Ok so usually this depends on where the survivor is and if they're injured. I don't go on long chases with Trickster because it's not beneficial for me, even as a ranged killer. I don't do very many long range knife throws either, because they can just strafe away from them. The same goes for survivors who hug obstacles. That should be an easy M1 if they're not using pallets. Basically you have to judge when it's best to throw knives, when to M1, and when to drop a chase
The issue with dropping chase is that Trickster is an awful Killer when it comes to that. Atleast with Legion you can force them to mend and quickly find other survivors, but as Trickster you have no map mobility and no information gathering ability with no natural slowdown either. This means that abandoning a chase with Trickster is going to waste a ton of his time and unless you can make that up by quickly downing the next survivor you find, you'll have lost so much time you won't be able to come back easily from it.

I don't think Trickster is a bad killer at all... I think there are more people who don't play Trickster because they assume he is bad. He's also a fairly difficult killer to learn, much less even consider mastering. He falls in line with other killers like Pinhead, Demogorgon, Ghostface, Pyramid, and Clown - killers that should know their powers enough to take full advantage of them.
I see Demo players who don't use their portals at all. Ghostface players stealthing out in the open. Pyramid players second guessing themselves and losing a chase. Pinhead players usingtheir chains near pallets. Clown players throwing bottles before a pallet is even dropped.
There's no question, with such varying skill levels in the game, that some people just will not understand how to play Trickster. That transfers to every player in the game. And with such a huge stigma surrounding Trickster, even fewer people are playing him... the less people play him the less people will learn how to play him.
I kinda wish there were more Trickster enthusiasts because I think he's really fun to play. Ghostface too.
Except for the fact that I've been playing him since his PTB days, I'm not some new comer towards him. The only thing he has going for him is the fact that's he's a pub stomper and he's one of the best campers in the game. In high MMR survivors will round corners and put objects between you and them forcing you to hold W for a decent amount of time, then when you finally catch up to them, assuming they didn't go to a really strong loop against him, then you can finally start to go through their health state. Then after that whole chase is over, you will have at best used around 18 knives and at worst 30, either way you'll have to reload. He has a massive time efficency issue that isn't helped by anything other than his ability to camp.
-
@OldHunterLight said:
Or what if you need to practice him more instead of just hoping to him to get a buff? In fact I personally believe trickster is not as weak as you make him out to be, trickster main here and I can easily say that he is really oppressive add bamboozle and shack is nothing but a joke vs him.
Practice aiming and you will see, I'm not saying that he is stronger than huntress per say but he is indeed at least high b or low a
Yeah except I've been playing him for so long that now I'm stuck at high MMR. Trickster is nothing but a pub stomper or an old Bubba because in high MMR survivors know his main weakness which is rounding corners in loops. It makes so so that almost every chase your in will last for long amounts of time, and including the fact that now you have to reload constantly with his 44 knives makes it extremely difficult to win. The only times I've ever won in high MMR with Trickster was when the survivors messed up really badly. The only time you'll ever win in high MMR with Trickster is if the survivors are somehow bad, they mess up, or you get lucky with RNG and get a map that doesn't invalidate his entire power.

@Chilli_man2400 said:
The problem is like legion you can’t buff him without breaking him. Tricksters case is not as bad his buffs are easy but he’s ironically tricky to change
Yeah, that's the issue with him. His power is so awfully designed that he will either be overpowered or underpowered, no inbetween.
-
He is objectively better than an M1 Killer, what are you going on about? I've played him since release and if you know how to play him he's easily an A tier Killer. His whip leaves little room for counterplay other than holding W and his zombies can help him with map pressure if they don't get stuck on things.
-
Probably Michael Myers since it was DBD's first license which made the game much, much more popular.
-
If only one survivor could escape, this game would probably die within a week. First of all, if only one survivor is allowed to escape then that means there will no longer be a way to get good stats from weak or strong killers meaning all of the balancings is going to be guesswork. Also playing solo queue would be even more frustrating because this type of gameplay would incentivize people to act as selfish as possible, even more so than what we currently have, making solo queue even more frustrating.
-
I've always played both sides but for around a couple months and counting I haven't been having fun with survivor at all and I've played Killer more. In-between me just not enjoying playing against most of the new killers and old and getting camped, tunneled, and or slugged much more frequently I've played much more Killer than Survivor. Currently right now I hate going up against Nurse, Spirit, Hag, Pyramid Head, Huntress, Freddy, Twins, Deathslinger, Ghostface, Wraith, Nemesis, Legion, Clown, Plague, Pig, Myers, and Trapper. The only Killers that I somewhat enjoy going up against are Hillbilly, Blight, Oni, and Demogorgon and even then it doesn't matter at all if they bring extremely powerful builds and camp/tunnel/slug. I just find Killer to be much more relaxed and fun than Survivor and even though I may get the rare stressful match it doesn't mean anything since I always end up winning those matches.

It's not a troll. Devs don't address gen speed, introduce boon totems which kills hexes entirely, nerf Deathslinger because he was apparently OP, Spirit gutted and not gonna see play anymore, new joke add-on for Plague, Trapper's add-on doesn't let him pick up traps, Pig's base dash untouched, Legion untouched, hatch and key is still a thing, and Pop is still at 45 seconds whilst DS is at 60 and doesn't deactivate when the killer hooks someone else. I could do on, so don't even think about calling a killer player a troll again, unless you're ready for a list of all the ways killer is the underdog.
Boon totems aren't going to negate hexes at all. Some of them are very powerful but guess what? This is a PTB meaning that there's the chance for improvements to be made when it actually comes out.
Addressing gen speed is not as easy as you think it is, every singe Killer has a different power meaning that a change that affects all of them is going to affect them very differently. Changing gen speed would be a massive undertaking that would require months of balancing and fine tuning just to make it so Killers like Nurse won't be completely overpowered yet Killers like Trickster would still be affected by it in a good way.
Deathslinger got nerfed because he could repeatedly spam his M2 without any consequences. It was deserved, however I still believe that he needs a big buff to his 1v4 if they're gonna nerf his 1v1 as that's all he has going for him. Spirit isn't gutted at all, just because survivors know where you are doesn't mean they're just magically not going to get hit, she's just not straight up unfair now. You can still use your phase around loops to hit survivors, despite them hearing you.
Plagues new brown addon isn't even that awful, it just heavily changes the way she plays. Are you going to just ignore her other good addon changes like the 10% vomit velocity addon? Trappers bag addon let's him start the match with 8 traps which is huge for him because that means he doesn't need to waste time going around the map picking up traps, so it only makes sense for it to have a big downside. Maybe it's too much but this is a PTB so it may get changed, and even if it doesn't get changed so what? He got a lot of other really good addon changes that really help him.
Pig's basekit wasn't touched but her addons got buffed really nicely, some of which make her dash much more viable. Just because Legion wasn't touched in this update doesn't mean he won't be changed down the line.
Hatch and key are still a thing but they've been heavily toned down to the point where they aren't a problem anymore. They only work if one person is in the trial meaning that at that point you've either already won or lost badly.
Pop being 45 seconds really doesn't affect it at all, I still use it on many of my Killers like Nemesis and Pinhead and I always have time for a pop. DS being 60 seconds really isnt that bad, and yeah sure it doesn't go away after you hook someone but that doesn't matter because it goes away as soon as you do anything productive meaning if you get DS'd after you hook someone that means they weren't doing anything good for a long time.
Your cherrypicking extremely hard dude. Atleast acknowledge all the other changes instead of only mentioning the ones that help your narrative.
-
Due to the many, many Killers in DBD ignore most looping skills (Nurse, Spirit, Blight, Freddy, Twins, Doctor, Deathslinger, etc.) it's just a much better idea to force them to hold W then to try and loop them because you'll probably go down quickly due to how much anti loop some of these Killers have. Killer's like Deathslinger and Nemesis are extremely powerful in the chase but have no way to catch up to survivors quickly meaning that wasting as much of their time by just holding down a single button is more effective than trying to loop them. It's not fun for either side but it's a necessity so long as Killers like them keep getting created.

I'd recommend just playing perkless and go for the Power Moves achievement. It's time to break your reliance on perks.
Be free.
I play fine without perks, but the issue is being tunneled out by a Killer or slugged on the ground for minutes leading to the whole teams loss, especially when it's a killer like Nurse. Witnessing a teammate being camped and not being able to do anything bc no borrowed isn't fun for them or me. Having multiple gens popped not because your playing bad but because you have nothing to stop those gens is unfun.
-
@th3 said:
I mean I've been shaking up my builds and still do fine.

And those are the ones you've caught.
Now imagine all the ones that are using cheats sneakily.
Yeah, it seriously sucks. Funnily enough one of the hackers I encountered tried to hide their hacks but it was obvious to me. They increased their speed to around 110% and I knew this because despite the fact I was playing a 115% Killer I could barely catch up to them. Then afterwards they started going all out with their hacks.
-
I'm not entirely sure what a Killer power needs to be in order to satisfy both survivors and killers but from what I've seen the most universally liked Killer is pre-nerf Hillbilly. Even the developers themselves have stated that he has a fair yet strong power where the better player usually comes out on top of the chase.
-
I don't know man, I do really amazing with him every single match I play, even on the maps where you slide off of a lot of things. No offense but it just sounds like a skill problem on your part.
-
Power struggle almost never works but when it does....man, the pure excitement you get is out of this world.
-
On the weaker killers it's annoying but not that bad but even if your not an amazing Nurse, Spirit, or Blight you'll still probably end up winning because of how much those perks synergize with their powers. You might as well just play the game on auto pilot.
-
I think it'd be too strong, especially when combined with perks like fixated or vigil. Maybe if this was applied to no mither or something else than it could be balanced while also making a worthless perk viable.
-
My own personal top five is Nurse, Spirit, Blight, Twins, and Hag
-
I'm not entirely sure what's the best build on him but currently I'm using Ruin, Undying, Noed, and Bamboozle. It's almost necessary to put on extremely meta perks on him because of how awful he his at the 1v1 and 1v4.

Nurse is POTENTIALLY the strongest killer in the game... Based on much time you trained her muscle memory. She is not any easier to learn if one could distinguish whether she is about to blink up/down... You still don’t know EXACTLY she will land upstairs/downstairs. The muscle memory still has to be trained as to exactly where she will appear upstairs/downstairs.
The players that have already pumped that much time into her will kill fast no matter what they add, or remove. So what is the argument against this? 😭
Because it'll make Nurse way more easier and making the hardest yet most powerful Killer in the game easier to play as will result in bad things happening.
-
Two completely different Killers with two completely different playstyles. The strongest Killer in the game does not need an addon to be made base kit.
-
This would actually be a pretty great idea! I think it'd be fair if you got one or maybe two for reaching the end of a tome level.

No, but Survivors cause the Killer to kill as fast as possible.
If I ever let off the gas, Survivors genrush, them twerk out the gates and BM in the endgame chat.
So while the GAME does not tell me to kill ASAP, the current meta has turned into 'which side is faster?'
And you started with 'But the lore says you have to torture, so you're WRONG!'. And then you trying so hard to defend your smart man 'gatcha' moment with 'But the LOOOORRRE!' So yeah; you should have been more specific.
No one is at fault for misunderstanding you trying so hard to just have 'gotten' the campers and tunnelers. That's basically what you tried to do, and now you're backpedaling and blaming everyone who called you out.
Yeah, then the survivors are forcing you to camp and tunnel, not really the game itself, more like the players themselves. Yes, I did bring up lore but that was to address people who say that the game tells them to camp/tunnel. My whole point was and still is, no where in the game does it force you to play a specific way, so don't use false information and say that it does. Not calling anyone out except for the people accusing me of saying that I think camping and tunneling is bad. It's not, it's needed in the current hold W Gen rush Meta.

The job of the killer is to kill, at no point does the game say that tunneling or camping are "bad" ways to do it. This is just a very strange topic as you are too focus on the "the game doesn't explicitly say to camp or tunnel" rather than just accepting that because the killer objective is to kill both camping and tunneling are valid tactics.
Yes, I know the whole point of Killer is to Kill, it's in the name. I've said before it's ok to camp and tunnel, I do it frequently too, but when your in an argument with someone who doesn't like it, don't say that the game forces you, just say you did it of your own accord. No where does the game officially acknowledge camping/tunneling directly so don't hide behind the excuse of "the game forced me."

...I don't think I ever heard anyone, anywhere, say they camp and tunnel because the game literally forces them too.
If they say 'The first gens pop too fast, and I camp/tunnel to ensure a kill to catch up' is different. But I don't think I've ever hard anyone claim the game, literally, makes them camp or tunnel.
So what was the point of your thread again? Because it just looks like ego stroking from here, until the entire forum shut you down.
The whole point of the post was to tell people to stop saying "The game tells me to kill the survivors as fast as possible" Because it doesn't. Just because you haven't seen anyone say it doesn't mean no one has said it. I've seen it said a lot of times and its annoying because no where does it officially state let alone acknowledges camping and tunneling.
But sure, keep misunderstanding it and just say that its "ego stroking." You refuse to admit that you misunderstood it, but sure, I'll admit that I should've been more specific to not get people accusing me of saying camping and tunneling isn't ok. Because that's not what I said.

What false info? The goal of the killer is to kill survivors. The method doesn't matter. And if it must be about torturing survivors to death, I'm sure the survivor being stuck on a hook for 2 minutes is already being tortured.
You are simply trying to justify why you think your own style of play is superior.
What? Where did I say that I'm trying to act superior? Your intentionally taking my words and misunderstanding them. I camp and tunnel to, the difference is that I don't go on the forums and say "The game told me to do it!" I'm doing it on my own accord, no one is forcing me, not the game, not the dev's. Camping and Tunneling is A FAIR STRATEGY, IF ITS HEALTHY OR NOT FOR THE GAME IS A DIFFERENT DISCUSSION WHICH THAT ISN'T THE POINT OF THIS POST.
My whole post is telling people to stop saying that the game is telling you to do it. No where in the game does it say "Camp and Tunnel the Survivors!" It says to just Kill them.

The game's lore does not drive the game mechanics. You're thread is nothing but you trying to say you're smarter than everyone else and go 'But the lore!" when people disagree.
The game, itself, says the Killer's goal is to kill. ######### the lore. The lore means between 'jack' and '#########' and jack left town. No, people are not wrong 'because the lore'. YOU are wrong.
You're trying to judge people, then say 'Oh, but I'm totally not judging. Also; you're wrong.' and 'I don't care how you play, but you're wrong'. You're trying to be the smartest person in the room. That's why you made this thread.
'I don't care if you camp, but you're wrong'. Is what your thread is. It's nothing but an ego wank. But guess what?
The. Lore. Means. Nothing. The GAME states the Killer kills. YOU ARE WRONG. The lore does not make you right. You. Are. WRONG.
I KNOW THE LORE MEANS NOTHING TO THE GAME. I've literally said this before, my whole point of my post which you got confused with isn't to slander camping and tunneling, it's to clarify that the game never says "you need to kill the survivors as fast as possible." No where does it state this, so people should stop saying it. If you want to say "I camp and tunnel survivors because I want to win" That's perfectly acceptable. If you say "I camp and tunnel because x and y" then its ok. Its not ok if you say that you do it because the game says to do it. Your doing it of your own accord, no one else is forcing you to do it except if the Survivors are extremely good at the game. Got it?

So Lore != Gameplay now, but you still want to justify saying that killer's job isn't to kill because of Lore.
At this point it's more that you'll never be satisfy with any answer that isn't agreeing with the opinion you've already set.
Ok, copy and paste the message where I said that it's not the Killers job to kill. It is, but the way to reach it is specified very differently in game. I've said this more times than I can count and at this point I'm not sure if I'm being baited but the the game says you have to play one way, then its ok if you ignore that way, but if later on you say that the game wants you do something else then what is actually being specified, your wrong. Go ahead, camp, tunnel, slug, as long as it's not using 3rd party cheats then its ok, but don't use false info.

I think you're looking too deeply into this, bud.
Besides, if I camp you, and your team blitz's gens and leaves, that survivor I camped lost all hope. Thus, I did my job.
Sure, play however you want, just don't go on the forums and say that the game wants you to win as fast as possible because it doesn't, but just because it doesn't, doesn't mean you can't play however you want. I keep telling people that I'm fine with camping and tunneling, just not the false info.

People have told you; lore does not translate to mechanics. The game's webpage flat out says the Killer KILLS.
You're using lore to justify telling campers they're wrong. But the lore does not drive the mechanics. What happens in the lore means nothing. This is just a flimsy excuse for you to say 'You're wrong', but it's you who are wrong.
Oh my god, have you read the post at all dude? Any of my replies? Wanna know what's in almost every single one of them that you keep ignoring? I DONT CARE ABOUT HOW YOU PLAY. I camp and tunnel to as Killer, but the whole point of the post is that you keep missing is that if your going to tell people in an argument that the objective of the Killer is just and ONLY to kill the survivors as fast as possible, you are wrong. I know lore =/= gameplay stop using false information. Everyone should feel free to play however they want, but not use false information.

If you escape a match, do you feel tortured and think something like ,,NOOOO fkkkk my life is so over nowwww!! i got hooked 2 times i will be depressed forever!!!"
I doubt that.
Killing is torturing. Thats the objective.
Not hooking.
Its no false informations.
The game's lore literally tells you flat-out that the Killers are suppose to kill the survivors slowly as to draw out as much hope from them as possible to feed the entity. Going by the lore, if a Killer were to kill a survivor within 2 minutes of the match every Survivor in that trial would lose hope, which would starve the entity. Because of this Killers torture them slowly. But once again, that is lore and that's much more different then how the game plays out, so because of that I don't care about how you play, you should play however you want, but if your going to say that your objective is to only kill the survivors, going by the games definition your wrong.

The problem with the arguments I've seen some killer mains using on the forums, is that if you use the same logic but "survivor sided" they don't like it.
Some killer mains say they don't owe you a good time, and they're not here to make your game "easy", but then will complain about "genrushing", looping, "pressing w", keys etc.
Double standards and victim complexes.
Honestly some of the arguments both sides bring up are dumb. But the point of my post was to tell people who are going on the forums and whatnot saying "It's the job of the killer to kill the survivors!" is partially wrong. Yes they have to kill the survivors but going by the games lore your suppose to kill them slowly. But whatever, no one's really gonna listen to what the game is gonna tell you to do and that's ok, I just want people to stop misunderstanding what the game tells you.

What? Did you even read my post at all dude? Don't reply if your not going to read it. Your bringing a completely different issue than what i was talking about. I'm saying that you are free to play however you want, just stop misunderstanding what the game tells you.

Cool! Another person that misunderstood the whole point of my post. Not sure if you purposely or accidently didn't read it but I clearly stated that I don't care about how anyone plays, just stop using false information. The game tells you that your objective is to torture survivors slowly but some people ignored this and misconstrued it to "just kill the survivors." It's completely fine that most of the player base doesn't wanna listen to how the game tells you how to specifically play because it isn't fun being gen rushed and being forced to not tunnel/camp but don't go on the forums lying about what the true objective is.
-
@OldHunterLight said:
So camping and tunneling does not torture the survivors? What do you want me to do? Slug their bodies until they bleed out?
And the "my objective to win is to kill the survivors" is not wrong answer, same as holding m1 on a gen, both are true.
The game also very states that survivors should hide when they hear a terror radius.
No, it does torture the survivors but it's not how the game tells you do it, and that's okay, but if your going to go on the forums or anywhere else and state that the objective of the game is just to kill the survivors, your wrong. The game tells you to torture them slowly.

It's not false, though? Their objective is in the name. Killer. Who kills people. How they go about it is up to them. Because they kill people.

Like I said in the post that people obviously misunderstood, I don't care what you or anyone does in this game but stop oversimplifying the objective of the game. Yes, you need to kill the survivors but that's not the only objective.

Yeah, things will for sure take a turn for the better once you use meta perks on Killer. Playing Killer without at least one gen regression perk usually ends up being a very stressful experience.
-
Personally I find it the other way, but I guess it's because I've sunk 2k hours in the game and mastered most of the Killers in the game.
Because of the way the game is built Killer will usually be more stressful than survivor since your going to be active all game whereas for Survivor you have teammates to take the fall for your mistakes.

I meant to say that because he gets destroyed in big loops that just turns his gameplay into a big RNG fest
How is this similar to old legion.
Notice how I said he has *almost* every issue as old Legion? He isn't a carbon copy of old Legion but he used to have the issue of he would down you no matter what you did. That issue is lessened now that the laceration decay starts faster but he's still an extremely unhealthy Killer.

There is nothing even remotely close between Trickster and Legion. I have looped trickster for 5 generators. There is nothing even remotely similar towards their powers. Legion feral frenzy is moves extremely fast, vaults extremely fast and uses M1(an Unavoidable attack) to apply deep wound in which he moon walked to get unavoidable downs. Legion to this day in feral frenzy still has no counter-play for injuries, He just cannot down players which is why he is not complained about.
Trickster never uses m1, moves extremely slow and his method of attacking is using projectile weapon which you can realistically juke/dodge knives. you just suck at looping and the chase. Projectile killers are among the most healthy designs in DBD.
Your own experiences with Trickster mean nothing unless you have proof and even then a single game doesn't represent every single Trickster. My point was that even if Trickster hits you a single time in a loop, eventually he would down you no matter how good you are. Sure, it would take forever but it was unavoidable. I've also looped Tricksters for extremely long times, most survivors have since he's a joke of a Killer but most people eventually go down to him. Obviously with his new "buff" his gameplay and counterplay has changed a bit but for the most part it's still kind of similar.
And that last sentence is extremely biased. You think projectile Killers are healthy designs but that's pretty damn debatable. Trickster sucks for both sides, most people I've seen talk about Deathslinger don't enjoy going up against him, the only healthy projectile Killer is Huntress. Other than latency sometimes giving her truck sized hitboxes she's one of the most fair, strong, and balanced Killer's in the game.

In that case you are very very wrong in your comparison. There's nothing guaranteed about anything Trickster does. Double that since you'll start losing laceration after only avoiding knives for 10s. Meanwhile if he catches you out, downing with a measily 12 knives can put you on the floor stupidly quickly.
From what I've been hearing, Trickster now strongly resembles Old Bubba. Get caught in a dead zone? You die horribly. Get found in a good spot, he can't hardly down you.
That's also arguably not a great spot for him to be... but your comparison is very scuffed.
When I was comparing Old Legion to Trickster I forgot to mention that I was comparing Old Legion to Trickster before the most recent patch. Back then he had 60 knives to down you with and even if he only hits you once in a loop those singular knife hits will eventually add up and down you. I haven't had enough experience with new Trickster but from my few games he still sucks, arguably even more than before imo.

Literally any other killer can down you eventually.
old legion just had no gameplay against him in chases, because when you were afflicted with deep wounds, you would die to moonwalking.
But you're saying tall loops destroys trickster, so that means trickster does have some gameplay against him in chases, unlike old legion.
?
Yeah, every Killer will eventually down you but usually it's because the survivor eventually screws up in the chase. Old Trickster made it so that no matter how good you were at the game even if he only hit's one knife on the survivor within a loop it'll eventually add up and down the survivor. And when I mentioned how Trickster gets destroyed on tall loops I meant to say that because he gets destroyed in big loops that just turns his gameplay into a big RNG fest because if you get something like wreckers yard with mostly small loops you'll destroy the survivors but if you get any coldwind map you'll get looped for a long time, even against survivors who aren't that good at the game.

I wasn't around for Old Legion, but what I've heard is that Legion got a rework because they were incredibly slow to down Survivors but there was very very little that the Survivors could do about it. Is that accurate?
Yup, you hit the nail on the head. You could loop him for a while but no matter what you did he would eventually down you.

Unless you enjoy losing it's impossible to 12 hook with the Twins. They're so fundamentally flawed that it just doesn't work.

This post's title and first sentence seem to contradict each other, do they not?
Not really, what I was trying to say is your allowed to like the map and whatnot, but when you start telling other people that it is a well designed map then your wrong.
