Remove her stand still mindgame and she is already significantly weaker.
Most Spirit players don't really need it, to be honest. At least in my experience.

With the exception of a certain Deathslinger tunneling everyone, my games have been going fine recently.

I propose a different rework. Just revert his power back to its original version, but keep Dream Projection. That's it.

I don't. I just Prestige right away.

Yeah, I hope we'll be able to see him again someday. I know he was weak but there were many things about him I loved that other killers didn't have.
Same. One of the best things about him is how unique he was, when compared to the rest of the roaster.

Completely wrong. Most of us Freddy mains used to main Old Freddy. And if there is one thing we are not, is spoiled.
There is a reason why we want our old killer back, who was weaker (but much more fun) than the current version. And even those who never played him before would definitely like to give it a try.

All he really needed was his nerf reverted with a few changes. He would have been fun, plus no one had anything against him :/
Indeed. That is what me, @QwQw, and many others are saying and I am glad to see that people agree. All the devs need to do is bring his old power back with some QoL changes. That's it. You now have a balanced and fun killer.
And it was quite the opposite. In my experience, most people were actually glad to face a Freddy because they thought it was a free escape. And I always did my best to prove them wrong.

I really hope there won’t be breakable walls on any of the Coldwind maps. Man I hate breakable walls so much.
Same. Breakable Walls are probably the worst mechanic in the game. They add nothing, they make you waste time and they bring the old infinites back (looking at you, Groaning Storehouse)

Jesus Christ, why didn't the devs just revert this nerf? Instead they gave Freddy an entire rework, when all they needed to do was go back and edit some of these numbers.
We will never know, my friend. Unfortunately, we will never know.

Hell if he was still around, I'd wonder how strong he'd be if the devs were to revert that first nerf.
Honestly I think he'd actually be pretty good. If you ran M&A on him, you'd only have an eight meter terror radius. People think Deathslinger with M&A is scary, imagine a killer who has an even smaller terror radius than that, AND can see if you're outside of it.
Not to mention, survivors no longer waking up when you heal them from the dying state would make Freddy one mean ass slugger.
Current Freddy would probably be stronger than him, but I doubt he would be a low tier killer. Especially with a 8 metres Terror Radius. Such sweet aura reading!
And he was a mean slugger. That is actually one of the main reasons for the nerf: the chapter released was eventually followed by a free weekend, so new and inexperienced players were getting slugged by Freddy all the time. Imagine the negative reviews...

Oh, almost forgot...
Here is a bear ;)

I actually agree. I know I called the remake #########, but I didn't outright despise it like many others did. I just wish the producers did some things differently.
- Make Freddy actually innocent. The movie kind of sets this up as a "What If?" but then completely goes back on it and makes Freddy evil. Honestly I think it would have been a cool plot twist if Freddy actually was innocent, and was wrongly accused.
- Kill off Nancy and make Quentin the main character. Quentin was actually one of my favorite parts of the film, because he helped breath some life into it. Similar to point number 1, I think it would have made an interesting plot twist if Freddy actually succeeded in killing Nancy off half way through the movie, and it was left up to Quentin to fight Freddy.
- For gods sake, get rid of the awful CGI. Amazing practical effects have always been a staple of A Nightmare On Elm Street, and seeing the movie have a ######### ton of crappy looking blood and other effects like the classic shot of Freddy pressing his face through Nancy's wall really breaks the immersion.
Obviously a lot of this goes against the og film, but honestly imo that's would have made it enjoyable. I hate remakes of classic movies because they always feel like crappier versions of the originals. That's part of the reason why I like the Friday The 13th remake because it completely changed Jason from being a slow lumbering guy in a mask, to a fast agile hunter. There are still a lot of other things wrong with the movie, but at least it tried (And Succeeded In My Opinion) in adding it's own twist to Jason. I really wish they would have done that with Freddy too.
Back to dbd, I also wasn't around for Freddy's release, so I don't know what the actual nerf was, but I'm pretty sure it was just basic number tweaks to parts of his power.
And honestly, I just don't think reworks will work in dbd. Regardless of how many people say _____ killer sucks, there are always going to be people who enjoy playing them, and will be mad that their mains power is getting completely scrapped. And in case of Freddy, the rework backfired insanely hard and he became one of the most hated killers in the game, as well as pissing of the Old Freddy mains. I really just wish they would have just given him some small buffs and QoL changes instead of flying off the handle and erasing his power entirely.
As for the movie, I agree with everything you've said, especially with number 1. Making him an innocent man would be such a good twist for the story, and it would give him a very powerful desire for revenge, which could be explored in many different ways. And I was pissed that they removed his daughter from the story. I just really like Katherine Krueger.
Back to DBD, take a look at his first nerf:
And I agree, all he needed were a few buffs and QoL changes, not a full rework. Maybe one day we will have the opportunity to play as Old Freddy again. That is what I truly want.

How bad was old Torment Creek? Not sure I was around when it was a thing.
The following comment is from a very old thread here, but it explains the problem:
"I had a game where the last survivor left just ran in a circle around this. Since they were just out of sight bloodlust didn't kick in. It's pretty much an infinite. Even with bloodlust there's very little most killers can do.
What terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible, terrible map design.
Oh wait, bring bamboozle right? yeah I didn't know I'd get a 2016 map with a horrific design flaw in it.
How do you even begin to justify something like this? it shouldn't be in the game. The coldwind maps are so out of date it just drags the game down."
He was talking about that window in the main building, as it used to be one of those windows which the killer had to vault. Take a look:
It is a very old screenshot, but it is the best I could find:
See what the problem is? And it took them a very long time to remove it (Patch 3.7.0 if I am not mistaken)

Me too! It is my favourite Coldwind map!
Well, that doesn't mean I don't have some bad memories with its old infinite, but still... It is a very good map.

Sac wards are more of a meme offering. One time I played in a swf with two others and one said they are burning a Midwich offering. I said "do it I dare you" and burnt the sac ward. Hate Midwich so much.
Now that is the way it is done! I once managed to use it to prevent a Heart Locket from sending me to Coldwind Farm. I admit I felt like a mindgame master, outplaying survivors before the trial :)

I would probably do it like this: first, re-enable every single which has been retired, from Splinters to Common and Uncommon Map offerings and then allow everyone to exchange offerings back into bloodpoints.

It's truly a shame what happened to Freddy.
Firstly they couldn't even get the good Freddy. No, instead we got shafted with ######### 2010 remake Freddy that almost no one liked.
Then he got an unnecessary nerf a week after he came out.
Then he became a laughing stock amongst the community as the worst killer in the game for years.
Then when he finally got buffed, people bitched and moaned that he was op and brainless, and Freddy quickly became hated by the community.
And lastly here we are now. The devs squandered their chance to make Freddy a fun interactive killer for both sides, and instead went with the lazy option of just giving him a quick nerf and calling it a day. And they couldn't even give us an option to play the older version of him.
Like goddamn, Kruger just can't catch a break.
It truly is.
First of all, I actually enjoyed the Remake. The only things that I didn't like were: the fact that they changed his crimes and removed his daughter from the story.
The unnecessary nerf after a week was before time, as I only entered the Fog a year later. And I enjoyed playing as Old Freddy until his rework, which I was never supportive of. All I wanted were a few buffs an QoL adjustments.
And now his new power, which is not nearly as fun as his old one, is getting nerfed. It is not easy to be a Freddy main.
-
It might not be the best time to go for Freddy, but if you want a build suggestion I would recommend: Pop / BBQ / Corrupt Intervention and STBFL.

I didn't had the pleasure to play him before the rework.
I like the pill bottle approach better. Mind games and messing with survivors heads its more fun and more inline with the movies. As a survivor in the dreamwork not seeying freddy picking up a survivor of the floor was a really, really, really nice touch.
And i agree, these recent changes won't make him more fun to play with or against.
I feel sorry for you, my friend, judging by your playstyle you would have loved Old Freddy. He wasn't the strongest among killers, but he was extremely fun to play as!
I would do anything to play him again, and I was actually expecting this to be the previously announced change. And what did I get? An unnecessary and weird nerf. It feels bad.
-
@HellDescent said:
They wanna bring him in line with the rest of the roster. So basically they want all killers to be closer to trickster, got it.
Decreased snares from 10 to 5. Pretty much It's worse than clowns bottles now, since they have absolutely no effect on you when you're awake. Simply waking up against him makes Freddy a basic m1 b!tch.
But wait! Here's the big one boys. The one we've been waiting for. Are you ready?? His DREAM PALLETS have been reduced to 7!!! Finally. That $h!t was way too op. He can no longer cover an entire tile of The Game map with fake pallets.
Congratulations, you have successfully reduced killer variety in red ranks. Keep up the good work.
Edit: P.S. Can we have the old Freddy back now?
"Can we have the old Freddy back now?"

Hmm... no one suicided on hook? You sure? Are we playing the same game? lol
Hook suicides happen even when i wasn't using ropes. People just refused to play against him, period. But in other hand i had people suicide to the clown before the buffs... good luck trying to understand this community.
And yes, the addons were useful against sweaty 4 premade survivors in high ranks. Now he's going to be more fun to play against because those snares were only useful at cutting down loops.
I played him when i was tired of being tea bagged by survivors, as well as for fun with pill bottles. People will buy the dlc because he's that famous. I did it, that's what got me into this game in the first place. Not even knowing how strong or weak he was. Lets not forget that this is a party game and not something to take serious tournament wise, as hard as people try to push it. Like using my TRUE 7.1 headsets on spirit takes more skill... lol...
We are, but probably not in the same servers. There is that.
Yes, his slowdown add-ons are strong and they were useful, but nothing capable of justifying a nerf.
And I don't doubt people are still going to buy the DLC, I just think that most changes were unnecessary, and that includes his first rework.
-
Not enough to make him a low tier killer, but yes, they are impactful

The question was rhetorical, it wasn't meant to you personally. Sorry if you thought so, but it was meant to the average Freddy everyone here dislikes.
The alarm clock tweaks might be pointless to you, but pretty good for others. I'm one of them. Personally until now i never bothered to wake up with them, I'd much rather find a team mate, who usually is doing gens. Much closer and less time consuming for the same reward. Now actually going for the clock might encourage different playstyles, also aggressive ones such as tanking hits.
And you're misunderstanding me: I never said they're strong, i said they're boring and tedious. I play this game for fun on both roles, not to fall asleep. And honestly, i literally feel like falling asleep in real life when playing against a Freddy with slowdown addons (which usually imply also slowdown perks). And i doubt you've never seen anyone hook suicide just cause you're a Freddy, because there's plenty of people who do it, me included if i see stuff that will just make the game a yawn fest.
Possibly after the changes, the throne for being the most boring killer in the game will go to stacked slowdowns legion. Literally an M1 game, just like 4ever Freddy
No worries, mate :)
As for the alarm clocks, I don't think you will ever use the 30 seconds "protection".
His slowdown add-ons were literally a blessing for me, both as survivor and killer. But then again, I absolutely despise fast-paced trials, so I like anything that makes the game slower.
And hook suicides... well, It has happened, but it is extremely rare. Most people only suicide against me when they mess up, regardless of which killer I am playing.
P.S Most boring killer in my opinion is Ghostface. But this might be a discussion for another thread.
-
If you wish to know the opinion of a long time Freddy main:
-Reduced movement speed while placing snares is a good change. It actually brings him somewhat closer to killers such as Trapper and Hag.
-Reduced the maximum number of pallets and snares is a weird change, to be honest. I can see it working for Snares, since it prevents you from literally spamming them during a chase (something that you should never do). But pallets are not that strong, and they do not give you any advantages until the very last second when a survivor drops it. Reducing the number of pallets is overkill.
-Alarm clocks tweaks are pointless, in my opinion. I mean, you don't have time to actually protect them, and it is very possible that you will take longer than 30 seconds to find a survivor that just woke up.
-Add-on changes are extremely bad. Black Box is now a joke, and why on Earth, or Entity's realm, would you use an add-on that makes actions louder? If you want to counter Iron Will, there is Stridor and a generator being repaired is a loud action by itself.
-No option to play as Old Freddy = sadness

I mean, they fixed him in the same sense that killer mains say that windows being blocked by the entity was a survivor fix. Either both are fixes, or both are nerfs. Cant have your biased ass put in double standards in the game.
"fixing genspeeds" would mean nerfing genspeeds.
There is a difference. If you fix something, that "something" was broken to begin with. Take Freddy and old Prayer Beads for example:
-Prayer beads used to be broken. It got changed. This is a "fix"
-Freddy is not broken. He is going to get some changes. This is a "nerf"

The slowdown while casting snares will hurt the "hurr sure spam snares" freddy at most. Are you one of those? If that's so, you deserve the nerf.
Going on the opposite side of the map to wake up was useless most of the times, and a huge time waster that didn't make up for the effort at all, at least now survivors will actually be motivated on doing so for the 30 seconds buff (instead of waking up by clapping hands or by failing skillchecks which was much more convenient)
Slowdown addons needed to be removed. They only made games tedious, boring and honestly i much rathered kill myself on hook as soon as I saw the chains and rope rather than keep playing that game. MAYBE after the nerfs I, and many other players, will stop doing so vs freddy.
"Are you one of those?"
No, I am not. I've always said that spamming your Snares is a terrible idea. You can check my comment history, if you want to.
Alarm clocks tweaks are pointless, in my opinion. I mean, you don't have time to actually protect them, and it is very possible that you will take longer than 30 seconds to find a survivor that just woke up.

If you want to counter Iron Will, there is Stridor and a generator being repaired is a loud action by itself. Besides, Swing Chains and Jump Rope were not that strong. Definitely not strong enough to prevent all 5 gens from being repaired.
And I don't know what you mean about hook suicides. No one does that when I am playing Freddy, or against him.

Freddy is just very easy to pick up and win with, because his kit gives him a lot of things for free and doesn't ask too much in terms of skill expression.
It's why Freddy tends to be very high in pick and kill rate even though he's not the strongest killer in the game.
His action speed addons were gutted once and honestly it's probably for the better if they got removed and replaced with someone else that wouldn't need to have weak numbers to be balanced. We'll have to see if the replacements are worthwhile.
"We'll have to see if the replacements are worthwhile."

Technically, yes. A well placed Snare is deadly and can guarantee a hit, or make the survivor leave the loop. But the nerfs will hurt, I can tell you that.
