think it changes much, to be honest.

You can join an empty lobby, watch the four survivors joining and still have an extremely unbalanced game where one side is clearly better than the other.

The system itself doesn't work, and I think that is the issue.

That is true, but at the same time Freddy has been one of their most tricky killers to balance and haven't truly gotten him right at all yet.

They did, on his very first version.

Freddy on-release was, in my honest opinion, the only perfect killer BHVR has ever designed. Even the Dream Transition not interrupting survivors wasn't nearly as bad with him as it was after the nerf, because he had other strengths to compensate.

But unfortunately, he only lasted for a week. A perfect week, but one week nonetheless.

Personally I'm completely against 2v8. It'll likely be a nightmare to balance and result in the least fun chases and gameplay out of all the suggestions I've seen.

5v5 would be much more easy to balance since its just 2 games of what we currently have playing out at the same time. It would be a much more interesting and fun concept in my opinion to see 2 teams each with 4 survivors and a killer performing a tug of war against each other; this compared to seeing 2 killers completely destroy a survivor in chase while the rest play gen simulator.

    @C3Tooth said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3643292#Comment_3643292

In all mode, 2v8 is my least favorite. I cant image 2 killers tunnel 1 by 1 and the other survivors rush Gens before their time come.

Someone else suggested this idea, a 5v5 mode. 1 side has 4 survivors and a killer. Objective is to complete their team's Gens and kill other team's survivors.

I can image the scene where a survivor in team A body block another one in team B so killer A can make a kill. Or body block a flashlight save ect..

It could be the most unbalanced stuff ever, but I want to play it.

  • It is extremely unlikely.

ANOES is difficult to work with. If I am not mistaken the license is split between a studio and whoever got the original rights from Wes Craven.

The fact that we have Freddy is already impressive.

  • Well, since the thread got revived I might as well give you my answer:

I always let a survivor go if they dropped their item or if they got sandbagged by their teammates.

Like that one Élodie who got intentionally sandbagged by a David, quite some time ago.

I will never forget her "Thanks Freddy".

  • I don't think it will happen. People have a negative opinion towards lootboxes, rightfully so, and I don't think they would even fit in DBD.

  • @Zachcjjj said:

freddy is the single worst killer in the game any decent team should not lose to freddy and if they do it should be due to a misplay that allows the freddy to use heavy slowdown perks or something alike

I don't think Freddy is the worst in the game, but it is close. Very close.

On some trials I've had survivors who didn't bother to wake up, because staying in the Dream World is not a threat anymore. This has the potential to backfire, and if it does then I'd say Freddy is in a slightly better spot than killers like Trapper.

But this is situational, of course. If the proper counterplay is used, then Freddy has very little going for him.

I would agree on that. The thing what was simply wrong back then was the insanely fast healing Speed. You were able to heal yourself in 5 seconds.

But I think instead of doing such a big Healing-Nerf they should have just capped Heal-Speed to a certain amount. That there is a minimum and maximum time it takes to heal yourself and regardless how much healing speed you stack, you will not be able to heal faster than the minimum time. (And also, regardless how much healing slowdown you stack, you cannot go over a maximum time)

This would also make balancing on both ends easier, because it would allow strong Perks or Add Ons without having to worry about how they will stack with other Perks/Add Ons.

That is a good suggestion, my friend. I believe it would work.

The big healing nerf just created a bad situation, especially with Sloppy Butcher being used often.

  • Thank you, my friend! I'm always happy to see pictures from the golden days.

It is good to remember that time when DBD was one of the best games I've ever played.

EDIT: Since this is a thread about Freddy, I'll leave a cool picture here.

    image.png
  • It might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Deathslinger really needed a nerf.

Zoning with ADS or not, I never considered him unbalanced or overpowered. I could escape from him just fine back in Rank 1.

  • I think Med-Kits were nerfed a bit too much.

If you go through older threads on the Forums you will see that Med-Kits were rarely complained about before Circle of Healing existed, because they were mostly considered to be fine by themselves.

Seems to me that it was only when healing was allowed to reach extreme levels that players began to truly complain about them.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/404340/fellow-freddy-players-do-you-feel-powerless-sometimes

You inspired me to drop a comment friend 😊

I agree freddy these days often feels rather powerless & I long for a day when a middle ground between old & new might be reached ( I know we all differ on exactly what that is) truth be told though these days I only play Freddy for daily challenges or to grind a little more on his achivements (switched to xbox after the rework so had to start again)

I think the biggest travesty of all though is I keep stats of my games in 2023 I played against 3 Freddy's the whole year!

Next lowest was Twins at 53

Hag was 3rd lowest at 57.

(Wesker was highest at 933 in case anyone is wondering) played just under 8,000 games on survivor in 2023.

I'll give freddy a few rounds tonight win or lose at least someone will get to see him!

I'm happy you decided to stop by, my friend :)

I'm still playing him a lot, of course. Trying to get him to P100, gotta catch up with everyone else who already finished the prestige journey for their mains while I was away from the game.

And his current state is just sad. Hard to believe he used to be that fun and unique killer we loved. If Nightlight is to be believed, he has the third lowest pick rate in the entire game.

Only 3 Freddys the whole year? This is something that really shouldn't have happened.

I wish you good luck on your games tonight, my dear friend. Please tell me if you get some interesting results.

And never lose hope! I'm sure we will get our killer back.

  • Patiently waiting for 2v8.

  • Freddy: I'd bring back Old Freddy and give him some buffs

    Spot on, my friend!

It is what we desperately need.

Keep the condemn cooldown (reduce it to 6-8 seconds preferably), remove the condemn stack lock limit the way it was in the PTB. Last two changes are excellent that will help her in chase. It's an improvement I guess but I still don't understand why the condemn limit needs to be locked.

I'd like to hear what a Sadako main thinks though, as they might have a better take on this.

I find it funny killers complain when survivors get perks that double down on things, but it's ok for their side. Why would anyone play Weaker, Blight or Bubba anymore when Billy now combines all of their attributes together into a rediculously overpowered killer?

I'd miss Bubba, but the less I see of Wesker and Blight the better it is.

  • I almost never farm. I always give hatch to survivors who dropped their items or got sandbagged by their teammates, but I try to avoid turning the match into a farming game.

Many players do not like to farm. It is better to just play normally.

Genuine question: Why on earth is everyone acting as though the Blindness only affects WoO?

Because it is the most used survivor perk in the game. It is far more likely for Blindness to affect WoO than to affect anything else, such as Alert or OoO.

  • @pseudechis said:

Not really... the forum is where people come to whine about things.

    • The game is getting old so there are whiny veteran players who miss the old days and whine about it.
    • You have whiny new players who can't figure things out for themselves so they whine about it.
    • You have the collective of players who've whined about the same things since the beginning, and still do no matter what changes, AKA the power whiners.
    • There are more killers, perks, mechanics and features, which means there are more options to whine about than ever before.
    • BHVR are always making and updating content and the game has lots of continuing support from the devs, so there is always something new to whine about.

So there is a lot of scope for whining, in fact its never been a better time to be a whiner playing DBD. Because if prone to whining you're spoilt for options to whine about.

Take it for what it is, a trivial and largely inconsequential discussion about a game... best enjoyed over a nice glass of wine. 🍷

The game is getting old so there are whiny veteran players who miss the old days and whine about it.

I take it I'm included on this one?

But honestly I wouldn't call it whining, I believe they are valid complaints. If you compare the game we have now with the game I bought in 2018, they feel like two different products entirely.

I don't necessarily have to like the direction the game has taken. As long as I do it respectfully, I can voice my displeasure about that.

  • Nah, I'd say it is the same it has always been.

Excellent feedback here, complaints there. The Forums are a mixed bag.

  • A pity I probably won't have the chance to test the combination I've always wanted to test, because my favorite killer is no longer here.

But do try to imagine this scenario with me:

Old Freddy applied a 50% action speed penalty to every survivor in the Dream World. Technically, searching a Jigsaw Box is an action.

So... if Old Freddy and Pig were together in a match, could he make it so that survivors would search Jigsaw Boxes at half the speed? I need to know if that would be possible.

I'm not really as pessimistic about this as others are. I am confident that her time is coming just like I was confident that blight would eventually get a basekit nerf. There is no justifiable reason for nurse to exist in her current state. I just don't think they can realistically put it off for much longer. How many other killers can they rework before nurse has her turn? It will be very interesting to see the roadmap for the second half of the year.

How many other killers can they rework before nurse has her turn?

    All of them.

We are DBD players, we see unnecessary changes all the time. Literally every killer in the game could get one while Nurse remains untouched.

EDIT: I just realized the way the thread was worded. Deleting content is never the answer, and it will never happen.

Nurse can receive changes for her power, or maybe she won't, but the character is here to stay. Every character is.

I meant, why is survivors doing their object bad. The only thing I can come up with is that it makes the game to fast for killer players. If that is what is bothering killer players then healing has been shown to slow the game down. It gives both sides breathing room and it doesn’t disrupt the balance of the game.

I see why people complain about camping and tunneling.

But I don’t see why “genrushing” is a problem since this is what Killer players seem to want over the slower games you get from a “healing” meta.

But I don’t see why “genrushing” is a problem since this is what Killer players seem to want over the slower games you get from a “healing” meta.

No one wants games that are over before there was even a chance for things to happen. Extremely fast-paced trials are some of the worst experiences you can possibly have in this game.

The "healing meta" killers disapproved of were mostly tied to the original iterations of Circle of Healing, because it didn't slow the game down, it merely deleted your progress as killer and made hit and run tactics essentially useless.

However, healing was unnecessarily nerfed after that. If you go through old threads on the Forums you will see that Med-Kits were rarely complained about before COH existed, because they were fine by themselves. It was only when healing was allowed to reach extreme levels that players began to truly complain about them.

Ahhhh our Freddy main. Hello again GeneralV 😃

The last time I ran him it was a splinter on my Myers wayyyyyyy before the major rework. I seem to recall it taking like 9 seconds to put a surv to sleep, and there was around 137 ways for them to wake themselves or each other up.

As for today's Freddy I just think he's even more of a noob-stomper than by beloved Piggy, all because few know how to deal with him in the beginning. Against decent survs, or really just those paying some attention during the game, he gets soul-drainingly weaker and weaker until he's almost useless. Sad, and he should he one of the most badass killers as a licenced one plus lots to draw from in all those movies. Even his mori seems uninspired and a lil lame.

You've got grapefruit sized cajones to main him in his current state my friend!

Hello, friend! It has been a while.

Truth be told, no matter what they do to Freddy I'll always main him. If his awful rework back in 2019 wasn't enough to make me abandon him then nothing is. But it feels bad, you know? It has been over four years since my favorite killer was literally taken away, and replaced with a boring mess.

A boring mess that often lacks a power to work with.

But I have hope I'll get my killer back eventually.

I just tunnel and camp if needed.

If people are complaining about a M1 Killer that loses his power as the game progress tunneling, that’s a skill issue on them.

Freddy only punishes people who aren’t good with pseudo stealth. Anyone who pays attention while doing gens won’t even give him free hits

I believe the only players Freddy actually punishes are the ones who completely disregard his counterplay, and even then it doesn't help him much.

A survivor paying no mind to Dream Pallets might grant you one hit or two, but in the grand scheme of things you still have situations in the trial where you play without a power, so it is kinda pointless.

  • He did great!

  • I really like the descriptions for the blighted cosmetics.

It is interesting how they get into details about the experiments: like Huntress being the first to be captured and injected with the Serum, how Sadako was actually over-injected, or how the procedure was so painful for the Oni that it fueled his rage.

Together with the lore from the Hallowed Blight and Withering Blight events, they really put into perspective just how dangerous the Pustula Flowers are and how messed up Talbot really is.

They have a dark, brutal feeling to them that DBD, as a horror themed game, should have.
