We will get Freddy back, my friend. One way or another he will return to us and when it happens, it will be glorious.

Out of all the flawed reworks BHVR did to killers, this was the worst. Billy's initial rework sure wasn't good but Freddy's was way worse and the onslaught of nerfs that followed are inexplicable. I get nerfing a killer that is overperforming. But by that much? They basically nerfed everything about his base kit and then continued to nerf his synergy with different perks when he was down already.

I am certain, my friend :)

The whole situation with Freddy was a mess. I remember quite well the rework and the nerfs that followed. Definitely a bad time to be playing DBD if you were a Freddy main.

The rework was DEVASTATING, in my honest opinion the worst change they have ever done to this game. And the nerfs never fixed his actual problems. If you look through my posts here from 2021 you'll see I defended a power I never truly wanted, because I knew his nerfs were not going in the right direction.

Not a happy tale, my friend. Not at all.

EDIT: Heh, I actually found one:

Ok but this does fit the topic of discussion. You might be attempting to prove that she can be beaten thanks to a few lucky survivors on your squad that were willing to stay. However it still doesnt change the fact that the majority of the community do not like her because she isnt interactive or skillfull like the rest in the cast which leads to ppl giving up more likely in solo q. We wouldnt even be continuing to have this discussion many times on this forums, if she wasnt a problem for this community. Regardless, she will be dealt it in the future

Then it is their fault for leaving the game just because they do not like the killer. And we shouldn't change killers due to bad behaviour.

Agreed. In my opinion Freddy's biggest flaws are:

    • A lack of agency. You can only play in very predictable ways with him because his power is so straight forward. There isn't really anything you can do to surprise survivors with his kit. Everything is telegraphed very clearly and he only has 2 abilities.
    • Too many safety measures. Think of how many things the devs have put in place to keep him in check. There are currently 5 ways to wake up: Adrenaline (I'm glad, they'll remove that), missed skill checks (Why do you need an iri addon just to not be countered by survivors messing up skill checks?), alarm clocks, wake up interaction and getting hooked. No other killer has that many restrictions to their power.
    • Too much counterplay for too little play. Without the Paintbrush, you can basically force him to play pure M1 killer the entire game. Usually, counterplay should be in place to give survivors a chance to delay the killer. But here it feels like Freddy is in place to delay the counterplay, which doesn't even work because they wake up even when you hook them.
    • The absolute lack of creativity in his power. What reason does anyone have to play Freddy? It's only the character. The power is so dull, that you really have no reason to play him for that.

Freddy should be the master of the dream world. A real threat any time survivors fall asleep. But right now he feels more like a Sharp Hand Joe than the dream demon Freddy Krueger himself. They could do so many interesting things with Freddy. There could be dream hooks, illusions, fake alarm clocks, fake team mates all combined with his old kit. He could have one of the most unrestricted mobility powers because pretty much anything could be used for him to teleport to and it would still make sense.

Why does it feel like Freddy is only a part of the dream world rather than the one who is in control of it? Why is he almost as much of a theat outside the dream world? How can he be in the dream world the entire time but survivors that are awake can see him, stun him and be hit by him? Even just the implementation of his power doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

You can blame that awful rework for that. A single patch deleted the most unique killer we ever had and replaced him with this thing we have in the game.

Obviously he was stronger back then, but already boring. The nerf just made him weak, on top of the problems he already had.

It has been four, almost five years with Freddy being like this.

  • To be fair, the EGC wasn't created to actually give the killer kills or put extra pressure on the survivors. It was created to force trials to end, because supposedly there were several reports of players holding the game hostage.

In my experience players holding the game hostage didn't happen often, and if the situation really needed to be fixed I believe it should have done differently. But the EGC does exactly what it was created to do.

I believe everyone can agree that she isnt a high tier killer like how sadako's previous iteration(she was still a low tier killer even tho her killrate was very high). But all you are showing is proving that the community values a killer that is fun to go against. Regardless how strong or weak they are. If the community believes she is unfun to go against even though she isnt even a strong killer, then the devs need to do something about that once again.

That may be, but I don't think this fits the topic of discussion here. The thread is about SM being difficult to handle in Solo Queue, and I'm trying to prove that she can be beaten.

Whether or not she has to be changed due to fun, or lack of, seems to be a topic for another discussion.

Dude, that doesn't make you a "master", but still makes you far more experienced than the majority of players one is likely to find while playing the game. This new match results you just showed had a p. 58 Dwight with strong perks and an Iri add-on. That's way above average. I also had a 4-man escape against a Skull Merchant recently, but guess what? Not only there were two P100 survivors in my team who were playing really well and even made a perfect FTP+Buckle Up play once, the killer was playing far more chill than this other two SM matches I showed: not camping, avoiding to tunnel altogether, not 3-genning and only focusing on chases against a different survivor everytime. That is clearly different, and according to unnoficial data (Nightlight), less than 14% of her games end in 4 escapes (That's less 0Ks than Bubba, who can just facecamp at the endgame to garantee at least one kill), while according to OFFICIAL data, she is the only killer in the game who has an average kill rate that is closer to 3K than to 2K.

But do you think the average survivors can counter these scenarios in my screenshots? The same average survivors who struggle against proxy-camping Ghostfaces vs a proxy camping Skull Merchant with a large drone area occupying the path to the hooked survivor AND who gains haste everytime someone gets scanned? The same who take long to find gens in indoor maps vs a killer who makes entire rooms and corridors hostile to traverse?

Well, I can only share my own experience with ya, just as you can only share yours.

You have screenshots of two trials where survivors struggled against Skull Merchant's power, while I have screenshots of two trials where they didn't. I believe both are valid for our arguments.

From my understanding you don't consider our experiences as "average", but I don't think it invalidates them. The scenarios and situations we've seen with Skull Merchant are undeniably helpful to help us paint a proper picture of her current state in the game.

Otherwise, there is no way for us to progress this discussion any further.

  • It wouldn't be too strong, but he would remain as a dull and boring killer.

I don't think it would solve his actual problem, to be honest.

I never said she is invincible. I said it's unrealistic to expect the average solo survivor to be able to counter her. You are a veteran player yourself and, If I had to guess, some of the other survivors in your match probably were too. Solo survivors struggle to crouch over hag traps, and a single drone has a much bigger area than that. She can make entire rooms and portions of a map hard to traverse just by placing a drone and gainst a lot of time and/or damage by doing that, AND she gets a haste as a bonus that the person in a chase with her can't really predict. One thing are veteran survivors dealing with a killer, the other is to think that same thing won't be problematic for the majority of the community. SM is, and it shows. She has a higher kill rate than FIRST REWORK SADAKO, the one that could condemn people by teleporting randomly around the map.

And here is another match, from earlier today:

    image.png

All Solo as far as I am aware. I know I was.

Yes, I have been playing DBD since 2018, but that doesn't make me a master of the game. I make mistakes, sometimes my strategies fail. But as you can see, there were escapes on both trials I shared here.

Maybe the results will be different next time I see Skull Merchant, but I don't think we can dismiss it every time as me and other survivors just happening to have been playing DBD for a while. I think it shows Solo Queue can escape against Skull Merchant, as long as people do not give up.

For some players, SM might not be fun to go against, and that I can understand. But ever since her rework she no longer causes an actual problem for the game, as her original version did. It is no different than Legion.

    @JeanGreyarea said:

She’s beatable. But it’s like a slow dreary. She’s so boring to face and it doesn’t help that skill merchant players play like as*holes most of the time. Last game I got a camping basement skull merchant on dead dawg. She’s miserable to face

In my opinion, there are worse killers in the game to go against. I don't mind this iteration of Skull Merchant that much.

  • Now tell me, realistically speaking, how can we expect for the average dbd survivor to counter all of that, specially the solo survivors?

By not giving up, even if someone else does:

    image.png

Skull Merchant isn't invincible in Solo Queue, far from it. As long as the whole team doesn't give up, there is a chance.

The problem is that many players give up as soon as they see her, like this Meg did, and they don't even try. That is the only reason why her kill rates are high.

  • If supernatural powers are allowed, then Freddy beats almost everyone.

  • Nah, I doubt that will happen. DS isn't really strong after this buff, especially if they don't adjust the new animation and the possibility of dribbling (yes, it is back).

Trying to use it as a "weapon" against the killer will just get the survivor killed.

  • My main is Freddy and I play him almost all the time. The only other killer that I also really enjoy playing is Knight, though I don't play him nearly as much as I play Freddy.

Freddy has been my favorite killer ever since I first started playing DBD, all the way back in 2018. Nothing will ever change that.

I feel the whole point of prestige is that there is no reward for it, hence the prestige.

Yeah, it was always meant as an extra step you could take to show dedication towards a particular character. Nowadays prestige is forced, but going all the way to 100 is something you choose to do.

  • I like Freddy's P3. It is the only cosmetic I'll ever need.

  • I'm fine with no P100 rewards, to be honest. It isn't really needed.

  • Freddy, of course. Seeing him is always good, no matter if I am playing as him or against him.

  • No giant deadzones, better loops that can be mindgamed instead of unsafe pallets that have to be dropped and none of those terrible new tiles.

  • @radiantHero23 said:

But then all maps would have to be very similar. Indoor maps are generally more favorable for stealth killers. Therefore these killers will bring these offerings, giving them a huge and unfair advantage.

Some survivor might want to use lithe and balanced landing more effective. Therefore they will send themselves to a map with a lot of windows or drops, giving them an unfair advantage as well.

It's the thing that you can prepare for what you get, that makes it unfair for the other side. At least that's how I see it.

It doesn't have to be perfect, it can be a full reversion to that patch (I forgot the number) and it would work.

Maps were not too similar back then, but their layouts were better than the ones we have today.

    @ad19970 said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697969#Comment_3697969

I mean, in my opinion BHVR has been doing a good job at making maps more balanced and fair so far. There are not as many outliers anymore if you ask me. The worst are probably Springwood maps for killer and Rancid Arbattoir for survivor.

I disagree. I think the layouts from back then are far better than the ones we have today.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

No thanks. Survivors don’t need anything basekit that informs them about what perks the killer may have. They should use their brains and try and deduce what perks their opponent is running just like Killers need to do with Survivors.

    I agree completely.

  • Not sure if those are the changes I would suggest, but I agree Wesker needs a nerf. For a killer with hyper mobility, his kit has way too much.

  • I believe map offerings should stay, but the maps themselves need better balanced.

For instance, quite some time ago there was a patch that attempted to fix the maps without making them overpowered for either side. If we still had those layouts in the game, map offerings would not be a problem.

  • @KazRen said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697788#Comment_3697788

I disagree. The loops and size are still really strong for survivors, the main building is the same size and contains essentially the same pallets and window no matter the iteration, and the fences and walls are still long. I don't think any of the badhams are ok.

And I don't think any of these things are problematic with Badham's original layout. Definitely better than Gideon's Pallet Town or Coldwind's endless deadzones.

Oh wow I see. How interesting. Wait, so why the need for 5 of them instead of just 1 with random layouts like eyrie?

    Good question, my friend.

  • The same way we did before Ultimate Weapon was a thing.

  • @HerInfernalMajesty said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697788#Comment_3697788

Okay so there’s what, 4-5 of them? What are the differences? I thought map tiles were random anyways.

There are 5 Badham Preschool maps, but that wasn't always the case.

Before that horrible patch 3.1.0, there was just a single Badham Preschool map in the game. That original layout, the way Badham is meant to be, still exists in the form of Badham 1. The other four have completely different layouts, not just the tiles it spawns.

Badham 4 is a bit smaller than the original layout, while Badham 5 is larger. 2 and 3 have the same size, but the houses and tiles change positions.

In my opinion, the original layout of Badham 1 is the only one that should stay. Everything else is just another mistake from that horrible patch.

  • Badham Preschool 1 is okay, as that map still has the original layout.

But the others are pretty terrible, yeah.

Thanks. I'll give this another shot tomorrow. Maybe I'll have better luck then.

I played a few matches Huntress because against her Shift + W doesn't work very well and it's refreshing. Also, for some obscure reason I can suddenly hit hatchets on survivors that do not stand still. This is a big deal for me because usually I couldn't hit a wall from 6 metres away. 😂

When we get old Freddy back, you'll be the first I come to for advise.

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697693#Comment_3697693

I don't use it a lot (and when I do, then only on Freddy, Wraith and Doctor) so take this with a grain of salt. But from what I've seen in normal games it's not much worse than before the nerf. Mostly they will either heal right after an unhook when Sloppy is still active or they'll stay injured just as before. The good thing is that Wraith and Doctor are killers you don't really want to stay injured against because both of them can get quick hits with a little bit of luck. So staying injured to get more value out of Reslience is pretty risky against them.

For Freddy… Well, it's Freddy. He's not the powerhouse he used to be and it's not really hard to stay awake so you'll know exactly when he's coming. So for the most part, you won't catch a lot of people off guard with him (at least without any additional perks for it), which means Resilience will work pretty well. Especially since he will also have to play pure M1 killer as long as you can stay awake, which makes the faster vaults really hurt.

When we get old Freddy back, you'll be the first I come to for advise.

I'll be happy to help, my friend :)

  • Done, though I definitely agree with @AbsolutGrndZer0 and @TatsuiChiyo here.

  • @Xernoton said:

    https://forums.bhvr.com/dead-by-daylight/discussion/comment/3697584#Comment_3697584

Thank you, friend. I picked Freddy because I wanted to keep my M1 killer gameplay sharp and I only needed an excuse to play him again (I love his animations) but sadly I can't really practice M1 killer gameplay, if I can't even catch up to the survivors.

I'll try the Paintbrush, Corrupt Intervention, Brutal Strength, Sloppy and Plaything for a few games. Maybe it helps. Or I'll switch one of them for STBFL.

    Update:

Game 1: FTP + Buckle Up x 1, Background Player x 3. It did not work out. All 4 were deliberately going down under pallets just so they could be saved by a team mate with Background Player. I tried to slug them all before hooking but well… It's Freddy.

Game 2: SB x 3, Lithe x 1, WoO x 3. I think they might have been solo. The game sent me to Gas Heaven. Again. I got 7 hooks by the time the game was over. So it worked pretty well. Sadly the Shift + W only stopped twice when I got survivors to run into snares with the brown blindness addon.

Seems like you had some difficult trials, my friend.

Unfortunately, this is the current reality with Freddy. I'd love to have some special trick to share, but I don't have much to offer. Unless I talked about Old Freddy, that is.

Perhaps you can add a map offering on top of everything you're already using. It is risky, but it might help.

  • Honestly, I disagree.

Blight is already an extremely powerful killer who definitely doesn't need an unintended exploit to perform well. It is a good thing they are removing this "tech".

  • This is something I'll always support.

We really need those perks back.

  • Well, I'll try to ignore this thing happening above to give ya a good answer, my friend.

Unfortunately, there is no ancient knowledge to help with Freddy, not this time. This isn't a scenario like the one seen with Old Freddy, where he was incorrectly regarded as the weakest killer in the game because many players just didn't realize his potential. This time, Freddy has very little going for him.

As @ArkInk said, Red Paint Brush will help ya with your first chase, because he will be harder to detect at the beginning of the match and your power will be available as soon as the first chase starts. Brutal Strength can help you deal with pallets and Corrupt Intervention can buy you time, but overall there isn't much that can be done.

Seeing the rework that The Twins are getting, I’m rather apprehensive with what they might do to poor Freddy.

I really hope they do him justice and bring back the elements from his old kit that made him unique and keeping some of the new(teleports), but I feel like he needs a WOW! factor to make him radiate his true magnificence. Knowing BHVR, they’ll need more time.

Also, I want him to have a full re-release chapter with a new Survivor and more cosmetics, Preferably released during October since that’s the spooky month.

I agree, my dear. The Twins' rework was a massive step in the wrong direction and it raises concerns about future killer changes.

Still, I am hopeful we will get some news, at the very least. It has been almost 5 years without my favorite killer, and I really hope that changes soon.

  • @Huge_Bush said:

    1. Power Rangers Chapter- Tommy and Kimberly as Survivors, Rita as killer with Lord Zed as a Legendary Cosmetic. Their Mori is making themselves grow and smooshing the survivor.
    2. Bush Cosmetic for Claudette
    3. Claudette’s blending powers get unsealed and she becomes master of stealth once more and strikes terror into the hearts of all Killers and Survivors alike.
    4. Lobby Removal. The cons outweigh the pros. Just load up the match the moment 4 survivors are grouped.
    5. Frog Onesie cosmetic for Claudette.
    6. Myers model update with a better mask, shirtless cosmetic, “Drape Ghost with Glasses” cosmetic from the original film and improved add-ons. Delete Tombstone and allow Myers to killer survivors on death hook, not before. Slightly buff Scratched Mirrors movement speed.
    7. Overhaul to cosmetics. More cosmetic slots, no more linked sets, more customization.
    8. Trapper buffs. Faster movement speed for 10 seconds after setting a trap when not in chase. Updated character model that represents how he looks in hooked on you. More muscles please, many more muscles.
    9. Can’t think of anything else at the moment.

No Freddy dework on your list, dearest friend?

  • I think SM Myers was better to go against when the game had a proper horror atmosphere, but he is still a fun killer to go against.

Always good to have some jumpscares in DBD.

wouldn’t it be better they just combined all of his abilities? So teleport, dream pallets, snares and putting survivors to sleep

In my honest opinion as a long time Freddy main, no.

I don't think his current power is worth salvaging, except for the teleport. But other than that, I really really want my favorite killer back.

  • @Xernoton said:

Freddy needs a rework. Desperately. Ever since his initial rework the devs failed to hit the sweet spot between broken and weak when it comes to Freddy.

He went from a killer many considered weak to a killer that was considered to rival Nurse in strength and now he has fallen pretty low. He is unimaginative, uninspired, weak, feels like a watered down version of other killers and is the one killer that is punished for hooking and killing survivors. Sure, devs, I'll just start killing survivors without hooking them. All at the same time. The problem is, nobody will like to play against a hardcore slugging killer.

He only has a chase power when survivors are asleep, which is not exactly hard to avoid. And even then, his snares aren't great. They're Clown's purple bottles in worse with less versatility since he can't throw them over a large range. Clown even has the yellow bottles on top of that. Freddy's teleport has a huge cooldown and it only gets worse as the game progresses. He starts the game with no power and he ends it with almost no power. That's 1 good thing about the Adrenaline nerf though. At least Freddy will no longer be countered by it.

I play him somewhat regularly because I've come to love his animations but my lord, you feel the lack of power.

@GeneralV probably has some more insight on this topic.

I am hoping for some news after the anniversary event, because he has been in need of a "dework" since 2019.

Post-rework Freddy was powerful, but already boring and unimaginative. Now he is both weak AND boring. As much as I love the character, I don't think I would main him if I hadn't started playing DBD before his rework.

Other than the teleport, I don't think his current power is worth salvaging. I am hoping for a change like Hillbilly's and Sadako's.

I love that you're in every Freddy thread lmao.

I would give Freddy something similar to Tombstone Piece or Condemned, and incorporate it into his moveset. It would make him genuinely threatening and be true to his source material. His lack of personality will always keep him from feeling like Freddy though.

When I play against Freddy I feel like I'm playing against a killer with no power. Constantly staying awake is annoying, and when you're asleep he isn't that much more of a threat. So I just stay asleep. I would trade more time awake, for Freddy being more threatening when you're asleep. So it's less annoying to keep waking up and Freddy is more dangerous if you ignore his side objective.

I love that you're in every Freddy thread lmao.

I have to, my friend! He is the very reason why I joined the Forums in the first place :)

As @Snowbawlzzz said, the idea is to undo his horrible rework from 2019.

Bring his old power back with QoL adjustments. As it was done with Hillbilly and Sadako.

I agree old Freddy needs to come back! I dont even care if he is weak or not I just like fun powers lol

Love to see it, my dear friend! We will get our killer back!

  • He did, in a way.

Freddy's perks revolve around the end game because he used to have a lot of potential at the end game. Remember, the most prominent way to wake up against Old Freddy was using skill checks, but at the end game there was no way to force a skill check without being injured (as sabotage did not count).

Then you would have 5 stacks of Fire Up, 6 of Remember Me and Blood Warden on stand-by.

If he gets his dework, and I sincerely hope he does, then he will have some synergy with the end game again.

  • There isn't much to add here that hasn't already been said, but it is good to reiterate that removing the hallucinations is a must against him.

against the popular opinion of this forum, I truly don’t believe you need to rely on gen regress perks / tunneling to win the vast majority of your games. Focus on improving your macro gameplay. Situational awareness, knowing where survivors are likely to push gens, where they’re likely to hide, heal, take chase, knowing when to drop chase, etc.

If you truly want to improve, don’t rely on crutches to do so, lose games and learn from them, learn how to better control the flow of the game.

    Well said, friend.

  • I see him fairly often.

I do agree that the whole devotion, rank, mmr is a complete mess. It’s extremely confusing for a new player. Rank and even devotion for that matter currently serve no real purpose other than to confuse people. It’s convoluted and just extra bloat.

I think mmr is bad for the game and I think the grading system and rank for matchmaking was the best system we had. The devotion system took into account much more of what went into the match than just kill or survive.

Mmr only works when a game is generally pretty balanced at the higher end. That is not dbd, at all. It’s balanced as a party game for casuals. Dbd doesn’t know what it wants to be and it’s trying to be both. Either you keep mmr and balance around the higher end or we keep balancing casually and then mmr needs to be removed. People only want to play good vs good when the game is balanced for good vs good. Poor matchmaking is necessary in a game that isn’t balanced for the high end because it helps cover up the problems. This is similar to why we can’t see mmr or swf in the post game lobby right now, it’s only purpose in being hidden is to hide the problems so we can’t point it out.

Remove mmr and match based on rank again in my opinion. That was the best system.

And they seriously need to stop hiding everything from the player base. Hiding mmr/rank and swf is very frustrating. People like to be able to see their rank/mmr as it gives them goals to work towards and makes them play the game more.

I think the best we ever had was the Ranking System with the actual rank reset, before patch 3.4.0

It wasn't perfect, but it was definitely better than everything MMR has to offer.

  • Yeah, I would instantly leave that lobby. No point in playing with bots.
