Hook well earned.
Yep.
It happened to me as survivor during the Moonrise event.
I was playing against Freddy and I admit I was getting a bit cocky. He is my main, I know how Freddys play, surely I would be able to read him like a book.
Well... until Blood Warden happened.

Until i havent seen the "adjustments" im not getting my hopes up. Im super sorry.
And you're absolutely correct, my friend. We know for sure things will change now, but we still have to wait and see what exactly those changes are.

Hey y’all, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. It’s clear that the changes we’re making to The Onryo didn’t live up to expectations, so we’re preparing a series of follow-up adjustments to address the feedback we’ve received. These adjustments are planned to release as part of the minor updates in the weeks following the Mid-Chapter. We’ll be sure to share more details once we have a plan locked in.
Very good news!
-
Ok, so Peanits just posted this comment:
We're still going to have to wait and see how things will change, but this is good. Perhaps the patch is still going to be a step in the right direction for both Onryo and Hillbilly.

Nah, probably not.

None, actually.
I wanted to use the Shock Splinter and New Moon Bouquet charms, because they are directly connected to the Old DBD, but I didn't get them when they were available.

If I had to choose which killer to nerf from that PTB (Sadako or Billy) it would of 100% been Billy. He was actually insane and I can already tell he's going to be complained about when he reaches live.
Might not be immediately, but I dont see him being the golden child for too long
Now, does that mean I think hes overpowered? No as I havent played enough of him and PTB has MMR all over the place, even moreso than usual. But from what I can see he might be a little overtuned.
Honestly, Hillbilly felt fine to me during the PTB. Playing against him again was nice, even nostalgic.
It is mostly Onryo I'm concerned about. Especially the implications this situation has for further killer changes.

Original Freddy (with some tweaks) needs to return. As does the PTB rendition of Onryō.
They've done us so wrong here and I'm actually devastated.
I genuinely had the 30th marked in my calendar as the day the Alan Wake chapter and Onryō rework drops. Now I don't have any desire to play.🤷
I completely agree, my friend.

Yeah they told us this back in September on their Twitter Q&A. I have been cautiously optimistic about it, but I feel like for every good killer change they make they kill our faith with like five bad changes to others.
https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3634686#Comment_3634686
I agree. The basic premise of Michael is great. They captured the feel of the character from the movies. They just need to buff his existing kit rather than rework it.
That is why I say the word "rework" is like a bad omen around here, with Freddy and Hillbilly being the most infamous examples of what shouldn't be done to a character.
Now, in the same patch they finally fix Billy, they hurt Sadako in the process.

It didnt matter AGAIN.
This time it feels especially insulting because i have a badge on my profile, that specificly states, that they read the feedback.
Yes, that makes the situation even worse. The developers are aware of the praise Old Freddy receives, but it has to be taken into consideration. Feedback is useless if it isn't acknowledged.

There was a lot of feedback for Sadako on the PTB, but it didn't seem to matter.
This is what really has me worried here. They made a pinned thread for that feedback and they had a lot to work with. But then they came up with this! It's shameful. Had they made no changes at all, it would be one thing. But nerfing her? This is concerning.

It‘s just stupid, that Sadako is weaker than her first version with those changes. I‘ve waited for them to announce to remove the Tv auras for survivors (except of the targeted one).
If this change goes live, I doubt you want a Fredy rework like that Sadako one.
And to think things were going so well! It was a massive jump in the right direction, everyone was so excited when the PTB was announced...
There is still enough time to fix things, of course, but this is a terrible situation.

Sometimes it's best to keep things as is.
I'm very certain whatever they can come up with Freddy will only make him worse. The best they can do is buff the existing one.
Not in his case. Not after four years of a dull, boring and uninteresting power.
The right thing can be done for Freddy, I know it can.
@katoptris said:
There a chance Freddy will be reverted and hope his addons as well back to the og.
The mere thought makes me happy, my friend. It is what we need, what I've been hoping for since July of 2019.
@Xernoton said:
The interesting thing is that they actually nerfed the Greased Throttle and Thompson Mix because this is how it worked on the PTB. They only toned down the numbers and added the bugged extra as an intended effect. Not sure how I feel about this but I get the feeling, that this is not good. Because this is a number that shouldn't be tempered with. Not now after they already buffed his base recovery.
The other addons are still not good. They need new effects. Changing their numbers will not do the trick.
But Sadako is where I draw the line. These changes remind me of Forever Freddy's downfall. Only Sadako wasn't that strong to begin with. She was in a good spot on the PTB. But this just terrible. They did not discourage condemned tunneling. In fact, that is pretty much untouched. Although, why tunnel, when slugging is more effective? I don't have the words to describe my disappointment.
These are dark times, when Sadako is nerfed but Blight gets to keep some busted addons. Now I'm worried for Freddy.
I think these changes are eerily similar to Overheat being introduced to the game or Freddy getting a full rework: all things that shouldn't have happened.
I am trying to make my thoughts clear on this matter, my friend, but I am not sure how effective it will be. There was a lot of feedback for Sadako on the PTB, but it didn't seem to matter.

You still hope for good rework when they continue to violate Sadako like that?
I'm very much sure this new Billy change will receive it's treatment in a month or two. It's a classic scenario where killer gets some popularity after rework or buff and then gets nerfed to C- tier and is only played by hardcore fans in the scummiest way possible,
I know the situation doesn't look good, but it has been over four years since my favorite killer just ceased to exist.
I have to try, I have to insist on this matter whenever I can.

I agree. It is astonishing that they actually nerfed Sadako.
STBFL nerf, Ruin and Quick Gambit still being garbage, and no buff for Alan Wake perks.
This developer update would be one of the worst ever if they also nerfed Hillbilly.
I sincerely don't understand why Onryo was nerfed. This is as unnecessary as Freddy being nerfed a week after his release or Overheat's existence.
There was a lot of feedback regarding Sadako, there was even a pinned post about it. This nerf shouldn't have happened.
-
Nope, there are better perks available.
-
Your thoughts, my friends?
EDIT:
I'll add my own thoughts on the matter here because I just realized how bad this situation is.
Overall, most Onryo mains here were happy with the return of her old kit with improvements. And it was more than a good change, it was a massive jump in the right direction.
Then why nerf it? Why change things that weren't issues in the first place? No one asked for her to be nerfed, she didn't need it. Why change something people enjoy?
This PTB had given me a lot of hope for Freddy, but now I'm a bit concerned. This is bad.

the killer probably should have. and it's possible they had good times to switch targets during the chase, and just leave op for last.
but like I said, at that point they were in too deep. Realizing when to give up a bad chase is a learned skill.
also, disagree on the first one. short first chase means you have the time to engage in a different chase with another survivor.
Realizing when to give up a bad chase is a learned skill.
Especially since the killer was a Freddy. Knowing when to drop a chase is a must for playing Freddy properly, it always has been.

So I accurately predicted the return of The Thompson's Mix. Nice!

I'm usually running Corrupt Intervention, Pain Res, STBFL and Brutal Strength. If you see a Freddy with that build, maybe it is me :)
-
Intentionally sandbagging a teammate used to be the only thing that completely changed my playstyle from spreading hooks to getting someone out ASAP. Every survivor team is better without a sandbagger around.
But after a recent trial on Ironworks of Misery, I'm adding something to the list: Boil Over. You know how killer players used to hate the old Object of Obsession? Yeah, same thing, different perk.
-
I first saw the Skull Merchant when she was already available on the PTB because someone told me about her, and I was happy for the brazilian representation, even if she doesn't look nearly as scary as other killers do (this can always be fixed with cosmetics).
But overall I liked her, because I had no idea what her power even was, I was having a break from DBD at the time. I only played against her original version once, and I don't know whether or not she tried to go for a 3 gen because she tunneled me out when there were 2 gens remaining to go.
-
Honestly, it is hard to say. I'm currently on vacation and I am playing DBD almost the same way I played during the old days, so it must be quite a lot of matches per day.

What fascinates me the most is when there's a post that uses an acronym when referring to a killer add-on, especially when it's a lesser used/discussed one. Abbrevations aren't too hard to understand, but such acronyms become damn near impossible to decipher if you aren't super familiar with the killer in question. It's a jargon sphere within the jargon sphere. And as such... the inverse happens and people rarely use them.
The only ones I can think of that do have acronyms are the best-known ones, because of their notoriety (Spirit's MDR, Blight's C33).
Don't forget Freddy's RPB.

I think it depends on whether you tend to verbally discuss topics, or through text. Acronyms are difficult to pronounce unless they are conveniently pronouncable (NOED), so you don't see content creators use acronyms. Abbrevations (Pop) are more favoured, for obvious reasons.
Us Forumites, however, are not typically discussing verbally, so we're free to use acronyms. On that same token, though, you're not gonna find such acronyms in spaces that aren't dedicated to DbD as a topic. It's jargon at its purest. Indecipherable if you aren't familiar with the context. It also carries connotations of "We know what we're talking about," for better or worse,
Gaming discourse in general loves it's acronyms, likely because it's mostly discussed through text.
It is pretty fun that a player can come here and say a survivor was using DH, DS, UB and BT while the killer was running STBFL, NOED, PGTW and DMS and everyone instantly understands what the person is talking about.

Hello, Shaped! It is good to see ya here, my friend. Hope you're doing well.

Most players just don't like going against stacked regression perks, even if the perks themselves aren't overpowered or unhealthy for the game.
I guarantee that if there was a chance to return to a meta which lacked most regression perks, almost everyone would take it.

This is also a true statement, I suppose the biggest issue for new players now, is the sheer amount of content to learn. Like all the new map configurations, all the different killers powers, perk combos, add-ons... as well your own damn builds, and where to even start... I literally told a friend of mine "Just play Feng Min... she has 3 perks that are decent to get going with if you're new".
Oh trust me, I understand how that is. I joined around the time Legion first released.
I heard the legend of OG Legion... there are a few points in DBD history where whenever anyone says "Bring back old DBD", you have to wonder... are you remembering right? I think your brain may have blotted out parts of your memory to protect you? xD
P.S: I just saw that everyone was calling Rivers of Blood overpowered and I immediately decided I wanted that weapon. Although I changed it for the Hand of Malenia when I got it.
Malenia straight up my favourite boss in the entire Soulsborne series... and that's a harsh competition. As a dex/dodge build, it was the most fair and rewarding fight of the whole series of games. A lot of people hate her, and I understand why, but for my playstyle Malenia was the ultimate skill test that demanded true mastery of her moveset to win. Ice pots can get stuffed ^^
Although technically a bleed weapon, bleed is low on HoM... and legit is one of my favourite weapons in the game... I used to help people vs. Elden Beast and cosplay as her often ^^
I think MMR also plays a part on that. With the system being the way it is, a new player can be sent to play against opponents who are clearly above their skill level. There is a chance someone's initial experience won't be as beginner-friendly as it used to be. Ranks were not perfect, but they certainly did a better job than MMR does, across all levels.

Well, I would 100% support bringing back the Old DBD, but there are exceptions. While I do believe it was overall a better game, you will never see me asking for Old Legion to return. Nor the original Mettle of Man.

I suppose it's fair to say there is the elephant in the room aye that learning killer powers/perks is extremely important for survivors, and doing that first handed as a killer is FAAAAAAR easier... your killer knowledge is invaluable when playing survivor... I've played with survivors mains who have like 3 years of experience on me, and half the time I call out a perk and they have no idea what I'm talking about xD
I mean, I myself rather enjoyed my new player life back in May last year... and that was me joining at the same point Skull Merchant came into the game... on reflection maybe I'm actually a closet psychopath and never realised it... xD
P.S. Bleed builds are filthy overpowered in ER. I made the fatal mistake of playing ER like I did in Dark Souls, and made a non-bleed dex build because I like those types of weapons... if you've ever made a non-bleed dex build in Elden Ring, well... you'll know why that's funny. 😅
And vice-versa, of course. Playing as survivor is extremely important if you want to improve as killer, because you'll have a better understanding of their perks, strategies and the multiple ways they can approach the game. Overall, DBD as an experience really shines when you play both sides, even if you play one of them slightly more than the other.

I'm aware of that but you would think this is something they could override.
I think they would do it if the algorithm had selected Nowhere to Hide. Perhaps Plaything's bug isn't considered problematic enough for the perk to not even be offered in the shrine.

I wish it applied to chest items, I enjoy looting the boxes when I have a free moment. Up the Ante and Luck Offerings should slightly increase the chances for better items, and add a small chance for add-ons to appear on those items. Plunderer's Instinct continues to buff the chances for items, and Ace in the Hole buffs the chances for add-ons, while still doing the other things they do.
This.
Very good suggestion.

DBD is like Counter Strike. It's an easy enough game to understand the idea and start playing... but the moment you go against other players, you're instantly met with a huge gulf in map knowledge, game awareness and skill.
If you're someone who likes to be really chill and not serious in games, and want to win without much effort (i.e. the Explorer Mode type players), the new survivor experience is awful. If you're someone who enjoys being challenged, and has a thirst for learning deep and complicated mechanics, the new player experience is great imo. Killers are actually scary when you're new, and you feel this constant sense of dread whenever you hear the TR.
Honestly I never minded being camped or tunneled when I started playing, because I was just swallowing the atmosphere, and to this day few things give me a rush as much as committing to opening a gate and praying the killer doesn't come back check before you can get the gate open.
I guess if you're a Soulsborne type player who scoffed at summons, coop, bleed builds, stagger builds, and all forms of busted magic attacks in Elden Ring, you'll probably be fine in DBD.
Killers are actually scary when you're new, and you feel this constant sense of dread whenever you hear the TR.
I remember my very first match in Dead by Daylight: it was against a Huntress on the old version of Azarov's Resting Place, and I was terrified. Huntress is very scary when you are a new player, and the horror atmosphere was far better back then.
After some trials I went back to the Main Menu, listened to this banger:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wdcp8xl5WPQAnd switched to killer, for my first trial as my beloved Old Freddy. From there it begins the process of learning everything that can be learned about the game and its mechanics.
Unfortunately the new player experience seems to be really bad these days, especially because of MMR. I wish everyone had a blast with their first trials, as I did back then.
PS: Why scoff at bleed builds in Elden Ring if instead you can use them?

I find Xeno more frustrating to go against than boring. Because there is not much to do against Xeno, they either M1 you or hit the Tail eventually, it is one of those "Leave Loop get hit, stay at loop get hit"-Killers.
But the turrets add more frustration, because I rarely see Xeno forced out of its power with them. Mainly because almost all Xenos use the helmet.
"Leave Loop get hit, stay at loop get hit"-Killers.
The kind of killer design everyone was tired of. A pity Xeno is just another one of those, because the character had potential.

I did not mean to imply anything about the strength of regression perks. Just that killers have to end chases for the good ones to work.
I cannot say how good the old version of Ruin (the one with skill checks) actually was. I simply wasn't around back then. Although, I imagine that this perk must have been terrible for beginners and less skilled survivors. I considered Ruin a pretty healthy perk overall because it required the killer to chase and it had a pretty good but fair effect (although old Undying must have been a huge pain in the Ace).
To be honest though, I think Ruin was past its prime anyway. Boon perks have lead to many survivors actually learning common totem spawns and that meant Ruin was more likely to be found. It was still pretty good but the risk of it just deactivating early on was huge. Maybe that's just my own perception though.
I think the current regression meta is mostly fine. It has its flaws but so did Ruin. The only issue I have with it is, that killers with trouble in chase can't capitalise on them as well as they'd need.
Just a little something I wanted to point out :)
The original versions of Ruin were really good perks. Even though it was possible to power through those Hex Skill Checks, most survivors would go on a totem hunt when they saw Ruin was being used. It was a perk made to slow the game down... just a little bit (props if you get this reference), and it did a wonderful job. So much so that immediately after the rework some killers got a bit confused as to what they should run and how to approach the game, especially around Green Ranks. Those were some of the easiest trials I ever had as survivor.
People did realize the potential of Reworked Ruin eventually, but the perk really shined when Undying first came out. Every game had that combination, the infamous Ruin + Undying meta. Also the only reason why I bought Blight and leveled him up. Boons were eventually released and changed things a bit, but the original Undying was no longer around when that happened.
I think the current meta is a bit excessive on the stacked gen defense perks, but I understand why it is that way.
-
Twins are the rarest, definitely. I came back to the game around Chucky's release after a long break and so far I've only seen them once.
Hillbilly is rare, but I'm sure that will change next week. Singularity is another one I'd say is rare. Maybe Skull Merchant, but I see her more often than the other three.
I know some people say my favorite killer is rare these days, but surprisingly I do get Freddy from time to time. It is luck, I guess.
