If there is one thing I still love about DBD it is those matches where everyone can have fun. No BM, no toxicity, just players enjoying what the game has to offer.
I really dislike the fact that countless things I liked in DBD were removed, reworked, or changed in some way. Especially Freddy's old power, as that is what matters most to me.

Yeah, there aren't as many Spirit players around as there used to be. I barely see her these days.

Hopefully they won't change him too much. Singularity is very fun to play against.

People complain their killers getting nerfed.
Only Freddy and Trapper complain after getting buffed.
And perhaps Sadako after the first rework.
But it is just like you said last year, my dear friend, those are killers that players like me and you knew how to use effectively, that we spent time learning and mastering. At the end of the day we just want our favorites to be fun.
-
Freddy! He will always be my favorite.

Pre-pre-rework Billy was easily stronger than current Bubba because of his better add-ons in the past and more consistent collision due to the realm beyond not taking place at the time of his prime. The older maps were a lot more forgiving for Billy.
However, with his enhanced base-kit, better collision, new add-ons (with some of his old ones returning even), being overall less map reliant and MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE!!! I am actually quite confident that he'll return as the prime chainsawer of DBD. I really can't wait for the update to drop on Tuesday so I can finally play the Drift Overlord without overheating.
Hillbilly will finally be back, my friend. It has been way too long.

Pretty sure "Meg" is also censored in end game chat. And GG sometimes. Really not a good indicator of what BHVR considers bad, just an indicator of a broken chat censor.
While I agree more could be done towards camping and tunelling, using examples like base-kit borrowed time and the anti-camp don't really prove anything. If they actually wanted something done, these would be stronger.
This.
And it is extremely unlikely they'll ever be made stronger because camping and tunneling aren't exploits or problems, they are strategies. Strategies which are acknowledged and recognized by the developers as valid.
A base-kit feature that impacts a valid strategy will never be strong enough to completely stop it, even if the strategy happens to be frowned upon. Which is why we need perks like Decisive Strike.
-
I'm happy for the Hillbilly mains out there who will finally get their killer back, but the sudden nerfs to Sadako really hurts this update.
Honestly, I'm more excited for the Lunar event.

All Hallows Eve was a pretty good event minus all the people crying about how OP Freddy was (different times lol)
Funny thing is as well is my first P100 is Meg, which was almost exactly 6 years later as it was done during the last Bone Chill Event.
Now Im looking to line up my first P3 killer which was Trapper back in March 2018 to him being my first P100 hopefully in March of this year :)
Poor Freddy, barely a week in and already nerfed. He should have been given more time, those people would learn how to play against him eventually.
And it is cool that you've managed to line up your prestiges, it makes them special. I don't have a P100 character yet, it hasn't been long since I came back to the game. But if I'll reach that level with a character, it will obviously be Freddy.
And maybe Claudette after that, if I feel like doing it.
-
We should revert all layouts back to that one patch that had the original map adjustments (before the big reworks) and then never change them again.

Winter Solstice 2017 is the event I got a new PC (that eventually died like 3 months later :( ) and also when I got my first P3 character being Meg. Friend of mine also started playing around the same time and we would play the game for hours back then. Overall, good times.
Sounds like a bloody good time! Well, except for the PC.
I wasn't around for All Hallows' Eve, unfortunately. But it looks awesome, the theme is fire and that was when Freddy released, so it has a special meaning. And I just love Halloween.
It is interesting that your first P3 is connected to an event, in a way. Mine was just randomly achieved after a long journey that cost me my last Glass Splinter >:(

If I recall what one of the devs/lead techs said once in a Q&A stream...
They said that they want to keep backgrounds tied to current events in the name of keeping the game "alive" and dynamic.
Not those exact words but it was the gist of it.
Someone asked a question about this topic in the Reddit AMA.
But the question wasn't answered, they just said it would be "fun" if we could select the menu we want then asked the person which one was their favorite.
Edit: Found it
Q: Is it possible that at some point we can change the appearance of the lobby? depending on the skin for example or freely
A: That'd be fun! Which past lobby is your favourite? - Dave

Old DBD, at distance you can only see silhoutte of characters (hard to tell who). The further they are, the green tone of Auto heaven apply to them more.
This.
You can also see it on Coldwind Farm. While the pre-reworked version of that realm had matching Fog, the new one is just some random wisps of smoke. It looks really bad.

I would put on the All Hallows' Eve menu and never change it again.

The Lunar event usually has its own.
But honestly they should just make them all available and let us choose the one we want.
-
Edit:
I just realized how tricky this question can be, because it depends o one's definition of an anti-loop killer. Pig and Freddy both have abilities that can be used on loops, but haven't been mentioned here. Though that could be because Pig's dash isn't something you see being used by every Pig you go against and Freddy's Dream Snares / Pallets are both boring.
Killers like Huntress, Hillbilly and Leatherface immediately come to mind as good examples. It is on killers like Nemesis, Artist and Xeno that it gets bad.

Counter-Counter-Counter point: It's not just DS that's active in these situations. Other survivors can bodyblock, basekit BT can extend it, other survivors can run unhook perks and BT to extend the time, etc etc and guarantee an escape, even in live now without DS, and all that revision does is punish the killer for managing a down against those odds regardless if the survivor has the ability to miss a skillcheck.
Counter-counter-counter-counter point: There isn't anything wrong with a coordinated save against a facecamper at the end game. They are never guaranteed to work.
Unless you mean the only problematic aspect was DS still being active at the end of the game, then I see your point.
-

Counter point: Survivors shouldn't be guaranteed an escape if they were caught endgame. If there's 3 other survivors, they already have a really good chance of escaping the unhook without additional aid. The changes were made because there are hooks close enough to the exit gate that guarantee escape with these active at endgame. Heck, some are still guaranteed with basekit BT.
Counter-counter point: I never said survivors should be guaranteed an escape.
Maybe they missed their Decisive, maybe you had Blood Warden on stand-by. All fair play.
The end game is no place for pity kills or escapes, it is part of the game. I don't mind if DS doesn't activate at the end, but I don't think it was as bad as it is said to have been.
-
It shouldn't have been changed, tbh.

Thanks :)
Well, of course it is possible to secure wins without tunneling, but it has become much, much harder of late, with the survivors prioritising gens before anything else and splitting up has no downside. Sometimes you can spook a survivor away from a gen, while chasing another, but the good survivors will return to the gen the very second your back is turned on them. Literally. And this leads to the infamous 3 gens popping by the time the first chase concludes.
If this happens, you got 1 hook and the survivors only have 2 gens to go, what are you going to do at this point? Well, you can try to defend gens and hunt someone new and pingpong between them and the first hooked survivor, this is kinda the most "fair" way to handle it, but even then survivors will complain that you ignored one or two of them.
I know that I am pretty alone on this hill, but I think the early game can too easily be a desastrous for the killer, like you picked the wrong survivor, they get away and then 3 gens pop without even one hook. I personally would want a PTB to explore the possibilty of prohibiting splitting up at the very beginning by making gens repair extremely slow and inefficient when all 7 are still standing, but this inefficiency malus going away as more and more gens get done and the map shrinks. It just feels aweful to have so many gens pop in unision and knowing that you are already backed against the wall, while the match has barely started. To compensate for this, we could also implement some hard anti tunneling mechanics while the survivors havn't completed many gens, like if you pick up a survivor at 4 gens that you just hooked, they get an auto DS (5s) and free unbreakable if you slug them, thus incentivising the killer to go after fresh prey.
Of course, stuff like this is taking agency away and make the game play more to a script, but this would be an option to slow down the early game. My ideas here are just brainstorming level, though, so don't come down hard on my by pointing out holes in them. But thats the general idea that I would try to go for: make splitting up early undesirable and give survivors hard anti-tunneling during the early game. I don't think that the game would suffer with such new mechanics.

While I am a stoud opponent of basekit mechanics, as this dilutes the perk variety of the game and even more solidifies the meta, there is one basekit that I propose every time I get the chance for:
(old) BBQ. In the past every killer had BBQ equipped for the blood point bonus, and many survivors hated the aura reading part, but the vast majority didn't realize what good this did for the game. Killers had it equipped for the BP, but every hook showed them opportunities and thus peeled them away from the hook.
So, why not combine the two effects into a basekit incentive for the killer? They get the old +25% bonus BP for each survivor hooked, BUT only as long as all four survivors are still alive. If you tunnel the first survivor out you are stuck with +25% bonus BP etc. Also, upon hooking you see the aura of a single random survivor that hasn't been hooked yet. Once all 4 survivors have been hooked, no more basekit aura reading will be shown, but at that time the killer has chased and hooked every survivor and spread their hooks around. A mechanic like this would again put "hooking every survivor once" back again as a personal quest on many killers agenda, instead of just having kills as their only means of success.
I believe we can solve both problems simultaneously by reverting BBQ back to its previous version. And WGLF, of course. Can't have one without the other.
BBQ was not only a great incentive for you to go after other survivors, but it has the added benefit of costing a perk slot while also having a great secondary effect. It is one less regression perk for a killer to run, and they are rewarded by doing so.
It would help a lot.

No, you don't look at the .0001% when discussing overall balance.
This.
The problem with the whole "balance around high MMR" is that most people aren't there. Changing things solely based on situations experienced only by a small minority would hurt the overall majority of players around.
DBD is not a competitive game, it never was and it never will be. That is why tournaments are external. There is a different priority here.

When I explained one game in the post game chat that I hard tunneled, because the survivors all split up and put so much pressure on my and gave me no breathing room, everywhere I went, there was a gen 75% done, I was accused of tripping and being ludicrous.
Survivors splitting up on gens was not the norm 2 years back, but 6.1 made it so, and now you can't put the genie back into the bottle. Nowadays survivors know that splitting up is THE most efficient way to tackle gens, so nearly everyone is doing it as the standard MO and killers are not allowed to question this, but have to live with the consequences.
But really, this is one of the main culprits of why matches these days go by so fast and both sides feel like they are backed against the wall and need to DO someting: both sides discovered the most efficient way to play during the 6.1 aftermath and the game has never been the same, since.
And games are so fast these days, you can't just easily switch gears when you are stomping, most of the time its too late at that point. Also, not sealing the deal at that point might still cost you the game. Survivors often complain that the killer tunneled at "4 gens left", ignoring the fact that 3 of this 4 gens were being worked at and at 50-75% done. If the killer switched targets at that point, it would be "ggeeeez", so tunneling is the only option to not loose in an embarrassing way.
The fun, kinda tense games of the past, where the killer found one survivor, chased and eventually downed them, while one gen popped, then they roamed and found another survivor, downed them, another gen popped while the survivor on hook got rescued, thats not coming back. The efficiency on both sides dictate that 2-3 gens pop by the end of the first chase, and this puts the killer already in such a bad spot that the gloves come off and the tunneling starts at one hook.
You bring up some good points here.
I don't necessarily agree with tunneling being required, I think it is still possible to secure a win without doing it. But I definitely agree with what you said regarding the change in playstyles after the meta "adjustments".
I really miss the days where survivors only had Dead Hard to work with, because the rest of their build was made to counter tunneling and slugging, while the killer didn't resort to those strategies because he had BBQ stacks to collect. Was playing as effectively and as scummy as possible a possibility? Yes, but it wasn't the normal scenario of an average trial and that was an excellent thing.
Reading through patch notes 6.1.0 again, it is no wonder that it caused playstyles to be shifted and eventually led to unfun situations. There is just so much wrong with that patch that it is hard to know where to start.
I know some people disagree with me when I say this game was better in the past, and they have every right to do so, but I don't think anyone would truly be opposed to going back to the gameplay you've described as the fun and kinda tense games we used to have.
Although that would require changing the way people approach this game, and that isn't easy to do.

Chases shouldn't last a couple of seconds, but like I said, bad maps and strong Killers change things lol.
You get Rotten Fields against Trickster, you just kinda die since the map is 90% open.
Conversely, Freddy on Asylum isn't particularly fair for him and that's quite the understatement.
Asylum isn't that bad for Freddy. But if you get RPD, may the Entity have mercy upon you because the game won't.

but it kinda contradicts with art and gameplay direction
But if it did, then Eyrie wouldn't have a good level of Fog with the Murky Reagent, considering that map is not a part of the Old DBD.
I don't think the Fog should suffer the tragic fate the maps suffered. We should have more of it, not less.

Ive only seen a select few who complain about this
I think I've actually seen it happen a couple times throughout the years. Or at least it looks like it happens.
You hold the button to go for a lunge, but the game suddenly changes it to a short attack. It is very disorienting.
-
Unfortunately there isn't much you can do. If SoloQ was already the same as rolling a dice every game, after MMR was introduced it became even worse.
There is also the matter of killer games being either stomp or be stomped.
This system simply does not work, I strongly believe it needs to be scrapped.
-
Yes, I think we need more Fog now than ever before.
The Fog isn't just a feature that affects gameplay. It is an aspect of the lore, it is extremely important for the horror atmosphere (which has suffered greatly in recent years), even the developers themselves sign their posts with "See you in The Fog!". It is a central aspect of Dead by Daylight and it needs to be here.
And honestly, I don't think the current lack of Fog is a consequence of the direction the game has gone, after all Eyrie of Crows has an excellent level of Fog if you use an Murky Reagent and when that map was added to the game many others had already been ruined. The current lack of Fog is just a problem to be solved.
I think they should increase the level of Fog every map has at base, readjust the levels of Fog on Freddy's Dream World (which used to be excellent) and decrease the Murky Reagent's rarity from Very Rare back to Rare, as it was prior to patch 1.8.2

From what I understood, you were supposed to play Freddy more or less like how people play Legion today. You tagged as many people with your power to make them fall asleep, then once they were asleep, you would track them down with the perma-aura reading you got on them. He sucked at starting and ending chases, but he was good at tracking and slowing down progress.
If you didn't find anyone else, you would definitely feel the 7 second sleep cycle (think of pre-rework Legion taking a 4s stun to hit someone).
He sucked at starting and ending chases
He was good at starting chases, mostly because you couldn't see him until you were put to sleep. If he did it extremely close to you, then he could catch up quickly.
Alternatively, you could try to use the glimpses to mindgame survivors. It was very fun to do (having a 5.5 or 6 seconds Transition worked best for that, I still remember).
The rest of the chase was a regular one, but everything else he had available more than compensated for it.

It's mainly because of the nerf from the PTB, which many didn't expect because they thought it gave her a better chance in the Trials. Some get very over-dramatic in response (embarrassingly so), but nevertheless there is a change which makes her less viable. I'd still say she'll be getting over 50% kills on her average, but depends on where it all lands.
Anyway, regardless of all the hot air, one of the mods on here has already confirmed that, although she will be going live in this state, they will be modifying her due to the outcry, so expect some changes in minor updates in the following weeks.
To be honest, I don't think there was anything over-dramatic about the response.
People were respectful, they didn't insult the developers or did anything unreasonable, they were just caught off-guard by a sudden change that no one asked for. These things hurt particularly deep when they happen to your favorite killer, I'd know.
Thankfully the feedback was heard, acknowledged and there will be changes happening to her.

What are you on about with dead dog? It has one of the most OP main buildings in the game. Sure garden of joy is the worst, and this is probably tied with asylum for 2nd. You literally shouldn't bother even going there as a killer because good survivors can waste so much of your time.
Dead Dawg is way too small, it has far too many weak loops, deadzones and a nerfed shack.
Sure, the main building is good. But the rest isn't.
-
I think what you'll want to do is waste the killer's time, make sure they stay in chase for as long as possible. Pain Res, DMS and Grim Embrace all require hooks to activate, and Ultimate Weapon isn't a perk that helps in chases.
The only problem is that this relies on the map you get being a decent one, and some maps are in the worst spots they've ever been. If you get a map like Dead Dawg Saloon or Rancid Abattoir, I'm not sure there is much you can do.
-
I'm curious to see how it will work with Freddy's Dream World.
-
That is pretty cool, I like the idea.
But I do wonder what happens if you play Dredge. Or how this is going to look on Freddy's Dream World.

This together with Sadako right now would make me quit the game.
If memory serves me right, Pig's most severe nerfs were the ones aimed at her end game potential, around the time EGC was added to the game.

Unfortunately, it is a possibility. It is good that they realized that no one wanted those changes, but now there is the matter of actually fixing her.
